Problems with 2012 Ford F-150 UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2012 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 75 097 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2012 Ford F-150

Engine accelerates by itself when i turn it on or if i'm at a red light or as soon as i put it in drive

November 28th. 2019. back windshield right window shattered into 1000 peices from doing nothing. the truck was idling and in park on pavement. i had the rear defroster on. suddenly heared a big bang. looked around and noticed the window broke. no evidence of it being struck or hit. it was about 33 degrees outside and snowing/sleeting.

The ignition switch does not want to turn. and seems loose in the column.

Power steering suddenly failed and the service advancetrac light came on while accelerating from a stop sign and turning left. maneuvered the car down the street and couldn't navigate the driveway so i backed up and the power steering began working but the advancetrac light remained on. this light came on before but with no effect to the steering only the blinkers, which would not stay on. disconnected the battery and light and problem went away. spoke with the dealer and was told that it was also connected to the abs braking system and to schedule an appointment if these happens again. 114800 miles.

What driving and a/c cut on and off and had smoke coming from the vent and not long after passenger side dash caught on fire

Secondary timing chain link came apart soon after i bought the truck in 2015 at 66,000 miles my warranty paid for it. now it is happening again but on the other side of the engine. 2 time chain links fall apart. ford is not paying for this because my warranty was up 2 months ago and it is not a pre certified truck, miles are 120,066 miles. 2 timing chain links break in 4 years???????? the technicians at santa maria ford said they have never seen anything like this before. ford is denying to pay for this repair!!!!!!!

My transmission is getting stuck in third gear and is unexpectedly downshifting to 1st gear when driving.

The truck was in park i had stepped out to check the mail with my children in the truck the next thing i knew my truck was moving like it was in gear i jumped in pressed the break and it still showed it in park i pushed into park harder and it stopped.. i was not on a hill or anything to make it roll and it was actually moving like it was put into gear

Rear window in 2012 ford f150 supercrew cab shattered when driver's door closed

Recall notice19s07 recall nhtsa 19v-075 i have gone to the dealership 2 times i have the 6 cylinder with3.5 eco-boost engine. they said ford does not have a repair for the v-6 yet but when they do i will receive a notice why was i notified if there is no reprograming yet. it has been recalled and they have not been given a fix

Had recall preformed it still is dropping into 1st gear while driving complaint number: 11181584

Twice now (i just purchased it less than 30 days ago) while backing out of my driveway i had to stand on the brakes to stop the vehicle. no power brakes were present. no lights on dash, no warning,....no nothing.

Driver side rear window shattered while sitting still in a parking lot with vehicle not running. the rear window is a 3 piece sliding window with rear defrost and factory tint. the vehicle had just been turned off after driving with the rear defroster on. approximately 2-3 minutes after turning the vehicle off i heard a load boom and after investigating found it to be the rear glass shattering. after researching the condition, it seems to be a common problem on these vehicles after running the rear defroster.

2012 f150 fx4 passenger rear window exploded 2-9-19. 32 degrees. has defrost, was not on. actually caught the incident on video while parked in my driveway. entered vehicle after remote start, inserted key...10 seconds later "shatter". this is clearly defective glass, maybe not thick enough? disappointing. this should be a recall. i do have video as it occurred.

Powered slide rear window. sliding rear widow blew out while driving truck

No air cool/heat blows out ....3rd f-150 has done this something must be wrong

01/18/2019 at approximately 3:45 pm est, my wife and i were traveling on nb route 301 in the crofton, maryland area. due to the recent snow and cold temperatures we are experiencing here in the eastern portion of the united states, we had the rear defroster activated in our 2012 ford f-150 xlt pick up truck. while actively driving the vehicle, both my wife and i heard an extremely loud "pop" sound while riding inside of the cabin of the truck. i proceeded to look in the rear view mirror to see if i could determine where the noise originated from and that's when i observed that the rear passenger side glass was shattered. after stopping the vehicle, i did not observe any other obvious damage and was confused as to why the window suddenly cracked without an obvious cause. at this point i was quite perplexed. i subsequently turned to google in an attempt to find a solution and that's when i figured out what had occurred. it has been brought to my attention through various forums and online sites that multiple other ford f-150 owners have experienced this same exact issue with the same exact circumstances in place (rear defroster activated, loud "pop" sound, observed a broken rear window). the articles go on to provide nightmarish exchanges between ford f-150 owners and ford dealerships where they are forced to pay full price for the repairs due to warranties being expired. based on the age of the truck as well as it's mileage, i too am out of warranty. i do not believe ford is recognizing or handling these issues properly. this appears to strictly be a design defect and no fault or negligence on the part of the owner/operator. my safety concerns are decreased visibility and sharp tempered glass shards inside of the cabin. i have submitted an insurance claim and am responsible for my deductible. i am looking to the nhtsa for assistance in looking into this matter.

Transmission - output speed sensor is faulty. had a recall, said the transmission module needed reprogramming, however this did not fix issue of downshifting to 1st gear and unable to shift out of. also happens to 3rd and 5th. other 2012's have lead frame assembly replacement which takes care of faulty output speed sensor, my recall of re-programming has all the symptoms of the lead frame recall but is just outside the manufacture date and not included

Right rear slider window exploded and shattered. defroster may have been on. vehicle running about 5 to ten minutes. this has been a issue with f 150's since 2010. also the water pump went out with 29003 miles. now the truck has about 30100 miles accumulated. driving slowly on a country paved road. fords customer assistance refused to repair as the vehicle is out of warranty even though this is a on going factory fault. my sons f150 had the same issue.

I turn on rear defogger heard of loud bang and the right side of rear window shattered. there was no evidence of an impact.

Moon roof: opened once when purchased. accidently opened instead of dome light. off the grid, would only close half way. 40 mph. winds, heavy rain, got soaked. very dangerous driving giving i was exposed to the outdoor elements as described. dark wind and rain in my face for half hour. wiping h2o from face and inside wind shield, steering and dash. had mechanic at a garage closed it. found two small pieces of plastic broken off track. dealer first quote $1,100.00. second quote was $2,200.00. blog on web and u tube repair sites many examples of moon roof failures from track failure to moon roof exploding on ford vehicles. why does this not constitute a recall. ford dealerships are asking the consumer to pay outrageous prices to have their engineering failures fixed. a rip off to the consumer. i paid about $43,000 for this vehicle. the cost to fix the moon roof is over 5% of the cost of my truck.

Rear defrost has been working sporadically, and then all of a sudden my back passenger window exploded as i was driving down the road. i was told the heating element is what caused the window to explode.

The door locks on the vehicle stick in the locked position. i cannot get in or out the vehicle when the door locks stick. this is a reoccurring issue. i have to get pliers to pull the tab up to get it unlocked. it happens in both stationary and when the vehicle is in motion.

Driving down the road when the truck lurches forward, rear tires make a squealing sound from skidding. it was hard to keep truck in center lane of interstate and immediately had to make my way to the emergency lane. once i turned the truck off and sat for a few minutes it acted like nothing ever happened. i have read the reports of the intercooler being messed up and several years ago i had to replace that part due to oil and water entering it but ford says it wasn't under warranty due to a part not being covered. i have had coils replaced, spark plugs replaced, and now i'm having to go thru the whole process again. its dangerous and frustrating. i've had it happen a couple more times but not to that extent. the gauges will peg all the way to the right then go to zero and airbag light will come on. truck resets to normal when turned off and back on again. i have had this problem happen most of the summer. but this incident happened a few weeks ago. repair shop can't replicate it and the computer diagnostic test doesn't find it either.

The roof frame holding the glass electrically operates moonroof cracked creating a dangerous condition during a rollover accident. the most serious problem would be a wateeemersion like the recent amphibious ww2 'duck' where 17 souls were lost. please step up and require ford to fix the problem. the first thing that came out of fords mouth was ' oh yeah we've been having problems with the sliding glass roofs. ford has serviced my vehicle since i bought it in 2012 and never mentioned this problem.

Had been in the truck driving and the rear window defroster on. when i stopped and opened the door to the truck a panel in the rear sliding back glass exploded. i have been seeing where many others have had the issue and some had said to report it here.

Rear window, on passenger side, shattered after turning the defrost on. temp was approximately 15 degrees. the indicator light on the defrost was flickering, as the window shattered, then turned off. this occurred while driving on a straight flat road 30 miles per hour.

While driving my pick up on a cold day with the rear window defroster on, one panel of the rear window shattered. during subsequent driving the rear window fell out of the frame into the bed of the pick up. i believe the defroster malfunctioned and overheated causing the panel to shatter because of the excessive heat being generated by the defroster versus the cold air outside the vehicle.

I own a 2012 f150 ecoboost. my problem is when i accelerate during rainy/humid weather conditions, the vehicle stalls and shutters. the check engine light does not illuminate and the service center cannot daignose the problem because they can't see any code. i've been recommended to get new spark plugs and coils which does not solve the problem. austin, texas 1/2018

My f150 started to drop in to 1st gear unexpectedly when driving at at speeds greater than 50mph. at first the check engine light did not come on and mechanic could not find a source now i am getting engine codes p0720 and p0722. when i tried to investigate i found that this has been recalled on some 2012 ford f150 but not mine. this is a serious safety issue and has cause unexpectedly down shifts on national interstates. i urge you to please investigate this thoroughly.

Turned on the truck to warm up and turned on the defroster on the back window because it was cold out. about 5min down the road we heard this very loud pop and the window completely shattered. luckily it stayed intact or the glass would have gone all over my two year old son. now i am being told it costs over $1000.00 to fix!

I turned on the rear defrost and my passenger side of the rear window shattered. there was a loud noise when it happened. i was driving when this happened. the dealer and other ford personnel have admitted this is a widespread problem - but no recall.

My 2012 f150 rear drivers side window section suddenly shattered after turning on the rear defrost function. rear defrost went on then i smelled something burning g. the rear drivers side glass section then shattered. there was absolutely no trauma that caused this. the rear defrost will no longer operate since. i contacted ford service and there is no recall at this time. i searched online and found close to 150 similar complaints. when the glass shattered the temperature was near 30 degrees and the vehicle was not in motion.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and lost power. the check engine indicator immediately illuminated. the contact managed to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder of the highway and the check engine indicator dimmed briefly. the contact called the nearest ford dealer and was informed that since the check engine indicator was no longer illuminated, he should continue to drive the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to larry h. miller ford lakewood, 11595 w 6th ave, lakewood, co 80215, (720) 643-1545) and repaired. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they added an air deflector per technical service bulletin: 13-08-01. the contact was concerned that the manufacturer did not issue a recall. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 51,251.

P0720 trouble code. speedometer does not work. at highway cruising speeds, the transmission occasionally downshifts to 1st gear.

I purchased a 2012 ford ecoboost in july 2012. and purchased an extended 5yr 100k mile warranty., which was valid through july 20, 2017. in august of 2017, after the truck sat for a couple days, i would start the car and hear a loud rattle coming from the front of the motor. i started to research the internet and found out that ecoboost models from 2011-2015 had faulty timing chains that stretched / malfunctioned after a short period of time. i found several testimonials and videos of ecoboost owners with the same issue. i contacted ford and basically got a "sorry" response since i was 60 days over the warranty period. the repair cost $~ 4000 and ford is turning a blind eye. i have followed all maintenance requirements and take impeccable care of my vehicle. and i'm now faced with a $4000 repair bill with a truck with 77k miles on it. we need nhtsa to help ford step up to the plate and make this right to the customer. and issue a recall for this current tsb. if not repaired, the time chain can jump and destroy the motor. this isn't a small issue. no consumer should be faced with a $4000 repair bill after 77k miles and taking care of their vehicle. your support in instituting a recall for this design malfunction will not just help me, but many others i've met online with the same issue. regards.

I went to open the moonroof on a hot afternoon to vent the truck. i pressed the switch to tilt the glass and it didn't seem to move. i tried the slide function and heard a loud pop. the glass slid about 1" and stopped. i tried numerous times to open or close the moonroof and only succeeded in getting it to open about 5" and it will not close. i have read many posts on ford forums and other forums about this problem. it includes not only the f-150's but explorers and expeditions from 2007 to present. a small plastic part breaks and renders to moonroof inoperable. the owner is then stuck with an opening in the roof of their vehicle that will let the weather in. rain could potentially short out much of the vehicles electrical system. the estimated cost to fix this at the dealer is as much as $2400 for a part the probably cost ford less than $1. the vehicle was stationary when this happened, but could very well happened on the highway as i have opened the moonroof while traveling before. the sound of the plastic pieces breaking while opening could very well startle a driver if opened while traveling. i have to travel with a piece of plastic in the truck and use it to cover the opening in case of rain. also the vehicle isn't secure because of the opening. i'm also not sure if this will shatter the glass if opened further.

When parked with ignition off and no one in the truck drivers side door will not unlock with key or inside on the unlock switch. when i first noticed the problem sometimes you can unlock and lock repeatedly and it would unlock but now it wont do anything. both doors lock fine but when unlocking only the passanger side door unlocks. this is on an extended cab xlt.

I have a 2012 f-150 and have lost power along with the body of truck shacking on 4 occasions. want to know how many throttle bodies i have had - the original, the replacement in 2016, another replacement in 2016 and now i broke down again yesterday. actually on the 3rd throttle body, my husband dropped me off to pick truck up at dealership and i broke down in the ford dealership parking lot as i was exiting the dealership. i again left it and they said it was dust on something and later afternoon delivered it to my house. so now one year later... one year to the day of breaking down, yesterday 5/11/17, i lost power on top of a big bridge on the inside line coming on to our island and by the grace of god no one was in the outer lane and i was able to coast over to the very small and tight emergency lane. people are usually cresting the bridge at 60 mph so i say god was watching over us. we called 911 and waited in the emergency lane on top of bridge and had a police escort off the bridge to a parking lot. we were afraid to move on our own in case someone crested the bridge and was caught off guard as we were coasting down. the emergency lane is very narrow on the bridge and it was a little nerve-wracking. after sitting 5 minutes i was able to start the truck again which is always the case. i had it towed to the ford dealership and have called left message twice to speak to the service manager and he has yet to call me back. way to go ford! my faith in you is lost. i will never feel safe in my truck again. how many throttle bodies does one have to go through before you feel there needs to be a recall on the 2012 f-150. #luckytobealive

Tailgate step hinge needs to have slip resistant spray or material on it. the step has slip resistant material, but when stepping down, if the ball of your foot lands on the hinge you can slide off the step resulting in severe injury

My ford dealer told me my all of my lug nuts need to be replaced, because they are worn out and dangerous! my dealer said the old lugs can not be removed so they can rotate my tires. my truck is only 5 years old. i need a recall order!

Automatic transmission suddenly shifted to first gear while vehicle was traveling at around 50 mph, without any driver input. traveling on a city street, level and dry conditions. wheels locked up and vehicle stopped. vehicle stayed in first gear for awhile and then began driving normally for a few hundred yards and then the problem repeated .

Sunroof shattered while going down interstate. sounded like an explosion x 3

While driving on the interstate at approximately 70 miles per hour, the sunroof on my truck exploded. no sounds of anything striking the window were heard, just a loud pop when it gave way.

3/7/2017 20 minute drive home, shut truck off to run inside house cameout to run errand to pharmacy and upon starting truck after pharmacy service advance trac showed up in instrument cluster, this has also caused my turn signals not to work. this truck has had a faulty tourque convertor, rear window replacement due to break in rear window defroster. now this, i do not feel safe in this vehicle and will be pursuing the lemon law in my state. when safety issues arise and are reported they should be acted on immediatly! should not wait til numbers of deaths before action is taken. a conscientious automaker with customer safety in mind would put out recalls to keep the public safe.

I have a 2012 fx4 f150 with 51,400 miles on it, 29 degree morning, i turn on defrosters in both front and rear. i am driving to work and about 5 minutes down the road and i hear a load pop and i don't hear or feel anything else. it is dark, so i don't notice anything right away. as i'm pulling into work and a little light outside, i see my driver side of the 3 piece rear window is shattered. it is a rear sliding window(still operates fine). i heard about this happening to others when i purchased the vehicle and was investigating recalls. so i go out at lunch to investigate and notice small shards of glass on my daughter's car seat. i called the dealership i bought the truck from, there is nothing they could do so now i'm stuck with eating this cost myself. ford should issue a recall for this.

When i an pushing the gas pedal to go, the whole truck vibrates at random intervals and lasts for about 15 seconds at intervals every 1 to 2 minutes. this happens at all speeds and is getting worse everyday. les schwab checked the tires, brakes, rotors, axles, bearing and u-joints and everything is good. it feels almost like you are driving on a rumble strip but more harsh. the severity of the vibration is worse while driving up hills and it is getting worse by the day. *tr

Sunroof imploded while parked. i went to my truck to get something in the afternoon closed the door, thought i heard a pop. went back to work and a coworker pointed out something looked wrong with my sunroof. the glass popped up and the entire sunroof shattered. how am i responsible for replacing this!? $900 was the estimate.

I have a 2012 f-150 flex fuel 5.0. last night it started downshifting and slamming into 1st gear while driving approximately 65 mph. i stopped for errands got started on the road again and the truck did the same thing but a "wrench" appeared in my dash display. i took it to my local mechanic who diagnosed the problem with p0731 - molded lead frame. he indicated ford had issued a service bulletin stating a "free" fix of the problem. the truck is at ford now but ford is saying my vin is not part of the recall. my truck was built in january 2012 at the kansas city plant. what would make the molded lead frame go bad if it is not part of the recall?

Fluid loss: on 2 separate occasions i have parked my truck in my driveway at night and in the morning i awake to find puddles of fluid under truck. i have taken the truck to a ford service center and both times have been told i have no leaks. 2 days ago the puddle of reddish fluid was much bigger. once again i am told no leaks by service department. i have shown them pictures & i am told there are fluids they cannot check, ford has not provided a way to do that on this truck. i purchased an extended warranty as i can't afford a huge repair bill. other f150 owners have had similar issues and i am concerned. is ford going to wait until someone dies or are they hoping the consumer will pay for fix after warranty has expired? what are they hiding?
