While driving at 60mph on us 85 n the engine light came on with a message "check electronic throttle control" the speed began to drop and i could not accelerate. i began to merge to the right to the emergency lane. i turned off the engine and started again. then i drove the vehicle home. it was a very scary experience i could have been in an accident. it was very dangerous. this should be a recall problem. *kb

My best friend's 2003 ford expedition blew a spark plug out of the cylinder head while pulling a boat across a highway. this caused the vehicle to be stuck in the middle of the road, and several cars had to slam on their brakes and swerve to barely avoid collision. upon internet research, i learned that thousands of people had the exact same problem with this same engine in ford vehicles over several years of production. ford denies this problem exists and endangers lives everywhere with this motor. i saw this problem myself, and mechanics i have talked to said that these ford cylinder heads are all bad with this problem. this problem exists for every ford triton 5.4 liter v8 engine, so it exists across thousands of vin numbers. *tt
A week ago i was driving my 2001 ford expedition to friends for a social visit. on the way, i drove as i normally do the speed limit as posted. at around 10:00 pm, in the middle of nowhere, i encountered the now well known and dreaded spark plug ejection. thought i had been shot at there for a second, but soon realized what it was. it couldn't have happened at a worse time nor to a worse spark plug to reach, far left rear. i was only 75 miles from home stranded by my vehicle. i truly am a loyal ford fan and owner of several, but this is by far the worst vehicle i have ever owned! i am thoroughly disgusted with this piece of you know what! after getting it towed home, i attempted a replacement of the plug only to find the plug hole was screwed up and couldn't get it in there straight. so what the heck do i do now? ford motor company, this is a crock and you know it! whatya gonna do now? blow it off and do nothing, as i expect. or are you going to repair it as you well ...
On two separate occasions, while driving my 2004 ford expedition, a spark plug has been ejected from the engine. one time, at city speeds, a second time at 65 miles per hour. both times, there was an instant loss of power and the smell of gasoline filled the passenger compartment. after the original failure, i took it to an auto mechanic who replaced the spark plug and installed a replacement coil on plug assembly. i have not yet repaired the second incident as it occurred last night. it seems to me that this is a very dangerous condition that initially didn't seem that significant, but after the tow truck operator said, that he thought there was a recall, it prompted me to research further. his tow service operates in the harrisburg, pa area and he claimed that he sees this happen nearly 1-2x/week with ford 5.4l v8 engines. he said, that he's "seen so many of them, that they've got to have a recall. *tr

2006 ford expedition. consumer states vehicle will activate the engine fail safe mode and vehicle will shut down while driving *tgw the consumer stated when the vehicle shut down, loss of power steering occurred. the consumer stated upon stopping, he discovered that turning the ignition switch to the off position and turning it back to the on position, the engine would re-start. the dealership was unable to find any problem by running a diagnostic check. the consumer stated no warning lights appeared, except when the engine fail safe mode activated. the engine safe mode warning disappeared upon starting the vehicle. *jb
I have a 1999 ford expedition that has continuously blown spark plugs, i have had it repaired several times at a local dealership. i keep my vehicles maintained on a regular basis, and i have no warnings leading up to the spark plug blowing. i am afraid that one of these times it will blow and my engine will catch on fire. i am very disappointed with ford, that they have not done anything to resolve this issue, except to keep replacing the coil pack and spark plugs and charging me more money. this problem began in nov 2007, and i have had to have it serviced for the same issue two other times and now as of today i will have to have it repaired again. i have trust in my dealership that they are fully capable of repairing the vehicle as they have serviced my other vehicles with no other problems. *tr
I was preparing to make a left hand turn into a busy office complex, and the engine in my 2006 ford expedition cut off. the system generated code was 'engine failsafe mode". i turned on my hazards, put the car in park and waited a few minutes to restart. the engine car started, but the fact that it cut off, without warning is extremely alarming. i've contacted ford corporate who said that there were no recalls, and that i needed to go to a service center. after researching the internet and this site, i am convinced that this issue should prompt a recall, but ford's cost-benefit analysis indicates that it is waiting until there are enough fatalities to make the determination to fix what appears to be a $600-800 issue. ford should be and can be held liable for gross negligence in their deliberate decision to disregard the engine failure complaints. i have been a loyal ford customer for several decades. that is no longer the case. *tr
2006 ford expedition on 2/2/11 while i was driving on freeway the vehicle goes into "engine fail safe mode." not knowing what this meant i was going to proceed to exit up ahead which was an exit up a hill. when i stepped on the gas i realized the engine was off. i was able to move slightly to the left to stop on the shoulder at the bottom of the exit. this is very dangerous and ford needs to make a recall before a life is lost! *kb
