while merging into traffic engine shut down to limp home mode check engine light with p2111 & p2112 codes indicating a throttle body position error. checked all connections at pedal, pcm, and throttle body test drive again same result. cleaned throttle body with sensor safe cleaner with the same result. impossible to drive in traffic continuously going into limp home. extremely dangerous at speed as there is no indication when it may occur close calls with person following in traffic.. *tr
Was driving down the highway at 60 mph with the cruise control on. vehicle lost power like you had kicked the cruise off. pushed on the accelerator but nothing happened. shut vehicle off and restarted and it worked fine. went about a mile down the road and it did it again. had it towed to a ford dealership and they said it was the throttle body which they said would cost $300 plus the cost for towing. this was dangerous because i could have been hit from behind when it suddenly decelerated. *tr
Driving the car would result in the car to stall. this is an automatic vehicle. i would have to put into neutral to restart car. then the rpm would jump then stall again. i took in the vehicle to be repaired and found code that the throttle body was stuck closed so the car would be able to drive without the throttle body being replaced. after fixed the problem went away. the problem is $500 later after the repair and the car had not even broke the 50k yet. very bad problem and seems a if i am no the only one. after looking it up to see if i could get the parts myself i saw that this is happening to a lot of different ford vehicles at the same time in the same range of years. this is a huge problem and just glad the kids weren't in the cars as i was driving on the interstate. *tr
I was traveling at approximately 60mph when my ford escape completely stalled and s service light came on. as i tried to move out of traffic i was nearly hit by multiple vehicles coming from both directions. i had the vehicle towed to the ford dealership assuming this would be covered under power train warranty. after explaining to the service department what had happened, before they looked at my vehicle, they knew exactly what it was. apparently, the problem with the throttle body is so common they can't keep the parts in stock. this problem causes the vehicle to stall or surge forward, usually at rates of speed exceeding 40mph. i was informed that ford does not consider this part of the power train. $401.04 later i had my vehicle back. as i was paying the service cashier informed me that this was the 12th that had fixed that week (it was only wednesday) and to hold onto my receipt because it really should be recalled. *tr
I was making a left turn from a road with a 45 mph limit. i just initiated the turn when it felt like i lost all power & was barely coasting. i waited 'til the road was clear to turn, but now there were 2 cars bearing down on me sounding their horns & with squealing tires as they attempted to avoid hitting me. i barely made it out of the intersection. at what felt like one mph, i drove onto the shoulder, turned off the car & gathered my wits as i was terrified. turned the car back on & it was the same, but noticed a wrench on the display. turned my car off & called my mechanic for a tow. while waiting, tried turning the car on again & it worked. drove to the mechanic & he said it was a throttle body assembly problem, but no code had been set in the computer. he called schaumburg ford & they said unless a code was set, it was not covered by warranty. i would have to drive the car 'til it failed again & set the code--like driving a time bomb! the next day i went to hopkins ford where i bought the car 6/30/12 & they said the throttle body assembly failed the test, so it would be covered by warranty, but that it would be at least july before they could get the part because so many have failed & are on order. i would have to drive the car 'til then. later that day they contacted me & said ford advised this would not be covered by warranty & the service person estimated the repair at over $500. with this many failed throttle body assemblies, this sounds like a recall item. sure hope i don't get killed or kill somebody while i wait for the part. *tr
While driving on the expressway crg g5 at 45mph the engine stalled, with no more power supplied to the car and it rolled to a full stop. the electronic throttle did not operate to accelerate or drive the car any more. the vehicle had to be towed away. the check-engine light and 'wrench' light are on, the associated dtc code is p2112. *tr
I was driving to work on rt. 80 in nj at about 70 mph in the fast lane when all of a sudden there was no power. i would hit the gas and nothing. fortunately, my steering and braking was not affected and i was able to coast to the shoulder and turn the truck off. before that, i noticed the wrench light was lit on the dashboard. i sat for a minute while i looked in my owner's manual to see what the wrench light was for and it said throttle. i turned it back on and after a brief hesitation, it turned over. i pulsed the gas to make sure it was working, then slowly merged back onto the highway. i called my dealership to tell them what happened and they were very nice and asked me to bring it in asap. since i was almost at work, i said i'd call him back and went to the ford dealership near my office. there i was told this was a "known issue" and even if it was what he "thought" it was, he was nasty and said "there aren't any parts available anyway..." i asked him if the truck was safe to drive and he hesitated and said "yeah...it should be and that it is a "sporadic" issue." i left that dealership and drove to my office. i called my local dealership back and told them this. they said to bring it in the next day (saturday) and they would take care of me. this dealership (magarino in sussex, nj) is amazing! they are helpful, truly care about their customers and made sure that my truck was safe before i left. even though i didn't have an appointment, they still made the time to get me in! they did have the part in stock, ran all the necessary tests, replaced the part and reprogrammed the computer so that everything would be ok. $400 later (part not under warranty), i was heading home. i hope this helps the possible recall investigation so that no one else has to go through the terrifying and hopeless feeling that i had this past friday. *tr
When traveling on highway, vehicle suddenly goes into a limp mode and the "wrench" warning light comes on. vehicle is able to travel perhaps 30 seconds to one minute further unable to accelerate and seemed to be forced deceleration. i pulled over and turned the car off. i turned the car back on after a few seconds and the warning light was no longer illuminated and i was able to proceed to my destination. per manual, the "wrench" warning light is for throttle/power train and illuminates when a power train fault has been detected. have appointment with dealer service in two days. *tr
Vehicle went into limp-home mode while under light acceleration. had to be towed to dealership. dealer diagnosed as throttle body failure. *tr
Driving the car we start to excel and the car shuts down due to the throttle body not functioning right. *tr
I am a single female and keep my vehicle maintenance up to date. i do not have anyone to call on to help in times of car trouble. the engine would lose power and start to 'coast' to a stop at varying speeds, including on an interstate. i had to pull the car over, turn it off, and restart. the restart was always troublesome. once the dealership looked at the car, i was told i would have to wait at least 2 weeks for a replacement part. i had to deal with this issue for 2 weeks, putting myself and any passenger in danger of being involved in and causing a major car accident. i called the dealer 2 weeks later; the dealer did not contact me. i picked up the part and had it installed. i also purchased a cabin air filter in order to have that replaced at the same time. to my surprise, the car did not even have a cabin air filter installed when i purchased the new vehicle. i have never had that filter replaced. i have severe allergies and currently take 2 shots. i was not happy to discover the air entering my car was helping to contribute to my problems with my allergies. i will not purchase another ford. their customer service does not promote repeat customers. ford does not stand behind their vehicles and are not concerned with the safety of their customers. *tr
I was traveling approximately 70 mph on the interstate. my car shifted quickly into a low gear and the wrench light came on the dashboard indicating a powertrain failure. i was able to maneuver off the freeway and shut the car down. it would start up again, and we limped into the ford dealership which was about 1/4 mile away. the dealership replaced the "throttle body" and indicated i was the "third one this week". *tr
While driving westbound on i-10 towards houston, tx, as i came upon rush hour traffic and let off of the accelerator, the engine stalled. i was at an exit and was able to shift to neutral and coast to a stop at a convenience store on the service road. after waiting a few minutes i was able to restart the car and proceeded to get back on i-10 to continue to my destination. as soon as i ran into traffic again and let off of the gas petal, the same thing happened again. i was able to shift to neutral and re-start the vehicle while i was still coasting. this continued for the next 10 miles or so as i attempted to get to the hotel i was staying at, with the engine stalling whenever i released the accelerator, approximately 10 - 12 more times. as i was stuck in rush hour traffic in a strange city, the only way to keep moving forward was to drive with 2 feet; 1 on the accelerator petal and 1 on the brake petal. i would have shift to neutral and press the gas petal to increase rpms in order to keep the engine from stalling. fortunately it did restart every time and i made it to my destination without getting in a wreck. the car was dropped off at joe myers ford in houston, tx, on 6/6/13 @ 7:00am to be checked. upon inspection i was told there is a problem with the throttle assembly and it would need to be replaced. the part is on backorder and won't be in for 3 weeks. i'm 1,500 miles out of the manufacturers warranty, so they called my extended warrant company to arrange for a rental so i can drive back home to new orleans, la. the extended warranty will only pay for 5 days of the rental, so i am awaiting a call back from ford to see how to proceed with both the rental until my vehicle is repaired and the timing of how long this repair will take. *tr
In heavy traffic the vehicle loss power with no response from throttle. managed to pulled out of traffic and notice engine still running and check engine and wrench light on, still no throttle response. turned off engine and waited 30 minutes. restarted engine appeared to ran fine. started down the road got about 5 miles and the same thing happened again. had vehicle towed to dealer. they told me the throttle body was bad and it would be 2 or more weeks to get the part if we are luckily. they offered no loaner car and told me i could rent a car. *tr
While driving car started to shimmy, then would no longer accelerate. turned off. restarted and was able to drive home. on the way to the repair shop on june 3, 2013, while driving the car started to shimmy then would no longer accelerate. turned off. restarted and was able to drive to the repair shop. *tr
Vehicle surged after a stop and would not go. had to coast off side of road and shut down and re-start vehicle. has done this multiple times. the throttle body was the culprit per the ford technician. part is backordered due to high demand for part. the throttle body is the highest part on order through ford, indicating an issue with this. *tr
Driving on interstate at 65mph and vehicle just no longer had any. accelerator response i pressed repeatedly as vehicles were behind and to the left of me. no response i had to immediately cut hard right off interstate to side of road, vehicle was running rough and engine repair indicator came on still no accelerator response i put vehicle in park turned off ignition and restarted. vehicle restarted will engine indicator still on but now had accelerator response. brought to dealer diagnosed as defective throttle body, is on national back order because of failures and was told it is highly unusual for that part to go, especially will so few miles. *tr
Driving down i-55 in st. louis, my car lost power. i pulled to the shoulder without incident. the engine was still running but the throttle was inoperative. turned the key off, waited a few seconds, and started the car. it ran fine, like rebooting a computer. this happened a couple of times before on side streets and it happened one more time before i got home on i-55. went to the dealer with check engine light on. $98 for diagnosis, throttle body problem. back order for over 30 days, so this must be a bigger problem. they cleaned the throttle body and fuel system, another $140, which they said would help until the part came in. car just out of warranty 2700 miles. kinda scary to lose power when your in traffic. *tr
On may 23rd we were traveling on an interstate at about 65mph and suddenly the car lost acceleration, we were able to pull over to side of road and luckily able to avoid other cars. we turned off engine and it started again but was very apprehensive. the car did ok until july 20th when we stopped at a light and when we started the acceleration was gone again, we were able to get to side of road but it took 3 tries to get it started again. we tried to get home before it happened again but about 2 miles from our home it died again. we were on a 2 lane road but was able to pull into someone's driveway and it took several times to get it started and we tried to get back on road but it died again. after a couple more tries it started and we were able to make it home. we had to call a tow truck to take it to the dealer because we were afraid it would happen again and could have had an accident. we have only had the car for 2 yrs and it only has around 38000 miles. *tr
Vehicle was accelerated to cross an intersection and engine decelled to an idle condition - this happened at speed also - very dangerous loss of power without notice - almost caused an accident. was very intermittent to begin with - dealer attempted tshoot and repair but no codes found - next day after dealer attempt problem happened numerous times and the dealer determined a bad throttle body. *tr
My ford escape was stopping multiple times. it would stay running in very slow movement until i could pull over out of traffic and then it would shut down. then wrench light would be lit. i had this happen while driving side roads and the interstate. this was very unsafe. i first took it to a dealer near my home and they could not find anything wrong. when this happened one morning on the interstate, i called the dealer i bought the vehicle from and took it in. they called me later that day and stated that the issue was the throttle body control, they stated that since my vehicle was no longer under warranty that i would have to pay for the replacement and that they had to order the part. it seems that these were an issue and the could not receive from manufacture right away due to a release issue. they finally were able to obtain one and i had to pay $371.79 for this to be fixed. even though i was no longer under warranty i feel that i should not have had to pay this, from doing research it seems to be a manufactures issue. *tr
Vehicle lost power - was running but could not accelerate. turned car off and restarted and it was operating correctly. called dealership service to inquire if they know what might have happened. they advised they had never heard of that before. incident occurred 2 additional times over the next few months. last time vehicle was out of warranty. took to dealership and we were advised car out of warranty. we insisted there was a problem and it was dangerous to operate. they would not tow so we drove vehicle to dealership and they replaced throttle body assembly. we were only charged a $75 deductible. vehicle has not been operated enough to determine if problem is fixed. *tr
Vehicle was being driven between 25 and 40 mph and complete loss of drive power/speed occurred (vehicle abruptly slows to ~4 mph). immediate response to get vehicle to side of road to avoid a collision. this has occurred 4 times in the past 3 weeks (two incidents on 5/19/13). vehicle will be taken to dealer for inspection/repair week of 5/19/13. engine stays running at idle, but very rough when in drive. if placed in neutral, engine runs, but will not rev up with gas pedal. no throttle response when issue occurs. after key off and 30 second wait and restart, vehicle performs as intended. no mil lights on dashboard. this is a serious issue. *tr
As i was driving, my vehicle with no warning lost power. the engine was still running, but roughly. i could press the accelerator, but it no longer caused the vehicle to accelerate. after waiting for help to arrive, i cut the vehicle off and then tried to restart. the vehicle started fine. i took it to a mechanic who thought the throttle box may be gunked up. i paid to have it cleaned out and for a gas additive to decrease the likelihood that it would happen again. a couple of days later, my escape stalled again in the same way and with the same results. it has happened 3 times now since may 2nd. i realize there is an investigation into the failure of the throttle body in ford escapes including the 2011 model. what is described in the throttle body failure situations is exactly what i am experiencing with my vehicle. i have been fortunate to be in curb lanes and able to maneuver safely off the road each of the times this has happened. if i happen to be in a center highway lane when it happens, i may not be fortunate enough to have an opportunity to restart my vehicle safely. *tr
My daughter was driving the car in florida going approximately 45 mph. the red light with a wrench came on and the car would not accelerate. she finally got pulled over to the side of the highway and called the dealership in orlando. they told her it could be a throttle body problem or it could just be trying to reset. they suggested she turn everything off (which she already had) and restart in a few minutes. she restarted and everything seemed fine. about a week later, the same thing happened, only worse, and she took the car in to the dealership. it seemed to happen as she was turning a corner. she had to restart the car 3 or 4 times on the way to the dealership. they ran a diagnostic test and said the throttle body needed to be replaced. so far, it's been a week and it is still not fixed because they cannot find the part. she has had to rent a car until the escape is fixed. another expense! evidently, 45,000 of these throttle bodies have been replaced and they are using the parts up as fast as they can make them. how safe can this be???!!! we plan to have it repaired, but we should not have to pay for this ford problem. *tr
On 27 april 2013 at approximately 0930, i was driving my 2011 ford escape at 70mph on i-475 on my way from macon, ga to atlanta, ga when i lost all power and control of my gas pedal/throttle body system. i felt a jerking motion of the vehicle, it began to decelerate, and i noticed the wrench icon light was illuminated on the dash. i did not lose power to the rest of my vehicle, only the ability of the gas pedal to accelerate. i was able to coast across a lane of traffic and come to a stop on the side of the interstate. after turning off the car, i was able to restart it, the warning light turned off, and i once again had power to the gas pedal. after driving approximately 10 more miles, the exact same problem happened again. i was then able to get my vehicle to the ford dealership, who told me i had a faulty throttle body assembly. they said the throttle was sticking in the closed position and had to be replaced. with so many vehicles having this same problem, i feel this is a major safety concern. i am extremely lucky the interstate was not busy at the time my vehicle stalled twice and my family was not seriously injured or killed from a rear-end collison. *tr
I was traveling on the highway at 70 mph when the vehicle suddenly just began slowing down. the wrench warning light came on but did not make a noise to indicate a problem. the gas pedal would not work. i was able to safely veer off to the shoulder because, luckily, i was in the slow lane. *tr
While driving down a road going approx. 50mph, i suddenly, and without warning, lost power to the vehicle. pulled over to the side of the road and while applying the brakes, it would tend to lunge forward. once stopped, i placed in park, shut off engine the attempted to start up again. it did start up, however, it happened 2 more times later that day. i would hate for this to happen while trying to make a left hand turn with oncoming traffic....could be deadly!!! ford needs to step up to the plate and make this right as i have now read far too many complaints about this exact same thing. the next occurrence could be injury or even death. i should note that as of 1 week later, i have not had the problem fixed yet and the incident described above has happened at least 2 times per day now. *tr
I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my car started slowing down and my gas pedal would not accelerate my car. when i pulled over, my car was jumping on the side of the road. once i took it to 2 different dealerships, got stranded on the side of the road 4 times, paid $80 for them to run some tests and tell me there was nothing wrong with my car at the first dealership, the second dealership then speculated that it was my throttle body. when i asked them to fix it, i was told the part was on national backorder and there was no telling how long it would be before they got the part in. so they sent me away in my broken car and told me the problem would probably start occurring more frequently until it was fixed. if that is not a clue to the ford company that they need to do a recall, then i do not know what is. everyone is obviously experiencing these problems and it happened to me 1,000 miles outside of my warranty. i am irate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr ## vin failed ##
Car would violently buck while loosing power. wrench light came on then disappeared. seams to be a random ghost that visits every 2 weeks. had map sensor replaced under warranty then 2 wks later happened again. this time paid for throttle body. 2 wks went by and it happened again. this time didn't. go to dealer. not sure but i think it might be throttle body again if it is infact the problem. car sucks. same problem over and over. *tr
Check engine light came on and vehicle lost power and died. pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle for a few minutes, then turned it on and was able to proceed for another 5-6 miles, then the issue repeated. check engine light remained on, however. finally was able to complete my trip without further incident. this same issue happened again about a week later, with the same outcome as the first time it happened. scheduled a repair for 11/14/12 at which time i was informed that there was a default code p1450. cannister was full of fuel. evaporator canister, pipe and valve were replaced. total for the repair $557.16 plus sales tax because vehicle mileage exceeded 36,000 warranty ceiling. then on may 16, 2013, while on vacation, vehicle had similar problems - engine light came on, vehicle lost power and died... pulled over, turned off vehicle, turned it back on and was able to make it to the next town with a ford dealership where we had a diagnostic run on the vehicle. this time the codes were p0685 and p2112, which required the replacement of the throttle body and motor assembly which cost another $314.18 plus sales tax. i have since received a letter from ford stating that the throttle body is now being covered under the customer satisfaction program 13n03, but wonder why there is not similar coverage for the evaporator cannister issue. *tr
As i was pulling away from the intersection, i lost all throttle. i had no power at all, it wanted to stall and i had nowhere to pull over from the inside lane. the driver behind me almost rear ended me. i had to stop in the middle of traffic with my hazard lights on. this is a serious safety issue, this should not happen on a new vehicle that has only 36,000 miles. *tr
I was driving on i-75 south, atlanta area, 55 mph, when my ford escape 2011 lost all power and i coasted to side of road during rush hour --- very scary, and very dangerous. took vehicle to ford service and was charged $474.15 to replace defective throttle body (not covered under transmission, engine, powertrain warranty). read on-line that there are many other ford owners experiencing this same dangerous problem. sure hope you will warn other ford owners and organize a recall. please let me know if there is anyone else i can contact to move a recall forward. *tr
While driving the wrench light came on and the car just died, had to pull over, the 2nd time i was going on a busy interstate and going about 70 mph i was lucky there was a place to pull off the road, but then the check engine light came on, and stayed on for the entire trip. when i arrived home and shut the car off and started it again the light was off. i looked into this since i have elderly people i take to and from dr. visits and this seems to be an ongoing problem since 2005 , i have read the complaints on line, my question is does someone have to be in a bad accident or even die before ford will resolve this problem? *tr
Driving approximately 40-45 mph when engine jerked and shut down. lost speed and noticed the now no speed / idling engine running very rough. the wrench symbol appeared on instrument cluster indicating throttle/powertrain issue. restarted car and drove approximately 2 blocks when the engine shut down again, this time the check engine light appeared as well as the wrench symbol. luckily we were able to limp home several blocks. immediately began a search the internet for similar issues and discovered that many people had experienced the same issue with their escape models. took it to the mechanic who did a computer check and indicated p-2011 and p-2012 codes. also noted in my search where many folks think a recall is in order........i completely agree. the part is faulty and will cause an accident in the future if it is ignored. was able to get the vehicle to the dealership for repairs. the mechanic at the dealership told me they had at least two occurrences a week with the escapes, fusion, and similar cars that used the throttle part. the internet search revealed the magnitude of the problem indicating a major problem with the throttle part. recall? you bet before someone get hurt.. *tr
I was setting at an intersection pulling out in to oncoming traffic and vehicle died. this has happened on numerous occasions in the past year. at times when i try to stop it feels as though the vehicle is still pulling with foot completely clear of accelerator. *tr
Driving down interstate. suddenly i lost fuel power. engine remained on. surges of swaying or ward & backwards prior to loss of fuel power. resembled like it was out of gas, however i had 3/4 of a tank full. i pulled over, turned off for a few minutes, restarted. well, it happens a lot now. had a new fuel filter, ga treatment, new gasoline etc. it happens daily. finally engine light was on, i took to dealership, they said it was p2111 & p2112. fuel actuator stuck open, other stuck closed. i am a nurse marketer, single mom i four and i bought this vehicle new a little over a year ago. i don't have the 700.00 to have to fix this problem. nonetheless, i am lucky i haven't been killed yet on the interstate by this problem. i'm having to borrow a cr now. this is unacceptable. a recall needs to be issued. after googling, this has been an ongoing problem with ford since at least 2004. does anybody really care about our lives & our children's lives. let's get this fixed. ford should be ashamed. *tr
Small surges just after stops. total loss of power at highway speeds. july 2012 showed the check engine light, and had to coast to side of the road, gas pedal totally dead, engine and car still running. turn off and restart and all check engine lights go away and car acts normally. dealership found no codes. june 2013 again total loss of power at highway speeds, this time powertrain light comes on, and the car has to coast to the side of the road, gas pedal totally dead, engine and car still running. turn off and restart and all powertrain lights go away and car acts normally. this loss of power has happened 15-20 times to date from july 2012 to july 2013. *tr
I was driving to work on a saturday when all of a sudden my car stopped working. completely turned off and i had to find a way to quickly pull the vehicle on the side of the road. i waited several minutes, tried to start the car again with no success.then i called my insurance company and towed the car to the nearest ford dealership. i was told there was noting wrong with the car, just the fuel injection needed to be cleaned. several months later , i experienced the same episode. my husband both some fuel injection cleaner again, but the car still stoles. i do drive a lot with two children, and i am constantly concern something bad will happen on the road. *tr
Engine began to stall intermittently at different speeds. restart vehicle and it would run fine until without warning it would stall again. the wrench would light up on dashboard when stalling. took vehicle to ford to have checked out, was told throttle body needed to be replaced. of course it was out of warranty. three hundred forty five dollars later it seemed to be repaired, that is until today 09/21/2013 it started to have the same stalling condition. will be taking it back to have it checked out again asap before it causes an accident. the vehicle now has 62,328 miles on it. we also have trouble with the check engine light coming on intermittently. the obd indicates the o2 sensors are not heating up properly. this seems to mostly happen when the weather is cold or sometimes when it rains. weird ! thank you so much for your assistance in this matter. automakers need to be held responsible by some one for selling unreliable and dangerous vehicles to us and then expect us to keep paying for their mistakes! thank you
I was driving on a mayor highway a 65/70 mph when the vehicle lost power, was not able to accelerate, coasted to the side, an orange wrench sign and check engine sign appear on the dash, after turning vehicle on and off several times it went back to normal, this happened several times over the last year and a half, the first time dealer claimed there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and charged me $ 74.95 for a" throttle body service" ( thank you hemborg ford - norco, california ) took vehicle back to dealer a year later 7-23 2013 and was informed that the etb (electronic throttle body ) needed to be replaced ( same part that i paid $74.95 to have it "cleaned" before) now this vehicle misfire and jerks on take off from a dead stop. i call ford, but was told that there is not an service call or recall for this particular vehicle. *tr
