Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Ford F-150

Fuel pump control module corrosion causing engine to stall and not restart while driving on secondary road. *tr

Truck stuttered & stalled, would not restart. towed ford to dealer. failure caused by corroded, cracked fuel pump module. the module body is made of an alloy metal material, and the module is bolted directly to the steel frame near the gas tank, moisture and dis-similar metals (electrolysis) caused rapid deterioration of module body. this poor design causes the vehicle to shut down at any speed/situation, loss of power steering & brakes would occur. result could be death of occupants or those persons around truck when engine shut down occurs *tr

I was traveling at approximately 55mph when the vehicle started to sputter, and as i began to slow down and tried to pull over to the side of the road before the truck quit on me. i tried to start it back up in order to get off the main road but the vehicle didn't start. i ended up having the vehicle towed to the local shop and after a diagnosis that cost $124.95 they found out that the fuel pump driver module when bad. the fuel pump driver module cost $234.44. so all together with parts, labor and tax it cost me $496.88 without including the cost to have the vehicle towed. the fuel pump driver module is bolted directly to the frame cross member, and with minnesota winters snow and road salt get trapped between the two parts. the part will eventually rust, crack, and then the fuel pump driver module goes bad. it was nice to see that the replacement part has a plastic housing with a couple spacers to move it away from the cross member to possibly eliminate this problem. ford had to know about a problem with this component otherwise they wouldn't have changed the design right? *tr

Vehicle engine suddenly shut down. the problem was the fuel control module, ford part # 9d370, aluminum casing corroded through exposing the internal circuit boards. this is a common occurrence for the 2004 through 2006 f150 and can cause a very dangerous situation if it shuts down while in traffic at highway speeds. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford f-150. the contact stated that while inside of the vehicle, she would smell gasoline fuel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the fuel injector needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 89,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford f-150. the contact stated that the fuel odor was present inside the cabin of the vehicle. the failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. the manufacturer was notified regarding the defect. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 84,000.

Went to start truck and engine would crank but would not fire. i tried the starting fluid test to see if it was an ignition problem or fuel problem. gave a little shot of starting fluid into the intake and then tried to start. motor acted like it was going to start but never started beings i didn't give it enough starting fluid to start because i'm not a fan of using it. with that i eliminated the ignition had to be fuel. i got on the internet and searched no start problem for 2006 f-150 and found a you tube video of the fuel pump control module rusting out. went out and dropped spare tire and took the control module off the cross member and noticed the hole corroded through the housing just like the video. i got the upgraded part from a ford dealer for $163 and installed. runs fine now. my biggest complaint is ford knows there's a problem since the have came out with an upgraded control module so why isn't this a recall? i live in a state that temperatures in the winter months can be below 0 degrees fahrenheit and drive an hour one way to work, this could have happened when i was on the road in extreme cold, could of had my two children with me broke down on the side of the road and cold out. luckily it happened at home but still it was 4 degrees out and laying under my truck taking the module off was not very pleasant. think this is something that ford needs to do something about. *tr

My 2006 ford f150 fx4 has stalled on the highway at two different times in the last 9,000 miles. i am driving at normal speeds, with normal weather conditions, half tank of gas, and i was coasting as highway speeds slowed - as i went to hit the accelerator to speed up, i lost the ability to accelerate. first the wrench dash light came on, then i noticed steering was slightly difficult and then the battery and transmission light came on. i got the vehicle to the side of the road, but i did not lose headlights, radio, heat, or power. i turned the truck off and waited 2 minutes, then it started back up - a little difficult on the starter, but it worked. i have read numerous chat forums online with users having this same issue with 2006 v8's in the f150. what is ford doing about this? my vehicle has been meticulously maintained and cared for. from what i read this is a fuel pump control panel issue with corrosion of dissimilar metals - where is the recall? *tr

There is a fuel drive module and controls the electrical output to the fuel pump. oem part number fl8a-9d370-aa. the module is mounted to the one of the rear frame crossbars, above the spare tire on the f150 pickups. due to the placement and mounting salt and road debris get stuck between module and frame and cause massive eroding of the metal housing causing the module to fail. my trucks module failed at around 44,000 miles. *tr

Truck does not start fuel pump does not run . remove spare tire for access and found fuel pump driver module broken and corroded. should be a recall!!! *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford f150. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. the dealer advised the contact that the fuel module was fractured, deteriorated and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. no repairs were performed. the current and the failure mileages were 58,000.

On three occasions, while pumping gas into my truck, the fuel nozzle shuts off and oversprays on to the side of my truck. this has happened at 3 different gas stations. i feel that this could be a fire hazard as well as a health hazard it were to happen to an elderly person. the pump nozzle does not fit snugly into the fuel tank. i think it is because of the angle that the fuel line going into the fuel tank is positioned, it almost seems to steep of a turn. all three times the fuel backs up into the tank and oversprays me if i'm standing close. i've learned not to stand close now, but i still get fuel all on me when i have to hang up the fuel pump, and fuel is all on the side of my truck now too.... very irritating ford! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle began to shake vigorously and there was a strong gasoline odor in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic advised that the fuel injectors would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Driving on interstate 90 in michigan truck started misfiring and about 1000 feet later the engine quit altogether. replaced the fuel pump module which the mechanic said was very common in northern states. corrosion between dissimilar metals caused the module case to break and allow water inside and short the module out. *tr

2006 ford f-150 super crew 5.4l v8 with approximately 28000 miles began to run rough when i let off the accelerator. upon restart, the vehicle was smoking heavily and very rough to idle. check engine light came on at that point. vehicle was sluggish, had hardly any power. took to local ford dealer who advised that fuel injectors for cylinders 7 and 8 failed, flooded the cylinders and caused a hydrolock. initially i was advised that this was a $400 repair to switch out the injectors. upon subsequent inspection, it was determined that significant engine damage had occurred from a thrown rod. dealer now advising that a new motor will be required. vehicle has manufacture date as 1/2006 (drivers door sticker). ford advises that while 2005 engines had this same issue, my engine was not affected and is not subject to recall. *tr

I had a fuel injector fail that completely ruined the engine at 71k miles. i had to have it replaced. i was very surprised to see that my problem was exactly like the ford 2005 customer satisfaction program 07m08 problem. my truck was built in 2005, but titled as a 2006. i have talked and wrote to ford but they would not help me. i told them i still have the failed injector and they wouldn't even look at it to see if it was one of the defective parts that spurred the 07m08 program. i believe ford needs to expand the customer satisfaction program 07m08 to include 2006 models. i would love for the nhtsa to pressure ford to revisit this issue. this was hard for me because i still have the injector that failed. i keep it as a reminder of the $8,000 i had to spend on a new engine. i believe the nhtsa should pressure ford to admit which injectors were an issue so people like me have leverage to fight giants like ford that in this case screwed their customer. *js

I had an injector stick open on my 2006 f150 and it caused the engine to hydrolock and seized up the engine. my complaint is that the 2005 f150 had an extension on the warranty due to this problem. i heard that some of the early 2006's (which were made it 2005) has also had theses problems but ford did not extend the warranty on the 2006. *tr

Subj: broken gas tank at seams on my 2006 ford f150 truck i have a major problem with my 2006 ford f150 fuel tank leaking at the manufactures plastic welded seams. i bought my last 3 trucks from north county ford, in vista, california. my 3rd truck was a brand new 2006 ford f150, and all 3 trucks i bought from north county ford, i paid extended warranty on each one of them, and that was over $9,000, and i never used 1 penny of it, i never needed any warranty or extended warranty work until now, for the faulty leaky plastic gas fuel tank under my truck. i could not figure out why my gas gauge said low fuel, when i had just put fuel in the truck the same day. when i started my truck, i smelled gas, so i got out of the truck, and could see it coming out of the fuel tank area. i went to the gas station with the low fuel light on, because i wanted to get home before something bad happened, and i put more fuel in the truck, and just going only 15 miles the gas disappeared and the low fuel light came on again, but i did get it home. i jacked up the truck and started it, and climbed underneath, and was surprised to see that it was a plastic black fuel tank, not steel or metal. i was just like a cheap swimming pool that you would put two of them together, and you would seal it in the middle to make a tank. but the seal is now broke, and im trying to put some plastic seal on it, but everything i read on the internet, told me ford was already aware of this problem, because i put an ad up on craigslist under the automotive section, asking mechanics for help on why this would happen to such a new truck. its not like i ran over something, as that would of made a hole in the tank, and i could understand that being my fault, but the seams coming apart, and the gas just going all over the ground. this is an extreme fire ...

Spark plugs fail and engine stops. plugs can't be replaced;long shaft seizes to head walls. scheduled maintenance item for 100,000 miles.dangerous design of plugs for all ford f-150 5.4 v-8 ; as loss of steering, brakes with engine failure.

On filling up with gas at a station, the front end of the gas tank fell down and hit the ground. the front strap that holds the tank rusted out and broke. the truck is 38 months old with 28000 miles on the odometer. no visible rust is showing on the pick up bed and the automobile has never driven on winter roads. i bought the truck new. a definite safety issue is involved. if the truck was moving when this happened, an explosion would be the result. *tr

My 2006 f150 will stall while driving. i would shut the truck off and it would start back up and not give me a problem for another day or so. it only stalls while i am driving and it doesn't matter what speed i am driving. *tr

I reported my catalytic converters went bad to richmond ford llc. i have a 2006 ford f-150 xlt with 44,000 miles. the service manager informed me that the 3 year, 36,000 mile factory warranty was past. it was during a routine state inspection my mechanic found the issue. i again called my mechanic. he informed that there is an 8 year 80,000 mile federal emissions warranty. i again called richmond ford llc. spoke with the service manager, he told me that there was no such warranty. i had to take my truck to a local exhaust specialist. it took a week and over $2000 to repair my truck. i called ford motor companies customer care line. they informed me there was a federal emissions warranty and it was for 8 years or 80,000 miles. now i am out $2000 and i am fighting with ford to recover my expenses, lost time from work with no success can you assist or provide me with any contact information to assist me in this matter. your assistance would be greatly welcome. *tr thanks, brian m dougherty

Filed previous complaint about my truck. it now blows black smoke when it cranks. it is a good indication that it receiving a rich mixture of gas. this needs to be researched. i know it ties in with the mass air flow sensor, but ford indicates everything is normal although i am seeing black smoke now when i crank up my truck. *tr

Ford f-150 2006 with 5.4 l leaks fuel out of the top of the fuel tank when filling, the fuel stations pump does not shut off when the tank is full causing gasoline to be spilled on the ground. this started and then the fuel gauge stopped working so i have no idea how much fuel to pump before this happens at every fill-up. the dealer has replaced the fuel filler tube and has ordered a new fuel gauge but for two weeks has been unable to solve the problem. this is not only a safety issue but also an environmental issue. i was informed by an online ford expert mechanic, that there were other instances of fuel leaks on this model (gaskets at the fuel pump assembly). *tr

Fuel economy is not in accordance with standards on the 4.6l f150. i have checked and checked it time and time again. i am supposed to actually get better gas mileage on the highway. around town and on the highway, since the purchase of my truck in 2006 it has been getting 13 mpg. i just recently placed a k&n filter on it in order to help with the mileage. i am now getting 15mpg highway and around town. before the change, the trucks idle was rough and dropped below 1,000 rpms. after the change, it's still the same. i took it to a two different ford departments and spoke with them about the concern that i had and both told me it was the way i drove the truck. wrong. when there is black soot on the exhaust pipe and it's not clean, that's an indication of a maf sensor or one of the oxygen sensors have gone bad. i have nearly 25,000 miles on my truck and am fixing to replace the maf sensor due to the fact that a maf sensor will not show up as being damaged and no computer codes are relayed through this. the oxygen sensors would show computer codes. i do have it on file at wayne morris ford in perry, ga where they had checked the truck and stated nothing was wrong, i was just getting bad gas. this was before i changed out the air filter. it is aggravating in knowing that one, i am driving a truck that now gets 15 mpg city/highway where before it was 13 mpg when i should be getting 17/20 mpg. *also, here is a keynote. the 2006 cruise control assembly was messed up on the truck when i first purchased it and they replaced it with a 2007 cruise control assembly and placed a newer 2007 computer in it due to the fact 2006 was not picking up on the cruise control.*tr

The engine stalled and a mechanic later determined that a substantial amount of water was found in the gas tank. prior to the stall the truck had been kept in a location where it would be impossible for someone to put water into the tank. when i explained this to the ford dealership mechanic, he indicated that he personally had seen other cases where water had mysteriously appeared in a ford f150 gas tank which appeared to be attributable to the fact that rain water landing inside the trucks box drips through the seams and rivets of the box directly onto the fuel pump passing into the gas tank when it remains parked for a substantial period of time. when i googled "water in the fuel tank", i find that the first item to come up is ford f150 owners describing the inexplicable discovery of substantial amounts of water in their gas tank! (please try googling this yourself. ) *tr

2006 supercrew 4x4 f150 that began missing and shaking badly along with rich smell of gasoline this morning. was taken into shop where it later hydrolocked and was now unable to start. assessment by ford technician found the engine to have a faulty injector on cylinder 6 that was stuck in the open position allowing fuel to dump directly into cylinder until full and the piston was unable to move anymore apparently resulting in some bent rods according to technician. was advised that engine was blown and needed $9500 for replacement engine since vehicle was just out of warranty at 56,000 miles. found out that many of the 2005 models of this vehicle had recalls on the same injectors making this type of repair covered, but my vin does not show this recall since it a 2006 model. this bothers me because my truck was actually shown to be manufactured in sept 2005 and possibly had the same batch of faulty injectors installed in it. *tr

A few days later the engine light came on again and this time it was the catalytic converter, which had to be replaced. when they said the other catalytic converter needed to be replaced. had this truck in the shop 6 times for engine light. *tr

Two separate occasions i experienced a fuel injector failure on my '06 f-150 while traveling on i-65 on 10-10-06 and on i-10 on 10-14-06. i was told by a dealer in culman alabama that i could drive it on to memphis with the engine light on. upon arrival in memphis dobbs ford told me there was nothing wrong and i had to take his word. on my trip back to tampa the engine light came on again and i had to towed to american ford in tallahassee. the replaced #6 fuel injector. later, while in memphis #5 injector failed and was replaced at landers ford in collierville. a few days later the engine light came on again and this time it was the catalytic converter, which had to be replaced. *jb

I purchased a 2006 f-150 on july 6, 2006 with 9,177 miles on it. on july 10, 2006 i allowed my 24-year-old son to take the truck 700 feet to his mobile home to take a washer and dryer from my home to his. he was within 3 feet of the porch of the mobile home with the truck in four wheel drive in reverse when the gas pedal stuck and knocked his mobile home about 3 feet off the foundation. he had just let off the brake a little to ease back. the truck and mobile home seem to be totaled. my husband and i went to the dealership on 7/12/2006 and he said he was not going to do a d*** thing about it and threatened to call the police. i told him the manual said to go to the dealership. asked if i should call ford motor company. he stated that he did not make the vehicle and he didn't know what to tell me. we paid cash for the vehicle and had it towed to a secure lot until further investigation. i asked my insurance company to investigate. we purchased the premiumcare extended service plan. if nothing else, it should have fell under the implied warranty. *nm

During normal highway driving the gas tank was ruptured on a f150 supercrew 4x4 king ranch by unknown debris. the gas tank does not have a protective shield. it is available as an option, it is standard equipment on the 4x4 model, which i found out later. upon arriving at our destination we noticed the fuel was spilling, i called roadside assistance, they recommended i call the fire dept. they were able to stop the leak and the vehicle was towed to the nearest dealership. the gas tank was replaced and i do have the old tank. *nm

2006 f150 fx 4 -4x4 super cab 5.4 l. i traded the exact same truck in an 04 model year for this 2006. ford has refused to fix ( for 3 model years ) : drive train vibration, drive train howl/whine. the 04 was in the shop 6 times with no fix. my 06 in the dealership now. i haven't made the first payment or the first oil change. problems not present on test drive. started at 500 miles. other problems include : brake pedal is mush. it never firms up. it will go to the floor. doors wont shut without slamming. super cab doors wont shut tight without pushing top in. my best fuel economy is 13 mpg highway with the cruise on. the "new" f150's are a disgrace to the ford name. $ 38,000 p.o.s. !! my last ford. *nm
