Problems with 2010 Ford Escape FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2010 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 61 712 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2010 Ford Escape

As i was driving down the road the car just lost acceleration and the wrench light came on. i was able to get off the road and shut off the engine. i restarted the car and was able to drive home. just today we had the same thing happen again. ford dealer tells me there was no code so they can't order the part. however, they believe the throttle body is bad but need the code to be sure. from what i have read it sounds like they know what it is but are unwilling to fix this. they tell to just restart and keep going sooner or later it will to start and they can fix it. i am going on vacation tomorrow just what i need is this to fail at the wrong time. does someone need to die before something is done. sure seems toyota wasn't given this much leeway a couple of years ago. *tr

We own a 2010 ford escape limited, purchased new june 2010. throttle control went out first time in may 2013. called dealer, they said just water in gas. second time approx. 2 weeks later, happened again, took to dealer where it has remained for almost a month now. we work and we need our car. this needs to be addressed, too dangerous to drive, have been told part is back-ordered over 16,000. consumers need relief from this. *tr

Driving 65 mph on interstate highway at 7:30 a.m. on may 13. suddenly, there was no longer power. the vehicle would only idle, not accelerate. the wrench light came on. after towing to the local ford dealer, i was informed that the vehicle would require a new throttle body. *tr

Intermittent vehicle stalls and surges upon entering traffic from a stopped position or while driving at highway speeds. problem was initially intermittent and continued to operate the vehicle under this condition. however, a short amount of time/mileage later, the condition eventually progressed to the point of keeping one foot on the brake while stopped and the other on the gas pedal to keep the vehicle running as well as pulling off the roadways and interstates until vehicle was marginally operational again. obviously this is a dangerous situation, particularly driving under high speeds on the interstate. upon taking the vehicle to the dealership, the problem was diagnosed as a failed throttle body, with trouble codes p2111 and p2112 present in the on board computer system, indicating the electronic throttle actuator control system was stuck open and closed, respectively. there were no warning signs prior to the initial failure or prior to subsequent failures, only when the vehicle started surging did the check engine/maintenance required lights begin to illuminate. vehicle was purchased as a certified pre-owned to which this known condition was not covered by any condition under the warranty. *tr

2010 ford escape xlt continues to have intermittent occurrences of "stalling in motion" with no warning. we have been lucky so far that the vehicle will coast to shoulder or a parking lot. if we drive on interstate we only travel in the right lane in case we have to coast off. vehicle then idles roughly at about 800 rpm. vehicle has to be put in park and shut-off. then restart so far makes vehicle go again sometimes. vehicle may have to be restarted multiple times to get moving again. however, this is getting more commonplace and we will not allow our young inexperienced drivers to operate the vehicle due to the extreme safety risks associated with operating the vehicle. this is placing a huge burden on our family as we cannot afford to have the vehicle repaired at ford dealer due to the high expense involved. vehicle has check engine light with p2111 code on several occasions which specifically isolates the throttle body malfunction. this situation needs to be remedied by ford before a death occurs as it will occur soon especially on interstates or highways. *tr

While driving down i-40 in eastern arkansas in heavy traffic, the engine went to idle speed. pressing the accelerator did nothing. i coasted to the shoulder of the road and the car was idling but would not drive. i turned off the car and it restarted and ran with no problems the rest of the way. on june 18th, 2013, the car did the same thing in heavy traffic in little rock on i-30 in the left lane. i coasted to an exit and took it. the car again restarted, but this time within 30 seconds it went to idle again and the check engine light came on. the odometer read 60,480 at this time. on june 19th, 2013, i took the car to landers ford in benton arkansas where they diagnosed the problem as needing the throttle body replaced. the part will take approximately 3 weeks to come in. as is, i cannot drive the car out of town for fear of it breaking down completely. this is our only vehicle and we both have elderly parents who we need to go see about. we will have to rent a car to do this now. *tr

I was driving to work going about 40mph when my escape lost power to the throttle. i had to pull over and shut it off. i waited a few minutes to start it again. it started and drove with no problem for a few minutes and then the same thing happened again. after looking for similiar problems online i found that it is the throttle body. *tr

On several occasions driving on the highway the vehicle speed goes down suddenly and all kinds of lights go on, and it dies after that. shut off the car wait 10- 15 minutes , restart the car and prying it will take me home safely, on one occasion the card died twice in a 20 miles trip. brought the car for diagnosis and i was told the throttle-body has to be replaced and it is not under warranty or a recall. the repair cost me $532 which i paid, later on i contacted ford corporate by phone and by email, and both told me that the repair is not covered, and they would not re-imburse me for the repair cost . i checked your website and i found almost 600 complaints similar to mine , in a way i felt i'm not alone ,on the other hand if ford has these too many complaints about the throttle - body for the 2010 ford escape , why they can not work with the nhtsa and issue a recall to replace that defective part before someone gets injured or dead by a rearend collision. please investigate this issue , thank you *tr

When driving the car, the gas pedal becomes useless and no longer accelerates the car. the engine is still on and all power is on in the car but you can't accelerate at all. very dangerous on the expressways as the car can just die and if you can't get over to the emergency lane.... you have to pull the car over, turn off and restart. seems to work for a while after that. has done this at different speeds, and several different times. my wife has had a few close calls with almost being rear ended due to this issue. ford knows about it but doesn't seem to have "enough" complaints to fix the issue... *tr

Was driving at speed of 65 on hwy on 5/3/2013 when vehicle lost all power, wrench light illuminated and vehicle came almost to complete stop although i had the accelerator completely depressed. could only drive about 1 mile per hour. pulled to side of road and tried to drive to repair shop but could not safely drive so stopped and called road side assistance. they suggested i call ford motor company and when i contacted them they instructed me to turn off engine and restart which i did, wrench light went out and was then able to proceed home. took vehicle to ford motor repair shop and they could not find anything wrong with vehicle and they did not tell me there have been any problems with make/model. talked to another repair shop and learned according to a technical bulletin there have been problems with throttle body of 2010 ford escapes manufactured from june 2009 to october 2009. this problem part was subsequently fixed on models manufactured after that time. mine was manufactured in september 2009. this needs to be fixed on all vehicles in the identified manufactured dates since it has obviously been identified by the ford company and ford repair shops should advise owners of the problem. i have no other means of transportation and live in the memphis area where there is heavy interstate traffic i can not safely drive this car in multiple lane traffic since it may suddenly lose power to 1-2 mph in the middle of 70 mph traffic. *tr

Vehicle surges and then dies when stopping at a red light or stop sign. vehicle will instantly restart after placing it in park. after first incident vehicle has constantly gotten worse. dealer stated throttle body was defective and ordered new part which is on back order. unable to drive the car since it is subject to die at anytime. *tr

Driving on freeway at speed and vehicle fuel system seemed to shut off causing vehicle to stall and shutter. i was barely able to exit freeway without incident. shut engine off and restarted and vehicle finally resumed normal operation, at which time i drove directly to dealer for inspection, but they were in process of closing for the day and vehicle had resumed proper operation by then and dealer felt the vehicle would not be damaged to continue on trip if we wished. this incident occurred 2 more times before returning home. when home, check engine light came on and took vehicle to mechanic for inspection and it was diagnosed with a faulty throttle body which as of 5/30/13 are unavailable due to national back order. evidently lots of escapes seem to have this problem. i am currently on list for the part in question. vehicle is out of warranty by 1 month but not by mileage. *tr

While at speed or slower driving the engine suddenly looses all power. normally it will continue to run (idle), but will not accelerate at all, leaving driver and occupants only able to coast to a place of safety if car is moving. in a crossing traffic situation, this could be deadly. my spouse and i have had several incidents like this and the dealer has identified the problem as a faulty throttle body. however, there has been a national back order on these, as evidently lots of these cars have this problem. parts are not available for 2 to 4 weeks or longer and the vehicle is absolutely unsafe to drive in this condition. ford customer service (detroit) says the part in question is supplied by a vendor and they are unable to keep up with demand, but ford offers no assistance in temporary replacement vehicle or with the expense of replacing the part (my vehicle is out of warranty by 45 days even though by miles would still be in warranty). someone should take action to get this resolved before there are serious injuries/deaths related directly to this problem. *tr

Was just pulling out of a gas station and heading to the on-ramp to the highway when the vehicle lost power. open wrench light came on. i was able to pull over to the side and restart the vehicle. fortunately this did not occur while on the highway. i was traveling with my 2 children, both under the age of 2 1/2. i brought it to the dealership today. they advised me of the default in the powerthrottle. they did not tell me that an investigation is currently underway, which i feel should be their responsibility. i am being charged $500 to have it fixed. the dealership has advised me that should their be a recall then i would be reimbursed the cost. we purchased the ford escape because we thought it was a good product, we will go back to purchasing japanese vehicles going forwards. very disappointed .... *tr

Cruising on a four lane rural highway, not using cruise control. vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and power. engine remained running but stepping on the gas would not do anything, the check engine light lit up. turned hazards on, pulled over to the side (coasting), applied brake, shut car off and restarted. car proceeded fine to destination. second incident occurred approximately 6 hours later after car had been sitting. proceded onto another four lane rural highway cruising at approximately 65 mph and the vehicle did the same thing. check engine light came on, i pulled over, turned vehicle off, then restarted and proceded to my destination. as this was a sunday, i took the vehicle into local ford dealer, was told there was no code to read, but based on my account of the situation, they felt it was a faulty throttle body. they could not confirm until the vehicle would throw the code again. they drove vehicle for over 30 miles and the vehicle did not experience the same issue. with out confirmation of the problem, they could not definitively fix the vehicle. *tr

Vehicle suddenly lost power while traveling at highway speed. i was able to steer to the side of the road and stop. vehicle restarted and had the same issue two more times in a 40 mile trip. vehicle has continued to have the same problem intermittently both at surface street speed and highway speeds. *tr

As i accelerate from a stop position such as a stop sign, traffic light or accelerate trying to go up an incline or bridge the car loses all power. the engine still runs and the power steering still works but as you try and press down on the pedal to accelerate nothing happens. eventually the car stops and begins to sputter. i turn off the car and then start it up. the car works fine for a few miles but the situation happens again. *tr

I was coming down a road to a stop light when the car shook then just idled. when i limpped over to the side of the road turned off car and when i restarted it the lite went out and it was fine. *tr

Vehicle went into limp mode. initially it was infrequent, but it started to happen more often at various speeds, causing unsafe driving conditions. the throttle body was the reported error, was replaced and now the new throttle body is acting up again with the same errors. the car is currently at the ford dealership because the part is on back order and no one else has it available. *tr

Driving down the road the escape felt like it stalled on the road with the wrench warning light. pulled off and tried to give it gas but the car wouldn't go and the rpm's were jumping. shut the vehicle off and called my husband and he said to shut it down and restart the car and see what happens (husband had a friend with another escape do the same thing). i did that and it was fine. had a shop check for codes but there were no codes present. called ford and was told that it was the throttle body/sensor and that its not covered under warranty (yet they new what the problem was just by me explaining it which tells me that its a known problem that they don't want to fix). then today it did the same thing. *tr

I was turning a corner, the car lost power, when i pressed on the accelerator there was no power. the wrench and engine lights appeared. they had to replace the throttle body and i was told that it also needed a battery. however, the entire problems was with the throttle body. since purchasing the vehicle i would every now and then feel it losing power. i thought it might be the transmission but when i took it in for them to look at they said "no we drove it and nothing seem wrong with it." at that point it would have been covered by warranty. i feel that the service people should have guest it was the throttle body since so many of these vehicles are having the same problem. i am now feeling that there was some deception. the vehicle is a 2010, this vehicle is too new for it to need such a major repair. the warranty on these vehicles is substandard. the cost of replacing the throttle body was $465.32 and the battery that i purchased at auto zone was $132. i am very unhappy with this ford product and will not purchase another ford. while the service people were professional did not offer information about this happening frequently. i believe that we all need to be reimbursed! *tr

Driving down interstate at speed limit then all of a sudden vehicle loses all throttle with pedal and will only idle. able to pull to side of road and shut off vehicle and restart and get to destination. this happened several times before i was able to get to dealership to find out the problem. no codes but the wrench did light up on the dash and go away. dealership replaced throttle body and said this is usually the problem. my cost $510.62......... they said to look for a recall on throttle body and i could get a refund but looking at all the complaints about this same problem looks like ford is slow to post the recall that many consumers had to pay for out of pocket due to faulty parts.

This is about the 10th time i have experienced this issue. in every case the car stops accelerating and the car drops into idle with the rpm's ranging from 900-1100. shifting gears does not have an effect and you have to shut off the car to turn in back on. the amber wrench light comes on every time and the few times that it happened consecutively in one trip the check engine light came on. on my first visit to a dealership they replaced the accelerator pedal. the second time they noticed my transmission was eating its fluid so the filled up the fluid. the third time the dealership replaced my transmission and the most recent they replaced the throttle body. this seems to coincide with the open investigation pe13003. i have had the car malfunction occur when accelerating through 65 trying to get onto a highway. had it happen twice at 15 mph in a parking lot. had it at 45 mph in the middle of an intersection and multiple times on back roads at 35 mph. fortunately for me i was always able to flip my hazards on quickly and the other vehicles were able to get around me while i stopped on the road, but this situation is highly unsafe especially at higher speeds on highway when you have to pull over and stop the car to fix the situation. based on multiple online forums it seems to be mainly the throttle body that is malfunctioning, but it seems to also degrade the engine over time and can end up costing you as an owner over time due to the dealers inability to always pin point the issue. *tr

Driving in the highway the vehicle stop throttle and show the wrench indicator light. first experience was my wife that is now pregnant. we stop using the car until i could bring it to the dealer, and it also broke down while coming here. ford says it is the electronic throttle device and that i have to pay for it $470+tax. this was purchased here as a certified ford and ford does not cover it even if it is a life threatening issue. this is a very dangerous defect, especially in the highway or if passing another car in a two lane road. ford should recall all cars with this electronic device asap and pay me for this expense. i have to pay for it now because the car even though it starts it will break down in the middle of the road for no reason. again this is a very dangerous defect and several complaints seems to indicate the same. *tr

Please be advised while driving on roswell road in atlanta, ga in traffic my ford escape stalled. i had to pull to the side of the road. the vehicle was unresponsive. upon taking the vehicle to ford they replaced a faulty fuel vapor control valve. *tr

Vehicle's throttle stopped working in traffic traveling at 35 mph and had to coast vehicle to side of road where engine was idling roughly but no response to pressing accelerator pedal. vehicle needed to be shut off and restarted several times to get throttle working again. vehicle exhibited this problem many times over last 30 days (even at 65 mph we lost throttle on interstate and had to coast off in traffic). we have been fortunate in avoiding an accident. took vehicle to service station which read computer reading and said "throttle body actuator" needed to be replaced and that i should go to local ford dealer asap as there should be a recall for a 2 year old vehicle with this dangerous condition. ford dealer informed me that there was no recall and that its just something that happens and that it would be $399 to fix. this is a huge safety issue and i will not let my family drive the vehicle until ford fixes this issue at ford's expense. i researched online and this problem seems to be happening a lot to many owners. this needs an immediate mandate by nhtsa to ford to issue a recall for this life threatening defect. *tr

2010 ford escape xlt (v6) is having repeated incidents (at random intervals) of throttle failures. vehicle suddenly has no "gas pedal", idles roughly (800 to 1000 rpm) and has to be coasted to side of road. only way to reset is to put vehicle in park and turn off (dangerous on interstates or if in left lane and no place to pull off), restart and most cases the problem is eliminated for hours, days or more. sometimes it can occur many times within a short drive period and then go away for hours of issue-free driving. engine service light (wrench) came on one day after some extremely rough idling caused by issue (engine bucked a bit) and service station read computer analysis as "throttle actuator control system" was stuck open and closed. they told me that it was probably defective and dangerous and that i should proceed to my ford dealer asap. i took vehicle to ford dealer (3/20/13) and they acknowledged the throttle body should be replaced, but said no recall had been issued so i would have to pay for repair. i could not believe this for a 2 year old car. this is a huge safety issue and i would expect a manufacturer to fix this problem immediately and shocked at their nonchalance regarding this problem. i went home and googled the issue and i see many articles and agencies looking into this problem so apparently i am not the only one having this problem. i am not allowing the my family members to drive the vehicle due to this safety issue until it is repaired by ford at their expense. this could be a major lawsuit (injury or even fatalities) due to the safety of having to "limp off" a busy roadway with no warning and becoming a target. *tr

I had approximately four occurrences of losing all throttle response, basically a complete loss of power while driving on the los angeles freeway system. engine rpm drops to 1,000 and provides idle power only. a very dangerous situation while on a 4 lane congested highway traveling at speeds upto 65 mph. *tr

On the morning of february 25th, i was pulling out of my garage when my car just stopped accelerating and the "wrench" light came on. it was barely idling, so i turned off the car and restarted it. it started normally, so i went on to work. that evening, i was driving on the interstate in the passing lane going approximately 75 mph when the car sort of lurched and then the "wrench" light came on and the car instantly started to slow down. i could not accelerate at all. i had to wait for traffic to move in the right lane, which was horribly dangerous, and then pull off the side of the road. i turned the car off and then restarted it. it took a second, but the car restarted and the wrench light was off, so i got back on the interstate again. that evening i started looking on the internet to see if anyone else had experienced this same problem, and that was when i saw that there was an investigation started by the nhtsa in regards to that very same problem occurring in several ford vehicles. this was extremely dangerous because when it happens, i have no control over the speed anymore and i am at the mercy of the cars all around me. i could have easily caused an accident that day. then, about a week later it happened again while i was on a busy city street going approximately 35 mph. finally, yesterday morning, march 20th, it happened on the interstate again. the dealer says there are no error codes, but they said they think its the throttle body and that it will cost about $300 dollars to fix. this should be a recall. this investigation needs to be concluded and a recall needs to be issued before someone is killed. this is extremely dangerous since it happens at faster speeds, while on the interstate. *tr

I was driving down the road at night, going 40 mph on a street when suddenly my car decelerating without warning and came to a stop on the side of a busy street. the engine light came on however, i was not able to get it to move. i had the tow company come get me and dropped it off at the ford dealership. it appears that the throttle body went out while i was driving. normally i wouldn't report this, but it seems to be a common dangerous event with the ford escape. *tr

Throttle body place sticking. *tr

While driving there was a sudden loss of power. the wrench icon lit up on the dash display & the engine light came on too. there was no response from the gas pedal at all. the engine stayed on & all other features of the vehicle worked. i shut the car off & restarted the vehicle & continued driving. this occurred 4 times within a half hour. it was a miracle that i was not involved in an auto accident. i brought the vehicle back to a ford dealer where they replaced the throttle body. vehicle has been operating fine ever since & the gas pedal is more responsive than it was before. the original bumper to bumper warranty expired less than 2 months ago & i had to pay for this repair. i am very unhappy. *tr

Even though that had happened some months before but stopped, it did it again in january of 2013. the vehicle stalled unable to be accelerated, the wrench sign appeared and all i could do was coast it to the side of the road. the engine was still running. since this happened before, i took it immediately to ford to have it fix. i told them what i thought it was and they confirmed it. the repaired was $304. since ford knows about this existing problem with the escapes, they should have recalled this part and pay you for the repair. i like the escape but i think ford has not been proactive in fixing this problem. *tr

Defective throttle body the 2010 ford escape not once but multiple times would go to idle and run rough while traveling on different roads at different speeds. the gas pedal would do nothing to make the car go but it was idling rough and coasting causing us to stop on the side of very dangerous roads. we would turn it off and let it sit for a few minutes and then it would start normal. the gas pedal would work again but repeat the same problem 5 to 10 minutes later. we were certainly glad this did not happen on the interstate in front of an 18 wheeler or we would be dead. the dealership said the throttle body is bad. the car is only 2,000 miles out of warranty from the standard bumper to bumper warranty, the extended powertrain warranty does not cover the part. so we are out almost $400 for a part that should never fail to begin with. *tr

With no warning, i was unable to accelerate. car went into limp mode. i was able to pull over safely. i am thankful i wasn't traveling at a higher rate of speed or traveling on the freeway; this would have been incredibly dangerous. diagnostic lights on dash indicated something with throttle. was able to get car home - very difficult. had to have it towed. very expensive car repair, 208.00 part (throttle body) and 190.00 labor. *tr

While driving to work, going approximately 40 mph, my car experienced a sudden loss of power and acceleration. the car did not respond when i pressed the gas pedal, and the engine was sputtering and the car would barely move forward. luckily i was able to pull into a parking lot and shut the car off. i had the car towed to a ford dealer, and was informed that the problem was the electronic throttle body. i soon found out that my third party warranty did not cover this part. the dealer stated that the warranty doesn't cover the part because they know it is going to malfunction in almost every ford escape. so i had to pay over $300 out of pocket to get a part fixed that the dealer knew was going to break! this is ridiculous! *tr

Serious and life-threatening malfunction impeded my ability to control my 2010 escape occurred while driving 50mph on a very busy highway. my escape stalled suddenly without any warning what so ever in the middle of the lane while driving on the busy highway. as i tried to continue driving, pushing the throttle pedal, the escape would not go,it slowed down suddenly on it's own. i was able to ease off the payment to the side of the lane; however, i was almost hit in the rear by a auto behind me before i could get off the payment. i was fortunate to have been at a place where i could ease off the payment. the highway is curvy and hilly. this scared me to death. a wrench light came on indicating a malfunction of the throttle/powertrain. the engine was running fine. i turned off the engine and waited a few minutes, then i cranked it and it cranked fine. the wrench light went off. i tried driving it again, and once i pulled back into the highway, giving it gas, it would barely go, so i eased back again. i called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. after it was inspected i was told the electric throttle body had malfunctioned and needed replacing. it was the caused of the sudden stalling while i was driving. my life as well as others were put in a dangerous situation because of this malfunction. i understand that there has been a lot of complaints like mine already filed here. ford should issue a recall immediately before any deaths occur. i had to pay $470 to get this taken care since my warranty was out 3/36,000. i was told that this was not covered by the powertrain 5/60,000. *tr

The car lost engine power unexpectedly while under way. pressing the gas pedal made no difference, and the car would not coast - it lost speed rapidly. upon turning the car off and waiting a few minutes, the car would restart and operate normally. sometimes it would operate for normally for the entirety of the trip, other times the car would exhibit the problem again. *tr

For several months, my 2010 ford escape would stall while driving down the road. there were times that i was going 45-55mph and my vehicle would stall. i lost power steering as vehicle shut off. i had to slow down and pull off the road and re-start the vehicle. this was very dangerous and scary. this happened probably 10-15 times until i could no longer get the vehicle started. i had it towed into a ford dealership and had their service department analyze the problem. i first took it by an advance auto to check the service engine light. the code that came up i believe was 9000. it had something to do with emission, fuel system concerns. the service department put a throttle body and motor assembly part on it. i haven't had any problems since. they also did an eec test p2111 and found etb to be at fault and replaced. i had to pay $356.52 including labor for this. i feel from reading other information on 2010 ford escapes that there has been a lot of issues with stalling. i feel i should be reimbursed for my expenses. *tr

Engine stalls , loss of power, random stop - obd code p2111 throttle body. *tr

As i was pulling out of my neighborhood to drive to work, the car barely made it into the lane of traffic before it stalled completely. i made it to the curb and was quite shaken by this incident. no warning lights had come on. this was very startling to me. after a few minutes, the car started but it shook as i shifted it into drive. i decided to drive with great care to the dealership. on the way there, as i was on an interstate road, it stalled again and i was frightened. i made it to the right curb. it was storming and i called my insurance company for a tow truck to deliver the car to autonation ford jacksonville at 10720 philips highway in jacksonville, fl (904-292-3325). the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. the repair costs totaled $498.86. *tr

Loss of power - vehicle stops at random - obd code p2111. *tr

Throttle body failure. from nov 2012 until july 2013 my ford escape has been bucking and surging at low speeds with no throttle response. occasionally, the vehicle would die completely unresponsive in the middle of an intersection. on july 11, 2013, my wife took our 2010 ford escape to ernest mccarty ford in alabaster, al. they told us that the throttle body assembly would need to be replaced. this issue is very dangerous and should ford should issue a recall. *tr

Engine loses power (does not stall out) stays running but unable to accelerate. wrench light comes on. if shut off and restarted it will go again. occured 3 times in one day. occurs at any level of speed, was going 30 mph once, and on highway the other 2 times, once excelerating on highway to merge, and the last time driving normally. throttle body and motor were replaced. *tr

While driving wrench light and engine light illuminated with sudden loss of power very dangerous. if it would have happened .5 miles later merging onto highway during rush hour could have been fatal. *tr

During stopping at stop lights/stop sings the engine surges back and forth like it is going to die. now it has started to actually stall out. the stalling has also occurred on freeway driving at speeds over 40 miles per hour. *tr

My check engine light came on steadily out of the blue. took it to ford dealer and was told i needed to replace a faulty purge valve. part number:9u5z-9c915-h. i was told this was a common problem for escape's and fusion's. there were 3 escapes today having the same part replaced. not under warranty and $300. there is a technical service bulletin on this issue, but not a recall. seems like a common defect could have safety repercussions since is the fuel fumes not exhausting properly. *tr

I was going approximately 60 to 65 mph on the freeway and i stepped on the gas to accelerate past another vehicle when i very suddenly lost all acceleration. i had to glide across 3 lanes of heavy traffic to try to get off the road. the car idled a little rough, i turned it off and when i started it again it ran fine and the accelerator worked again. i took it to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body. this was an extremely dangerous event and should definitely be looked into. *tr

While driving from central fl to asheville, nc. my 3.0 litr escape basically lost all power a total of 6 different times on interstates 95 and 26 between savannah, ga and columbia, sc. driving along at posted highway speed limit, engine would unexpectedly start losing power and eventually come to a stop in the emergency lane. the tachometer indicated that the engine was running at about 1000 rpm, but it would not take and thottle and barely move. switching the engine off and restarting, reset something and allowed me to continue driving normally but only for about 20 miles before doing the exact same thing. this was a saturday about noon and calling several ford dealers was useless as most said they were getting ready to close, or could not look at it until monday. not wanting to ruin our vacation, we tried to continue with the above scenario repeating itself at least 6 more times, each time getting more and more dangerous, as traffic was heavy and each time the engine would lose power instantly and almost caused accidents before we could get off the road into the emergency lane. finally called a ford dealer in columbia, sc that was open till 4pm. and said they could check it out. made it there at 3:30 pm and they diagnosed the trouble as a code p2111 throttle body stuck open. they had the part in stock and $326 later we were on our way. vehicle only had 41k miles. internet research has revealed several hundred complaints of the same exact trouble happening to them. there is even a youtube video showing this described trouble actually taking place, after a frustrated driver could not get any ford dealer to recreate the trouble and take care of it, he videod it acutally happening. my calls to ford motor co customer service, and my emails were a waste of time. ford is ignoring a very dangerous problem that will get them many lawsuits i am sure. ford needs a recall now! *tr

Vehicle began throttling while driving on the freeway. engine light came on. as i pulled over, vehicle slowed down jumping forward. applied brakes and still kept jumping forward. switched gear to park and car stalled. turned on after a few tries. continues to jump forward and shake. after a few minutes problem went away and vehicle drove normal. three weeks later same occurrence. this week another occurrence of the problem. contacted sunrise ford dealer in north hollywood ,ca and was told i need to pay $150.00 diagnostic fee. *tr
