After auto starting my truck on the morning of december 14 2016. upon departing my house, i heard a loud popping noise. however i was not able to verify where it came from until i arrived at my destination. i noticed a pattern on my sliding rear window on the drivers side. upon further investigation i discovered the window was shattered all though it was still in one piece. while researching methods of repair i discovered that this has happened over 70 times.in previous complaints it has been said that this could possibly be attributed to faulty construction or an electrical system failure that could cause a fire. i feel this is a driving hazard for both driver and occupants due to the possibility of minute glass fragments getting in eyes and causing injury and possibly a fatal accident. therefore i feel that an immediate recall is necessary. people have lodged complaints since 2010 until present. injury would occur if the window was to blow out causing injury or accident to other vehicles or persons following mine or others vehicles (motorcyclist). *tr

Husband used remote start to warm-up 2011 f-150 while leaving work. temperatures were in the 20's. after driving about a mile down the road, he noticed that the back window had shattered / spider-webbed on the passenger section. this is a 3 section back glass, with the sliding window. ford dealership unresponsive to inquiry, but that is normal for this dealership. we paid out of pocket to replace the back glass / window. *tr

A week or two before the incident i noticed that the light on the rear defrost button no longer turned on when the rear defrost button was pressed. i wasn't sure if the rear defrost was working or not. on the morning of the incident it was cool outside and the windows were frosty. i pressed the rear defrost button after starting the truck and it once again did not light up. i started driving to work with my two kids in the back seat. after driving a couple miles i heard a loud noise as if something had hit the truck. i looked in all the mirrors to find what had hit the truck and noticed that the passenger side of the rear window had shattered. it hadn't fallen out of the frame, but was spider-webbed throughout. when i took the truck to the dealer the service manager said he had seen 5 other 2010-2011 f-150's just this winter with the exact same issue. this should be considered a safety issue. from other complaints that i've read the window does sometimes shatter out of the frame and into the cab of the truck. if it had done so in this instance it would have fallen in the face of my 11-month old son sitting directly under it. *tr

Used automatic starter today around 4:30pm. the temp today was in the 20s here in western maryland. while driving home i noticed the rear window passenger side panel was completely shattered. upon inspection there was no impact area. just the entire panel was very spider webbed. i will be contacting ford before i file an insurance claim. this is absolutely a defect with the design of these windows. ford needs to recall these before a child gets injured from shattered glass. my kids heads are very close to this glass. i'm sure if this happened when traveling at a high speed it could cause any injury. ford needs to step up and address this before it becomes a big lawsuit. *js

I was driving to the gym about 10 minutes from my house. when i got there, i put my truck in park, turned it off, gathered my things, and then heard this crazy loud popping/cracking noise. the rear passenger side window just shattered!!! i have a 2011 f-150 with a rear window defroster and power sliding rear window. this is the first winter i have lived somewhere cold and used that rear defroster, which per searching online for answers, appears to be the culprit. i also talked to a few glass companies when calling around for quotes to replace the window and they all said i'm not the first f-150 owner with the same problem. grrr. there are a couple dozen other complaints out there too for the exact same thing for the exact same window all because of a stupid rear defroster glitch. this is ridiculous! i had the window looked at to see if something had hit it and caused it to shatter but there was no evidence of this so i'm blaming the p.o.s. defroster. the window blew out on my way back home so there was shattered glass in the back of my bed. only $600 to get it fixed. no big deal.. not! happy birthday to me! >=[ and that was the cheapest quote. i had quotes from $600-$950. oy. this is b.s. also, the design of this rear window is terrible when it comes to replacing it. as i have recently found out, you cannot replace the left or right rear window by themselves. if the left and/or right window shatters (because of a crappy defroster or other crappy reasons) you have to replace the entire rear window, hence the $600 bill for one broken window. it the middle window breaks you can replace that by itself but if the window on either side breaks, you are s.o.l. i called a few dealerships too to see if they could do anything. nope. nobody gave a hoot. boo ford, boo. i was so happy with my truck until this. once again, >=[ *tr

I was driving into work had put my defroster on for the back window about 15 minutes later it sounded like something hit the roof i got to work looked at the roof then noticed my back right rear passenger window was shattered it's a electric sliding window and my infants car seat is placed right in front of that window that shattered i have seen numerous complaints my brother in law has same truck and same happened to him i called ford and they are totally unwilling to help in anyway if i replace this window the same can happen and glass can hit my son cause injuries. *tr

My passenger side rear window shattered yesterday in my 2011 f150 with $87,500 miles on it! the light on the rear defrost button has recently quit working. anyways it was pouring rain yesterday when i left my hunting club and my windows were fogged up. i pushed the button to see if the light would magically start working and it didn't. after that i forgot about it until 3/4 of the way home when i heard a loud pop like a rock hitting the windshield. shortly thereafter i noticed the rear glass looked like a spider web. anyways i took it to my local dealership who is usually good about helping me out but they said ford wouldn't do anything and told me to take it to a auto glass store. the temperature out side was 47 degrees f and it was raining when it occurred. *tr

Truck was parked in driveway on a cold 20 degree morning and when the rear defrost was activated the rear cab window cracked and spiderwebbed most likely due to the heat from a defective heating element in the defrost system. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the heat from the defroster caused the rear window to fracture. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000. updated 12/22/14*lj updated 9/28/2015 *js

We bought 2011 ford f150 xlt supercrew cab on october 25, 2014. last wednesday night, november 5, 2014, i was driving home with our two kids and turned on the rear window defroster. the light indicator didn't come on quickly. a minute or so later, popping noises came from the back cab and found out that rear right window was shattered (the right side of three pieces rear window power sliding system). faulty rear window defroster might be the cause. waiting for dealership to see if their 90 day warranty will cover windshield replacement. *tr

This afternoon i got into my vehicle. after starting my vehicle i then proceeded to turn my rear defroster on. once i turned my rear defroster on i heard a loud pop and then noticed that my rear window was shattered. i believe that their is a defect in the rear defroster of my 2011 ford f-150 because this same incident has happened before. *tr

Rear defroster would not work. 5 minutes later it came on for just a second and all of a sudden there was a loud bang and the window on the right side of the rear next to the slider shattered. after doing more research, i discovered that is has happened before on the 2011 fords but there hasn't been any recall. this is dangerous. thank you *tr

We started having issues with the rear defroster not working on the power sliding rear window. after a short period of time after pushing button to power the rear defrost smoke was noticeable coming from the lower part of the rear window on the passenger side of the cab. i then pushed the rear defrost button to turn off the power looked back into the rear view mirror to see if the smoke would stop and saw the window fracture as i was looking at it. *tr

Driving to work on a crisp fall morning in october 2014, i put the rear window defogger on. about 10 minutes later, i heard a loud pop that sounded like one of my windows had been shot out. i stopped to investigate and discovered that my right rear window had shattered (spider-like cracks throughout though still intact). i understand that this has occurred on scores of ford f-150s. luckily i was only driving 35 as any faster and i might have lost control due to the fright. when is nhtsa going to do something about this? or do about a dozen people have to die first before any action is taken? *tr

The passenger (ps) section of the rear window shattered without warning & without any external damage to the window. there was a slight frost on the windows & the vehicle was started and the rear window defroster button was depressed and would not activate. as the vehicle was driven at 25 miles per hour an loud pop noise was heard. the vehicle pulled off to the side of the road & it was noticed that the ps section of the rear window was completely shattered. the ford dealership the vehicle was purchased from was contact to see if there were any bulletins for this issue. the dealership advised that there was no bulletins for this issue however, they have seen this issue multiple times & directed me to call the ford motor company customer service line to file a complaint. the dealership also mentioned that the rear window that needed to be replaced was on back order & that additional repair locations should be contacted to replace the glass if immediate repair was needed. two additional repair locations were contacted, both of them had the rear glass on back order. a call was placed to the ford motor company customer service line with this compliant, direction was given that ford motor company was not do anything for this issue & that the incident should be reported to the insurance company for repair. the incident was reported to the insurance company & the deductible was paid to have the rear window replaced. the insurance company repair location also was aware & replaced several rear windows for this vehicle due to unexpected shattering with no external impact, some of the repairs were repeat repairs . the location also advised that the probable reason for the shattering was due to the heater element in the glass over heating overtime causing window failure & that it was possible the failure was going to happen again. *js

I pressed the rear window defrost button and it didn't light up, so i pressed it again and no light. i left my truck for about an hour and when i came back my rear passenger window was shattered. *tr

Tl* the contact own a 2011 ford f 150. the contact stated when he turned on his rear window defogger, the passenger side of the rear window shattered. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,500.

It was about 12 degrees out this morning when i put on my rear window defroster on my 2011 f150 supercrew. after about 5 minutes of driving, i head a loud bang come from the rear of the truck. i pulled over to see what had happened and notice that the rear window exploded and shattered into tiny pieces.nothing had hit the window, it was from the change in temperature. the back window had no previous cracks or scrathers so i saw no reason for it to react to the change in heat. luckily noone was in the back seat when this happened. *tr

I started my vehicle on the morning of feb 8th,and turned on the rear defroster. within 1-2 minutes i heard a pop noise and found the glass panel behind the drivers side (one of 3 glass panels) had shattered. no outside impact,it just shattered. i see doing an on-line search there are similar complaints of this problem. i contacted ford motor company and was told seeing as i was out of basic warranty, they would not be able to assist me with the cost of repairs. $625.00 + tax. *tr

It was a cold morning in michgan and i turned on the rear defroster and started to work about 4 blocks from my house i heard what sounded like a gun shot. i could not see anything wrong at the time as it was dark. i proceeded to work as normal and when i came out to go home i noticed that the right rear glass in the rear window was shattered. there was shatter glass in the passenger seat thank goodness my son wasn't setting there like normal. i contacted the dealer and he said it was not covered under warranty and it would be 1200.00 to fix. i have taped it up with a piece of plexiglass and am arguing with ford. i researched on-line and found numerous complaints and decided to report to you. *tr

While driving after 5 mins in the morning, heard a very loud bang. like a branch or rock hit the roof of the truck in the back passenger side. heard a crackling sound and the rear window on the passenger side had shattered. the window is divided into 1/3 and the 1/3 on the passenger side is shattered. all of the other windows appear to be ok. after some inspection, nothing hit the truck! i was driving in a open area, so nothing could have fallen on the truck from above. *js

Vehicle was parked in a parking lot. left side of rear window was shattered at the end of the day. the glass was obviously stressed by the heat and broke outwards ( pressure built inside of cab and pushed glass outwards). if someone was sitting in that seat and the glass shattered that person could get hurt/cut. looking on-line (google search) there are many instances of this happening. ford will not warranty issue claiming (outside forces) caused the issue. maybe you should never park your ford truck outside? *tr

I turned on rear defroster. i drove for 5-10 minutes and parked. i then heard a loud popping sound and saw that the rear passenger glass panel had cracked like a spider web on the inside. i felt the glass and it was warm. i searched the internet to see if this was a common problem and found that many people have had this exact problem: http://www.f150forum.com/f38/exploding-rear-window-145329/ my local ford dealership doesn't want to cover it even though ford appears to have covered it for many others. i have filed a complaint with ford corporate and am awaiting response from my local dealership. *tr

Well i have an issue with my trucks i have purchased from ford. well in august of 2011 i purchased the new f150 with ecoboost. the truck drove like a dream for a while then i started having issue, with the transmission, then engine losing power. this happen about 4 time during the life of the truck.the last time was in january 2013, it was the last straw for me. the reprogrammed the trans/computer and put a wind deflector in the front of the intercool. still lost power on a road trip on the way back home from s carolina. mind you the truck was in the shop for tran/engine/the right fender had to be adjusted it was misaligned, the bed of the truck same thing. this lost of power almost caused me to have a accident because i was merging onto the highway. i also had to sunroof replaced as it was vibrating the whole truck when moving. the driver seat track was replaced and the sliding glass window in the back was replaced too. the defrost stopped then the window stopped sliding. i stopped driving the truck so i could get rid of it i have a 2013 limited and have some of the same issue. now that i have a new 2013 vehicle i experience some of the same issue. *tr

The driver's side window was rolled all the way down and as i was driving it shattered inside the door. *tr
