We have classified the 417 complaints from 2012 Ford F-150 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Traveling with my wife from little rock to houston on a rainy / humid day with the temperature at about 80-85 degrees, i accelerated quickly to pass on a 4-lane highway. the truck began shuddering violently and we experienced a loss of power. after slowing down and pulling off and restarting the truck it seemed to run fine. this happened two more times during the trip. the second time the check engine light began to flash, but ended up going off. the third time the light flashed and stayed on. after getting back to houston i took the truck in and they "reprogrammed the cac" and installed a new "air dam deflector plate." i just got the vehicle back so i do not yet know if this fixed the problem permanently, however, i have searched numerous blogs and websites and discovered that hundreds of other owners have had the exact same experience with their 3.5l ecoboost engines. i also understand that ford has not offered any kind of recall for this problem. the characteristics of the power loss (and exactly at a critical time when power is needed) were frightening and extremely dangerous. had i been passing on a two-lane road instead of a 4-lane highway, we could have been killed. there is the potential for a head-on collision, a second car rear-ending my vehicle, or a loss of control due to the shuddering and instability at high speeds. i did contact ford regarding this and was basically told there is no recall and they just recommended that i have the repairs done. it is completely ridiculous that they know about this issue and don't 1) recall the vehicles that may experience this problem and, 2) let the general public know about the issue - for those purchasing a new vehicle. it is deceptive and irresponsible. *tr
Ford f150, 3.5l ecoboost engine- while driving in rain, vehicle hesitated and misfired, with an associated check engine light on some occasions and not on others. seemed to happen after cruising and attempting to pass another vehicle. was unable to accelerate and continued to slow to 50mph. had to ease on the throttle to slowly accelerated after the condition cleared. vehicle in the shop 4 times for updates, 3 for changes to the intercooler and the last was for a change of the catalytic converter. *tr
While driving on the interstate at about 60 mph. i pressed the accelerator to about 80% of travel. the transmission downshifted and the engine immediately had an almost total loss of power. i totally released the accelerator and then apply about 10% and the engine resumed normal operation. the engine continued on as normal - given traffic conditions i did not attempt a second hard accelerator application. it was raining and had been raining about an hour when this occurred. i call ford and was given a tsb repair code. it is ford tsb 13-8-1 - an earlier version of the this tsb was 12-10-19 and 12-6-4. this is a serious issue with this engine and could have caused a serious accident. the next day i did accelerate in the same fashion and the engine responded properly - it was not raining when i did this. *tr
Truck started to shake and lose acceleration while merging onto interstate traffic. speed of approximately 60mph. same issue occurred about 3 hours later while accelerating at highway speed, causing the vehicle behind me to make an aggressive move as not to rear end my truck. approximately 65mph. *tr
Ford f150 2012 ecoboost ext cab 4x4 xlt after driving for several hours and stopping at a rest area i began to reenter the interstate. as i accelerated on the onramp traffic was moderate so i pressed on the accelerator even harder. the truck was in 5th gear and downshifted to 4th. the truck began to shutter and loose power. at this point i panicked and pushed the accelerator even harder. the truck downshifted into 3rd gear at which point it lost all power. all that i could do was let out at this point and hope to regain power. fortunately traffic had moved over by the time i had made it to the end of the onramp at which point the truck had a clear and definitive miss and very little power. the truck slowly accelerated up to 60 mph and continued to miss for another quarter mile. after arriving at my parents home 5 hours later without another incident of full loss of power i dropped my wife off to get her car. as i pulled out the driveway only minutes later i punched the accelerator to see if the truck would do it again. the truck fell on its face. i could have got out and ran faster. once again is missed for a quarter mile and cleared up. today, i had to make a quick trip into town to pick up something for my wife. again i punched the accelerator and the truck fell on its face and had no power. this time the check engine light came on and has stayed on ever since. thankfully i have not been involved in an accident as of yet. these trucks need to be recalled before someone is killed!!! *tr
Accelerator would not respond while entering an intersection. the vehicle went into "limp home mode" and the display indicated the vehicle should be repaired immediately. *tr
Dealer installed ecu update without my knowledge or authorization which changed how the vehicle accelerates, decelerates, shift points and engine stumbles continuously. dealer does not have the ability to undo the update. opened a case with ford motor company, they basically blame the dealer for not informing the customer (myself) prior to installing the update and informed me they currently do not have a program to undo an update or install a previous update to return the vehicle back to factory specifications. *tr
When accelerating and decelerating then accelerating the turbo drops out a severe loss of power occurred.
While accelerating to merge into traffic on the highway my truck lost acceleration at 60 mph. i let off the throttle and eased into it. the whole truck started shuttering and transmission was shifting extremely hard. it was all i could do to maintain speed. at the first stop light i shut the truck off in an attempt to reset the ecu. once i took off it didn't happen again. it's just scary knowing that i could have caused an accident while trying to merge into traffic. this is not safe at all. *tr
While driving on interstate i attempted to pass a slower vehicle. after moving over and accelerating - the truck buckled and stalled! i was almost rear ended by an 18 wheeler at 65 mph! this was very close to being a serious accident involving multiple vehicles. please investigate and resolve this issue as ford doesn't seem to be concerned about it. this vehicle has a 3.5l ecoboost engine with an automatic transmission and it also shudders at various speeds with a hard clunking sound during gear changes. thank you. *tr
When i go to accelerate it periodically has had an issue of selecting the gear. sometimes it has held onto 1st gear without changing to second, most recently it has been skipping from 1st gear to 5th gear. i've recorded a video (link at the bottom) to better demonstrate. i drive the truck in a humid environment (oahu) + wash my car regularly (nothing in the engine, other then spraying the grill) - as i've heard of similar related issues. i've uploaded a video of it to youtube which was recorded yesterday after trying to accelerate at a stop light (i had tried to troubleshoot it 3 different ways after pulling over - 1. going into the low gears (1, then 2), then drive 2. i tried manually telling the vehicle which gear i wanted to be in (it blinked to indicate i'm locked out) 3. (as seen in the video) i went to park, then to drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y50_cj82d20. *tr
I was merging on the on ramp to obtain highway speed i stepped on the gas when all of the sudden the truck started to shake really bad. i tried to step on the gas to accelerate but there was no throttle response to the engine as the truck continued to lose speed. every time i tried to step on the gas the truck would shake even worse. i pulled over to the side of the road so i would not cause an accident. this is not the first time i have experience this shudder in the truck. *tr
Attempting to pass a vehicle on the highway, motor lost all power and began shaking. code came up as engine misfire. brought to the dealership said known issue, they inspected did not find anything wrong. since that date has occurred 4-5 more times during wet weather anytime accelerating (passing vehicles, on ramps).
While driving in the rain i attempted to merge onto i-74 near indianapolis, in. the ecoboost engine lost power and the "check engine" light came on. the truck shook and vibrated like the engine was only running on a couple of cylinders and had virtually no power. we were nearly rear-ended by a semi that we were trying to merge with. i drove very slowly on the shoulder for an extended time as there was no place to get off the highway. finally it seemed to regain power and we headed on home to illinois. the check engine light stayed on. *tr
While driving at approx. 70mph i attempted to accelerate hard to allow another vehicle to merge into traffic on southbound i-75. my vehicle immediately slowed down and began to shudder. i let off the accelerator and coasted until the shudder stopped. the steering wheel shook as if i had two flat front tires. the vehicle returned to normal after about 30 seconds and i completed my trip without further problems. *tr
Traveling at 60 + / - mph and attempted to pass another vehicle under normal conditions. engine lost power on acceleration and seemed to sputter. this is strange as the gas was not "punched" or anything outside of normal passing acceleration. initially i thought i may be out of gas or something but this was not the case. i have noted power loss two other times but did not think anything of it as the engine returned to normal once i backed off the gas. the one difference this time is the engine made a very rough vibration which caused others in the truck to ask if i was having engine trouble. *tr
Straightening our vehicle in parking place at home depot. slowly (~2mph) going forward with foot on brake when engine suddenly speed up. mashed down hard on brake while shifting into neutral. tires or clutch screaming so loud it drew a group of yardmen unloading a truck nearby. shortly after getting it shifted into neutral engine resumed normal operation. took to ford dealer immediately and will be evaluated after the holiday. several times in the week prior to incident i noticed some slight "stuttering" of the vehicle when slowly moving forward to park in driveway, also noticed for the past 1 to 1.5 months there has been a 2+ mile per gallon decrease in fuel mileage running over the same routes. *tr
While driving at 65 mph on ny state thruway, with cruise control on, towing a trailer with one motorcycle, vehicle was in tow/haul mode. it was moderate rain. the truck shuddered, lost power momentarily, flashed several error messages on the information display, and resumed driving but now the vehicle would not accelerate over 60mph. upon pulling off the road into a service area, i shut off the vehicle and restarted it. errors were cleared. resumed travel on the interstate. went about 2-3 miles and it did it again. limped 30 miles to next service area. shut it off. restarted. my aftermarket gauge cluster and code reader was showing errors p012b, p012d, p0106. drove the remaining 200 miles at 55mph. problem did not repeat. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the transmission down shifted independently and there was an increase in engine rpms. the vehicle also shook violently as the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 6,000. *tr
I was driving on a 2 lane highway, behind a semi truck, with several cars behind me. we came to a passing zone and i began to pass the semi truck. i moved to the oncoming lane and accelerated, but the truck lost power. i began slowing down in the on coming lane, but couldn't return to the right lane because the vehicles that were behind me were passing me in the right lane and i had a vehicle directly behind me that was followed me to pass the semi truck. i locked out 5th and 6th gears on the transmission to gain some rpm but the vehicle started to shudder violently. i moved to the shoulder of the on coming lane and shut the vehicle off. i sat on the shoulder for several minutes, got out of the vehicle and checked under it for fluids. there were no fluids under the vehicle. all the gauges read normal. i did all this on the shoulder of the oncoming lane facing oncoming traffic. this was not a good position to be in. i started the vehicle, put it in gear to see if it would move, it did. i had full power and got back into traffic and the truck ran fine. no warning lights, no indication that anything was wrong. several miles later i lost engine power again, and again got the violent shudder, and the check engine light came on. going to see the dealer today. this is bad! the first incident could have caused a huge accident. moving onto that left shoulder proved to be a good move, but i was at pucker factor 10 for a few seconds. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle attempted to accelerate but the rpms increased and the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was coasted onto the emergency lane; however, he was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,700. the vin was unavailable.
Lost power with easy accelerating from stop light at low speed. engine running with transmission in drive gear, but will not move while pressing accelerator. stopped, shifted to park then back to drive and was able to move but smelled burning oil. *tr
On 2 separate occasions, approximately 3 months apart while in hard acceleration attempting to merge on an interstate on-ramp, vehicle began to shudder violently and lose power. in first instance, i was able to merge in the left lane and let off the accelerator. as vehicle coasted, the shudder subsided and within 1 minute stopped all together. in the second instance, when the vehicle lost power, traffic conditions would not allow me to merge and i was forced to coast along the shoulder of the road until the shudder subsided and power was resumed. in neither situation, did the vehicle go into safe mode or the check engine light appear. vehicle simply resumed normal operation. *tr
Having issues with the ecoboost accelerating upon take off or getting on to road ways numerous times i have come close to getting hit because of no power upon accelerating now this has been going since purchase new with only 116 miles and purchase date 3-17-2013. the dealer says this is normal operating condition for the vehicle to have lag time before power.my feeling is if you are sitting at a light and you give the vehicle gas the vehicle will move slow and then do a sudden acceleration and could cause death or injury to someone unsafe truck. now i'm having issues with the driver window not going down or when it is down will not go up they say this is normal operating procedure ford has some issue and they need to be corrected before someone gets killed or hurt bad. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the air cooler and several other unknown components were replaced but the failure recurred multiple times. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 11,577.
Truck stumbles and stutters at 62 mph and around 1400 rpm when attempting to accelerate. ford dealership replaced cac and upgraded software, this helped the problem but did not fix the problem. i reported back to the dealer about the continued problem and there response was that i was feeling turbo lag and ford corp does not currently have a fix, check back in a few months. *tr
While merging from i-26 to i-20 while pulling a lightly loaded cargo trailer i was accelerating down the entrance ramp, had just begun to merge and suddenly with no warning my f-150 truck with an ecoboost engine began to hesitate.... actually is was much worse than a hesitation it seemed to lose all power and began to vibrate terribly (felt and sounded like driving on a corrugated/washboard road). i had a large 18 wheeler closing in very fast, i actually moved to the emergency lane to allow him to pass. very scary! the weather was rainy and humid, this incident could have ended badly. i had one passenger at the time that witnessed this event. *tr
V6 ecoboost my family and i were traveling in heavy rain on i65 in birmingham, al. i pulled into the far left lane to pass slower vehicles. when i accelerated the truck began to shake violently and rapidly lose speed and power. several vehicles including a semi had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. the second time was on my return trip home. we were traveling on a two lane road in foggy conditions. we came to an area when the road split so you could pass slower vehicles. i, along with a car following, went to pass a slower vehicle which had moved to the right. when i was alongside the slower vehicle my truck began to shake and lose speed. i had to take evasive braking action to fall in behind the vehicle to my right because they were running out of room. the vehicle following me also had to take evasive action to avoid hitting me. and the car to my right. i took the truck to the dealer when i returned home. they replaced the cac, installed a plastic shield, reprogrammed the computer, and replaced a defective cat as was the recommended repair according to the issued tsb. on april 18th i was traveling on hwy41 in the rain.twice on my trip the vehicle began to shake and lose speed when passing slower vehicles. the applied tsb did not fix the problem. i returned the vehicle to the dealership at the request of ford customer care. they were unable to find an issue. the day the vehicle was returned the second cat went out and had to be replaced. ford has acknowledged the issue but has informed me that there is nothing they can do at this time. they offered to send me a buy back offer within ten days and after twenty days and several phone calls today they informed me that they are unable to buy back my truck. they also told me that i would have to live with the issue until they (if) come up with a fix. i am unwilling to put my family at risk. *tr
Vehicle was purchased on 3/16/13 as a demo model with 6300 miles on it. made a left turn and accelerated to merge into traffic on 3/19/13 when the whole vehicle shuddered violently and the engine lost power resulting in people having to hit their brakes and honk at us to avoid hitting us. the engine continued to bog down as the accelerator was pushed. i let the vehicle coast to almost a stop before the symptoms went away and could drive as normal. i looked up symptoms on internet and found many people experiencing same symptoms with this new eco-boost engine by ford in their trucks. it seems that the intercooler can collect condensation in humid or rainy environments and have that water forced to the engine when the accelerator is pushed hard causing the vehicle to shudder and lose power. ford has apparently identified this problem and issued a tbs service bulletin instructing the charged air cooler be replaced with a newly designed one for model year 2011-2012 f-150's with the 3.5l v6 eco-boost engine if a customer complains of the above symptoms and some people have reported this solution has not fixed the problem. this is extremely dangerous as one could lose power as many have reported, towing heavy loads, on the highway passing and other situations that a loss of power could lead to a fatal accident. the "newly designed" charged air cooler has been on back order for months and people are being told to "drive their vehicles carefully" if their dealer doesn't provide a rental or vehicle to drive while awaiting repair. my vehicle was taken back to dealership on 3/21/13 and has been sitting their awaiting the part as i feel it is unsafe to drive. *tr
Having recurring issues with ford ecoboost engine on my 2012 f-150. below is a summary of visits to the dealership for service related issues: 3/13/13- engine light on, shuttering, shaking, and won't go over 70 on highway. dealership found no issues. 3/29/13- engine light on, shuttering, shaking, and won't go over 70 on highway. dealership identified issue as bad cac intercooler and replaced per tsb 130303c. 7/9/13- engine light and misfire. also, transmission slamming forward as if being rear-ended. dealership coil #2 and spark plug. not able to verify the transmission slamming?? issue. 10/30/13-filed a complaint with ford customer service. still experiencing intermittent cac intercooler symptoms and transmission slamming. 1/3/14- another dealership found that the new cac intercooler had been improperly installed without deflector shield. also repaired transmission issue. 1/18/13- engine light on. replaced catalytic converter bank. 1/27/14- contacted ford customer service with new information. ford forwarded this information to the regional dealership manager. 2/2/14- still having cac intercooler issues during snow storm. 2/4/14- ford customer service closed claim. never contacted by any dealership representative regarding my concerns. i feel that i am getting the run around from ford on this particular matter. i do not think they are taking the issues with these f150 trucks seriously enough. no permanent fix for the problem has been found, at least not with my truck. i am also concerned that you can take your vehicle to one dealership where they cannot identify a transmission issue, but another one can. furthermore, it concerns me that this intercooler problem can create a safety issue on the roadway, yet, the dealership makes a repair without installing all of the necessary components. *tr
This write up is for a 2012 ford f-150 truck with the 3.5l ecoboost v-6 installed. jan, 2013-while driving on i-24e, i was pulling out from the rest stop, just north west of exit 1. i went to pass a 18 wheeler and my truck came "unglued". it practically died in the passing lane when i pressed the gas peddle. it shuddered so hard; i didn't think i would be able to get off of the road before it died. it was missing and shuddering like crazy. i pulled off exit 1, shut the truck down and restarted. it ran ok without that same thing happening on the way home. i had a pretty descent "miss" in 6th gear, running down the interstate at 75mph. something very strange happened here. it was the first issue i've had with my truck. although i've noticed recently the mpg is down by 2.0 mpg or more for the last three weeks, and this from refueling at different locations, and the same driving style. ford applied the tsb to reprogram the pcm/tcm to latest level, installed a deflector shield on the intercooler and possibly replace the drivers side catalytic converter if needed. july, 2013- this weekend while driving on i-65n, i had the same issue happen. the truck now has 17,000 miles on it. i've had the vehicle back into my local ford dealer four times for this issue. the vehicle exhibits this issue when it's rainy and has been driven in the rain for several (50 or more) miles. in heavy traffic this is a very dangerous issue. the vehicle goes into some type of safe mode and will barely limp off the road. if this issue were to occur while crossing a four lane hwy, and sputtered one could be seriously injured or injure someone else. *tr
Vehicle would not accelerate from 40 mph while attempting to merge with highway traffic. when the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle shuttered and would accelerate past 40 mph while trying to merge with heavy traffic going 65 mph. continued with a very slow acceleration which took about a mile to reach 60 mph. then the vehicle started to perform normally. *tr
2012 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to transmission malfunction. *smd the consumer stated the gear moved from park to reverse twice, since he purchased the vehicle in september 2012. the most recent incident caused approximately $5800 damage to the vehicle, plus damage to landscaping property of a business. the consumer stated he placed the vehicle in park and left it running. when he went around the truck, he saw the truck starting to move in reverse. he ran around to the truck, opened the driver's door and tried to climb into the truck, to stop it, but was knocked down to his knees and caught between the door and the door jamb on the truck. he was dragged to his knees for several feet, before he decided to let go down and rolled away from the truck. the vehicle continued in reverse for approximately 75 feet before running up over a curb and down an embankment over two trees, some small bushes and destroying 30 ' of vinyl fence before coming to a rest. on october 1, 2012, the consumer backed the truck into his driveway, placed it in park and exited the vehicle, and left it running with the driver's door open, when suddenly, the vehicle started move backwards. he tried to get in the vehicle to stop it, but was knocked down by the door. the vehicle continued back for about 25 feet hitting a landscaping boulder before coming to a stop. the consumer has since traded the vehicle. *jb
The vehicle has been in the ford shop three times for a clicking or popping noise that came from the rear of the truck. i have complained about it since the vehicle reached 6,000 miles or 4 months old. the dealer has attempted numerous repair attempts (3 ea.)to fix the problem the vehicle has spent many days at the shop while the mechanic tried to fix the problem. the ford engineers or so i have been told where aware of the issue and instructed the dealership to try the ssm# 22384 to fix the issue. the dealership performed the ssm# on friday the 14th of dec and after driving the truck i noticed the same complaint of the clicking noise and there was no apparent change to or after bringing the truck in for repair. i notified the dealership and they said the truck was safe to drive and they would keep me notified on any other fixes as they come available through ford.after almost 200 miles after the attempted repair i was driving down the highway when i felt the truck shake then heard a large pow then bang, i quickly looked out the rear view mirror and saw smoke and sparks. i was able to recover and get the vehicle to the shoulder of the road where i noticed the driveshaft on the ground the only thing attached was the front of the drive shaft. the pinion bearing flange (rear) was attached to the driveshaft and the pinion shaft was sheared off the rearend. i feel this problem could have caused a serious injury to me or others if i was in a different scenario and not so lucky to not be carry my children and towing my boat. this is a unsafe condition and should be dealt with to ensure others don't have my incident that could create a accident. i have the service record copies and my truck is still at the dealership waiting on parts. *tr
My 2012 ford f150 with eco-boost engine stalls and shakes upon fast acceleration. this happens mostly on rainy damp days but has happened during night driving also. once this happens the trucks looses all power and i have had to pull off the highway, turn the engine off and restart. have brought the truck to the dealer on three occasions with no results of correction. i know this is a common problem with this engine and need help to get ford to correct problem or allow trade for trade on a new truck without the eco-boost engine. *tr
At passing speeds or during acceleration the vehicle will stall and check engine light will come on and start flashing. it only does this when accelerated and has almost caused accidents. after numerous occasions of this happening the light has continuously stayed on and now it won't go off.
Vehicle lost power while passing another vehicle. unable to complete passing maneuver. this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. *tr
Gm [xxx] at chino hills ford failed to allow his service dept. to repair, correct or replace defective driveline or driveshaft componets that clunk and rattle on a new ford raptor truck under factory warranty and an esp ford 100,000 extended warranty. these faulty componets could fail and cause loss of control or serious injury or death to myself or passengers and other vehicles on the highway should they fail and seperate from the drivetrain, driveshaft, u joint or yoke of the truck. this is a known and much complained about issue on these ford raptors and ford motors has ignored the drivetrain clunk issues. this should be a ford recall to determine what the drivetrain issues are with this $60,000. truck and correct them asap for safety reasons. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
2012 f150 ecoboost. was cruising on the highway at 60-65 closing in on a slower moving bus. pulled out to pass and gave it more throttle the vehicle did not accelerate even with throttle to the floor. had to hit the brakes and pull back behind the bus to avoid a collision. after recovering the motor seemed to recover and allowed for acceleration again. this was the second time this has happened to us. neither time did the computer register a fault code or check engine light. the first time we took it for the issue, ford service could not do anything as no code was found and unable to recreate in test drive. at that time tsb 12-6-4 was out pertaining to this issue. after the second time, again there was no code or recreation but a new tsb 12-10-19 superseded the previous tsb and allowed for repairs. this is a dangerous condition that ford is aware of and could possibly affect all 2011-2012 f150 ecoboost motors and some early 2013 models. the charge air cooler as originally designed is creating condensation that causes these power loss events. the corrective actions in tsb 12-10-19, if successful, should be applied to all f150 ecoboost vehicles built with the older intercooler design. *tr
I have experienced two separate occurrences where the truck would violently lose power during acceleration during rainstorms. the first time the check engine light flashed but went away. the dealer told me it was probably the traction control, since no check engine light was logged in the system. the second time was april 24th, 2013, and the truck had approximately 11,000 miles. i was traveling approximately 70mph and passing two 18 wheelers on the interstate during a heavy rainstorm and the truck began to misfire and stutter and had no power. i had to swerve between the semis and coast to a stop on the shoulder to narrowly avoid a potentially fatal crash due to the loss in power. the check engine light stayed on this time, so when i took it to the dealer i specifically asked about the turbo intercooler issues that the ecoboosts have been reported to have. after checking my truck out, they indicated that my problem was consistent with the interrcooler condensation issue, but that my truck was built with the newer updated intercooler and that there is currently no fix for the problem. now i am the disappointed owner of a new truck that i'm afraid to drive in the rain because my family might be killed or injured in it. the truck was purchased and always serviced at premier ford in columbus, ms. *tr
I put my truck into drive and it hesitates, jumps back and fourth being real sluggish. the only way out of this is to floor the gas and let it push through for about five to ten seconds and then it is done. which is hard to do when it is time to take my kids to school and i am in a school zone. this is very intermittent, but happens more often than not. if i let the car remain off for more than 15 minutes then the cycle can continue. sometimes it starts up and drives fine. i notice it is more and more prevalent as the miles climb up. it has been doing this since the beginning and is still doing this. since around 20000 miles the truck hesitates on the road after driving for sometime. so now it happens whenever it wants to. i have read online that this is a common occurrence that ford knows about, just doesn't admit to or try to fix. my best friend had to trade his truck in because of this problem. this has the potential to be a problem just like the acceleration of the toyotas. this problem happens sporadically but it is more often than not. now the transmission is jumping when slowing down or speeding up. i was told this is normal, it is just the computer getting used to my driving. i don't make a habit of making my truck hesitate at all. so this is a dumb response that once again, many people online get the same answer. i am nearing my 36000 mark. so i know this is about to cost me out of my own pocket to fix because the ford house will just say nothing is wrong and not fix it. so my question is are transmissions really this cheap and we just move on and accept that craftsmanship in america or do we make ford fix their issue. i have purchased many vehicles throughout my 39 years in this great country. i have never had a car act like this on such a wide scale with nothing being done about it. please hold them accountable. *jb
I purchased my new f-150 in august 2012 and immediately noticed a "hesitation" when starting out in drive, until the engine shifted to second gear and a "miss" in the engine when driving at highway speeds. i called the dealer, told them my truck has safety defect and took the truck back for an evaluation and oil change. the dealer told me they found no defects on the computer codes and no bulletins from ford but "we've had several complaints from other customers about this problem. we can't do anything unless the computer shows something wrong. i called ford "customer relationships center" in michigan and was told to take it to another dealer for a second evaluation. i did this and the new dealer gave me the same story as the first dealer. i called the "customer relationship center" again and advised them that what the dealerships have told me is unacceptable and that i would not have bought the truck, if i had known or been told that this "defect is common" with this truck. the "crc" told me they would have the regional service manager call me, which she did a few days later and told me that "the problems you are having with your truck are characteristic of the performance of these trucks and no other action will be taken. i told the regional service manager that her and fords' response is unacceptable and if there is no fix, i want the vehicle repurchased or replaced. she said, "no further action will be taken by ford." *tr
I have had this problem several times. it seemed to start in october 2012. i was trying to merge into traffic and pushed the gas pedal down quickly and it did not move forward any faster. i i was almost rear-ended by another vehicle because i could not get any speed. it seems that when i push down the pedal very slowly, it will go faster. but when i need the response to be very quickly, it does not respond. i have had this problem when i pull my camper. it will be performing then all of a sudden, i will need to push down the pedal to get power up a hill and again, there is no power. i have taken this to the dealership and they keep saying that there is no problem. i bought this vehicle to pull my camper. it does not perform the way it was touted in their advertisements. *tt
I was driving to work entering the freeway doing 55 i tried to accelerate the vehicle past a slower moving car and the vehicle began to shake violently and the truck lost power. had i been in heavy traffic this would have certainly caused a serious collision as i was unable to control the vehicle and had to slow down to 30 mph on the freeway before i could slowly accelerate back up to speed. this has occurred multiple times since october especially after rain or even in the mornings when it has been a heavy frost overnight. also my m.p.g is down to 11 to 13 m.p.g this is horrible especially this day and age in vehicle technology. i have brought my truck to the local dealer and of course they stated they were unaware of a problem. i had to show them multiple complaints from this website and off the ford 150 forum. it has been 6 weeks and the part still is not in for my vehicle. *tr

2012 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. *smd the consumer stated as he tried to merge into traffic on the interstate, he floored the accelerator pedal, but the engine shut down completely. he was able to get the truck off the main interstate and into the emergency lane. the engine light came on. he let the truck sit in the off position for approximately 10 minutes and then he re-started the truck. at that point, he was slowly able to accelerate while in the emergency lane, to a speed that allowed him to re-enter the interstate. all attempts to accelerate quickly failed and it would only accelerate gradually at slower then normal speeds. he continued his trip with the engine light on and at his first opportunity he took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer returned the vehicle to the consumer saying they had fixed the problem. the truck performed well for the next year without any incidents, there were no occasions where quick acceleration was required. in october 2013, he made another trip, and the same incident happened. then engine shut down again in december 2013. the dealer stated they made a different repair and they returned the truck to the consumer. the engine shut down again in april 2014. the dealer kept the vehicle, for two weeks, stating they were unable to find a problem. *jb
Traveling west on i-20 in tx for several hours through rain/mist/foggy conditions. exited the highway for fuel. upon reentering the highway and attempting to accelerate to speed, truck began shaking violently and did not respond to inputs from the throttle. i was able to speed up to about 45mph before the engine problem developed. luckily i had a shoulder to pull over on as i had entered the interstate ahead of a tractor-trailer combo who was doing the speed limit and approaching my rear bumper very quickly. after the engine began misfiring at about 45 mph, i could not increase speed, i was only able to slow down and pull off onto the shoulder. during the incident, the check engine light illuminated, began flashing until the vehicle came to a stop on the shoulder, then remained illuminated until the truck was restarted 5 times on the shoulder. *tr
While cruising at 65 mph on the interstate, heavy acceleration was applied to pass an 18-wheeler. at about 75% throttle and when the automatic transmission downshifted into second gear, the truck began vibrating violently and a check engine light appeared, blinking. immediately letting off the throttle, the truck shifted back to sixth gear and stopped vibrating. a few seconds go by and the check engine light stopped blinking. once i pressed the throttle again, it vibrated violently again, then stopped shortly after. the check engine light stayed solid. *tr
Driving turnpike at 1:30am with wet roads but not raining. cruise control was engaged at 75 mph. approaching a bridge and upon starting to climb on the incline i heard a noise that sounded like the transmission had disengaged then the engine light started pulsating on and off so i tried to accelerate and the truck did not react but since i was going 75 it took me over the bridge and then i coasted down the bridge with the cruise control disengaged. i pulled over to the side and placed truck in park the engine was still on. i turned off the truck and waited about 1 minute then i turned the key back on and the truck started up with no engine light or any sign of problems. i drove all the way to miami with no further incidents. i took the truck to ford of homestead and they said they could not pull a code out of the computer that showed anything had happened. i later took the truck again this time making noises when u accelerated it sounded like the transmission was shuddering and again nothing they could do to replicate it. again on or around march 2013 i took the truck to another ford dealer and tried to replicate the shuddering between 3 or 4 th gear to no avail. the truck this past weekend on the same bridge again with wet roads made the shuddering sound and feeling but the engine light did not come on and the truck upon getting to the top of the bridge continued without having to be turned off and on. at first i thought this might be a transmission issue but whenever i guess the truck accelerates to gain speed to go over the bridge or after leaving a stop or red light between 3 or 4 th gears it shudders and when the bridge comes around it goes to a lower gear and starts losing power. when it happens between 3 or 4th gears it is with me accelerating. they told me that the truck has a memory if you drive it hard or softly it remembers this and shifts differently. *tr
Traveled from benton, la to little rock ar. was driving down two lane highway at 55 mph in the rain. had to come to stop as a vehicle was turning left. upon accelerating vehicle began to shake violently and would not accelerate past 15 mph. was able to pull over to shoulder. turned off vehicle and removed key. restarted engine. vehicle would only run approximately 20 mph. drove to next town about 10 miles away. stopped at gas station for approximately an hour. since it was late in the evening we had to continue traveling. truck then would run about 70 mph down the interstate, but any acceleration would cause the truck to hesitate, shake, and loose power. only extremely easy acceleration would work. no down shifting possible. truck was diagnosed at chenal ford in little rock ar. found to have water in the engine from entering the turbo charger air intake. water apparently accumulates in the turbo charger in the rain. if hard acceleration occurs during the rain, water is pulled to the engine damaging the spark plugs and coil packs. this is a known issue with ford as the have several service bulletins out. unfortunately, the dealer in louisiana has not been provided a correction from ford. my understanding is that the turbo intake system has been redesigned for the 2013 model year. ford at this time is not offering to replace the air intake. as such, i this vehicle is not safe in the rain. a car should not stall when accelerating. *tr
