We have classified the 267 complaints from 2009 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving on the highway to our vacation, my car felt like it was surging and the engine light came on. i took my car to the local ford dealership and the diagnoses code was p0012 and p0022. both vct solenoids were replaced. my 4 yr old car was still under warranty at the time. 2nd incident took place sunday, 09/08/2013. was driving at 45 mph and my car cut off!!! no lights came on until the engine stopped, and at that time the oil & battery lights came on. i was barely able to coast into the median. my local ford dealership could not see me until this thursday, 09/12/2013. so the problem has not been diagnosed at this time. i have been told by 2 ford dealerships that it sounds like the full throttle body. very scary & very, very dangerous!!! i am not driving my car. mileage is 34,791. this needs to be recalled before someone gets killed. i sent an email to ford customer complaints &have not heard back. my car is 4 yrs old & has had 2 major incidents that could have caused major accidents. *tr
I was driving on a city road and the engine randomly died when i was traveling about 40mph. all the lights and radio/electronics remained on (never lost time or preset radio stations, headlights, dash, etc) but as i tried to give it some gas, it wouldn't respond. when i realized the engine was not running after a few seconds, the rpms were at 0 and the battery light and oil light was on. no codes thrown or check engine or wrench light. as i pulled over and put it in park, i attempted to start it, and it started right up like nothing was wrong. didn't "cough" or crank and crank...fired just like it was brand new. i took the vehicle in to a local body shop and they checked normal issues that would cause the escape to randomly shut off and did not find anything. then i did research and determined there was an investigation upon the throttle body. this same issue has happened a total of 3 times, of which the most recent was in july and september. *tr
While driving the car started to sputter and would not accelerate and then would suddenly accelerate without touching the accelerator. eventually the engine just shut off all together. has happened several times since then. found out it was because of the throttle body, which seems to be a recurrence on ford escapes. *tr
I was stopped at a light. when the light turned green, i stepped on the accelerator and as the car got to about 5 mph, it went into what is referred to as the "limp mode." when i stepped on the accelerator, nothing happened. the engine "wrench" light came on, the engine idled at about 800 rpm, and it took about a minute or more for the car to "limp" out of the intersection. i turned off the engine, and restarted it. it then worked fine. i took it to the dealer, which was less than a mile from where this happened. after several days, they said they could find nothing wrong. now in june ( several months later), we had an instance where it happened again. i searched on the internet and saw you were investigating. i printed out the article, took it to the dealer and said this is exactly what happened. the dealer said it was a circuit problem, but the replacement part was on back order and it may take "weeks" for them to get the part. we drove the car once more and the same " limp mode" kicked in 3 times in a 3 mile trip. while turning off the engine and restarting the engine seems to clear the problem, this is extremely dangerous if the vehicle goes into the limp mode when it is necessary to accelerate the cross a road, etc. while my vehicle is under extended warranty, and hopefully it will be repaired satisfactorily, this is potentially an extremely dangerous malfunction and i am reporting it so that you can take it into consideration in your investigation. my vehicle was manufactured in july 2008, according to the sticker on the door. *tr
I was driving along when my vehicle began to sputter and stop. i was able to crank the vehicle up and drive a few feet before it started back up again, this time with the check engine light on. i was able to make it to an advanced auto parts store where they pulled the check engine error code and it indicated that it was an issue with the throttle body. i am able to drive it currently, but i am concerned that the throttle will stick just as i'm attempting to cross a busy intersection. *tr
In september of 2010, the check engine light on my ford escape would come on and off, on and off. some times it would stay on for weeks and then just disappear. sometimes it would stay on for a day or two and then disappear. and whenever i need to take it to the repair shop, the check engine light was never on. pep boys could never find anything wrong because they check engine light was never on, and no codes appeared. when pep boys drove the car, it never stopped on them. in april of 2012, as my son was home from college and driving the car, it shut off on him on the freeway on many occasions. he would explain to me that the engine went off and the car would not accelerate. he would have to pull over and either restart it or wait an hour for it to start sometimes. this happened on numerous occasions at fast and slow speeds. the check engine light and maintenance lights would come on. the car began stopping on me with the exact same problems stated above. every time i took the car to pep boys, they would drive it for hours and it never stopped on them. on april 29, 2012, i took the car in to pep boys, and the stop engine code read that the cam sensor needed to be replaced. i got the car back on may14, 2012, and it immediately stopped on me. then it ran good for two weeks, then it began stopping again on a regular basis. on june 21, 2012, i took the car in and the codes read throttle problem. they replaced the throttle and i got the car back on june, 29, 2013. i have spend over $3500.00 on this problem and would like to get reimbursed. one thing to not is that the original check light began to come on around august of 2011 and there never was a clear diagnosis until may and june of 2013. *tr
Driving on freeway at approximately 65 mph. car suddenly seemed to lose power, but retained power steering function. would not accelerate but might have had minimal power. coasted across three lanes of traffic and used brakes to stop. wrench shaped light on dash lighted. turned off engine and restarted after about 15 seconds. vehicle ran fine for next 90 miles and the next day. dealer evaluated the problem and says the throttle body needs replacement. there are other reports of similar problems on your website. also reports of possible recall for this problem by nhtsb and automotive press. it is a serious failure at speed on a busy highway and needs your attention. will the dealer cover the cost of the repair if there is a subsequent recall for this defect? *tr
I was driving on a 2 lane road at 35 mph with my young daughter and friend in the car when the car rapidly decelerated unexpectedly to around 5 mph. it sputtered and the "throttle control/power train" light lit on the dash. fortunately, the traffic was moving slow enough that i did not cause an accident. i turned on my hazard lights and crawled to the intersection where i turned onto a service road and parked. i waited 5 minutes and restarted the car and made it home safely 3 miles away. i will see what ford dealer has to say about this on the next business day. i have this car now for less than four years and have one incident after another. i have purposely purchased american made cars over the last 7 years, but don't seem to have luck. i may have to go back to foreign brands. *tr
Was driving at a consistent speed down a fairly busy road. vehicle suddenly lunged forward and accelerated without any pressure on gas pedal and i almost hit car in front of me and braking had no effect. after a few seconds of acceleration the car seemed to lose power to the drivetrain and was unresponsive to me pressing the gas pedal, and the wrench warning light game on. i could only coast over to the side of the road, but the shoulder was not wide enough so part of my car was still in the lane and the car behind me had to swerve out of my way. the car was stuttering and did nothing when i pressed the gas pedal, clutch, or changed gears. turned off and restarted and the car was working fine as it had been before the incident. the wrench light had disappeared so my mechanic could not pull any codes, but believes it is a defective sensor in the throttle body. for the car to suddenly lunge forward uncontrollably without any warning is extremely dangerous, no matter how short of time. i won't drive until the new part arrives, which could be a week as i live in hawaii. also, ford is refusing to pay for it as the warranty has expired. upon investigating this weekend i have found that this is a common problem with the escapes, but as an owner i was never once warned of it. had i been i would have it checked out much earlier and replaced if necessary. *tr
Driving at around 70mph and i noticed a light that looks like a wrench. the car began to lose acceleration. i had to pull over, stop the car and turn it back on and it began working again. the problem reappears after about 4-5 min of driving. this problem comes and goes. it will work fine for a few weeks and then it will start up again and disappear after a few weeks. *tr
The affected part is the throttle body. this issue had happened about 10 times since march 12th 2013. i was driving in rush hour traffic and going about 65 when it happened and it just stalled. there was a wrench light that came on. i had to somehow merge over two lanes while not being able to accelerate (very scary)! again this has happened about 10 times finally today while on a busy highway, where there was barely any room to pull over, it happened again. i was able to start it back up merge back into traffic, somehow, and about a mile down the freeway it happened again. i was able to find somewhere to pull over and this time the engine light came on. i took it somewhere and was able to get a fault code (p2111). there needs to be a recall on this! it was not only scary but very dangerous. i hope that if there is anyone else out there with this problem they make a complaint. *tr
Driving down the road at approximately 45 mph and truck had a momentary loss of power, like it was not getting fuel. did not stall and we continued down the road. it happens at various speeds and sometimes once and other times multiple times. gear and speed do not appear to be a factor. on two of the worst cases the power train / throttle control "wrench" light was illuminated, but of course after turning off vehicle and starting it back up and driving to dealership, the light was off and the truck ran fine. nothing was found the first time it was taken in. the second time i pressed them about it and they came back with over $975.00 worth of needed replacement parts (throttle body, mass air flow sensor, fuel injector flush and spark plug replacement @ 56,000 miles. *tr
While driving, the vehicle lost power. when pressing on gas it just coasted. the wrench warning light came on. was able to get to side of the road, but almost got hit from behind. turned vehicle off, restarted and was back on the road. on other occasions there has been some surging. i see that there has been many complaints on this problem and it is getting some press that there is a defective part (throttle body). i contacted ford service and was told that they could look at it, but it is not under warranty. however, the wrench warning light indicate a power train issue, i was told it is not covered under the power train warranty. this does not make sense and it truly looks like a defective part. this is very unsafe and could result in a very bad accident in traffic. this needs to be a recall since they are aware of the issue. *tr
My wife and i were driving home from supper at a restaurant. we were on a busy city street doing about 30 mph, when the car suddenly lost power and slowed to around 1 to 2 mph. we managed to ease the car home(around 2blocks) amid horns blowing and lights flashing from other drivers.the engine light had come on and showed a picture of a wrench. when i explained to the lady at the ford dealership the next day,she seemed to know right away that it would be a wrench showing ,which made me assume that they had this problem before.....bill for repairs was $545.00. *tr
Our 2009 ford escape is stalling and surging. the escape suddenly decelerates like it is stalling out, on other occasions it accelerates and revs the engine really high then drops back down. *tr
While driving approximately 55 on an interstate in middle of heavy traffic, my 2009 ford escape xlt 3.0l suddenly decelerated and went into limp mode. i carefully made it to the shoulder as speed dropped to about 5 miles an hour. while parked on the shoulder i noticed the warning light for the electronic throttle was lit. i shut off the engine and waited about 5 minutes. i restarted without incident. this is the 2nd time this has happened and it has been running rough as well. *tr
My ford escape 2009 keeps losing acceleration ability. the first time it happened i was only going 25 on a residential road so i was able to pull over easily. wrench light is on, i turn car off and restart and acceleration is fine. the next time i was pulling out of my driveway again turn car off wait turn car on and i'm fine next time heading home from work on a very busy street happened in the intersection had to get over limped into a quick trip turned off then back on works fine. but who is to say this won't happen when i am trying to turn against traffic i would be in a serious wreck. took it to the dealership the mechanic could not get a code off the computer. they are still trying but when a women (myself) mentions throttle body they try to say no that couldn't be it. *tr
Stop and speed up and not want to move had to replace throttle body unit. *tr
This happened first on january 7 and again today jjnuary 10, 2013. the car suddenly stops. the yellow wrench warning light comes on and indicates throttle control problem. can turn car off and restart and drive normally. it was very scary as my wife was left in the dark in the middle of a busy street. it seems to be very intermiitent. i have read others reports of this and ford apparently is not taking action. this is very dangerous situation which many have reported. *tr
Driving and wrench light came on at the same time that the vehicle lost power. this had happened previously on 11/25/12 and the dealer repair was replacing both vct solenoids and valve cover gaskets. both times when this had happened before i turned the engine off and restarted after 3-5 minutes. i was able to go another 6-8 miles and then the wrench light came back on. the second time, the check engine light came on and then seconds later 8 other lights were lit on the dash. i turned the engine off after coasting to the median of the highway (was in left lane with traffic at 55mph) and waited for a tow from the dealer. now the dealer is telling me this repair (replacement of throttle body) is not covered as the vehicle is more than 3 years old (actually, i've had it for 44 months). i want ford to pay for this repair as it seems rather common from what i'm seeing on-line. *tr
Was driving on the interstate and the car stopped responding to the gas pedal. car had to be towed to a ford dealer, where it was determined the throttle body is bad and has to be replaced to the tune of $350. a google search reveals this is a known problem, there just hasn't been a formal recall yet. *tr
Was on road.car just stop accelerating light came on,pulled to side of road. turned off. restarted and worked find for a couple of days. now have to deal with every other day. called dealership, and they said i need to pay for repair. it should be a recall. has happened alot to people. *tr
My 2009 ford escape has acceleration problems. i try not to make left turns due to vehicle slowing down when i am accelerating, the wrench comes on in the cab when i start experiencing the problem. also when on highway wrench light comes on and car slows down lie the brakes are on. *tr
Pulling out into traffic while stopped, pressed gas peddle car rolled but not strong , hesitated as i had told ford dealer, had to slam brakes so car would not go, by then upcoming car was to close. no accident but scared me. this happens often. not safe to have passengers, or myself. many complaints to ford but nothing done about it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle made a noise and the vehicle would not accelerate past 20 mph. the vehicle was taken to the a dealer for inspection and they stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and they stated that the warranty was expired. the failure mileage was 60,600. the vin was unavailable.
Shortly after entering highway on dark rainy evening, with no fore warning, car began to shake and lose power. was able to pull to side of highway. even though i was pressing on the gas, car would not go forward. wrench light was illuminated on the dashboard. called for assistance. when help arrived they suggested i turn off vehicle. when i turned back on, car was fine. the next day, with no warning, same thing occurs on neighborhood road. when we took to ford dealer today, the problem did not repeat so they have no repair code. this is a very dangerous situation....could lead to accident on highway...i have to drive 17 miles to work on highway and i am scared. *tr
I was driving on the interstate when i started to lose power and the throttle control/drivetrain light came on . i pulled to the berm and the engine felt like it was missing and it would not respond when i pressed the accelerator. i turned the vehicle off, waited and then turned it back on. the light was off and it ran okay. i continued to work with no further problems. on the way home from work the exact same thing occurred only traffic was much heavier on the interstate so getting to the berm was much more hazardous. i turned it off and then back on and it ran okay again. i contacted my local ford dealer and was able to schedule an appt for the next evening. the next day on the way to work the vehicle did the same thing as i pulled into an intersection. traffic was light so i was able to stop turn it off and then back on and it ran okay. i took it to the dealer that evening and they kept it so their service dept could analysis the problem. the next evening they contacted me and advised they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. i picked it up and drove it to work and home the next day with no problem. the following day it occurred again and i contacted the dealer and they had me bring it in. i was approx. 15 miles from the dealership when i contacted them and the vehicle did the same thing 2 more times before i could get to the dealership, once in an intersection and once on the interstate. after they analyzed it again they advised me it was the throttle body actuator (code p2111 throttle body actuator stuck open forced to limit power) the vehicle has just over 37,500 miles on it so it is not covered by warranty. looking on the web and the nhtsa website this doesn't appear unique to my vehicle. since this occurs without any warning and has happened at very inopportune times this looks to be a safety concern. *tr
We were driving our escape back from the store and all of the sudden it lost power and the throttle did not respond, this happened several times over the next few days. we took it to the shop and found out the throttle body was bad, there is no reason the throttle body should fail at all much less in a newer model car with low mileage. had we been pulling out on to a road we could have been involved in an accident! i don't think ours is an isolated indecent from what i have read online. *tr
My ford escape 2009 keeps losing acceleration ability. the first time it happened i was only going 25 on a residential road so i was able to pull over easily. wrench light is on, i turn car off and restart and acceleration is fine. the next time i was out of traveling out of town on the interstate at 60 mph when engine began to decelerate, luckily i was able to pull over to emergency lane. again i turned car off and when i turned it back on everything seem to return to normal. i had the car towed because i did not feel safe continuing to drive it. the mechanic could not get a code off the computer. the mechanic drove it and was unable to get problem to occur. i had to pick up the car with no resolution. i risked my life and drove it home. it happened again on the way home. i will not be driving my car again until this is resolved. it seems ford is aware of this problem with the throttle body. if someone is injured or killed because of this issue ford will be held liable. ford you have been officially notified of this hazardous malfunction and legally are now responsible for the outcome. *tr
We have had this vehicle in for service many times to try and find out why it often will hesitate to accelerate. recently it has begun to stall while driving. this has happened numerous times and without warning and at various speeds. luckily we have been able to avoid an accident. tonight when it happened the car stalled and the power train throttle control light came on. after the stall we put the car in park, then restarted it. we were able to drive to safety but the car was not driving smoothly. *tr
2009 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. *smd the consumer stated she was driving in the city, at 50 mph, when suddenly the vehicle failed to accelerate. her foot was all the way to the floor, but it would not accelerate. she also noticed two symbols, a gas and a wrench light, appeared on the left side of the dashboard. she was able to pull over, and turned the engine off. shortly after she turned the engine off and started it again, she was able to drive without any problem. she contacted the dealer, and was advised to monitor the situation. on december 21, 2012, as she was driving 40 mph in the city, the vehicle suddenly failed to accelerate again. at that time, only the symbol of the wrench appeared on the left side of the dashboard. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection, only to be told, they could not find a problem.
My vehicle will be driving fine until suddenly the car losses the ability to accelerate and the "wrench" light appears and the engine shakes forcefully. at that time i power the vehicle off and restart it. when it restarts the engine shakes for like 30 seconds and then the car proceeds to drive normal until the next incident occurs. at the time i was driving on a busy road at about 50 miles per hour. this has happened on several occasions. i was on the highway driving 65 and it has happened. i have three kids and this is extremely dangerous. *tr
Had just come over the tn river bridge on i40 east in tn and was approaching mile marker 137 when the vehicle became non responsive to throttle with no dash indication lights. at first i thought fuel pump shut down because acceleration did not work. i knew the engine was still running by rpm and power steering worked. the vehicle was coasting in the left lane and there was traffic behind, in front and in right lane. i turned on hazard lights in hopes of warning the traffic around me. the semi behind me had to slow also and i could not change lanes at moment. contemplating going left into the median and maybe striking an upcoming bridge rail or wait for open right lane and get to right side of interstate. i had an opening and turned off hazard flasher and then gave a right blinker, cutting off the semi behind who was trying to go around me. at that moment i thought we would get hit. pulled over and the wrench light came on and no check engine light. vehicle idled bad like a misfire and rpm gauge went up and down unsteadily. i videoed the fluctuation while pulled over. turned car off and restarted no problem. problem came back again 74 miles later in nashville at 88756 miles. at that point on i440e and i65 split the vehicle, without warning, shutdown again, became non responsive to throttle. then the wrench light and check engine light came on and i pulled over videoed the fluctuating gauges. turned vehicle off and restarted and lights went off and proceeded to crown ford on thompson lane and the service dept was closed. this issue also happened 5 times on 9-3-2012, between mileage 89,9002 to 89,1181, while in alabama/tn. example going uphill, and also coasting into someones driveway at night . this vehicle still currently has the trans flare issue even after two pcm reflash. but ford cant get it to act up. i thought maybe this issue was related. *tr
I was driving when all of a sudden the car shook slightly and then there was no more power from pushing the gas pedal and the powertrain warning symbol came on (picture of a wrench) and i was just coasting; i pulled off the road and put in park, when i put it back in drive, again nothing happened when i stepped on the gas, it would just coast. i finally turned off the ignition, waited a minute and turned it back on, and it worked and there was no warning symbol on. i saw on internet later that several people have had the same issue. i took to the dealer the next morning, he mentioned possibly the "throttle body" but then after they checked it, they said nothing indicated a problem, and the computer did not even indicate that warning light had been on, so there was nothing they could do. there is even a video on youtube about someone having this issue. i am scared it will happen again. *tr
While driving at a constant speed the throttle control actuator inside the throttle body can become stuck and cause the driver to loose all throttle and speed control. problem will present itself as a transmission issue as shifting through all the gears will not clear the problem, until engine is powered down and restarted. this is a clear and evident problem that appears at or around 75,000 miles. ford refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem with the factory model throttle body installed in most escape model vehicles. regular engine diagnostics do not display an error code unless the diagnostic computer is connected to the car at the time of incident and warning light is on. *tr
I was driving on the nj parkway when all of a sudden i had no gas peddle. i was doing 75 at time and truck started bucking was able to pull to side of road.. restarted it and went on my way. since then i have stalled everyday to many to count. *tr
Was driving in right lane approximately 45mph and i lost all acceleration. thought i had a flat or something. pulled over and into a parking lot. engine was idling rough so i turned it off and called my husband to see what was happening with the car. husband came and restarted, drove home no issue. on 8/11/12 driving to store the same thing happened but this time noticed the wrench light came on. the gas pedal stopped working loosing all engine power. pulled over and called my husband to see what happened. left car running, husband pressed gas pedal but engine stayed at rough idle. turned car off and restarted, drove car home and called servicing dealership for appointment. had the vehicle serviced on 8/10/12 to check transmission, thought that was the problem but they said everything was fine. they said they would let us know today 8/12/12 if vehicle should be towed in rather then driving it in due to safety reasons. *tr
The car jerks forward without pressing the gas pedal. when switching from reverse to drive it jerks forward also. i just read an article that talks about the same type of problem with other ford escapes. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated the instructions in the manual indicated that if the vehicle was on the vehicle could be towed in neutral gear for six at 65 mph. the vehicle was towed behind the motor home and the transmission fluid and the engine overheated; therefore, the vehicle would not start. the contact installed an auxilary pump to keep the fluid from over heating; otherwise, the transmission had to be replaced. the manufacturer stated the pump would void the warranty. the contact stated the vehicle was sold as vehicle that could be towed. the vehicle did not overheat after the pump was added. the failure mileage was 65. the current mileage was 60,000. updated 11/07/12*lj the consumer stated the manufacturer offered $800 for good will.updated 11/07/2012 *js
I have owned 2009 ford escape limited v-6 less than two months. while driving 35-40 mph the vehicle suddenly would not accelerate. it did not stop running so i was able to exit the roadway and return home. it took several minutes for it to return to normal. i did not get a check engine light or other warning. dealer advises i should wait to see if it happens again as it would be difficult to diagnose at this point. at the time of the incident i was on my way to interstate highway with 70 mph speed limit and a lot of heavy truck traffic. i feel fortunate incident happened when and where it did. *tr
Driving at 65 mph on highway when car suddenly lost power steering and power brakes. car then rapidly decelerated and i was able to exit the highway where the car completely died. throttle body needed to be replaced. *tr
I was driving down highway in morning traffic with cruise control set at 55-60mph when all acceleration cut off and i had to immediately pull over and put my 2009 ford escape into park, at which point the engine was shuddering violently and my wrench light (powertrain) appeared in the dash. shut off engine, waited 1-2 mins and restart engine. ran normally, pulled onto highway again and set cruise when the same happened a 2nd time. happened 3-5 more times (with & without cruise) over the next day until i could get my car to the ford dealer for service. ford dealer advised it was throttle body in addition to other sensors. (the throttle body was not covered under powertrain warranty and cost me $300 in parts & labor!!) the error codes were: p0012, p0341, p0346, p2111, & p2112. *tr
While driving on the highway the vehicle lost power and the wrench light came on. it wouldn't accelerate i was able to coast to the shoulder unharmed, but it was a morning commute and the highway was very busy i could have easily been hit. i turned the car off and it did start up again. this happened 2 more times in the same morning. i called the ford service department and immediately brought my car in per their instruction. after holding my car for 2 days and charging me $130 for service they told me there was nothing they could do because the wrench light doesn't hold codes. they knew when i dropped it off the only light that came on was no longer on when i brought the car in and they didn't warn me in advance that they weren't going be able to do anything without it happening while they had it. my vehicle at this time was under maintenance and power train warranty. so i took it home and this happened about 20 more times both on the highway and driving through town over about a 7 month period. this happened again 2 days ago 4 times on my way home from work on a very narrow road so it was very dangerous. this time the check engine light stayed on and i made another appointment with ford. i was told it had the codes for (throttle body stuck open/closed) they were able to replace the throttle body which i hope will fix this extremely dangerous problem. my car is still under powertrain warranty, but i was told that this part is not covered. so i paid full price for the part because my safety is more important, but this should really be recall. there were numerous times i could have been in a very serious accident. *tr
Driving ford escape 2009 at consistent highway speed for approximately 20 minutes. iphone plugged into usb port, head lights, air conditioning on and working. sudden feeling of hesitation and then floating. orange wrench light appeared. sudden loss of rpm's and engine power. semi-truck behind me weaved into other lane. i activated hazard lights and coasted/changed lanes over 3 lanes of highway traffic to shoulder of expressway. stopped and parked car. wrench light remained on. air conditioning, music, and lights remained working. i looked up code in owner's manual and found "powertrain" "service immediately". i turned off car. i turned off air conditioning, unplugged iphone, music, and lights. i restarted car. car immediately restarted with no warning light. with car in park, tested acceleration, no hesitation with rpms. i turned off car and waited 5 minutes. i turned car back on, again no wrench light, no hesitation with rpm/gas pedal tested. i turned off hazards and attempted to drive. no further problem driving that night or the next day. on monday i took car to ford dealership for inspection. i was called and told that battery needed replacement. i explained i was concerned because there was no loss of auxiliary power, rather engine power. the service representative stated they would replace battery at my agreement and continue testing. i was called later in day an notified that there was nothing wrong with my car. while waiting for call from dealer, i "googled" ford escape 2009 wrench light. i found multiple problems attributed to throttle body sticking, with inability of ford dealers able to identify this recurrent problem. my car remains at dealer. i called ford dealer again today and was told my car was fine to drive. i am concerned to drive this vehicle on any street/expressway with the potential for this to happen again, as reported by other drivers. *js
While driving the vehicle i suddenly lost power and wrench and engine light came on. i was able to turn the car back on after a complete stop. car was taken immediately to ford and they said nothing wrong with it and if it happens again bring it in. after multiple times on city streets and interstates which i feared for my life, the car would have no power and the engine would not accelerate when i would step on gas. had to shut the engine off and restart to make anything work. after that i took it to ford again and this time they replaced throttle body-air intake which they said there were other vehicles with similar issues. i had to pay out of pocket due to out of warranty but they surely know there is a defect there in the throttle bottle and certainly an endangerment to those driving the vehicle and to those around them. *tr
intermittent problem when driving gas pedal seems to loose resistance, vehicle starts to slow even though adding more power, as vehicle slows and approaches 5 mph it starts transmission to seize and engine to backfire. then with car stopped it won't go. when restarted it won't go the first time but the second start will then operate normally. has happened several times in a day at highway speed or in town. ford dealer unable to repair it so far had a minor leak in axle seal in front wheel drive repaired that no help. i believe it is a throttle body problem and have found this problem being suffered by many others on internet forums for repair advice/questions. *tr
When the gas pedal is pushed there seems to be no gas going in there.the a motor actually goes from a normal sounding engine and it sounds like it drops down to a lower gear when this happens and i have to coast to park safely. then i have to wait a half hour to start the vehicle up again and sometimes it will just conked out again. now what its doing its getting it got worse and now i can only go maybe 5 minutes and it conk out again. *tr
I started having problems with my car shutting down in feb 2012. after 2 throttle body's and still problems the dealer put a flight recorder on my car. this recorded 5 episodes of engine failure. they found that a sensor to the main computer was bad and replaced it. they left the recorder on and today 3/12/13 the car stopped twice and i pressed the recorder button. the car seizes, the engine revs when standing still and hesitates upon pick up. this has gone on long enough. ford doesn't know what to do about this problem and it is hazardous to my health. one day my luck may not be good as to who is behind me when it stalls. recall! recall! recall! someone needs to do something about this! *tr
In february 2012 (mileage approx 32900), i experienced jerking upon accelerating as my 2009 ford escape was changing gears. the dealer assessed it as a computer malfunction and reprogrammed the computer. my wife and i have had intermittent problems with jerking upon accelerating since. then, on 10/20/2012 (mileage approx 38000), the vehicle stalled when my wife was accelerating to enter traffic on the interstate highway. thankfully, she was able to get out of traffic without getting hit, and she and our 18 month old are ok. the dealership is replacing the throttle body. not only was acceleration a problem, the seals on the front axle broke and spilled axle fluid on the drivers side, so the dealer is refilling the axle fluid and replacing the seals. *tr
The transmission is slipping and wining. like a bearing is going out. i think it is the output shaft bearing. *kb
