I was driving on the atlantic city expressway on january 20th and at approximately 3:30 pm, i heard a very loud pop, as if a rock had hit my windshield. i checked and saw nothing, then looked in my rear view mirror and saw that the rear view window on the driver's side had just shattered. it was a clear day with light traffic and i have no idea how this could have happened. i had my soft cover on and it was still on when i arrived at the auto repair shop that wound up replacing the window. the owner of the shop said he hadn't seen anything like it. he called ford to see if they had any information and he was told that my vehicle was out of warranty and they had no recalls. unfortunately i didn't take a picture of it. however, i did search online and saw that other people have reported similar occurrences. i also saw that your organization is interested in receiving reports such as this, so that is why i am submitting it. it definitely surprised me when it happened and i am thankful no other vehicle was nearby as i did swerve initially. i am enclosing the invoice i received from the repair shop. they didn't charge me for anything but the parts. thank you for taking the time to read this!
I was backing up in my driveway, when all of a sudden i heard a big bang, i put my pickup in park and got out to see what it was, when i seen mine back driver side window shattered, i have no ideal what happened, and i did not have on the defroster, i am still puzzled what happened.
The rear driver side window shattered this morning from having my rear defroster on. i turned my defrosters on before work this morning and then drove approx 3 miles before hearing a loud sound from the top rear of my vehicle. it was a clear 1 lane road so it wasn't possible for anything to have hit me. eventually i saw that the entire rear window was shattered. the only thing unique was that i had my defrosters on. i looked on the internet to see if this could have been the cause and quickly realized that this is a known issue reported my many people. however, it doesn't seem like ford will accept it as their fault.
Rear window broke when rear defrost was activated.
Used remote start to start my truck after work. walked out to my truck to find the rear drivers side window to be completely shattered.
Rear window (power/sliding/defogging) shattered without impact. this is a known and heavily documented issue in the f150 community, where the rear power sliding window will shatter without any external factors or forces in play. in this case, it happened while vehicle was stationary in driveway, remote start on, and temp outside approx 30 degrees f. no ice, snow, or rain on vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40 mph, the rear driver's side window exploded and shattered without warning or an impact occurring. the vehicle was taken to gary yeomans honda (386-492-1703, located at 752 n tomoka farms road, daytona beach, fl 32124) where it was determined that the warranty was expired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while reversing out of the driveway with the rear defroster activated, the rear glass on the driver's side suddenly shattered. the cause of the failure was not determined. empire ford (106 jonesboro rd, abbington, va) and the manufacturer were notified, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 73,000.
The rear window in my 2014 f150 randomly exploded. this is the second time in a year and a half. the first time is was cold and i activated my rear defrosters. shortly after, i heard a loud bang and looked back to see my window completely shattered. the second time, it was 83 out and i was driving on local roads. both ovations the vehicle was traveling under 40 miles per hour
2013-2014 brake master cylinder leaking into the brake booster....my 2014 f150 has this same failure with 58k miles on the vehicle. it should be investigated and include this vehicle in the recall. my daughter was driving the vehicle this morning and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor when slowing to merge onto a us highway here in dagsboro, delaware 19939. windshield wiper/turn signal switch recall....this 2014 ford f150 has the same symptoms as those that fall under the recall notice whereas the windshield wipers will all of a sudden come on and you cannot get it to turn off. no matter if you are moving or not this can occur sporadically without warning.
On tuesday, 7/23/2019 with temperatures in the low 80's in the afternoon and high 50's in the morning by 3:30 p.m in my 2014 ford f-150, purchased from texas, currently in kansas, my rear, left, tri-window shattered while parked at my job location. my truck was parked in a stationary position for 8 hours. there is no evidence of anything impacting my window and according to the government mechanics that looked at my window, "heat got to it", my window was broken by the elements.
The recirculation/fresh air flap door connection to the actuator broke off and fell into the ac heater blower motor fan. current results are; 1) no control over air flow whether within the cabin (recirculation versus "fresh" air) and 2) that it makes a terrible noise and vibration as the broken part is within the circular fan. eventual result could be 1) burn-out of the fan motor with possible overheating of the fan motor (electrical fire?), 2) heat problems for passengers 3) failure to defrost windshield under cold conditions. in reading internet postings (forums), this is apparently a common problem with a high cost to have repaired, for a simple broken piece of plastic.
At 0630 on march 24, 2019 i exited the express way and was stopped at a stop light. when the light turned green, i started to turn right and i heard a loud bang. as i was checking my mirrors i noticed my rear window had shattered. there were no other cars on the road, and i had not hit anything. nothing struck my vehicle.
Rear driver's side window shattered with nothing hitting it. i have a cap on the truck it would be impossible for the trucks window to be hit by a rock without the cap having been damaged. truck was parked i came out and noticed the rear driver's side safety glasses was broke.
While sitting in a parking lot with no other vehicles anywhere near me, my rear window shattered. it remained intact and in place but every inch of it is spiderwebbed.
Rear window shattered, defroster was on for approx. 15 minutes and shut off as i got in. as i started to drive away, a loud pow and the driver side of the glass was shattered.
Sitting in a parking lot with rear defroster on, with blowing snow and approximately 38 degrees out side left rear window in 3 piece slider exploded. heard a loud pop after looking found window spiderwebbed the tint only thing holding it together.
I was backing out of a parking spot on sunday, march 10th, at 930am, and at less than 5 mph, by rear window behind the driver side seat cracked and spider-ed all across. there was no signs of anything making contact with my window, i have a bed cover as well, there were no rocks, tree branches, or balls of any kind to be suspicious of causing my window to break.
Driver side rear window shattered out of no where when stopped at a light. causig glass to cut my son.
Wiper motor, radio/ ignition system, remote locking/ unlocking & cruise control. 1st issue: wiper motor will not turn to off, the wipers run intermittently in the off position every 20-30 seconds the wipers will run. pulled fuse until repairs can be made to switch and/or module. 2nd issue: when ignition is turned off & key removed, and the radio is playing or off, a low battery warning message appears: remove ignition key and turn off the radio. the issue will not cure unless truck is vacated & locked. dealer can't replicate issue no repairs made but still occurs from time to time. 3rd issue: power lock/ unlock by remote does not communicate with truck intermittently, replaced both remote batteries still having issues getting truck to unlock/ lock. dealer can't replicate problem & no repairs are made. 4th issue: cruise control will not disengage when pressing brake pedal, have to turn off cruise control from steering column. this issue never returned to date of this complaint, no repairs made. this issue should be a safety concern. with all the issues with truck no warning dash messages or lights. thanks, (xxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
My rear window has spontaneously shattered twice in the last fourty days. i've tied the issue back to the rear window defroster being activated when the remote start is used which creates an extreme temperature differential between the air inside the vehicle versus outside the vehicle. ford does not acknowledge the issue, however it seems to be common issue i have done some research. this occurred on 1/21/2019 and again on 2/27/2019
Started 2014 f150 vehicle with remote start to warm up in 7 degree weather. got in truck, inserted and turned key to on. i backed up maybe 10 feet on my driveway and one section (stationary panel on drivers side) of back window shattered with an extremely loud pop. truck has electric powered sliding window equipped with defrost. vehicle has a nicely fitted cap so there was no impact against window. window did not fall out yet. vehicle has 62,000 miles. i called service department at ford dealership today to find out on recalls or if extended warranty would cover replacement. they said they would check and get back to me but no call yet.
I was driving to work on a fairly cold morning in february 2019 and my rear defrost was off and i went to turn it on, i pressed the control button once and it didn't come on and as i went to press it again i heard a loud pop. when i looked back i noticed the drivers side of my rear glass was shattered. i was almost to our shop and wasn't going but about 45 mph and there was nothing or nobody around that could have caused this.
While driving at 35 mph on a smooth road on a 30 day a loud noise was heard. the back rear driver side window panel of the rear sliding window shattered. the glass did stay in position until it could be taped by the dealership. the rear defrost / mirror heat was on at the time. this created an unsafe condition for my rear facing 4 month old child behind the driver seat and 3 year old child behind the passenger seat. this is the 2nd rear window for this truck. the first rear window the defrost system quit working. the dealership told me this is a common issue. i had an extended warranty and they will be replacing the window.
All the sudden i was just driving and the back window on the right shattered. it is cold outside and i had the defrosters on but i googled this and it has happened to many other ford 150 trucks my year. i now have to replace the window. it scared me to death when it shattered that i almost crashed.
Driver's side rear window shattered when i turned on the rear window defroster. the vehicle was stationary in my driveway. from doing some research, i understand this problem is a known issue with this; and other model year, ford f-150's.
Rear defroster on power sliding rear window began malfunctioning, working intermittently. suddenly the rear passenger side glass of the power sliding rear window spider web cracked and shattered. defroster was activated at the time.
I was driving to work around 6:30 am 1/15/2019. i had turned on rear defrost while i was warming up my truck. i heard a loud sound and a burning smell. i didn't notice any damage when i got to work, however it was still prior to sunrise when i got to work. i left work around 510 pm and notice my rear sliding window was cracked entirely, but the glass was still being held in by the window tint. i have researched online and have seen that this is reoccurring problem with this vehicle. it seems that this would warrant a recall campaign. i am making an insurance claim and currently dont have any documentation to submit.
Before entering the vehicle i used the factory remote start option. upon entering the vehicle i was preparing to depart from the parking space. myself and the other occupant of the vehicle heard a loud "bang". upon looking towards the rear of the vehicle it was noticed that the rear window had shattered. at this point it was still crackling as it had just happened. i then exited the vehicle and inspected the window from the outside of the vehicle and did not find any evidence of impact. upon further research and investigation this is a common issue. it is from the way the window is made in a plastic housing, when the rear defroster comes on it heats the glass, and the glass has no room for expansion and it causes it to shatter. outside temperature was 22 degrees f.
January 11, 2019 my eco boost fx4 was just at 65k on the odometer experienced a hard shutter like many on the forums say and wouldn't accelerate on the interstate. code came up misfire. replaced all my spark plugs, that aren't suggested for change for change until 100k. gap opened from .28 to .45. intercooler had a good bit of oily residue in it. i also since then installed a vapor catch can for over 400$. it's a shame you have to do that. also i recently had my rear defrost on the stop working on the model with the rear sliding window. which again has many complaints. fords fix is to replace the whole rear window at a heavy price. box being able to defrost is a major visibility issue especially in the winter. both issues have many complaint online and ford hasn't fixed either. the picture of the coke bottle is what drained out of the catch can by npr. it was 1 month of commuting and a 8 hour road trip.
I was driving on the off ramp from the highway when i heard a loud pop. i looked in my rear view mirror to see the driver side panel of my back window shattered.
I was simply backing out of the parking lot at work, and a loud 'pop' and the rear window shattered. truck had been warming up, and i feel it may have been due to the rear window defrost. when i got out to look, there was no indication of any impact to the windshield.
While i was in motion driving to work on a cold morning in my neighborhood, (7am @ 5mph) my rear window completely shattered on one of the three pieces that make op the rear window. it has the heating element integrated within the window and i suspect this damage was due to a rapid temperature change. no one was around the vehicle at the time of incident except for myself.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact stated that the rear window behind the driver's seat unexpectedly shattered. the vehicle was taken to courtesy ford (3921 w river dr, davenport, ia 52802, (563) 326-4011) where the contact was referred to a local glass repair center for repairs. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 17,000.
Rear driver's side window shattered via a faulty defroster. ford says it is not a known issue, but there are many website forums showing that indeed it is a known issue. there needs to be a recall on these windows. i used the remote start to warm up the vehicle (it was 47 degrees outside, so no frost, etc) for about 7 minutes. i then drove the truck and just around the corner from my house the window exploded. it sounded like a gunshot in the cab of the truck. i almost crashed the truck from being started by the sound. there is no way that "impact" cause the window to explode, since i have a shell/topper on the back. i contacted ford corporate and they only "logged it" but said it wouldn't be taken care of, that i would have to pay for the repairs. https://www.glassbytes.com/2014/08/nhtsa-receives-more-complaints-of-shattering-f-150-back-lites/ http://fordauthority.com/2017/12/another-ford-f-150-owner-claims-the-rear-window-shattered-despite-no-impact/#comment-356949 https://abc7chicago.com/automotive/driver-says-her-f-150-window-spontaneously-shattered/2773127/ https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2016-rear-window-shattered-406698/
Rear cab glass drivers side shattered 10 min after remote starting truck. stationary vehicle. sat in truck for a few minutes and heard what sounded like gunshot to the roof. got out and examined roof, no trees or anything around. found one of the rear glass panels shattered. rear defrost button would never light up (figured it was broken). was set to automatically come on when remote starting truck. temp was between 20-25 f. rear window defrost button now lights up for the first time. quick internet search reveals that this exact scenario happens to thousands of others with this truck. a random exploding window due to having a rear defrost on in the winter should not be paid for by the owner. this is a clear defect in the vehicle.
Started my truck with the remote start and had the rear defrosters on my wife and i got into the truck to start driving head a pop noise and the left rear glass shattered
Turned on truck with remote start and rear defoster kick on and heated up and shattered left rear slider window vehicle was parked in my driveway
There seems to be a problem with the rear defroster system on all ford f150's from 2011thru 2016. it either just stops working causing a electrical short and possible fire and electrical damage or bodily injury if contacted by a person, or most commonly it will shatter the rear window causing a visual obstruction out the rear while driving. another issue with this defect is that when the window does shatter, it has been known to create a hole in the glass which could lead again to a person being injured with the broken glass. i did some research on this, and within 20 minutes i have discovered over 200 other customers with the same problem. unfortunately the dealers nor the customers notify the manufacture of the issue. i don't know how many of these have been replaced by warranty, but it seems that the ford dealers say it is a $700 repair because you have to replace the whole rear window and there for no one wants to take the responsibility of fixing it. this is a serious safety issue due to the risk of possible bodily injury and driving hazard restricting the vision while driving. please, could you help with resolving this serious issue. thank you
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. after the contact started the vehicle remotely and shifted into reverse, the rear driver's side window shattered. the vehicle was taken to sunbelt ford lincoln (2926 north slappey boulevard, albany, ga 31701, 888-401-4376) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Remote started 2014 ford f-150. rear window heater was on due to dew on rear window. outside air temperate was 42 degrees f. truck was running outside for 5 minutes. loaded 2 children up and drove 30 seconds when i heard a loud pop. pulled over and noticed that the rear drive'rs window was completely cracked. small glass particles were noticed. window frame was very hot to the touch and visibility was greatly reduced. this appears to be either a defect of the heating element, controller, or window.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while operating the vehicle, the rear defroster failed to operate. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer (amato ford, 1510 main st, mukwonagon, wi) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was notified and no s*olution was offered. the failure mileage was 30,000. *tt*jb
Left most rear window shattered. i used the remote start to turn on the vehicle for a few min to warm it up then as i got in i sat there for a couple minutes when all of a sudden i heard a loud bang and the rear glass shattered. after that there was an electrical burning smell in the truck. i noticed burn marks on the plastic housing surrounding the glass. truck was stationary and not a single person was around me so i knew an object didn't hit it unless it was a meteorite. i did some research online and noticed thousands others with the same issue. this has to be recalled for safety. i work at the ford plant in buffalo and they need to take responsibility for this. i shouldn't be paying out of my pocket for these faulty defrosters.
On the morning of august 10, 2018, i was driving when i heard a loud noise coming from the inside of the truck. when i viewed the damage, the back windshield was shattered from the inside. looking from the outside, there was no visible damage.
I was sitting idle in my ford f-150 truck (engine running) in the drive-through at mcdonalds, not moving, when there was suddenly a loud bang inside the truck (like a gunshot). there was also an electrical burning smell. i looked around and saw that the rear quarter glass on the left side of my rear windshield had shattered. the rear screen heater was on at the time. there was nothing thrown at the truck, and nothing hit it. the glass had totally shattered across but was being held intact by the factory tint. i had to have the glass replaced at a cost of $750, as the repair was not covered under my extended warranty. the individual broken piece of glass cannot be replaced, so the whole rear screen had to be replaced. i disconnected the rear screen heater on my replacement screen to make sure this doesn't happen again. reading online it sounds as though this is a very common issue, and an expensive fix. moreover, all of my local ford dealerships had sold out of the rear window and would have taken up to 16 days to order in (and at a cost of $850+ !!), which makes me think this is more common issue than ford is letting on. luckily i found a local company that would do it a few days later, but again, at a cost of $750 to me for a defective part which should be recalled. during the time i had to use the truck with a shattered rear window, i taped it up to prevent the glass spilling into the truck interior (can be seen in the picture).
2014 ford f150 split/powered/heated rear window popped and cracked when using the defroster causing the driver side rear window pane to shatter (spider web). the vehicle was stationary at a red light when the window popped.
Rear drivers side panel wwindshield shattered . turned on rear windshield defroster and after a minute or so heard a large bang. was driving to work. straight. temp wa in the low twenties. got snow and ice in lake county illinois.
I have an f150 super crew cab with a power sliding window in the back that is 3 separate pieces of glass. while driving on a highway at about 50 mph with the rear window defrost on, the driver's side rear window suddenly shattered (stayed mostly in tact but spiderwebed throughout). it made a loud bang like the sound of something falling on the roof or a gunshot. there is no visible damage to the outside of the vehicle and it is very aparent that this was an internal failure of either the window or the rear defrost overheating. i am afraid that this could have been a huge safety problem if my daughter had been in the carseat which is directly under it since small pieces of glass did come out. this is a 2014 model with approximately 32,000 miles. there are lots of complaints regarding this exact same issue if you do a web search for f150s ranging from 2010 to 2014.
The rear window exploded for the second time, in driveway after starting car with remote starter. the first time it happened was in december 2016, when the vehicle was in a relatives driveway heating up, after being started with the remote starter.
Rear window shattered when rear defroster is on. throwing small shards of glass into vehicle.
