Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. when the brake pedal was applied, it failed to engage and disengage without warning. the contact had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal to ensure that the vehicle made a complete stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and repair, but the failure recurred. the brake pedal was hard to depress and slow to respond when applied. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v345000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the parts were not available within a reasonable time frame. the contact was unable to determine when the vehicle would be repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
There is an un-normal vibration when applying brakes. i think the rotors are bad.
While driving truck about 1/2 mile away from my house i applied my brakes and the brake pedal went down. to floor after pumping the brake pedal several times the vehicle stop. i got scare and made a u turn to head back home and the low brake fluid low came on i pulled into a auto zone parts store open the hood and saw the brake reservoir was about 1/4 " fluid in the brake fluid reservoir.. i went into the auto zone store and purchase a bottle of dot 3 32oz brake fluid. i pour it in the reservoir and pump the brakes. then check underneath the vehicle to check for any sign of leaks around the back plate around all the tires the rotors and rims and line there were no signs of any leaks .underneath the vehicle. i checked the reservoir once again was. low again i pour more brake fluid into it. i pumped the brakes several times it held up so i processed back home. as a got close to my home the low brake fluid level came back on i applied my brakes and almost [xxx] on myself the brakes failed once again about fifty feet from my home i pumped the [xxx] out of the brake pedal until it finally came to a stop.. i checked the reservoir once again it was freaking empty i looked under once again to leaks could be found.. i left the truck there checked the web page to see if any incidents with my type of vehicles had encounter this type of brake failure while driving this ford f150 type vehicle found this nhtsa preliminary evaluation on this real safety matter: status: open dated opened - february 29, 2016 recall : #pe16003 possible recall please take action before some one gets killed> calling dealer up today>>>> information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The warning light for low brake fluid came on while slowly moving in traffic. vehicle was immediately parked as there was a safe place to do so. brake master cylinder reservoir was checked and had very little fluid. brakes were almost completely gone and pedal went to the floor. i called roadside assistance to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. the dealer found the brake fluid had leaked back into the booster and both the master cylinder and booster had to be replaced. i was fortunate no one was hurt or any crash resulted but i truly hope something is done before we hear of someone being hurt.
Brake peddle goes almost to the floor when trying to stop. you have to give extra time and pump the brakes to stop. i had the brake pads replaced and the issue got worse and the mechanic stated there was an issue with the master cylinder. this should not be an issue at 48,000 miles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while approaching a stop sign at approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when it was depressed. the failure occurred without warning. the contact pulled over, checked the brake fluid, and noticed it was empty. the contact purchased fluid from an auto parts store and refilled the brake fluid; however, the brake fluid was empty again a mile down the road. roadside assistance towed the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact notified the manufacturer. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Disappearing brake fluid. refilled 3 times in a matter of 15 miles. refilled again at home pumped brakes the fluid is draining but is not found on the ground.
Yesterday when i got into my truck and started it the low brake fluid light came on and the brake pedal instantly went to the floor leaving the truck with no brakes. i got out and checked the brake fluid reservoir level and it was completely empty but, there was no leaks anywhere, the truck had to be towed to get fixed. i discussed it with joe and upon exploring this further joe came across the attached article and it turns out this sudden total loss of breaks has happened to several other f150 truck and are being investigated.
Low brake fluid warning then no brakes when traveling after work. brake pedal to floor with no brakes. emergency brake used to get home. brake fluid reservoir empty and no apparent signs of leakage. from other sites on internet this appears to be a common problem with the master cylinder seal leaking fluid to booster. fluid level normal when checked 3 days previous prior to leaving for a 1,000 mile trip. will take to ford dealer 08mar16
I have had my vehicle for a little over two years and have had to have my front breaks and rotors replaced 4 times. the first time being within the first month of purchase of my vehicle. ford did the first replacement for free, but i have paid for the rest. the rotors show unusual wear and warping every time. even with new rotors and pads the breaks are squeeky and jerky. this has not caused me an accident yet, but i have had to replace the brakes every 20 to 25 thousand miles otherwise i feel like they would have failed.
I was driving my vehicle going towards charlotte's saddlery, which luckily was close to the ford dealership. i was within a mile or two when this happened. all of a sudden the brake fluid light came on and then i heard a bang and smoke came out of the right side of the front of the car and i lost brakes. i could no longer brake but fortunately was not on a highway so i just drove the mile to the dealership very slowly keeping a big distance from any cars.
Started 2 weeks ago it was a cold 20 degree morning and my brake light / parking brake light was on. a little later it was off and thought it must be a switch. short while later it was on and off and on over and over. i checked the brake fluid and found it to be between the max and min levels. i have put more in since then. the trucks braking for the most part seems ok but have noticed at times in town the pedal does sink slightly lower than normal. now i have see this problem and it makes since its having symptoms similar to what others are complaining of. it is a 2013 f-150 fx4 3.5 eboost. i hope ford takes this serious i i'll be taking this to the ford dealer here local to me and having it looked at. this problem makes me nervous does ford even offer a updated part that won't break down again if i have my vehicle fixed? noticed if i'm parked on. on a hill facing down the hill the light will go off but flat or any other position light comes off and on also brake fluid is down little bit again.
My son was driving to school, normal speed, pressed the brakes to stop at a stop light. he pushed the brake to the floor and the truck had no brakes, did not stop and slid in to the person ahead of him. luckily, no one was hurt, but his vehicle sustained over $3000 in damages. the person ahead of him had no damages. even now, the brakes are very light and you have to press down super hard. i am very nervous about him or anyone driving this vehicle. the dealer will do nothing about it. we purchased this vehicle in december of 2015.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 5 mph, the brakes failed without warning. the contact depressed the brake pedal all the way to the floor and had to place the vehicle in park to stop. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder and booster pump needed to be replaced. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
3 weeks ago, the front brakes on my '13 f150 began vibrating for long periods of time at slower speeds and did not feel like they were releasing at all after braking. this occurred when the brakes were still cool and in all conditions, dry, snow and rain. the truck had barely 40k miles so i took it to brakes plus and they said that the brake pads were completely falling apart; disintegrating they said. i had them install new brakes ($275) and the vibration went away for 2 weeks, but started up again. it could be felt in the steering wheel and appeared to be keeping the vehicle from accelerating. i took the truck back to the dealership (larry h miller ford, lakewood, co) where i had purchased it used about 8 mos prior. i had the coverage of an extended warranty to 48k miles. they said they inspected the brakes and drove it and could find nothing wrong. interestingly enough, the vibration is completely gone now and it's been about 3 weeks?? i am convinced they did something to repair the problem but did now want to tell me what they found. especially if in the future the calipers, master cylinder, or something else major on the brakes was going to fail.
Problem with master cylinder power booster pump, vehicle fails to stop while moving at short distance and low speed 15 miles or less highwy and city. vehicle stops while moving at long distance and high speed 15 miles or more highway and city. brake pedals vibrate and go to bottom at low speeds 15 miles or less highway and city.
The 2013 ford f-150 will intermittently ride with the brakes engaged. when letting off the gas pedal it will quickly come to a stop (both on the highway and urban roads). brake pads have been replaced twice (@ 55,000 miles) and i have noticed a considerable drop in the calculated miles per gallon since observing the issue. i took it to the dealer and they said that it was working properly. they did not hook it up to electronically to perform an advance diagnosis. they instructed me to bring it back when it acts up again. the problem is that it happens intermittently. the only way i could get the vehicle to "disengage the brakes" while driving is to come to complete stop, engage 4wd, drive a few hundred feet, then place the truck back into 2wd. this would normally reset the braking. appears to happen in colder temperatures. additionally, the brake pedal occasionally (every six months) will have a grinding pulsating vibration lasting several minutes. the brakes did not go out but it feels as if metal on metal is grinding which creates an unusual and alarming circumstance.
Total brake system failure as i was driving on residential streets. without warning, within one block vehicle went from having fully functional brakes to total brake loss. previous to failure, vehicle exhibited no handling issues, sounds, or symptoms to indicate that there was a problem. the vehicle was traveling approximately 25 mph when i touched the brakes. without warning a loud, high pitched sound started coming from the front drivers side of the vehicle. the sound lasted about 5 seconds. when the sound ended, the brakes did not function and when i pressed the brake pedal it went straight to the floor without resistance. all regularly scheduled and recommended maintenance had been preformed. as a result of brake failure, vehicle sustained damage to passenger side. the vehicle was towed to the dealership. avis ford dealership preformed the repairs. i asked the dealership if they were aware of any similar issues having been reported and they said that they were unaware of such similar reports.
I purchased my truck on january 6th, 2016. i noticed the soft pedal on my test drive, and the dealer said they would be happy to fix the issue at no charge to me, so i made an appointment to have the brakes serviced. they replaced the front pads, and cut the rotors, replaced the rear pads and rotors. my brakes were worse. i explained that the brake pedal travels to the floor. even if you "pump" the brakes, the pedal will still continue to go to the floor. under normal, gradual braking, the is excessive travel before the brakes start to grab. under a "panic stop", the pedal will go right down with poor response. after 3 more trips, they have replaced the master cylinder, abs module, all four pads, rear rotors, and bled the system. no improvement has been achieved, and they have since said they cannot do anything more for me.
Low brake fluid warning light came on and brake pedal went to floor. no visible leaks. i stopped the vehicle and added fluid, next morning reservoir was empty again, no fluid on the ground under vehicle. i took the truck to the ford dealer for warranty repair. the mileage was 24088. dealer stated "booster was full of brake fluid" and replaced booster pump and master cylinder. i have noted other online complaints for the same failure on this same model and year of truck. i feel an investigation should be opened due to the severity of the nature of this type of failure.
We have taken this vehicle in three times for squeeling brakes and it still makes a high pitched noise when i stop.
Brake cylinder failure; took two weeks for repair at ford dealer.
Pulsating brake pedal, shimmy in the steering wheel at 27,000 miles. replaced all 4 rotors and new brake pads. 39,000 miles now, brake pads need to be replaced.
Vehicle had been parked for less than one hour. returned and started vehicle. depressed brake pedal to shift and pedal went to the floor and the low fluid light illuminated. no braking action. stopped vehicle and checked brake fluid level. reservoir had less than one quarter inch of fluid. checked under and around vehicle and found no evidence of fluid leak. added 24 oz. of fluid to reservoir. brakes still very mushy with very little braking action. drove 11 miles very slowly and parked vehicle in driveway. resevoir again almost empty with no visible leaks. vehicle towed to dealership. dealership said they had not heard of this problem before. appears the master cylinder and booster are both bad. truck had just rolled over 13,000 mi. when problem occurred. i have read at least 15 similar reports on this problem going back as far as 2011 f-150 vehicles. this is a potentially deadly problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied, it did not respond and was difficult to depress. the vehicle was taken to the dealer more than once and they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: pe16003 (service brakes , service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
On october19 2015 in yuma, az., i was dropping daughter off at school at approximately 720 a.m. on my way work when my "check brake fluid" warning light illuminated, everything seemed normal but as i was driving i started to notice that the brake pedal started to feel mushy and as i continued driving at 55 miles per hour i was coming up to a major intersection and as i tried to decelerate by pressing the brake pedal the pedal went straight to the floorboard and i was not slowing down, but 5 minutes prior my brakes worked fine. i had to sharply veer of to the right to avoid slamming into another vehicle that was slowing down, driving over the curb and having to manually downshift and utilizing the emergency brake to avoid crashing into a parked bus. as i have been reading this seems to be a recurring issue with this vehicle and a very dangerous issue that needs to be addressed, i am thankful that i did not have my daughter in the vehicle at that time and am very lucky that nobody was hurt or god forbid worse. the f-150 was towed to the dealership and amazingly the service rep told me what was wrong before even looking at the truck which tells me that they are aware of the problem. just like everybody else here that this has happened too, when i check my brake fluid, go figure it was empty even though it was serviced about a month ago. the truck has 32,000 miles on it. ford needs to do something about this. very, very dangerous
Rapid loss of brake fluid while driving resulting in brake failure. warning light came on. adding new fluid resulted in immediate loss of flid.
travelling at 60 mph on interstate 5 south bound at 0445 hrs i observed brake lights approximately 1/4 mile ahead. as i applied brakes the pedal was spongy and brake fluid warning light came on. while in heavy traffic the brakes failed. i was able to exit freeway by down shifting and using emergency brake.i got to a local retailer and purchased 1 12 oz bottles of brake fluid and put it in the empty reservoir. after pumping the brakes i checked the fluid level and it was empty again. i purchased 2 more 12 oz bottles and added them to the reservoir. pumped the brakes and everything seemed fine. decided to go home (slowly) instead of work. after about 15 miles the brake fluid warning light comes back on. pulled over and bought two more 12 oz bottles to put into my now empty reservoir. drove 7 miles to my home and the low warning comes back on. opened the hood to check brake fluid level and once again it is empty. looked through engine compartment and the underside of my truck and there are no visible fluid leaks. this is a huge problem to life and limb. i see i'm not the only person with this issue yet nothing as far as i can tell is being done about it. does someone have to be injured or killed? 60 oz of brake fluid just to drive 22 miles safely is not reasonable by any stretch of the imagination. fortunately my wife or one of my children weren't using my truck when this happened or the outcome could have been very different. waiting to hear back from my local dealer.
Brake master cylinder failed resulting in total loss of braking. the vehicle has a 5.0l v8 engine. i was approaching a left turn and applied pressure to my brake pedal and lost braking at that point. very low mileage on the vehicle when it failed, 14,813.
Brake rotors are warping quickly; twice with only 25,000 miles. dealer has turned rotors twice, but not willing to replace rotors.
Low brake fluid warning came on while driving. pulled into gas station, saw brake fluid reservoir was near empty. there was no signs of a leak. bought and refilled brake fluid and drove to dealership-1 mile away- brake fluid reservoir was 1/2 full. service representative, knew right off hand what the issue was, brake master cylinder failure bleeding into the reservoir. luckily i was able to get to aservice c enter. took days to get parts. seems like a known issue with ford and they're avoiding a recall...
Had total brake failure while driving (50mph)on the roadway. used the emergency brake (left foot on the pedal, left hand on the handle) to manipulate the vehicle brakes to get home (at 25-30mph) without incident.
on 8/26/15 drove truck to town had no problems. parked truck at house, short time later went to leave and low break fluid light was on, check under the hood and it was under the min mark found no leaks. i went to the store purchased a bottle of break fluid. on 9/6/15 same thing happened again, light came on checked around reservoir and under truck and cannot find a leak. went to store purchased another bottle. found numerous complaints online here and other sites about no breaks with no fluid in reservoir and no leaks found. i have contacted ford directly about inspecting and repairing under warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 40 mph, the contact stated that the low brake fluid light illuminated on the instrument panel. while attempting to engage the brakes, the brake pedal sank to the floor. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000.
While backing out of a parking spot, i applied the service brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. the truck continued in reverse, striking a concrete wall. i secured the vehicle and inspected the damage. under the hood, i looked at the brake fluid reservoir. there was a very small amount of fluid in the bottom of the reservoir. i looked back at the dashboard to see if the brake light was illuminated, it was not. i had the truck towed to the dealership where i purchased (new) it two years prior, gosch ford in hemet, ca. the service technician said the brake master cylinder and brake booster were bad and that the fluid had leaked back into the booster. since the truck was out of warranty, the estimate for repair would be $800. the truck has 36,443 miles (443 miles over the basic warranty for brakes). as a small business owner, the truck is used to tow my equipment trailer necessary for work. without the truck, i dont work and my business suffers. the dealership refused to submit this to ford for warranty work stating ford is very firm on this issue; even one mile over 36,000 would be refused. i approved the repairs since i need this vehicle for my livelihood. an hour later, the service department called saying there is a nationwide backorder on the master cylinder and brake booster (go figure), and the parts wouldnt be available for 5 weeks! so, my truck (the truck i purchased new to ensure dependability, safety and reliability) sits at the dealership waiting for the replacement parts for an apparent common brake failure problem. since they are replacing the defective parts with new (hopefully not defective) parts, i will cringe each time i step on the brake pedal. an internet check of this problem revealed others with the exact same situation. why is there no recall? this is a huge brake failure issue.
I lost all pressure in the brake system. the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.. when i checked the brake reservoir, it was empty. i was unable to find any signs of leaking brake fluid. i refilled the reservoir and was able to restore pressure by pumping the brakes. a few minutes before total brake failure, i was in motion in an urban area, towing a boat equipped with surge brakes. i was travelling down a steep hill could feel the brake pedal travelling closer to the floor. i've had no problems since but routinely check the brake reservoir to ensure there is sufficient brake fluid i didn't report it until now, when i heard that other f150 owners had experienced the same problem.
While driving on freeway a "low brake fluid" warning light came on the dash. i tested brakes and they felt ok at that point. after driving several more miles the brake pedal took more pressure to slow down the vehicle and by the time i stopped the brake pedal went to the floor. i checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was empty. i found no brake fluid leaking under the vehicle. i filled the reservoir with new brake fluid and after driving 5 miles the brake warning light came on again. i stopped and checked the reservoir and it was empty again. after filling the reservoir again i took the vehicle into a ford dealer. they told me the master cylinder had failed and leaked the brake fluid into the brake booster unit and caused it to fail as well. the service adviser said they had 3 other f-150 trucks come in with this same issue. the fix is to replace the master cylinder and the brake booster unit with new parts. he claims the new parts have been re-engineered to fix the issue. i checked the internet for this problem and found many others have had the same issue with at least 2011, 2012, 2013 ford f-150 trucks, some never received the "low brake fluid" light before the brakes failed. this is an extremely dangerous safety issue as the brakes become unusable when this occurs. i tow a large trailer on some steep grades and this could be a disastrous issue as you can imagine. i believe this should definitely trigger an immediate recall to fix this very dangerous issue.
On july 6,2015 i came out of the gym entered my truck ,turned it on the brake light came on and the peddle went all the way to the floor, luckily i was parked and not driving when it happened or the outcome could have been different. i called my dealer they sent a tow truck, out to pick up my vehicle. brake fluid was low it had leaked internally from the master cylinder into the vacuum line then into brake booster. they had to replace the brake booster and the master cylinder. i just wanted to let you know that it is happening.my truck is an eco boost v6 and it is now march and i am taking my truck back in as son as i can get an appointment because of the front brakes grinding and squeezing, making noise when i come t a stop. my vehicle only has 27,000 plus miles. the brake failing happened at 22,000 plus miles. i have the invoice and work order in my possession when and if it is needed . i 'm as i stated earlier was lucky i wasn't moving .my only displeasure was that i had to rent a car for 2 days or stay home ,so even though they didn't charge me i still paid over 200.00 for a rental car.
I was sitting at a red light with my foot on the brake, when my truck suddenly started rolling forward. i pumped the brake multiple times and the pedal went all the way to the ground with no braking effect. i made contact with the car in front of me.
My family and i were preparing to pull out of a croded parking lot as we were leaving a baseball tournament.my husband attempted to put the truck into drive and as he shifted, the truck lunged backward as he had no brakes to stop the vehicle. he had to throw it into p to stop.a mother and her son were walking near the vehicle at this time, my husband was quite unnerved.he turned the vehicle off and went to a local store for brake fluid in order to drive home.he took the truck to the nearest dealer where they had discovered that the master cylinder and entire brake system failed.there was no warning to this issue.our truck only has 44,000miles and is 2 years old.this is our family vehicle used to transport our children, not to haul or tow things.i researched this issue online and contacted ford after realizing that our truck was not the only truck with this issue. i spoke with regional manager randy copeland regarding the issue and expressed my concerns that this is a huge safety issue.an entire brake system should never fail unless it was faulty, especially on a newer vehicle.i explained to him that this is a serious issue and could result in loss of lives if it is not addressed.i was told to worry about my own vehicle.i was told that i need to keep conversation professional, i was upset at the fact that he dismissed the seriousness of no brakes.my concerns fell on deaf ears.i want ford to realize the seriousness of this safety issue.mr. copeland also could not answer my question- what would ford have done if my husband would have backed over this mother and her son.i want ford to recognize this problem and take action before someone is seriously injured or lives are lost.
Backed up to boat trailer. attached trailer to f-150 platinum. brake pedal went to the floor. checked brake fluid level and there was no fluid. added (3) 6 oz. bottles. no external leaks found anywhere. bled brake lines to get vehicle home. dealer found that the master cylinder seal blew and all the brake fluid went into the booster. booster on back order for 5 days. i am having to pay to have booster replaced, seal, and abs system flush. this was very dangerous for me as i was towing my 17ft boat up a mountain @ 7% grade for 17 miles. i have read the recorded complaints for this same issue and it appears to have happened to many people over the last 2 years. ford please fix this.
Owner driving pov entering interstate via onramp at approx. 60mph when check brake light appeared. owner continued into traffic and reached speed of approx. 70mph when traffic slowed. owner pushed brake pedal completely to floor with no slowing occurring. owner pumped brakes numerous times, downshifted and utilized emergency brake to avoid collision going onto shoulder of interstate. brake fluid reservoir was empty, no evidence of a leak found on undercarriage. owner put more brake fluid in and was able to get pov home via slow speed, downshifting and emergency brake. brake reservoir once again empty. after research online regarding master cylinder failure, owner replaced master cylinder and brakes are working without issue.. this incident could have obviously ended with someone seriously injured or even killed. pov was no longer under warranty with approx. 48,000 miles so all repairs were at owners expense.
Whenever at a stop in traffic, the brake pedal drifted to the floor causing loss of breaks resulting in striking the car in front of me. the trucks been at ford to replace multiple pieces of the brake system with absolutely no better result. the master cylinder resovior was found empty twice prior to this problem surfacing.
Total brake failure. started vehicle and went to back up and brake peddle went to the floor, low brake fluid light light came on as soon as the peddle hit the floor. vehicle was slowly moving backwards and would not stop. tried pumping the peddle to stop the truck. used parking brake to stop vehicle to avoid backing into other cars behind. checked brake fluid level and found it was almost out, less than a 1/4 inch in the reservoir. checked entire vehicle and no leaks could be found called crossroads ford in cary, nc and they indicated i should fill it with dot3 fluid and bring it in. filled reservoir to max line and pumped braked a few times until they were firm. drove to the dealership, about 25 miles. no issues getting to the dealership other than the brakes were quite spongy and not too responsive. upon inspection at the dealership, they removed the master cylinder and found the fluid had filled the brake booster and the master cylinder had failed.. this seems to be a very serious problem, i'm very lucky i wasn't killed or killed someone in an accident. vehicle was just a little over 500 out of warranty.
Started vehicle at my work location, brake light came on, checked brake fluid resevior found it low. filled with brake fuid, drove to dealer with less that 100% braking power. dealer replaced brake master cylinder and booster. dealer work ticket attached.
Brake rotors warping prior to 18,000 miles; engine cooler fan runs in high speed during summer months, all the time.
Complete loss of brakes. had truck towed to ford dealership. they diagnosed defective master cylinder and brake booster. was told by dealership that the parts are on nation wide back order. this indicates there is a serious problem and this is not an isolated incident. i am being required to pay because vehicle is no longer under warranty. brakes should never completely fail. this could have had catastrophic results. if ford does not recognize this issue and take responsibility soon and fix it, someone will be killed.
On 5/1/15, while backing out of my driveway, as i attempted to brake, the brake pedal went completely to the floor, and there was no stopping power. while attempting to pump the brake and use the parking brake, my vehicle crossed the street, went up the curb, and struck my neighbor's landscape wall, damaging it severely. total distance travelled was approximately 2.5 truck lengths before impacting the neighbor's wall. upon inspection by myself and later my insurance investigator, the brake fluid reservoir was empty, but there were no obvious signs of leakage. no puddles or visible brake fluid. truck was towed to local dealer who diagnosed the problem as 'brake failure due to leak faulty brake master cylinder'. within a few days, the brakes again did not feel right with a strange pedal feel. gradually, the worsening pedal feel was accompanied by a metallic scraping or grinding noise. a second trip to a dealer revealed a failed brake booster due to brake fluid ingestion, which also explained why there was no visible evidence of a leak after the crash. the brake booster operates at a vacuum, so as the master cylinder leaked catastrophically, the booster sucked in the fluid, causing it to ultimately fail as well. both the brake master cylinder and the brake booster were replaced under warranty. i am surprised that there as been no action on this issue yet - the complete failure of the most important safety system of a 2.5+ ton vehicle - as there are numerous nearly identical failure modes with this model and year. i truly hope nobody is killed by this; it was truly terrifying to be without brakes while moving in reverse in a massive vehicle.
Brake pads are severely deteriorating early in their lifespan. front brake pads and rotors had to be replaced at 25,841 miles. dealer said it was a caliber hanging up. happened again at 39,425 miles. rotor was gouged again on opposite side . dealer stated caliper and rotors were not defective. possible defective brake pads. same failure on my wifes 2013 ford fusion se.
I am the owner of a 2013 ford f150 crew cab. may i say that the brakes on this vehicle are at best sketchy, at worse dangerous. i have experienced rough stops on numerous occasions and had to have them attending to by technicians more than once. the rotors have been turned, but the stuttering stops persist. they tell me that nothing can be done until i change them and that doesn't sit well with me. why should i have to pay to get what i feel are defective brakes fixed?
