We have classified the 3 complaints from 2011 Ford Fiesta about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Passenger side back door latch wont close. door will not close. latch won't engage. *tr
Door latch not working properly. 1. parked the car and rear passenger opened the rear passenger side door 2. closed the door but it didn't latch 3. repeatedly attempted to close the door but it wouldn't latch 4. put the key tip in the central locking/unlocking and twisted/jiggled it (central locking/unlocking is located on the door just above the latch) 5. closed the door and it latched. 6. this issue happens each time you open the door from the inside (passenger exiting the car). you can open the door from the outside and the door works correctly. 7. looked on the nhtsa website to see if the problem has been reported and i see many issues with ford fiesta door latches, so added my report. *tr
Went to my car , put a bag in the back floor , shut the back door , the door bounced back and hit me, the latch would not catch. *tr
I was driving with children in back seat of vehicle and both rear doors flew open while driving. upon pulling over to secure rear doors, i observed that the right rear door latch is locked and will not close and the left rear door latch is open and will not secure upon closing. *tr
I tried to close the rear passenger door, but the door would not latch. i could not see a problem and tried to close the door several more times unsuccessfully. i had to use the seat belt to tie the door closed so that i could drive home. unfortunately, that was 215 miles away. the door ajar light stayed on and the rear seat dome light stayed on the entire trip. once home, i had to disconnect the battery to prevent it from being drained. i will be calling my local ford dealer from which i bought the car 4 years ago tomorrow morning. *tr
My passenger side rear door was opened when getting into the car and was then closed but it did not latch. the door ajar light continues to stay on. two weeks later the same thing happened with the driver side rear passenger door. this has cause my battery to go bad and had to be replaced, i called my ford dealership zeck ford in leavenworth kansas and they told me i would have to pay for the repair and if it is recalled then i would be issued a refund or i could just wait it out and see if there is a recall issued. for the mean time, i have my rear doors secured with a ratchet strap inbetween the handles due to the huge cost of repairing the door latches, my door ajar light continues to stay on and my car battery is being drained down everynight putting extra wear on a brand new battery. if i let it sit for more than one night then it has to be jump started. i am not very happy with ford motor company for not addressing this asap. i believe this is a huge safety problem and i am unable to have any passengers in the rear seats and i fear that one or both of the front doors could fail with the same problem causing injury to myself, or my passenger or causing my vehicle to be un drivable if one of the front doors fails. *tr
Rear passenger door latch broken, door will not stay closed. *tr
No issues with door upon first entering passenger side. got out of vehicle and proceeded to close the door but door wouldn't latch shut. door bounced back and i thought something was preventing the door from fully closing but nothing was obstructing the door. had to physically hold the door closed while we drove to the dealership. service department did not have the part available and told us it would be approximately 2 weeks to get it in with a charge of over $300. vehicle is no longer under warranty. no previous accidents. drove the car home with my daughter holding the door shut. luckily the car door didn't srping open while we were driving. door malfunctioned less than 10 minutes after we left the house. *tr
While out shopping on the night of oct. 8, 2014 with my pregnant step daughter we returned to the vehicle to find that the passenger rear door failed to latch. i was unable to get it to latch properly. i was able to hold the door mostly closed with the seat belt, but every time i made a left turn the interior light would come on and door ajar warning message would come on and stay on. i am only able to use the car with the rear doors strapped to each other. *tr
My husband went to place my son's toddler seat in the back seat when he did he later tried to close the door and the door would not latch. we tried closing it several times and not successful. this happened to the right rear door. my husband then took the car to a ford dealership and said that it would cost roughly $500 to diagnose and fix the problem. we didn't leave it because this should be something that ford should take care of since to me it seems to be a car defect and not anything we did to it. so we saw that we are not the only ones with this problem and want to unite with other owners to get this resolved with a recall. *tr
Woke up one morning, went to go put some stuff in back seat of my car. shut the door and noticed it popped right back. tried again and kept popping back. has not closed since. took to ford and said my latch broke and that it would be almost $500 in service and parts. *tr
The rear left passenger door won't latch. door flies open. *tr
Rear passenger door latch will not hold door shut. the door failed to latch when a passenger used the door for normal entry and tried to close it. no initiating event or damage preceded this failure. *tr
Driving at about 20 mph in a parking lot all of a sudden the left rear door opened and could not be shut again due to a malfunctioning of the locking system. ( door latch). *tr
Latch on back door of driver's side unlocked while vehicle was in motion. stopped vehicle and door would not stay closed. tied broken door across to door at back of passenger's side. started vehicle. latch on back door of passenger's side unlocked while in motion. second door would not stay closed. brought car to ford dealership. dealer reported that door parts were "defective" and would not be covered under warranty. had to purchase new door latches and get them installed for $1,000. major safety issue. i was lucky i had no passengers!!!!! doors unlatched while in motion! *tr
We have recently encountered driver-side open door alarm that doesn't go away. the door doesn't latch all the time either. *tr
I was driving my 2011 ford fiesta going about 45 miles an hour and the right rear door swung open when i hit a curve in the road. i pulled over to see what happened and realized that the door would not close (latch). my son was with me in the front seat and he had to sit in the back and hold the door until we could drive home about 2 miles away. thank god this did not happen with my young daughter in the back seat going down the freeway. i took the car to the dealer the next day and luckily i had bought the extended warranty on the car. how is this not a recall issue? looks like this is happening around the country with this car. this is a major safety issue. *tr
I was parked that day and sat my daughter in the back seat but as i closed the passenger door, it did not latch so i was forced to tie the seatbelt to the door to avoid accidentally opening while driving on the freeway. also, when parked at home, i am forced to unplug the battery or it will discharge. *tr
The rear passenger-side door will not latch. fortunately, i noticed it before i pulled away. *tr
On separate occasions both rear door latches failed to engage. this occurred after opening the rear door and then attempting to close the door. on both occasions the doors failed to latch. the doors are currently held shut with cargo straps as i have not been able to get the doors to latch. on both occasions the car was in park. at this time i am unable to use the rear passenger compartment. *tr
Rear passenger door will not latch. it has been working just fine for 2 years. then tonight leaving school to go home for work in the morning. the door was discovered to be open, and apparently will not latch. i will have to wait till morning time, tie the door short with ropes and limp home with it. *tr
As i started to drive away my passenger door came open on a left hand curve, i immediately got out to see what the problem one as maybe the seatbelt was preventing closure. however, upon observation of the passenger door, i noticed the latching mechanism that is supposed to attach the door to the body, was no longer functional, it had lost all tension and was loose inside the door. i very rarely have passengers in this car, so frequent use could not be an excuse for this malfunction. *tr
I got in my car, shut the door and did my normal start up routine. i was following my wife home and shortly after starting to drive i leaned over to the left like i always do to put my elbow on the window sill when the door came open. i lost balance to the left and slightly swerved and hit the brakes to stop. the door flung open from momentum and bounced back at me when the car stopped. it hit my left side but no major damage. my wife stopped up ahead and came back and we were unable to figure out why the door popped open and could not get it to latch. i took my car to the dealership on monday and they told me that this was a known problem. the first service adviser, not my regular service adviser, told me to keep my receipt and when the recall was issued they would reimburse me and that it should only be a few weeks. as i was leaving my regular service adviser saw me and asked what was going on. i told her the situation and she said that they should not have even charged it as they had already been dealing with the issue for other customers. she tried to stop the billing from going through but they had already processed it. she said not to worry and it would only be a few weeks at max... this was over six weeks ago. this issue may be under reported because of this. *tr
While driving on the freeway at about 55 to 60 mph the back passenger door on the drivers side opened for no reason. it would not shut and had to pull to the side of the road in heavy traffic because the door would not latch. upon inspection it appears the door latch broke while the door was shut and the car was in motion. this created a very dangerous situation with a car door opening on its own, especially in that kind of traffic. ford does not seem to care too much about this problem and will fix the vehicle for charge. hopefully something will be done before this problem causes injury or death. *tr
Opened back passenger door to place groceries and door latch will not stay closed. had to drive home with passenger holding door closed. took the car to ford dealership and they said they are unable to fix it. *tr
Door lock assembly safety issue, door latch fails and door stays open: i went to close right rear door of fiesta. no problem warning until that moment. it would not stay shut. door lock assembly went bad. took to visalia ford in visalia, ca, appointment that afternoon. service writers said that was the 4-5th fiesta/ focus with this problem lately and that they were waiting 2-3 weeks on back order for the same parts for the previously known vehicles.this small town dealer was waiting 2-3 weeks on back order to fix this in 4-5 other fiesta/focus. i had to order and pay for parts so they would be ordered. upon my going home, after cinching up the door again, i called the number for ford west representative. i had "direct #" ([xxx]) from previous incident not related to this door. the phone was answered by a different person, who said she was in that position now and that i was in error calling her instead of ford customer service. her info: "[xxx] (866) 631-3788 [xxx]. i then tried to explain the situation about the 4-5 fiesta/focus waiting at this small dealership and this could not be happening just in visalia, ca. i asked about safety recalls by ford; she blew me off saying i was wrong. i told her to call visalia ford i gave her their #. her concession was that she would try to expedite the parts to visalia ford, and call me a week later, on the next tuesday (9/30/14), to check on progress. she never called again. i received call that parts were in on 9/26/14, had the repair done on 9/29/14, which was the next day service department was open. the concern i have on this problem is that some child or other back seat rider who is not belted in is going to have the door open and fall out, i would guess this will happen to any of the doors. if i was driving and a door suddenly opened for no reason due to the latch failure, i may freak or swerve or worse. thanx information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My back passenger door latch does not work at all. if the door is not constrained the door will open at any speed...unsafe and unfit for any back seat passengers. *tr
While leaving a parking lot after loading camera equipment and groceries into the rear backseat from the rear passenger side door i pulled out onto the main road and as i turned left into the u-turn, my rear passenger door swung open releasing my equipment and some of the groceries out into the road. thankfully no one was following close and i was able to pull aside and pick up my belongings. thinking i had not shut the door all the way i shut the door to only hear an empty "thunk" and the door bounced back. i attempted to resolve the issue in a variety of ways to no success and my final solution was to use a ratchet strap to secure the door shut. it was only upon researching how to fix this that i realized i could post here. thankfully my equipment and groceries were relatively undamaged given the lower speed of the incident but if anyone had been in the backseat this could have been extremely dangerous. the oddest part of this is that i utilize this car mostly solo so if i ever do access the backseat its typically from the driver side rear door which i have had no issue with. *tr
I got into my car this morning, and my dash illuminated that a door was open. the led display stated that my rear passenger door was ajar. i got out of the car and sure enough, my back passenger door was opened. i tried to close it, but the door would simply bounce off the metal frame, never closing. i seat belted the door closed and carefully, and slowly drove to the dealership. i had not opened the back passenger door the previous day. the door would drift open while driving, so i had to keep a firm hold on the seatbelt to keep it from flying open. it was a terrifying experience. i was told by the dealer that the part would not be available for several days. i had to miss work today as my car has been in the dealership all day. i work an hour away and have to travel via highway. i am worried about my safety as well as the safety of drivers around me. *tr
Passenger rear door will not latch. door just bounces back when slammed shut. the latch mechanism has failed in the open position. the door will not shut and is currently tied back from the inside. please go to this website for an excellent, high level failure analysis by a layman: http://www.fiestafaction.com/forums/threads/44382-rear-door-latch-failure?p=213044#post213044. *tr
I was unloading stuff from my car and shut the door when it re opened , there was another incident where another door did the same thing ! i currently have two non working doors on my vehicle and both doors broke within a month. *tr
Rear door will not stay closed.... don't know how the nhtsi can let this happen. when i was at the dealer one of the employees mentioned that they get this complaint at least three or four times a day. looking through the complaint board i see it comes up frequently!! parts are on back order and we have to pay for the repair. *tr
When leaving work, i went to place something in the back seat of my vehicle (driver's side) and then proceeded to close the door. the door bounced back and would not latch to the car. after testing locks and trying to figure out the problem, it appeared the latch on the door was not working properly. a rope was tied from the inside handle to a seat in my car to prevent it from opening when i drive. *tr
I purchased a 2011 ford fiesta about 2 years ago. it had 11,000 miles on it at that time. in the past year the drivers door catch and the drivers side rear door catch have failed. my local ford dealer replaced the drivers door catch and we are now waiting for parts for the rear door catch. i am concerned about this because i was lucky enough that both times the failure occurred the vehicle was not moving. however if the vehicle had been moving ( i commute 40 miles per day) or i had been involved in a collision and the door latch failed it could be a very different story. my grand kids ride in this car and now i am afraid to take them in it for fear another latch may fail with them in the car. these latches are made of some kind of plastic, how can this be safe? i live in the phoenix area and the very hot summers here destroy plastic. these plastic door catches are unsafe. the door catch is currently on backorder, so i can't drive the car. i wonder how many other people have had this problem? *tr
The rear driver side door latch broke, causing the door to remain open. fortunately it happened while the car was parked, because a serious accident could have happened otherwise. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fiesta. the contact stated that the rear passenger side door failed to latch. the dealer stated that the rear passenger side door needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
I placed my grandson his car seat on the rear passenger side and tried to close the door, the door would not latch closed. we tried and tried to get it closed as we were on the other side of the city and needed to get home. the door would not latch. we had to have someone come bring us a strap to hold the door closed in order to get home that night. the next day i took my car to the ford dealership and was told that this has been a major concern with the ford fiesta and that the part was nationally back-ordered. i drove my car home with the door strapped closed and had it looked at in my hometown. the part was still nationally back-ordered. i am still waiting on my car to be fixed. i believe this is a defect and should be recalled immediately. *tr
While driving, driver side rear door came open while making a right turn, door had child safety lock engaged. my daughter (5 year old) was in her car seat on the rear left behind driver. i pulled over and door will no stay lached (closed) i had to use a strap from door handle to door handle to keep closed. my 5 year old had her seat belt on. thank god i don't have an issue with her and her seat belt. but i know some kids tend to remove the seat belt. *tr
After leaving the grocery store with my 5-year old daughter, i secured my child in her seat and buckled her then closed the door. as we were driving through the parking lot i made a turn and her door flew open and her toy and drink fell out of the car. i stopped the car to investigate and the door would no longer latch and could not be secured closed. thank goodness for seat-belts and that no pedestrians were nearby to be hit by the flying door or who knows what could be done. i have read several complaints from other ford drivers having the same issue and am stunned that there is not a recall. the car is absolutely un-drivable and unsafe due to a faulty part. *tr
Summary: rear passenger door latch malfunctioned and no longer locks, leaving the door ajar. details: upon closing the rear passenger door, the door bounced back open and failed to latch. after closer inspection, various attempted remedies, and further research, it was determined that the door latch had failed. the door has temporarily been held shut from inside the vehicle by using a ratcheting strap. the door ajar light is on, which also keeps the interior lights on at all times during driving. i have ordered a new door latch and will be replacing it at significant cost to me. *tr
Drivers side rear door will not latch shut. keeps popping open. have to keep back doors shut with bungee cords just to drive vehicle. have been waiting since august 2nd for a part that is apparently back ordered. was told by ford it would be here september 11th, but still have not heard anything yet. *tr
This morning at 6:00 am as i drop my son off to the babysitters to go to work in my beautiful green ses 2011 fiesta. i shut my back passenger door and it didn't close? luckily i had 2 bungie cords to hold it closed as i drove to a dealership to get it fixed.4 hours later and a rental car. berge ford calls me and tells me the part isn't in town(mesa az) and isn't available any where till august 25th 2014 3.5 weeks away and now i have no car for 3.5 weeks. at the dealership they state that the reason it will take so long, is because the past is on back order.they state that there has been multiple car's that have been brought to the dealership within the past couple weeks with the same issue. more then two cars a week they are seeing, but no recall?there sound's like there's a problem?! there's no way to keep the door shut and the vehicle is unsafe to drive. *tr
While i was driving the back drivers side door flew open. i had just recently put some packages in the back seat and shut the door. to my knowledge the door was closed. it appeared to be anyways. i took it in to berge ford dealership two days later. they told me i needed a new latch. they said this has been happening so much in the ford fiesta's and ford focus that they have a hard time getting the parts. apparently, there have been some recalls, but just not on my year of car. they suggested i get assistance from ford motor co. so a claim was filed. after calling ford every day for a week they finally gave me any answer on july 30th. they are going to pay for a new latch, but there hasn't been a recall as yet. my concern, is if that a child was in the backseat an injury or death could have occurred because the door does appear to be closed when shutting it. it is also concerning that this is an ongoing problem with these latches according to not only the dealer, but ford motor co. customer service manager as well. *tr

Back passenger door lock suddenly would not catch. warranty had expired 3 months ago although mileage only 28000. i took it to 2 dealers. one told me that they have seen at least 70 cars with this problem and that there have been so many that the parts are on back order. at the other dealership the customer service rep told me that he had already seen about 5 in the last month, in fact there was another vehicle there that day with the same issue, only it was a different ford model. my latch failure was unusual because it failed after the warranty had expired. most are failing under warranty. one dealership quoted me $600 to fix. the other dealership gave me a break since there was such low mileage and discounted it to $100. i suspect that this lock failure is happening to tens of thousands of cars, but nhtsa is not hearing about it because it is happening under warranty. *tr
When leaving the grocery store, i noticed that the indicator showed that the rear driver door showed open. we tried closing it but it wouldn't close. i drove home while my passenger held the back door closed. on the following monday, i took the car in to the dealership. after a few hours, they contacted me and said the part was on backorder and that it would be in at the end of the week. i talked to the person on wed. and they said the part was on the truck and would be there on friday so i made an appt. to bring my car back today. after 5 hours at the dealership, they told me that the part was on backorder until mid-august and that 2 other people brought in the same car today with the same problem. *js
After unloading groceries the passenger (right side, rh) rear door wouldn't stay shut. it would close all the way, but the latch mechanism wouldn't keep the door closed. this is a 4 door car + hatchback and this is the door we use the least. called ford about the problem and the part is on back order everywhere. this part is specific to the fiesta rear door, the front door latch is different as are focus door latches. i think this is a very dangerous problem due to the door not staying shut. we were lucky it happened when stopped in our driveway. *tr
Rear door latches fail to close both rear doors. they both failed approximately the same time. i now have them tied together from the inside. this is definitely a safety hazard. the dealer said there isn't a recall. they also stated it could take up to 3 weeks to get replacement latches because ford can't keep up with replacement parts. that tells me there is a problem. waiting to see if there will be a recall. ford wants approximately $500 to replace both latches because vehicle is no longer under warranty. i request you contact ford and have them replace the latches at no cost. *tr
In july the rear passenger door latch stopped functioning and the door wouldn't stay closed. in the middle of september the rear driver door did the same thing. today 10/29/14 the driver door latch is now faulty as well. each time it happen, the vehicle stopped, the door was opened and then it wouldn't shut. 3 different doors in almost 3 months. definitely something wrong with 2011 ford fiestas as this is happening to others according to news articles i read. *tr
The passenger side back door latch failed. a local car repair shop installed a ratchet belt in the backseat to keep the door shut and advised me to go to a ford dealership. the dealership sent me on my way saying that the part was "on back order" and i'd have to wait a month, without any help. i contacted ford customer service who told me that i'd have to pay $400 for the repair or deal with it. for a car right out of warranty by months and not many miles, this is unacceptable for a safety issue. *tr
