We have classified the 2 complaints from 2013 Ford F-150 about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
On october 11, 2019 @ approximately 4::15pm i parked my vehicle at a local store to shop. i exited my vehicle and upon activating the remote door lock, i heard a loud 'pop' that sounded like something struck my vehicle. i performed a brief inspection of the exterior of my vehicle but found no evidence that the vehicle was struck by anything. upon my return drive home when checking my rear view mirror, i then noticed that the rear glass window on the passenger side was shattered. upon my arrival at my home, i inspected both the interior and exterior of the broken glass and could not find any indication that the glass was impacted by a foreign object nor did i find any possible cause of the breakage.
2013 ford f150 raptor. been reading about several 2011 to 2016 about the rear back glass defrost not working due to bacd contacts on the window or even shaders for no reason. i think ford should replace this if it fails. with the back defrost not working also makes the side heated mirrors not work due to then being on the same circuit.
I'm calling this a safety issue due to erratic unlocking of driver door. door when operated by remote to unlock, most times needs 2 actuations, of handle to actually open by user. my wife after shopping felt a presence and tried to enter our vehicle and was badly frightened when she could not enter immediately she pulled on handle without opening door and thought she had not actuated the remote correctly she preformed the action to unlock and had to pull door handle 2 times to enter and lock it to feel safe. he vehicle was stationary and i don't know if this fits the standard for a safety issue. it seemed like it at the time. dealer wants a diagnostic charge to remedy which i thought was unfair vehicle has 82,000 miles
Car started to rust quick had air bubles built up on vehical went to the nearest dealer to get that done they told me they cant do anything about it when i bought the car and the speed sensor they dont want to fix it for dealer is located on rt 30 in plainfield.and my feul meater on the dasboard is inacurate
Rear drivers side portion of center sliding window shattered for no reason while the vehicle was parked, unoccupied and not running. topper is on the box, which rules out any sort of impact.
Upon using my remote start, and thereby using the rear defroster, the driver side rear window made a very loud pop sound while i was standing near my parked car. upon examination, the entire passenger rear window panel was shattered and spider-webbed. it appears to be a relatively common issue with ford trucks as of late.
Rear power window shattered with no impact damage found. vehicle was remote started at roughly 5:00 am, ambient temperature was approximately 55 degrees fahrenheit. as i was exiting my house, the vehicle idling in the driveway, i heard a loud bang / pop. sounded like a rock being throw at a body panel. i inspected the roof and hood at the time thinking something fell from a tree but no dent or object was found. at 12:08pm i took my lunch break and when at a stop light i looked in the rear view mirror to see the glass spidered but still in place from the window tint. i pulled over to take a look for impact damage but none was found. upon returning to work, took pictures of the exterior glass in case of any coverage where evidence is needed. a quick google search showed that this seems to be a common issue and that it may be associated with the rear window defroster. i work in the automotive field, specifically a dealership service employee, and know when it is a defect or if there was outside influence and i can say without a doubt that this is a defect. either in the glass itself or with the heater circuit / grid. this is unacceptable from a quality standpoint as well as from a business standpoint.
Was driving vehicle with doors locked took a corner and the door lock failed and the door flew open along with a lot of personal items, then a few days later the other door did the same thing, the door latch failed and the door swung open! 2011 and 2012 ford f-150 have a recall on this but ford says my truck does not!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle chassis felt loose. the contact was driving next to a larger vehicle and the air from that vehicle would draw the contact's vehicle closer, almost causing a crash. the contact stated that the rear of the vehicle felt the loosest and it was difficult to drive with a trailer attached. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 29,000.
The back window, on the drivers side, shattered with the defroster on when activated by the remote start function. it was 25f, i put something in the back of the truck, locked it, hit remote start and walked away for about an hour. i came back, opened the back door to remove what i needed and saw the window was shattered. the truck was sitting in a parking lot overnight and had not moved.
When i turned on the rear defroster my rear window shattered
I heard a loud pop while driving and discovered one section(driver side) of my back window was cracked. it is a powered window with defrost.
I entered the vehicle at about 10 pm on 12/31/17 and started driving home. it was cold so i turned on the windshield defroster and the rear window defroster. about 5 minutes into my trip i noticed a light on the dash go on then off and was not sure which one it was then it flashed again it was the rear window defroster button. the next thing we heard a very loud pop like and saw the rear window shattered. it is a power slider just the section directly behind the driver shattered. i did some research and found out there has been numerous complaints about this very same thing. next i will be going to a local dealer and making a complaint because from what i can see there has not been any recalls on this matter. what is it going to take to get a recall on this? i believe the ford motor company should absorb the cost for the replacement
Rear driver side passenger door will not open from either the inside or outside of the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the service warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to ted britt ford (11165 fairfax blvd, fairfax, va 22030) where it was diagnosed that the lead frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,500.
Vehicle was parked with both drivers side door open. i was getting something out of the rear compartment when a gust of wind blew the drivers door suddenly causing the bottom corner of the door to strike me on the calf of my left leg. i was virtually disabled with pain and stiffness for two days and gradually improved with rest. the whole left calf was yellowish purple. i am back to about 80% now and he calf still shows the bruising but i hope to make a full recovery. this is not the first time something like this happened with this vehicle but it is the worst. the doors almost seem like sails in the wind, even as low as about 15 mph. there seems to be no damping on door action as i have seen on some other cars. i can imagine if a child had been standing where i was, injury could have been internal or to the head. i had intended to copy ford motor company on this matter but they do not seem to have any way to send them email, and i wanted to have a copy of whatever i sent.
Body of the truck is rusting out over the wheel wells.
03/31/17 vin [xxx] was rear ended at 80 mph. [xxx] was pushed into the concrete center divider upon impact the drivers airbag failed to deploy, resulting in injury to the driver. drivers side curtains deployed. vehicle is preserved in evidence. detailed photos and police report are available of inspection. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My passanger side of rear window just shattered and scared my 11 year old daughter and i. it was about 23f in dover, nh at 10:50am i used the remote starter to start the truck before heading out with my daughter. the truck ran in the driveway for about 5 minutes. we both got in the truck and i started to slowly back down the driveway when we heard a very loud bang just as i was backing into the street. when i looked back i saw the passanger of the back window shattered. i came inside and researched what i needed to do to have this fixed, i saw hundreds of posts of the same thing happening to others. this is clearly a defect that ford is not taking care of! the truck is a 2013 f150 supercab with 26k miles it has the sliding glass window with defrost.
The back doors will lock and u can't unlock then. i've had this problem for a couple years. i've had both back doors lock on me for 3 days i could not open either. than they unlock. i still have the right rear door locked . safety concerns if you were involed in a crash and had passengers in the back they would not be able to get out. i never know when they will unlock
The rear window shattered when i turned on the defroster.
Rear doors will sometimes lock and can't open them from inside or the outside of the vehicle,( even manually) then at random they will start to work again. we had the same problem with our 2014 ford explorer. this is a very dangerous situation, as having children in car seats and not being able to get them out. *tr
Turned on defroster this morning, drivers side rear glass shattered 5 minutes later. traveling at 65 mph, expressway, light traffic and no outside influence. first thought ,after a loud pop, was that my truck had been shot at.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that both the rear driver and passenger doors would not unlock and could not be opened from inside or outside the vehicle. in addition, the door failed to open with the remote access fob. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,400.
Total brake system failure as i was driving on residential streets. without warning, within one block vehicle went from having fully functional brakes to total brake loss. previous to failure, vehicle exhibited no handling issues, sounds, or symptoms to indicate that there was a problem. the vehicle was traveling approximately 25 mph when i touched the brakes. without warning a loud, high pitched sound started coming from the front drivers side of the vehicle. the sound lasted about 5 seconds. when the sound ended, the brakes did not function and when i pressed the brake pedal it went straight to the floor without resistance. all regularly scheduled and recommended maintenance had been preformed. as a result of brake failure, vehicle sustained damage to passenger side. the vehicle was towed to the dealership. avis ford dealership preformed the repairs. i asked the dealership if they were aware of any similar issues having been reported and they said that they were unaware of such similar reports.
On january 13, 2015 i was involved in a head collision with a 18 wheeler. the scenario was a two lane highway (hwy 67, lakeside , ca), there is minimal room for error and upon impact. i remember my brakes depressing completely to the floor board , yet as though there was no air lines. it has been a long recovery, which is why certain things are returning slowly. yet, i remember that my brakes felt off or un-responsive before impact.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle from the front passenger side. during the crash, the hood opened and smashed through the windshield and into the front passenger seat. the air bags failed to deploy. the contact sustained minor injuries to the neck and lacerations to the head and both hands that did not require medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 15,000. djr
I started my truck with remote start to warm up when i got in truck i turned the rear defrost on and my drivers side back glass shattered temperature out was 42degrees truck was in garage my little girl was in car seat in the middle what if glass would have gotten it her eyes just glade it shattered and didn't blow up. *tr
Using the factory remote, i started the 2013 ford f150 for first time of the day 12/18/14 and entered vehicle 5 minutes later. put key in column ignition. did not touch any controls. with the transmission still in park, a very loud noise occurred. one section of the rear window / backlite had shattered top to bottom, edge to edge. the outdoor temperature was 24f, the heat setting was 67f. vehicle was backed into driveway with garage behind. nothing could have hit the window from the outside and the vehicle hadn't moved, yet the glass practically exploded. there are dozens of very similar experiences shared on several internet forums involving years 2010 forward of the same model truck -- same generation. ford has not created a tsb and there isn't a recall, and ford has made no indication that they will do anything about it. they referred me back to a dealer to document the damage. local ford dealer told me afterward that the rear window defrost turns on automatically with the remote start feature. now driver visibility is obscured and i'm concerned about the safety of the electrical heating element. reportedly fires have occurred with this situation. i won't be using the rear defrost under any circumstances -- even in northern illinois, in the winter. it seems most owners have been denied warranty claims because ford stated the damage was to glass, which isn't covered under the warranty. the glass isn't the problem, its the evidence. ford said it is up to the dealer to determine if the damage is due to a manufacturer's defect to get replacement under warranty. the dealer service manager told me they submit a warranty claim with photos to ford which will either approve or deny the claim. the dealer quoted $800.00 installed to replace the entire backlite assembly. the two different stories are troubling. i'm already preparing myself for the run-around. *tr
The rear window shattered! after haven driven for an hour and a half in sub freezing temperatures, with the mirror defroster on, when i arrived at my destination i got out and closed the door and i heard a loud pop and the tinkling sound that shattered glass makes as it falls to the ground. it seems to me that the rear window and in combination with the mirror defrost system is a crude "open loop" heating system that works on a timer instead of a temperature feedback loop to control the temperature of the glass. the rear window defroster is also tied to the driver's side and passenger's side mirror defrosters, so when you turn the mirror defroster on the rear window defroster is also on. i have a cap on the truck so the rear window doesn't see as much cold air as the mirrors do, but all three stay on the same amount of time. there is a timer circuit that turns the defroster off after 10 minutes and the mirrors immediately frost back up once it turns off, so i hit the button and they come back on again. you have to do this every 10 minutes while you are driving in freezing temperatures or the mirrors are unusable. i don't use the rear window defroster, but i need the mirror defroster. so my theory is that because of the "cheap" design of the window defroster system, the rear window over heated to the point that the pressure developed inside the cab when closing the door shattered the overheated glass. the exact problem happened before on 01-29-2014! *tr
The rear window shattered! after haven driven for an hour and a half in -04 degree f temperatures, with the mirror defroster on, when i arrived at my destination i got out and closed the door and i heard a loud pop and the tinkling sound that shattered glass makes as it falls to the ground. it seems to me that the rear window and in combination with the mirror defrost system is a crude "open loop" heating system that works on a timer instead of a temperature feedback loop to control the temperature of the glass. the rear window defroster is also tied to the driver's side and passenger's side mirror defrosters, so when you turn the mirror defroster on the rear window defroster is also on. i have a cap on the truck so the rear window doesn't see as much cold air as the mirrors do, but all three stay on the same amount of time. there is a timer circuit that turns the defroster off after 10 minutes and the mirrors immediately frost back up once it turns off, so i hit the button and they come back on again. you have to do this every 10 minutes while you are driving in freezing temperatures or the mirrors are unusable. i don't need the rear window defroster, but i need the mirror defroster. so my theory is that because of the "cheap" design of the window defroster system, the rear window over heated to the point that the pressure developed inside the cab when closing the door shattered the overheated glass. the very same problem happened again on 12-10-2014. *tr
Ford f150 xlt 2013. on multiple occasions i have noticed that when exiting the truck my right foot tends to brush against the interior hood release latch and occasionally triggers and releases the hood. i have experimented and it really does not appear to really require much force for the time of my right shoe to trigger the latch. then when later driving the truck, i visually not that the hood has been released and have to stop and fully open the hood to close it. this has happened multiple times and i cannot believe that this is an isolated problem. otherwise the hood latch mechanism appears to function normally. i am afraid that one day this will cause a bad accident if i don't realize that the hood has been opened. it seems to me that the latch is located in a prone area and perhaps actually should require more tension to fully trigger the release. *tr

At or aroung 500 miles on my brand new 2013 ford f150 svt raptor a message come up on the 4.2 incd lcd that read "check fuel inlet". i was at a gas station putting gas in my truck and while i was pumping gas i called harbin ford and spoke with a service rep. and told them what had come up on the lcd. the service rep. told me to open the back door and look under the back seat on driver side and there should be a white funnel looking object about 6 inches long. i pulled up at my home and parked my truck under our carport which has 2 open walls and another to enter the carport. on the north end the carport is supported by 3 steel poles which holds the carport up which is attached to our house. i placed my truck in (p) park and left the engine running, my mother was outside about 10 feet from my truck. and i thought before i got in my truck that maybe i should try the funnel deal mentioned earlier in this description. so i just opened the back door because the front was already open because i left my truck running and it was in the (p) position but i got the funnel and opened the fuel door and started sticking the funnel in and out repeating several times. and about the 2nd or 3rd time sticking the funnel in and out of the fuel inlet my truck acted like someone had placed my truck in reverse and it started coming in reverse. my mother seen this and she screamed at me to get out of the way and i just seen a opening between the doors and i somehow ended up in the driver seat and i hit the brake and to disbelief i looked at the driver side door and it was almost ripped completely off and the driver side fender was also crinkled up from the door catching on the last pole exiting our carport. i looked over at the auto transmission and the truck was still in park? *tr
I have a white paint job on my pickup, came that way from the factory.. shortly after i bought it some tiny round rust spots appeared on the whole truck. fords "acid washed it" and the spots came back. the same thing happened on my 2011 ford explorer, they acid washed it twice because i was so mad then the spots came back. they said it was environmental. fords says it only happens on the white paint jobs, maybe because the other colors it doesn't show up. i am furious that fords lets this go and doesn't change something. it happened on my 2011 explorer as i said and now its the 2013s. help me!!my whole truck has little rust spots all over....updated 02/22/17 *bf
My brand new ford f150 svt raptor was in park at my residence and while i was standing outside my truck it started coming backwards like someone put it into reverse. my mother was in the yard and she is a witness to what happened. i had both of the doors open and while it was like someone had put it into reverse which no one was in my vehicle i jumped into the truck and tried to apply the brake it was too late. the truck while coming in reverse which the transmission was in park the drivers side door caught the pole on our carport and about ripped the door off. i called everyone under the sun with the ford company and they thought i was telling them a fib. i don't know what can be done about this but something needs to be done because it could hurt or cause a death to someone..... *tr
The rear end locks up when going around a corner. in a full cab and a 6.5 foot bed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that there was water leaking from the vehicle's roof onto the seats. there were no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken four times to perry ford (440 hitchcock way, santa barbara, ca 93105, (805) 682-2411) where it was diagnosed that the water was entering through the brake light. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 16808179. the failure mileage was 27,000.
