AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 14

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2010 Ford Escape

The car stalled while driving. the first time it stalled i was driving 65 mph with children in the car with me. after i came to a stop, the car restarted and after driving 2 more minutes it stalled again at 45 mph. after the second stall the engine light came on. i had a diagnostic report done and the report said "throttle actuator control system-stuck closed" and "detected the throttle plate is at a lower angle than commanded." i hope this is resolved quickly. it is not covered under my warranty. *tr

Transmission started jerking ,then it would not move no gear worked. *tr

Driving home during rush hour, acceleration was acting odd. fluttering in a sense. i thought the cold weather may be the cause and it was just warming up. driving normal it sputtered and slowed down. wrench light came on. i was able to creep along to a bus stop turn out. idled rough. i stopped the engine, and waited. it restarted a few minutes later fine, and was able to get home. the whole way rough idle, rough acceleration as well. this could have been so much worse if i was on the freeway. it will be towed tomorrow to ford to find issue and fix. i sure hope this is covered under warranty. *tr

I was driving in congested morning traffic and the engine stalled. the wrench indicator light popped on as i lost acceleration. i was able to coast on to the median. however, i was almost struck from behind by another car. after about 30 seconds, the car started back up and i immediately went to work and made it home without problems this evening. after researching on the internet, it appears this is a recurring problem and just a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured or hurt. i am afraid to drive now as other complaints indicate this has not only been occurring for quite some time, but it may also continue to happen more frequently and eventually stop running altogether. *tr

Going to dinner with his two boys vehicle almost stopped in the highway and almost rear-ended. pull vehicle over waited restarted and drove a short distance and it stopped again in traffic. throttle body going bad. there has been numerous complaint and someone is going to get killed over this defect. *tr

As i was driving down the interstate with the cruise control set at 70mph, the vehicle turned the cruise control off and decelerated almost immediately to 60mph which caused an uncomfortable thrashing forward of myself and my 2 children. we had our seat belts on, so we were not injured. the vehicle continued to lose power, so i pulled off the highway and placed the vehicle in park and turned off the engine. i noticed a little wrench had appeared in the left corner of my dash display. i looked up this symbol in my owners manual. i then decided to go ahead and try to continue driving as i was a good 75+ miles from home and i was in a very remote area. when i started the engine, i noticed the service engine light came on and did not go back out. i proceeded down the interstate approximately 2 miles before the vehicle did the same thing. this time i attempted to accelerate and with the gas pedal to the floor, had no success. the car just continued to lose speed, so again , i pulled off the highway and this time i let the vehicle proceed as far as it could without applying the brake. as the car was nearly stopped, it started to shake as if it were about to shut off. i turned off the engine and again, restarted after a short break and was able to make it the rest of the way home. *tr

I was accelerating into traffic when, all of a sudden, my vehicle lurched forward, began to rapidly lose speed, and would not accelerate--even with the gas pedal pushed to the floor. simultaneously, the yellow wrench light illuminated on the lower left-hand side of the dashboard. i had to immediately cross over two lanes of traffic and pull to a side street, at which time, my car came to a complete stop. i then put the car in park and turned off the ignition. a search of my owner's manual revealed that the wrench light indicated a powertrain or throttle failure. i immediately contacted the ford dealership and had the car towed in for inspection. i was told it was a burned out throttle body assembly as a result of a faulty vapor lock cap. a day later, the throttle body was replaced along with the faulty vapor lock component at a cost of over $700. neither part was covered under my warranty. interestingly, i went back through my service records and noted that in december of 2012, i stated to a local ford service manager that my car was sluggish and would not immediately accelerate through turns. the service tech could not replicate the problem and so nothing was done aside from cleaning the throttle body and fuel system. if you are experiencing occasional "hitches" or lag times in acceleration when the gas pedal is depressed, be aware that these are hallmarks of a failing throttle body and it may be time to take your vehicle in and have the throttle body and vapor recovery system examined. it's time to issue a recall, ford. *tr

Backed out of parking space, wrench lit on dash, no throttle control, erratic idle. placed in park, shut engine off and restarted, light went off. drive 5 minutes, wrench light came on again, no throttle control. almost got rear-ended. again put in park and restarted, made it home. very dangerous loosing power like that with no warning, some say its the throttle body, others the electronic gas pedal. vehicle is out of warranty and i don't want to throw money at parts. ford should recall this. *tr

While making a left at an intersection the engine cut to idle and would not accelerate. after pulling to the side of the road the car was shut off and started again and ran ok. the car was take to the dealer the next day. we were told the throttle body was bad. i was also told they go bad a lot and they not covered by the engine warranty. traffic was light at the time if it was heavy this could have caused an accident. there have been times in the past were the car hesitated badly from a stop. *tr

On sunday october 13, 2013 i was driving my 2010 ford escape on a 2 lane highway going approximately 45 mph when the wrench icon illuminated and my car started bucking and came to a stop. the engine didn't shut down, but idled erratically with no accelerator response. i coasted onto a shoulder where i restarted the engine and was able to continue driving until the wrench icon illuminated and it happened again. it has happened multiple times since and i am currently sitting in a carson city, nv ford dealership (october 17, 2013) where they are telling me that the throttle body is bad. i showed them the nhtsa investigation and they said they wouldn't cover it because there is no recall. *tr

Had a car full of family while i was driving up a hill at about 35mph when the car thrusted forward then felt like it shifted into neutral. i had to coast into someone's driveway and had it towed to the dealership. the dealership called and said the problem was with the throttle body. *tr

I was driving from virginia towards the delaware beaches. after crossing the bay bridge in maryland on route 50 ... driving in the left lane traveling 55mph, and all of a sudden i lost the ability to accelerate and began losing speed. i had to pull all the way over to the right lane losing power as each second passed. i was able to coast along the side of the road to pull off the highway. after getting to the ford dealership .. i was told that i need a throttle body .. i'm here at the dealership now .. and the part is well over $400 .. have not received the bill yet.. but my guess, with labor between $500-$600! this is ridiculous as the car is only 3 years old! please make ford recall this part - throttle body - as it seems unfair to have such a high cost repair after 3years of owning the vehicle -- thank you for all your help! this is a safety risk -- someone could have died in this process ..as this occurred on the highway -- please do the right thing, and save future lives.. thank you! *tr

While driving out of my subdivision, my ford escape lost all power. the engine was surging but the vehicle would not respond when pressing the gas pedal. i turned the vehicle off and restarted it, but the same problem occurred. the vehicle was towed to the dealership where a diagnostic test revealed a failed throttle body. even though my vehicle is slightly under the 5 yr/60,000 mile powertrain warranty, the dealership is insisting on using my extended warranty to cover the part which will cost me $100 deductible and i will be responsible for the most of the cost of my rental vehicle (extended warranty company only pays rental car for labor hours on vehicle repairs, the vehicle will not be pulled in for repair for several days). *tr

While traveling at approximately 45 mph ,vehicle dies,no power and the throttle position sensor comes on. *tr

Stopped at a light. when it turned green, turned right, as i was going around the corner the car did not respond correctly. immediately pulled into a parking spot. with it in park, tried pushing on the accelerator, it did not respond at all. when i tried backing up it lunged backwards. shut the car off and walked home. luckily i didn't live far from where this happened. called the dealership and they came up and immediately said it was a problem with the throttle body and turning the car off would reset it so it's drivable for a week or so. had them replace the part so this wouldn't happen on an interstate or out of town! sounds like a very dangerous problem! also found out that our car was just past the warranty for this problem and even though there have been many documented cases of this happening there has not been a recall for the defective part. ford, in fact, couldn't keep up with demand for replacing this part earlier this year. sound like a problem that needs to be addressed, big red flag!! very disappointed in ford for overlooking this dangerous situation. *tr

I was driving in the left lane of the highway at approximately 60 mph, when suddenly and unexpectedly my vehicle lost power. fortunately i was able to pull over to the shoulder of the road without being involved in an accident. when i shut off and restarted the vehicle i was able to drive it to the dealer to be repaired. it was the throttle body assembly, a $400 repair that is no longer under warranty. their should be a recall for such a dangerous problem so that no one gets hurt or killed.... *tr

Vehicle stalled twice in a matter of 5 miles, it was towed to the ford dealership and they replaced the throttle body. since my escape is still under an extended warranty, i was charged $100 for this repair. *tr

While driving freeway speeds, i lost power. wrench light came on, engine remained running and i limped to the side of the freeway. when re-starting car, problem disappeared. took car to private mechanic ([xxx]) and he could not find a problem in the computer history. he suspected throttle linkage. car drove fine until oct 25, 2013 when it recurred on the freeway. while coasting in the hov lane, we put vehicle in "neutral" and tried to restart, problem did not resolve. only after coasting to a stop and putting the vehicle in "park" and restarting would the problem re-set. very hazardous losing power at freeway speeds and trying to limp to the side. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

While driving at 55 mph, car went into limp home mode, greatly reducing speed on rural highway. code was for throttle actuator stuck closed. dealer cleaned throttle plates only, and returned car. next day, the same thing occurred. this time dealer replaced throttle body. this is a dangerouls situation for which i have noticed there have been complaints and an investigation. a safety recall should be ordered. a side effect in limp mode was the engine ran rough with decreased gas mileage while car was driven a few miles to dealer in limp mode. *tr

I was traveling @ about 40 mph when it sounded & felt like the engine quit. there was a wide shoulder so, i pulled to the side of the road. the engine was still running but running poorly and wouldn't rev up over about 1000 rpm. the check engine light came on along with an orange "wrench" light. i switched the engine off, restarted it, and it ran fine for about 1/2 mile. then, the same thing happened again, and again, and again. in the next 2 miles the same thing had happened 3 more times. after almost getting rear-ended by a ram truck the last time it quit, i pulled into a parking lot and called my mechanic who came and towed it to his garage. almost $400 later, my mechanic had replaced the electronic throttle assembly. he told me the ford dealer parts person said he knew the part number by heart because they had replaced so many of these parts. *tr

My vehicle which is a 2010 ford escape has 2 major safety issues. this is now the third issue with my 2010 ford escape where the rear window shatters whileclosing the gate. this is a known issue with ford and they will not fix. glass shatters into thousands of pieces and projects 10-15 feet in any given direction. yet, ford will do nothing to fix. this is very unsafe where i have had glass shot at my face and i also have a dog that is often put in the back of the vehicle. the only way ford will do something is if i pay. i also wonder how many people have not filed complaints thinking this is a fluke accident and may have gone through insurance. i know it is no fluke since this is the third time this has happened and talking with ford they acknowledge the issue. there should be a recall on this vehicle. i have filed two other complaints with the nhtsa. the second is with the throttle body. the car will loose all power at varying speeds. i have lost power on the highway and the car almost stalls. the technical (not a ford one) that i brought this to said it was a common issue but ford was doing nothing about this. i have filed complaints with the nhtsa and there are many other complaints but there is nothing being done about these issues. ford refuses to fix them. *js

2010 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to vehicle decelerates without warning. *smd the consumer stated the deceleration, happened at different speeds. there was no jerking of the vehicle, no warning light illuminated. it just lost speed quickly. the only option the consumer had was to drive the vehicle from the passing lane to the shoulder, crossing several lanes of traffic, turn it off and re-start it. the first time it happened it ran fine afterwards for weeks. the second time it happened, the same thing, but the third time it happened the vehicle decelerated four times within 15 minutes.

On approximately october 1, 2013, i began to experience stalling in my 2010 ford escape. as this happened, a wrench light came on, and the engine died. i turned it off, and it restarted and was fine for a period of time. this was repeated on several occasions. i tried to have the car repaired at the local dealership, but they were booked full for the past week, so i made an appointment for today (october 8, 2013). when i explained the problem to the dealership representative, he told me that it would probably happen again. it happened on my way home that day (last week) and also on the way in to the dealership for repairs this morning. after several hours, they called and said that my car was repaired. the billing says that their "diagnosis verified my concern, and they checked "oasis. ssm32332. they performed etb and check failed. they found fault and replaced electronic throttle body. retest passed." i was told that my extended warranty covered the repairs, but i was charged the $100 deductible. when i tried to check what a throttle body was, i came upon this site, which indicates this has been an ongoing problem with these vehicles, so i wonder if i should have been charged or if this should have been a recall issue. i did not drive my car for a week because i was afraid of having an accident due to the stalling situations. *tr

While driving at approximately 30 mph, vehicle jerked (as though the transmission slipped real hard) and then lost power. i managed to coast for about 25 yards to get off the main road. a "yellow wrench" and the check engine light appeared on the console. shut engine off, waited a minute and restarted. proceeded on road for approximately 1 1/2 miles reaching speed of approximately 55 mph. vehicle jerked again and no power. once again, i managed to coast about 50 feet to get off of the main road. same lights appeared on the console. shut off engine. restarted. drove 2 miles back to house, the vehicle had minimal power and was sputtering the whole way. the next morning, tried to take vehicle to dealership. started vehicle, drove across the street, again no power. called dealership, they arranged to have it towed to a neighboring dealership because they would not be able to get to even look at it for about two weeks. error message on vehicle according to dealership was p2112. unable to repair at this time due back order of part. had there been anyone behind me on the first two occasions or someone coming in the opposite direction while trying to cross road, surely i would have been hit. fortunately, i was not on the interstate when this occurred or the potential for harm would have been high! this is poses an unsafe situation!!! i purchased this certified vehicle only four months ago, with 50,271 miles on it. i am not certain if i will feel confident driving this vehicle again. the dealership wants to reassure that the replacement part will fix the situation, but i have my doubts for a long term resolution. *tr

Defective ford throttle body diagnosed from canby oregon ford. mechanic said this is very common. i almost got in a wreck, as i lost acceleration at a very bad time, while crossing an intersection in oregon city, oregon. i could not get off the road. no one hit me, however. it was just scary. the engine was still running, but i had no acceleration. i turned off the engine and was able to go another 10 feet, and it lost acceleration again. i called towing and had it towed to canby ford. *js

I was doing a left u turn at an intersection when the car went into a stumble mode, where the speed dropped to 5 mph and the accelerator had no effect on the speed. i drove home at 5 mph and parked. the car started and drove normal the next day but went into stumble mode when i did a left turn. dealer says it is the throttle body valve, based on error codes. a local mechanic says he has replaced a lot of the throttle bodies valves. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact that while driving 10 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 136,000.

I was stopped at a stop sign and when i accelerated the car completely shut down and the gas was not working. the little wrench on the dash came on and i was able to coast to the side of the road. after looking it up in the manual it said throttle problem. i shut the car off and restarted it and it worked fine although we where just waiting for it to break again. 2 days later driving home from work up a hill it happened again only this time it started bucking a bit and shooting forward in small bursts until i brake and shut the car off. again i started the car and made it home. i have a service appointment scheduled but after reading about this problem online i cannot believe i am going to have to pay for what appears to be a common problem and a major safety concern. i am just glad i drive back roads and 4 miles to work. *tr

Vehicle stalled while driving on the freeway at approximately 55 mph. initially the check engine light came on, followed by the "yellow wrench" light, at which point the vehicle accelerator no longer affected the rpms and no propulsion was possible. vehicle was turned off by driver, and later restarted and functioned normally, i proceeded to drive it to a dealership, it stalled again enroute to the dealership, the same process of turning the car off, and then on again to continue was administered and the vehicle made it to the dealership. as reported by ourismann ford dealership, the vehicle throttle box failed and needs to be replaced. it was confirmed this had nothing to do with the driver, operation or maintenance of the vehicle, it is a design/manufacturing defect. this is not covered by the powertrain warranty, unfortunately, this part was only covered by the bumper to bumper warranty which ran out on my 3 year old car which was purchased as a certified pre-owned ford less than 2 years ago. this is a serious safety issue as the driver loses all control of acceleration unexpectedly, i was lucky i was not rear-ended on the freeway. *js

My daughter was driving on the interstate coming to the off ramp on her way to work, when the vehicle acted like it had run out of gas, but when she tried to give the car gas and accelerate, the gas pedal did not respond to acceleration. it started jerking and shaking and then the wrench icon illuminated. she maneuvered it to the side of the road, put it in park and restarted it. she drove slowly (25-35 mph) to her destination less than 2 miles away, and parked the vehicle. we see this as a very serious and life threatening problem with this vehicle. we have called our local dealership, and have been told that there is a problem with this vehicle, and that many complaints have been issued against this malfunction with the throttle body. we were also told that this will cost us an out of pocket expense of approx. $400.00- $450.00, since our warranty ran out at 36,000 miles. we hope that the ford corp. will issue a recall on this vehicle asap, since ford is known for a quality vehicle, and we have only owned fords for over 40 yrs. *js

While driving, vehicle just loses all power to an idle of 1000 rpm with no gas pedal response. once you pull over turn vehicle off then start it back up it seems to reset itself for awhile. it has happened a few more times and is currently at a ford dealership where they have diagnosed the problem as a faulty throttle body and says it is not covered by warranty or recall. *tr

I was leaving a shopping center, pulled up to a light and made a left turn on to a major highway. as soon as i accelerated the car was missing out and would not accelerate. i pulled off and shut the car off. i restarted and the car did the same thing. all the while there was a wrench light lit on the dash under the left side of the tach. i let the car sit for a while then restarted and it seemed ok but i was afraid to get back on the busy highway. this was the first t ime this had occured. i had the vehicle towed to the ford dealer. they put it on the diagnostic computer and the problem was the electronic throttle body. i had it replaced and so far all is ok (9-26-13). the car was out of warranty so i had to cover the cost. i went online to see if this is a common problem and discovered that it was. *js

The throttle body went dead while driving. the car sputtered and shook until it went dead. happened three times on the way to the repair shop. had to get a throttle body directly from ford where they informed us this has happened a lot and they have them in stock just for this reason. also the horns are all dead. replaced both horns and it still didn't work. the repair shop said it may be a module, or an electrical problem that could get worse and spread throughout other systems. *ln updated 1/6/2013 *js

On 9/20/13 @app 16:00 , i was on i81 / ny 17 in friday traffic . with no warning other then the warning light ( wrench light ) on the dash, my 2010 ford escape stop running . no throttle response , no power , no nothing . being able to coast to the shoulder , i was able to restart the engine and continue .when this happened i was app. 2 - miles from my exit and home . the vehicle quit 3 times before i was able to get it there. spoke with ford dealer , and had it repaired on 9/23/13. :fault electronic throttle body control . my concern is the way it happened with no warning . minutes before it happened i was in a major construction detour ( i 81 /nys 17 , 5 year bridge replacement ) . if this had happened moments earlier , i not sure what would have happened . i feel this needs to be review ,understanding this is not the first ford vehicles this has happened to. *js

Sitting at a traffic light, when it turned green attempted to accelerate, throttle became unresponsive immediately and the powertrain system fault light came on. after turning off the ignition the car started back up with out incident and continued the drive that day. about 1 week later, had the same thing happen twice in one day and then four times the next. of the seven total incidents, 3 of which happened in major intersections blocking flow of traffic and turned me into a safety hazard. *tr

Traveling on a major highway in the middle lane at 8:30 pm the truck started to hesitate and act like it wasn't running right. then i lost total control of the accelerator but the car was still running. i had all i could do to try to coast over to the shoulder of the road to try and figure out what was wrong. noticing that the accelerator did not engage at all, i turned off the truck and was going to call for a tow truck. that's when i decided to try and start it to see if i could get home on my own. once i started the truck, it was like nothing happened and i continued home making it without a problem. since then this has happened 3 other times, always on the highway, and the last 2 times it happened it, once the truck started back up and i drove off, i only got @ 3 miles down the same highway and it happened again, so i just repeated the procedure and hasn't happened since. i have gone ahead and purchased the new throttle body and am having my mechanic install it this week. i will be driving @ 60 miles one way, 120 miles total, a day for work starting this week and i can't afford to get stranded that far from home and loose time from work or not be able to get home. i've been told that at one point and time that the truck won't just start back up every time, so i'll be getting it fixed. very disappointed that the truck that i purchased in april and only has @ 44000 miles on it would have such a major problem with such an important component. i've been told that they can't keep them on the shelves because there is such a huge problem overall. this can be very dangerous to someone who wouldn't know what to do in a crisis situation. on the box for the part it says ford genuine parts, made in mexico. nice!! maybe you want to rethink where you locate your parts factories. you know the old saying " nothing good is cheap and nothing cheap is good". *tr

I recently purchased a 2010 ford escape xlt. about 5 days after the purchase, my wife and i came to a stop sign. we started to make a left turn and the car stalled, sputtered, and surged around 600 rpm. a car was coming towards us and almost t-boned our vehicle because we could not accelerate. the wrench light indicating that there was a problem with the throttle body came on. we had to get the vehicle off the road and shut it off. after cranking the escape again the code cleared and the vehicle drove fine for a little while until this occurred again. i have since cleaned the throttle body but this has not fixed the problem. the escape has stalled several times since then including while merging onto the interstate at around 50 mph. it just shuts down to about 15 mph out of no where, the throttle body light comes on and it will not accelerate. i bought this vehicle for my wife, but cannot let her drive it for fear of her getting in a serious accident. this is very dangerous and ford should have a recall on the defective throttle body. *js

My daughter was driving to school and she informed me that she lost all acceleration and the vehicle began to jerk forward. this happened 3 times in four days. the engine light and a "wrench" light came on. i took the vehicle to a local ford dealer approximately 20 miles away. the vehicle lost acceleration 10 times during the trip. the gas pedal would not work and the engine would lower to idle and begin to jerk, as if it were going to stall. i had to shut the engine off and wait a few minutes before cranking again. i would make it 100 yards to 3 miles between each incident. the ford dealer stated that the throttle body needs replacing. it is being replaced this week. luckily i had purchased an extended warranty that covers this repair or it would be over $400.00. *tr

was driving down the road a wrench light came on my dashboard and noticed i was not able to accelerate but was stalling barely able to make it to the shoulder almost stalling in an intersection.i am female was alone and it was evening in a rural area.i quickly shut off vehicle lights etc for maybe 1 minute.restarted the vehicle and was able to leave again only to stall again in the middle of the road 2 miles further.,shut off vehicle again and waited approx 1 min started up again and drove another 500 feet to stall again.at this point i was afraid and decided to knock at someones home as it was dark and there were very few homes on this street.this person happened to have a diagnostic tool and the code 4read out p2111 and said the throttle actuator sensor control staying stuck open and there was also another code but i cannot remember, he said there could be another problem causing this problem.whatever the problem i have factory coverage until oct 14/2014 and am told this is not covered under the powertrain warranty, which is totally crazy.this is a dangerous issue which needs to be addressed immediately.i have an appt with ford tuesday sept 24 which i have to pay for,am hoping this will be a recall as there are several reports online with people having the same problems. not only do i have this problem but the vehicle is full of rust spots which should be covered .i have had several fords in my lifetime and this one is a piece of crap.

I was traveling in va on 64e with posted speed limit of 70 mph in the left lane on 9/18/2013 at appx 8:30 pm (dark outside) when my car lost acceleration and slowed down to a crawl, jerking and sputter with no pre-warning that something was wrong. found out later car was in limp home mode. a tool icon was lit on the dashboard when it came to almost a stop from driving 70 mph. the car behind me had to swerve into the right lane to keep from hitting me. i managed to pull over to the left shoulder and put emergency flashers on. after i calmed down, while on cell phone with husband, he told me to cut car off and then restart. tool icon was eliminated when restarted car. i waited for clear break in traffic and drove to the next exit to get off of the interstate highway. drove another route home with low speed limit in case scenario happened again. had to replace the throttle body and part at a cost of $181.98 (part cost only).had a very hard time finding a part in stock and most dealerships had part on back order and the part was only available through a dealership. lucked out after many hours of trying to find the part in stock. my opinion is that this type of incident should be considered a prioritized safety concern as there is no warning built into the auto check/warning system and was a very dangerous incident. *js

Driving my vehicle home for lunch my vehicle started sputtering and my cruise control kicked off. vehicle rpm's dropped and accelerator pedal quit working. so i pulled over. i used my dtc device to see what code is popping up and it was p2111. i put car in park, shut it off, waited 30 seconds and started it back up and drove home. now i'm here typing this up.

Tonight i was driving home doing about 55mph when my vehicle suddenly shuddered and lost all power. luckily i was able to coast it to where it was mostly off of the road. it did not die but continued to shake while in high idle. the power steering was not working properly and no engine lights came on. pushing the gas pedal produced zero results. i shut it down and pondered whether to try and start it back up or just call a tow truck. being out in the country i decided to take a chance. it started up and ran fine...for less than two miles...when it repeated the same scenario only in a much more dramatic loss of power shudder and real rough idle. wrench light came on. i took a picture of the display panels. didn't notice the loss of power steering that time and the engine did not die. called the dealership... no tow truck available. took my chances again and drove it to the dealership since it was only a few miles further then going home. didn't have any problem during that drive but detected an engine whine sound that i had never noticed before. vehicle has 53,393 miles on it. engine was pulled at 8k for oil leaks. have had numerous incidents of shifting clunking sound at take off over the life of it. have had brakes fail in reverse. always pump them before backing out of my garage to make sure they're working ok that day. all work, right down to tire rotations have been done only at the dealership i purchased this brand new at. luckily i purchased an extended warranty. guess i'll learn tomorrow what's up with it this time. sad to have a $28,000 vehicle that i've never really trusted since its early failure. just thankful i wasn't still on the interstate moving along in 70+ mph rush hour traffic. i will never trust this vehicle again after experiencing this. *tr

Traveling south on 95 just south of fredericksburg, va in a 70 mph zone in heavy traffic the vehicle suddenly lost all power. was able to pull off on the left shoulder. after a few minutes restarted the car and was able to complete the trip. the same condition appeared again on 9/24 in a parking lot. took the car to a local ford dealer and was told the throttle body had to replaced at a cost of $450. *js

When attempting to accelerate from a stop the throttle did nothing. it barely moved. pulled off to side of road and restarted. after a bit it started up and drove fine for another 5 miles but then it happened again. pulled off road, restarted and returned home as i was too afraid to continue driving it. taking it to mechanic today to have it diagnosed. during the drive home the transmission was shifting early and otherwise acting slightly strange. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle decelerated as the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 56,400.

Was traveling through an intersection and the escape power quit even though the engine was running. got it pulled into a parking lot where then i looked up to see what the wrench light meant which was powertrain issue, took it home added transmission fluid thinking that might have been the problem since it was a little low. had no issues until 9/19/2013 when traveling about 40mph and the same thing happened again. my escape of course is out of warranty and has been sitting at the butler county for now for 10 days waiting for this throttle body to come in since it is on back order (and ford wont do a recall when this is happening to so many vehicles they cant get the part) i have been without a vehicle since (borrowing the parents to get to and from work) and the part is still not in and i keep hearing that it is on its way. never had an issue with the last 6 ford products i have owned but this is pathetic that nothing is being done before someone gets hurt. *tr

I was at intersection trying to cross 4 lanes car lost power barely got acrosss lanes safely. *tr

On sept 12, 2013 i was driving on i-95 going approximately 75mph when out of nowhere the vehicle felt like it sputtered and then just quit running or stalled out. to my surprise (and thank god) the steering did not lock up when the engine stalled up. i was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road without getting killed. i turned the engine off and waited 5 minutes and then was able to start driving again. then it stalled out again. i drove it like this for the next 10 miles to get home. i stopped at a discount auto parts store and they put a computer on it. he said it was reading the throttle body was stuck open. after the store clerk and i googled this code the most we could find for a solution was to clean the throttle body. so he brought me the right tb cleaner to buy. i went home and took the tb apart (it was gunked up pretty good), cleaned it to a shiny, brand new looking throttle body and replaced it at which time i also took this opportunity to perform an oil change, top off my fluids, replace the air filter with a new one and put coolant in my radiator. i reconnected the battery cables, started the car and went for a ride. i was amazed. it purred like a kitten. no dash "check engine light" on! i thought i had fixed my problem. not so. here i am now, the 24th of sept and guess what!! yep had to call in to work because my car only makes it 10 ft down the road and stalls out. no warning. i looked in at the throttle body and its still sparking clean, no gunk. what's going on. this am when it happened i had my 3 year old and 4 year old in the car with me and we [xxxx] near got killed from the semi truck behind us. i drove my children to school with the car like this and now am trying to find a new throttle body to put in. i will keep the old one in my possession in case this petition actually gets the government moving and its needed for inspection. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

While attempting to accelerate after a stop the vehicle lost all power began to shake and jerk then went into limp mode. the car drove fine after pulling off to the side of the road and restarting only to do the same thing a few minutes later. *tr

While driving on far left lane of freeway at 70mph, heard/felt clunk (which felt like the transmission slipping but found out after the repair it wasn't trans) pushed gas pedal no acceleration, luckily no one was coming behind me and i was on a slight downhill so i was able to move to the shoulder, put it in park and tried to push gas pedal again still no acceleration, the car was running in idle and stayed that way until tow truck driver came, shut car off towed to ford dealership. on work order it says- throttle body and motor asy, inspect and verify, lost power while driving, hook up ids selftest pcm p2111, perform throttle body test, failed, throttle body fault, replace throttle body, reset kam, retest operation ok. had to pay lots of my money out of my pocket and pay for a rental car and gas. researched internet to find this is happening to many people and ford won't do a recall. they should!!! i have always been a loyal ford customer since my dad worked there many years. i have always driven a ford and would like to continue on but may have to rethink this. i wonder how many others there really are that this has happened to. it could have caused an accident if people would have been on the freeway behind me which i am lucky it didn't. please look into this with ford and get a resolution of a recall so i can be reimbursed and get the repairs done so this doesn't continue to happen to others! thank you. *tr
