Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2011 Ford Escape

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving approximately 62 mph with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stopped, turned off, and restarted the vehicle for it to operate normally. the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic, but the failure recurred. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the cause of the failure was not determined. the failure mileage was 150,000.

Driving on street and engine shut down. restarted engine and could not accelerate to more than 20 mph. i pulled off of street and shut engine off for about a minute. restarted engine and every thing worked fine except check engine light was on and cruise control would not work.

The throttle body of my ford escape 2011 seems to be malfunctioning, since it has a drive by wire system, i want to complain about the defects ford cars have been having surrounding its throttle functionality. whenever i am accelerating from a stop light or on the highway, the car jumps forward and starts to shake, and then simply does not accelerate. it happens sporadically, and after an inspection from a mechanic, it's showing that the throttle body is malfunctioning, and the codes showing that it is simultaneously open and closed. it is an issue that ford vehicles up to 2012 seemed to have been getting. i have experienced this issue since 50,000 miles on the car of 2 years ago, and it's been happening sporadically, maybe once a month, or once every 10 minutes.

Ford consumer satisfaction program 13n03. related to etb. car randomly would not accelerate - had to pull over three times while driving on the highway to turn car on and off. after turning car on, it was like nothing had happened.

Tl* the contact owned a 2011 ford escape. while stationary, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and crashed into a stone wall. the driver sustained a fractured left arm, various body bruises, right and left leg injuries, and facial lacerations. the vehicle was destroyed and towed. a police report was not filed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 77,188. updated 12/23/16*lj updated 01/05/17.*jb

Driving on my way home my wrench light turned on. my car started hesitating and couldn't have control of my speed. i checked the manual and the it read the problem was some issue with the throttle body. taking it to ford dealership to see what they will say /fix.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. while driving at any speed, the rpms increased and the contact heard a clicking noise. afterwards, the vehicle accelerated on its own. the issue recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Vehicle would engage in jerky motion and reduced power when accelerating to highway speed followed by "throttle fault light" on instrument panel. more jerky motion during downshift/deceleration. odb2 code p2119

6 times suddenly lost acceleration without warning while driving. 4th, 5th and 6th time on 8/3/2016 on u.s. 25 at about 55 to 60 mph all in one day. no response from gas pedal, tachometer dropped to 0, wrench light came on. was able to coast to side of road. maintained pwr steering/brakes. shut off engine, restarted/worked fine, wrench light off. mileage about 65,000. 1st, 2nd it happened on side roads in town and the 3rd i was on a busy road in lexington ky on versailles road where semis were everywhere and i thought i was gonna get hit then. wrench light came on while decelerating, light and throttle reset upon shutting of and restarting car. ford says they will not repair unless code is present, code erases when car is shut off and will not drive until car is shut off and restarted. these incidents fit description of ford "field service action" for electronic throttle body extended coverage. v dangerous!! i do not want to be driving this vehicle with it doing all of this especialyyy if i have my grandkids in the vehicle with me.

While driving, my check engine light came on. actually the first light to come on was the power train indicator. while pressing accelerator, the speed continued to decrease. i was in rush hour traffic and it really scared me. i pulled into a parking lot and was unable to take it to an automotive repair shop because it was late in the evening. the next morning i drove slowly to treadquarters auto service center and after describing the symptoms was told they needed to do a computer scan and then was told i needed a throttle body immediately. if not installed as soon as possible, i may end up stranded somewhere. i was also told ford knows about the problem with this part and have yet to do anything about it. is this true? have i just paid an exorbitant amount of money to replace a part that ford knows is problematic?? i have several ford vehicles and am a loyal customer but i will not purchase another if this company knowingly put me in danger.

3 times suddenly lost acceleration without warning while driving. 1st time on 6/17/16 on interstate at 70mph: no response from gas pedal, tachometer dropped to 0, wrench light came on. was able to coast to side of road. maintained pwr steering/brakes. shut off engine, restarted/worked fine, wrench light off. mileage about 64,920. 2nd & 3rd time same happened driving on country roads (on 6/22/16 mileage about 64,993 and on 7/7/16 mileage about 65,330). wrench light came on while decelerating, light and throttle reset upon shutting of and restarting car. ford says they will not repair unless code is present, code erases when car is shut off and will not drive until car is shut off and restarted. these incidents fit description of ford "field service action" for electronic throttle body extended coverage. v dangerous! the first time it happened my 20 year old daughter was driving on the interstate. sudden deceleration in interstate traffic on i-80 in western pa could've had deadly result!

I was driving down the street and my vehicle started to idle funny, like it was going to stop running and it would not accelerate at all, i had to coast to the side of the street. when i pressed the gas pedal it would not accelerate or do anything almost like it was disconnected. the engine light also came on at this time. my fiancee' came to where i was at and he shut the vehicle off and then started it back up and the engine light was off and the vehicle was back to running again like nothing ever happened. i have read several complaints about the throttle body being bad and that ford and ford garages where refusing to fix the problem with all the vehicles doing this and i think that is so wrong on many levels due to ford being a top manufacturer of vehicles they should stand by the vehicles and fix any problems that occur with the vehicles. i don't have any warranty and i am on limited income and cannot afford to pay a big tow bill or play for a major repair. *tr

I have a 2011 ford escape. i was driving on a 2 way street and the gas pedal stopped working out of nowhere and i could not accelerate. luckily i was able to coast to the side before getting rear ended. what is frustrating about this is ford had a recall a couple years ago for my make and model for a bad throttle .. same exact issue i had where i was driving and couldnt accelerate. instead of replacing the throttle they gave 1.6 million customer satisfaction program warranties.. so basically you had to have an issue before it would be replaced. i called ford corp 5/23/16 and because my vin# wasnt one in the recall they will not pay for my $400 bill. it is the same exact issue as the recall but since my vin# is different they wont pay. how does that make any sense. luckily i didnt get into an accident . i find it incomprehensible that ford recalls the throttle body in their cars and will not do the right thing and pay for mine. i drive the highway everyday to work and i cant even imagine if it failed on the highway. all because i dont have the right vin#.. maybe they need to consider expanding their vin#'s. this is a very serious issue and the fact they dont care makes me rethink my next car purchase. we have 2 ford's now and i dont see a 3rd in my future.

While merging onto the interstate the the car suddenly began to accelerate at full throttle. temp ~30 deg, road - dry pavement odometer: 110367.0 miles. the throttle body was replaced in september 2015 by the ford dealer, as well as a new exhaust system at the same time. the check engine light came on the day before. incident: i do not know my actual speed at the time of the incident because i was merging on to the interstate. it was a long ramp, i am pretty sure i was going at least 45mph. i was accelerating to merge on. all of a sudden the engine started to race and the car proceeded to accelerate even faster. i immediately pushed on my brakes which helped to keep me from hitting the vehicle in front of me. the engine continued to race as i was depressing the brake. i shut the engine off and steered my way to the side of the road. i put the car into neutral and once i stopped i put the car into park. i proceeded to try to start the car, but the engine raced like it was at full throttle. i immediately shut it off. i tried two more times with the same result. i called my husband's mechanic whose business was close by to ask his opinion about what to do next. with him listening on the phone, i started the engine, but this time is started up correctly. maybe a total of 10 minutes had passed from the first instance of me having to pull to the side of the road and this last try when it started correctly. i drove the car to the mechanic's business about 5 miles away. i wanted him to check the code for why the check engine light was on and if that was a factor for the throttle issue. the code for the check engine light read: code#: p0456 - (evap) system leak detected ( very small leak). we also checked the floor mats, but there was no issue with them. [the mats did come with the car at time of purchase from the dealer] purchased:11/30/2010

Stalling out in traffic speeding up for no reason.all symptoms point to throttle body exactly what they described to me at my local dealer! but told me they will not fix it until it sets a code !!!!!!!!!!! in the mean time i am afraid i will get hurt because it has stalled in traffic . i am really concerened for my safety.

Our ford stalls then jerks/jumps when accelerating at times. it's starting to happen more often. it mainly happens after turning on and driving it for the first time during that day although there have been times where it will still do it even after it has been running throughout the day.

As i was driving at 50-55 miles an hour my vehicle bucked and lost power and when accelerating it feels as if the car is going to stall. when starting up from a complete stop the car will hesitate when trying to accelerate and bucks.

Going south on i81 to watertown, ny. vehicle quit and i coasted to the side of the highway. tractor-trailer behind me swerved to miss me. almost hit a car coming off the exit ramp, had no power to excelerate to get by him. could have been a wopper of an accident.

Was driving through town, vehicle revved up and then stalled. stopped vehicle, turned off, and restarted. started up without an issue. 3 days later, while driving to work, vehicles wrench indicator light came on and vehicle lost power. restarted okay. as the week progressed, vehicle started losing power several times during my 20 mile trip to work and back, 40 miles round trip. then on 7/7/15, vehicle lost power 4 times on my way home, the second time it lost power the engine indicator light came on and stayed on. it also took longer to restart the vehicle. checked computer for code. code states p 2112, tac system stuck shut. looked up this code and info, and it seems to be related to the throttle body. i found something that states there was a recall on this part, but i was never notified of this. i would like to get this problem fixed so i can drive my vehicle. i'm nervous about driving it as i have poor signal on my cell phone between home and work and dont want to be stranded. please help me in anyway you can.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated while driving with the vehicle on cruise control at 75 mph, the vehicle decelerated. as a result, the vehicle stalled and the service engine soon warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician stated that the vehicle was operating as designed. the vehicle was then taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000. the vin was not available.

While traveling from virginia to michigan on pennsylvania turnpike at a speed of 75 mph my cruise control switched off and the vehicle decelerated. i thought maybe it was because i hit a bump in the road so i tried to engage the cruise control again, it stayed on for a few minutes then disengaged again. this is not the first time this has happened, on a previous trip it did the same thing. i took my vehicle in to the dealer, they couldn't determine the cause. obviously something isn't right, i've seen one other complaint about this. *tr

I was driving on a regular street in my area at the rate of 35. the speed limit is 40, so i decided to increase my speed to that of the speed limit. when i proceeded to accelerate, it appeared that the engine was just spinning, but not accelerating, when all of a sudden, it just lunged forward, not once, but twice. this was quite frightening as i had no advanced warning this was going to happen. after that incident, it appeared to be driving normal, until it happened again about a week later. i am afraid whenever i get behind the wheel now, but it is the only vehicle i own and i use it to get back and forth to work, so i am proceeding with extreme caution. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. after coming to a complete stop, the contact attempted to accelerate and the vehicle jolted forward violently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

While driving along my ford escape suddenly refused to accelerate, i was holding the gas to the floor and it wouldn't budge. it was idling strangely and surging. a wrench symbol appeared in the screen on the dash. i was on a hill and was unable to pull of the road. luckily, no one was behind me. i waited a few moments and restarted the escape, it went and then continued to decelerate once again. i will be taking this back to the dealership to be fixed. but i am very concerned, upon researching the issue i found many more complaints online. why hasn't this issue been recalled? it is highly dangerous and it is only a matter of time before the escape cuts off at the wrong time and gets someone killed. this needs to be addressed before it become an epidemic like the chevy cobalt. *tr

I was crossing a highway and when i stepped on the gas i had no power! just a few weeks before it was at ford for a torque and steering recall. when i called ford to inform them what happened they said i will have to pay $130 for them to diagnose it! i'm not happy with fords response. this is a real danger and they need to take it serious! *tr

While driving at 71 mph with the cruise control on, i noticed a slowing down feeling, the cruise control light went off, the wrench light illuminated. i pulled to the berm. i turned off the engine. according to the manual it was the throttle. it took 2 tries to restart car, the wrench light went off. a ford dealership was 5 min. from incident. according to invoice, they performed throttle body update. i was told if the light came on again, it might need a throttle body. i asked if they could perform the work, they stated without the light being on, they couldn't do the work under the warranty. meanwhile i was over 200 miles from home, and needed to get home. it felt so unsafe for 5hours of driving. the car has surges of power, downshifts with jolts, and clunking sounds when it does shift. this is how it drove from the beginning, i began to think it was normal so never reported it. also, since the work was done i noticed the rpms at idling are high, i can pull into the garage without putting my foot on the gas the rpms are at 2 at 30 miles an hour, same as at 70 miles an hour. i'm contacting ford about the rules of the warranty and how unsafe it feels to drive the vehicle. how many accidents, deaths will it take to get the real work done, not a patch up job. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a garage without warning. there were no injuries reported. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired to determine the cause of the acceleration failure. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000...updated 09-15-14 *bf updated 1/15/15 *js

Driving down freeway at 85 miles per hour. vehicle stalls and rpms or mph won't move. pull over put in park, vehicle shakes real bad and wrench comes on. turn off and restart, wrench drops off. 50 miles down the road same instance, except after restarting wrench drops and check engine light comes on. bring to dealership. throttle actuator control system stuck open and they say possible recall. week later going 65 down highway and same instance happens. take it to different dealership and they say we have throttle body recall, they recalibrate the recall. now vehicle doesn't always switch rpms when it's supposed to. it'll jerk before shifting and then wrench and check engine light comes back on. back to dealership and they say throttle actuator control and possible new throttle body down the road. spent almost 1000 dollars on recall in last couple months and now they telling us the recall was just a recalibration and but might need a new throttle body?? what was the recall for. frustrated with ford. *tr

My ford 2011 escape just completely stalled out driving home. i was on the highway going about 65 mph when it just sputtered and died. i think i even had it on cruise control. it was extremely dangerous and i had to pull over in the middle of traffic. i forced the car into park and turned it off when it kept sputtering. once i restarted the engine it drove some more but did the same thing about 3 minutes from my house. turning the truck off then back on seemed to work...i'm taking into the ford dealership today to have the look at it but i think it is the throttle body... *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 30 mph without warning. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 53,000.

I was driving on highway when all of a sudden my 2011 ford escape started to accelerate and stop, accelerate and stop. i pulled over, turned the car off and restarted the vehicle. when i put the vehicle in drive vehicle accelerated while people were in front of car. no one was hurt. had to tow to autozone to have them attach troubleshooting machine. result was p2111 throttle actuator control system. *tr

The vehicle accelerated quickly from a stopped position upon starting in the morning. i have to put my foot on the brake to keep it from surging forward even though i have not pressed the gas peddle at all. vehicle jolts forward suddenly during driving at slow speeds and often when starting from a stop. also sometimes increases acceleration when coasting at a medium speed when no gas has been applied. *tr

During rush hour traffic on a busy highway, my 18 year old daughter was attempting to accelerate from a legal right turn on red. with traffic approaching the gas pedal become unresponsive, she began quickly losing speed, she was in the right hand lane thank god with a turn lane and was able to pull over before slowing to a complete halt. had she been in a center lane or on a stretch with no shoulder, there could have easily been a severe accident. the gas peddle just became totally unresponsive as she came to a stop. when she was completely stopped noticed the service engine light, a red battery light and wrench light all came on. waited 10 min for me to get to her. we restarted car seemed fine. i took to ford dealer last night. ford dealer called this morning as advised fuel throttle problem and said no problem warranty extended on that problem to 150,000 miles 10 years, you will not have to pay. christ i'm not worried about paying. i"m worried about getting my family or someone else's family killed. shame on ford for not recalling after all the complaints i have seen now. something must be done now before major accident with deaths involved!!!!! *tr

Sudden lost of acceleration at 70 mph per our. pushing on the pedal would not allow the car to accelerate. pulled over restarted the car, tested accelerator in park and worked. continued after pulling over same thing sudden lost of acceleration, car started to decelerating rapidly. *tr

I was driving in the left lane of i-495 in long island, ny around 1:00 pm when my car completely lost power. i pressed the gas pedal and felt that there was no power in the accelerator. the car was now only moving because of the previous highway speed that i had been driving at, and i was able to use the remaining propulsion of the car to pass to the right lane and pull over onto the shoulder. i had to wait 2 hours for a tow truck to arrive while waiting precariously close to the right lane of a major highway, because i was not able to move the car further to the right on the shoulder due to the lack of power. needless to say, this was an extremely dangerous event for me, as i was surrounded by tractor trailers and other large vehicles that were driving a minimum of 65 mph. i could've been killed had i not thought quickly to guide my vehicle off the highway and onto the shoulder. i've now read about nhtsa's investigation into this stalling issue with ford vehicles and thought it was important to notify the agency about yet another event - my own. my vehicle is currently at a ford dealership in long island and i am awaiting news regarding the cause of the problem. but after reading about the numerous complaints which mirror my own car's power loss, i believe that i may also have a throttle body issue. please expedite your investigation into this dangerous problem. people's lives are at stake. *tr

I have no idea what part is bad.... i was driving on a open highway and all of a sudden i had no speed, it was as if i had taken my foot off the accelerator, i was able to get it off the highway but when it was idling, it was running really rough. after setting for awhile it seemed to run ok but of course being a lady i am very uncomfortable driving it now. my husband took it to our dealer, astorg ford, they said it was the throttle body and they would replace the defected part but didn't have it in stock, they would get it in a few days but still sent it back home for me to drive and of course i will not drive it till it is fixed, i think it was bad on their part to send the escape back to me the way it is. thank you *tr

Pulling out of the driveway of my home, the car surged forward on its own and narrowly missed the neighbor. this surging of the engine on its own is going to cause a death one of these days. ford really needs to look into this. *tr

As my wife was driving one morning the ford escape with out warning started to feel like there was no throttle when she stepped in the gas. she immediately pulled to the side of the road (coasting because the gas peddle wasn't responding. a little wrench (throttle body/powertrain) light came on, on the dash. this happened twice on this day, both times out of the blue. the ford dealership looked at it and it was the throttle body. this shouldn't happen on a vehicle so new and such low mileage. *tr

Accelerating from traffic light, in left lane, in heavy traffic. the car slowed down and would not respond to accelerator. manage to maneuver to the side of the road. shut off engine and restarted engine. all appeared normal. i maneuvered to a road with less traffic to continue home. the problem occurred again within a mile. *tr

Driving on a winding, mountainous road the car suddenly lost power and was not responsive to the accelerator. there was no shoulder, so i kept going, very slowly, and then it resumed normal operating responsiveness, only to lose power again. this continued for the 4 miles it took for me to get home. i hoped it was some bad gas and was a one-time event - until it happened again, and i was again able to get home. i am now afraid to drive it. *tr

While driving on interstate the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled to a very slow speed. i was able to safely exit the highway and pulled into a parking lot with engine barely running. after turning engine off and preparing to call aaa, tried starting engine and it ran fine. the check engine light came on and i took the car for a code check. code was p2111 throttle actuator stuck open. i am just going out of warranty (30 days ago is 3rd anniversary of purchase) and feel this is a manufacturing defect that should be covered beyond the warranty. had this happened with traffic close behind at 70 mph, there could have been a serious accident as the slowing was dramatic without touching the brakes. this condition is a serious safety hazard. *tr

While trying to accelerate to enter merging highway, my 2011 ford escape took many seconds to stall and then finally engage. my son asked why does this always happen, and its not safe to drive not knowing when entering the traffic, that you will not know if the car is going to make it in the traffic. i drove far and quite a bit yesterday and it happened 3 times. i am taking the car in next week, even though the dealer thinks nothing is wrong. *tr

After intermittent 3 times in 2 weeks, had throttle body cleaned 12/14/2013 per ford tsb. on this date, 12/16/13 it failed again and had the throttle body replaced at my expense. ford would not cover it after 36,000 or 3 years as out of warranty. it was an extremely hazardous condition not to replace. this part should be recalled immediately for replacement. *tr

While turning into a parking lot my vehicle's accelerator quit functioning. this was the second time within a 14 day period. to overcome the problem, i shut the vehicle off via the key, waited 3 minutes and tried again. same thing. next i shut off the engine and waited 5 minutes and the throttle body began functioning again. i drove the vehicle to a repair shop where they cleaned the affected part and re-installed it. *tr

I was driving down i-5 and 2011 ford escape started to decelerate while foot was on the gas pedal. had to switch lanes and exit highway before i lost momentum. no one was injured in the process. shut it off for about ten minutes then turned it over but it struggled to fire. when started we drove straight home and parked it. i then got on the computer to research the issue and looked up any recalls on the vehicle. i found arfc and seen about 270 or more complaints about the same issue. i'm curious why ford didn't recall this vehicle because that is a safety concern and with so many complaints you think something would be done. *tr

I was driving down the road and my ford escape just lost acceleration. everything else stay on, but i tried to press the gas pedal with no response and nothing happened, the vehicle just stopped. i turned off the vehicle and restarted it and it started up with no problems. it happened again when i was pulling out of a parking lot, exact same thing. luckily during both events no cars were behind me at the time. *tr

I was on i80 heading westbound through lincoln. all the sudden i felt a thump and lost all acceleration. i was in the center lane (of three lane traffic) and was surrounded by semi trucks. thankfully i was able to get my hazard lights on and coast over to the shoulder. i called aaa for a tow and took my vehicle to the nearest ford dealer. i was advised that i had a stuck throttle body. they said this is quite common for this year/make/model of vehicle. they replaced the throttle body under warranty and sent me on my way. i feel very fortunate that i was able to coast to the side of the interstate. i had recently taken an 1800 mile road trip with my children through dallas and houston. i am so grateful this didn't occur on our trip. *tr

Car 4 months past warranty, stuck in traffic when suddenly not getting gas. dealership says is throttle body. see lots more complaints so wanted to register mine too. *tr

In the peak of traffic the vehicle stalled and started choking. almost would barely run. had the opportunity to stop in the rest area and had to pay the tow truck. vehicle currently in the shop and the diagnosis is the throttle body needs replacing. and the warranty is not covering. *tr

This is the second time this has happened to me. both time i was on my way to work. the first time i was going about 45mph turning on the street to my office and the engine dies. i have no power. i am pressing on the gas and nothing. i stop the car and pit it in park. i restart the car and it starts right up. i think oh no big deal maybe i have a bad tank of gas. maybe the engine was not getting any fuel. did not think too much into the problem this morning it happens again! except i was going a lot faster and i was on the highway. i am going about 65mph and 10 minute away from work. i am in the far left lane and the engine dies. i instantly panic and need to get over five lanes of traffic. i put my flashers on luckily i still have power for those. i was able to get over on the side of the road before i came to a complete stop. i put it in park and take the key out. sit there for a minute while i catch my breath because i just crossed 5 lanes of rush hour traffic with a engine that is not on. i put the key in and it starts right up. i press on the gas and i have power again. why is this happening? i have been reading online about this problem and it sounds like this is happening to a lot of us. ford is wrong for not coming out with a recall by now. *tr
