We have classified the 481 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving in light traffic on the interstate freeway, just coming over a hill, the engine lost power. multiple power loss surges and the engine light came on so the ford escape was allow to coast down hill to the next exit ramp. once at the bottom of the off ramp, the ignition was turned off and a tow truck was called. to move the car out of the way, the engine was restarted and it was noticed that another light was also turned on indicating something mechanical (transmission) had also failed. the car was barely able to move in 1st gear to clear the side of the road till the tow truck arrived. later the mechanic read the trouble codes and said the throttle body failed and the transmission torque converter was seriously damaged. fortunately the traffic was not heavy and there was opportunity to exit the freeway without crashing. *tr
In a 35 mph zone, when accelerating after slowing to allow vehicle in front to turn, throttle stuck open & car lost power. was able to get to side of road and restart car and proceed. same thing happened 4 additional times that day at various speeds accelerating to speed following a stop or using an on-ramp to highway speed. have experienced "surging" previously but dealer ignored reports as "intermittent". car was towed to dealer on 22 may and is still there awaiting a new throttle control body. shipment of new part is estimated as 17 june. dealer is not providing loaner or rental car as the part is not considered part of the powertrain & is therefore approx. 6 months out of warranty. since the car cannot "go" without the throttle control body - why is it considered part of the emission system vice the powertrain? with so many cars down for this part, it should be a recall. *tr
The first time i had just left a stop light and was accelerating and suddenly the vehicle lost acceleration and even with my foot pushing the gas pedal to the floor, it would not accelerate. i pulled over, let the car sit for a few minutes, cranked it back up and it drove fine for 2-3 weeks. (6/7/13) then after driving for 4 hours at highway speeds, this problem occurred again. it occurred three times before i got to my destination, all within a 30 minute timeframe. each time it was able to be corrected by turning it off and restarting. upon arrival at my destination i let the car sit for about 15 minutes then we took the car out again. it de-celerated one time at highway speed and one time at approximately 45 miles an hour. in this last set of occurrences the emission/check engine light symbol came on as well as the wrench symbol. both times it was again able to be restarted - the two times in this round of occurrences happened within 10 minutes of each other. the car then sat overnight (6/8/13) and as i pulled out of the driveway to take it to a mechanic yet another occurrence happened. again it was able to be restarted and i was able to drive to the mechanic and back (round trip of about 30 miles). while at the mechanic shop they ran a diagnostic and it came up as a problem with the throttle actuator control system. i do not have the error numbers at this time to notate. *tr
While driving the car suddenly started to sputter, shutter and lurch forward while losing speed and making a strange noise. the "wrench" light displayed which identifies a power train/throttle problem. pulled over to the side of the road, turned off engine, restarted and all appeared fine, wrench light turned off and drove rest of way home. researched online and there are hundreds and hundreds of complains regarding this problem which appears to be tied to the throttle body or electric system that controls the throttle input between the gas pedal and the throttle body. this is a very dangerous and scary problem and i'm very concerned it will occur again soon. based on online reports this is a well known problem that ford appears to be well aware of but will not cover expense to fix. *tr
I was driving at 45 mph when the vehicle shuddered and lost power. it began coasting and i had no response from the gas pedal. i pulled the vehicle over and put it in park. i realized it was still running, just very roughly. i shut the vehicle off and restarted it, after which it drove fine. since then, it has happened between 5-6 times in a 2 week period. i took the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed and they told me i needed a new throttle body, which is not covered under the power-train warranty. *tr
As vehicle was proceeding forward from a stop onto a four lane road with the speed limit of 35 mph, it rolled forward and no power was provided. no warning lights prior to this. the throttle control / power train light came on and we were only able to go approximately 20 -30 yards onto the shoulder attempting to go around the corner and up a hill the vehicle was unable to do this we rolled back to the shoulder then turned the car off restarted and the check engine light appeared and were able to get the car up the hill and home. car was towed to ford dealership where it was diagnosed as a failed throttle body which was then replaced.
5/17 while starting from a red light stopped, the vehicle accelerated but suddenly lost acceleration. wrench light came on. i was able to move the vehicle to a parking lot and call for a tow. the technician said the issue was with the fuel line and i had my vehicle back. 6/7 similar deceleration happened and this time the vehicle starting knocking a lot at low speeds. wrench and engine light came one. after turning off and starting again, the vehicle drove fine. i brought it home and one monday (6/10) started it again to take it to the dealer. the vehicle drove fine for half a mile before exhibiting the same behavior or deceleration and frequent knocking. i pulled the vehicle over and called the tow. i have been told by the mechanic that the throttle body needs replacing and it is back ordered nationally. *tr
As i was driving on a highway, the car began sputtering and then there was no acceleration. while the power remained on, the car drifted to a stop. after getting the car towed to the local dealership, i was told there was nothing wrong. a week later, the exact same thing happened again and i was then told the throttle body was defective. i was also told that this part was on a nationwide back order and my car was not be fixed until at least a week later. today, my check engine light came on. also, my sister owns a 2010 ford escape and had exactly the same problem about a week ago. both cars had about 50,000 miles on them. *tr
2010 ford escape - several instances of dramatic loss of power resulting in 'limp mode' due to throttle body sticking closed. this requires restarting the car and has been occurring more frequently since first incident. vehicle is currently at a ford dealership to be repaired; however, dealership states that the throttle body cannot be replaced due to the part being on backorder 'indefinitely.' dealership acknowledged that this is a known problem with late model escapes, but was unable to offer any suggestion or time frame for repair. *tr
As i was driving down the road the car just lost acceleration and the wrench light came on. i was able to get off the road and shut off the engine. i restarted the car and was able to drive home. just today we had the same thing happen again. ford dealer tells me there was no code so they can't order the part. however, they believe the throttle body is bad but need the code to be sure. from what i have read it sounds like they know what it is but are unwilling to fix this. they tell to just restart and keep going sooner or later it will to start and they can fix it. i am going on vacation tomorrow just what i need is this to fail at the wrong time. does someone need to die before something is done. sure seems toyota wasn't given this much leeway a couple of years ago. *tr
I was driving the vehicle at approximately 40mph when with no warning, the car started to stutter like it was going to stall out and i lost all ability to accelerate. the monkey wrench warning light came on and i was able to pull off to the side of the before someone hit me from behind and turned off the vehicle. i called for assistance, but the vehicle started up again fine, and i was able to drive it to the nearest ford dealer. they advised it was most likely a throttle train issue, and they replaced the throttle train. *tr
When driving the car, car de-accelerated, idle was very rough, despite pressing on accelerator unable to make car advance. this has happened twice and is very unnerving and unsafe. after putting the car in park and turning it off, the car seemed to reset itself. our mechanic said it was a throttle body problem. ford motor co. refused to do anything about it unless it came out of my pocket. this is so dangerous and these cars should be recalled and fixed. i will not drive this car until it is fixed. i feel like i could get killed in this car. *tr
While driving approx 55mph the vehicle shut down. had to pull over and restart vehicle twice before it would move. *tr
First incident: 05/03/2013: ac stopped working properly. car sputtered. stopped. would not accelerate. dash lights came on: battery, wrench, etc. lost power. then would accelerate. pulled over and had towed. dealer ford service department inspected. replaced bad floor actuator motor - cc42.. fixed under warranty as owner was only 3 weeks out of 3 year warranty, with a mileage of only 34,646 miles. (invoice receipt: test codes performed by dealer: p2111, p2112, monitor pids. oasis-ssm 32170. replaced throttle body, reset kam, cc42.) second incident: 11/17/2013: similar to 05/03/2013 incident. ac stopped cooling. turned off car. tried to start and dash lights came on. car acted like it would start, sputtered and would not start back up. waited 30 minutes. car started back up. left parked, as felt dangerous situation if were to occur on interstate. will have towed to my mechanic for inspection. why, if dealer replaced actuator motor 6 months earlier would same situation occur? there must be another issue causing the actuator motor failure other than the actual motor failure. *tr
While driving on a busy road my car lost power and would not accelerate. it began shaking and the wrench symbol came on. i was able to drift over to the center lane and turn my car off. it restarted and drove decent. i went to a local mechanic who said cleaning the throttle body may help. i picked it up today and it still isn't shifting properly. i will go to a ford dealership tomorrow. i also had the same issues with throttle body/car stalling in august 2012. *tr
I was accelerating up the on-ramp to the bay bridge from san francisco late this afternoon. the car was responding to my foot on the pedal as the engine revved and i gained speed, then suddenly it stopped responding and slowed to a chug with my foot still on the pedal. the wrench light illuminated as i practically came to a stop with speeding traffic slamming on brakes behind me. i put on hazards, stopped car, turned off engine, restarted car and the wrench light was off but the engine light remained on for the entire time afterwards. when i would accelerate in drive, it would limp at about 4 mph. i could not go any faster. i was able to get over to the slow lane and tried to keep going. the caltrans service patrol truck pulled up behind me and escorted me over to the left lane where i proceeded slowly to the next exit. i eventually was towed to the ford dealer (where i bought the car) and had to leave it over the weekend. they charge a fee for diagnosis, but can't do it until monday, so i don't know what they'll find. from what i've read, other people describe very similar symptoms. this was an extremely dangerous situation in the middle of friday rush hour traffic. i was lucky no one was hurt. since we bought the car new, the acceleration sound has always been loud, and sometimes passing gear sounds like it's over-shooting. after i stop accelerating, it still keeps revving. however, this is the first time it has stalled. *tr
Driving 70 mph in left lane of 4 way interstate in rush hour traffic, my car suddenly lost all acceleration and i coasted to a stop on the left shoulder. engine still ran, but car idled roughly and lurched forward. turned engine off and called 911 and aaa (was sitting on narrow left shoulder of busy interstate at rush hour). after 10 minutes, called 911 again and they said help was still far away so i started car and was able to drive the car as normal so merged into traffic from left shoulder. by grace of god i was in the left lane when power was lost, not sure i could have made it to either shoulder had it happened while i was in one of the middle lanes. also glad my 17 month old son wasn't with me, as i was on way to pick him up from daycare. today (may 2), i drove car to dealer and was told that the problem is a faulty throttle body. am having it replaced. was told there is not a recall for this problem. scary, thought i was going to die. *tr
I was driving on the freeway and suddenly i lost power, the rpm's dropped to 1500-2000. i pulled over and the engine was sputtering like it was trying to die, the rpm's were fluctuating between 1000-2000. i turned the car off, waited a minute and started it again, seemed fine. i started driving again, it was ok for about 5 minutes then the same thing happened except this time the "wrench" light on the dash came on as well as the check engine light. the car had to be towed. i didn't drive the car for a few days, then tried driving it, the warning lights were off and it seemed fine. worked great for about 2 weeks, then the same thing happened on the freeway again. i had it towed to my mechanic he said it was the throttle body and it needed to be replaced. he tried to order the part from ford, but he was told that the part was being re-manufactured and may not be available for up to 3 months. i tried to drive my car home, but once again, the engine lost power. the only way i was able to drive it home was by driving 20 mph with my flashers on. i now have a car that i still have to make payments on that i can't drive because the part it needs hasn't been manufactured yet. love my car, but this really sucks! there needs to be a recall! *tr
Monkey wrench warning light illuminates on the dash accompanied by a loss of functionality of the gas pedal. i was able to coast to the side of the road since the car did not respond at all to any pressure on the gas pedal. turned the car off. restarted the car after a few moments, light was off and car functioned normally. 2nd incident happened 5/22 on the freeway at 65 mph. again, i was lucky enough to be able to coast to the emergency lane. turned the car off, waited, back on and continued driving. 3rd incident happened a mile further down the road. i was already in the slow lane so again it was easy to maneuver into the emergency lane. mechanic indicates the throttle body is faulty and needs to be replaced. *tr
I purchased a 2010 ford escape limited in october 2010. in just two and half of years of having the vehicle and under 50,000 miles, i had to replace the throttle body costing me $385 (after talking the service guy down to that price). the incident occurred on april 24, 2013 while driving home from work for lunch. i was driving on a busy road when my car's speed started to slow down automatically. i tried to press the gas but it would not accelerate although the engine was still on. there were no lights on indicating a problem, so i pulled into the first place i could, turned off the car and turned it back on. it started right back up so i didn't think anything of it and pulled back out onto the street. it happened two more times on my way home before i saw the first mechanic shop and turned in. by the third time the (wrench) light came on. since i was still under the powertrain warranty the mechanic told me it was best to go to the closest ford location. after looking at my car they told me the throttle body needed to be replaced and due to what type of part it was, the repair was not covered under my warranty so i had to pay the full amount. this does not seem normal given that the car is only a few years old and less than 50,000 miles. i am fearful that more problems are to come... *tr
Was just pulling out of a gas station and heading to the on-ramp to the highway when the vehicle lost power. open wrench light came on. i was able to pull over to the side and restart the vehicle. fortunately this did not occur while on the highway. i was traveling with my 2 children, both under the age of 2 1/2. i brought it to the dealership today. they advised me of the default in the powerthrottle. they did not tell me that an investigation is currently underway, which i feel should be their responsibility. i am being charged $500 to have it fixed. the dealership has advised me that should their be a recall then i would be reimbursed the cost. we purchased the ford escape because we thought it was a good product, we will go back to purchasing japanese vehicles going forwards. very disappointed .... *tr
Cruising on a four lane rural highway, not using cruise control. vehicle suddenly lost acceleration and power. engine remained running but stepping on the gas would not do anything, the check engine light lit up. turned hazards on, pulled over to the side (coasting), applied brake, shut car off and restarted. car proceeded fine to destination. second incident occurred approximately 6 hours later after car had been sitting. proceded onto another four lane rural highway cruising at approximately 65 mph and the vehicle did the same thing. check engine light came on, i pulled over, turned vehicle off, then restarted and proceded to my destination. as this was a sunday, i took the vehicle into local ford dealer, was told there was no code to read, but based on my account of the situation, they felt it was a faulty throttle body. they could not confirm until the vehicle would throw the code again. they drove vehicle for over 30 miles and the vehicle did not experience the same issue. with out confirmation of the problem, they could not definitively fix the vehicle. *tr
One night i was driving in a residential area and my car started to rumble, it shook back and forth and the engine started to splutter. then, the engine choked and the car stalled in the middle of the street. the car shut itself off. luckily, this happened before i entered the freeway. the check engine light went on and at first i thought it might have been a battery problem. however, after the car shut off i tried to start the car and i was able to drive it for a couple minutes until it started to stall again. this happened three times in one night within a thirty minute time frame. so, i had to wait a while for my engine to cool down. i took it to galpin ford motors service and they told me they could not diagnose the problem. i went back the second time to get my vehicle re-checked after two days because the problem occurred again and galpin ford was still not able to resolve the issue. i recently just took it back because my car choked in the middle of an intersection and i am still disappointed by the way galpin ford services handled the situation. i feel like my life is at risk driving this vehicle. i have researched this make and model for incidents just like mine because i'm sure this is a defect with the ford escape models. *tr
Need to replace the throttle body on my 2010 ford escape. i was driving and my vehicle suddenly failed and stopped working. i had a few seconds to pull over to the should before the car turned off. i was able to restart the car and get to my destination, but an accident would have occured had i been making a left hand turn or crossing lanes traffic. i took my car to ford and was told i had to replace the throttle body, which will cost just under $500. my vehicle is 800 miles outside of warranty. i called ford and lodged a complaint. i also know see online this is a known issue and should be part of a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 30,000. *tr
Traveling in the left lane at 70mph down i696 in oakland county michigan, vehicle went dead. "wrench" light came on. i pulled over to the right shoulder. car was running, however no power. i turned the car off and re-started. it ran fine after that. one month later the same issue occurred. this time traveling 45mph down the road, vehicle went dead, i pulled over , re-started. travelled another 100ft, same issue. tried again, this time went about 200ft, died. the wrench light and amber engine light came on. this time the engine light remained on and the escape was towed to the ford dealer on may 18, 2013. as of may 31, 2013, the throttle body has been on back order. vehicle sits in their lot awaiting part. *tr
Vehicle decelerated to 10 mph, "wrench" service light appeared. i pulled over, put vehicle into park, at which time it began shuddering. turned off engine, waited a few moments, and turned ignition. vehicle restarted with some effort. incident has re-occurred 7 times since then, now with "engine" service light on. mechanic has identified issue as worn throttle body, on 2-week back order as of may 10, 2013. time for a recall, ford. *tr
While driving on the highway, the wrench light came on and gas pedal went soft , had no power. pulled off to the side , turned the car off for a few minutes. restarted and continued on with no problem. same thing happened again the next day. car is at our ford dealership now. *tr
I was turning a corner, the car lost power, when i pressed on the accelerator there was no power. the wrench and engine lights appeared. they had to replace the throttle body and i was told that it also needed a battery. however, the entire problems was with the throttle body. since purchasing the vehicle i would every now and then feel it losing power. i thought it might be the transmission but when i took it in for them to look at they said "no we drove it and nothing seem wrong with it." at that point it would have been covered by warranty. i feel that the service people should have guest it was the throttle body since so many of these vehicles are having the same problem. i am now feeling that there was some deception. the vehicle is a 2010, this vehicle is too new for it to need such a major repair. the warranty on these vehicles is substandard. the cost of replacing the throttle body was $465.32 and the battery that i purchased at auto zone was $132. i am very unhappy with this ford product and will not purchase another ford. while the service people were professional did not offer information about this happening frequently. i believe that we all need to be reimbursed! *tr
When i'm driving my car, it will suddenly stop accelerating as though someone threw the car into neutral. when this happens, the wrench light comes on and i have to coast over to a safe area to turn the car off and turn it back on. this happened on the freeway at speeds over 70mph, on streets, after a red light, turning corners. over and over again this happens and it started happening at about 50-thousand miles and has gotten worse. today this happened more than six times in a twenty mile radius. *tr
The car just shut down - the car in motion or suddenly surging forward when accelerating from a stop. *tr
While driving on the highway, the wrench light appeared and the car lost all power and was unable to move. i coasted to the shoulder. after turning the car off, it would then move. this has happened multiple times. the dealer could not located the problem. it occurred again yesterday and it is at the dealer again. this appears to be related to a common issue which is being reported and supposedly due to the throttle body but the dealer has not said that yet. *tr
Driving in the highway the vehicle stop throttle and show the wrench indicator light. first experience was my wife that is now pregnant. we stop using the car until i could bring it to the dealer, and it also broke down while coming here. ford says it is the electronic throttle device and that i have to pay for it $470+tax. this was purchased here as a certified ford and ford does not cover it even if it is a life threatening issue. this is a very dangerous defect, especially in the highway or if passing another car in a two lane road. ford should recall all cars with this electronic device asap and pay me for this expense. i have to pay for it now because the car even though it starts it will break down in the middle of the road for no reason. again this is a very dangerous defect and several complaints seems to indicate the same. *tr
On march 16, 2013 i was driving my vehicle when i lost power in the middle of the road. i pushed the gas petal but vehicle would not accelerate. the wrench light illuminated on my dashboard. the vehicle was jerking. i was able to pull off the road. examined under hood and everything appeared ok. vehicle started ok and sounded ok so i continued to drive. approximately 30 minutes later, the same thing happened. vehicle was jerking worse and lost power. i pulled off road and shut the truck off. restarted okay and decided to drive back home. i was fortunate that there was not a lot of traffic and it was early in the morning. otherwise i could have been involved in an accident. someone could have been seriously injured or killed when my truck stalled. i had my 83 and 81 year old parents with me. i took my vehicle to the ford dealership in my home town and problem was diagnosed as throttle body faulty. repairs were made, i paid for them, and left dealership. losing power and vehicle dying on the road certainly seems to be a safety hazard. *tr
While slowing down to make a turn or come to a stop, vehicles transmission jerks violently. after starting the vehicle and putting it in gear, the vehicle jerks and slams into gear. while on the highway and trying to speed up after going through tolls, vehicles rpm's jump wildly, strains engine because vehicle will not go into gear. causing you to have to slow down and nearly cause an accident with vehicles behind you. ford told me (may 8, 2013) it is a leaking seal on the transmission, but the part is on back-order until the middle of july. *tr
I came to a stop at the top of my street and accelerated out to make a turn onto the main road when the car just lost power and would not accelerate. i had to pull off the road and was lucky the car behind did not hit me. this has happened 2 more times including on an expressway where i had to pull off and get it towed. *tr
Driving my 2010 escape on the highway the engine stalled. the speed i was going was about 60 mph. with no prior warning the wrench light and check engine light came on, the rpm's fluctuated between 0500 and 2500 and i could not accelerate the vehicle. the dealer said the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced at my expense as it was not under warranty. *tr
On the morning of february 25th, i was pulling out of my garage when my car just stopped accelerating and the "wrench" light came on. it was barely idling, so i turned off the car and restarted it. it started normally, so i went on to work. that evening, i was driving on the interstate in the passing lane going approximately 75 mph when the car sort of lurched and then the "wrench" light came on and the car instantly started to slow down. i could not accelerate at all. i had to wait for traffic to move in the right lane, which was horribly dangerous, and then pull off the side of the road. i turned the car off and then restarted it. it took a second, but the car restarted and the wrench light was off, so i got back on the interstate again. that evening i started looking on the internet to see if anyone else had experienced this same problem, and that was when i saw that there was an investigation started by the nhtsa in regards to that very same problem occurring in several ford vehicles. this was extremely dangerous because when it happens, i have no control over the speed anymore and i am at the mercy of the cars all around me. i could have easily caused an accident that day. then, about a week later it happened again while i was on a busy city street going approximately 35 mph. finally, yesterday morning, march 20th, it happened on the interstate again. the dealer says there are no error codes, but they said they think its the throttle body and that it will cost about $300 dollars to fix. this should be a recall. this investigation needs to be concluded and a recall needs to be issued before someone is killed. this is extremely dangerous since it happens at faster speeds, while on the interstate. *tr
I was driving on the interstate going approximately 73 mph, when the car started losing speed, the wrench light came on, and i wasn't able to accelerate. i had to maneuver the car off to the side of the road, cut it off and then restart. it seemed to be fine at that point. however, that same morning i had the same problem, only it was in my driveway. i turned the car off and restarted it and it seemed fine. this is terribly dangerous since it happens on the interstate and if you are in the middle of traffic and are unable to keep up the speed, it could cause an accident. i have read many complaints about this problem with different ford models and i believe there should be a recall for safety reasons. *tr
2010 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to throttle control malfunction and requests reimbursement for repairs. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle suddenly lost all acceleration while traveling on the highway in cruise control mode. the rpm would not go above 700 despite, the consumer applying the accelerator pedal. the local ford service department gave the consumer some troubleshooting steps to reset the vehicle. the service advisor explained, the computer had stopped functioning., which caused the vehicle to shut down. the consumer was informed to allow the vehicle to sit in the off position for a few minutes and the re-start it again. it provided a temporary fix, which allowed the consumer to continue to her destination. the after the consumer retrieved her vehicle, the low pressure sensor had activated. she took the vehicle to her local mechanic, who observed the vehicle was leaking transmission fluid on the driver side between the axle and transmission. the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer. an inspection revealed the leak was coming from a seal. when the consumer picked the vehicle up, later that evening, the low tire pressure light illuminated. the consumer took the vehicle to a tire dealer, where they found a screw in the sidewall of the driver front tire. the consumer was informed, she would need to purchase two new tires. *jb
I was driving down the road at night, going 40 mph on a street when suddenly my car decelerating without warning and came to a stop on the side of a busy street. the engine light came on however, i was not able to get it to move. i had the tow company come get me and dropped it off at the ford dealership. it appears that the throttle body went out while i was driving. normally i wouldn't report this, but it seems to be a common dangerous event with the ford escape. *tr
The ford died on the interstate the second day(2/11/13) i owned it. it totally lost power and i had to coast onto the shoulder and wait. i returned it to the dealer where they kept it for a day and found nothing. it occurred three times the next week and i returned to the dealer. they cleaned something and the car worked without incident for a couple weeks. the car has intermittently quit over the last couple months. it got real bad this week (7/10/13) and when i took it to the dealership the computer finally registered a throttle problem. the part is on national back order and should take a month to get. *tr
I was driving down the road and my car stalled and started jerking before shutting down entirely. i would push on the gas and my car would not drive forward, as if it lost its power. the ford dealership had to replace the throttle body, after i owned the car for less than a year. *tr
This vehicle belongs to my daughter and while driving to get lunch the said vehicle slowed and started jerking and shaking. the engine didn't die but the accelerator would not throttle up. she eventually was able to return back to work and later in the afternoon had a doctor's appointment and she left work for her appointment and traveled about a mile before experiencing the same symptoms as previously stated. my daughter phone me for help and i went to her location and we traded vehicles and i tried to drive it but it wouldn't accelerate as before. the engine would idle and the speedometer indicated 3 mph. i notified ford and requested a wrecker and then was able to get the escape to drive about another mile before it stalled again. i waited for a wrecker that never came and i finally started the engine again and entered the interstate and traveled abt six miles at 65 -70 mph when it lost power again. i idled at 3 mph for about a mile to the ford dealership and they were closed. finally i idled another 2 miles to the daughter's residence and parked the vehicle in her garage.the next day i went to autozone and i asked them what codes p2111 and p2112 were and they advise me it had to do with the throttle body. i then drove it to the dealership at 3 mph and left it . i purchased a throttle body from another ford dealership and installed it in about twenty minutes. it seems to be running good now after test driving it for 15 miles with no issues. the vehicle's warranty expired @ 3yrs or 36,000 miles. *tr
The wrench icon illuminated the 4 times the escape failed to respond to acceleration. each time it needed to be turned off and restarted. 1st failure (1/24/13) was at about 20mph (or less) while making a u-turn. i was able to coast over to bus lane. 2nd failure (2/4/13) was at 50mph after traveling 30 miles in heavy traffic. i drove directly to a transmission shop and was told "what an extreme safety issue this could be and that this was an expensive transmission to rebuild and it would be $2000 to $2500." 3rd failure (2/5/13) and by now i am quick to start emergency flashers. i was unable to restart in n. i was able to pull into a turn lane and had to turn escape off and restart. i started researching on internet and determined that the problem was the electronic throttle body. 4th failure (2/11/13) same senerio. 2/14/13 i drove to don reid ford, maitland, fl. i spoke to the service manager who agreed with me that the problem was the throttle body. $300 fix included $99. labor with a 12 month warranty at any ford dealer. that point sold me since this vehicle was likely to travel out of town, and that it could be done while i waited. i was not happy to check my paperwork after i got home and find that instead of stating the issue it said "customer states replace throttle body per customer request" i called the service manager and expressed my concern that this very dangerous safety issue was not documented on my paperwork. i was told that since the dealer did not diagnose the problem, which would have cost another $99 that this was the way it had to be written up. i believe that this sudden gas pedal failure could cause an accident and should be a recall before a death occurs. this 2010 was built 12/09. we bought this escape 10/3/12 with 73,600 miles on it. we have tested it out on a 200 mile trip and a 1,000 mile trip.now trust the 2010 escape. *tr
As i was turning onto a busy street (turning right on red) my car without any indication suddenly lost power. i managed to coast into a parking lot and put the car into park and turn it off. i noticed a wrench symbol appear in the left panel, and the car immediately started again. i had just had my car serviced the day before (jan 19, 2013). this occurred approximately 3-4 times more over the next few days. i called the service department and described the problem, and took it in. they said they could fin no problem with my car that would cause this to happen. a week or so later it happened again. i called by to the service department and described that the same thing was still happening. they explained that they could see nothing on the machine that indicated a problem. i called ford and ask about any recalls and was told there were none for my vehicle. the service department recommended that i wait until the problem manifested and call because they were unable to duplicate the problem. months( late june) then it happened again. i took it in again and was told that everything was fine. on a trip to charlotte nc going approximately 70 mph in the left lane, my car suddenly lost power (scary!!!) i was able to make it to the right shoulder without incident. my car did this approximately eight times between concord nc and goldsboro nc (with two young children in the car). upon return, i called the service department and took it in again. this time they identified the throttle body--a day late and a dollar short--my car's warranty expired approximately two weeks earlier. my car is at the ford dealership as i write this waiting to be repaired. i am told the throttle body is on a national backlog. i feel that i have been mistreated as a consumer on so many levels. *tr
While driving there was a sudden loss of power. the wrench icon lit up on the dash display & the engine light came on too. there was no response from the gas pedal at all. the engine stayed on & all other features of the vehicle worked. i shut the car off & restarted the vehicle & continued driving. this occurred 4 times within a half hour. it was a miracle that i was not involved in an auto accident. i brought the vehicle back to a ford dealer where they replaced the throttle body. vehicle has been operating fine ever since & the gas pedal is more responsive than it was before. the original bumper to bumper warranty expired less than 2 months ago & i had to pay for this repair. i am very unhappy. *tr

I was driving down a side street toward an intersection going about 40 mph when my car appeared to die--i was able to coast slowly across the intersection into a parking lot--after 10 minutes waiting for my husband i attempted to start the car and it started right up--i followed my husband to the dealership and the problem did not reoccur--the dealership said no code had registered so there was nothing to fix--my husband researched this issue and discovered a lot of info about the throttle body issue on ford escapes--on may 2 was leaving the parking lot where i work and the car appeared to die again and i was able to go down my street at an idle speed to my house --we went to the dealership again and the manager acknowledged the throttle body issue but said since it didn't leave a code ford wouldn't fix it--after several hours the dealership called and said that they had gone ahead and replaced the throttle body stating on the invoice "during visual inspection found throttle plate binding and sticking closed. replaced"--we acknowledge that the dealership went above and beyond to fix our problem but are very concerned about the number of complaints about this issue we found on the internet--it is potentially a dangerous problem and, had i been on a freeway or in heavy traffic, would have possibly caused injury to myself or car damage. *tr
