We have classified the 3 complaints from 2011 Ford Fiesta about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
The rear left door latch broke. i simply opened and closed the door. the latch must've broken when i closed it because the door came loose on my drive home. no accident occurred, but it is definitely a safety concern as the door could've hit an oncoming car since i couldn't immediately reach/secure the door. the door will close flush with the car, but just won't latch. neither handle seems to have any influence on the car latch either. this issue sounds like the 15s16 safety recall, but is reportedly not applicable to my car. i am paying to get the one door fixed, but am worried about the other doors doing the same thing.
I took the vehicle in to a dealership several years ago to address the faulty door latch assembly (passenger-side rear) as per the recall on this vehicle. i was told that this was due to a design flaw in the assembly (basically using a cheap part that easily breaks). last year, i had another door latch assembly (driver-side rear) fail after having all four of them supposedly replaced. i once again took it to the dealer who charged several hundred dollars as it was outside of the 1 year warranty window. the dealer and ford both told me i was out of luck and it was my problem. just last night i had another assembly fail, this time the driver-side front. i refuse to pay any money to them as these things are clearly faulty and a safety hazard, but they refuse to address the issue properly. i would like to know what recourse i have to force them to fix this safety issue properly once and for all.
Both of my rear door latches stopped latching. both occurred as the vehicle was stationary. there was a recall for the original latches, however a dealership indicated that they were replaced and my current latches no longer fall under the recall. however, having both rear door latches malfunction leads me to believe the safety of the replaced latches should also be looked into.
Passenger back door will not latch/close . i was not driving, i was trying to get something out the back seat, went to close the door and noticed it would not close anymore the latch is broken, i got the car last year so i was unaware of any recalls. my door won't stay close making it hard to drive
Even though ford states the recall on the door latches were done, the latches are malfunctioning again and the doors pop open going down the road.
1) door latches are faulty. any door can open while car is in motion. also, door latch sensors are faulty and cause all interior lights to come on if it thinks a door is open. happens within 1st mile driven every time since 80k miles. 2) in snow, the piece of body plastic in front of the front tires can get caught and dragged underneath the front tires. 3) electrical problems: fuse box rusts, prongs break off in fuse box. sometimes pushing clutch in would cause lights to dim or speaker static (manual transmission). problematic 12v (always hot) routinely broke 12v devices. dealership was unable to fix this at last warranty maintenance. 4) several dealerships were unable to solve or find the cause of any of the following: brake rotor usually causes howling sound under 30mph after a few miles, (started around 50,000 miles) and car sometimes shut off while stopped & idling (rare, started around 70,000 miles). also, manual transmission lever gets too sticky to move without extreme force unpredictably, (started around 25,0000 miles). every time was told transmission fluid looks fine. 5) high pitched whirring sound and loss of power with ac or defroster, worse as time went on 6) car was sold because cost to repair faulty door sensors leading to headlights never turning off, thereby causing battery to drain below 12v regularly, exceeded the car's value. car would not pass inspection with this issue & needed frequent jump starts. 7) extreme distraction: "sync" interface will cut off stereo audio without warning to try and connect to mobile phone for a vehicle health report in the middle of driving. 8) air flow sensor goes off frequently starting around 50,000 miles, only solution is spraying in lots of air flow sensor cleaner. 9) drivers side windshield wiper fell off about a dozen times, even dealership installed. very unsafe car in my opinion.
Door latch does not work, making the door for this vehicle unable to close. primary functions such as closing the door won't be able to be done as it does not close at all.
2/4/15, dickinson co. kansas, collision with fixed object, left turn, impact to passenger front corner, ran off right side of the road, struck fixe object, damage to both passenger front corner/quarter of car. 10/11/16, jackson co, missouri, moving in transport collision, impact rear of car, towing indicator, driver front and passenger airbags deployed. 2 accidents: former owner, not me. the car truck is always lifted when closed, front side of windshield frame is bumpy, passenger side near back wheel is bumpy, the car accidents smashed the car. transmission, jerks back and forth 24/7, going to, from street lights, intersections, like wants to die on normal straight street and on hills. the car rolls back on hills by itself. lack of acceleration speed from brakes to gas pedal. the 10/8/2018 phone call mike from florida, ford, tranmission settlement phone call said "transmission is the ford flaw". i went to the blue springs, mo, independence, mo, dealerships 4 times from march 13, 2017, july 4, 2018: battery fuse box recall. passenger door flew open/door latch recall, sept. 24, 2018, the blue springs, mo, dealership did not fix the tranmission, under 100,000 mile warrenty. the air conditioning compressor broke and it is not working from sept., 24, 2018, the cost to fix is $2,172, they charged $99.50 diagnostic, did not fix the air conditioning. the defroster is not working since oct. 10, 2018, it is connected to the compressor, when turned on the defroster makes a crank noise in the engine. the heater system has a weird crank noise when turned to low, high, does not work either. the bbb autoline closed my lemon law complaint case number frd1825535 case, did not help me, because they limit cases to 36,000 miles. the vehicle is a life hazard 24/7. my car is 82,130 miles. i can not drive this non-reliable car.
While driving down the highway, in a curve, my driver's front door swung open. this is a well known and documented issue, and a federal recall was issued. due to defective door latch, doors fly open while driving. the latch was replace once under recall. the vehicle, now, has the exact same issue. this issue is extremely dangerous, as it happens without warning, and the door won't remain closed, once the defective latch fails. both appel ford, and ford motor company, refuse to cover the repair, for this known recall issue. i believe the recall number is 15s16.
Rear hatch lock recall 2011 ford fiesta ses hatchback rear hatch lock malfunction. rear hatch (door) will not remain closed when parked and will open while vehicle is in motion or open unexpectedly once closed, potentially injuring vehicle operator / owner. this vehicle vin is not included in the current ford recall for this issue. vin - [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Driver side door will not latch randomly came open during driving and now door will not shut
Takata recall , i have a 2011 ford fiesta and the engine got messed up so i took it to a shop and they fixed it i paid 2,500 to get it fixed and when i'm driving my wheels go all crazy and all this sensors turn on and my door open last time with my 2 year old and my 6 year old inside and now it won't close.
Door latch fails
The vehicle was previously recalled for a door latch issue which was repaired under the recall on april 6, 2016. the replaced door latch on the passenger door failed on 6/11/17 for the same reason - the door would not latch. the passenger had exited the vehicle at a gas station and when attempting to shut the door all it would do was bounce and stay open. the original door latches had worked fine from august 2010, when the vehicle was purchased, to april of 2016. the recall replacement latch lasted from april 2016 to june 2017. is there a problem with the replacement latches? i have just gotten the car back from the dealership today after their repair.
Right rear door latch failed. i was parked and warning light alerted me to it when i attempted to drive again. had to pay to have it replaced at dealer.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fiesta. the contact stated that while driving into the driveway, the rear doors opened and could not be closed. the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
Passenger side back door will not latch. this is a door i very rarely use and was in a parking lot at a grocery store when i had to use that door to put groceries in the back seat. when speaking with the ford company they stated my car does not qualify for the safety recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fiesta. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v246000 (structure: body); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. the vin was not available. parts distribution disconnect.
Rear passenger door flung open while driving. had to hold closed with one hand while driving in downtown traffic. not a pleasant experience. even though there's a recall on all the door latches, due to a shortage of parts ford only has to replace the one that is broken, and will schedule the rest of the recall as the parts become available in the 3rd quarter. we're in the 3rd quarter, shouldn't their be enough parts available to fix the other three doors? 3rd quarter ends september 1st. really, i have to wait weeks for the other latches? they can't efficiently be replaced all at once? who assumes the liability for the other three doors while i wait to be scheduled? how am i supposed to feel comfortable having passengers in my vehicle or driving myself? doors opening while driving is a major safety issue, this should be treated with greater priority for customers that have experienced the problem. el paso, texas is supposed to experience triple-digit heat for the next week. if heat is what made the spring fail in the latch, i feel like a sitting duck.
Now on two different occasions the door locking mechanism has failed. first time sept 16th 2014 rear driver side passenger door lock failed. which is the least used door. then the second time the drivers door lock failed.bad luck or bad manufacturing processes and to add insult to injury ford dealerships are not providing loaner cars at their full expense. you have to get a loaner car from budget rental . they said it will be reimbursed to you less the tax? the ford dealer here in las vegas could not even give us an estimated time for the repair. very bad for ford with a service record like this. this leads me to the conclusion that i will not be going back to ford for our next vehicle. a door locking mechanism failing? how did this even get a 1 star rating?
Door flew open. according to internet, tow to nearest dealer for repair. we tied door closed and went to nearest dealer. friendly ford??? 660 n decatur blvd. las vegas nevada. were told to bring car back as they had to order door latch. all doors are defective but were told they would order only one latch at this time. told serviceman what if wife falls out? were told she should wear her seat belt. what about children in back seat? we only have one car. situation very dangerous. do not know when they will order all parts and repair all defective doors.
While driving down the highway the rear right door flew open and will not shut at all.it was a very terrifying experience being my 2 year old grandson was sitting beside it .having to try to get over on a busy interstate in okc, was scary at its best. there are not any dealerships open on sundays.i will never put a childseat in my car again.absolutely horrific !!! i now have no way to get to work . my car is useless, undrivable, which leaves me stranded, with no transportation to my job. will my car ever be safe ? do all the doors open on their own and never close again. not to mention i cannot lock my car. i am scared to drive this car again.
I opened the passenger rear door to put a package on the back seat. when i tried to close the door, it would not stay closed. it would shut and bounce back open and would not latch. i tested the latching mechanism and confirmed that it would not engage. i had to have a passenger hold the door shut on the short drive home and had to secure the door to the other passenger door with a bungee cord. i have contacted a dealer and will have to have the entire latch replaced and i'm not sure it's covered by warranty at this point. this is an extremely serious safety issue that should be subject to a mandatory recall by ford.
The car was parked in my driveway and after loading my child into his car seat in the back seat of the vehicle i attempted to close the door and it wouldn't stay closed. the latch wouldn't stay closed so i tried to close it again slowly, then firmer and still it wouldn't close. the door would pop back out. i can push it closed enough that the interior lights will stay off but it will open if i close any other doors or try to drive away. the latch on the door does not stay engaged on the car. *tr
While exiting a major highway, the passenger door flew open on the exit ramp. we were unable to close the door again and had to tie the door through the windows to continue our trip home. i contacted ford customer service, and although they are aware of this safety issue and a bulletin was issued regarding this malfunction on multiple makes and models, no recall has been officially issued. therefore, i had to fix the problem at my own expense. ford refused reimbursement. *tr
Rear passenger door opened while pulling out of the driveway. defective door latch is hardly ever used since only one person drives the vehicle. *tr
Door will not stay closed. door lock failed when i tried to shut the door. *tr
Passenger door latch does not secure the door after closure. after passenger entered the vehicle and closed the door, it immediately bounced open again. the latch is no longer operative and does not hold the door in place. ford have issued a recall on models 2012 to 2014 for exactly the same problem but we have the same issue on 2011 vehicle. my local ford dealer wants $550 to effect the repair. it seems like ford should extend the recall to all vehicle affected. *tr
The passenger side door swung open while the vehicle was in motion. luckily the passenger was not harmed but the door closed swung back very fast and very easily could have caused serious injury. the door has not been able to close since the time of the incident. the vehicle was taken to a ford dealer for inspection but since it was over 60,000 miles it could not be repaired within the warranty period. the problem is a faulty door latch. ford just announced it was recalling vehicles for that same problem but it does not include the 2011 model, only from 2012 to 2014 event though its the same part being used. *tr
Rear passenger door will not latch, called ford they would not talk about the issue when i advised i just read this complaint is currently be investigated. why won't they admit the issue and recall the problem before somebody (normally a child is in the back seat) is killed due to falling out. this car is used by my 20 year old daughter who has a 3 month old daughter that rides back there. i am going to have the problem repaired for the safety of my grandchild. i will seek legal representation to have the issue addressed. due to the mass volume of complaints is seems ford would be forced to a recall. *tr
Dropped off passenger in her driveway from front passenger seat. we both got out of car. when i returned to car i fastened seat belt. turned on ignition switch and 'open door' signal came on for passenger door. i got out of car, shut passenger front door and it did latch properly, got back into drivers seat and drove down her street. stopped at stop sign and signaled to make left hand turn into a four lane parkway. pulled out veering left to reach proper lane as passenger door flew open, which tripped red open door warning light and the audio warning. startled the bejesus out of me. i had to carefully cross all lanes to pull off roadway to right side shoulder to keep the opened right side front door from being hit by other cars. problem was sudden onset and i had never had a problem with warning lights or latch before 10/30/15, and i am the only owner car has had. *tr
As i was making a left u turn at approximately 10 mph, the passenger side door swung open and wouldn't close. now it seems the door latch won't catch. nothing appears to be broken or damaged, the door just wont close. *tr
Right rear door latch failed, unable to keep door closed, unable to recluse or latch door. *tr
When attempting to close rear passenger side door on 2011 ford fiesta, the door failed to latch and would not remain closed. upon closer inspection, the latching mechanism in the door would not remain in the latched position and would fall open under its own weight. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fiesta. the contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the front passenger door swung open when it was leaned on by the passenger. the door ajar warning light illuminated. the contact mentioned that the door crashed into an electrical pole, a mail box, and storm drain marker. the vin was included in the nhtsa campaign number: 15v246000 (latches/locks/linkages). the contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to the dealer prior to the failure and was told by the dealer that the vehicle would not be repaired until the failure was experienced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and wanted the contact to sign an agreement form that would require the contact to release ford from any claims and actions, present or in the future from any issues, suspected or unsuspected, before repairing the vehicle. the failure mileage was 94,721. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2011 ford fiesta. the contact stated that while exiting the vehicle and closing the front driver's side door, the trunk independently opened and failed to latch. in addition, all four doors failed to lock and the trunk open warning light illuminated. the failure occurred twice. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000.
I live on the island of st, croix, us virgin islands. on saturday february 21, 2015 after driving the car for several errands, i returned home and opened the rear passenger side door to take out some items. when i closed the door it would not stay closed. it seems as if the latch will not stay shut. i will contact the dealer on monday. *tr
I put my baby into her car seat, closed the back passenger door, and started driving when the "door ajar" warning light on the dash appeared. i immediately stopped and saw that the back passenger door was ajar. her door would not stay closed. nothing i attempted would fix it. the car was never damaged, and the broken door received barely any use, as she is under six months old. i had to tie a swaddle blanket to the handle and hold on while driving us home. i immediately called the dealership where we had purchased the car (ford akins) and was told that there were no recalls, despite the fact that there is an ongoing investigation, and that we would be charged to fix a glaring safety issue even though we had purchased the extended warranty and the car was exactly four years old. i was also told that they would have to order the part, and am now left waiting with my baby in the back of a car with a door that is duct taped closed. i consider this to be an extremely serious safety complaint, and don't trust that another door won't fly open while driving. *tr
The rear passenger door opened on its own and will no longer latch, nothing appears broken when looking at the latch. i have the door tied shut with rope. *tr
Passenger rear door latch won't engage or close. mechanic found a defective latch assembly. *tr
Driver's side rear door suddenly could not latch. took it to the dealer who charged $500 to fix it. car only has 47000 miles on it so it should not have happened. did not have any children so rarely used the rear doors. i do not think i should have been charged for the repair. *tr
My wife drives this car almost exclusively to work and rarely with a passenger. this day, i was the passenger and as we were leaving a friends house, i carried out a bag and opened the rear passenger side door, put the bag on the seat, and closed the door in a normal fashion. to my surprise, the door bounced back open. i inspected the door frame, expecting to find a seatbelt or similar preventing closure but there was nothing. i jiggled the handle and attempted to close the door again. it bounced. i then actuated the inside door handle and tried again. bounced. i cycled the child locks. bounced. then i inspected the mechanism that is designed to catch the door closed and found it could be moved freely with my finger or a device like a key. there was no mechanical resistance or "click" or any other indication that it would hold the door closed. i went to the driver side rear door and compared its closure mechanism to the passenger side door and found this device could not be easily moved. a quick google search found many similar problems documented with the only resolution being repair by ford. we were forced to drive home with the rear doors tied together to hold the passenger door shut. i made an appointment with mullinax ford who stated it was not under warranty or recall, even though online documentation suggests there is a federal investigation ongoing with this problem. the repair bill was $400+ dollars. i consider this to be a serious safety concern. i have no doubt it could have happened while the vehicle was in motion, potentially with back seat passengers. *tr
When a passenger attempted to close the front passenger door on this vehicle, it refused to latch. this is the third door latch on this vehicle that has failed. two doors have been repaired but one remains bungee corded closed due to the high cost of the repair. *tr
I unlocked the car and the driver's door latch closed to the locked position when door was still open. now unable to close that door. same thing then happened to left rear door. using in-car locking button doesn't do anything, neither does key fob. in both cases locking/unlocking sounds occur, but latch on open doors does not move. warming up car in garage did not help. the same car randomly locked the driver's door when i had motor on scraping ice off windshield approximately one month ago. *tr
Driver's side passenger door came open during driving. door latch will not keep door closed. have to tie together doors to keep them shut. major safety issue. *tr
A couple a months ago, my sister tried to close the rear door on the passenger side. the door just bounced off and i have to tie it to the passenger seat because ford told me that it's not covered and that i have to pay out of pocket for this something that it's not only my car that it happened too. this car is giving me headaches i just want my door fixed it's dangerous that i'm driving it this way but it's my only car. my door is making the seat lose because of it being tied to it. the door wont close!! *tr
Me and my children were at the mall and when we went to the car we discovered the driver's rear door was damaged. the door would not close completely and posed a threat to my children's safety. i paid $144.00 for the latch piece that seemed to be the problem. and another $128.00 to get it installed at my dealer. i use the highway to get home usually and i am afraid that any other one of the doors might open on their own while i'm getting home or while i'm driving with my children. *tr
Car right rear door which is not used very often will not stay in shut position. it is now tied shut and this is a safety issue. it appears the door latch is broken. *tr
The left rear door latch failed upon closing the door and bounced back rather than locking in. the door from then on could never be closed and had to be duck taped to ensure it would not open upon driving the vehicle. while driving the vehicle, the main dash board would constantly notify the driver that the door was still open and the ceiling lights would stay on while driving. *tr
I was rear ended by a ford f350 so hard that i hit the car in front of me, a honda accord. the back of my 2011 ford fiesta is smashed in and the front of the car, is smashed in. the back window is scattered, the sunroof slider fell back into the car, the front right wheel (passenger side) is bent, and the car does not turn on. i understand in rear end crashes the air bags usually do not go off, but when i hit the car in front of me, the air bags should have gone off. *tr
