ACCELERATOR PEDAL 1

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2012 Ford Focus

While driving in stop and go traffic, my cars engine light came on, as i was accelerating to move forward in line a warning stating the transmission is overheating pull over safely for 8 minutes. this is the fourth time something has went wrong with the transmission since buying this car in september of 2012. the first time this happened i was driving on the interstate going 70 miles per hour and i didn't have anytime to pull over safely, i had to coast because my car was running but would not go forward. that happened in december of 2014. then two weeks ago i was again in stop and go traffic and the engine light came on and the car would not move forward, but no warning to pull over safely. i have taken the car to two different ford service centers and though my car has codes stored they state it is how i drive or that an update was needed. when i ask about the car just stopping with the transmission overheating they say it is a safety feature for the transmission. in most circumstances this would be great but when this happens in a situation where the car can't or won't make it to pull over safely then someone is going to be seriously injured. i am very unhappy about the way my car repair has been going especially since i bought this car new and to tell me it is just the way the car runs or it needs an update and that will take care of it is ridiculous. someone is going to get killed driving this vehicle and i pray it is not me. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving at unknown speeds with the cruise control activated, the rpms accelerated. additionally, the clutch was slipping without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (ford of clermont located at 1101 e highway 50 clermont, fl 34711 800-313-9787) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module, electronic control module, and clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer opened case number: cas12559345 and referred the contact to the dealer. the failure mileage was 51,691.

I was driving at a steady speed of 40 mph on a flat road. i was gradually slowing down as i was coming towards an intersection and gradually applying the brake. the car was going at about 10 mph and then i attempted to accelerate as i was about to drive on pass the intersection. however, the car suddenly lost power completely and it could not accelerate at all. i was stuck on the road. i repeatedly pressed on the gas pedal to attempt accelerating a few more times and the car just would not move. each time i press the gas pedal, i heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle but the car didn't move. the engine continued to remain running and both warning indicator and traction light suddenly came on. i had to shut off the engine by turning the key, and attempted to restart the car, both the warning indicator light and the traction light went away and the car seemed to behave like normal as i could move my car again. i then took the car to the ford dealer to investigate the cause, but the technician said that there were error codes within the abs module but they could not explain or figure out why the abs module would suddenly stall the car. all they did was to clear the code in the abs module, but that does not appear to solve the underlying problem. plus, there was no assurance that this problem would not happen again. sudden lost of power can lead to extremely dangerous situation and i earnestly nhtsa could take action to this investigation to improve safety for me and for others driving the same car model. *tr

Purchased 2012 ford focus used, 04-14-15. i test drove the car it jerked a little. the rep stated it was normal. the next 4 months it continued to jerk, skip, hesitate and just not move when you accelerated. in 08-2015 i rec'd a letter from ford, my car needed a tcm-software update. 09-09-15 i took the vehicle back to the dealership it took an hour to re-program the tcm. the dealership handed a printed copy of the tcm characteristics. i continued to drive the car with the same issues hoping it would go away. 10-19-15 went back to the dealer to have the tcm re-programmed again. i called ford to complain 10-19-15 and a case file was issued #[xxx]. i did not want to go back to the same dealership. 10-23-15 the car went to the 2nd dealership. discovered the tcm had failed and had to be replaced., explaining to drive the car for a number of miles to correct itself. the drive had improved, but then started failing again. 03-16-16 i went back to the 2nd dealership, the tcm was replaced. again the drive had slightly improved and had again failed. this time when the tcm failed, while driving on the highway the wipers came on without turning them on,even when the car was off. the next day the car wouldn't come on so i replaced the battery. drove the car about 300 miles made a stop and it would not come back on. the car had to be towed and the local mechanic was able to get the car started again. driving back home about 150 miles on highway all lights came on the dash, battery, fuel, trans, etc.. wipers came on, power steering was lost and engine shut off. rolled to side of road. sat 5 min, then started as if nothing happened!? we made it home. car not starting. 12-06-16 towed to ford. tcm module crashed the computer operating system, replaced tcm and re-programmed system. 01-10-17 wipers still come on with engine off. w/return to ford 01-17-17. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I was driving the vehicle down the highway and it all of a sudden lost power and would not shift and slowed down to around 40mph automatically and almost caused me to be hit from the vehicle behind me and had to immediately pull of to the shoulder. a message came up on the hud/display and said transmission malfunction service now!. i then shut the car off at a parking lot and let the car sit for over an hour and made phone calls to the dealer. this has also has happened when going to step on gas to yield at an intersection and the motor just went up in rpm but did not move or go into gear while in drive. this is vehicle is dangerous while driving due to these issues and the dealer acts like it is not. *tr

My granddaughter and i were returning home from out of town where we had been on tollways throughout the day. fortunately, we were only a mile from home and out of the big city and off the tollways, when the car began to shudder and shake and completely stalled in the roadway as i was slowing to approach an intersection. it just seemed to lock up and shook violently and lights flashed and i immediately looked at the dash and it read service immediately. i looked in my rear view mirror and fortunately no one was behind me. i tried to accelerate to get to the side of the road and it jerked and slowly began to accelerate and slowly reach home. at home i put it in park and after that was unable to move it forward or backward. i had to have it towed to the dealership. had this happened on the tollway i am certain we would have been hit from behind. i have no doubt. we have been dealing with this since shortly after we purchased the car in 2012. it has been in the shop at least four times for similar issues but never this serious. each time gets worse. i am afraid of the car now and it has been in the shop now a month and is being taken to another shop out of town because the local dealership doesn't have anyone capable to fix it as per their service department. most of all this was a dangerous event that needs to be taken seriously. *tr

I am filing a complaint against a 2012 ford focus se. the car has been making transmission noises that cannot be resolved for quite some time now and while driving on the 101 freeway, all of the instrument panel lights came on and the entire car completely shut off and no controls were working at all almost causing an intense pile up that could have killed my mother and i instantly. we were left in the middle of the freeway with not power of any use of controls until chp officers were finally blocking traffic from hitting us. this is the worst vehicle we have ever owned and ford should be ashamed for being negligent. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while attempting to merge lanes with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle suddenly accelerated independently. the contact mentioned that due to the failure, there was almost a crash involved. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

At first i reported issues with dealership regarding car moving backwards at time when i release brakes to go forward and my car is automatic. also informed them after a red light i press the gas but car would not move immediately they said it was normal due to dual transmission. car was not put in service. i had same incident and a month later i received an alert regarding a clutch recall and took it in for service today and explained to them i had same issue. car was not put in service and they said it was normal cause car is automatic with a manual transmission and they stated to only bring it in if i hear metal grinding. *js

I was driving on a very busy expressway and my car lost the ability to accelerate. i was almost hit from behind. the car now has no power. it will not accelerate the way it is supposed to. i received a "courtesy fix" notice from ford for the transmission problems that have been reported. the problem that i had is directly related to the faulty transmission in these cars. i was told by the dealership that my car could not be repaired for at least 3 weeks as the parts are on back order. i commute 90+ miles per day and i cannot drive my car and feel safe. this is a huge safety issue. *tr

I have a 2012 ford focus. only a year after buying this car i began to notice issues with shifting while driving and even complained about transmission issues to my dealer. i was told this was "normal operating condition". before the implementation of the fors customer service program happened, there was a minor recall to reduce instances of rolling back on hills. i took my car in to have that fixed only to have more intense issues surface later. my car has been in the shop for diagnostics more times than i can count with no real results on the transmission. in october of 2014 -2.5 years after purchasing a brand new car. my transmission officially failed as i tried to merge onto the highway. ford issued a not-quite-recall announcement, and i took my ford in to get the repair service done with 51,095 miles on the vehicle. i had transmission components (seals and clutch) replaced exactly as was instructed by ford motor company. 10,000 miles later, in april 2015, i began experiencing the beginnings of the same issue again. it would seem that whatever ford corporate claims is the issue is not the case or that the fix ford corporate isn't an actual fix. more than this, i've been instructed to do the same replacement process when ford confirmed that the same issue was happening and the same outcomes were imminent. i ordered the parts on 4/16 because they were on back order and not available. 2 months later, the parts needed to do this are still not available. i'm lucky that my highway merge stall-out didn't end poorly the last time but not knowing whether accelerating is possible or when your transmission will fail is scary. the fact that this is happening at 60,000 miles is inexcusable and unsafe. this "program" allows ford to avoid fixing the issue and leaves consumers in an unsafe, unreliable and financially draining situation.

Was parking car when suddenly it lunged forward at a fast speed, i lost control and hit car in front of me plus 3 other cars then crashed into cement wall. i hit my head and left side of body on the door, i bruised my rib cage front & back plus my left leg very bruised. i was very lucky i didn't get killed. *tr

The car was driving fine and all of a sudden the power train quit working despite the fact that the engine was operating correctly. because of the loss of power, i was endanger of getting hit by other cars. the sudden loss of power is a hazard. the manufacturer said the resulting loss of power train was due to a transmission control module. this particular model has been plagued by transmission problems throughout its life. mine began while it was still under warranty and continues today. i am going to abandon the car because i feel it is unsafe at this point for me or anyone else. *tr

The engine light came on while driving, saying check transmission. the transmission is not shifting the car shakes or vibrate when the peed change. *tr

When you take off the vehicle shudders during acceleration. we have taken the car into plano five star ford twice now and they still say they cannot get it to act up. my husband drives 150 miles a day in this car and on september 26th we did not think we would make it home in it. he took in to plano five star ford on monday the 29th and they said they have driven it 90 miles this week and cannot get it to act up and told us to come and get the car. we received a letter dated august 2014 from ford stating this is a problem and they have extended the warranty to 100,000 miles. we already have 86,000 plus miles on the car and the transmission will not last much longer. please help us... Driving on freeway, friday light traffic. accelerating and cannot go past 1000rpm. check engine light came on. could not go any faster. lucky no one rear-ended me on the fwy. (previous to this incident, car routinely (many times a day) shudders upon acceleration (car shakes) and seems to have trouble shifting gears). took to dealer who said they had to reset the computer, kept car over labor day weekend and supposedly all fixed. picked car up 9/3/14 and same thing happened while stopped at a red light at night on way home from work. could not accelerate past 1000rpm. pulled over, called aaa and towed to dealer. after 2 days, dealer said the modular/component in the transmission needed to be replaced. dealer kept car for another 5 days to drive around and see if this resolved the problem. i picked up the car 9/11/14. car still has trouble 'shifting' from 1000 to 2000 rpm and still shudders but has not totally stopped accelerating, i am in fear everyday since i drive over 100 miles per day to/from work in heavy traffic. *tr

The car stopped accelerating while i was driving on 1-95 in new jersey at rush hour . i was able to pull over safely, resumed driving and the car repeated this over the next day. after a service by a ford dealer, the car ran smoothly for 10 miles then the problem re occurred and engine light went back on. would not accelerate in reverse or drive. definitely was not fixed. this is in addition to the constant sputtering and chugging when i accelerate. but coming to a dead stop on i95 in new jersey traffic was terrifying. *tr

I was traveling from the route 128 highway exit ramp onto the interstate 95 going approximately 50-55 mph, as i rounded the top of the ramp i went to accelerate onto i-95 when i found i was slowing in speed/decelerating and found that i had no pick up with the vehicle. i was actually coasting ,the engine appeared to be on but i was unable to accelerate. as i coasted to the break down lane the check engine light flashed on. i sat at the side of the road for approximately 5-7 minutes, the car did re-start. due to what appeared to be a dangerous spot on the highway i attempted to continue driving towards an exit. approximately 4 miles down the highway ( i traveled at 50 mph in the far right lane) the car again, stopped accelerating was decelerating, i was pumping the gas petal without success and i coasted to the side of the road. i had the car towed to rodman ford in foxboro ma. the service advisor is telling me the diagnostic shows nothing is wrong with the car. he also reports even though the check engine light flashed on twice their is no indication of the computer registering any type of failure. *tr

The car goes into neautral with no warning loose all power and three months later it does not go into reverse and lost gears we had to pay out of pocket someone going to get hurt this car needs a recall on transmission before someone gets hurt bad there is so many complaints on transmission. *tr

I was leaving from the bp gas station from wayne sullivan dr in paducah, ky i had drove from ledbetter which is 10 mins outside of paducah and when i started my car to leave gas station pulling out into busy intersection i went to accelerate and my car would not go any faster than 10mph with oncoming traffic behind me and my 5 year old child in the car with me. i had reported transmission problems before they put computer to adjust it but told me slippage and jerking would be normal due to the type of transmission. my car has always rolled back on steep hills also. *tr

Without warning, (no lights on dash-board - no unusual noises - no problems starting etc), there were no gears and i was left in neutral. it required coming to a stop, putting it into park and starting again to limp along to get to a safe point to park the car and call for help. luckily i was not yet onto the freeway! the ford dealership mechanic was able to replicate these circumstances and he too found himself without gears; he was on the freeway on-ramp and was lucky to not be hit. i can only imagine how dangerous this is if you are in 4 lanes of traffic going 60 mph!!! notwithstanding the severity of this "module" defect, the problem according to ford does not come under the 'transmission recall' and my car is 3,500 miles over the magical 60,000 power-train recall. i am stuck with a $1,500 bill and the fear that it might happen again; if not to me, someone else with this model/year focus. *tr

Car stutters and does not shift. severe shaking and loss of cruise speed is effected. the car does not accelerate properly and seems to lose speed while driving. i am scared to let my daughter drive this car and only have owning it for several months it has been in the shop once and going back again. there is no apparent fix for this problem and they will not do anything about it. the clutch was replaced and reprogrammed and this did nothing to fix the issue. *tr

I was driving down a road and all of a sudden my car wouldn't go i kept stepping on the gas and there was no throttle power. i turned of the main street and let the car glide to a complete stop. praying that the garbage truck would stop cause my car was barely moving. i turned it off and then it made a weird noise.... i tried turning it on but it didn't so i called roadside assistance but while i was talking to them the car cranked up again. i drove it to the nearest dealer the told me i needed a new battery but i took my battery out h as d it checked and it's still good . today my car did the same thing and now it's in the driveway it doesn't have throttle power the rpm's are not working not even when it's in park. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stuttered and rolled backwards, the steering wheel shook and failed to turn, and the accelerator pedal failed to respond and traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. in addition, the "transmission ready" indicator illuminated. after the vehicle was restarted, it operated normally. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (camelback ford, 1330 e camelback rd, phoenix, az 85014, (602) 635-7551) where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failures recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 77,000. the vin was not available.

While driving (at multiple speeds, on multiple occasions), transmission disengages for absolutely no reason and car must be parked and restarted to move again. the engine does not stall, and you can rev the engine, but transmission will not engage (like being in neutral) to move vehicle. took ford dealership multiple times to fix the issue because they needed an error code to work from, even though anecdotal evidence suggests that this is a well know defect of the transmission control module (i.e. computer chip that regulates the transmission), in this vehicle, which was eventually replaced (and now the car runs fine). submitting this complaint because it caused multiple dangerous road situations where i could not power the vehicle on a freeway with traffic at high speeds. this could cause injury or death that is completely avoidable by the replacement of one computer chip, and ford is most likely aware of it....updated 07/30/15 *bf

At random times the car will just shut off leaving a coasting vehicle down the highway, or leave you stalled out in the middle of an intersection. if you leave it sit for 30min-1hour it may restart. if you press the accelerator it was not respond. after a couple minutes the vehicle will recover from a rough idle and try to lunge forward even when vehicle is in park. problem: transmission control module. *tr

Driving on the highway when car did not want to accelerate and suddenly accelerated. motor light turned on. when taken to get checked, motor light was off and. was told others have been experiencing the same. this is the second time it happens. *tr

My car was in the shop about 4x's in 1 month. issue began driving about 45 mph. went to accelerate felt a sudden jerk & nothing. look down to see my drive light flashing & am steadily decreasing in speed with no way to accelerate, like in neutral. i luckily was able to get out of oncoming traffic, put the car in park which began to flash. accelerated a couple times to be sure it responded before driving but the service engine light was on. driving again, about to make a left turn, not a mile down the road, same thing happened. this time put it in park, accelerated & nothing. shut off my car to reset it & my car would not turn on. after waiting for the tow truck, the car would just not turn on, everything related to the battery would turn on but the car didn't. in the shop this 1st time a total of 3 days, still unsure about it being fixed (because they just fixed the "electrical" part, not the issue) lo & behold when i turned into my neighborhood same thing happened (drive light flashed & accelerator didn't respond). i get home to park & turn on my car, after attempting to turn it back on, nothing. another tow truck came the next morning to get it, this time my car was there 7 days. after 2 days of driving the same thing happened i was on a hill almost began rolling backwards into another car until i put it into p & pulled the e break. car went in they stated that they figured it out & i hoped 3rd x's the charm. nope, i was on a highway had to pull over away from oncoming traffic decrease the risk of me being hit. 9 days in the shop after ordering a transmission control module for my car & replacing it, it works. although i was just informed that the same thing is now happening to a friend with a 2013 ford focus. it's something that needs to be looked into because loosing the ability to accelerate in the middle of traffic is very dangerous life threatening & scary. *tr

While driving on the road, going about 40-50 mph on a sunny, hot day in july, the traction control suddenly turned on and the car started to decelerate. i found it odd as the weather was not inclement and i had not hit a pothole so i pulled over since the car was automatically slowing down. i was lucky not to have been in an accident as there were plenty of cars around and this was less than half a mile from the highway that i was about to travel. after pulling over, i turned the car off to try to clear the traction control as it seemed to be stuck on. the car would not turn back on (the engine was not turning on though the battery was fine). after calling the ford auto club and having help come out, the car got towed to the dealership. the issue turned out to be with the transmission control module that was covered under the original power train warranty. *tr

While i am driving (this has occurred three times) the check engine light comes on and the gears keep slipping. i take it in and they reset the computer or whatever they do and it works fine right after but continues to drive like the gears are slipping. *tr

I have had the worst problems with this car. i have had it in the ford dealer ship 5 times since jan. 2012. they keep saying nothing is wrong. it rolls worse then a 5 speed. it tries to stall out on me taking off., acts like it is going to die going up a hill. i have to push gas pedal down all the way to get up a hill. it happens most the time but not always. it is to the point i am about to never own a ford again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle lost power. the contact mentioned that the check engine and the gear switch warning lights illuminated. the door chime sounded and the vehicle was able to restart approximately 15 minutes later. the failure recurred on two other occasions. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the computer failed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 53,000.

I have a ford focus 2012 se with winter and comfort packages. my vehicle suddenly swapped up from 79 mph to 81 mph when i pressed the down button to slow the car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. when the accelerator pedal was engaged at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle failed to respond without warning intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the the dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was operating as designed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 52,000. the vin was not available.

Since purchasing my focus in november of 2013, i have had several issues with what appears to be the transmission that have caused me to fear for my safety as they have resulted in multiple near-accidents. i had the car looked at within the first several months of ownership and nothing was found, i then took the car back in when symptoms persisted and got the clutch replaced within roughly a year of buying. the symptoms subsided for a while, but have returned and are still an issue to date. issues are detailed below: the car often chugs when in motion, especially during acceleration from a stopped position. there have been numerous occasions where the vehicle will intermittently and unpredictably refuse to accelerate in a normal fashion. this happens both while moving around 20-40mph and also when coming from a stopped position - say waiting at a red light or when waiting to turn left at a busy city intersection. this is terrifying as i never know when the car will accelerate normally and when it will not - at least twice in recent history i have attempted to make a left turn from a stopped position, had plenty of time to get through the intersection, but the car struggled and finally made it through too close for comfort. other times, the rpms seem to rev up for no reason, and the car accelerates very quickly though the pressure on the pedal has not changed. though the has happened with less frequency, it is almost more frightening as i feel like i am not in control of the vehicles speed while in traffic. typically this happens when coming from a stopped position as well. additional issues i've had include it rolling backward on small inclines - sometimes when brake pedal is sufficiently depressed and even momentarily when in drive and gas pedal depressed. *tr

Accelerating from stop, engine hesitates, causing turns and acceleration onto streets to take longer than expected. *tr

I have a problem with my ford focus 2012 se which is best described as gas pedal or throttle delay in my opinion. i was making a right hand turn into traffic and when i pushed down on the gas pedal. it was a second later i realize i needed to push down harder on the gas petal as the car wasn't moving fast enough. i got it moving, but i would have preferred it didn't happen again. no accident occurred, but i'm wondering if this problem could be averted by a slight correction of whatever needs adjusting. where would i go to fix this if i can? *tr

On march 13th, i was driving at approximately 55 miles per hour. all of the sudden i lost complete power in my car. the rpms revved up extremely high and i gained no power when pushing on the accelerator. i lost all speed in a matter of seconds and was forced to pull over. i was almost hit by another car as i was attempting to get out of the way. steering became hard and it took more effort to break and slow the car. i turned the car off as soon as i came to rest. i attempted to restart the car and the car would not even turn over. i called a tow truck and had my car towed to ford. they had the car for 4 days and replaced the transmission control module (tcm). the part was covered under the emissions warranty according to ford. i was told the car was fixed and sent on my way. on march 24th the car broke down again. the car did the same thing as the first time and again almost caused a car accident in which serious injury could have resulted. i sat with the car turned off for approximately 5 minutes and then tried to restart the car. the car restarted on the 4th time. i called my local ford and asked if it was safe to attempt to drive over, they said it was. they have now had the car for one week and are unable to locate an issue. i was given a loaner vehicle which they have now demanded they get back. i been told the process of ford deciding what to do can take up to 2 months. i am no left with no car and ford is claiming no responsibility and providing no customer service. ford needs to fix this issue and refund those affected. *tr

The engine seems to race at times and while the rpm are rising to car does not accelerate. also when i am at a red light it will either shutter or lurch forward occasional. when i took it for service they told me this was a normal function of the dual core transmission. however it seems to me that if this were true the frequency would not be increasing and i would not notice it when i m driving. thank you i hope you can do something to help. *tr

When pulling of from a stop position sounds like a rattling or something making a cranking noise. also car stalls at times. taking off from stop sign car stalls when gas is pressed, this is an ongoing problem. *tr

Pulling on to a main street in the rain, when i tried to accelerate move along with the speed of traffic the wheels started spinning and the car started a loud banging noise and lurching. i was having difficulty controlling the vehicle and had to release the accelerator quickly to avoid losing control. traffic had to swerve around me to avoid a collision. the malfunction of the traction/stability control made more difficult to control the car. *tr

Shutters/ grinding noise/ tugs and jolts at low speeds and up hills. when in bumper to bumper traffic message on dash, overheating transmission pull over wait 8 minutes. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while coasting downhill at 20 mph, the vehicle down shifted and was close to stalling. the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to prevent the stalling but the vehicle then accelerated independently and crashed into another vehicle. a police report was filed however, there were no injuries. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 35,000. *updated 09-18-13 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was declared totaled.

I own a 2012 ford focus sel that has had multiple transmission issues along with an electrical problem relating to the steering wheel and a battery failure. the vehicle has had issues accelerating through 1st gear which was evident by extreme shuddering and shaking of the vehicle. this had put me into dangerous situations numerous times when trying to merge onto freeways as the vehicle hesitated to get up to speed in time. my transmission was replaced at 9,562 miles in sept. 2013. the shuttering and acceleration problems recurred at 21,904 miles in sept. 2014 and ford ran a system update to 'fix' the problem. they also replaced the steering wheel for electrical problems at this time. the acceleration issues continued for the next month and the clutch was finally replaced in oct. 2014. a couple weeks later the battery was dead 3 sundays in a row and was also replaced. ford has not been able to reassure me that these transmission issues will not be on-going. i continuously read others accounts online stating they are having the same issues i am having, and in many cases their dealerships are ignoring the issues and making excuses. please look into this matter. *tr

I was driving down a 35 mph road, trying to push the gas to get to 35 mph, but it failed and revved the engine and rpm without increasing my speed. i was going 20 mph and worried that my speed would affect other cars behind me to possibly hit me. there is some noise coming from the engine. it happened three times within less than a mile so i pulled over off the road to check and still unsure. the car is still brand new and only at almost 16,000 miles. *tr

Since we purchased the vehicle, it seemed to stutter when trying to go from a stop. i was told that this is normal for this transmission. but on august 24th, the transmission started to have even more problems. first the vehicle was having a hard time accelerating past 20 mph. then it started jerking back and forth, lunging to and fro. it was not shifting gears like it should have, and it felt like it was going to stall, so complainant had to pull over to avoid an accident and allow fast moving traffic to pass. after traffic had passed, complainant turned around to go back home, jerking and lunging the whole time going less than 20 mph. after leaving the car sit for several hours, the vehicle started up again, and seemed to be operating normally. however now the vehicle is having a harder time going up hills, and has trouble coasting. feels like something is dragging it down. this could be very unsafe, as the problem is not predictable, and could potentially cause an accident. a 2012 vehicle with 39000 miles should not be having transmission problems already.

I have only owned this 2012 ford focus for approx. 6 weeks. it has been hesitating, sputtering, and jerking upon acceleration and when driving at low speeds since the first day i owned it. at first it was intermittent but now it happens most all the time. when i stop and take off it feels like it is going to stall out. when on an interstate ramp i feel i cannot get up to a higher speed fast enough. i took it to the dealer for service. the dealer said that they would need to drop the engine, replace the seals (there is leaking around the seals) and replace the clutch. and, the seals are on back-order for 2 to 3 weeks! they say it is safe to drive and to let them know if it worsens (how can it get worse). they may say it is safe, but i sure do not feel safe or comfortable driving this car. i have read hundreds of complaints from other focus owners on this same issue. ford needs to recall these cars and listen to consumers. this is a defect that needs ford's ownership. i have been in contact with ford and have a case number. thank you. *tr

Was sitting at a stop light after leaving work and the "stop safely now" message appeared. car would not move. after several cycles of turning the car on and off, opening and closing the driver door, locking and unlocking the car, it managed to reset itself and work again, only to have the problem recur about 5 minutes later, requiring the same steps to resolve the issue. the car worked normally the rest of the day after i arrived at my destination. *tr

2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. *smd the consumer stated it felt as though the vehicle was loosing power and trying to stall out. she would try to accelerate and the vehicle would rev, but would not go, and when it finally did go, it was very jumpy and slow. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer five times for the same issue. the dealer stated the vehicle needed a computer upgrade. the dealer stated it would take a while for the upgrade to work, but it never did, and the problem worsened. the next time, the dealer stated the tcm needed to be replaced. the replacement of the tcm, made the problem even worse. the vehicle began jerking upon acceleration and it felt as though the transmission was slipping. *jb
