Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 70 mph, the fuel warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle seized. the contact had to go to a fuel station to place fuel in the vehicle in order for it to start. the contact took the vehicle to pennyrile ford (5505 fort campbell blvd, hopkinsville, ky 42240, (270) 886-8131) where it was diagnosed that the purge valve failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 125,000.

Takata recall after i went to a gas station and fill my tank up with gas drive about 2 miles the car start to stall in the middle of the street with me almost cause me to be in and accident luckily i pull to the side to avoid that then the check engine light came on suggesting i check fuel componet and service engine

Vehicle intermittently loses all propulsion, both while in motion or after accelerating from a stop. i've had it happen both during city commutes and during a turn. throughout these episodes, the gear indicator on the dashboard goes from highlighting the current drive ("d") gear, or in some cases the reverse ("r") gear or parking mode ("p"), to nothing at all. when the gas pedal is pushed while this is happening, the engine will rev, but vehicle will not move. user won't even have a chance to pull over since it will stop dead. episodes are usually brief, averaging a couple minutes, however when this does happen it can cause an accident due to a sudden decrease of speed. as for what specific system is at fault, i'm uncertain specifically, though believe either the power train or main computer (esp. dealing with gear shifting) is malfunctioning.

18s32 was performed january 2019 per the recall notice i received. ford dealer in garden city ks said my car was fine and sent me on my way. april 9th, i received a cel for emissions on the purge canister. filled up with fuel, unable to start. was able to finally start vehicle and it died while driving. this is the same symptoms of this recall for the pcv under 18s32. i took back to ford april 11th (same dealer) gave my case number since i called ford prior to ask if this would be covered, they said the dealership would need to look. ford dealer received car 4/15 (since i needed an appointment) said they needed approval from ford and would call me. i called 4/18 to follow up, service manager said they got denied on one and will check with other departments at ford. i received another call same day that they cannot cover it since it was a one time recall for this issue despite no parts being replaced at previous recall. my car, does run, but i am concerned the vacuum issue in this recall will render my car useless if i continue to drive since this is my only car. i need assistance getting the recall done despite being denied.

2012 ford focus stalling and shutting off on highway. engine stalling and shutting off multiple times while driving. check engine indicator on due to recall.

Off and on for the past 2 months go out to start the car put it in reverse attempt to back up and the steering wheel becomes stuck it will not turn at all you have to give it 1 min and then try again and then it resumes normal, last summer was driving down the main highway the right headlight went out the next morning start the car and appears in screen default on the l lighting open the hood to see all electrical wires to the headlights were burnt where the bulb connects to the wire areas had to have all wiring redone and also new complete headlights, also 2 years ago was driving down the highway car stalls out i drift to the edge of the highway attempted several restarts would not restart had it towed and had to replace the fuel pump and relay switch

Ford sent us a safety recall notice 18s32 (nhtsa recall 18v-725). we scheduled an appointment with the dealer, bill talley ford, inc., in richmond, va to do the work as outlined in the recall notice. the dealer refused to do the work opting instead to tell us that "it was not necessary".

Takata recall i'll be driving and my car stalled often and has cut off on two occasion .then my engine light came on.i was driving happen to be at a stop sign and the and cut off and rolled had to restart.when ever i stop the car it take time before it speeds up.

Fuel tank collapse, have been having trouble with car at times not starting and even stop running while driving. ford dealer said the tank has collapsed and needs new fuel tank , fuel pump and valve. dealer charged $119.00 to tell the problem and said it would cost 1,200.00 to repair, so why isn't my car included in the recall? my 19 year old granddaughter, who drives car for school, has been forced to walk or find ride to get to her destination. i hope you can help me, this car problem has been going on about a year and half, monday we finally found out the reason. what can i do to make ford accountable.

Almost killed my self when lurched into intersection because clutch acted up, something it has done since night used. i trusted ford, had no idea of transmission problems. tranny has been done twice at ford, no luck still bad. mad as hell.

There have been several recalls for my car regarding the fuel system and gas tank, my car exhibited all the same symptoms, i took it to a ford dealership that refused to do the work unless i pai'd $2,000 for an expired previous recall for a different issue that was unrelated. they claimed without doing that work if they did this work the car wouldn't work at all. i complained to ford who told me dealerships don't have to honor recalls and to keep trying other dealerships. i asked what to do if none would do the work and they said pay out of pocket. worse yet, the first dealership cleared the recall as not being needed, so now i have a damaged car that i can't get the recall work on that i can't afford to do myself. i'm going to just have to sell the car.

Takata recall. first the headlights stopped working with no way to fix it. they randomly cut off at night while driving. next, the car will shutter and cut off while driving. the car will no longer start. all the incidents were on a highway in valdosta georgia.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would not increase in speed. the contact also heard an abnormal popping noise coming from the fuel tank. the contact also mentioned that the gear shifter was stuck and would not shift into the correct gear. the vehicle was towed to capital ford (3660 s carson st, carson city, nv 89701, (775) 882-5353) where it was diagnosed that the control module needed to be replaced. the dealer also stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the parts were not available. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they were not authorizing any rental vehicles. the failure mileage was 987,038.

I received a recall notice a few months ago and i was told that i would receive another letter in about 3 months once the necessary parts were in stock. i hadn't received the follow up letter so i called my local ford dealer and i was told that the parts were on back order but i could set up an appointment to have my vehicle inspected for corrosion to determine if i even needed the parts. the earliest appointment i could get was may 18th, just for the inspection; not even for the actual repairs. the recall is for the fuel vapor system and there's a warped part that is causing an inaccurate reading on fuel levels which means i have to maintain at least a half tank of gas at all times. my car is now leaking gas and stalling in traffic due to the issue. i live in a city with lots of steep inclines and hills and i have to avoid certain streets because my car has stalled and almost caused accidents. there is only one ford dealer in my area. the only other dealer is about 30-40 minutes away.

As i was driving my car driver side door open the latch does not work anymore and my car stalls i cannot tell how much gas i have because the gauges don't work it puts its doors open i'll be on 75 it just shut off i need to go to red lights is shift so far they go to stop sign i should solve the radio also just goes out and i have so loud starch sound screeching noise very loud and annoying my car also kranks when i want to create battery died quick. *tr

Ford focus 2012 safety recall notice 18s32 / nhtsa recall 18v-735 hello, on october 24, 2018 i was driving my car to work and stopped at a stop sign. my car acted as if it was trying to turn off like a rough idle. when i tried to pull off from the stop sign, my car would move slow. the rpm was rising but barely any movement. after about 30 seconds, my car jerked and started driving normal. a light came on after. when i got off, my car was having difficulty starting. the rough idling started again while i was just sitting in my car. right after that, i took my car to the ford dealership that i got my car from. my car was there for 2 days. so october 28, 2019, i paid 819.64. today december 14, 2018 i received a letter in the mail stating my car has a recall. the recall is for a stuck canister valve within the fuel vapor system. i noticed that i had just repaired my car over a month ago for the canister purge valve. so i when to the ford that i got my car repaired at and showed them the paper that i got in the mail. i advised them that i already paid for the replacement. the service guy told me that they will not be able to reimburse my money because i need an original receipt. i dont understand why if they reprint me my receipt showing me that i paid for the repair. so basically my repair is in the system of ford. and i paid for the repair on october 26, 2018. the recall came about on october 22, 2018. but was not mailed to me until december.

Check engine light illuminated while driving to work. the light was solid not flashing. fuel gauge was at 1/2 tank. its a 50 mile drive to work. fuel gauge indicated 1/4 tank when i arrived at work. on the drive back from work heading straight to the dealer ship, fuel gauge was dropping quickly. stopped to get fuel. filled tank. vehicle would not start. after waiting several minutes between attempted starts, on the fifth attempt it started very roughly. the drive to the dealer ship the car did not run correctly.

My car stalls and shakes badly. when i have to put gas in my car, it takes 10mins for my car to start after words. it can have a full tank or half or under a half tank of gas and it does all this. my car has shut off on me while turning on a road. my car has stalled really badly while stopped at a red light. my car has stalled while trying to take off from a stop sign, red light or any thing that i have to slow down for. my gas needle will be at 3/4 of a tank and it will shoot up pass and over a full tank of gas. i have had to rent multiple cars from my local enterprise to take my daughter and grandma to dr appointments out of my local area. i have had my car towed to a shop cause it shut off and wouldn't start back with 50miles to go till gas was needed. my car has been broke down on the side of the road 2 times due to the gas needle. now i have to drive this car around even longer until they can get the part for my car. which will be 2 weeks from now. and then another 2-3 days for them to do the work.

Ford issued a recall on this vehicle (manufacturer recall #18s32) nhtsa recall # 18v735 on octobe22, 2018. they still have not come up wtih a remedy other than to keep the gas tank at least 1/2 full. this is not acceptable to me.

On your vehicle, the pcm software may not adequately detect a stuck-open canister purge valve (cpv) within the fuel vapor system. if the cpv malfunctions and sticks open, it can lead to excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor system, potentially deforming the plastic fuel tank. this can cause the following symptoms: illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (mil) with certain diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge indication inaccurate distance to empty (dte) engine stall and/or other drivability concerns related to stuck open cpv safety risk this may result in an engine stall while driving without warning or without the ability to restart, and can increase the risk of a crash. unfulfilled promise the manufacturer said the piece would be ready in the first quarter of 2019; however, the recall still says 'no remedy''almost 6 months later.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the part was not available for the repair. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. a dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. the driver was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was pushed into a nearby gas station to be diagnosed. the driver was informed that the fuel gauge was inoperable. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). additionally, on another occasion while moving the vehicle from a parking space, the steering wheel became firm and difficult to maneuver. metro ford chicago located at 6455 s western ave, chicago, il 60636, (888)667-9088 was contacted by phone. the contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall or a warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 62,100.

After multiple issues \recalls with the transmission the car still is not running right. it takes sometime for the vehicle to start and once it does it shudders on acceleration. now i am being told both the fuel pump and the clutch need to be replaced. based on everything i am reading there are quite a few faulty parts in these vehicles that should be recalled.

While sitting still my gas hand went from 1/2 a tank of gas to the full mark. filled it up even though the gas hand was on full mark. it took $20 to fill it up and for it to kick off. then when i started to start my car i hand to turn the key twice to get the motor started and then after i took my hand off the key it kept on cranking as if trying to start although it was already running. i drove it to lexington and could feel it revving the motor up without me doing anything. i turned around and drove back to frankfort and took it to big o's. they put a handheld tester on it and said it was either the oxygen sensor or converter for the engine light that was on. i informed them that i had replaced the o2 sensor just 3 weeks ago. he test drove it and said it revved up on him also which he said something was going wrong in the transmission. when i left from there the lights came on by themselves, the check engine light was on, and the gas hand was still past the full mark. on 9/7/2018 although it said the tank was full my fuel light came on. it also quit on me on 9/7/2018 going down a hill and i had to pull over for a while before it would start back up so i could get home. there was a recall on the tcm valve which has been replaced twice and the clutches in the transmission which has been replaced twice.

Fuel perg valve stuck in closed / open possition. resulting in tank deform and sending unit failer.

I began having problems with this vehicle in 2016 with taking off from a stopped position, accelerating, sputtering and random stalling while driving....without warning. after the car abruptly stalled on a busy highway with me and my son, i took it to the local dealer for testing. however, they were not able to find a problem that would cause the stalling. i continued to drive the vehicle sparingly and cautiously in 2017 around my community, experiencing random issues with dropping dead at a light or stop sign. in may 2018, increasingly more concerned, i took the car to a different dealer, who was unable to find a problem either. a couple of months later, in august 2018, the car abruptly dropped dead again in the middle of an intersection coming even closer to causing an accident. unlike previous instances, the check engine light along with an error message appeared; not allowing the car to startup requiring it to be pushed out of traffic until towed. the problems experienced with this car has put me and my child in many unsafe situations causing tremendous stress and anxiety not knowing when or where the car would abruptly stall again. we've taken it the dealer numerous times for the same problem and was not diagnosed and fixed until the last trip in august 2018. the dealer indicated the fuel tank had collapsed and had to be replaced. my husband spoke to the general manager, ford and many others who refused to acknowledge a wide spread issue with this particular vehicle. after multiple calls and complaints to ford we were left with no choice, but to pay the $1,300 repair cost since we needed the vehicle that sat at the dealer from august 22, 2018 through october 16, 2018. it is very disconcerting to know ford is and was aware of this problem and the safety hazards it caused at the time of our complaint and refused to do the right thing to ensue consumers safety.

Ran out of fuel in this vehicle, once when my daughter was driving on a highway, even though the fuel gauge would say there was between 75-100 miles before empty. the last time this happened the interior of the vehicle had a strong smell of gas. i then proceeded to take it to the dealership and after diagnosis the service manager said some valve remained open causing the gas tank to crack and in turn gas flowed back into the intake manifold. the cost to fix would be approximately $3100. the problem has been a known issue with this vehicle for quite some time, but ford refuses to recall or even pay for the work. i even had an extended warranty and they wouldn't cover it either.

Vehicle would stall out when coming to a stop at red lights, stop signs or hesitate when starting to go. the vehicle would also lose power during normal operation and if it stalled out it would take a few minutes or longer to start, causing traffic issues. fuel gauge would read 3/4 of a tank and be empty. took to dealership several times and had computer reset to fix issue but did not fix it. then another dealership advised they had another focus with the same issue and had to replace fuel tank, purge valve and fuel pump because the fuel tank had collapsed inward. they checked the fuel tank on my focus and it had also collapsed inward. had fuel tank, purge valve and fuel pump replaced and now it runs like it should and gauges work. was advised that this issue causes the vehicle to into limp mode which causes car to stall. this repair cost me $1586.02! this is a very serious issue and a hazard to the occupants. this issue has been going on for about the last 4 years and it took this long to discover what was causing it. i've had the vehicle for 5 years now.

Car was being driven at about 30 mph when it suddenly shut off. car would not restart. fuel gauge indicated 71 miles to empty, 2 days after dealer supposedly recalibrated fuel gauge by reprogramming computer. this has happened several times in the past 3 months. dealer says clutch (in this automatic vehicle) failed "shudder test", and needs $1500 replacement. he says this could explain car shutting off. i cannot risk my pregnant daughter being stranded by this car. very disappointed inford and this dealer.

2012 ford focus, sel. the car would flutter and die out, no power, at the traffic light and or during driving on the road or interstate. after a few minutes i would try to re-start, at times it would re-start after waiting about five minutes or so. took it to the dealer which told me that there was a info out on that and that the ford company will not pay for the repair in the tune of $2200.00 at this time. it seems that there's not enough cars out there with the same problem. to this date i know of 106 vehicles with the problem. it's sad that someone has to die from this problem before something gets done.

The steering wheel locked up and the steering assist came on while i was doing 5 mph . and the fuel tank is being has been deformed because of a vacuum problem with the cap less gas tank. i know that the rest of the 2012 fusion and escape have been recalled, because of the danger of driving down the road and steering will loose controll

Following the illumination of the check engine light the vehicle would exhibit rough idle and stalling. the vehicle has logged approximately 88,000 miles. an ase certified automotive shop has diagnosed the problem with the fuel delivery system which is consistent with a technical bulletin on the issue wherein the fuel system does not properly equalize pressure. this results in a vacuum that starves the engine of fuel and causes the plastic fuel tank to collapse. the vehicle stalls while approaching or stopped at busy intersections. this poses a serious safety hazard. additionally, the stress on the fuel tank may compromise its structural integrity. this safety concern should be the responsibility of ford and a recall should be issued.

The car will cut off once you try to start it up after filling up the gas. it also stalls while you're sitting idle at a light. the gas gauge is also broken. it stays at full and moves around freely.

2012 ford focus sel hatchback started to develop stutter and stall on low load. could be under coasting at 60mph or slowing to stop. the revs drop and engine stalls. while coasting, put the car in n and restarted engine. was ok after that. ck eng light came on. pulled codes, replaced evap purge valve and attempting to replace o2 sensor. unable to remove old one at this point. cleared code. ck eng light came back on but car seems to behave like normal. will have to pull code again. will be extremely unhappy if fuel tank has collapsed. the gauge started reading faulty but based on refuel dates and miles driven the tank seems to take the appropriate amount of fuel. ran out of gas with info center stating 10 miles left. each time the car stalls it has no issue restarting. it only has trouble right after filling up. it cranks for a while. then it turns over and does fine. car would also idle at wrong levels. always used to idle at about 750rpm, which it does again now that evap purge valve has been replaced. before the evap purge valve replacement the car would feel like it's engine braking when coasting instead of just rolling like a normal automatic. the car hasn't been diagnosed by a dealership yet. it's impossible to make an appointment with local dealerships here.

Purge valve-my vehicle was taken into red mccombs ford due to a p0420 code which is a problem with the catalytic converter. before the engine light came on, i had not had any performance issues or noticed any problems while driving or idling on any type of road. the car has 79,479 miles and the converter would be covered under the factory warranty. i was told that the converter went out because the purge valve got stuck open which caused severe damage to the fuel tank and fuel pump and that they would not replace the converter until i paid $1,900 to get the other problems fixed. i did not have the money to get the other problems fixed before the factory warranty expired, therefore i will need to pay an additional $1,700 to have the converter replaced once the warranty expires. i was told that the problems with my car could cause it to lose power and leave me stranded on the road. i am concerned that, other than the engine light turning on because of the converter, i would not have known anything was wrong with the car until it could have died on me in the middle of the freeway. i have had so many problems with this vehicle and by the looks of the complaints on nhtsa, there will be many more serious problems to look forward to. i do not feel safe in this vehicle and ford has done nothing to fix these problems. i am hoping to sell it back to them this weekend. i will never by ford again.

The rpms on my vehicle kept falling and causing my car to stall and even 'die' in traffic. i took it to a mechanic who told me that there was a problem with my evap sensor, fuel pump and gas tank. the sensor and gas pump are malfunctioning and causing the problem and sucking the plastic gas tank up and into the pump causing my car to die while in traffic. i was driving on a major highway doing 65mph the other day and this happened causing extreme anxiety about the possibility of being rear ended by someone not paying attention. i have looked this up and i am not the only focus owner with this problem. this problem has been happening off and on for about a year and is starting to happen morevoften and getting more severe.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. avis ford inc (29200 telegraph rd, southfield, mi 48034, (248) 355-7500) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was notified. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off and lost power on occasion. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was taken to town and country ford (704-557-0596, located at 5401 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28212) where the recall repair was performed. the contact stated that the canister converter was not replaced and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 151,000.

While driving on busy interstate gas gauge indicated sufficient gas, however engine light came on and focus stalled on part of interstate in city with very little shoulder. texas state police had focus towed because of safety hazard. ford dealer advised simply ran out of gas. not true. then intermittent engine light on and hesitation-stalling, but dealer not able to duplicate. then few months later gas gauge acting erratically, engine light on and focus again stalling in traffic numerous times. this time dealer diagnosed as evaporative purge valve failure causing fuel tank to collapse and other damage. cost $2113.42 for all repairs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. when the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the check engine warning indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to hawkeye ford (2027 us-34, red oak, ia 51566) where it was diagnosed with failure codes p144a and p0456. the codes indicated that the evap, purge vent, vent valve, fuel tank, and fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Car stalling while driving. dealership runs codes and determines it's the fuel tank. it will have to be replaced. $2k for parts and labor.

I was driving and the car kept turning of. it happened when i was stopped at a light and multiple times when i was driving. it doesn't shutter and stall, it just shuts off. engine light came on with p1450 and p0456. it is evidently a known issue. there was a recall for 2010-2011 ford fusions for the exact same thing. "some of these vehicles might have a canister purge valve that does not work properly, causing internal pressure changes inside the fuel tank. repeated pressure changes inside the tank could result in a crack on the top of the tank, possibly allowing fuel to leak. a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can lead to a fire." there is no recall for the ford focus models affected, even though it is a known issue and not related to normal wear. it is a manufacturer defect. it was a very scary experience and a very costly one to repair. i am under 60,000 miles. i do not understand why there is a recall on one model, but not the other for the exact same manufacturer issue. the estimated repair cost is $1800 from the ford dealership service department. i was almost hit, because it happened while i was making a turn. it caused me extreme anxiety. this is not the first manufacturer issue i have had with this car. not long after getting it, i had transmission issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 55 mph, a fuel odor entered the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to lance cummingham ford (4101 east clinton highway, knoxville, tn 37912. 866-591-3943) where it was diagnosed that the fuel neck had fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: cas-16784641. the failure mileage was unknown.

Y 2012 ford focus needs a new fuel tank, fuel pump, purge valve and canister per tsb 16-0062. it's because the purge valve was malfunctioning and has collapsed my gas tank (plastic) and i needed to replace the fuel pump, gas tank, fuel tube assembly. all cost $1350.00. many others have this problem but it appears that there is no recall on this. this is something that should be addressed as a recall, not an "eff" you to the customer that has to deal w/ a known issue to ford. when stopped, the vehicle would idle rough. the engine actually died on my daughter who was driving in traffic this past sunday one of the highways in la. the check engine light came on w/ code p1450. then the fuel gauge became highly inaccurate, showing a full tank of fuel when i may be at half or lower. called aaa, my daughter got herself out of the dangerous situation, now my car is being repaired, i have no choice. this is frustrating to see how ford can get away with this issue - one that seems to be quite serious with many other ford focus 2012 owners: https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=ford+focus+issues+wiht+fuel+valve&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8. and here http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/focus/other-fuel-system-pump-problems.php the garage that is doing the repairs in la (la auto center) on washington blvd have explained to me that they have had to do many many such repairs to other ford focus cars - and dealing with the dealerships there - all ignoring or refusing to help its own customers. please help us! i hope this federal agency will help us, unlike what seems to be going on currently politically - protecting major corporations from consumer accountability.

Ford purge valve my 2012 ford focus was incorrectly diagnosed at longmont ford for a p0420 fault code. my complaint was a rough idle at times, vehicle dies at times when coming to a stop. (did not state low power at all times nor any engine heating issues) longmont ford stated a a back-pressure test was performed on the exhaust and the catalytic converter was plugged per dtc p0420. fortunately i did not have the $1700+ dollar repair performed and looked for additional diagnosis. (no specifications given by longmont ford to condemn catalytic converter) additional diagnosis found the evap canister purge valve stuck open - note: found ford has known issues with this valve and at the time of attempting to obtain one for replacement was told they are on national backorder. i believe this known faulty component is a safety issue due to two reasons. 1) can cause vehicle to die in traffic 2) also known to suck the fuel tank closed and damage the fuel pump.
