Going about 45 mph when all of a sudden the car started to coast, there was no warning light. i pushed the gas pedal to the floor and it was as though the car was not getting any fuel to the engine there was no acceleration. i coasted to a stop turned off the engine waited a few minutes turned the car on it seemed fine so i finished my errand. on the way home i was going approx. 50mph on the local highway and the same thing happened. took my car to a local ford dealer (i thought it was still under warranty) they said it would cost $900.00 to clean the throttle body as recommended by ford but they were not sure it would fix the problem. the throttle body part was on back order and they were not sure when they could get one. so now i have a car i am afraid to drive. *tr
While driving coming to complete stop to make turn press gas pedal engine lose all power and wrench indicator came of dashboard. pulled over to side of road out of traffic . turn engine off then turn engine back on wrench was gone & power return. problem existed 2 more times after this date. call ford service & took escape in for service for problem to be throttle body valve sticking as of 060613 still waiting on new part for escape. escape is at dealership since 06/03/13. *tr
I will be driving along and the engine acts as if it didn't get enough gas and air mixture so it kicks out of shifting and just slows down then it starts hopping. it gives me a symbol on the dashboard of a wrench. i looked it up and it says it the throttle body. i had a mechanic come with his handheld computer and read the code and it says throttle aviator stuck open, then he erases the computer code nd i am able to drive until the next tome it happens. which it has happen everyday now since june 12th. ford has said that the part is being revamped and not sure when it will be available. my mechanic said that he has replaced many of these. why has it not been recalled? i have loses income because i do not want to be out on the road and have this happen when i'm on the highway with a semi behind me, then they will have a law suit to deal with. *tr
Engine stopped running while driving. diagnostics showed that the throttle actuator controller was stuck in the open position. local service facility cited a recall p2111-ford dealership denied this-saying that i must pay for repairs. *tr
While getting on the freeway the car slowed down on its own and almost stalled out (this occurred twice). it also occurred while driving and speeding up on the freeway where it slowed down to where it felt like it was going to stall out. it also occurred while driving on a street in the city after stopping at a stop light tried to hit the gas and the car felt like it was going to stall out. *tr
I was traveling 60mph, car suddenly stalled on the highway. gas paddle did not respond. engine light & wrench light was lit. stopped the vehicle completely & turn the engine off. waited couple of mins and start again. no wrench light but engine light goes off. now this happens every day. *tr
First it started with the engine light coming on. i had the codes read at a local auto parts store and they saw it was an "evap censor" and stated this is usually associated with a gas cap leaking. well, the escape we have doesn't have a gas cap!!! it's one of those "quick fuel, nascar type systems", where there is just a plug that retracts when you insert the gas nozzle and retracts when you're finished? secondly, the surging started happening while stopped at red lights. i would slide the gear into neutral, which would keep the vehicle from lunging, but you could still see the rpm's revving up and down. this issue went on for about two months. thirdly, it is now stalling while driving 50 - 60 mph down the highway. there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when it happens, it just totally shuts down the engine!!! very dangerous. *tr
I was driving at 45 mph when the vehicle shuddered and lost power. it began coasting and i had no response from the gas pedal. i pulled the vehicle over and put it in park. i realized it was still running, just very roughly. i shut the vehicle off and restarted it, after which it drove fine. since then, it has happened between 5-6 times in a 2 week period. i took the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed and they told me i needed a new throttle body, which is not covered under the power-train warranty. *tr
On multiple occasions my 2010 ford escape stalled while driving. vehicle was unresponsive when pressing on the gas pedal and required a restart in order to temporarily correct the issue. in all instances, i was in the middle of traffic and struggled to make my way to the shoulder to avoid an accident or injury to myself and others. upon further investigation from local ford dealer, i was informed that the throttle body was defective and causing the vehicle to stall. dealer stated that the throttle body was only covered under warranty through 36k miles. *tr
While driving at approx 45mph, vehicle started to decrease in speed. pressing the gas pedal the rpms continued to decrease and car slowed to a stop without stalling. vehicle began sputtering and "wrench" light appeared on dash. *tr
Driving along around at 45 or 50 mph and went to turn on the air conditioner and the car stalled. i was able to pull over and the car restarted.. previous to this when turning on the ac the car got very sluggish, i was stepping on the gas but the car would not go. after a very short time the car recovered and normal speed was attained. i fear this may happen pulling into traffic or merging and this happening would be extremely dangerous and cause an accident. i was told by the dealership i bought the vehicle from that ford is having a problem with this part. when i searched the internet i saw that many others have had the same or similar issues with the 2005 -2011 escapes. i was also told that ford is doing a redesign of this part but no date as to when it would be available. my dealership stated they were able to find the same part but no promises if it would last. they also stated they could not duplicate the problem while in the shop, thus it's an intermittent occurence. they recommended just driving the vehicle and keeping in touch to see when the redesign is available. *tr
When driving in traffic, the car failed to accelerate, it rapidly lost power as if it were going to stall. i pulled over and restarted the car. at the time i had two small children in the car. *tr
Vehicle lost power while driving approx 40 mph. no response from the gas pedal. shut ignition off and car ran fine for a while. happened three more times. took vehicle to ford dealer for repair, they said it was a faulty throttle body. vehicle is still in shop as there apparently is a "national backorder" on the part - none available right now. *tr
Intermittent vehicle stalls and surges upon entering traffic from a stopped position or while driving at highway speeds. problem was initially intermittent and continued to operate the vehicle under this condition. however, a short amount of time/mileage later, the condition eventually progressed to the point of keeping one foot on the brake while stopped and the other on the gas pedal to keep the vehicle running as well as pulling off the roadways and interstates until vehicle was marginally operational again. obviously this is a dangerous situation, particularly driving under high speeds on the interstate. upon taking the vehicle to the dealership, the problem was diagnosed as a failed throttle body, with trouble codes p2111 and p2112 present in the on board computer system, indicating the electronic throttle actuator control system was stuck open and closed, respectively. there were no warning signs prior to the initial failure or prior to subsequent failures, only when the vehicle started surging did the check engine/maintenance required lights begin to illuminate. vehicle was purchased as a certified pre-owned to which this known condition was not covered by any condition under the warranty. *tr
Electronic throttle body - code p2111 displayed - action number pe13003 car lost transmission power and eventually stopped out on route 1 south. the issue began at the top of the morris goodkind bridge , as the incident occurred i noticed the wrench icon in the lower left of the dashboard and the check engine light i was in the left lane traveling at the average pace of traffic, i managed to get to the center lane once i realized the issue and eventually the car came to a complete stop [ engine would rev but no power would transfer to transmission] near the dangerous exit ramp for route 18 n and s. luckily no one behind me were involved in any accidents. i turned put the car in park and turned the engine off i restarted the engine and shifted to drive the car seemed to be working again. i got past the rt. 18 ramp and got into the right lane i made it about 1.5 miles near rutgers cook college where this issue happened again, this time i got onto the shoulder before the car came to a complete stop. once again i put the car in park and it started up again i drove it home approximately 2 miles before leaving it parked until tuesday may 14th when my wife and i could drop it off at the local dealership, malouf ford in north brunswick nj. this is a major safety concern , the check engine lamp or the wrench icon do not display until this part fails. unexpectedly losing power and stopping on one of the busiest most traveled portion of route 1 is scary. i am glad that my 2 year old son and my pregnant wife were not injured when this occurred. in addition countless other motorists were put at risk due to this part failure without warning. ******i have all reciepts and documentation if you need further information or assistance. *tr
Throttle, car stalls in the middle of traffic on highway and streets, no warning. *tr
2010 ford escape xlt continues to have intermittent occurrences of "stalling in motion" with no warning. we have been lucky so far that the vehicle will coast to shoulder or a parking lot. if we drive on interstate we only travel in the right lane in case we have to coast off. vehicle then idles roughly at about 800 rpm. vehicle has to be put in park and shut-off. then restart so far makes vehicle go again sometimes. vehicle may have to be restarted multiple times to get moving again. however, this is getting more commonplace and we will not allow our young inexperienced drivers to operate the vehicle due to the extreme safety risks associated with operating the vehicle. this is placing a huge burden on our family as we cannot afford to have the vehicle repaired at ford dealer due to the high expense involved. vehicle has check engine light with p2111 code on several occasions which specifically isolates the throttle body malfunction. this situation needs to be remedied by ford before a death occurs as it will occur soon especially on interstates or highways. *tr
Vehicle had entered "limp" mode several times. in the beginning, it was an intermittent issue, but soon progressed to happening several times in a single trip. sever times it occurred while on a freeway. ford has had the part to fix it on back order and is not estimated to be in stock until september. i have been without a vehicle now for almost 2 months, and will continue to be out one for what appears to be 2 more months. *tr
While driving car engine suddenly decelerates to a fast rough idle. car must be pulled to the side of the road , then shut off and restarted to continue driving. this incident has occurred 4 times between 5/6 and 5/15/2013. car has been in the ford dealers shop for a week now without a fix, seems like the onboard computer does not save the diagnostic data after being shut off. new fords with 1970's computer technology ? i believe this is a safety issue and ford needs to do whatever it takes to fix the problem. *tr
Engine lost power and went into limp home mode. pulled off highway turned off engine and restarted seemed normal but repeated after a few moments. no trouble code or idiot light is on. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to be restarted after five minutes and operated as designed. the failure recurred six hours later. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the throttle body would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,000. updated 6/14/13 *cn updated 07/19/2013*js
While driving on a busy road my car lost power and would not accelerate. it began shaking and the wrench symbol came on. i was able to drift over to the center lane and turn my car off. it restarted and drove decent. i went to a local mechanic who said cleaning the throttle body may help. i picked it up today and it still isn't shifting properly. i will go to a ford dealership tomorrow. i also had the same issues with throttle body/car stalling in august 2012. *tr
My 2010 ford escape stalled on me around may 5th, 2013. i was able to pull over and restart it after a couple minutes. the check engine light came on when this happened, but went away when i restarted engine. i was driving about 20 mph at the time. on may 13th, 2013 it happened again twice. after the second time i took it straight to the ford dealership. they ran the computer test on it and couldn't find anything wrong. they charged me $40. they told me unless the check engine light is on, they probably wouldn't find anything. if it died and wouldn't restart, they might be able to find something then also. they said it will cost me $40 each time i brought it back to have it checked. since then it has stalled on me about four more time, most recently 7/3/2013. each time has been city driving not above 30mph. the check engine light did not come on these times. i have been avoiding driving it much because of the problem. it constantly surges when driving and sometimes jerks when first taking off from a start. when at a stop light or even in park with the motor running the rpms constantly go up and down. *tr
I was accelerating up the on-ramp to the bay bridge from san francisco late this afternoon. the car was responding to my foot on the pedal as the engine revved and i gained speed, then suddenly it stopped responding and slowed to a chug with my foot still on the pedal. the wrench light illuminated as i practically came to a stop with speeding traffic slamming on brakes behind me. i put on hazards, stopped car, turned off engine, restarted car and the wrench light was off but the engine light remained on for the entire time afterwards. when i would accelerate in drive, it would limp at about 4 mph. i could not go any faster. i was able to get over to the slow lane and tried to keep going. the caltrans service patrol truck pulled up behind me and escorted me over to the left lane where i proceeded slowly to the next exit. i eventually was towed to the ford dealer (where i bought the car) and had to leave it over the weekend. they charge a fee for diagnosis, but can't do it until monday, so i don't know what they'll find. from what i've read, other people describe very similar symptoms. this was an extremely dangerous situation in the middle of friday rush hour traffic. i was lucky no one was hurt. since we bought the car new, the acceleration sound has always been loud, and sometimes passing gear sounds like it's over-shooting. after i stop accelerating, it still keeps revving. however, this is the first time it has stalled. *tr
Vehicle dropped to idle during mild acceleration. pulled the codes and recieved p2111 code for throttle body. *tr
Car stalls while driving at approx.40 miles per hour. the car doesn't sputter or anything it just quits. this has happened on multiple occasions, last time being today 8/7/2013. i have to get to the side of the road without getting rear ended , and then i can start it back up and will run fine for a while. this is extremely dangerous and scary. *tr
While driving the motor shuts down. it is impossible to even rev the engine and increase rpms. it will jerk and jump forward as if its trying to accelerate but wont go any faster than idle speed. if i turn the engine off it will work properly for about 50 yards then shut down again. *tr
While driving my car has been stalling. it will also like surge forward. today is repeatedly did this to the point where i couldnt get anywhere. *tr
The engine lost power, but did not stall, when accelerating from a stop light. the check engine light and a wrench symbol light appeared on the dash board. i stopped the engine and restarted it and the problem happened again just a few seconds later. i pulled over and stopped the engine and waited a few minutes then restarted it once more. i managed to drive another 2 miles and the problem happened again. it only seemed to happen if i tried to drive faster than 30mph or tried to accelerate too quickly. i tried to accelerate gingerly and keep my speed at 25mph and i managed to get the vehicle to the mechanic about 13 miles away. the problem happened once more while driving to the mechanic. the mechanic said the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. *tr
I was driving on the freeway and suddenly i lost power, the rpm's dropped to 1500-2000. i pulled over and the engine was sputtering like it was trying to die, the rpm's were fluctuating between 1000-2000. i turned the car off, waited a minute and started it again, seemed fine. i started driving again, it was ok for about 5 minutes then the same thing happened except this time the "wrench" light on the dash came on as well as the check engine light. the car had to be towed. i didn't drive the car for a few days, then tried driving it, the warning lights were off and it seemed fine. worked great for about 2 weeks, then the same thing happened on the freeway again. i had it towed to my mechanic he said it was the throttle body and it needed to be replaced. he tried to order the part from ford, but he was told that the part was being re-manufactured and may not be available for up to 3 months. i tried to drive my car home, but once again, the engine lost power. the only way i was able to drive it home was by driving 20 mph with my flashers on. i now have a car that i still have to make payments on that i can't drive because the part it needs hasn't been manufactured yet. love my car, but this really sucks! there needs to be a recall! *tr
Our vehicle has stalled four times, with two happening in the last week. in all instances, the flashing wrench comes on, and the car begins to stall/surge until you pull over and turn the car off. the problem seems to reset afterward with no further problems. my wife narrowly avoided a wreck with our two toddlers in the car today. this problem is extremely unsafe and i am fearful for my family's safety. *tr
Driving on freeway at speed and vehicle fuel system seemed to shut off causing vehicle to stall and shutter. i was barely able to exit freeway without incident. shut engine off and restarted and vehicle finally resumed normal operation, at which time i drove directly to dealer for inspection, but they were in process of closing for the day and vehicle had resumed proper operation by then and dealer felt the vehicle would not be damaged to continue on trip if we wished. this incident occurred 2 more times before returning home. when home, check engine light came on and took vehicle to mechanic for inspection and it was diagnosed with a faulty throttle body which as of 5/30/13 are unavailable due to national back order. evidently lots of escapes seem to have this problem. i am currently on list for the part in question. vehicle is out of warranty by 1 month but not by mileage. *tr
I purchased a 2010 ford escape limited in october 2010. in just two and half of years of having the vehicle and under 50,000 miles, i had to replace the throttle body costing me $385 (after talking the service guy down to that price). the incident occurred on april 24, 2013 while driving home from work for lunch. i was driving on a busy road when my car's speed started to slow down automatically. i tried to press the gas but it would not accelerate although the engine was still on. there were no lights on indicating a problem, so i pulled into the first place i could, turned off the car and turned it back on. it started right back up so i didn't think anything of it and pulled back out onto the street. it happened two more times on my way home before i saw the first mechanic shop and turned in. by the third time the (wrench) light came on. since i was still under the powertrain warranty the mechanic told me it was best to go to the closest ford location. after looking at my car they told me the throttle body needed to be replaced and due to what type of part it was, the repair was not covered under my warranty so i had to pay the full amount. this does not seem normal given that the car is only a few years old and less than 50,000 miles. i am fearful that more problems are to come... *tr
Cruising on a four lane rural highway, not using cruise control. vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and power. engine remained running but stepping on the gas would not do anything, the check engine light lit up. turned hazards on, pulled over to the side (coasting), applied brake, shut car off and restarted. car proceeded fine to destination. second incident occurred approximately 6 hours later after car had been sitting. proceded onto another four lane rural highway cruising at approximately 65 mph and the vehicle did the same thing. check engine light came on, i pulled over, turned vehicle off, then restarted and proceded to my destination. as this was a sunday, i took the vehicle into local ford dealer, was told there was no code to read, but based on my account of the situation, they felt it was a faulty throttle body. they could not confirm until the vehicle would throw the code again. they drove vehicle for over 30 miles and the vehicle did not experience the same issue. with out confirmation of the problem, they could not definitively fix the vehicle. *tr
Vehicle suddenly lost power while traveling at highway speed. i was able to steer to the side of the road and stop. vehicle restarted and had the same issue two more times in a 40 mile trip. vehicle has continued to have the same problem intermittently both at surface street speed and highway speeds. *tr
Need to replace the throttle body on my 2010 ford escape. i was driving and my vehicle suddenly failed and stopped working. i had a few seconds to pull over to the should before the car turned off. i was able to restart the car and get to my destination, but an accident would have occured had i been making a left hand turn or crossing lanes traffic. i took my car to ford and was told i had to replace the throttle body, which will cost just under $500. my vehicle is 800 miles outside of warranty. i called ford and lodged a complaint. i also know see online this is a known issue and should be part of a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 30,000. *tr
As i accelerate from a stop position such as a stop sign, traffic light or accelerate trying to go up an incline or bridge the car loses all power. the engine still runs and the power steering still works but as you try and press down on the pedal to accelerate nothing happens. eventually the car stops and begins to sputter. i turn off the car and then start it up. the car works fine for a few miles but the situation happens again. *tr
Driving on the freeway about 55 mph and sudden loss of power and engine appeared to shut off causing rapid deceleration, this happened about april 18, 2013 and again may 24, 2013 both times on the freeway. also noted that car surges intermittently when accelerating driving city streets. called ford after first incident and took car in for scheduled maintenance. no mention of any issue with safety of car. last incident asked ford to do a diagnosis and they told me it was a rare occurrence having to do with a stuck throttle and it would be over a month before the replacement throttle part comes in and i should not drive the car. the repair is going to be somewhere in the range of 500-700 dollars. ford also told me that they recommended i have sensors cleaned also due to build-up which could affect the catalytic converter??? caused by the throttle problem?? i was also told that none of this repair is covered under my factory warranty. *tr
I was coming down a road to a stop light when the car shook then just idled. when i limpped over to the side of the road turned off car and when i restarted it the lite went out and it was fine. *tr
Vehicle cut off while traveling in traffic at about 45 mph, wrench light came on. the engine cranked back up, continue on my way. 2nd incident happen while traveling to work, engine kept running but, could not give engine gas, coast to a stop. wrench light came on, engine was idling rough, turn vehicle off, engine cranked back up. 3rd incident engine surged and cut off after taking off from stop light. another incident engine cut off while traveling about 40 mph, engine surged, stumble . wrench light came on. engine cut off , wrench light and service engine light came on, and stayed on for two days and then went off. vehicle is out of warranty. dealer thinks throttle body. *tr
Problem with a 2010 ford escape stalling: the first time this happened i was just leaving house and was on a residential street when the car stalled, i was able put the car in park and restart it and proceeded to work but then approximately 3 weeks later when i was driving on the highway the car lost power and stalled. i was able to pullover, put the car in park and restart and drive home. this happened again the next day; also on the highway where the car just stalled and again i was able to pull over, restart the car and then i took it in for service. i needed have the throttle body assembly replaced. of note, even though the picture of the wrench showed up on the dash, the mechanic said that there were no diagnostic codes showing up when he hooked it up to the diagnostic computer. it also did not show up on my vehicle health reports that i ran. he stated that he had to check with a few ford service managers to help him diagnose the problem. i just wanted to make you aware as this is a serious safety issue and i see through some research that it is a known problem. i just don't want someone injured. i have also let ford customer service know of the problem. *tr
While driving on the highway, the wrench light appeared and the car lost all power and was unable to move. i coasted to the shoulder. after turning the car off, it would then move. this has happened multiple times. the dealer could not located the problem. it occurred again yesterday and it is at the dealer again. this appears to be related to a common issue which is being reported and supposedly due to the throttle body but the dealer has not said that yet. *tr
This is about the 10th time i have experienced this issue. in every case the car stops accelerating and the car drops into idle with the rpm's ranging from 900-1100. shifting gears does not have an effect and you have to shut off the car to turn in back on. the amber wrench light comes on every time and the few times that it happened consecutively in one trip the check engine light came on. on my first visit to a dealership they replaced the accelerator pedal. the second time they noticed my transmission was eating its fluid so the filled up the fluid. the third time the dealership replaced my transmission and the most recent they replaced the throttle body. this seems to coincide with the open investigation pe13003. i have had the car malfunction occur when accelerating through 65 trying to get onto a highway. had it happen twice at 15 mph in a parking lot. had it at 45 mph in the middle of an intersection and multiple times on back roads at 35 mph. fortunately for me i was always able to flip my hazards on quickly and the other vehicles were able to get around me while i stopped on the road, but this situation is highly unsafe especially at higher speeds on highway when you have to pull over and stop the car to fix the situation. based on multiple online forums it seems to be mainly the throttle body that is malfunctioning, but it seems to also degrade the engine over time and can end up costing you as an owner over time due to the dealers inability to always pin point the issue. *tr
When driving down the road my escape will all of a sudden start to shutter. the rpm will go down to 1 and then fluctuate between 1 and 2. the gas peddle will not respond. the engine light and small wrench light appear on the dash. i have to pull off on the side of the road and shut it off. sometimes it would crank back up with no more problems for a few days or weeks. but other times the car will only travel a few yards before doing it again. i took it to the ford dealership and they said they couldn't do anything with a light on. finally it happened one day when i was close to the dealership. they ran a diagnostic test and said my throttle body was dirty. they charged me $406 to "clean" it. the next day after pulling into the parking lot while in park it started doing the shutter thing again. i took it straight back and without a light on the dash they couldn't tell me what was wrong. it did this 4 more times until my fiance' and i were on the interstate going 75 and it did it and jerked so badly we almost wrecked. his father had a diagnostic code reader to hook up to cars and the codes came back as the throttle body door was jammed open and the other code said it was jammed open at the same time? we took it back to the ford dealership and they said a ton of people were having the same issue but to clean it again. we said no because that didn't solve the problem last time. instead we wanted to buy a new throttle body. the dealer said it is on national back order because everyone is having huge problems with throttle body parts so we would have to tough it out until some came available. luckily my fiance called another dealer who happened to have one that they emergency ordered for someone else. once we have that one installed we will be out about 1000 for something on a car that is not old and very well taken care of. i will never buy ford again. *tr
Vehicle's throttle stopped working in traffic traveling at 35 mph and had to coast vehicle to side of road where engine was idling roughly but no response to pressing accelerator pedal. vehicle needed to be shut off and restarted several times to get throttle working again. vehicle exhibited this problem many times over last 30 days (even at 65 mph we lost throttle on interstate and had to coast off in traffic). we have been fortunate in avoiding an accident. took vehicle to service station which read computer reading and said "throttle body actuator" needed to be replaced and that i should go to local ford dealer asap as there should be a recall for a 2 year old vehicle with this dangerous condition. ford dealer informed me that there was no recall and that its just something that happens and that it would be $399 to fix. this is a huge safety issue and i will not let my family drive the vehicle until ford fixes this issue at ford's expense. i researched online and this problem seems to be happening a lot to many owners. this needs an immediate mandate by nhtsa to ford to issue a recall for this life threatening defect. *tr
2010 ford escape xlt (v6) is having repeated incidents (at random intervals) of throttle failures. vehicle suddenly has no "gas pedal", idles roughly (800 to 1000 rpm) and has to be coasted to side of road. only way to reset is to put vehicle in park and turn off (dangerous on interstates or if in left lane and no place to pull off), restart and most cases the problem is eliminated for hours, days or more. sometimes it can occur many times within a short drive period and then go away for hours of issue-free driving. engine service light (wrench) came on one day after some extremely rough idling caused by issue (engine bucked a bit) and service station read computer analysis as "throttle actuator control system" was stuck open and closed. they told me that it was probably defective and dangerous and that i should proceed to my ford dealer asap. i took vehicle to ford dealer (3/20/13) and they acknowledged the throttle body should be replaced, but said no recall had been issued so i would have to pay for repair. i could not believe this for a 2 year old car. this is a huge safety issue and i would expect a manufacturer to fix this problem immediately and shocked at their nonchalance regarding this problem. i went home and googled the issue and i see many articles and agencies looking into this problem so apparently i am not the only one having this problem. i am not allowing the my family members to drive the vehicle due to this safety issue until it is repaired by ford at their expense. this could be a major lawsuit (injury or even fatalities) due to the safety of having to "limp off" a busy roadway with no warning and becoming a target. *tr
On march 16, 2013 i was driving my vehicle when i lost power in the middle of the road. i pushed the gas petal but vehicle would not accelerate. the wrench light illuminated on my dashboard. the vehicle was jerking. i was able to pull off the road. examined under hood and everything appeared ok. vehicle started ok and sounded ok so i continued to drive. approximately 30 minutes later, the same thing happened. vehicle was jerking worse and lost power. i pulled off road and shut the truck off. restarted okay and decided to drive back home. i was fortunate that there was not a lot of traffic and it was early in the morning. otherwise i could have been involved in an accident. someone could have been seriously injured or killed when my truck stalled. i had my 83 and 81 year old parents with me. i took my vehicle to the ford dealership in my home town and problem was diagnosed as throttle body faulty. repairs were made, i paid for them, and left dealership. losing power and vehicle dying on the road certainly seems to be a safety hazard. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and lunged forward abnormally. the contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer or a mechanic for a diagnostic test. the contact called the dealer and the dealer stated the throttle could be an issue. the failure mileage was 41,000. updated 11/15/13*cn
The vehicle experienced the exact condition as described in nhtsa investigation # pe13003. traveling steadily at 30 mph, felt a sudden 'thump' from the drivetrain. the 'wrench' indicator light came on the indicator panel and vehicle went into "limp home mode' and engine continued to run at low rpm (@ 900). the throttle did not respond and vehicle could not be accelerated. electrical and hydraulic power was maintained, pulled over to side of road and stopped normally. once in park the engine began to rev erratically at lower rpms. turned off engine, removed key. i have an obd scanner which i used to check for codes - delivered code "p2111". we were only a few blocks from our home, restarted the vehicle and it returned to normal operation and successfully drove home and has continued normal operation to present time (march 11, 2013). *tr
