We have classified the 481 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving the power train will reve up like it miss a gear and then resume to normal, sometimes it will shift gears on the highway while driving and hit real hard, like a clutch; this happens quite often during driving on the highway.
Driving on city street once at about 30mph the first time about 60mph the second time. i suddenly lose speed and vehicle goes into limp mode. the wrench light also comes on. i can turn vehicle off then restart and it seems to be ok. it's happened twice in a month. took it to dealership for repair under field service action 13no3. ford refused to repair because they could not get a code off my vehicle indicating it was the electronic throttle body. so i would have to wait until it happens again, have it towed with the engine running so the wrench light will stay on because it goes off when i restart it.
Vehicle has taken to stalling/dying without warning. this has happened three times in the past week. the car was in gear and going approximately 20-25 mph each time this occurred. fortunately, i was on residential streets with 25 mph limits and no cars were in the immediate vicinity on each occasion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving approximately 2 mph, a knocking sound was heard without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission seal fractured and caused the transmission fluid to flush out. the contact was informed to take the vehicle to a repair shop. the seal was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who diagnosed that the bearing needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact to nhtsa. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the electric power steering failed and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel to turn in either direction. the steering wheel vibrated aggressively. bob poynter ford, inc (526 s jackson park dr, seymour, in 47274, (812) 522-2040) diagnosed that the torque converter switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer and dealer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the failure mileage was not available.
The transmission makes a grinding noise when u put in drive and won't go anywhere and wants to roll away if the emergency brake isn't applied and the brake pedal vibrates when u step on the pedal
Power steering assist light came on couldn't turn steering wheel..while driving especially trying to turn or steer
As i'm driving the car would just stop giving gas the wrench light shows up and i have to cut the car off to get any gas it says it's the throttle body but i fixed that and it's still doing the same thing the wrench pops up and no gas pressure as i'm driving, and i was reading up on this it says ford has a problem with the power train or something that it causes the same problem, says it's official not a recall but something wrong with the programing i just got this call last year and don't know what to do
I was driving my son home from school in my 2010 escape, i went to merge onto the highway and as i pressed on the gas pedal to gain speed, my vehicle didn't want to take the gas and i thought it was going to stall. a wrench appeared on the panel and so did the service engine light. when i took it to my ford dealer, they told me it was the throttle body again and the purge valve again. i had the throttle body replaced in 2015 following the recall and the purge valve replaced in 2016. my complaint is they replaced the throttle body free the first time, why do i have to pay this time if it is still doing the same thing?
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the transmission failed to function properly. the dealer (jack metzer ford-lincoln, 1857 montour blvd, danville, pa 17821, (888) 494-7059) was contacted. an independent mechanic was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the power train warning indicator flashed. the manufacturer issued one recall for the power train and nine tsbs for the power train; however, the contact was uncertain of a permanent remedy and was waiting on a response from the manufacturer. the failure mileage was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the transmission failed to handle rapid acceleration when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the transmission remained in a higher gear despite the driver decelerating and the vehicle surged to a high rate of speed, which increased the risk of a crash. the contact heard an abnormal noise, the transmission was hesitant, and the vehicle lunged forward without warning. the contact had to drive in first gear (less than 25 mph) because of the failure. dewey moore ford (143 tx-49, hughes springs, tx 75656, (903) 639-2516) diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced and no transmission recalls were issued for this year, make, and model vehicle. the manufacturer issued nine technical service bulletins regarding the power train. the manufacturer was notified and stated that this year and model vehicle was not included in a recall campaign. no further assistance was offered. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Our 2010 dord escape's transmission failed in october, 2017 with only 41590 miles on the vehicle wile moving on city streets. replacement of the transmission was required costing us .$4,848.22.
Power steering assist fault light came on now i have no power steering, check fuel inlet light cover light keeps coming on, my transmission seems to lag alit and stuffers up hills and if i try to pass anyone
Vehicle has a power train failure when driving on the highway. at about 70 mph the car will begin to shudder and lose speed rapidly. the problem does not persist immediately thereafter, if we pull off of the highway and shut the car off, wait a few minutes, and start it up again, the power train light is off.
I was driving down the highway going around a turn the abs light and traction control light came on and the steering became hard like no power steering. shut car off when i arrived at destination started vehicle again lights were off drove a little ways same thing happend again
While at highway speeds, car rmps become erratic and no response from gas peddle. car goes idle and then stalls. vehicle must be restarted. yellow 'wrench' light comes on however once the car is restarted, it is no longer illuminated. no codes available from computer scan.
My car is rusting underneath the wheel suspension. the dealer is trying to make me pay nearly $800.00 to clear up the rust. the paint is also beginning to peel off the whole side of the car.the top molding is coming off the top of the car. my truck was defective and would not open. i paid $140.00 to repair. i paid for a noise in the rear of the car while the car was under warranty of $454.00. i had to pay for power train deductible even though it was a recall item. the dash malfunctioned and the lights went out and i had to pay dealer $100.00. all charges were incurred at taylor ford. the air condition went out last year. the top molding is coming off. i bought the car in summer 2013 with a full factory warranty. the trunk got stuck and would not open in january 2017.
Despite having the throttle body replaced, the vehicle still suffers from minor power surges and has stalled at highway speeds several times. these happen so randomly that it is difficult to predict when this might happen. *tr
Transmission - center support snap ring failure at 47,774 miles on vehicle. while parked attempting to shift from "park" to "drive" very loud clunking sound under vehicle at shifter/center console. vehicle was inspected 8/2016 all fluids topped off at dealer. a few days ago heard loud clunking sound - checked transmission fluid "none" completely empty (no leaking on ground) filled transmission fluid - same sound - immediately took to dealer. dealer advised center support snap ring failed - instructed me to call ford directly reference "ford special service message #22547" as this is a "known defect with this vehicle". called ford directly - case number was opened but no offer to assist with transmission replacement. dealer quoted $4,500 to replace transmission $2,600 for repair (repair is only guaranteed for 2 years) replacement is guaranteed for 3 years. thanks for nothing ford!
The automatic transmission in my 2010 ford escape started "flaring" between 2nd and 3rd gears "flaring" is a term used by ford to describe when the transmission delays shifting between gears and the engine revs until it finally shifts. . this has not really been a safety issue until two weeks ago. it started "flaring" occasionally between 1st and 2nd gears also. this is a concern because i'm not up to speed when this happens between 1st and 2nd. with traffic being heavy at times, i'm concerned that someone could rearend me when this happens. the dearer along with the ford representative haven't been able to resolve the problem between 2nd and 3rd gears so i doubt they will resolve this problem either. i'm further concerned that it could start happening with 1st gear and i could start to enter a highway and the car would not accelerate when intended and then suddenly accelerate when it wasn't safe to do so.
I was with my daughter on our way to take her back to college. while in motion driving westbound on 595 (a major hwy) my vehicle felt to have surged and lulled, surged and lulled a few times as i accelerated pulling on to 595 (an entrance with a slight incline) i continued to accelerate to safely merge with traffic on 595 w within moments the little yellow/orange "wrench" light illuminated on my dash and suddenly i had no control over my acceleration. my vehicle did not respond to my applying gas and i watched the speedometer rapidly drop before my eyes from 68 mph to 16 mph as i did my best to cross over several lanes in fast traffic to an exit for 95 n which was fortunately there. my vehicle "limped" (identically as others have shared) and i safely pulled over onto the grass where i waited the next 1.5 hours for the tow truck to tow me home at 9:00 p.m. while waiting i began trouble shooting my vehicles issue based on what the manual had stated and was terribly disappointed to find all the information regarding the etc and to learn that my vehicle was indeed one of those which was extended and with this defective part. i had not received the letter and so i was unaware of the "recall that wasn't..." it was an unfortunate experience and needless to say i am very disappointed in ford's lack of accountability. from what i've read this could have been much worse. now i am left with having to go to the dealership and hoping they address the real issue at hand and be accountable now and stand behind their vehicles. my ford has never left me stranded until now and sadly so this malfunction/defect could have been avoided had ford focused on customer safety and service satisfaction. i've owned 2 fords and would like to continue to do things the american way. ford will need to step it up and do their part!
Recall has expired on my suv due to it being over 150,000 miles. i didnt not recieve a letter indicating that i needed this update done to my car until aug 19 2016 when my car started to loose power with the wrench symbol being displayed on the dash. i called customer service on aug 20 2016 and spoke to representive that told me that my car had a recall on it that i needed to have done and said that i had 10 years from the time the car was made or 150,000 miles to have the service completed. i did tell him that my car was over the 150,000 but he told me that the service could still be done due to it being within the 10 year mark and that i should take to a ford dealership. so on aug 21 2016 i had my car towed to the ford dealership in greenville sc where now i am being told that the serive can not be done because i have over 150,000 miles. it will cost me $101.00 to have them check it plus the amount to repair it not to mention i am out of the money it costed me to have it towed to that location. if i had been told the service could not be done i would not have taken it there in the first place. i feel i should get some kind of compensation since i am out of money and never even recieved the recall letter. oh nor have i been able to speak to a manager from customer service.
the wrench light comes on. whenever it does car almost goes into a stall of sorts and am unable to go above 55 mph on highway. i know there was a safety issue with this but no real recall that ended july 2015. the warranty extended from what i have read. can i still get this fixed under warranty?
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving at any speed and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lost power. the wrench icon indicator remained illuminated on the instrument panel. the ignition was turned off and restarted. the vehicle was driven home and the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was not duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Like millions of other ford escape owners, i have a big problem with the throttle body on my 2010 ford escape limited v6. first i completely lost all propulsion/acceleration while driving at approx. 35mph. coasted to side of road, turned engine off. turned engine on and voila! runs just fine. several weeks later, at 75mph full loss of propulsion on a major highway, coasted to side of road, turned engine off. turned engine on and voila! runs just fine, until about 5miles down the road when it happened again. then about another 3wks later, it happened again on a backroad in nc at about 60mph. this trip it happened several times and finally once i got parked and turned the engine off and back on (just to check), the check engine light came on. when i left my location, praying i'd make it home, no engine light, but now the wrench light came on. stopped for gas (i had too, i was traveling through the country) and when i restarted the vehicle, no engine light or wrench light indicator. this problem has happened again on two more occasions yet neither problem indicator light has illuminated. i've had the truck "computer scanned" with no error/problem codes showing up. i've called 2 different dealerships, who told me "flat out" ...no problem lights/code...no fix under the "customer service extended warranty. you'll have to pay out of pocket. millions of these vehicles have been given the so called "customer service extended warranty" yet the stipulations it makes it virtually impossible to obtain the necessary repairs of a known defective part/system malfunction. if by chance the indicator lights do show up, they won't even accept a picture, showing mileage or something to verify it's that vehicle or take a document from another reliable source (i.e., advance auto, etc.) we need a recall! please help! *tr
Turned right onto freeway onramp with slight incline, after driving a couple of miles. made it about 20 feet when the accelerator pedal stopped working. unable to coast out of lane of traffic due to incline and was almost hit by multiple vehicles during rush hour. two red warning lights on dash (i think engine oil and battery). nothing stopped besides the gas pedal (radio, a/c were still running). put vehicle in park and turned off. was able to immediately restart and accelerator pedal worked again. vehicle had new throttle body related to csp 13n03 at 41,000 miles. current mileage 90,000.
Suv stalls, no acceleration. light looking like a wrench comes on when car stalls.
While accelerating, clunking noises heard in the transmission. when at 80 kilometers an hour, speed was suddenly reduced to approximately 30 kph.. causing a sudden deceleration almost caused me to be rear ended by another vehicle. according to ford, this is a known problem in the vehicle.. it cost me over $1000. to replace the pcm.. this is a direct safety issue.. i could have been killed because of a faulty part. the mechanic at the ford dealer informed me the problem exists because the pcm is placed in the main engine compartment and in a cold and damp environment, fails regularly. they replace these pcm's weekly.. so it is not just a problem for me, it is a money maker for ford. this needs to be classified as a recall issue and repaired..
While in motion at highway speeds the car jolted and the engine provided no power the the wheels and the wrench light illuminated. after a small amount of time the car jolted again and power was restored to the wheels. when car finally stopped and turned off and back on again reverse would not work. after taking the car in to a ford service station, the transmission was found to be stuck in fifth gear and chunks of the transmission were found inside of the transmission fluid which resulted in the need for a new transmission..
Vehicle acts as if it is going to stall but them jumps forward. both the check engine light and the service wrench went on. took it to dealer and they told me it was code p2119, throttle actuator control and throttle body range/performance. dealership stated that i didn't need to get it fixed right away. seems a little dangerous to me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the power train warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the vehicle did restart after the initial attempt. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while at a complete stop and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated before moving. the contact stated that the failure became worse over time. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fifth gear had become inoperable and the vehicle needed to be kept for further diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 69,000.
Was completely stopped and took off slightly pressing the gas peddle and it felt like it tried to stall out and then lunged forward. the service wrench came on and we stopped and turned the vehicle off then started it again and that time both service wrench and service engine light came on. went in to get the engine light tested and the result was throttle actuator control and throttle body range, code p2119
Tell us what happened: was completely stopped and took off slightly pressing the gas pedal and it felt like it tried to stall out and then lunged forward. the service wrench came on and we stopped and turned the vehicle off then started it again and that time both service wrench and service engine light came on. went in to get the engine light tested and the result was throttle actuator control and throttle body range, code p2119
We lost power from our gas pedal. then it got hot. then it would not move.
When i began to takeoff the engine or trans hesitated badly and the "wrench" light came on and stayed on until i turned off the engine. when i restarted the engine the wrench light did not come on. next day while driving the engine and transmission hesitated again and the wrench light came back on. this still continues.
While driving down the street, the vehicle suddenly seemed to stall. the 'wrench' light came on and the engine was still running but only moving at idle speed. pressing the accelerator did nothing, the engine kept stayed at idle. i pulled over and then turned off the engine. the car restarted and the wrench light was off. i accelerated up to street speed (30-35 mph) and the same thing happened again, the wrench light came on. i again pulled over, turned off the engine, and then restarted the car. this time the wrench light went off but the 'check engine' light came on and stayed on. i was able to drive the car where i needed to go by keeping it under 30 mph. i did make it to a auto-parts store and they were able to hook up a diagnostic machine to give me the p2111 trouble code, throttle body stuck open. when i restarted the car, the check engine light was off and i was able to accelerate up to 55 mph on the highway with no issues and later was on the interstate at 65-70 mph. nothing more happened over the next week but on my way to work this morning, 6/8, the same issue happened 5 times on my way to work. the car would just suddenly lose power and the engine would only run at idle speed. the wrench light came on each time. i would pull over and stop, as turning off the car while coasting and then restarting did not seem to 'reset' the car. when it restarted, the wrench light was gone but it came back on and the car stalled several times. after the third time, the check engine light came on again and it happened twice more after that. *tr
Purchased 2010 ford escape xlt in april 2015. (1) vehicle had sound coming from engine when accelerating. issued fixed by dealer replacing belt tensioner but noise has since returned. (2) vehicle already had or developed constant vibration at idle when in drive and foot on break and gets worse with a/c on. took to dealer 3 times who stated they replaced right engine mount and rear transmission mount but vibration continued after repairs. service dept tech stating that there is a strong vibration but that they are unable to determine engine vibration but that vehicle is operational. vibration is very strong and almost feels like engine wants to turn off at times. if transmission is put in neutral or park then vibration is gone and not noticeable while driving. (3) transmission shifting from 1st to 2nd is harsh and delayed at times causing a jerking motion on numerous occasions during city driving and transmission occasionally jerks when put in reverse but not always consistent. safety concern is vehicle feels as if it may shut down while this vibration is being observed and causes safety concerns when driving vehicle and that transmission may fail soon. purchased at fiat of fresno, fresno ca.
I pulled out of my street on to a main road and with no warning my escape shut off completely while driving and multiple cars almost hit me because it was so unexpected. now my car randomly shuts off and goes into limp mode, causing it to be quite dangerous to drive my vehicle because it gives you no warning.
While moving in left of two lanes in moderate traffic at ~58 mph the car lost all power. accelerator did not function. 'wrench' warning light on dashboard was illuminated. all electrical equipment, power brakes, and power steering seemed to function normally. vehicle had no power, meaning that driver could not control speed of vehicle. right turn signal was activated and the vehicle was 'coasted' to the right berm -- almost being hit by another vehicle! driver sat in vehicle assessing status of all gauges and (warning) lights. nothing appeared out of ordinary except for 'wrench' light. vehicle was turned of. after 30 second pause, vehicle was restarted. wrench light was not illuminated and, again, all gauges and lights appeared normal. re-entered traffic and successfully reached grocery store -- 1 mile away. vehicle was parked. upon completion of shopping vehicle was started and driver was able to return home (~5 miles) without event recurring. this is an extremely dangerous situation. it is only through 'good luck' that our vehicle was not hit by other traffic. driver had zero control over vehicle speed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle hesitated and the speed decreased to 40 mph. the vehicle stalled. the contact was unable to steer the vehicle, but was able to pump the brakes and stop the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was determined that the gears in the transmission had been stripped. the check engine light, oil light, and battery light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the dealer previously changed the fuel gasket twice, but that did not correct the failure. the vehicle was taken to another dealer who determined that the transmission failed. the vehicle had not been repaired. the contact spoke with the manufacturer in regards to a newsletter regarding replacing the throttle body and reprogramming the pcm under investigation pe13003. the manufacturer stated that the dealer did not feel the repair was warranted and the manufacturer declined to pay for the repair. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Driving normally, throttle control powertrain warning light comes on, check engine light comes on, car gas pedal does not work, engine idles and does not accelerate. when you shut the car all the way off and wait then restart the engine the car works as normal again. *tr
My 2010 ford escape has been stalling!!! i have already got the throttle body update last week! that is not the fix. i have had issues with my car (the transmission was bad- recalled, the steering wheel locked up on me driving the highway at 70 mph with my kid- recalled, the throttle body- fixed last week in the customer satisfaction update/recall) and yet it is still stalling. this is very dangerous and just an accident waiting to happen. this 5 year old car has been nothing but a death trap for me and my toddler. no one can tell me what is wrong with the stalling. i am taking it in yet again in hopes someone can tell me why my 5 year old car is shutting down on me. it shakes really hard like it's going to explode and then smells like gas before it shuts off. i have been beyond frustrated with this 2010 escape and can't get rid of it because everyone knows all of my issues with it. if my daughter and i die while in the car.....it will most likely be fords fault with as many problems i have had. please please recall whatever is causing these cars to shut off while driving. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/ford-news-and-recalls?page=2 (nhtsa said it has recorded 1,500 complaints about the problem, with three crashes and one injury so far. besides stalling, nhtsa said the affected vehicles may also surge unexpectedly as the rpms increase to prevent stalling during limp mode. an earlier throttle problem in the ford escape has been fixed, ford said. it is not thought to be related to the stalling problem.) please read that last line! *tr
Was driving, and transmission wouldn't allow rpm to go above 500 and continued to drop to 0 and shut off in the middle of the road. *tr
I was driving on a service road and was entering the freeway when the transmission started slipping. this caused my vehicle to start jerking. the vehicle behind me almost ran over me as i was loosing speed due to the transmission slipping. i managed to pull over and after a couple of minutes the transmission started working again and i was able to pick up speed and continue driving. this incident also caused my braking and steering to be erratic. this happened 3 times on dec 9, 2014. this is unsafe as it nearly caused a major accident in heavy traffic going south on interstate 35 out of austin. by my estimation there would have been no fewer than 5 to 6 vehicles involved in an accident had i not managed to pull over. *tr
The vehicle began having difficulty shifting into 2nd and 3rd gears in november 2014. apparently, there was a leak on the driver-side axle shaft that caused transmission fluid levels to drop. initially, we perceived this issue to be related to cold weather, but the leak was discovered when we finally took it to a dealership to discover the source of the problem in march 2015. a seal on the driver's side was leaking transmission fluid, resulting in a repair bill of $471. while checking online to see if this was an appropriate cost for the repair, i discovered that this was a common problem in both 2010 ford escape models and ford fusion models. the individual we spoke to at the dealership when picking up the vehicle informed us that they were well aware of this problem as well. he instructed us to save the receipts in the event of a future recall. ford had issued a technical service bulletin regarding this problem with the axle seal, so the company is well aware of this issue also. *tr
Immediately after having two items fixed that were recalled on my vehicle, (throttle body etc), the check engine light came on. i thought it was something done while fixing recall items; however, the ford dealership service dept advised me that it was not due to the recall items fixed. also it would cost $527.00 to fix, as the flap inside the nozzle/flex fuel pipe was not closing properly. i showed my anger and disappointment - which at that point, the service manager advised that my car had a white funnel that they would use to try to undo the flap. it worked. why in the world did they try to get me to pay $527 without first trying the funnel. another client in the service dept advised me to do the funnel thing before the service guy did. he has had the same issues. as of this morning, however, the check engine light is on again. i am going to try the funnel first, before i take it to my personal mechanic. i feel assured that i am not the first ford escape 2010 owner that has experienced this issue. please check into recalling this problem. thank you very much. *tr
I have had the two recalls fixed in july for my 2010 ford escape. however, in the past two months my car has been in the shop regarding the (wrench light) throttle/powertrain light coming on. my car looses power when i accelerate and the light comes on. it goes off once i turn off the car which is making it very difficult for the dealership to identify the problem. they claim they can't find anything and unfortunately i can't get the car to the dealership when the light is on. they have run a history for the codes that have come up on the car, but there are no recent codes/problems. i keep telling them that i am having the same problems listed in the ford recall notice but i am told that there is nothing they can do if there is no code showing a problem. i am terrified to drive my son in this car. i also commute 100 miles daily down a very busy highway and i am worried that the car will die and i won't be able to pull off the road safely. ford needs to do something immediately because the problem with the escape has not been fixed! *tr
While driving into work with my cruise control set at 60mph, my vehicle suddenly sputtered and the cruise control disengaged and there seemed to be a loss of power. i remember this description from the throttle bottle notification i received from ford a few months back. i had taken my escape into the dealership on 9/11/14 to have this taken care off and now 2 weeks later my vehicle now has the throttle control/powertrain warning light on and is showing all signs of the notification from ford. i know this issue has already been addressed, but now i am questioning as to whether or not ford is actually fixing the problem. *tr
I was driving down the highway and the vehicle lurched and lost power. the motor was still running, but when pushing the accelerator there was nothing. i pulled to the side of the road and stopped. the vehicle continued to "lope" and there was a light on the dash showing a little wrench. i turned the vehicle off and started it back up again, and it ran fine. this same thing has happened at least 4 more times. if there was no immediate way to get off the highway, this could be very dangerous resulting in a rear end collision. *tr
