I was driving down 128 (a major highway) , when my car 'appeared' to downshift all on it's own. the 'wrench' appeared on the dashboard and i managed to coast into a rest area before the car eventually stalled. i was able to restart the vehicle and at first it seemed like everything was fine again. i attempted to drive it home, but 4-5 minutes in the same thing happened. it hesitated, light came one, car stalled, i dangerously coasted into the breakdown lane. this happened 3 times before i then decided to get it towed since it was stalling in dangerous places and i didn't think i would make it home. i had it towed to a mechanic that night. next day i was told it's the etb, but it's not covered. i was also told that this part is not in stock since there are so many being sold. this appears to be a good candidate for a recall, since it sounds like something common and can result in serious injury or worse. this is my 5th ford, i've had the explorer, mustang, ford 250, ford 150 and now the escape. as a loyal consumer i would expect the manufacturer to do the proper thing and make this more than tsb since it's a definite danger. i'm just happy my kids were not in the car at the time. *tr

As i was slowing down to turn, the entire system died and there was no power. luckily, i was able to pull over and the vehicle started up again. this happened four times in the past year: may 2012, sept. 2013, march 2013, and again on may 15 2013. each time i took it to the dealership and was told there was no problem found. after doing some research on line,i discovered many people have experienced the same problem. very dangerous and am afraid to drive it. read that replacing the throttle might help. is there a recall or what should i do? *tr

My 2010 ford escape is making a noise that started about 2 months ago. the noise sounds like tools were being stored in the back and when i stopped, turned, or even began to take off again i would hear this rattling sound. i had to pay a diagnostic fee of 150 something dollars. test-drove vehicle with mechanic but it was very hard to duplicate. they had vehicle 3 separate times vehicle ended up staying by the 3rd time with them from a thursday till a tuesday i was told it was rust on the sub frame shocked that ford had a service bulletin for and that they had to remove some type of bolts. sound would be gone for a few days but maybe shake back loose. sound now coming from the front. i called back to the 1st dealership and was told by the service manager basically don't bring it back there it is a waste of their time because they can't find anything wrong with the vehicle he asked me where i purchased it and was told to take back to original dealership. i must say early on into the situation i wrote to ford because i was very disgusted that i had to pay a diagnostic fee for something that was a known problem to ford all this time and wanted my fee back. they told me since it was not fixed and the 1st dealership could not really figure out what is wrong take it back to the original dealership of purchase. i found out that again i have to pay another diagnostic fee and i pray that they find or hear something due to the noise is not heard all the time. again, i am out of more money. i decided not to waste anymore time paying diagnostic fees and maybe hope the vehicle falls apart i feel like i am up against a wall i know this is my last time dealing with ford time to move on especially with this 36,000 mile warranty crap. the noise is definitely there as others can hear it. i feel stuck i just pray that nothing happens to me when driving this junk! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle stalled and overheated. the vehicle was later towed to the dealer where they advised that the radiator seal was fractured, causing a leak. in addition, they advised that the rear axle seal needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired for the radiator and rear axle seals. the manufacturer was contacted and provided 100 percent coverage of the repair. also, the contact stated that the vehicle would shift in and out of gear without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised that the solenoid and another unknown component needed replacing. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000. the current mileage was approximately 67,000. the vin was unavailable.

I took my 2010 ford escape 4 cylinder automatic transmission 2wd vehicle in due to the nhtsa recall notice for the transmission. even before i got the recall notice i noticed that 1 time out of 10 when i engaged my car from park to drive that the car would shake violently ( like, someone just hit my car with their car ). in addition, often, i would notice that the vehicle would not switch gears in a clean and proper fashion. so, when i got the recall notice, i thought this will be fixed. after getting the car back from the ford dealership and them saying nothing was wrong with the vehicle and the my car was not effected by the recall, i still had these same issues all the while. well, on may 8, i was driving home and the "wrench" light (powertrain fault indicated/detected ! ) came on the display/instrument panel. in addition, i noticed that the transmission was also not running that well. i took it into the dealership and dropped it off right away that night. it has been 5 days and the work is still not done. my service advisor tells me that it is the valve body that needs to be replaced. he said perhaps on wednesday it will be done. *js

I was going approx. 30 - 35 mph and my car started jerking and sputtering as if it were out of gas then just died in the middle of an intersection. my husband had to push me across three lanes of traffic to a station where we bought gas. the car started right up so we went continued on with our business. we got on the interstate and was going about 65 mph and the same thing happened. i got it on the shoulder and it died again so we called the extended warranty co. (which charged me an additional $200 deductible on top of the cost of the warranty) and they had it towed to the nearest ford dealership which was on the other side of the interstate. my sister has the same car (only a year newer) and the exact same thing happened to her while she was on vacation in indiana. in researching the incident we discovered this is a very common problem in the escape. the mechanic at the ford dealership where she had her car towed to made the statement that he has been waiting for two years for a recall on this part. if this is a common issue then why hasn't ford issued a recall (recall even a ford mechanic is waiting for)? in researching we also discovered another issued with the back window exploding. i do not fee safe drivng my escape (which i absolutely love). i am ready to trade it in <sigh>. oh, and the mechanic also said the part he replaced was the exact same part as the one that was originally in the car. when asked what is to keep this from happening again and he said "nothing because it is the same part". so, they took a defaulted part out and replaced it with another defaulted part. i would just like to know why a recall hasn't been issued on this part. thanks for your time. *tt

I was driving on the highway and my escape lost power or ability to accelerate forward. the open wrench tool lite up on the dash board. my escape slowed down significantly. the vehicle continued to run and would drive very slowly but when i would press on the gas, it would not go any faster. once the vehicle was turned off and then back on, it appeared to work just fine. about a week later, the exact thing happened again when traveling at approximately 50mph. my car is now at a ford dealership, but they say it is not happening when they drive it and unless it happens with them, there is nothing they can do about the situation. *tr

As i was driving the car the throttle suddenly would not let me 'go' any further and the car slowed to a stop in the middle of the road. when stopped, it shuddered in place until i turned the car off. this happened another time just after a busy intersection, but ford apparently does not deem this a safety concern, even though this is a family vehicle and the consequences for problems like this could be terrible. the vehicle has been in the shop 5 times in the last year for the above problem twice, another couple of times for leaking transmission fluid (which i am also led to believe could cause the car to stop in traffic if the leak remains undetected one of these times), and another for hard shifts both accelerating and decelerating. all of these problems are ones that ford seems unable to fix and doesn't seem to care happened. i keep waiting for a recall to be issued for at least some of these problems, since in several situations i do feel very strongly this was a safety issue and do not appreciate my children having to ride in an unreliable car. i also do not have the money to throw at a 2010 car every couple of months. i would appreciate your looking into these problems. thanks! *tr

After waiting for traffic signal, i began my turn left. just past the intersection, i lost power with sort of a chugging motion in the vehicle. i was able to get off the road. the indicator on the instrument panel was of a small wrench, indicating throttle control/powertrain in the manual. i called the dealer and was able to start the car and drive in. the charge for installing ds7z 9e926 d (throttle body and motor as) was $400.46 plus tax. with less than 38000 miles on this vehicle, i did not expect to have this kind of repair. *tr

After stopping at a light on a highway i proceeded to turn left and pressed the accelerator and the engine cut out. i had to coast across the highway. *tr

2010 ford escape. acceleration from a stop and sluggish acceleration when entering the expressways was intermittent for about 18 months at approximately 58k miles. car stalled at a stop light at 68k miles, was able to go after switching ignition off and then back on. acceleration has been quite sluggish. car is at the dealer now and i was just told it is the electronic throttle body. after research online i found that this is happening quite a bit to other ford escape owners-frightening that i let it go on this long. *tr

While driving to the tpa on i-75 approaching the exit for i-4 we slowed for a truck that cut us off. our vehicle shifted down at least two gears which caused the engine to over rev. we tried to speed up, but the engine just reved higher. so we slowed while exiting on to the ramp for i-4. we were able to get over to the right and pull off the ramp road before getting on to i-4. we turned the engine off and sat for a few minutes to compose ourselves. i was hoping that the system would reset itself so we could continue. we started the engine and we continued to the airport without anymore problem. i drove home and for two weeks drove without incident until 8/26/2011. the same thing happened as before. the engine down shifted about 65 mph and the engine began revving. we slowed the vehicle and came to a stop to make a left turn. after excelerating we felt the engine over revving before shifting. the vehicle is unsafe to drive. it is unpredictable as to when a problem will occur. it?s a matter of time before something bad is going to happen. we need this problem fixed with assurance that it is truly fixed or we need restitution from ford for selling us an unsafe vehicle. *tt

2010 ford escape xlt. starting with about 1200 miles the transmission began hard shifts, hesitation between gears, jerking hard into reverse when engaging, high speed shifts jerk into gear sounding like the rear end is falling out. ford dealer first stated it was normal, after several more complaints they decided to rebuild the transmission. it worked smoothly for about 200 miles then started the same things again, it gets more frequent as the miles mount up. my wife is afraid of the vehicle and will not drive or ride in it. when roads are wet the shifts are hard enough to make the wheels spin. last time the dealer adjusted the transmission, it now hesitates when putting into gear. i was turning around on a road that i should have had ample time but when i put the car into reverse it delayed so long to engage that traffic was heading toward me. if the car sits 2-3 days, it gives a long hesitation to go into 2nd and 3rd gear. also, have experienced squealing coming from engine compartment, ford has change the belt several times and the tensioner, it lasts for a few hundred miles and starts again. all items i have been told are normal. i have owned more than 20 cars and do not find hard shifts, hesitations, excessive noise and hard clunks to be normal by any stretch of the imagination. i paid $25,000 for this car, i have driven cars that cost half this price that handled better. i have been a loyal ford owner of f150's, explorers, expeditions and even a couple of old f100's. i had always been very happy with them. the escape was an attempt to downsize for our 2nd vehicle and have something more economical, we liked them when we rented them but this one has been a very big disappointment and time consuming. *tr

Transmission slams into gear feels like someone ran into you. does it a couple time a month but it feels like it's going to break something it causes the car to lurch forward or backwards depending on you putting it in d or r. it also has started slamming into gear while shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle violently jerked while driving at all speeds and while reversing. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on three occasions and they were unable to figure out how to repair the failure. the manufacturer offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 20,000. the vin was unavailable.

The automatic transmission in my 2010 ford escape started "flaring" between 2nd and 3rd gears last september a month after i bought it. "flaring" is a term used by ford to describe when the transmission delays shifting between gears and the engine revs until it finally shifts. the dealer has worked on it several times and the problem continues. this has not really been a safety issue until two weeks ago. it started "flaring" occasionally between 1st and 2nd gears also. this is a concern because i'm not up to speed when this happens between 1st and 2nd. with traffic being heavy at times, i'm concerned that someone could rearend me when this happens. the car is at the dealership now to try to diagnose the problem. the dearer along with the ford representative haven't been able to resolve the problem between 2nd and 3rd gears so i doubt they will resolve this problem either. i'm further concerned that it could start happening with 1st gear and i could start to enter a highway and the car would not accelerate when intended and then suddenly accelerate when it wasn't safe to do so. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled and also experienced sudden acceleration. the contact mentioned that the check engine and the wrench warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was not made aware of failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000 and the current mileage was 42,500. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that she was unable to take the vehicle out of gear. she mentioned that the failure recurred twice before and it was after she started towing the vehicle behind her rv. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. two weeks later, while towing the vehicle the transmission started smoking. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was burned beyond repair and needed to be replace. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 43,000 and current mileage was 44,000. updated 07/20/11*lj the consumer stated the transmission failed twice. the consumer was informed that flat towing caused the transmission failure, even though the owner's manual stated towing was allowed. updated 02/08/12

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while being towed by a recreational vehicle, smoke emitted from the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

My ford escape vehicle has suddenly lost all power multiple times in heavy traffic on 6 and 8 lane highways at various speeds. it loses all rpm's which has caused me to nearly get rear-ended on multiple occasions. no matter how many times i push on the gas pedal, it does nothing but coast & sputter & jerk. i have taken it to my mechanic several times, he has plugged it into the computer, and nothing shows up as being wrong. it is very dangerous, i have almost been rear-ended because of the sudden slowdown, people trying to speed around me, and trying to pull off the road to stop the car. aaa has towed me multiple times. i read up on the issue on the internet, and there is a massive number of ford escape owners who have had the exact problem and ford refuses to recall the vehicle. someone will die if they don't notify all 2010 ford escape owners of this huge safety malfunction and fix it. some said it is a faulty throttle bottle assembly, but that ford simply replaces it with the same faulty assembly and tells them there's no guarantee as to how long the newer faulty one will last. owners have spent a lot of money getting multiple things fixed before someone finally diagnosed and replaced the throttle body assembly. i don't know whether to get it replaced and risk losing power at night on a dangerous road again, or to simply sell it and take my losses. i am disappointed that ford refuses to recall this vehicle. my grandchildren ride in the rear seat in baby seats, and if i get hit from the rear because this car loses power, i will sue ford. that won't bring back my babies, so i hope you can get ford to notify owners and recall this huge safety issue. thank you so much for your help. *tr

While driving on the highway,i noticed the rpm's increasing but the car wouldn't shift into overdrive, instead it downshifted while traveling at freeway speed. on other occasions, the rpm remained high and the car wouldn't shift at all even after putting it in neutral, while traveling at highway speed. at other times, the car would jump into gear when putting it into reverse or drive. *tr

The car engine accelerates on its own, whether or not my foot is on the gas petal. i thought it was transmission trouble, but not sure now after reading article in baton rouge advocate today. brought car into dealership at least 3 times, they cannot find anything. they say bring it in when it happens, but once i was headed to baton rouge and it just started racing, another time to gently, and other times just headed home or shopping. it has happened minimal 25 times. i will start logging the mileage, speed, dates, & times as of today...2/26/13. i realize it is what you are calling a power surge. i cannot wait to get rid of this car. *tr

Driving off road up a steep incline (40-45 degrees), the vehicle came to a halt. there wasn't any power going to the tires even though i had the accelerator pedal to the floor. the engine rpm would only rev up to about 1200 rpm. it felt as if there was a disconnect between the transmission and the engine as there was no power being delivered to the tires. the tires did not loose traction or spin either. what was especially unsafe about this is that it was extremely hazardous backing down the steep hill i had tried to ascend. i was trying to back down slowly by using the brake, but many times the brakes would lock up causing the vehicle to shift and slide sometimes sideways which could have caused the vehicle to roll. i tried to go up the hill again to no avail. this vehicle is used by the us forest service in which many times the vehicle is required to go of road on forest service roads. there is a section in the owner's manual about off road driving, but it makes no mention that the vehicle should not be driven up steep inclines.

Vehicle experiences total loss of power in a random pattern, 2-5 times a week under various conditions including highway speeds, climbing slight inclines, over bumps..etc. recover can take a minute to hours. basically you can be on the freeway and loose engine power for forward motion, which is dangerous. all ford recommended software and throttle body changes have been instituted. dealers don't seem to be capable or interested to resolve issue

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the gears would shift hard and long. the failure occurred intermittently. when the gear was shifted into reverse and then back to drive, the vehicle would shake violently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who rebuilt the transmission. after the rebuilding of the transmission, the gear continued to shift hard and long. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer on numerous occasions and while performing a diagnostic test, they advised that there were no failure codes generated and they could not determine the cause of the failure. the vehicle continued to exhibit problems with the gears shifting correctly. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the manufacturer was notified who offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.

The left front axle seal began leaking fluid. *tr

My 2010 ford escape has been hesitate and then lurches since i brought brand new the first year i brought it they had to put a transmission in it for this problem and still the problem has continue i has almost been in several accident because i think this is a safety concern please let me know what step should i take to get this problem solve thank you u can contact me at[xxx] cell home [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Transmission will totally disengage when needed the most, such as entering the interstate. very scary situation. dealer says needs a complete overhaul. only 18,000 miles. *tr

I purchased a 2010 ford escape limited on 29 july 2010. on 20 sep 2010 i noticed as i placed the vehicle in drive it jerked violently and sounded like the bottom fell out of the car. when i came to a red light it shifted hard down to first gear. i had my dad check it out and it did the same thing with him. he took it to the dealer on 21 sep 2010 and they said there was a problem, it was not suppose to do that. they checked with ford and there was some adjustments they had to do to the computer. this did not fix problem and they kept the vehicle. they now have to take out the transmission and check solenoids before ford will send a new transmission. this could become a safety issue, if the operator has to accelerate and the vehicle will not respond. the vehicle has 5000 miles on it. *tr

The vehicle jerk and lunges at different speeds. shifts hard during highway driving and lunges and jerks very violently during take-off at random times. this vehicles has been taken back to the ford dealership for repair on four different occasions with no success for repair. even more aggravating is that when taken to the dealership for repair they expect you to replace the gas in the loaner which is not even close to as nice of a car that you are having repaired yet they do not replace your gas out of your car. very frustrating. the mechanics act like they have no idea what is wrong with the vehicle and have tried various things to fix it to no avail. sometimes the vehicle jerks so hard it gives you whiplash. *tr

1st got escape had to have some reprogramming affecting the transmission. 2nd had to have the transmission repair. 3rd my dash lights blink from bright to dim during the daytime/ 4th had to have the ignition replace - when i put my key in--would not turn-. 5th even after having the transmission repair-still changes hard. 6th sometimes when parked on and incline-place in drive-will make a "pop" noise. still do not feel like my car is working/running at a 100%. i did take out another wrty--just incase--however it is almost up. my husband & i have drove fords for the past 35 years-am very disappointed with my escape. 7th use stability control once---is it suppose to sound like the car is breaking into? *tr

My 2010 ford escape has slammed violently into gear while being driven a total of 5 times. the first time this happened, my wife was driving and she thought someone had hit her from behind and she actually hurt her neck because the jerking was so violent. three of the 4 other times that this has happened have not been as violent but it just happened again about 2 weeks ago (at about 11,000) miles and it was very violent (and my wife got 'jerked' again). *tr

I have a 2010 ford escape that was recalled for transmission problems, i brought the vehicle in and it was supposedly fixed. i took the vehicle on a trip this weekend, the transmission seized up and almost caused a tremendous rear end accident. i left the car 100 mile from home because now ford has to do the work again. i am concerned that the vehicle has other problems that they are not fixing with the transmission. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that there was a popping sound in the transmission whenever he would shift gears. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised that they were not liable. the failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 117,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that when shifting into drive, the vehicle would jerk abnormally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the sensors and transmission would need reprogramming. the vehicle was repaired but the vehicle would shift extremely hard and would not accelerate after the repairs. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where the dealer reprogrammed the sensors and transmission again, but to no avail. the manufacturer was contacted and stated there was nothing they could do to assist. the failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 35,151.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. while driving approximately 10 mph, the transmission failed to shift into second gear and suddenly, there was hesitation and a violent jerking motion. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v222000 (power train: automatic transmission) yet, the failure continued. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer twice. the transmission valve body was replaced on one occasion and the burned clutch and transmission drums were replaced at a different time. the vehicle had not been repaired for the most recent transmission failure. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 864.

On march 14, 2010 i purchased a 2010 ford escape from tutle-click ford irvine, ca. within 3 weeks i began to smell oil burning and hard shifting/bucking of the transmission. in early may i received a letter from ford stating a need for a transmission solenoid reprogramming (program number 10b15). when i brought it to ford on june 3, 2010 with a mere 4,369 miles for this service i also informed them of the oil burning odor. they dealt with transmission problem and found an oil leak during the diagnostics. i called ford customer relations and immediately asked for a case to be started on my vehicle (1422071530) the service manager informed me initially the needed to replace a gasket and it would be a couple days. on june 4, they informed me the engine needed to be removed to get to oil leak area and part was to be ordered for the 2010. on june 8, the service manager told me a short block had to be ordered and arrival would be june 9. on june 9 it had not arrived. on june 10, the short block arrived late in the day and the estimated completion was for june 15, 2010. i picked up the car on june 16, 2010 with 4,375 and no further leaks detected. i was told by the service manager that he put more than 10 miles on it to perform a road test and everything was fine. on june 17, i noticed a big puddle of oil/fluid in my parking area. i received a phone call from a friend i visited and she had a puddle of oil on her driveway. i spoke with the regional customer relations contact on june 17, and he informed me that he would have a factory technician come out to the dealership on wednesday june 23, 2010. i informed him i would be taking back to the dealer asap. on june 18, i dropped off the car and told them my assessment of not only the leak but the transmission was chugging/skipping. i received a phone call at 6pm on friday to inform me that was transmission fluid leaking an axle seal needs to be replaced. i have lost complete faith in this shoddy and incompetent service. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shift into gear. once the contact was able to get the vehicle into gear, it then shifted into neutral violently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times who reflashed the controller and replaced the transmission valve body in order to fix the problem. the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vin was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 12,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated when driving at various speeds, the transmission would slip and sporadically jerk. the contact received notice of nhtsa campaign id number: 10v222000 (power train: automatic transmission) and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. the dealer repaired the failure twice however; it did not remedy the failure. in addition, there was a winding noise coming from the vehicle and water was also leaking in the rear of the vehicle. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 1,000 and the current mileage was approximately 7,000. updated 10/26/10. *lj the consumer stated the gas pedal would stick and then the vehicle would lurch. there was a rattle and noise coming from under the vehicle. updated 10/26/10

I have had numerous issues with my 2009 ford escape 6 speed transmission. the transmission was replaced after 17000 k with total internal failure. with both the new and old transmissions i have had experienced the following safety issue on numerous occasions. failure to downshift coming to a stop, which has resulted in the car lingering in the middle of intersections without the ability to accelerate. this has either resulted in a 3 second pause while the transmission decides to downshift, or on about 5 occasions the car has right out stalled. it is a very scary situation sitting in the middle of an intersection with cars bearing down on you without the ability to accelerate to safety. the car has been in the shop numerous times and the transmission technician has updated the transmission control software (via technical bulletin) 3 times, which has not helped at all. the technician has mentioned that there are a steady stream of 2009 ford escape owners in the shop with similar problems, but there clearly is no real solution to the problem. this is a brand new transmission that has been rushed into the escape to improve fuel economy without proper testing. it is clear to me that the ford engineers have not figured out how to electronically control this transmission. i am an engineer myself and understand that components sometimes fail or have weaknesses, but to have failure like this in normal driving circumstances constitutes a serious safety issue in my opinion. i just hope no one gets seriously hurt before ford fixes this properly. *tr

I purchased a 2010 ford escape 1/2/10. a couple of weeks after the purchase i went to back up and then go forward. in doing so, when i put the car into gear to go forward there was a jerking motion as well as a loud clunking noise under the car. since that time, i have on numerous occasions experience the same thing. as the car switches gears it will jerk with the same noise. it feels as if the whole bottom of the car is coming apart and about to fall off. i have experienced this at different speeds and it does not happen all the time, but when it does you definitely know it. in the last three days it has happened twice. i try to notice the rpm's to see if it is in the midst of changing gears or not and it is not always when it is due to change gears. i took it to the ford dealer where i purchased the vehicle and they took it for a drive and found nothing wrong. they then did a diagnostic and said they found the factory failed to enter all the correct coding for the transmission so they kept the car and updated it. once i received the car back it has continued to do the same thing. i went online and found the 2005-2009 escape owners had the exact problem i am currently experiencing and found the transmissions burned out at approx 20,000 miles. ford is telling me there is nothing wrong with mine as the problem had been fixed. i took it back in friday evening and was told they just received information that some dealers found they have had to take the 2010 models in, tear out the transmissions and put them together starting from scratch to stop the problem. i was told they would look into it and get back to me. i don't want to wait and have my transmission go out before they will finally see there is a problem. *tr
