Problems with 2011 Ford F-150 ENGINE

On average, the 2011 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 53 463 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Ford F-150

Returning home from a weekend camping trip with my family and pulling a travel trailer via i-81 in va, i depressed the accelerator approaching a long hill, and abruptly lost all engine and drive power, the engine shuddered violently, the transmission downshifted to lower gear and the check engine light flashed a few times. we had absolutely no power and i thought the engine was going to shut off. i was in the 2nd lane from the right and had to quickly move to the right lane then to the shoulder to avoid being hit from behind. this was very dangerous while pulling a 34' travel trailer. i had to pull the vehicle to the shoulder and stop completely to regain control. i had to put the truck in park and turn it off before it returned to somewhat normal drivability. while continuing to climb the uphill grade, the engine misfired and hesitated constantly. i could only apply gently pressure to the accelerator to keep the vehicle moving. once over the hill the vehicle picked up speed and returned to normal drivability for the remainder of the trip. the same exact problem occurred again a few months later while driving south on rt-4 in md with my wife, and not pulling a trailer. this time i didn't shut the engine off, but had to pull to the shoulder to regain control and engine power. as i continued on rt4 the engine misfired and hesitated several more miles. once at my destination i turned the vehicle off, then upon departure the vehicle operated more normal, but experienced misfire and hesitations several mile returning home. the next day the vehicle operated normally, but i took it to the ford dealership to have it repaired. this is a very unsafe situation and makes me very leary driving this vehicle on a normal basis. if i was accelerating while crossing the highway and this problem happened, there is a great chance of getting into an accident or causing one. *tr

While accelerating up a hill, the engine began to misfire and would not accelerate properly and actually slowed while the service engine light blinked. i was forced to pull off the highway, shut the engine off and restarted. the check engine light did not re-light and i continued on normally until attempting to pass a vehicle when the same malfunction occurred. this happened repeatedly over the past 3 months while attempting hard acceleration until it was returned to the dealer for repairs. the dealer installed a "deflector" to prevent moisture from entering the turbo or aftercooler and reprogrammed the computer. upon leaving the dealer, it was evident that the repairs did not work and the problem became worse. the engine misfires constantly resulting in an unsafe vehicle. *tr

The vehicle experienced a rough idle then upon acceleration, severe shuddering and lack of power. check engine light turned on and began flashing. vehicle is equipped with a 3.5l gtdi engine. vehicle then continued to experience complete lack of power and shudder while being driven to the dealership. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 62 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently and decrease speed. the check engine light illuminated simultaneously. the vehicle was not taken for inspection or repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Departed eureka, ca at 1600 in heavy rain on friday september 20, 2013. eureka to redding ca on highway 299. rain was heavy for about 100 miles northbound on highway 299. at about the 100 mile mark, i attempted to pass another vehicle (sudden acceleration) when the engine began to rapidly lose power and the truck started to shake violently and shudder. the engine light on the dash began to flash. at first i thought it was a flat tire. because i was in "the middle of nowhere" i continued on towards weaverville. i was climbing a steep hill, slowly and the truck continued to shake and shudder for about 6 miles until i got to the top of oregon hill (summit). when i reached the top, i put the truck in neutral and carefully coasted down the hill. within 2 miles (of coasting and the road is dry now) the flashing engine light went off and the truck appeared to return to normal operation. after this, i continued my travel to reno, nevada and had no further problems. the truck is running fine right now. *js

During acceleration to merge onto the highway, my f-150 lost power. the engine began to sputter, the check engine light illuminated, and the truck lost power. an 18-wheeler behind me had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting my vehicle as i moved it to the shoulder of the road. i took the vehicle into the ford dealership and they performed tsb13-8-1. as of today (4/28/2014), the issue has not been resolved. i just took my truck back into the dealership to have another tsb performed. this time, i had to pay $100 because my powertrain warranty had expired. my main concern is that the tsb's that ford is issuing are inadequate. i have been told that the cause of power loss is moisture that builds up inside the intercooler. the last fix was to place a piece of plastic over the intercooler in an attempt to raise internal temperatures and prevent moisture from building up. it did not work...and my mpg went down by 1.8 (average) with the fix. my main concern is that ford will continue to release inadequate solutions to this problem, and once my esp has run out, i will be left with a truck that doesn't work and with no other choice but to pay for expenses 100% out of pocket. hopefully something is done to prevent this from happening. i am not a very satisfied customer at this time. *js

Truck frequently goes into limp mode/stalls. this has happened at various speeds, times, terrain, etc all over the country both with and without our camper attached and both with and without tow-haul engaged. i've taken it to the dealer numerous times and each time they've updated the software according to some tsb that's been released. i've had the deflector put on, cam changed, and now they're replacing the throttle body. *tr

While accelerating to 75mph or so, up slight hill from 65-70 mph went to pass a vehicle then truck lost vast majority of power even with all the way down and began to violently shake. could have easily cause accident since wasn't abble to accelerate as planned to match speed of other lane. check engine light came on. truck continued to shake violently off and on for next mile before stopping. problem is still ongoing under any moderate acceleration that goes over ~2000 rpm

Truck has a 36 gallon gas tank. fuel gauge does not go to full when filled. while driving fuel gauge goes to empty and message center comes on low fuel 10 miles to empty. tank still has 20 gallons or more in tank. when filling with gas after this happens there is a high pressure release of gas fumes from the filler neck when pump nozzle is placed in the neck. an audible whoosh sound is made and the build up of gas fumes is consistent with every time the gauge and message center think the tank is empty. when starting the truck after this occurrence it takes 2-3 tries before the engine will start. the engine malfunction indicator lamp will come on for 3-20 minutes before going off. the ford vehicle health report reads "engine, transmission, amp; emissions. the truck has been serviced 8 times with no corrective results. my major concern is the build up of fumes and the possibility of fire. it appears that ford has known of this problem with trucks having 36 gallon tanks since 2008 based on comments from other owners when i googled my problem. to this date ford does not appear to have a solution to the problem. *tr

Was on the interstate just west of st. louis, driving at 70 mph. was a damp rainy day. pulled in to the passing lane to pass a semi and truck lost power, went into "limp mode" with check engine light on. i pulled back into my lane and then off to the shoulder. turned the truck off and sat for 5 - 10 minutes. when i powered it back up, the check engine light was off. i was able to pull back onto the highway and had full power for the rest of my trip. this is the third time this problem has occurred with this truck. both other incidents were in damp or rainy weather at highway speeds when passing or merging onto highway. *jb

On i-20 east headed to augusta, ga from alabama i pulled into the left lane to pass and the engine starts sputtering, skipping and lost almost all power. it happened 3 times yesterday. it was in a light rain and since there was light traffic i was able to slow down and get the engine to recover each time. this could be a real danger in heavy traffic. i tested it again this morning (08/18) and if you try to accelerate quickly it just about shuts down until you let off. *tr

On august 11 2013,after about 2hrs of driving my 2011 ford f150 with the ecoboost engine at a constant 72 mph i was coming out of a toll booth when the truck started to shudder and lose power this happened for about a minute, the truck regained power and continued.coming home on august 18th,again after alittle over 2 hours of driving,i went to pass slower traffic when the heavy shake, stutter and power loss happen.traffic behind almost ran me over .the stuttering/loss of power continued for about 3mins,in which i could not get to the side of the road and almost got my wife and i rear ended.ford motor company has had many tsb for a possible fix on the 3.5l ecoboost engine but they have not worked.please help us before someone get killed. *tr

Went on a 350 mile trip, i was at a stop light and when i went to accelerate the truck lost all power. i have one of the ecoboost engines. the engine did fix itself and i continued with no other problem, this is the first time i experienced this problem. 2011 ford f150 king ranch. *tr

While traveling a two lane hwy, on rt 81 from tennessee to virginia in the early hours of the morning , we were pulling our 24 foot camping trailer, we were behind a tt unit and there was a tt unit behind us , we were all attempting to pass a slower mv in the right hand lane, when i tried to accelerate the truck shuddered and the engine completely went limp, the engine light came on and we were barley able to make it to the side of the road, and prevent an accident ,. when we did get to the side of the road the engine light continued to flash and the truck was not running.. *tr

Had a car pull into my lane, tried to accelerate to move over with out causing a dangerousness situation of a car coming up in the lane i needed to be in to avoid the idiot moving into my lane but car lost power. thankfully the car in the next lane over saw the issues with the car moving over into me and gave me room, i'm sure they didn't expect my car to slowdown due to the loss of power. this car has the ecoboost engine 3.7 liter

Loss of significant power under slight to moderate acceleration, engine shutters violently, shakes and miss-fires. check engine light flashes. engine seems to run on 50% power loss, letting off accelerator for awhile then engine seems to recover temporarily until additional power is needed. unable to have any confidence to pass any vehicles on grades. quite possible for complete power loss under full acceleration as the engine misses so bad that it actually slows down and looses rpm's. i have owned this truck since new. symptoms started in dry climate, no rain and have continued to get worse as i have entered into rainy areas with humidity. *tr

When mild-accelerating to get to the highway speed limit of 75 my ford f150 ecoboost started shaking at 55 mph and at 2,500 rpm my truck starts shaking and was unable to control. i had to exit the highway and drive at a lower speed i figured it was another engine misfire that i had replaced recently on 8/2/13. i then proceed to try again on the freeway and at 55pmh it again started to shake and rattle cause me to drive on the feeder road for the remainder of my trip to work. *tr

Engine misses at times of hard acceleration. engine ecoboost. *tr

Attempted to pass a car. speed at time of attempt was 55mph. time 2:20 p.m. and partly cloudy. two lane road but had plenty of time to pass or an accident could have occurred. pushed down on accelerator and the engine actually decreased speed/significant deceleration. i let up on gas pedal, maintained speed then was gradually able to pass. think the turbo had stalled. this had happened once before, shortly after i purchased the truck. at that time i was merging onto interstate and it stalled out, for a shorter duration. after the july 31 incident, i took the truck to ford to inquire about the issues some owners have had on the eco boast engine, which i have. no codes appeared so i was told they couldn't do anything. then talked to regional customer service and got the same story. i am very concerned as i use the truck to tow a 26' trailer. when the eco boast turbo works, i have plenty of power to merge or pass. the above experience was scary and i did not have the trailer behind me at the time. now i feel i can not reasonably depend on it to work as it should. i think it is the turbo but it could be the electronic gas pedal, or the transmission but i really do not think these are the issue. please help! thank you.

Second occurrence of the engine losing power while towing a camper over 100+ miles at highway speeds then adding power to climb a hill. driving 65 mph on the highway, over a 1.5-2 hrs drive, approaching a hill while towing a camper, accelerated to climb the hill and the vehicle again, dropped from 65 to 40 mph in about 30 seconds. engine stuttered and would not respond to throttle control to gain speed to climb the hill. took vehicle into dealership no problem found, about a week later, there was an inefficient catalytic requiring the replacement of the left catalytic converter. this occurred post having the ecoboost fix that ford motor company stated would resolve the problem and it is still occurring. odbc 2 data logger captured the incident recording engine speed, engine rpm, and engine load (%). *tr

This truck has a very bad habit of loosing power and throttle response after driving for extended periods in heavy rain/high humidity. this problem occurred the second day i owned this truck (original owner) and has happened several more times over the past 2 years. the most recent time it occurred i was merging onto the highway and the truck started to shake and lost all power, i ran out of room to merge and had to steer to the right of a vehicle that was in the break down lane...i had nowhere to go! my dealer has attempted the service bulletin to correct this condition but to no avail. 3.5l ecoboost is a hazard to operate under the above listed condition not only to myself but other people on the highway! *tr

On several occasions and more frequently as of lately, i am losing acceleration capability when i am trying to accelerate at any speed. when i try to accelerate from a stop or uphill, i feel like the engine won't go or is bogging down. to try and compensate, i try to accelerate more which only seems to make the problem worse. i have already taken it to the ford dealer and they replaced a part on the transmission, but the problem still persists and is only get more frequent. *jb

Ecoboost engine. loud clattering on cold start. runs very rough, exhibits propensity to stall when idling, and very sluggish acceleration coupled with transmission issues. example 1: coasting on the freeway with traffic around 40mph, shifted lanes, then made attempt to accelerate and pass another vehicle, but the vehicle did not downshift. accelerator will be down to the floor, and truck will remain stuck in a low gear (like 6th) and go nowhere...zero acceleration...after a few more tries, and a few seconds later, the transmission will slam into 2nd gear, shaking the entire truck. at this point, the turbos kick in and the truck takes off like a rocket. creates 2 dangerous situations, a potential rear-end accident by the lane change without acceleration, and then the sudden, rapid, unpredictable acceleration of being randomly thrown into 2nd gear. seen various other incidents like this in other scenarios and various gears. accelerating out of a traffic circle, or out of a turn, is an easy way to see the problem. truck has basically lost its ability to accelerate/downshift on demand. example 2: stopped at a stop sign. when i then proceed into intersection...acceleration is very slow, then all of a sudden turbos kick in resulting in rapid unpredictable acceleration. often times, the wheels will spin, and if the road is dry, the truck will bounce up and down all over the road! accelerator will in the same position the entire time. i have rapidly accelerated towards cars that i didn't want to get that close to. i now have to stay even further away from cars to maintain a safe distance due to unpredictable acceleration. frustrating, because the problem is frequent now, but inconsistent. i have 2 kids in booster seats, and now i have to be especially careful when i drive with them in this truck because i feel it's unsafe. *tr

While merging into traffic on the expressway today in miami, at about 35 mph, i had to accelerate to get out of the merging lane, at which time (for the third time since i bought the truck in 2011) the truck lost all power to the engine (a 3.5l ecoboost) and began to sputter, shake, and decelerate. luckily for myself and the other drivers on the road i did leave a sufficient gap between myself and the car to my rear to give that vehicle time to react to what equates to a vehicle pulling out in front of him/her and gently pressing the brakes without the brake lights engaging. my truck hovered between 25 and 30 mph for about 30 seconds with it doing the sputtering and slowing thing each time i attempted to accelerate during that time period. after pretty much coasting for 30 or so seconds, the truck sprang back to life and drove as advertised. from what i've read, this is not an isolated incident and i (as well as others) believe ford should be held accountable for this defect. i'm not looking for a new truck, i'd just like the problem fixed. even though no deaths or injuries have been reported due to this "yet", you can see the danger of having your engine loose power when you need it the most. unfortunately for their customers, all ford seems to be concerned with is the loss of a buck......not the loss of a life!!! While traveling to florida with family on vacation just coming out of mountains of tennessee went to pass a 18 wheeler hit gas was going 60 truck started shaking slowing down had traffic behind no cel light or any other warning light on let off gas three times before i could accelerate normal again then happened again in florida on i 75 on ramp had to let off two times before could accelerate. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated while he attempted to merge into highway traffic at 65 mph the vehicle hesitated and failed to accelerate without warning. the contact was able to avoid two near crashes and drive safely onto the emergency lane. the loss of power failure was also previously experienced while driving 50 mph and the wrench light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 20,000.

Traveling on 4 lane highway during period of train, accelerated to pass vehicles, my truck eco-boost motor acceleration stagnated and vehicle began to shutter, was unable to pass, decelerated and stagnation stopped. incident occurred when ever i tried to accelerated during active rain during a 9 hour interstate trip. *tr

As described in nhtsa action number pe13018- hard acceleration and the engine misfired while trying to pass a vehicle on a highway. *tr

We were traveling on a two lane road. we were following a slow moving tractor trailer. we had been traveling for about 3 hours. it had rained earlier and was humid. i accelerated to pass and was partially around the truck when the engine of my truck started misfiring and lost power. luckily, i was able to limp it along and get back into my lane before having a problem with oncoming traffic. the motor in my truck is the 3.5 liter ecoboost. i have seen reports of this happening to this motor, but this is the first time it happened so dramatically to mine. i don't recall having traveled for any distance in these conditions with this truck. the truck is scheduled to have this problem looked at. it was explained to me that there are different repairs depending on how the truck is equipped. this was a very dangerous event and i believe this should have been taken care of before the incident happened. i have read of a possible recall of the trucks with these motors to rectify the problem. it is evident to me that this needs to be done before someone isn't as lucky as we were. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the inter cooler had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 3,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently. the contact was able to merge to the shoulder of the roadway and regain acceleration power. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000. *tr

Was high speed accelerating in nj from one hwy to another. long on-ramp. during acceleration from about 40-45mph to get to 65 highway speed, the truck acceleration stopped truck shook, speed declined and the check engine light came on. i let off accelerator and 3-4 seconds later shaking stopped and check engine went off. i slowly came back on with accelerator and issue stopped. weather conditions was rainy/wet/humid about 60f ~ 1000am. this is 3rd time has happened. first time was shortly after receiving truck new in 2011 ~ april in same conditions and second time about 1 year after that. first time and this time i took to local ford dealer and they found no codes. this recent i also started losing mpg from normally ~16.9 mpg and down to 12 mpg now. dealer said they relayed info to ford and said replace spark plugs as no codes. i have others who have same truck bought for a company fleet with sequential vin's that have had same issue and had catalytic converters replaced. my dealer said ford refused. *tr

It was raining very hard, and i had a cell phone call come in. i was on i-75 southbound. i pulled off the road to take the call. after approximately 15 minutes, i put the truck in "drive" and started to pull back onto i-75. at about 25 mph, i pressed the accelerator to the floor, and it sounded like the turbo waste gate opened fully. the truck stopped moving forward and began to shake very hard. there were 2 semi's coming toward me honking their horns. i released the accelerator and steered toward the shoulder of the road again. the truck limped off the highway, still shaking, but with less vigor. after approximately 2 minutes, the idle smoothed out somewhat, and eventually the truck ran smoothly. it took about 5 minutes. i took the truck to brondes ford in maumee to have it checked. i had an appointment friday, june 14. when i explained what had happened, the service advisor said she would have to check with her boss. she came back and told me there was nothing they could do, because no code lights were on and the truck wasn't doing it now. i asked if they could run a diagnostic and she said "no, bring it when it's doing it, and we'll check it". if it happens in front of 2 semi's again, i may not be able to bring it in! i could have been killed! i can't believe they refused to even run a diagnostic on it! this is a serious issue in my mind, but brondes ford does not seem to feel it is a problem. *tr

The first time this happened, my husband was pulling out into a center turn lane in order to merge with traffic and the motor cut out and bogged down. just four days later, i had the same experience where the motor completely cut out while i was going through a yield sign, slowing down, and then getting on the accelerator to increase speed. i counted between 3-5 seconds before the truck started accelerating again. this is very dangerous and had someone been right behind me it could've been a bad wreck. it happened to me this first time right after i picked my truck up from the dealership and them telling me my vin didn't qualify for the tsb with replacing the cac (intercooler) and adding the air deflector plate. i have since gone to a second dealership and they are performing the tsb for me after having my truck for 5 days now, and being able to reproduce the problem easily. i hope this fixes it. i've already had a check engine light come on and my driver's side catalytic converter was replaced. i've had numerous leaks all under the 36,000 mile warranty - front main seal, transmission leak, rear diff leak, and even some deteriorating rubber gaskets in the doors, and am seriously questioning ford's quality these days. *tr

While attempting to accelerate back to highway speeds after slowing down for a car leaving the highway, my truck lost power and started to shutter. the engine light was flashing and i was unable to maintain highway speeds. i exited the highway and after about 2-3 minutes i was able to accelerate normally. conditions were wet and the temperature was around 70f. *tr

There is a problem with the engine misfiring at moderate to hard acceleration. this really bothers me. as i have talked with ford mechanics i have been told that ford has no fix for this problem. from what i have read and studied, this is a problem with condensation in the intercooler making its way to he injectors. once you put your foot on the gas pedal to accelerate you experience a sometimes violent stutter and the vehicle not accelerating but instead sounding like it's going to explode. i have also heard this happens when its humid outside. regardless, one day i'm going to need to accelerate away or from something and the truck is going to fail, causing me to get hit or killed. i have found fixes to the problems including a full race intercooler, plugs and wires, however i don't think i should have to spend over $1000 for something ford released knowing it wasn't ready, or up to par. i've owned my vehicle for over a year now and its 0% better even using top octane fuel. please help... *tr

We just took our f150 (ecoboost v-6) on vacation. on more than one occasion we were trying to accelerate to pass other vehicle's and we lost all power. we merged into the passing lane as we were accelerating and when i applied more throttle we lost speed and power. after this happened once we tried to duplicate it when we on the interstate and pretend we were going to pass other cars. the power loss happened about 50% of the time. furthermore, this happened when we were just trying to get on the interstate via an on ramp and get up to speed. i did not "floor it" to get on the interstate, i did a more aggressive acceleration and the pickup shuttered and lost power. i asked ford today (june 5th) if they had a recall on the vehicle and they said they might have an update, but nothing was certain. i consider this a serious safety hazard and we will not be driving the vehicle any more than we have to until this issue get resolved. i wasn't performing perfectly timed passes (we were on the interstate so there was no oncoming traffic) but this could be dangerous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while at a stop and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnosis. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 13,000. *tr

Accelerating onto interstate from on ramp, sudden loss of power, vehicle shuddered, lost power and speed. vehicles around me on interstate had to swerve to avoid hitting truck. truck gradually regained speed over next 1/4 to 1/2 mile. approximately 24 hours and 400 miles later the check engine light came on. *tr

Vehicle shut off going up hill weather cold and damp took truck to dealer on 5/20/13 found nothing wrong . on 5/25/13 vehicle shut off 11 times while accelerating. drove vehicle on mon may 27 shut off 9 times and we were nearly run over by semi on interstate. engine light came on on tuesday may 28 drove to dealer with vehicle shutting off over 10 times. vehicle is a liability as well as a safety hazard for driver as well as other drivers. *tr

I was driving to florida in my 2011 f150 ecoboost and on the highway at about 65 mph my truck started stalling and lost power miss firing and would not go over 10 mph causing me to pull over on the shoulder . i then turned the truck off and back on 10 mins later and it began to run fine agian. i took it to ford and they say no engine codes went off so they did not know why it would do that. *tr

Same as previously reported by many others: misfire upon acceleration up a hill; reported to dealer who found no error codes. happened again soon after, this time activating engine warning light. dealer replaced cylinder coil; next day, same type of misfire occurrence. very unsafe situation, costing me lots of time and money. in addition, this eccoboost, as i have reported to ford since it was new, has never achieved even close to rated mpg, only averaging 14 mpg or 40% less than advertised. vehicle now back at livermore ford, where technician was asked by service dept to drive unit home hooked into computer to see if problem can be diagnosed. this is an unacceptable and unsafe situation. not happy. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving at any speed, the vehicle shook, lost power, and slowed down without warning when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the engine warning light illuminated. the contact stated there was a recall and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the recall information was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the steering wheel shook violently. the vehicle also lost power and decelerated independently. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and as it proceeded to perform without further incident. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 41,000....updated 07-15-13 *bf the consumer stated the manufacturer advised to continue to drive the vehicle until the failure recurs then, immediately take the vehicle to the dealer in order to record any codes that maybe stored. updated 07/18/2013 *js

I recently saw where the nhtsa was investigating performance issues (bogging down, hesitation) of fords ecoboost 3.5l v6. i have had this problem along with severe downshifting when decelerating causing skidding and loss of control in wet or icy conditions. i reported this problem to tony frederick vp ford customer service who sent a factory rep to look at this and other issues. was told vehicle was functioning normally. the hesitation when accelerating for me occurs regularly. i do not believe its isolated to wet or humid conditions. *tr

Traveling on i 20 during heavy rain , got off interstate to refuel and after reentering interstate accelerated to get back to highway speed and truck stalled went to shaking real bad and engine light came on. would not accelerate just shook real bad and i pulled over turned it off for a few minutes and restarted and continued on. no more issues once the rain stopped. *tr

An example of what happens is this: traveling along at 45mph, and pull out to overtake a slower vehicle, you accelerate aggressively. upon doing this, the truck seems to stumble like it's hunting for the appropriate gear (@ about 45- 50mph). also, it feels like an engine mis-fire. it's a disconcerting feeling that the truck does not accelerate as it should when you need it the most. *tr

As we were driving through lexington kentucky on rt 75 north, towing our enclosed car trailer with our mustang inside. it was raining pretty hard and there were 4 lanes of traffic on a rather steep grade, the truck went into limp mode as we attempted to change lanes on the freeway to allow traffic to merge from an on ramp. i had just read about a few incidents where this same thing had happened to others before we had left on this trip. the truck dropped to about 30 miles per hour, i had to maneuver to the right shoulder in heavy traffic towing a 20' long trailer in a heavy rain storm. we stopped the truck, shut it off, as described in the forums i had read about this same problem, and let it set for about 15 minutes. it restarted fine and ran good the rest of the way back to ohio. when we returned home i took the truck into the dealership we purchased it from and they said because the computer showed no codes there was nothing wrong with the truck, i was prepared for that with the articles that i had read and i said fix it or i'll file a suit against the dealership and ford! the mileage had dropped from about 16-17 mpg in the city to about 11 mpg in the city, it took them supposedly until august to "get the parts in" so far it's been fine but i haven't had an opportunity to duplicate the situation again. *js

When i'm accelerating the engine stalls, i may be leaving a stop sign climbing over an overpass or passing another slower vehicle. seems to happen more often about 40mph to 70mph. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f150. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle vibrated and lost acceleration power without warning. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. the coils spring was replaced several times; however the failure was not corrected. the vehicle continued to vibrate and would also stall without warning. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 108,163. the vin was not available.
