Problems with 2011 Ford F-150 ENGINE

On average, the 2011 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 53 463 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Ford F-150

I have been having problems with engine noise ranging from a deep howling to a sound like a steel chain being drug over an aluminum ladder. i have had problems with the sync, memory seats and steering wheel, auto start, and an ongoing problem with hesitation or miss firing in the engine that cause the truck to loose power on acceleration and go into limp mode. i have had some really close calls getting onto the highway where i was almost hit from behind when the truck lost power. i have had the truck in the shop 13 times and getting ready to go back for the 14th time. i have tried the bbb and the lemon law program which i was denied by a third party arbitrator. i was expecting that because a bbb employee said 93% of all people that file a lemon law claim in missouri get denied. i have an extended warranty with 50,000 miles left on it and the ford engineer in charge of repairs says he refuses to do anything about the engine noise anymore because of the past failed repairs. this is an v6 ecoboost . i don't know what to do next. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f150. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the vehicle was not repaired and the problem persisted. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000. *tr

While entering a highway via an on-ramp doing about approximately 45 miles per hour i attempted hard acceleration to pick up speed and merge in to traffic that was doing approximately 65-70 miles per hour. when i depressed the throttle the vehicle did not accelerate, but it started to hesitate and shake. the check engine light came on and the vehicle would not go over 40 miles per hour. this almost caused an accident situation as i expected the vehicle to accelerate when it did not. i was then forced to pull over to the shoulder and shut the vehicle off. after restarting the vehicle the cel had cleared and the vehicle was operating normally. no code was stored in the pcm to indicate what the issue was. this happened several more times since the first incident. once while towing a 4000lb boat/trailer which also almost caused a severe accident. ford has found nothing wrong with the vehicle and concludes there is nothing they can do since no codes were stored. i will note that after receiving tsb 12-2-10 the vehicle will still exhibit the same symptoms described above, but now the check engine light does not come on. vehicle will stall, go in to "limp mode" with no indication that anything is wrong. only resolution is to turn the vehicle off and back on to clear the status. this creates dangerous situations when on a highway. completely unacceptable. *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle became hesitant upon acceleration as the front end began shaking violently. the check engine warning light was also illuminated. in addition, the vehicle proceeded to accelerate forward at rapid speeds when driving 50 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician was unable to diagnose the acceleration failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

Truck lost all fluid from transmission. ford replace seal in transmission after sitting at dealer for nearly 3 weeks. since that time, i have made multiple complaints to local dealer about engine stumble on hard acceleration. dealer replaced air deflector per ford service bulletin. truck still stumbles on hard acceleration. (06/01/2013) current mileage 40,900. *tr

Under hard acceleration into traffic or when passing, vehicle will suddenly lose power and go into a "limp mode." this condition is thought to occur because of engine misfire and several factors have been identified that can cause this in the ecoboost 3.5l v6. the dealer has replaced ignition coils with no success in correcting this issue. my service manager shared with me that ford engineering is well aware of the issue and has yet to come up with a solution to correct it. in the meantime, my family is placed at risk of an accident because there is no way to predict when the engine will suddenly lose power when you need it most for passing or merging situations. this becomes even worse when pulling a trailer. nhtsa should demand that ford immediately recall and repair these vehicles, or replace them until an appropriate solution is found to remedy the misfire condition and resultant lost of power. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the contact also stated that the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to multiple dealers where the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000. the vin was not available.

While merging onto the highway, the truck shuddered violently and slowed to about 10 mph . i released the throttle and gently reapplied it and it ran fine. i took it to dealer and they couldn't replicate it. the event has happened since, but check engine light doesn't stay on , so ford unwilling to do anything about it. *tr

Engine lost power ,terrible shaking and vibrating, will not accelerate. was able to leave lane of traffic, too side of highway and stop. after brief period of time was able too restart and return home to dealership for diagnosis and was told engine had misfire, but there was no fix for it at that time.this has been some 15 or 16 months, vehicle has been back too dealership 8(eight) times and still has lurching, fast idle, and service engine soon light illumination when engine is running. *tr

The first time i was accelerating in an on ramp to highway speeds when the engine started missing to the point i had to abort entering the highway and pull into the emergency lane to avoid the on coming traffic. i took it to the dealer and was told that nothing could be found wrong with the engine. this has happened numerous times and i keep getting told that there are no reports of this happening on other eco boost engines. my solution is to increase the distance to get up to speed with the approaching traffic which is not always a safe practice. *tr

At roughly 800 miles i attempted to pass on a rainy afternoon and while applying enough load to pass the truck started to surge/misfire severely and the check engine light started to flash. drove the truck about 2 miles in this derated condition until i reached my destination. turned the ignition to off and then cycled the ignition back on and the check engine light went out and the unit ran correctly again. took unit to the dealer and the diagnostic tool once plugged into the data port did not reveal any fault codes and no codes were stored. the dealer could not duplicate the issue and nothing was done to resolve the issue. this has happened very intermittently about 7 times total now always when trying to apply throttle in either humid or rainy weather conditions. several software updates have been performed to the truck for some issue with the trans, but this intermittent misfire under light load still occurs. this happened most recently at roughly 23100 miles on the odometer while driving up an incline at roughly 65 mph and applying light load to try and climb the hill. had to let off the throttle and try to apply the throttle again to accelerate. this continued for about 3 throttle application attempts than finally smoothed out without illuminating the cel this time. im sure the issue will continue until ford comes out with a real resolve and not band aid repairs. *tr

I was driving and i had loss of power started misfiring shifting funny and i was almost killed by a large truck something needs to be done.

I have already reported this piece of junk but needed to add to the list?. we, as of last week, are on our 15th rental while the dealer and ford are trying to figure out whats wrong with it again?. the engine light has been coming on since the week we bought this junk and is still flashing while we drive?.. the dealer has asked ford to put in a new engine several times but ford for some reason wants the dealer to just keep replacing the same parts over and over again?? we have had several new sets of plugs.. the others crack and short out? we've had cam phasers and sensors replaced?? fast forwarding through many parts repeatedly replaced, the dealer now says there are parts sheared off in the engine and are asking ford, once again to replace the engine?. we are waiting on ford to (probably) decline the dealers recommendation?.. ford stopped calling us back, we have left several messages and they just keep passing the buck onto the poor dealer, who has been trying to help us?.. ford should have taken this lemon back long ago and gave us a new one?.. our 15th rental might be with us for some time while we wait on an answer?? we sometimes have our rentals for over a month at a time??. its nice to keep paying on time for a vehicle that we don't even have?(sarcasm). *tr

Lost power, engine died under hard acceleration while trying to pass a car. checked with the local ford dealer and the customer relations center at ford and they claim they never heard of such a problem. *tr

The truck lost all power when acceleration was required. gas to floor and it fell to idle while passing. lost all power again during a merge to freeway, drop to idle and rough running. lost all power while trying to stay ahead of on coming traffic. 3 times in 60000 km. no warning drive line shudders when subjected to light load slight grade highway speeds. feels like engine miss. dozens of trips to dealers 5 tsbs and many documented letters to ford. ready to give up. *tr

Sometimes when i try to pass the engine during full acceleration stumbles and looses acceleration. it does not happen all the time and does not give an error code in the computer. very dangerous on two lane road passing. *tr
