My car is rusting underneath the wheel suspension. the dealer is trying to make me pay nearly $800.00 to clear up the rust. the paint is also beginning to peel off the whole side of the car.the top molding is coming off the top of the car. my truck was defective and would not open. i paid $140.00 to repair. i paid for a noise in the rear of the car while the car was under warranty of $454.00. i had to pay for power train deductible even though it was a recall item. the dash malfunctioned and the lights went out and i had to pay dealer $100.00. all charges were incurred at taylor ford. the air condition went out last year. the top molding is coming off. i bought the car in summer 2013 with a full factory warranty. the trunk got stuck and would not open in january 2017.

Hatch comes up when driving
My vehicle was parked and i was loading my cargo area. as i closed my lift gate, the rear glass exploded. there was nothing that could have poked the glass to shatter it. the broken glass covered me and actually, somehow managed to send shards in front of my front bumper. thank goodness there was no one else within 10 feet of my vehicle.
Both rear wheel wells are rusting. this starting happening around 2016. i see many other 2010 escapes with the same issue. ford needs to step up and there needs to be a recall on this wide-spread problem.
Driver side rear window would close, an hour later the rear lift gate would not open. there is no way to open the lift gate from inside car, if we were in an accident and needed to get out through the back.
One day closed the rear hatch glass and the hinge holding the glass in place fell apart due to corrosion. now the window is barely hanging on only with the help of the latch locking it in place. not a sufficient amount of anti-corrosive used on the metal to protect it. now have to drive around with it barely hanging on until the replaces parts i ordered come in because they could only be found on the internet. also too the weatherstripping around the window is not plush enough i think to protect the inside from water damage which also lead to the whole liftgate failing to open anymore. i feel ford should take responsibility for the poor craftsmanship they did when first building the car. and i know i'm not the only one with this problem but i'm sure others fail to report it to the proper agency.
When closing the back hatch of my 2010 escape, the back window exploded.
Right rear window suddenly dropped down and does not work. we were told that the "cable burned out." a few months later the front passenger window, did the exact same thing. vehicle was parked both times. stationary.
When a driver was travelling down the highway, the hood flew up on this vehicle that we use for a company vehicle. this also happened to another ford escape the company has, year 2006, that i also filed a complain on as it is a major safety issue with no current recall.
The tail gate and rear passenger door have extensive rust. the tail gate has rusted to the point where it cannot be repaired according to the local ford body shop.

After loading the vehicle, i shut the rear gate. the rear window exploded upon impact and shards of glass flew all over the street and the back of the vehicle scaring the kids. *tr
When closing the rear hatch on my 2010 ford escape, the rear window exploded leaving glass shards throughout my driveway and out into the street. there was nothing blocking the closure and normal force was used to close the hatch. *tr
From the time we first bought the escape (new) the battery light has came on at random times. we have taken in and dealer said there is not an electrical problem. when we drive the car and have the heat or air on it will randomly turn off and then a minute later come back on full blast. i also have rust under wheel wells that ford said they would not cover because it did not preferate the body but is clearly creeping up the uouside of the rear quarter panel as well. i have seen this on many of the same year escapes. when i pushed for results they opened an investigation then came back and said they would split the cost with me which i believe should be fully covered since it was still under the 5 year unlimited mileage body coverage. also, my wife was driving the vehicle last week and it randomly stalled on her causing her to pull off the road. safety is becoming a concern. not pleased with results given.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving at any speed, the vehicle pulled to the right without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that there was a hole in the subframe. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (bradford fairway ford, bradford, pa, 814-368-7166), but the technician was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
The rear windshield exploded while i was parked. i was behind the car and was showered with glass as were my personal items in the back of the car. *tr
The rear window has two clamps that attach to the vehicle. the clamps are deteriorating and crumbling to pieces. i have also seen this on other ford escapes. with the clamps falling apart it will only be a matter of time until the rear window will shift or fall off. this same vehicle is rusting also. the rear hatchback is rusting out and other components. ford motor company refuses to take care of the problem. *tr
When i closed my hatchback the rear window shattered and glass flew everywhere. i had a couple cuts on my hands from the glass falling. *tr
The back hatch will not open. there's no clicking sound when locking or unlocking. the window does open and close.
I was pulling into a parking spot at a cvs pharmacy, about to put my car in park when it surged forward and into the doors of the store. i was not injured but mortified that i could have killed someone. when i received the recall notice i took my vehicle to five star ford in plano, tx. today, i had my state inspection yesterday and asked if they could pull up the trouble codes on my computer. the manager told me that the shop's computer couldn't but he had his own code reader that would show the complete record. he did and told me it was erased and there was nothing on it. five star ford in plano is the only place my car has been to that could possibly do this since the accident. i asked them at that time if i could get a transcript from the computer but they said they couldn't do it. *tr
Vehicle was parked in my driveway. this happened at about 10:30 a.m. i had removed some items in the rear of the vehicle and then shut the rear tailgate. the rear tailgate glass had not be opened and was closed as usual on the liftgate. the liftgate was closed in the normal fashion. i was in the process of walking away from the car after closing the tailgate when the rear tailgate glass exploded. nothing had struck the glass from either the inside or outside to cause this to happen. i received some minor scratches on my hand. the glass exploded as far as 6-8' behind and to the sides of the vehicle as well as all over the interior of the vehicle. *tr
8 am removing packages from rear of escape. upon simply closing the hatch door, the glass shattered to bits. i have opened and closed that hatch door dozens of times. it closes well . no need to slam. shocks balance well. i checked the web and found many similar occurrences. i immediately recorded (camera) the aftermath with the hopes that ford may come to the pump. i had the car fixed at the dealer $1200 out of pocket. ford canada will not even acknowledge the nhtsa #10039131 tsb 10-22-10 per phone call to ford help line. *tr
On dec 24th we were loading up gifts into our trunk. i closed the trunk boom the back rear window blew out. now it will cost me close to 500$ to fix this should of never happened. i know many complaints have been made about this. thanks. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the rear door hatch would not open. the vehicle was diagnosed taken to the dealer, who stated that the rear hatch actuator switch had failed. the manufacturer was informed of the defect. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 120,000.
This is now the third issue with my 2010 ford escape where the rear window shatters while closing the gate. this is a known issue with ford and they will not fix. glass shatters into thousands of pieces and projects 10-15 feet in any given direction. yet, ford will do nothing to fix. this is very unsafe where i have had glass shot at my face and i also have a dog that is often put in the back of the vehicle. the only way ford will do something is if i pay. i also wonder how many people have not filed complaints thinking this is a fluke accident and may have gone through insurance. i know it is no fluke since this is the third time this has happened and talking with ford they acknowledge the issue. there should be a recall on this vehicle. i have filed two other complaints with the nhtsa. *tr
I was cruising at a low speed on a warm day when i heard a loud explosion, the left rear window exploded. *tr
2010 ford escape bought new and taken back to dealership as the vehicle jumps forward. dealership could not find problem. within last two weeks vehicle is losing gas pedal power while driving. the vehicle does not stall. if you apply the gas the vehicle jumps forward. the computer code is p2112. vehicle was surging forward when a dog ran across the road. couldn't control vehicle. very busy road and trying to get out of the way. bumper had to be repaired and car is still losing power and surging when you apply gas. *tr
My car stalled out as i was driving down the street. i had to turn off my car and restart it. it was able to restart but about 5 minutes later it did the same thing. at one point i was in the middle of an intersection. when i took it in to the dealership they told me this was happening to many other ford escapes as well as ford fusions. at this point they told me the part was back ordered for 2-3 weeks. they told me most people were just able to drive the car with the random stalling out until the parts came in. *tr
The rear hatch does not open due to a faulty actuator. all escapes have this issue since 2001 but ford has not corrected the problem and does not offer assistance. this is dangerous because if this is the only way to escape from your vehicle in an accident you will not be able to. also there is no way to open the rear hatch from the inside. *tr
The rear gate will not open. the lock will not respond to the power unlock or remote and there is no way to get it open. there is no alternative way to open the rear gate and could be a problem in an accident. i have read multiple complaints on line from other escape owners, this seems to be a reoccuring issue with these vehicles, but is not a recall, and often times they don't know how to fix it. *tr
On feb 22, 2013 i experienced a problem with my 2010 ford escape, while closing the rear liftgate my back window completely shattered - resulting in my having to replace the window which cost me $466.83. after some research on the internet, i found the ford knows of this problem and it has happened on other vehicles - my problem occurred while the vehicle was stationary and also in the early morning hours. i also incurred minor cuts and lacerations due to cleaning up the broken glass. i believe since ford motor co. knew of this problem and failed to notify owners of this, i should be entitled for reimbursement of the cost for repairing the window, since it was a defected product. *tr
Went grocery shopping. loaded groceries in rear. closed tailgate, window literately exploded, glass everywhere. *tr
When closing the rear hatch of the 2010 ford escape, the glass shattered. temperature below freezing at the time and matches tsb: tsb-11-2-9. no reason for the glass to break at all. glass shattered and cut my finger. small chunk of glass had to be removed from finger. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated upon closing the rear lift gate, the glass shattered outwardly. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired by an authorized dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the problem and did not offer any assistance. the approximate failure mileage was 17,936. ..updated 01/30/13 *bf updated 2/5/2013 *js
Right after the warranty went out the vehicle starting slamming from 1st into 2nd upon acceleration. the idle is very rough and quite loud, the engine makes a funny noise and i take extremely good care of my vehicle, getting all of the scheduled oil changes on time, replacing the air filter, etc. i also explained to them that the vehicle wasn't idling properly and that the engine used to be quiet. the windshield is extremely thin as well, a small pebble hit my windshield causing a 8 inch crack in a matter of minutes to where it was beyond getting it fixed. then liftgate started giving me problems. when you press the button, it would make the sound, but sometimes open, then on may 17, 2013 it just quit working all together. on may 18, 2013, i took it to reynolds ford for a scheduled oil change right before a trip to mexico and upon telling them about it, they wanted $250 just to look at it before parts and labor. now, the rear blinker doesn't work and you can't replace it due to the fact that you can't get the liftgate to open in order to remove the rear taillight assembly. so, when you are trying to make a left turn, vehicles behind you don't know you are turning and almost hit you (safety hazard). you also can't change a flat tire since you can get to the jack, which is in the rear compartment accessed through the liftgate. this is a serious problem as there is no manual release for the hatch to get it open period, once the latch doesn't work, it just doesn't work. *tr
I had my 2010 ford escape parked in my garage at my house and i opened my rear lift gate to get something out of the back. when i shut the lift gate like normal the glass exploded all over. there was nothing in the rear that came in contact with the glass or lift gate to cause it to explode or shatter in anyway. i was lucky to have only gotten a minor cut from the glass shard if i was standing somewhere else i could have gotten seriously injured. *tr
I shut my tailgate and the rear window shattered on my 2010 ford escape. no one was injured, but it definitely made a huge mess and it was a shock to have this happen. this is the second issue my vehicle has had this year. a few months ago the throttle control went on the vehicle. both not covered by ford, due to the warranty over. i have many concerns that a two year old vehicle could have these type of things going wrong with it. my other concern is ford won't acknowledge these issues with recalls and many of my fellow ford owners are having the same issues. please check into this for us. can say i definitely won't be buying ford again after this. *tr
Vehicle began throttling while driving on the freeway. engine light came on. as i pulled over, vehicle slowed down jumping forward. applied brakes and still kept jumping forward. switched gear to park and car stalled. turned on after a few tries. continues to jump forward and shake. after a few minutes problem went away and vehicle drove normal. three weeks later same occurrence. this week another occurrence of the problem. contacted sunrise ford dealer in north hollywood ,ca and was told i need to pay $150.00 diagnostic fee. *tr
Liftgate would not open. i was told it was not covered and i had to pay $278.00 to the dealer. now i see there is a service bulletin covering this problem, for this year car; but my vin was not covered, according to ford the day i had it repaired. *tr
