We have classified the 224 complaints from 2013 Ford Escape about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The cars engine stalls and dies after pulling out of parking lot or driveway while turning on intersection or just turned from a curb. it starts to slow down and doesn't respond to stepping on gas. then the dashboard light indicators turn on- battery, check engine, oil, etc. i had to put the cark on park, then turn the engine off. restart it, cranks a bit before going to full start. changed to drive transmission, then stepped on the gas. it started going then only a few feet later, the whole cycle starts again. in a couple of instances, itha--ened 4 types before i was able to drive normally. theses happened a couple of times driving out of shopping complex, once just after i pulled out of my driveway and 2 houses down. another time when i was pulling out of a hospital. it happened 3 times before i can even reach the highway, 3 curb turns from my parking spot. another instance stalled 4 times when im leaving the parking area of our rec center into the street.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the contact stated that there was an unspecified warning indicator that kept illuminating. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure, and the code was cleared. the vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. the manufacturer was notified months later about the failures. the failure mileage was not available.
My car has an open recall for the door latch not latching properly and i was wondering since the recall was never remedied if it could pertain to the battery draining while my vehicle was simply parked in my driveway. i had to jump start my vehicle and i am hoping that this isnt going to be a reoccuring thing.
Takata recall my vehicle had endless issues and problems. i would drive a mile or so to gas station, turn off car, get gas and then the car wouldn't start or drive 15 miles, do a job, 30 minutes later get in and the car wouldn't start. it took several times for the vehicle to turn over and then stay running. i would throw it into gear to get the engine running and sometimes it'd be fine, other times it would bog down and stall. i got into an accident and my car was totaled. i had mechanics look at the issue and they would say the o2 sensor, wastegate solenoid or evap leak. they would nickel and dime me with all these little things. the codes were, p0234,p26b7 and p0456. they said coolant was getting into the fuel system and that was contributing to the stalling and problems. i had to see a chiropractor after my accident due to spinal pain and discomfort. however, it was worth this getting rid of this lemon once and for all. if anyone else is experiencing these problems, post the fix so that it can save someone else from financial, emotional and physical pain. i didn't let anyone drive my vehicle(wife/family) because i never knew when it would stall and where.
On four different occasions, the vehicle was being driven by accelerating from a stop. seconds after beginning to accelerate, the engine appeared to stall. all ip lights went out and engine lost power. moments after this power loss, all lights came back on and vehicle was able to be driven normally. this vehicle has had an extensive repair/recall campaign history. this was reported during a service visit and no problem was found. the problem occured three more times.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving various speeds, the hill start assist not available, engine service, and engine fault message warning indicators illuminated. in addition, the vehicle stalled, the rpms decreased, and the power steering failed. the driver was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a computer glitch. the computer was reset, but the failure recurred. the dealer diagnosed that the vehicle overheated and the computer was reset again. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer again where it was diagnosed with too many communication codes. the vehicle was not repaired and was taken to a different dealer. the diagnosis was unknown. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the contact was able to file a case with the manufacturer. the failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Engine fault light illuminated and message appeared stating to have the vehicle serviced immediately. upon inspection by the dealer service department, this problem was found to be with a portion of the electrical wiring harness which due to its placement had abraded causing a short and erroneous engine fault message. ford currently has a recall for a similar/identical problem with other builds of this vehicle. it would seem that this recall should be expanded to include a wider manufacturing time frame. owners who have paid for this repair should be reimbursed.
Vehicle was in drive and suddenly lost power. the accelerator was pressed but the vehicle stopped driving forward even though the engine was running. the engine did not rev. the dash light indicating the transmission disappeared. the vehicle suddenly jumped into gear so hard i suffered whiplash. it did this several times as i attempted to get clear of heavy traffic. i literally thought i had been rear ended at one point as the car jolted so hard. after getting out of the roadway, the transmission failure service now light came on. this is consistant with the pcm wiring harness recall done on other 2013 escapes but was not covered for my particular vehicle. the jolts to the vehicle kicking in gear destroyed the transmission. i was in motion at the time, in bumper to bumper traffic. i was lucky not to strike or be hit by another vehicle. i have contacted ford but they state my car was not covered under that recall and that they will not help me.
Two problems. 1.) remote start not working properly. it shuts itself off within 30seconds due to corrosion on negative terminal wiring to battery. unknown cause why the corrosion would occur on my battery. i take care of my car and it is in the garage when not in use. 2.) engine suddenly stopped while driving. unknown reason. told that i need to have a software upgrade done to the computer system on my car, but not told if this would fix the stalling 100%. unclear why i would need to pay for an upgrade so my engine does not stall when driving. the car should work and drive without stalling. if i need a upgrade to the computer engine software so the car will not stall then i would expect this to be covered by ford on a recall. this was very scary and dangerous to have your car suddenly stop working while driving without any prior warning. i did not get any signals that the engine was going to stop, it just stopped suddenly while driving on a city street after leaving work. *tr

***no accident*** ford dealer diagnosis found codes p2036 and p26b7 as map sensor and pefr wire and engine coolant bypass valve. the ford dealer stated that this vehicle vin#[xxx] is not under recall and wants over $1100.00 to repair . the nhtsa campaign number 15v813000 covers this vehicle's diagnosis made by ford and should be recalled also under ford's recall number 14s17-s1. i've called ford motor corp. a second time 11/16/16 and was given case #11069892 and then transferred over to the dealer who again stated this vehicle is not covered under the recall. in the condition that this vehicle is at present i am seeking repairs under nhtsa campaign # 15v813000. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. once the vehicle was shifted into gear, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
The myfordtouch system will sporadically shut down. at times this shut down is evidenced by a loud pop through the audio speakers, then the audio goes out and the bluetooth phone connection resets. often it will display an error screen saying "shutting down to save battery" with a progress bar. that progress bar never finishes to the right before the system restarts. this will happen multiple times during a trip, with no similar characteristics between trips where this issue occurs (day/night, highway/city, warm/cold, driving or stopped, none of it matters) and i can't recreate it on demand. it will happen one day and then not for a week or two. the lack of ability to recreate means that the ford dealer will not repair it. the ford service rep suggested i replace the battery and on his advice i did. however, this not fix the problem. he tested the alternator, and checked for error codes all with no change in the situation. ultimately it has been with the dealer 3 times for service, with no resolution. i have video of it occurring on 11/6/2016. it has happened as far back as july 2016. most recent occurrence was today, 11/10/2016 date entered in field below is last time it happened.
While driving down the road about 50mph, the car lost all power and it actually felt as if the someone had depressed the brakes. since i had not hit the brakes the car behind me did not see any brake lights and almost rammed me. the engine light came on briefly at some point but i can't remember exactly when. my car then stalled. i was able to drift to the side out of the way. i tried starting and it would not start. after about 15 minutes it did start up and drove perfectly fine. this has happened to me 3 times over the past couple of months. i searched recalls and found recall 14s17 and notified ford. they said it doesn't cover my vin. why doesn't it? this is the problem i am having and it looks like many other people are experiencing the same issue. this has the potential to cause an accident, hurt someone or even cause death! my car was manufactured in nov 2012 and the recall states that it covers jan 2012 to april 2013 but not my vehicle. why???
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the vehicle last stalled in the middle of highway traffic. the contact was able to push the vehicle off of the highway and the vehicle restarted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to replicate and diagnose the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified and provided no solution other than suggesting the vehicle be diagnosed by a dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000. *bf the contact has gotten rid of vehicle due to safety concerns. *as
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. after the ignition was turned to the off position, the vehicle continued to operate. the contact stated that the vehicle turned itself off and on independently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v436000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
I had gotten into my vehicle and after turning it on i managed to make it to my neighbors house. my vehicle for the second time started to over heat and the engine light came on and the vehicle was stating that i need to refill the coolant. i just parked it and the next day we had filled the coolant again taken it to get the error codes checked and were informed we need to get a new thermostat. when taking it to the mechanics they had tried everything from checking codes to driving my vehicle and they were unable to get the issue taken care of due to not being able to re-create the codes. they had informed me that this is a known issue with ford, however when contacting ford they have no idea what i am talking about. i checked online and see there is a recall for this, but my vin even though having the qualifying manufacturing date is not eligible. i have had my vehicle for 1 1/2 years and have had it shut down on me, not have any power, start to put and stall, refilling coolant every so often, over heat, and i can never get a straight answer from the dealership. i have called for information in regards to recalls and these issues and am transferred to a person who is not there so i can leave a voice mail. i have never had a call returned. i just want to know what i have to do to understand what is going on with my vehicle. why is my vin not eligible as well? *tr
Engine wiring assembly failure (cv62*14290*nba & cv62*12a690*mbb) at 29,000 miles. advised by dealer service advisor vehicle too dangerous to drive as car may stall or stop. i first learned of this as i was driving on 4 lane highway, 10/8/16 & warning notice came on. vehicle hesitated while on freeway. sensor replaced at dealer. problem recurred on 10/19/16. again on interstate & engine hesitation, moved to right lane for fear of stall. dealer diagnosed engine wiring assembly failure. i contacted ford & was informed that my 1.6 engine not covered by similar recall (14s17) for 2.0 engine & car out of warranty. ford customer service assigned a case number. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly hesitated and stalled several times without warning. the dealer was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure, so the condition continued. the vehicle was later taken back to the dealer who indicated that the fuel canister and line assembly needed to be replaced. the parts were replaced by an independent mechanic, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer stated that they would investigate the failure. the contact was waiting for a solution from the manufacturer. the failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to decrease in speed and was unable to accelerate. the dealer diagnosed that the engine, alternator, and wiring failed. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 58,000.
The car will stall while driving at any giving time you can restart it and it will go until you hit third gear then it will stall everytime.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled. the vehicle was able to restart and resume driving. the failure recurred twice. in addition, when the vehicle stalled, smoke appeared inside the vehicle. the dealer was unable to locate a failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
On 8/09/16 my escape stalled repeatedly while driving on a rural highway at 50 mph. limped to the dealership on 8/10/16. dropped my vehicle off about 10 a.m. mechanic searched most of that day but did not find problem, early the next morning found problem, it was the splice in the electrical wiring harness could not send proper signal to the engine. my car was previously recalled to correct this problem. recall 14s17-s1. currently ford issued a recall again to start on january 4 2016. i had to pay to have the splice problem fixed, asked, dealer why should i pay for a ford manufacturing problem. they said my vin number was not on the ford recall list. this problem has been ongoing since 2013, vin number should not give ford a excuse to select a controlled list of escapes so they do not have to pay for fixing this problem, no matter when it occurs just an excuse so they save money by sticking it to the dealer or customer. ford should honor the above recall no matter how old the car is.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving various speeds, the windshield sensor failed to function. the failure recurred numerous times. in addition, while driving 60 mph and changing gears, the vehicle lost power and stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the electronic sensor and transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 20 mph, the battery warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact had to turn off the air conditioning in order for the vehicle to restart. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 49,043. updated 12/20/16*lj *tr
Got the same wiring harness problems as recall #15v81300 but it seems my vehicle is not included. are the dates of manufacture too restricted? do i have one of those improperly made harnesses?
Purchased used 2013 ford escape vehicle with approximately 33k miles in october of 2014. purchased extended warranty as warranty was due to expire at 36k miles. a week or two after purchase, car stalled. in the shop it went. several months later check engine light came on. in the shop it went again. multiple times later car has been in the shop again for same "check engine light" for 2-3 weeks at a time; transmission replaced twice. the car was back in shop again last week for same issue check engine light this time dealer claims purge valve issue.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off without warning. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it, but the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall; however, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v597000 (air bags, seat belts). the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
After starting my 2013 ford escape, the instrument cluster information display with system warnings and only odometer display went blank. technicians checked for a bad fuse, but none found. also, found that there is a recall (15c03 - reprogram instrument panel cluster) issued against 2014 ford escape for the same issue.
My 2013 ford escape's information display with all required information and odometer reading has gone blank all of a sudden. the vehicle was stationary at the time. i addressed this issue to ford and the ford dealer, but they don't care to help me and asking me to pay too much amount to replace it. how can i pay too much amount for replacing this if its there manufacturing defect. i know as per federal law this is must and the screen cannot happen on this case to any vehicle. its definitely a much needed thing and its not a fault from the user. they said there is no recall for information cluster. when i searched , i found many recalls (15c03 recall) which they said my car cannot be included since it is 2013 model. please help me. this is really a safety issue. i am scheduled by colonial ford, danbury on 6/27/16 to check the problem and i have end up paying too much money. please consider this complaint and please take actions as soon as possible. thank you *tr
We came to a stop at a stop sign on a city side street. the engine died and would crank over but not restart. this has happened twice. ablown fuse was found labeled vehicle power. no codes were found. no other problems have occurred. the second time was on a highway when we had to make a sudden stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle lost power. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the service engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wires in the engine needed to be re-spliced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v813000 (electrical system) and 14v495000 (electrical system), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 63,000. updated 08/05/16* consumer stated the safety issue was the engine sputtering and failing to accelerate. this could be a problem if it happened when pulling into traffic or crossing an intersections. our experience and the repairs (see attached) are identical to the described on other 2013 ford escape recalls leading the consumer to believe those recalls did not include all problem vehicles. updated 6/11/18*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine coolant and temperature warning indicators kept intermittently flashing. the contact refilled the coolant fluid and the warning indicators went off. as the failure progressed, the vehicle hesitated, there was a loss of power, an abnormal noise was heard, and the temperature high warning indicator illuminated. the contact made an appointment with maxwell ford (512-916-2661, 5000 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745) on november 19, 2018 to have the vehicle diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000. *tt consumer stated there were signs of engine overheating. the engine coolant has been issue since purchasing the vehicle.*jb
A warning indicator will appear on the dash stating "engine malfunction service now". the car shudders, jerks, hesitates and can stall when the throttle is pushed. pulling over, powering the car down, and turning it back on seems to temporarily resolve it. issue may be associated with high temperatures since this was serviced in august of 2016. after 5 trips to the dealer with repairs related to the wiring harness, i was told it was resolved. the problem has recurred starting in june of this year. went to the ford dealer again and they failed to diagnose. drove it to the dealer in failure mode with warning displayed to prove there is an issue. this happens when in motion. i have video of the error display.
Engine fault service now light comes on frequently. dealership replace map sensor. worked for one week. continues to happen which causes car to hesitate and stall. garage says i have to drive it there when message comes on without shutting it off as the code clears upon shut down. impossible to continue to drive a stalling car on the freeway to the garage. now the computer screen above the steeing wheel went out. less than 40,000 miles on the car. fault message occurs when starting the car. continues to happen.
I have had three issues with check engine lights coming on from november through may. i've had two coolant sensor valves replaced and now have another code for cylinder head temperature sensor. this is three times in six months and i've spent close to $1,000 in repairs and the codes keep coming up. i even had the car temperature spike and the vehicle idle funny as sensors indicated my car was overheating. i believe ford should look into this for a possible recall.
My engine light came on and my car started to stall and not drive. it started to skip and at as if it was not going to go while driving. when i stopped it started to act as if it was going to cut off in the street. i had to get it towed to a dealership. they said it was my engine wiring system. cost 500 dollars to fix.
First problem april 2016 - engine shaking at 55/60 mph - rear transaxle mount replaced 5/3/16 second problem - car stalling and shaking / but not turning off - towed 5/11/16 - replaced main harness wiring 5/12/16 third problem - car stalled / not starting - towed again 5/12/16 - replaced left ac mount, now to replace right ac mount. still at dealer - 5/31/16
Vehicle sold to me as part of military car sales program overseas. when attempting to fulfill recalls at overseas location, ford dealership said they are unable to acquire the parts necessary for completing the recalls in the uk.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure was unable to be undetermined. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred multiple times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v813000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 18,000.
Purchased vehicle in august of 2014 with 28,000 miles on it. about 2-3 weeks ago the vehicle just stalked, lost all power then died on my wife with my 19 month old baby girl in the car. vehicle starts right back up when this occurs. it happens a couple of times a week and is very dangerous. sometimes it will die when you are trying to accelerate or merge into traffic. took it to the same ford dealer we purchased the vehicle from and they were able to replicate the problem. however, no codes are present in the vehicle even when it happens. the ford service writer and technician said that it was the throttle body. the vehicle has 52,000 miles on it however i was told no warranty or recall covered the replacement of the throttle body. i paid for the throttle body repair. less than 48 hours later the vehicle dies again on my wife while pulling out of our neighborhood. again with my child in the back seat.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact had to stop and restart the vehicle. the vehicle was driven to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact also stated that the failure recurred every day. the approximate failure mileage was 38,300.
Correspondence with flood ford of east greenwich, ri to: michael whyte (ford service adviser), re: crash risk with 2013 ford escape (stalling while driving and also lack of being able to accelerate vehicle while engine is running). vehicle was brought to 2 different ford dealers for same problem and was told that they could diagnose and/or replicate problem. this issue and circumstance has been reported numerous times upon goggle searches (please see below). i contacted the ford customer relationship center again today to document the situation surrounding our vehicle (case # 8980601). please note that i had contacted them originally on february 29th (case #8916920) and they referred me to the flood dealership after we had brought the vehicle to the tasca dealership on february 28th and 29th. they tried to contact the service department at flood ford at 4:00pm today but were not able to get through. i also contacted the consumers for auto reliability and safety and they responded back with the following message and strongly emphasized not to drive the vehicle because of the potential crash risk. i am also in the process of reporting the defect to the national highway traffic safety administration and have also contacted the wjar consumer advocate department surrounding our dilemma to see if they can help us as well. hopefully the experts at ford can help provide additional insights as to how to best address this situation. with best regards, victor http://www.autonews.com/article/20140815/oem11/140819918/ford-recalls- > 2013 -escape-for-11th-time-this-time-for-wiring-problem > > > http://m.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2013/engine/engine_stalls_shuts > _do > wn_while_driving.shtml > > http://www.lemonlaw.com/wordpress/ford-escape-stalling-problems-contin > ue- > 160000-vehicles-recalled/
Since january 18, my car has stalled many time while driving, has been to the dealership six times, not fixed, always unable to replicate. it has now been there for a week, trying to replicate the stalling. it has stalled while diving out of my driveway, on side streets, and twice on the highway. no engine lights go on, it just stalls. the radiator, the map sensor and now the battery have been replaced, still no fix. the water pump was replaced after a recall in 2014 after overheating and coolant leaks.
Driving on the interstate when the car lost all power and all warning lights came on. i pulled onto the shoulder and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. got out to get a better look when the engine compartment burst into flames.
