On the night of june 16th 2008 just before midnite, i heard an explosion then car horn blaring. i looked outside and saw my 2002 ford f-150 on fire. flames were shooting out from the engine through the hole from the explosion on the drivers side. i yelled to my wife, call the fire department my truck is on fire. my truck had been parked in my driveway for over 7 hours. i got home from work at 4:30 parked my truck and was dozing off just before midnite. i never received a recall notice from ford so was unaware there was a problem until i googled ford 2002 f-150 fires. then i kept reading story after story on consumer affairs website. amazing i never heard of this before this. *tr
My 2002 f150 has started accelerating without warning on it's own. i am a certified mechanic and suggested to the dealer that there may be an issue with the speed control module, they denied any issues of such. my wife experienced this several times and at one time causing her to almost be hit my an oncoming train. luckily she was smart enough to immediately throw it into neutral and brake, the train came within inches of the truck. again ford denies knowing of any suck issues with the acceleration. i believe this is a major safety hazard and should be resolved before someone is killed due to the lack of interest on fords part. *tr
Our 2002 f-150, caught on fire underneath the hood saturday 5/10/08 evening after being parked for 45 minutes at out home. we believe it had to do with the ford recalls out on the speed control switch. it started where the brake fluid is located and burned to the master cylinder. *tr

Ford's recall about cruise control fires has been on cnn three times in the last few years. i have taken my vehicle to the dealer each time when the first two recalls came out. each time i was told by the ford dealer that they did not have the necessary parts to make the repair. i asked them to call me when the parts came in. i phoned phil white ford on several occasions after that and was always told they still did not have the parts. now i have a new ford, same recall. it appears they are still using the defective cruise control part that have been used for the past 6 or so years. *tr

2002 ford f150 supercab burned up in my driveway at 5 am in the morning. the vehicle had not been driven for a day and a half. we were woken up by the car alarm and two loud bangs. the truck was fully engulfed and was on fire next to the house and fence and 2 other cars. thank goodness the truck wasn't in the garage or parked forward in the driveway. the fence was destroyed and the two vans damaged by flames. the truck was a total loss. fire department stated that it was a faulty cruise control device. not driven for almost two days and the cruise control almost killed my family??? now we are out thousands even with insurance covering part of the loss. nothing would have replaced the lives of my family had the house gone up. ford knows this problem is a ticking time bomb and makes very little effort to save lives. *jb
Drove my 2002 f 150 approximately 25 miles home and parked it. the truck has never given me any problems and wasn't making any noise. about 30 minutes later i noticed a orange fire ball realizing it was my truck. the truck was fully involved within minutes. the entire front end of the truck melted away. the drivers side wheel, hood, and everything connected to the engine block is non existent. this is in addition to the cab which there is nothing left either. i am the second owner of this truck, never received a recall notice in the mail. im not sure what caused the fire. fire marshall said it started in the engine compartment. *jb

I recently responded to have the recall for the cruise control on my 2002 f-150 completed. since then, my cruise control has failed to work and when i hit the "on" button and the "coast" button at the same time, my horn will blow. the dealer has informed me that there is an $89 diagnostic fee for something that has never worked since this " factory fix". it had worked up until i drove it in that day. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford f150. while driving 55 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle began to accelerate. the contact has had issues with the cruise control ever since the vehicle was purchased. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. the current mileage was 97,000 and failure mileage was 50,000.
I activated the cruise control on my 2002 ford f-150 supercrew on march 21, 2006. i bought the vehicle new off the lot in 2002 and had used the cruise control no more than 5 times in 4 years. when i attempted to disengage the cruise control, the cruise indicator disabled, but the cruise control did not. my vehicle proceeded without my foot on the accelerator (at 75 mph). the brakes didn't not deactivate the cruise control either. i put the vehicle in "neutral" and pulled to the side of the road while the vehicle was still trying to accelerate. the cruise control cable was stuck on full throttle. ford took the cable out and proceeded to tell me that was a common occurrence. --problem-- while i attempt to "brake" and my vehicle attempts to "accel", the vehicle isn't slowing down. ford said that because i didn't use my cruise control regularly, that is the reason it got stuck!!! ?? why should it matter if i use the cruise regularly, it shouldn't try to kill me when i decide to use it??? *jb
2002 ford f-150 traveling west on highway 40 in arizona. recall notice received on the cruise control initial failure cruise control on. engaged maintain speed button vehicle started accelerating. punched all of the cruise control buttons and tapped the brakes cruise control turned off. confirmation turned cruise control on and hit maintain speed button. vehicle started accelerating as before. hit all of the cruise control buttons and tapped the brake. at 85 mph, i turned off the ignition. immediately turned ignition on. cruise control was active, motor raced, but transmission was in neutral. shifter was in drive. turned off ignition again and cruised to the left side of the road. started vehicle and proceeded without using cruise control recommendation transmissions should not shift into neutral unless the operator places the shift lever in neutral. previously owned fords from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and early 90s do not disengage the transmission when the key is turned off. *jb

On sept 22,2005 my 2002 ford f150 burst into flames in my carport while i was sleeping. my daughter came home and woke me just in time to get out of the house before the entire house burned. i received the recall notice just a few days after the fire. the fire was witnessed to start in my truck. the truck was so severely burned that several investigators reported this was typical of what they where experiencing with ford fires although ford's investigators reported the cruise switch was properly functioning according to an x-ray of the part. how the part could be found is a mystery since the truck was so damaged. ford is not taking responsibility for anything. we lost everything we owned. *jb

I was advised by ford in september 2005 that my 2002 f-150 truck was involved in the speed control deactivation switch recall and instructed to report to my dealer for assistance which i did. my cruise control was disabled (wire cut) by the dealer and told that the replacement part would be available by november 2005. it is now january 2006 and the dealer reports that they don't know when the replacement part will be availabe (ford says it may be february). my complaint is that i am suffering a loss of use benifit from ford's defective equipment for five (5) months and counting and this is not fair or right! *nm

I have a 2002 ford f-150 supercrew pickup. there have been recorded incedents of failure of the speed control switches causing fire of the vehicle and adjoining property. on incident that occured in corpu christi, tx is well documented and that fire was in 2003 involving a 2002 supercrew. i called the ford dealer about having the switch replaced and to my shock/surprise, 2002 supercrews are not on the recall list. the switch is $15.00 and i could buy one, but i'm on total disability and cant replace it myself. i would like for you to put the heat under ford to include 2002 supercrews on the recall list. i did disable the switch, but it makes it worthless using the speed control. thanks!
