Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. immediately after starting the vehicle, the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. the technician diagnosed that the top of the fuel tank rotted out and the evap valve was defective. as a result, both needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 115,000.

While driving to work, my car died twice. the first time, while approaching a stop light, the engine cut off. when i came to a stop; i put it in park to try and start it again, and it seemed to struggle when starting as if i were out of gas, but i had just filled up my tank that morning. the light turned green, and there was a stop sign about 500 yards away, and as soon as i was coming to a stop again; the engine dies. this time it took twice as long and several attempts to get it started again. also, when i am sitting idle at a stop light or a stop sign, the rpms will drop very low and start to stall out. i am able to catch it and rev the engine to prevent it from stalling sometimes. *tr

Car is stalling and locking up due to fuel line issue. per ford service dept this is dangerous for two reasons - stalling and potential fire. *tr

Vehicle had exited from freeway and was stopped on an exit ramp stop light. when gas was pushed to move vehicle from stopped position, the engine accelerated but the vehicle would not move forward. initially, the wrench light appeared on dash and then later, this disappeared and the check engine light came on. vehicle was taken to a nearby auto parts facility where a computer code evaluation was completed- this yielded the same code appearing 3 times: a problem involving the throttle actuator control system sensor. the technician stated that when the same problem code appears 3 times during the check, this accurately pin-points the problem. *tr

The first incident occurred approximately 2months ago (april 2014) as i was driving on a state road (new circle rd in lexington ky)at around 60mph during my morning commute around 8am. the vehicle seemingly stalled but all the systems were fine (still had power steering, lights, radio, braking system etc) with the exception of the accelerator which didn't do anything when i put my foot on the gas. i was able to coast over to the side of the road turned the engine off, sat for about 5 mins & was able to continue on the road without further issue (the check engine light didn't even come back on). the most recent date was 06/07/14 with my family in the car as passengers. i was at a stoplight turning left when, as previously, the engine stalled as i was turning. again, all systems registered and were working but when i put my foot on the gas nothing happened. again i was luckily able to coast to the side of the road and turn off the engine. this time after waiting roughly 5 mins and turning the engine back on, nothing happened after i hit the accelerator. i turned the engine back off and waited an additional 5 mins. this time i was able to give the car gas and as my home was nearby was thankfully able to make it to my house. the check engine light however did not go off as it had previously. i took the car to my dealership on 06/09/14 and they confirmed that it was the throttle body. *tr

This is the third incident in two days, i'm driving along when i take my foot of the gas pedal and coast, the engine dies, the dash shows the battery and oil light. you can still steer, but the car slows down drastically with the engine not running, i had someone almost rear end me, because i slowed down so much. all incidents were the same, but the first time it happened it was very scary because you didn't know what was happening and you didn't know what to do. the car will start back up if you park it or put it in neutral, but i was in the middle of an intersection the third time, stopped traffic cars were honking at me. this is a huge safety issue, taking it in tomorrow to get it fixed, should be a recall. *tr

Entering i-85 going west at approx. 60mph. approx 1/4 mile the car lost power as i was entering the freeway. traffic was merging onto the freeway around me and i put on my blinker to get to the side of the freeway to call a tow truck. it was very dangerous. the repair shop told me it was a throttle body issue. *tr

On dec.31 at approximately 2 p.m. i was driving south on citrus ave. i was going 55 mph and my vehicle started losing speed. i moved to the side of the road. i turned off the ignition and when i restarted the car it ran as normal. prior to that, on several occasions upon starting from a stop i had noticed faster acceleration than the amount of pressure i was applying to the gas pedal. *tr

I was driving along a road and suddenly my car jolted and almost all of my dashboard lights lit up. the engine was on, but nothing was happening. i pushed the accelerator down and nothing, still. as i was pulling off to the side of the road, the car died. i waited five minutes and the engine was able to be restarted. but the engine light stayed on. i had to turn the engine on and off multiple times to restart the engine. this had happened a couple of times before, but nothing as severe. *tr

About 3 years ago, we started having problems with the component within in the fuel take that shuts after you put gas in the vehicle. we kept getting an error notice that it was not shutting. we took it in to the ford dealer, where they claimed to have fixed it. about 2 weeks later, we the code came up again. we took it back to the ford dealer and this time, the neck of the fuel tank had to be replaced. this seemed to take care of the issue for some time, but within the last 6 months, we've been getting really bad gas mileage. we maintain our vehicle very well, so this was concerning. we put new tires, did a completed tune-up, etc., but this didn't help. about 4 months ago, our check engine light came on & the code said there was a part that needed replacing; the vent valve. we did that, and then 2 weeks later, the check engine light came on again for the same thing. and then, as we're pumping gas, the gas keep shutting off, as if we are topping it off, when it's actually empty. we were having a hard time just filling up our tank. we finally took the vehicle in to our local repair shop (whom we trust). the vent valve that was replaced was full of fuel. they are having to replace the canister. we are hoping this will fix the problem. if not, they said we'll need to replace the fuel tank, which is currently on a national back order. but i checked my vin# & was told my particular vehicle isn't part of that recall. i love my little escape, but we've had problem after problem with the fuel system for some reason, for the last 4 years. it's very frustrating & ford just shrugs their shoulders at us now. *tr

At night, while stopped on red traffic light waiting for change to green, the vehicle stalls an shut off. did not start right over until a while. all dashboard panel lights were on. after 45 minutes tried to start it and it just move very, very slow and did not accelerate until it died again a 100 feet farther. we call road assistance to take us home in a towing truck. at the other day we call the towing truck again to take the suv to the dealer since it was in warranty, when we start it before leaving it was working fine. the service tech at ford tell us that probably it is the throttle body since other people has been having the same issue. they test it and they say that nothing is wrong... my warranty is about to expire and i think that they are playing us to take the unit home and when it happen again charge us for the cost of the part... $$$$ very expensive!!! this is a hazardous issue since it can happen while driving it can cause an accident or lost of life. *tr

I recently had an incident on 8/28/13 with a fuel vapor leak. it was fixed on 9/6/13. as of 9/17/13 the same issue happened again.. apparently this is a common problem that ford knows about and have not fixed. so now when you have a vapor leak & they replace the vapor system, its replaced with the same model type so it could happen again & again. why they didn't fix the vapor system issue so there would be a newer model is beyond me. my car lasted less than a week and half before it happened again. i drove to work & it was fine. i went to leave work 3 hrs later & the service engine soon light was on. had a shop read the code & it was the same issue - p0456 is the code in case anyone needs to know. *tr

Was traveling through an intersection and the escape power quit even though the engine was running. got it pulled into a parking lot where then i looked up to see what the wrench light meant which was powertrain issue, took it home added transmission fluid thinking that might have been the problem since it was a little low. had no issues until 9/19/2013 when traveling about 40mph and the same thing happened again. my escape of course is out of warranty and has been sitting at the butler county for now for 10 days waiting for this throttle body to come in since it is on back order (and ford wont do a recall when this is happening to so many vehicles they cant get the part) i have been without a vehicle since (borrowing the parents to get to and from work) and the part is still not in and i keep hearing that it is on its way. never had an issue with the last 6 ford products i have owned but this is pathetic that nothing is being done before someone gets hurt. *tr

I was driving vehicle onto entrance ramp of freeway when the power suddenly cut out and the car coasted. the "wrench" light illuminated on the dashboard. i was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road. i called a ford dealer and had the vehicle towed. the throttle body had a fault in the system and was replaced at a cost of nearly $300. *jb

Began at idle at stop light/sign; rpms go up/down then stall. then while driving approx 45 mph, car does a "thud", doesn't stall, but gas peddle no longer works, you can push it to the floor and nothing. i turned on my flashers, coasted off side of road and stopped. shut engine off and restarted it. 2nd time, while going threw a huge, busy intersection at rush hour, car started jerking, gas peddle quit working, almost got rear-ended, whole family was with me; rolled off side of road, turned car off and restarted it. when turning key on it would make the repeated start sound before it actually started. when the "thud" happens the "wrench" light eliminates on my dash, but once i shut off key and restart, the "wrench" light goes away. i took it to the dealership and they told me it was a "canister purge valve" that needed replacing and wanted to charge me $390 to fix. i paid them the $92 diagnostic fee and my husband paid $42 for the part and replaced it himself. only my problem still exists as that wasn't the problem at all. i called ford back today explaining it happened to me again today while turning a corner at 15 mph and they then guessed it was the "throttle body" and i have to take it back in to the dealership tomorrow! my friend with same yr, make and model of escape was on the hwy and it happened last week; she almost got hit by a semi truck!! *ln *tr

Vehicle stalls out while driving and goes into an idle mode. vehicle has to be shut off and then restarted in order to go back into a mode that allows acceleration. *jb

Driving on i80 west, when suddenly i lost power and the car started to decelerate, looked at the instrument panel and saw the "wrench" icon lit. pulled off of the interstate as the car continued to lose speed and limped into a service station parking lot. turned the ignition off and consulted the user manual and found the issue related to the "powertrain/throttle control". turned the ignition back on and all of the warning lights went off after starting the car. headed back to home via side streets and had one more incident after approximately 3 miles. followed the same procedure as before and was able to make it the rest of the way home (6 miles). if this had happened out in the country miles from nowhere i would have been extremely worried. parked car until after the holiday and called the ford dealership to arrange service. took car to ford dealership this morning(9/4) and was told later that the throttle body was bad. new one was back ordered to october 26th. service technician(kyle) told me i couldn't drive the car because it was a safety hazard. part is not covered under extended warrant, so a rental car will not be covered. i can't afford $1800 for a rental, so now what? dealer sympathetic, but unable to help. *jb

Engine failed. car abruptly stopped. wrench light appeared. restarted car and wrench light went out but engine light remained on solid. got going on third try and managed to get home about 8 miles. same scenario continued and my mechanic thoroughly cleaned throttle assembly. problem continues... tried again....this time failed at intersection...got going again but almost had vehicle behind me rear end me....../totally unsafe. my wife drives this vehicle and the ramifications are apparent. had similar problem with my brand new 2008 taurus if i recall correct. ford fixed immediately.. i believe they should cover this also although. i must correct immediately. i will keep all invoices for reimbursement. i would appreciate your prompt response. thank you.*jb

Traverse city mi driving around 55 mph vehicle started loosing power. pulled off side of road tried putting it in reverse since it wouldn't go forward slowly went. check engine light was not on. ran vehicle health report. turned engine off and back on hesitated to start but did. ran a little rough but than went for a mile or less check engine light came on. ran vehicle health report again. . did the same again rolled to a stop. turned engine off and on finished going 5 miles to work. called a wrecker had towed to ford garage. they said throttle body had to be replaced part wouldn't be in until tuesday due to labor day. cost would be $503. tuesday told me it wouldn't be here until 10:00 a.m. wednesday .car would be done by noon. called at 12:30 wednesday told me part is on national back order won't be in until october,17 2013. *jb

I am having problems with the throttle body on my 2010 ford escape doing a lot of the same things. its throwing itself into limp home mode and power failure with the throttle and shifting problems. and no power when stepping on the gas. i have read up on all the reports and the investigation. so i proceeded to take my car to town east ford in mesquite texas where i purchased the car from. the service tech guy at town east ford. refused to acknowledge the investigation and refused to check my car out without me paying him a bunch of money and refused to call my extended warranty without collecting the money up front. he proceeded to tell me that their dealership is not part of ford so therefore he has no idea what is going on and i can show him all i want to on the internet but he refuses to do anything until i pay all the money up front even though they are a ford dealership. the tech was very rude and i finally left there without getting my car fixed and still having problems. ford needs to come out with this recall before someone winds up in serious wrecks from it and the dealerships need to honor the products and vehicle they sell of ford. *jb

On wednesday, august 28, 2013 i was on the interstate, outside of town when i accelerated to merge lanes & my escape started lurching and i lost power causing my car to cost to a stop. i was able to limp to a location that was safe and had to call for a tow truck. i had it taken to the dealership where it was purchased and where i have all maintenance done on it. i was told by landmark ford service that it was the throttle body and that it would take about two weeks to get the part in and around $520.00 to fix it. i spoke with ford corp and they said they are aware of this problem (thus, the back order on replacement parts). my escape is 3 years old. *jb

I was traveling through a busy intersection, as i mashed the gas pedal nothing happened. my car went "limp" as if it had cut off but it was still on. i coasted to the side of the road, just barely avoiding being struck by speeding traffic. i cut my car off and waited 5 minutes then restarted it. i was able drive it a short distance to a mechanic where it again "went limp". after my car was examined, the mechanic determined the problem was the throttle body had malfunctioned. *tr

While driving in heavy city traffic at 35-40 mph, engine lost power and died making it very hard to brake and steer. i was able to steer into a turn lane without incident but was lucky not to be hit in the rear. this could be especially dangerous at highway speeds if you are unable to get off of the road. vehicle was able to be restarted after waiting about 5 minutes. this is the second time in as many days that this has occurred. internet research shows that ford has had numerous complaints regarding this issue and the nhtsa is investigating this problem. *tr

Driving down street, engine shut off. this would sporadically happen at different speeds and in different parts of town. error code p2112. engine would either shut off completely or would idle low and rough and not move, when accelerator was depressed, no increase in rpm. *tr

Was driving at 60 mph in the fast lane on the freeway, engine lost power for no reason. had no shoulder to pull onto, had to shut ignition off in the middle of the road with fast approaching cars passing me and coming up behind me. restarted car and it started running fine again. had this one time before this but not in the middle of rush hour traffic. after someone is hurt then they will have a recall for this faulty throttle body! *tr

While on my way home one night my car just cut off and left me stranded on the side of the road. *tr

Vehicle begins to loose power/ stall. the "wrench" light illuminates on the dash. after pulling over and restarting, it will go another 5 - 10 miles and it does it again. after 2 - 3 times it will throw the "check engine" light (code p2112). we checked/ cleaned the throttle body and cleared the code. car ran ok for about 3 days (50 miles), and it happened again. we are looking into hiring an attorney as ford does not want to help cover the cost to repair this defect. i have two young children that ride in this car, and uncontrolled stalling and sputtering is dangerous on busy streets. twice, this happened in the middle of an intersection, and at one time, it completely died going 40 mph, and the power steering quit, causing me to almost head into oncoming traffic. please help us and others with this issue, before someone is seriously injured or loses their life. *tr

I was exiting off the highway and all of a sudden my vehicle shifted and then started losing speed and would not accelerate. i had to immediately pull over to the right side of the street and put on my hazard lights and bring the car to a complete stop. i then put the car in park and turned off the ignition and started it again and drove on home. it happened again the next day with me being aware that it may do it again. so i took it to a car repair shop and learned that the throttle body was the cause and has to be replaced. i have only had the car for 6 mos and it is not covered under my warranty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the mil warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was later taken to the dealer where it was determined that the evac canister had failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. updated 9/4/13 *cn

While driving on the interstate and entering a ramp, the engine just lost power and there was a rapid deceleration. the car had no power and i had to pull over to the shoulder in heavy traffic. there was a wrench symbol lit up on the dash. i towed the car to a ford dealer in bettendorf iowa. they told me the problem was a bad throttle body and it would have to be replaced. there was a shortage of parts because there was 5 cars ahead of me waiting for the same parts. sounds like a common major problem. should be recalled for this problem. it could have created a dangerous situation. *jb

At least 10 times over the last few weeks, my 2010 ford escape has lost power while driving. the rpm's drop and the engine does not respond when pushing the gas pedal. also the wrench light comes on. changing the transmission to neutral does not affect the stall. typically after turning off the engine and starting it again, the engine resets to normal. today, this happen on a crowded interstate surrounded by semi trucks at 65 mph. luckily, i was able to coast through lanes of traffic and get to the side of the road. this defect is considerably dangerous and needs attention as soon as possible from ford. *tr

Vehicle was being driven down a county highway at 55 mph when it jerked forward and suddenly lost power. the vehicle coasted to almost a crawl before there was any sign of life to it. my wife called me and i asked her to pull over to a safe place. i told her to turn the vehicle off and then restart it. when she did this, she was able to drive the vehicle normally. the vehicle then jerked again and switched into the limp mode. at this point my wife pulled over and call a tow truck. the first mechanic i took it to said that i needed to take it to ford and that it was the throttle body. once i got it to ford, they looked at it and said that it was the throttle body and it needed to be replace. it's hard to believe that the part was on back order. there must be a demand for the part! i am thankful that my wife is fine, but i am concerned that the jerk that she felt could have led to an accident. i would hate to have this happen to any one else. *tr

Speed from 70 to zero. first time on freeway again it happen many times pull over shutoff eng. restart. call ford motor and dealer both say unless they could get the code from eng. not one thing could be done.it happen again my auto repair shop i walked over there they got the code and i took it to repair shop they put on new throttle body it now runs good but is this part going to happen again. *tr

While entering the highway from an inclined on-ramp, acceleration began to decrease even as the gas pedal was being pressed. i was able to coast to the shoulder, stop the engine and restart. the vehicle appeared to have returned to normal function. after traveling about 25 miles on the highway, the vehicle began to lose acceleration as i tried to increase speed to change lanes. the gas pedal was pressed to the floor of the car with no results. as i pressed the pedal the maintenance light and engine light lit up on the dashboard. i was able to get to an exit ramp and coasted to a safe stop. there was no previous warning from the dashboard indicators that there was trouble. i was notified by the dealership, that the throttle body assembly had failed. *tr

Vehicle stalls during normal driving for no apparent reason. wait a minute and it will restart. took vehicle to dealer and they said that the throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced. though mileage warranty has not expired, 3 yr warranty is out by 1 month so they will not repair under warranty. want $700 to fix. *tr

Escape sputtered & stalled. restarted & was serviced by ford to 'clean' the throttle body. within a few days, it exhibited the same behavior but much more frequent rendering the car unreliable. replacement parts are not available from the dealer for another 3-4 weeks. *tr

The engine lost power while driving multiple times in traffic which caused a dangerous situation. there was a limited area which to pull the car off away from moving traffic. the throttle body is at fault.

On june 23, 2013 driving on street about 25 m.p.h. when car suddenly dropped in speed to almost an idle. after pulling to side of road, was able to turn around and return home at about 1 m.p.h. fortunately, there were no vehicles behind me, otherwise, because of the abrupt stopping of the vehicle a rear end accident would have occurred. ford roadside service towed car to kindle ford, cape may court house, nj on monday june 24, 2013. i was later advised by the service department that the vehicle needed a throttle body assembly at a cost of $378.00 and that it was not covered under the power train warranty period. worse yet, i was told that the part was back ordered, service could give no date when the part would be available, as it was on nationwide back order and could be several weeks or more before the part was available. no loner car was offered for use during this unreasonable delay. *tr

While driving from atlanta, georgia area to opp, alabama, traveling at about 55 mph, the car engine just shut down, engine and mechanical lights came on. we coasted to a stop with the engine shut down. we restarted the engine and were able to resume. we were able to do this procedure four times, for about 9 miles and reached our destination. vehicle was towed to a ford dealer, who diagnosed the problem as "the throttle body broke." i was advised that this part was on back-order, nationwide, and may be delivered in 1 week or 2 months. therefore, we are now stranded. *tr

I was driving under normal driving conditions on the expressway when the car suddenly jerked and i no longer could accelerate and the service engine light on the dashboard began flashing. fortunately, i was able to get on to the shoulder and call a tow truck. it was due to a faulty throttle body. per the dealer where my vehicle was towed to, the part needed was on ford's national backorder list and they did not know when the part would become available. it took 5 weeks to get the part. it has only been about 7 weeks and my car did the same jerk on the expressway again today. i was able to continue driving to work as no service lights ignited on the dashboard, but i will be taking my vehicle in to get checked again. *jb
