Problems with 2015 Ford Escape POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2015 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 66 348 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2015 Ford Escape

We were driving on a rural highway at a steady speed when with no warning our vehicle lost acceleration power and came to a dead stop in the middle of the road. when we pushed the gas pedal the rpms would you up but the car would not move. turning the car off and back on would restore power for only a moment before we lost the ability to accelerate again. thank god we were not on the highway or this could have been much more serious. after pushing our car a half mile the car finally gave me a faulty transmission alert. this car only has 71k miles and receives regular maintenance. researching this problem i have discovered multiple reports of the same issues with many ford escapes under 100k here is the link to several of them : http://m.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2015/transmission/failure.shtml *ln *dl

Purchased my 2015 ford escape 10/12/19 from cardinaleway hyundai dealership in corona ca. february 1, returned to dealership for routine maintenance. 02/07/20 i was going to lunch and when i put my car in drive it sounded like i was dragging something under the front of the car. parked car immediately and had it towed to the dealership who says my it's my transmission. the transmission almost fell from the car. no warranty and no remedy as if yet.

Out of nowhere in the middle of the day vehicle refused to move from stop light, blocking the lane. rpm went up no engagement not even a bit. turned ignition off/on, put in drive, car moved 100 feet and stop again. i realized this isn't a fluke but serious problem, so after several tries by switching hesitantly from n to d to s was able to drive about 300 feet to closest safeway parking and call for towing. long story short, after specialized transmission shop in the area was able to check it out and take it for test drive verdict was "its probably not that bad, something is blocking transmission filter, seems like transfer case issue, we see that a lot on awd models for these escapes. however only after we take it out we can decide if something is broken in transmission itself " so apparently this was a good news which will cost $2500 and if something else will be found in transmission $4500. we got this car brand new from the ford dealer and timely done all services at ford dealership for all these years, this kind of things should not happen on well taken care vehicle off at only 75000 miles

I was driving on the road, and out of no where, my car just stopped moving. it was still on, but wouldn't move. after putting the accelerator all the way down, and after about 20 seconds, it finally moved but was really jerky for the next several minutes until i was home. when i tried to take it to get checked, it did the same thing. i pulled off to the side of the road, turned my car off, waiting several minutes, and started it again. it would run fine for several yards, then do the same thing, where it would just stop moving. a clear safety hazard when driving on the road and the car just stops moving. it's currently at a ford dealership now, and i am waiting to hear back. i have noticed that i am not the only one who has had this problem with the 2015 ford escape. this is also terrible because the car is only 4 years old and only has a little over 60,000 miles on it. this should not be happening, especially in multiple cars!

The shifter cable bushing broke as it was being parked in driveway and my 2015 ford escape was locked in neutral position even though the console shifter was in the park position. luckily we noticed it roll slightly after getting out of car and were able to get back in car and place the parking brake so it would not roll into the street. this is a similar issue to a recall of older ford escapes (2013 and 2014). the shifter would not move after that and we had to have it towed to dealer. had it been on a lesser grade we may not have noticed that it was not in park, and could have rolled into street causing accident.

Transmission failed at 150,000 miles. required transmission maintenance was performed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off and the 'transmission not in park' message displayed. after stopping on the side of the road, the engine was restarted and the vehicle operated normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. ford of murfreesboro (1550 nw broad st, murfreesboro, tn) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 138,000.

After backing out of my driveway in reverse, i went to put the vehicle into drive. none of the gears would then engage. i put the vehicle in park and that's where it stayed. i was able to move the shifter freely, almost sliding through the gears with barely any force. it was as if the gear shift and transmission were not connected (so to speak). when i would move the gear shifter, none of the lights on the dashboard would light up as in what gear i was supposed to be in. the only gear that lit up was park. after doing some research, i looked under the hood and noticed the shift cable bushing was off of the transmission.

I drove to a dairy queen parked on a slight incline, put the car in park. as i started to get out of the car it started to roll back, i stepped on the brake and checked to make sure the car was in park which it was. i then put on the emergency brake. when i returned to the car to leave. i could not start the car, the shifter was locked in park but the indicator on the dash showed it was in reverse, also the back up camera was on. the car was towed to klaben ford in kent ohio, where the shifter cable bushing was found to be broken. klaben installed a new bushing. i have researched this to find ford had recalled some models between 2013 and 2016 for this problem, but not this car. i suspect there are still some bad bushings out there. i see this as a safety concern that needs investigation. thank you

Recall number: 18s20. the shifter cable bushing is degraded just like the recall number i mentioned at the beginning. while i was parked, i was not able to shift manually and the dash kept reading neutral. i was able to get the cable back on the transmission in order to get the vehicle home.

Warning light comes on. transmission hit ok goes off. messaglight goes on to shut car off i do that an message doesn't come back on. at one time my car even slowed downs to 40 and another warning light came on shut car off restarted an ran ok. that warning light stayed on until taken to ford garage in gibson city. they couldn't find anything wrong so reset. these all began a month ago.

I was driving to work. had no noise , lights, or warning of any kind..i was pushing on the gas pedal..the car quit moving. i thought maybe a computer error. coasted to the side of the road, turned the car off..waited a minute..re started it..started to drive..went just a few feet and it did it again...again..no noise, warning lights..nothing. i made a phone call..i was right around the corner from a car repair shop. really kinda coasted in. of course they looked at it..gave me the great news as to it had catastrophic transmission failure. i had it towed from there to a ford dealership..they found the same issue. the tow company that towed my car in the next 2 weeks towed 4 of them..all with transmission issues. i also talked to a transmission shop that stated ford is having and has been having transmission problems. ir was a little scary and dangerous to be driving 55mph in morning traffic and have your car just wait moving.

My transmission started having a shuddering in the front end. after taking it to the dealer i was told that the torque converter and transmission is going out. i started noticing the issue when i was accelerating up hills. it felt as if i wsa going over bumpy roads. when i was on the highway the vehicle abruptly shut off. i was able to get it started again and drive it to a shop. i was told that this is a recurring issue in the ford escape by the dealer and by several other transmission shops in my area. after doing research online, i have also found thousands of complaints in regards to the same issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle was unable to shift gears and shut off in the middle of the road. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was taken to village ford (located at 23535 michigan ave, dearborn, mi 48124, (313) 565-3900) where it was diagnosed that the body control module needed to be replaced and reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 59,059.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while driving 10 mph and making a right turn to park, the gear shift failed to turn and shifted into reverse. the contact was unable to turn off the vehicle and it kept moving backwards. the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to stop the vehicle. the contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. the contact had instructions on how to manually place the vehicle in neutral. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the shifting cable needed to be replaced, but the part was not available for the repair. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 101,800.

Tl-the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. the contact stated that he saw a leak of transmission fluid. the dealer motorcars of lansing inc 6505 s pennsylvania ave, lansing, mi 48911 (888) 710-5507 stated that they needed to put in a new transfer case since that he had a cracked cylinder for the transmission in which the contact paid $400. while the dealer was making those repairs they notified the contact that there a hole in the transmission which would cost an additional $3500. the contact had just purchased the used vehicle 3 to 5 months ago. the dealer stated that the contact had just gone over the warranty. the contact had asked for a car fax report before he purchased the vehicle but the dealer said they did not have one. the failure mileage was 13,000. tf

Complete transmission failure while driving on highway. ford had to do a complete rebuild at 87k miles. the failure rendered the vehicle useless for the highway and luckily my daughter was able to coast off the highway and limp home which took 2 hours for a 15 mile distance. display indicated transmission fault - service now or something like that.

When driving...it shudders.......like something is wrong with the transmission.....

Shifter cable broke at transmission end. a bushing that helps connect the cable to the transmission broke. it allowed me to park the car without the transmission in park and without receiving any audible warning. it also caused the transmission to be stuck in the d position, not allowing me to start the car as i had no way of changing gears. if the car was on a hill, it would've rolled away, creating a dangerous situation.

The dealer refused to pay for defective driveshafts. the vehicle would shake violently when decelerating. the dealership blamed faulty tires but the tires wer not the problem. we had an independent mechanic replace both drive shafts to correct the problem. no reimbursement was offered by dealership and was brought in while under warranty with no help.

When i drive my ford escape it doesn't want to shift into 2to 3rd it has delay in shifting and it's worse when it cold out ant then it down shifts hard it shifts like know other car or truck or suv and when i'm trying to find a parking spot in a parking lot i just give it a little gas and it jumps forward fast so fast i almost hit cars and people walking and i had it in the ford shop 5 or 6 times and they say will put it on ford wire and ford said that the way it should work and it won't hurt the transmission i think that is wrong and unsafe i only had the ford escape for 3 months i can be contacted by email at [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I parked in a parking space at the grocery store and started rolling backwards almost hitting a customer walking! i was in park, but the dashboard said i was in reverse! what the heck? how dangerous is this! i could not move the shifter or turn the car off. i had to wait hours for a tow truck. i'm so glad that i did not roll back and hit someone or something. this is a very concerning safety issue and i trust that my local ford dealer will take care of it, no questions asked, so that i can get my car back and get to work.

Shifter cable bushings problem! i parked in a parking space at the grocery store, put the car in park, and started rolling backwards almost hitting a customer behind me. my shifter was in park, but the dashboard said i was in reverse. i was stuck and could not turn the car off and had to wait hours for a tow. now i'm without a car to get to work. what if i hit the lady that was walking behind me? this is a very concerning safety issue and i trust that my local ford dealer will take care of this, no questions asked, and get my car back so that i can get to work. very scary and so thankful this didnt result in damage or injury. the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission detached from the transmission. a degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission allowed the transmission to be in a gear state different than the gear shift position selected driver. the condition allowed driver to move the shift lever to 'park' and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in 'park,' with no warning message or audible chime. if the parking brake is not applied, a degraded shifter cable bushing that detaches from the transmission could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Moved shift lever to drive and applied gas. vehicle started to go in reverse. this occurred in school parking lot and fortunately no one was hurt and there was no property damage. shop identified broken shift cable. repairs pending.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while attempting to place the gear in park, the shifter cable fractured without warning. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to call the dealer. the dealer was not called. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced the shifter cable. the failure mileage was 90,564.

When driving at any speed greater than 15 mph removing pressure from gas pedal causes rpm to drop from 4000 to 1000 and car jerks suddenly. pressing gas when that occurs causes car rpm to increase while mph does not then car jerks hard again. can occur while driving in city or highway

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle moved while engaged in park. the dealer (keller bros ford lebanon, 1030 schaeffer rd, lebanon, pa 17042, (717) 949-2000) confirmed that the shifter cable failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in a recall and suggested that the contact call nhtsa to file a complaint. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 111,000.

Shifter cable broken

I was driving my 2015 ford escape se with 95,000 miles down the highway going 55mph when i heard a faint whistling noise. i didn't think anything of it at first because it was so faint, but then i realized i was pushing the gas and the rpms would shoot up very high but the car did not accelerate. i immediately started pulling off the road rapidly slowing down. i got off and i kept pushing the gas trying to get myself off until i was almost completely stopped. at one last attempt to get myself to a safe spot to be stopped i pressed the gas the car lunched forward and made a very loud clunking noise. at this point i didn't think the car would go again so i called a tow truck. after everything cooled down it drove fine for the tow truck driver but i didn't feel safe driving the vehicle. it was towed to the service center of the dealership where i bought the car. the man there explained to me the reason it stopped accelerating is because of a 'saftey' feature called limp mode where your car shifts into a lower gear to avoid further damage. after a few days they told me i needed two new sensors that detect when the transmission is over heating. i paid $350 for that and went on my way. not even 20 blocks away from the service center the car started making the exact same noise and broke down in the middle of a busy street. we had it towed back the service center. they had it brought to ford and ford said that it needed a new transmission. i don't think a car with not even 100,000 miles on it should need a new transmission. i really hope ford can do something for me. i am a young female and i don't feel safe driving this car that has now left me stranded more than once.

When driving at any speed greater than 15 mph removing pressure from gas pedal causes rpm to drop from 4000 to 1000 and car jerks suddenly. when switching from 1st to 2nd gears the car jerks. when accelerating the car is slow to take off, or won't pick up speed causing near collisions.

I would like to report a problem with my 2015 ford escape. i had parked my escape and in a busy interstate rest area. when i returned i got in and started the car. i placed the shift lever in the drive position. i took my foot off the break and stepped on the gas. the car then went backwards almost hitting the car that was behind my car. i put the shift lever into park and the car again went backwards. i then turned the engine off. i called ford and the car was towed to a ford dealer. there they said the shift cable was defective and it had come loose from the transmission leaving the car in reverse. so i could no longer control what gear the transmission was in. i report this because if any one had been behind me they could have hurt by being pinned between two cars.

Transmission cable bushing is defective, cable pops off shifting level. this causes a serious safety issue as the the driver places the vehicle in park, but transmission is in neutral causing the vehicle to roll.

The escape hesitates when you give it the gas it actually feels like it is slowing down. has happened several times. the service technician has not been able to replicate.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle would not switch gears and began making a loud clanking noise as if metal parts were being banged together. the vehicle was towed to baldwin ford in poplar bluff, missouri where it was initially diagnosed that the main power train control module needed to be replaced. afterwards, the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new or rebuilt transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I will be driving along and come to a stop for a traffic light stop sign or stop traffic and the engine will shut down. also it will make a hesitate noise and a clunk noise. right before it stops. i have taken into the ford dealer and they could not find anything wrong with all the test they did. so today 11/13/2017, i am dropping my car off again at the dealer. the car was in motion.this has happened may times since oct. 2017

I purchased my ford escape certified used from a dealership back in july 2016, it had approximately 26,000 miles on the vehicle and no accidents reported. in february 2017 the vehicle starts hesitating while in motion on a country street, acting as though it was about to stall out, no warning indicators came up, able to get to our driveway. when in our driveway we were able to back up but when placed in drive the dash gave a warning that the vehicle was not in park and it would not move forward only in reverse. we got it towed by our ford warranty to a local dealership where paperwork looks like they did an overhaul on the transmission. now it july of 2017 (56,000 miles on it) while driving on a highway the car begins to hesitate again, i was able to get off an exit on the highway but then my car completely stopped. when the accelerator was pressed nothing happened. no warning indicators at all present on dash. i turned off the vehicle and turn it back on and the car was able to move an inch. when placed in the sport drive the car could not recognize it in drive as evidenced by it did not even light up the "s" on the dash to let you know it was in sport drive. ford again towed my car to the local dealership where it is being inspected as we speak. i have had the car a total of 1 year and it has been at the dealership twice for transmission issues. unacceptable, thank goodness both times i was able to get the vehicle to safety, i would not want to imagine what would happen if i was on a much larger highway and this occurred to the vehicle. these issues are making me feel very unsafe and uncomfortable driving the vehicle, especially when my two children are in the car with me.

I purchased a used 2015 ford escape on may 10, 2017. i drove it to yellowstone over memorial day weekend to test the vehicle out. the transmission would shift really hard and at 40 mph it seemed to hesitate what gear to shift to. i took it back to the dealership, who sent it to a ford dealership and they reset the transmission. they said the car learns a driver's driving habits and since someone else owned the car it wasn't used to my driving habits. the reset on the transmission has help a little, i still do not like the way it shifts at 40 mph and it also hesitates to go and then when it kicks in it is hard to slow down. yesterday july 5, 2017 i was driving back to work from lunch and my power steering failed. i had a warning come on at the same time i noticed the power steering was gone. i was glad i was on a back road or it could have caused and accident. i couldn't move the steering wheel. i had the vehicle towed to a ford dealership. i have not heard anything regarding the issue yet. i have only had the car for almost 60 days and i have had it serviced twice. i don't feel i can trust this car. my 10 year old van with 170,000 miles is more reliable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while the vehicle was parked with the shift lever in the park position, it rolled backwards when the key was removed from the ignition. the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the shifter cable fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 58,479. updated 01/27/17*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired on december 8, 2016

The car accelerated after slowed down to park. it surged toward a cement wall and only scraped it by me turning wheel but went between two cement pillars and knocking over a cement bench. damage on the car and received a citation . i am just afraid if it happens again i won't be so lucky. so now i have to have the insurance company involved and it is costing me plus the citation . i think ford motor should take of this and do whatever it takes to fix the problem

A couple months after buying the car, it started stalling after driving it home from work.took to dealer put on the computer, nothing showed up as being wrong? they told me to put seafoam gas treatment in didn't work. the stalling kept happening after driving a long distance. after many times to the dealer (1time they kept it 2 weeks) they still couldn't find the problem? dealer decided to replace the throttle body and motor asy the only thing that controls the idle. it still continued to stall on and off after a long ride. then in feb. 2016 it stalled on i-75 several times this time not even 10 miles from work. we were going slow due to icy roads having to put in neutral just to keep from stalling. back to dealer, nothing showed up on computer. my wife then called dealer concerned that it could stall while driving 70mph on the highway the dealer decided to replace the throttle body and motor asy again. stumped on how to fix the problem got the car back saturday. went to work on monday after work stopped to get gas shut off restarted car and it stalled?? there seems to be no specific reason or condition that it keeps stalling. it stalls while in gear or park? this is a serious issue and could cause bodily harm. do i have a lemon?

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 ford escape. while driving 35 mph, the transmission failed and became stuck in the drive gear. the vehicle was towed to dorian ford in charter twp of clinton, michigan where the transmission was rebuilt. the dealer repaired the fractured shell casing and the fractured support bar, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 37,000.

Purchased vehicle 1/30/2015 and drove off lot with 3 miles on it. less than a week later vehicle started stalling at traffic lights and hesitating upon acceleration. vehicle was in ford repair shop for 12 days with 1200 worth of parts replaced on transmission. picked up vehicle with 810 miles on it and less than a week and 150 miles later the vehicle is again stalling at traffic lights upon acceleration. the vehicle is dangerous to drive! *tr

I bought this car new about a year ago. almost immediately i noticed an intermittent hesitation when trying to accelerate after slowing or from a full stop. the hesitation varies from about two seconds or longer. when the car does accelerate it surges forward at a fast rate of speed. while trying to turn left at a traffic light on a two lane road with oncoming traffic with sufficient time my car hesitated upon accelerating causing the oncoming car to brake hard in order to avoid hitting me. this car also hesitates after pulling off a road into a parking lot, ie., store, school, and, at random, will hesitate upon accelerating for a several second delay only to surge in speed making it difficult to initially control. i have taken the car back to the original dealer six times and once to another ford dealer. all say the because there is no fault code they cannot fix it. i called ford eng. and was told the same thing. the last time i had this car to the dealer the invoice stated, "no codes" and road tested but the mileage in was the same as the mileage out indication that nothing was done. it has become obvious that ford dealer i purchased this car from is now patronizing me. therefore it has become a waste of time to keep bringing this car back. i have found a multitude of similar complaints about ford vehicles on the internet. many were being put off with the same excuse, "no code." i am a ford retiree and highly disappointed that both a ford dealership and ford itself have patronize me to the point i believe i am being played because of my senior age. i believe this "hesitation" defect to be very dangerous and can result in severe injury or even death. thank you. *tr
