Problems with 2011 Ford F-150 ENGINE

On average, the 2011 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 53 463 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Ford F-150

During the process of draining engine oil, was removing the oil filter and oil started to pour out under the truck. there is an oil filter drain catch basin that is installed to make all the oil being spilled come out where it can be captured. the catch basin is not installed in a manner that allows the oil to drain properly, instead, the back end is lower than the drain portion. blogs seem to confirm this is a problem with many of these trucks. *tr

I made a left turn from a traffic light stop, as i was accelerating on a moderate rate, the engine "took off" (unintended acceleration) and immediately accelerated to ~50+mph. i switched transmission into neutral and applied the brakes and slowed down to the speed limit, ~35 mph. i checked to make sure the accelerator pedal was not stuck on the floor mat (it wasn't). i reengaged the transmission and the acceleration started immediately again. this unintended acceleration occurred three times in a stretch of about 2 miles or so, until i had a clear, safe place to pull over. the check engine light did not come on, at least not that i could notice. after i stopped the truck and started up again things were fine. i tried to "recreate" the situation by suddenly accelerating, but to no avail. i have scheduled an appointment with the dealer. the vehicle is a 2011 ford f-150 pickup with 3.5l ecoboost engine. *tr

I was traveling in the righthand lane of the east bound side of i24 around manchester, tn. my speed was approximately 65-70 mph. i suddenly came up upon slower traffic in the same lane and signaled to pass the slower traffic. as i looked in my mirrors for traffic behind me i noticed another vehicle closing on me in a hurry. i depressed the accelerator to gain speed and make the pass. the vehicle lurched and the motor suddenly shut down and wouldn't accelerate in the middle of my pass. the vehicle behind me locked their brakes and managed to slow their vehicle down before possibly colliding with me. i let the slower traffic on the right pass and signaled to get back in the right hand lane. this has happened twice to me and i think there is a real possibility this could endanger lives and property if not corrected. my 2011 ford f-150 is equipped with the 3.5 liter ecoboost v6. *tr

After 4 hours of steady highway driving upon attempting to pass a vehicle the truck failed to downshift , lost power ( requiring me to abort maneuver) and began bucking... there was no cel. took the car to the dealer and they inspected the truck found no codes and said no problem found. they said they reloaded the programming for the transmission. this vehicle has experienced this problem numerous times since the first occurrence. always happens when accelerating and creates dangerous loss of power at critical driving periods. *tr

While traveling down i-55, towing my travel trailer on a trip from st. louis, mo to gulf shores, al, vehicle experienced a total loss of power on the interstate. i had been driving multiple hours in the rain when in jackson, ms, i had to let off the gas to allow other vehicles to merge onto the highway. when i re-applied the gas, the vehicle started shaking violently and would not accelerate. this caused the vehicle to lose speed and drop from around 60mph to 35mph on the interstate. after letting off and re-applying gas about three times the vehicle finally recovered and i was able to continue on my way. luckily the other drivers on the highway were able to avoid me and i was not rear-ended or otherwise caused a serious accident. *tr

Engine miss fire. the engine when trying to pass miss fires and actually slows down. when i took the vehicle to a ford dealer they told me there was nothing wrong and it was not miss firing. it continued to do this and i repeatedly took it back for service with the same result. after doing some research there were many esb's on this subject with the turbo cooling system returning water back to the firing chambers burning out the spark plugs, coil packs, and sending raw fuel to the catalytic converter burning it out. i was never notified of these issues even though the esb's were available to the ford dealer of the issues now that the warranty is over i am expected to repair these issues. this is fraud!!! *tr

During rain storm or high humidity driving conditions, while at a steady speed for a few minutes, i apply the gas pedal to pass or merge, my truck stutters and loss of engine power occurs. when this happened it caused truck to slow down to unsafe speeds rapidly while on highway, causing me to steer to the side of the road to avoid a crash. the truck is still on when this happens but accelerator peddle is useless until vehicle is stopped, after a few moments it will work again. this happened multiple times and on multiple dates. one particular trip from pennsylvania to florida and back, this above condition happened no less than 15 times. had my truck in for multiple services and nothing, but a code for misfire i believe the tech said. had all tsb's done as of august 2013. my truck is averaging very bad gas mileage between 8.5 mpg to 12mpg. my truck also stutters while in reverse while backing out of my driveway on cold days. *tr

2011 f-150 3.5l ecoboost loss of power when accelerating from 50-60 mph to pass a vehicle. vehicle bogs down and i was nearly rear ended twice in one weekend. many are having this problem, i have taken the truck in for service and ford cannot find a fix. this is either a fueling issue or a condensation issue in the turbo system, this problem only occurs in high humidity or rainy weather and usually has a misfire feeling to it. ford is not pushing the issue and there are going to be accidents before they do anything. personally i would not like to be killed in my new truck. the engine light has came on and threw codes p0300, p0304, p0305, po306, which are all misfires, but when the truck is shut off and turned back on no codes are stored. this needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt. *tr

Poor gas mileage. window sticker says 23 mpg highway, best i ever got is 16 mpg, with cruise set at 65 mph on flat level highway. had at dealer, 4 times, they updated computer, changed turbo intercooler and they still cant improve my fuel economy. around town i get 12 mpg. bad turbo lag when pulling out low power, dealer said its how turbos work. doors rattle, speakers crackle, rear end springs make a creaking sound. 4 wheel drive makes a loud growling, sounds like gears are not meshed right. i would not recommend a new f-150 to any one. nothing but trips to the dealer and let downs. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while operating the vehicle, the transmission downshifted hard and the vehicle jerked without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician made adjustments to the transmission sensor, but the failure recurred. in addition, while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook and vibrated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine cylinder coil failed and the cylinder battery pack needed to be replaced. eventually five of the six cylinder battery packs failed and were replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 20,000. updated 08/04/16*lj

Vehicle acts as if it wants to stall during rainy conditions upon high acceleration, only during wet conditions does the ecoboost not accelerate when needed. has caused 3 serious situations where power was needed and expected but truck sputtered and would not accelerate. this has been dangerous and dealer has no fix. i am unhappy with this engine. there are no lights that come on to warn you of the condition, and you cannot tell there is a problem when cruising at highway speeds, only when you go to pass or need power. *tr

I have had the stall and/or shudder problem several times. by far the worst is the date and items listed in the incident information. while attempting to pass another vehicle on a two lane highway, after driving in a steady downpour for at least an hour, my ecoboost f150 fell flat on its face. no acceleration at all. it just stalled and the check engine light came on. i let off the accelerator and tried again with no reaction from the motor. i then feathered the throttle and was able to get around the other vehicle. the truck would run as long as i didn't try to accelerate quickly. luckily there were no oncoming vehicles in the other lane. with dryer weather the problem disappeared. since that time i have had it shudder a few times when trying to accelerate. mostly in damp or humid conditions. *tr

The truck has a hesitation at between 50 and 60 mph when going uphill in 6th gear. it feels as though the truck tries to shift but does not. additionally at least two separate times the truck has lost power when attempting to pass another vehicle. most recently on 5/29/2013 a vehicle pulled onto the road in front of me when i was driving approximately 55 mph, i pulled around the vehicle and accelerated to make it past the other car and avoid on coming traffic. the truck lost power and seemed to down shift. i let off the gas and tried to press it again with no response. at this point i was beyond the other vehicle and was able to get back into the lane and avoid oncoming traffic. the truck was still losing power so i attempted to press the gas again and the vehicle shuttered multiple times. i let off the gas again and waited a few seconds before accelerating and was able to resume normal driving. the weather was raining an humid at the time of the most recent problem. the truck has been brought to varney ford in newport maine at least twice for service of this problem. they have attempted multiple fixes but after the most recent attempt in september 2012 i was advised that the performance may just be "a characteristic of the vehicle" and that they could not do anything else to help. i have not contacted the dealer again because they appear to be unable to help. *tr

Truck started to shake violently when accelerating. felt as if the wheels were loose or the u joint for the drive shaft was going bad. had to let off the gas. has been ongoing from the time i purchased the vehicle to present time. *tr

Ford ecoboost. vehicle has few issues. first there is unexpected hesitation when pulling out in traffic. you are without power and subject to being run over. there are times when at highway speeds the engine goes limp when accelerating leaving you in traffic subject to being run over. ford has replaced the cac and this has not happened since. when at speed and you accelerate a small amount, the engine will misfire and run rough. the lack of throttle response leaves you vulnerable when passing. been at the dealer 5 times for these problems. *tr

When i went to accelerate the motor started to skip and lost power the light came on. this has now happen on 5 different time two times while pulling a 5th wheel camper in the rain causing traffic to make evasive moves to keep from running us over. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle stuttered violently, while driving at various speeds. the dealer replaced the spark plugs and the spark plug boots. however, the contact felt that the repair would not be a permanent repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000.

I was traveling in florida on the highway and went to pass a semi. the engine sputtered and i lost power. the check engine light came on and i had to pull off of the interstate. i shut off the engine and restarted it. the check engine light went off and the engine ran fine. several times since, the vehicle would sputter on hard acceleration and the engine light would blink. the latest time this happened, the engine light stayed on. when i took it to the dealer for repairs, i was told it was a faulty spark plug and coil and was not covered under the drivetrain warranty. the truck has done this several times since this repair. *tr

Following two heavily laden 18 wheelers during a light rain storm for two or more miles on a paved, two lane county road, it came clear for me to pass, i accelerated and all went well for just long enough for me to get even with the first one in front of me. my momentum carried me far enough to pull back in front of the first truck. by that time i was in serious trouble. my truck would barely run, it was vibrating violently and there was no acceleration to get me out of the way of the truck i had just passed. had he not braked hard for me there could have been a serious wreck. i've have had 5 other incidents with this vehicle. i've taken it up with fomoco, over a period the first year. working through the oklahoma bbb i was assured ford would correct the problem. fomoco sent a texas rep to my work location to put the most recent fix on the vehicle. following this fix, we continued into a dry spell, but as fate would would have it, i was in a heavy rain within the next 2 weeks and the problem reappeared. this time my wife was in the vehicle with me. she thought i had run over something because the action of the pickup was so violent. i've occasionally seen letters to the editor of motor trend's "truck trend". other people describing the exact thing i've experienced driving this same type vehicle (early model ecoboost v-6, those built prior to april 2011, i believe). i have a huge file from the time when i was trying very hard to get this corrected, dealerships, dates, times, correspondence, ford tech bulletins, but i refuse to waste my time with you unless you contact me acting as if something might seriously be done. ([xxx], or e-mail, [xxx]). i have enough to prove my vehicle has serious problems and fomoco admitted it. a transcript of my meeting with them through the oklahoma bbb. it's interesting what they had to say. Drove 200 miles with cruise set at 73 mph towing an enclosed trailer, damp cool conditions. pulled off freeway to fuel up. while accelerating on the on ramp to get back on the freeway, vehicle stumbled, lost all power to the wheels, truck would not accelerate. removed foot from accelerator for a few seconds and pressed down again, this time the truck accelerated. happened again 2 days later while driving through fog. vehicle is a 2011 f-150 equipped with the ecoboost engine. intercooler condensation is the suspected culprit. *tt

While merging into traffic the engine began to loose power and misfire. the vehicle entered "limp home" mode, noted by a flashing check engine light. the vehicle was taken to the ford dealership and simply had the error codes cleared. similar incident occurred few months later and the vehicle underwent recommended repair/upgrade per ford tsb including intercooler cover and reflash of computer. for past week vehicle has had persistent power loss and "shuttering" during acceleration. this not only limits the drivability of the vehicle, it also endangers the occupants when attempting to merge with traffic and crossing intersections. the dealership is aware of the problem, however there seems to be no effort to find a "complete and lasting" solution. *tr

My vehicle is equipped with the 3.5 liter ecoboost 6 cylinder engine. upon attempting to pass a vehicle while traveling at freeway speeds, the vehicle began to hesitate and the engine felt rough. the vehicle refused to accelerate, causing me to swerve back into the right lane to avoid being rear-ended by a vehicle traveling in the left lane. after approximately 30 - 60 seconds, the vehicle would accept throttle and resume normal operation. this problem has repeated itself on multiple occasions and my vehicle is currently at the dealership for the 7th time to remedy this problem. in only one instance of the many that i've had, i did get a check engine light on. fortunately, this was documented by the ford dealership as one entire bank of cylinders misfiring. additionally, i have been complaining of transmission shift issues, where at slow (less than 10 mph) speeds, the transmission often 'hunts' between two gears and once selected, a loud noise emanates from under the vehicle and causes the vehicle to noticeably jerk i only learned of nhtsa pe13018 on 1/28/15. the first incident yielded installation of the deflector in the vicinity of the charge air cooler. another incident yielded a tsb to remove the deflector, and most recently another tsb to re-install said air deflector. in every instance of this problem, i've had to execute emergency maneuvers to avoid traffic accidents. the service manager at my local ford dealership has commented that ford engineering has no clue how to remedy this issue. my vehicle currently has approximately 75,000 miles on it and is covered under ford's extended warranty. *tr

I was driving along hwy 95 in georgia for several hours early one morning. i went to pass a semi and lost all power. the truck rpms jumped up while the transmission down shifted to 4th gear but the truck did not accelerate. i had to get back into my lane in an abrupt way causing traffic to re-act and allow me back in. this has happened almost a dozen times since then. ford has been issuing tsb for a fix but none of them work. this is only happening on the 3.5l eco-boost motor. they are now in their 3rd model year of this truck and are still having this problem, it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured. the timing of when this happens is un-predictable and often leaves no codes for the dealer to troubleshoot, so you get sent on your way with "could not replicate problem". ford has been claiming it is condensation in the inter-cooler, has issued computer updates numerous times, now they have released and upgraded inter-cooler, but the problems are still happening. *tr

Rainy day traveling on highway 19 near crockett , texas. tried to pass slow moving vehicle and engine stalled, check engine light came on and started missing. lost power and i was forced on the side of the road to avoid collision. took truck to dealer and he installed a small plate over inter cooler. several months later while passing on a humid day same thing occurred with same results. pulled to side of road because i could not get back into my lane due to other cars. took back to ford in october, 2013 and they installed another plate on bottom of intercooler and reprogrammed the computer. i have no faith in the repairs and will probably never try a pass in any humid or wet weather. *tr

I was reading on line about the problem with the ford f-150 eco boost engine and realize that this has happen to me several times and scare the [xxx] out of me. not realizing that there was a problem with the truck. as a matter of fact when i try to use the passing gear to pass the truck fell on it face. i would like this to go on a report of engines losing power during hard acceleration such as when passing. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

This is a on going problem that ford knows about and have no fix for, and it will end up killing someone and no one seems to care. it happens when your merging on to traffic the truck boggs down and loses all power many times i almost got killed had to pull off the road so i would not kill the family. the keep coming out with fixes but nothing works including the last one where they put a deflector plate on the intercooler. i can not believe ford keeps putting out trucks when they know of this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the accelerator failed to respond to acceleration attempts. additionally, an error code (p0036) and the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle failed to operate normally when driving in rainy weather. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not able to be diagnosed. the technician was unable to determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 3,500.

Upon trying to pass a truck, when i stepped on the gas for added power, the engine convulsed and shook the entire truck, lost power, engine light flickered... i pulled over immediately, called the ford dealership, they did a check through on star (type system). said they saw nothing?! started back up, seemed to be fine once again. this has happened now multiple times. always when stepping on the gas for added power, same scenario. this is the eco boost engine. while i love the power, it has failed me 5 times to date. same problem as the pe 13-018 report. *tr

2011 ford f 150 with eco boost. when i accelerate the vehicle stalls out, bogs down, looses power and shutters. i have taken in the shop several times and they could not fix it. i recently took it back in and hey changed the spark plugs which helped a little however still really rough. i am thinking of filing. lawsuit against ford. i have tied to trade out of the vehicle and i'm upside down because of bad publicity i'm being told. i thought i had. lemon but i guess it's all the engines. *tr

This truck has the 3.5 liter v6 ecoboost engine. the truck is company owned by wl hall co. i was accelerating while attempting to pass another vehicle. the vehicle lost power then started to shake, shudder and jerk. the check engine light came on and the vehicle's engine started to run very roughly. this happened again at approximately 9,700 miles, 28,000 miles and 60,000 miles. ford has attempted to fix the issue three times. the truck will be going in for service for this issue a fourth time. due to improper performance, this issue almost caused an accident this last time. there have also been numerous incidents over the life of the vehicle where it did not shift properly and dropped power, but then the vehicle corrected itself. *tr

six months after i bought my truck i noticed a shuttering and hesitation while i was on the highway. the shuttering happens when i am cruising at 55-60 mph. more noticeably when the truck is climbing a slight incline on the road while lightly accelerating to maintain 60 mph. i had the dealer look at it 3 times in the last 2 years. the first time they reprogrammed the transmission and the computer. it did not solve the problem. brought it back the second time and i went for a ride with the technician and he noticed the shuttering. he said there was no engine light and no codes to find out what the problem is. finally the third time they said ford is aware of the problem and there engineers are trying to find a solution. i also had problems with my transmission. i was slowing down to come to a stop and the transmission downshifted so hard i thought i got rear ended by the vehicle behind me. *tr

The vehicle just doesn't accelerate without hesitating. *tr

3.5 liter ecoboost motors sputtered under acceleration on hill and has done this since bought. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the engine lost power for a few seconds and then resumed normally. the failure occurred whenever passing another vehicle at speeds of 55 mph or higher. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer numerous times and they were unable to remedy the defect. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000. updated 07/2/13*lj

Ecoboost f150. loss of power when raining while towing. the truck started shaking, lost power and the cel flashed. we were nearly killed on the interstate. this happens every time it rains and we drive more that 45 minutes in the rain. my family no longer feels safe. cars have ran off the road to avoid hitting us. i am afraid my family will be injured. ford keeps sending me away saying they cannot duplicate the issue, (no kidding, it has to be damp and driven in for an extended period). *tr

At about 30 mph while accelerating the engine will cut out and lose power. it will chug, cutting in and out for a few seconds before picking up. this also happens randomly when going up an incline. we have been put in a few dangerous situations by this before but thankfully nothing serious has happened. took it to ford dealer where we bought it and they told us nothing was wrong. we took it back 2 more times and still was told there is nothing wrong. i called today to get the truck back in and they say there is no record of us taking the truck in the previous 3 times. *tr

The ecoboost version that i own has an apparently "known" problem within ford where condensation builds up because of the turbocharger intercooler to the point that when you need to accelerate heavily to avoid a problem, to pass someone, or simply to get on a busy street or freeway, the truck sucks all that water into the engine and it completely misfires similar to just running out of gas. when this happens it can easily cause and almost has caused an accident. this happened first at about 700 miles and has happened numerous times since especially in high humidity. i keep hearing about "some fix is being considered by ford engineering" and that the problem is in the ford oasis problem reporting system number [xxx] i believe but 7 months later i am still waiting for ford to step up. this problem can and i expect will get people killed and that's just sad. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 40,000.

Vehicle experienced hesitation when trying to accelerate. vehicle experiences jerkiness and at times complete power loss when trying to accelerate. vehicle lurches and hesitates when trying to maintain speed going up hills, or when trying to accelerate like when passing a car or on an interstate on ramp. issues have been reported to ford numerous times over past 2yrs, several various excuses provided and an occasional 'attempt' at fixing, with no remedy. most recent event (sep 2013) involved a near crash due to vehicle rapidly losing power in busy traffic. other incidents in the past have included stalling in the middle of an intersection when trying to accelerate from a full stop and nearly losing control when pulling a boat/trailer and the vehicle began to lurch/jerk when going up hills. *tr

The truck has developed a rough idle that causes the truck to feel as if it is missing. along with the idle the fuel economy has dropped 4-5 mpg. i have had the truck in 3 times and 2 different dealers to try to resolve the issue. while in service diagnosics the techs where able to get the truck to misfire twice but they felt that it was not enough to be signifcant. the first dealership suggested i trade the truck in on another because they did not have a fix. the second dealer stated that they contacted ford and was told that their is a known issue but ford does not have a fix for the issue and does not have a timeline for a adaquate fix. the issue has been apparent now for 6 months with no end in sight. i have been told that i will just have to deal with it. *tt

After 100 miles i noticed a vibration or miss while truck idles at stops. since that time every person in the truck notices it at every stoplight or stop sign. i took truck in for service and they ran all computer test on vehicle and they informed me that there is nothing wrong that is just how vehicle runs. i ask the service rep how that can be and he advised me that there have been multiple complaints by other people and that there are no updates or recalls on it.if it gets worse to bring back and will see if they can do anything about it but at this time ford is not looking into the situation. also on a side note chrome tow hooks are rusting and there answer to that is to clean them with steel wool what a way to be treated after making a 40,000.00 dollar purchase. one very pissed ford owner [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I have a ford 2011 fx4 ecoboost. whole truck started shuddering as i was getting onto the southwest freeway. check engine light was flashing and vehicle had loss of power. was able to coast and drive slow to the next exit where i pulled into a gas station and turned the engine off. i started the truck again and it seemed ok but the shuddering happened again on the way home and this time the check engine light stayed on. took it to the dealership where the code was pulled and they replaced the catalytic converter. same thing happened to me (shuddering and loss of power) again at 30k miles 3/4/2013 where this time they replaced a ignition coil and spark plug. and a third time at 34k miles 4/27/2013 and it is back in the shop today. when this happens it is very dangerous driving on the freeway when you cannot get the truck to drive without shuddering and jerking anytime you give it gas. something needs to be done before anyone gets hurt. the dealership so far has been fixing whatever the code states, however there is a underlying condition that is causing this to happen that needs to be addressed. *tr

I was driving at highway speed, and accelerated rapidly to get out of the way of a merging car. the truck shook violently and lost power. i pulled to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. there was no "check engine light" or any other indicator of a problem during the incident, or after restarting the truck. when i took it to the dealer, they indicated that they found nothing wrong with it. i have driven the truck since then wondering if it would happen again. now i see that others are experiencing the same issue. kistler ford in toledo, ohio will have a record of this service appointment on 10-21-11, as i have a copy of the service document stating the above. although i have no way to prove it, the truck has also seemed to have less power since this incident. *tr

Vehicle lost power while accelerating three times two times it was raining. engine shook acted like it was running on 5 cyl instead of 6. engine is 3.5 ecobost. one time the check engine light came on two times it did not. i sent ford an email on 12/15/11 and they had me go to my local dealer. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem and there was no code in the computer. ford was prompt in answering my email. i understand that nhtsa is looking at the problem and wanted you to have the information. *tr

Since new, this vehicle has had an issue with a loss of power when accelerating hard. the latest incident, this past october, occurred at approximately 80000 miles. plugs were bad prematurely and found that it was caused by water build up in a cac for the turbo chargers and there was a tsb. i was passing a car and lost power almost creating an accident. this time, fortunately, a light stayed on so they could diagnose the issue. the dealer did an update per the tsb but ford refused to pay for the update due to the miles even though this issue has occurred numerous times before the warranty had expired. i am disappointed that the nhtsa did not make the recall mandatory in their previous investigation as i believe water being injected into an engine causing a power loss at a time power is called upon is dangerous. *tr

Vehicle stalls out like it is starving for fuel when you need to accelerate. it has stalled out when passing other vehicles and when entering heavy traffic on interstates. as of july 31, 2014, the truck has been back to the dealership at least 4 times for this problem. however, i continue to have the problem. *tr

During passing or pulling out in traffic the truck will loose power and misfire this is dangerous because you never know when it will do it. this weekend i was pulling a camper in the rain and it done it five times you have to pull over on the highway and start over when there is no one in sight and also try stopping on the interstate in the rain and pray no one hits you with your family in the vehicle. and this truck has been to the dealer fifteen times for repairs with only 15,000 miles on it. *tr

I was driving my 2011 ford f-150 4x4 with the 3.5 liter ecoboost engine on hwy 12 in buxton, n.c. and i went to pass a driver, accelerating from approximately 40 mph to 55 mph and the engine bogged and lost all power. i continued to hit the gas for about another second and the wheels then locked up and the truck had several violent jerking motions before coming to a complete stop. the engine would not turn back on for an hour. i had it towed to the ford dealership (under warranty) and they reset the computer. the truck seemed to run ok in the time since then, with the exception of the occasional shuddering during hard acceleration. now (december 2013) the truck will not accelerate at higher than 2,000 rpm when in 4th, 5th or 6th gear without shuddering and cutting power to the engine. the check engine light begins to flash during this and then turns off. ford is not willing to cover the repair costs and despite speaking to several customer service representatives, no one at ford has acknowledged this issue happening with any other vehicles. *tr

A muffled noise and shake is consistent when switching gears between 3-4-5. on a recent road trip there was hesitation when i accelerated to 65mph. *tr

Driving down a two lane road in the early evening, i was 3 or 4 cars back in a long line of over a dozen vehicles. we were all stuck behind one slow moving vehicle. a chance came up to pass and i pulled into the other lane. after stepping on the throttle the truck developed a misfire. it lost nearly all power and began decelerating. in the time since pulling out to pass, a semi truck had popped up over an upcoming hill. by this point, the vehicles previously behind me had moved forward and filled in my place in line. i began evaluating my options. i was now moving slower than the traffic in the right lane, but there weren't any openings to move back over. i examined the shoulder on the left side of the road looking for safe places to pull over. there were none in the immediate vicinity. after several very tense seconds, the vehicle suddenly regained power. i had just enough time to accelerate to an opening in the right lane and get back over. likely cause: condensation in the charge air cooler ingested into the engine upon a call for power. since the first incident this has occurred several more times. every single time has been after cruising for some period at less than half throttle, followed by a sudden acceleration in humid or rainy conditions. ford claims to be aware of the problem and working on a fix. however after waiting for over 8 months since my first incident i'm starting to have my doubts. i have heard reports from numerous other people saying this exact same thing has happened to them. some of those are over a year old and are still waiting on a fix from ford. being aware of this problem i try not to put myself into a situation that will require the sudden application of power. however i know no matter how well you plan, eventually you find yourself in a bad situation. i just hope when that occurs it isn't a humid or rainy day. *tt
