We have classified the 481 complaints from 2010 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving at 40 mph the car suddenly lost forward motion even though the engine was still running; pressing the accelerator had no affect on the rpms; a wrench symbol appeared in dashboard. i turned the motor off; restarted and was able to turn around but the car stopped again as i was pulling into an intersection from a stopped position. after three more times of stopping and restarting the car, i was able to continue on and drove to the ford dealer about a mile from the incident. i was told the "wrench symbol" indicated transmission trouble. after their diagnosis i was told we needed a throttle body. the part is on national backorder, and i have now been one week without a car. i was told this has become a major problem everywhere and over 9,000 of this part are on backorder and all are needed to complete repairs. i was also told by the parts dept. that ford expected to need an additional 14,000 throttle bodies to meet the demand of the failing part. he also told me that the part has been re-engineered from the original factory installed part because of these failures. i have had to rent a vehicle at my own expense. *tr
turned to go up slight hill in residential neighborhood. car would not accelerate even with gas pedal to the floor. car shook and bucked. was able to limp up hill in several minutes and coast down other side to rest. dealer says it is a bad throttle body. part is on national recall. dealer also says part is not covered by powertrain warranty even though powertrain/throttle is the warning light that appears on dash and throttle body controls the power train. dealer in tallahassee, fl also reported at least 2 other escapes in shop with same problem and awaiting part. *tr
On 6/20/13, i was driving on the interstate when suddenly, truck started to decrease speed and yellow wrench symbol appeared on dashboard. i pulled over and cut off vehicle. when i started the vehicle up again, it made a sound as if it was going to kill, however, it cranked up and i proceeded to drive home, and wrench symbol didn't come on again. the next day, i went to work and vehicle operated fine that morning , until i left for lunch. the vehicle shut down while making a turn and battery light came on. luckily the dealership wasn't far, each time i stopped at a red light it killed. finally made it to the dealership, and was told the throttle body wire needed to be replaced. ended up paying $533.. *tr
Was driving on the highway when car lurched forward and then proceeded to coast. i pressed gas pedal but nothing happened. i had to steer through traffic to get to the shoulder where the car started to stumble like it was going to die. i shut off engine and restarted, it started normal so i proceeded home. i had less than a mile to home yet it died 2 more times. this is a huge safety problem seeing how you're dead in the water when the car malfunctions! it takes a lot to scare me but seeing how i was responsible for the safety of my wife and 4 yr old son, it scared me half to death! *tr
Was driving along at about 30mph when the engine cut down to what i would later find out was "limp home mode". the wrench and engine lights went on and the vehicle became unresponsive to the accelerator. i had traffic behind me and was going up a hill which i was barely able to sputter to the top off before turning off the vehicle. i tried starting it again and it hard started but idled fine and ran fine for about 50 yards before the same thing happened again. luckily, i was able to roll onto a neighborhood street and pull over. i eventually chanced a drive to the dealer and made it there without the vehicle failing. i was later told that it was a failure of the throttle body and the part was on backorder for 1-2 weeks. i saw that the 2005-2012 escapes are being investigated by the nhtsa for this issue so i assume backorder wait is because the part has been failing with frequency. although it did not cause an accident, the sudden change in responsiveness of the vehicle and the failure to accelerate could have easily lead to an accident and/or bodily injury. as it is, i am without my vehicle for 1-2 weeks. *tr
Driving approx 40mph when vehicle started stalling. rpm drops to approx 1000, gas pedal does not respond. happened multiple times in the past, taken to dealership but "no codes were found to suggest a defect." have to turn the car off and restart with it being in park before starts to run and wrench light turns off. drove to the dealer after that last incident on 6/21, code 2111 was found to be pending which would have been lost if i turned the car off, found it to be the electronic throttle body. for a car that is 3 years old and 40k miles, it is dangerous to have this defect as if it happens on the highway you are stuck with a chance for a semi-truck to rear end you. please allow this recall for the safety of others. *tr
Traveling along interstate highway at 60 mph in the center lane in rush hour traffic. notice sudden drop in power and vehicle starts coasting! pressing accelerator accomplishes nothing. "monkey icon" icon appears on dashboard. fortunately, no one was riding my bumper and i was able to move over into the right lane and coast to the next exit. engine continued to run as normal, the transmission just stopped working. *tr
The car started to slow down, i pushed the gas and the car started to stall out. i was able to pull the car off the road and when i put the car in park it completely stopped. the wrench alert signal was on and the car was towed to the ford dealership. the throttle body was stuck closed. *tr
On 6/18/13 driving on a 45 mph road slowed to make a turn and lost all power to by 2010 ford escape, also the wrench showed up on my dash. i turned it off and back on again and it ran fine. the next day took it to my local dealer in clarion, pa and they couldn't figure out what the problem was. on 7/1/13 i experienced the same problem, driving 45 mph when i experienced complete loss of power. this time the vehicle was sputtering, turned it off & back on but had to give it gas to start. the wrench showed up again. called the local dealer in clarion, pa and stated i had researched this on the internet & found 21 pages of other people experiencing the same exact problem with the majority having to have the throttle body changed. also found that nhtsa is investigating the complaints. i don't appreciate it when the dealership does not take the severity of this problem seriously. they stated they would order part but didn't know when it would come in. i called another local dealership & they said they could have the part in 3 days. what's up with that? really don't like driving this vehicle since you never know when it is going to occur. this is definitely a safety issue and feel it should be addressed by ford. do we need to have numerous people getting killed before something is done about it? *tr
While driving our escape, you try to accelerate and there is nothing there. you can push the gas pedal to the floor and the engine does not respond. this has happened 4 times in about 6 day period. we have had to pull our vehicle to side of the road/highway and shut it off and then restart it. it does starts working again but we don't know when it will happen again. we took it to harrold zeiglers in kalamazoo michigan, and they told us it was a electronic throttle body and there was 8013 of them on back order and no eta on when they will be in. i called ford customer service and they told me the same story.[xxx], and [xxx] were the first to agents i spoke with. i told them that their answers were not good enough and i wanted to speak to their manager. he called me back 2 hours later(terry badge#62889) and he told me they were already aware of this issue and they could not help me because i had too many miles on my escape(75000) which i told him i wanted to speak to his supervisor. he told me his boss would give me the same answer. i asked him if the national highway safety commission was aware of this issue and he said they were and that my issue and conversation would also be reported. i am not sure why there is not a recall for this issue as there are currently 8013 on back order. i wonder how many have already been replaced. this issue could cause a serious accident for someone else or my wife as she is the driver of our escape. we are currently without a vehicle to drive because of this. thank you for your time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Vehicle stalled several times. loses power with no acceleration when feeding gas. wrench indicator light comes on, indicates throttle body issue. vehicle needs to be restarted. took to the shop after 3 incidences. mechanics tell me the electronic throttle body has failed. parts on national back order due to high frequency of incidences. please issue a recall! *tr
I had a problem with acceleration where the escape would cough and buck when trying to accelerate. at that time ( a couple of weeks after purchase), i took it back to the dealer and they sent it for a "software update". it didn't buck continually after that, but was still gutless and slow. yesterday 8/2/2013, i was at a stop light and tried to accelerate and the car just wouldn't go. engine still running, but no power to propel forward. "wrench" light came on dash and i coasted to repair garage at corner. i restarted engine and light went away. garage employees recommended i keep driving to see if light comes back on. i continued on my way and was turning right and as i made the turn, the escape completely lost power. thankfully i had a shoulder to coast on to or i would have been hit by oncoming traffic. this time, "wrench" light and "engine" light came on. i had to be towed to a ford dealership and the repair was made there. the diagnosis and correction was for a throttle body. from my repair slip it says "10foz retrieved codes p2111/p2112 - faulty after researching the problem online, i see it has been an issue with others. mine was fixed under the warranty. i am reporting the problem just in case you are keeping records of how many ford escapes have had this problem. *tr
Vehicle (2010 ford escape) traveling at appx. 20mph on freeway when it started bucking, lost some but not all power. pulled vehicle to side of freeway, shut off engine. restarted 30 seconds later. restart was difficult but successful. successfully drove vehicle to dealer for repair. dealer claims this is electronic throttle body issue. cannot repair until part arrives in approximately one week. very similar behavior from car in two separate incidents last week - both happened immediately upon start up in my driveway. i shut engine off each time and restarted. restart was difficult but not successful. similar incident 9 months ago (sept. 2012). vehicle traveling at appx. 65mph on freeway when it noticeably jumped, immediately lost most but not all power. towed to dealership. dealer could not repeat nor verify concern in 4 days / 150 miles of testing. research has shown that nhtsa is investigating similar issues on this and other model year ford escapes. my experience sounds very similar to complaints from other drivers. *tr
Experienced repeated stalling of engine while going 40+ miles per hour. engine would run for approx. one block then stall. vehicle went to limp mode. *tr
While driving the engine lost power. the engine continued to run but would not add any rpms when applying the accelerator. the engine light also came on. i was able to keep the vehicle moving at an idle to get out of traffic. top speed was only about 5 mph. vehicle had to be towed to dealership. service department was unable to find anything wrong with my vehicle. about one month later the same problem occurred while driving on roadway approximately 50 mph. same symptoms with same results. service department did replace the throttle housing this time. *tr
Driving on the highway 55-60 mph, the engine seemed to shake/jump and the the care lost all acceleration power. the "wrench" light came on, i coasted off the highway onto the shoulder, turned the car off and restarted. it ran fine for a few minutes and then did it again. it happened a total of 5 times getting it to the dealer about 12-15 miles away. dealership has reported it is the throttle box and needs to be replaced. the part is on national backorder of 1 to 3 weeks! *tr
While driving 70 mph down interstate my 2010 escape suddenly lost all power without warning. the wrench light on the dash came on, the gas pedal was non-responsive and the engine idled extremely rough at a low rpm. luckily i was able to get to the side of the road - nearly caused an accident. unsure what to do i looked in the manual and saw that the wrench light meant powertrain failure and it advised to contact dealer. i had shut the car off, but decided to try and move it farther off the road so i started it again. the light was no longer on and the engine was running smoothly. i decided to attempt to get closer to home and drove about 5 miles before it happened again. i was in the right hand lane, so i was able to pull right off the road. this incident happened two more time during a 20 mile trip. this is an extremely dangerous issue. i could have caused a horrible accident tonight and there is no warning that this is going to happen. by the sound of it the throttle body is on national backorder. i hope ford steps up and takes care of this huge safety hazard. *tr
Driving on interstate at 55-60mph when the car stopped accelerating. hit the gas pedal but nothing happened, was able to safely coast to the side of the road and turn car off. power, lights, & a/c were still working, but car would not accelerate. wrench/check engine light came on. when starting the car back up it stalled for a minute and then came on. the issue recurred a minute later and this time the car started jerking before i was able to put it in park and turn it off. the check engine light went off after i started it the second time and i was able to get it to an auto shop without another incident. the auto shop still has my car and cannot figure out the issue. *tr
Was driving down a busy highway. suv decelerated in speed and wrench light came on. we had a self test diagnostic got code p2111 took it to shop they got same code and replaced throttle body at my expense. used a ford authorized dealer. *tr
During highway driving at approximately 40 mph the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration, stalling, and the throttle/power train indicator light came on. i was forced to pull over on the side on the road, turn off the vehicle and restart. the care drove for approximately 3 more miles and then the issue recurred. i immediately proceeded to my local dealership (dealership where vehicle was purchased). during that trip, the "check engine" light came on. i was advised by the service technician that this was due to a faulty/failed throttle body but that the parts were on back order indefinitely with no word from ford as to when they would be available. i was advised to continue to drive the vehicle in its current state until such time as the part was available. *tr
I was traveling at highway speed, 60 mph, when the engine suddenly lost power and i had to coast to the side of the road. the warning indicating a problem with the throttle control/powertrain came on. i turned the motor off and restarted the engine, the light went off, and i proceeded to work without further incident. after researching on the internet and talking to my dealer, i was told it was a defective throttle body part and is on "national back order" and will be at least 2 weeks before they can get the part in. on the same day, on the drive from home from work, the exact same problem happened, but this time at about 35 mph in traffic. fortunately no one was right on my bumper at the time. there is absolutely no warning when this happens, it just suddenly loses power. *tr
On 06/12/2013 while driving on a 2 lane highway the engine went into the "limp" mode with rough idle and no power. the wrench light on the instrument cluster came on. we were able to stop on a side street to check the vehicle out. after restarting the vehicle, it ran fine for several days, then repeated the same "limp" mode twice in a few miles with a shut down and restart of the engine clearing the symptom. today 07/04/2013 on a 20 mile trip the vehicle went into the "limp" mode 6 different times. a couple of these times were on a busy 2 lane road with no shoulder almost resulting in being hit in the rear. the vehicle currently has 93500 miles on it and will be parked until repairs can be made. from reading other complaints this also sounds like a throttle body issue that others are having. we were fortunate not to be involved in an accident on each of these stalls. i urge that continued investigation go into this problem so that if it is the issue with other vehicles that causes the stalls these vehicles can be recalled and the issue corrected before someone is involved in an injury or worse accident. *tr
I was driving home going around 50 mph uphill when suddenly my car done a big lurch and began to lose power. thankfully i was able to pull over. vehicle was not under warranty so i took it to my repair guy who owns his own shop. the dealership charges too much. on 6-18-13 he informed me that the part was on backorder, possibly 3-4 weeks. well guess what its now 7-20-13 and it still has not come in. not only am i pissed but when i emailed ford motor company about my concern and problem, they basically told me nothing useful, only that there were no open recalls or warranties open for my vehicle. i told a recall needs to be issued before someone gets killed. so many of these complaints i have read were of people driving on the interstate. and fortunately i am able to borrow my grandma's vehicle and not having to rent one. i had to rent, that would be a whole different story in itself. fix the problem ford. take care of your customers!!! i just hope when the part does finally come, the problem will be fixed and won't reoccur. *tr
I was driving on a city street on 06/12/13 at approx 35mph and the acceleration/gas pedal lost all power. i pushed on the gas pedal and had no power. my veh was towed to the local ford dealership (where it was purchased) and i was told it was not a common occurrence and they would order the part for the repair. a veh was not available from the dealership and i had to rent a vehicle. i was told to keep the rental for at least two days. i had the rental vehicle for a week and the part was still not available. we were then able to borrow a vehicle. the dealership told my husband that the part was on back order and they did not know when it would be available. my husband started calling other local ford dealerships on 06/25/13 and was able to locate the part for the veh. we received a call on 06/26/13 that our veh was repaired. we were not charged for the repair but we are out of $400 for a rental vehicle. this will be my last ford purchase. *tr
As we were driving down the road we lost power, had to pull over to the side of the road. the vehicle then started lurching forward and we had to turn the car off to make it stop. when we restarted the car it would drive fine for a few miles then lose power again and again begin to lurch forward. this happened 4 separate times before we had the car towed to the nearest dealership. this is a common problem in this model ford and it needs to be recalled. *tr
I was stopped at a red light preparing to turn right. while at a complete stop, the vehicle jolted forward momentarily and again came to a stop. i turned right and immediately my accelerator failed and the car would only move forward at a speed less than 5 miles per hour. i coasted into a parking lot where i turned off the vehicle and restarted it. it accelerated normally for a moment before failing again. the warning light that appeared was correlated with the power train, per the vehicle's instruction manual. when inspected by a ford dealership, the mechanic said the throttle system had failed and needed to be replaced. all inspections and services related to the vehicle were up-to-date and there were no other problems detected. no one was injured. *tr
Car cut off while driving. ford dealer said it is the throttle body. will take 4 to 5 weeks to receive the replacement part. *tr
The car had been parked and when i started it and backed up the wrench light was on and it had not power the second time i was stopped at a red light and when the light changed i stepped on the gas and had no power and the wrench light was on it was happen several times i turn the car off and restart it and it drives fine. *tr
This first started several weeks one day after filling up my car all of sudden it would not go. i pulled over barely missing being hit. i turned the car off for a few minutes and it would start up and i could go. this didn't happen again for a couple of weeks. the next time i was low on gas. it happened two more times. i kept thinking i had bad gas. then last saturday i was out shopping and it happened numerous times. i was so scared by the time i went home i was a nervous wreck. i can't tell you how many times i was almost hit. even the morning i took it into the car dealer it died four times on the way. my car acted just like the situations in your article. now the dealership at ford is making me rent a car. i can't drive mine. ford is saying they don't know if it is a week or a month before they get these parts in. they can't fix my car because there is such a big back order for this part. somebody needs to get these motels recalled and get them fixed. *tr
Wrench light came on while driving car and barely had enough rpms to get off road. had to pull battery cable off to get car to move. this happened three times to get the car 20 miles to home then trailered to ford dealer. said it was a bad tb. the car has also stalled at 0mph and sometimes surges. one time this winter the car surged causing it to hit my tractor and busted bumper cover and fog lamp. *tr
The engine stalled while i was driving on the express way. with no power i coasted (luckily) to the shoulder. the same thing happened to my wife in the same vehicle the previous monday. it was towed to a mechanics garage where it was diagnosed with a throttle body problem. he cleaned it, test drove it and sent her on her way. obviously there is still a problem. *tr
While traveling on a state highway the vehicle suddenly lost power although it was still running. the powertrain light came on. we limped off the highway. after turning the vehicle off and turning it back on, the vehicle was able to run again. the light goes off and stays off until the next incident. the incidents happen very frequently now, and because of this, we are unable to use our vehicle at all. this has happened with me right in the middle of an intersection. we had a code run and have been told it is the throttle body, which is apparently a common problem. we have been unable to obtain the part to repair it so far. *tr
While driving on the interstate in morning rush hour traffic, the vehicle suddenly lost power and throttle control (went into limp mode). i had to move over to the emergency without power and stop the vehicle. after turning the vehicle off for a few minutes, it started and ran ok. then on 10 june, the same issues occurred again at highway speeds but in little traffic. again on 14 june it happened 3 times within driving 10 miles again on the interstate at highway speed and in afternoon rush hour traffic. the third time an obd ii dtc was issued. upon arrival home i scanned the code and it was p2112 throttle body stuck closed. *tr
I pulled out of my driveway and around the corner when the car would no longer accelerate and a wrench warning light appeared on dashboard. i pulled to side and checked the owner's manual to find out the wrench meant something was wrong with the throttle/powertrain. i turned the car off then back on. the wrench disappeared and i was able to drive it home. when i got home, i called our usual ford service guy and was told it could have been something lodged in the air filter but that if it happened again to call them. i was able to drive it to work and run some errands however i felt like it was jerking. then later that afternoon, while driving approximately 40 mph on a main road, it happened again. once again, i was able to pull to the side somewhat (it was a long right hand turn lane). i turned off the car and back on, the wrench went away so i tried to move forward and it happened again just after a few feet. i turned the car off and one again and this time the wrench disappeared however the check engine warning light came on and that's when i knew i could not trust driving this car any longer. i called ford, called a tow truck and it is at the dealer now. we were informed it was a bad throttle body. i had done some online research after it happened that morning and found out there were many, many instances just like mine so when it happened again in the afternoon, i pretty much knew that was going to be the outcome. we were told by the dealer that they've been having an issue getting the part lately so it'll be another 5 days before they'll receive it and it'll cost $488+tax because it's not covered under warranty. *tr
While driving at roughly 25-30 mph vehicle stopped accelerating and coasted regardless of pressure to gas pedal. i was in a busy intersection and was unable to get out of the way. wrench light came on when vehicle stopped accelerating. i coasted to a driveway (no shoulder) and shut off the engine and restarted the vehicle. at this time, the engine light was on with no wrench light. car accelerated fine so i continued home. in the span of 5 miles, this same incident occurred 4 times. turning the car off and on would temporarily fix the issue, but the engine light never left. in route, i stayed on roads with shoulder allowances or frequent turnoffs, where possible. the following day, i took the vehicle to a mechanic who ran diagnostic and determined it was the throttle actuator control system. currently having trouble finding the part to fix the issue, because of its current high demand. i'm told it could be a month. *tr
I was driving on the highway when the motor in the escape just died, i was forced to move from the left lane of the highway to the right with almost no power. no accident occurred i took the truck to the ford dealership and they say that part is on national backorder ford is making 4000 of the throttle bodies in order to keep with the demand. *tr
Throttle body failure, making my 2010 ford escape inoperable. it shuts down completely on the highway. i lost power on the interstate while in traffic. this happened 3 times and i've had to rent a car while i wait for the throttle body part which is on back order. *tr
The first incident occurred around june 3, 2013, but i don't remember the exact date. after backing out of my driveway and shifting into drive, as i accelerated through 2nd gear, it dropped out of gear into idle and i had no engine acceleration response from the gas pedal, no matter which gear i put it in. the wrench light also came on. after turning the engine off and restarting, the wrench light went out and the car worked normally. this happened approximately 5-7 times beginning around june 3, 2013 until i decided to take it to the dealership on june 18, 2013. i paid ford $120 to diagnose the problem. they were unable to find anything wrong, but did reset the shift points. it did not happen again until july 12, 2013. while driving to work at approximately 60mph, the engine dropped out of gear and the wrench light came on. i had no engine response with the gas pedal and had to carefully coast over to the service/emergency lane. while on the side of the road, i called ford and they told me after i brought my escape in, multiple escapes and fusions had come in with the same problem which was troubleshoot down to the throttle body. they ordered the throttle body and said they would call me when it came in. i turned off the ignition, restarted, and continued driving. approximately 2 minutes after getting back on the road it happened again, only this time the check engine light came on along with the wrench light. this time after restarting the engine, the check engine light stayed on. i drove to ford and left it running so they could acquire any codes that were active. the throttle body was ordered on july 12, 2013 and ford has no estimate of a shipment date. the car is currently with ford awaiting the part while they pay for my rental. there are also two vehicles ahead of mine at the dealership waiting for the same part. *tr
The car stalled in an intersection. no light or warning, just instantly stopped. called the dealer, he said no light, no code, no idea. after multiple more times, it finally did it and engine light came on. it indicated a bad throttle body. took it to the dealer. he called a day later and said part would not be in for over a month. although the vehicle is still under emissions and drive train warranty, apparently the throttle body has nothing to do with either. i feel ford should recall, pay for repair and compensate if part is unavailable for over a month. there is not much incentive to purchase new as this is the newest vehicle i own. currently relying on 15 year old truck to get to work. *tr
Traveling on vacation on an ohio highway when engine stalled and went into limp home mode and yellow wrench light came on. i was able to pull over and had to shut the vehicle completely off. after about 5 minutes i was able to get the car started again. this problem did not reoccur until august 20. *tr
I was driving about 40mph and my escape all of sudden lost power. the vehicle stayed running but it would not drive forward. the traffic was light, so i was able to pull over with my flashers on and stop. had the traffic been in rush hour there could have been a major accident. i tried to put the vehicle in reverse and drive and it wouldn't do anything, but the engine stayed running and the "wrench warning light" appeared on the dash. i then turned the vehicle off and waited a few minutes and started in up again. everything then ran fine. i took the escape to the ford dealer where they found out that the power failure did occur in the throttle body air intake and it needed to be replaced. they also informed me that they had another escape that was needing to be worked on with the same problem and parts were on backorder and it would be a few weeks before mine would be fixed. *tr
Driving on the interstate at 60 mph, vehicle without warning is unable to accelerate while attempting to change lanes. again on 6/12, accelerated from a stop light, without warning the car is unable to continue to accelerate and stops in the middle of an intersection during rush hour traffic. turned car off, turned it back on again, was able to get out of the intersection and pull over to the right hand lane before it stopped accelerating again. vehicle was towed to ford dealership they found that the throttle body needed to be replaced. *tr
As i was driving my 2010 ford escape on the highway, it started to buckle and it eventually turned off by itself. the only thing that was remaining on was my radio. i had no steering, and the gas pedal did not even work. on a busy highway, i had to some how pull over, put the car in park, and, had to restart it. i did notice a wrench symbol on my dashboard that lighted up. didn't know what it meant, so, i went ahead and got my manual out. the symbol has stated that it was "the throttle/powertrain" and i needed to see a dealer as soon as possible. this incident has happened before, i just did not keep track of it. this time it was more worse than the others. on june 1st 2013 it actually did it twice in one day. thankfully the second time around i was in the clear and pulled over into an office complex. had to do the same thing over again. please check into this defect. it is really dangerous, scary, and its an accident waiting to happen. luckily for me, that this did not happen. as of june 3rd 2013 the dealer replaced my throttle auto body. i am hoping that this doesn't happen to anybody else. it can cause serious damage to another person, if, they are not careful, and, don't know what to do. thank god, i had my husband with me when this happened. the other times, i was actually by myself and scared out of my mind . i was in the middle of the road and on a busy bridge when my truck completely stalled on me. i could have killed somebody or myself. my total bill for this part to be replaced was $455.00. i am hoping you can check into this problem for other drivers as well. one day this is going to happen to somebody, and, it will cause a very serious accident. *tr

Driving on highway, at 65 mph. car loses power and have to cost to a stop. very dangerous situations trying to cross 4 lanes of traffic to get to shoulder of highway and stop safely. this happened once on 4/26/13, took to dealership, they said nothing wrong. continued to drive until happened again. happened on 5/30 and 5/31 repeatedly until got the vehicle to a repair shop. repair shop has had the vehicle for 10 days due to part not available. part is not available because this is a recurring problem for ford and these vehicles. this is a very serious safety issue and needs to be recalled! please do something! *tr
While i was driving, the car started stalling : the speed indicator started coming down and even pressing on the accelerator, there was no pick up and the wrench sign lit up indicating the power train defect.i moved the car to the shoulder and waited for some assistance. i mechanic friend of mine came after about 45 min. he started the car and the wrench sign was no longer there. rode the car for about 10 miles to get to my house. ran some errands (about 20 round trip miles) later and the car rode fine. on 5/30/2013 morning (today) on my way to work, the truck stalled again with the lit up wrench sign. pulled on to the shoulder, turned off engine and got the truck towed to the closest ford dealer - bob davidson ford,, parkville, maryland 21234 (410-661-6400). they performed diagnostics for a fee of $123.00 and said that the throttle body assembly need to be replaced. the service dept indicated that they were out of these parts and is backordered. they were not sure when they will get the part. i drove the suv home with no further problems. i called ford motor co. customer relations and complained. they issued a claim number cas[xxx]. i am unable to rent a car as i don't know how long it would be until they get the part to fix. i searched and found that this had been a recurring problem for the escape 2010. ford should be responsible to repair this problem, i asked the customer service representative "is ford waiting until people get killed to fix this dangerous defect?". it is quite dangerous if it happens while driving in the express way at 55-60 mph in an inside lane. god help the escape owners. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I was driving and my vehicle just stopped working at least i was able to coast to the side of the road. the part is not in stock at any ford dealer and has been back ordered so to me that means it is a regular problem on this vehicle. i need to know if other cars had this problem. *tr
I have been a ford owner for years, and this is the first complaint i am filing. my 2010 ford escape suddenly lost all power and i had to pull it to the side of the road. it restarted and resumed driving normally. the next day i took it to the dealer and was told it was the electronic throttle body. since i was on the interstate outside a major city, i feel this is a real safety hazard. i had no ability to power the vehicle other than its own momentum. i really want to see this part recalled! *tr
While driving on the expressway i suddenly lost acceleration, began to lose speed and noticed the wrench light on the dashboard came on. i had to pull over onto the shoulder while semi trucks and cars blew past me. as i was trying to contact roadside assistance, i restarted the car and noticed the wrench light was gone. i was then able to get back on the road and continued to my destination without further incident. i took my car into a certified ford dealership for service and they advised they found nothing wrong with the vehicle and located no stored codes in the computer. yesterday on 06/11/2013 the same thing happened again while i was on the expressway. i had to get on the shoulder wait a few minutes and restart the car. both times i was so grateful my 19 month was not in the car with me which is unusual. i plan on taking it again to have it checked out but i'm anticipating the same response. *tr
