We have classified the 267 complaints from 2009 Ford Escape about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
My wife was driving on the highway when the vehicle abruptly shut down in a high traffic metro area as an orange wrench light appeared on the dash. after resting on the shoulder for a minute and speaking with me (her husband), i asked her to try and start the vehicle again. it started back up as normal with the orange wrench light now not showing. the car ran as normal for about 10 minutes and then it happened again. she was able to get the car home safely. the next day i took a look at the car, did some research, and drove it around for awhile. the car ran fine for about 15 minutes until it occurred again. apparently the orange wrench light means there is an issue with either the power train or the throttle box. the vehicle shifts gears as normal so i am left to believe there is an issue with the throttle box (as i have read many complaints regarding this exact same issue with the 2009 ford escape). *tr
I was driving at 40 mph and the throttle control/powertrain light came on. there was some jerking, a loss of power and i coasted to the curve. i turned the car off, restarted and drove maybe 2 miles, the light came back on and there was a loss of power again. this happen 4 times and i was able to make it back home. i just had a complete fuel system cleaning that was supposed to clean the throttle on august 14, 2013. i thought i was having maintenance done to prevent my car from malfunctioning. this is the 1st time the throttle light has come on. this is dangerous and i see that other drivers with the ford escape are have the same type of problems. please make ford motors address this problem. *tr
The above affected parts field will not let me choose a part. we were driving on the freeway and suddenly the vehicle lost power - we had to go to the side of the road. the power was still on in the car but the accelerator would not work. we turned off the car and then started it again and was able to drive again. this happened on three separate occasions. the wrench light came on in the car and the book said throttle/drive train problems. we consulted a couple of dealerships and we since found out that indeed these vehicles are having throttle/accelerator problems. parts are hard to find on a waiting list. there should be a recall on this to fix it. we are now going to fix the problem and save the receipt. we feel we should get our money back. this is a very serious, potential safety issue. thank you. *tr
I drove at a constant speed (approx 30-35 mph) and all of a sudden wrench light came on and i could not accelerate. rpms did weird things, gas pedal didn't do anything, putting it in neutral in a drift down speed did nothing, park did nothing. engine never stopped, ac and radio worked...just couldn't accelerate. i finally made it to the side of the road, put it in park and shut off the engine. started it again (started right up), light was gone and vehicle ran fine the rest of the way home. was very dangerous because i lost power in an intersection. scary because my 7 year old was with me. *tr
Randomly the orange wrench light will come on and the car will lose power and shut off. i have to stop the car and then it restarts. this has happened in the middle of a freeway and was lucky to get to the side pull off. very random as it once happened twice in a day and then again a week later. this has been a recurring problem in multiple fords in doing research on line. why has this not been recalled? problem seems to be the throttle body. very dangerous. i have car at the dealership now and waiting their response. *tr
I was driving down the street and stopped at a stop sign. my car began to sputter a bit then lost power - did not shut off completely but the gas pedal would not respond. wrench light came on. shut the car off and started it back up again without a problem. about a 1/4 mile down the road, same thing happened and check engine light came on. i was low on gas, so i thought that might be the problem. filled the tank the next morning and the check engine light went off, drove fine to work. left work, went to pick my son up, and on the way home (about an hour of driving), the car did the same thing it had done before. this time, i was going a lot faster and in the middle of traffic. very scary and very dangerous. it took me about 6 times of shutting the car off and starting it up again to get home (which was only about 4 miles away).
On the morning of sept 4, 2013- i was making a turn at about 20 miles an hour. i had just about completed the turn when i was engaging the gas peddle to continue on, but the car was running and it wasn't going. i was able to coast off the road. i turned the car off. i started the car back up and had power from the peddle again, so i proceeded up the street only to have the same thing happen to me again, as i was turning at the next very busy intersection. i was lucky that there happened to be a gas station on the right side of the road. i pulled in and turned the car off. i contacted the ford dealership where i purchased my car to have them come tow my vehicle, and verify the reason for the incidents. i was informed that it is the throttle body, and it will need to be replaced. the part is on back order, but i am paying an extra fee to have it expedited. i am very lucky that on both times this happened, another vehicle was not right behind me, because i would have been rear ended and possibly injured. *jb
My 2009 ford escape with 55,000mi started stalling at lower speeds along with a jerky idle. just recently the car began stalling at freeway speeds, twice in one day. well after researching my problem and reading countless complaints that were in the exact nature as mine came to believe it was the throttle body. i called my dealership and asked if they've replaced a lot of these parts and the response was "ohh yea". you can't buy this part anywhere but at the dealership which is about $300. if you want it installed i saw an avg. between $500-$600. if your in my position and need your car to run safely, buy the part and install it yourself. it literally took my 15min to install very simple, look on youtube or whatever and at least save yourself $200-$300. i got the throttle body for $250 shopping around. and to rub salt in my wound the guy who sells me the part was like" if you would've bought this part 2mos ago it was $100-$150 cheaper?!? great...after removing the part the new one is different, slightly, so they tried to fix the problem. my real concern is a serious accident can happen when your car totally dies on the freeway, frequently! and after all the complaints i've read about this matter that no recall was ordered. also ppl keep your receipt if there is a recall we want our money. *js
While driving home with family on sept 1st, 2013, our 2009 ford escape decelerated quite rapidly from 45-50 mph to 0 mph within 10 seconds and wrench warning light came on. we were able to safely pull over and turn off engine. we waited a minute and it started back up again (no wrench warning light was no longer on) and we were able to make it home. it appears to be a faulty throttle body. *js
As i was driving down the highway, my car surges and then starts to slow down. i push the gas but nothing happens. the wrench sign pops up and i immediately exit and try to make it to the side of the road. putting the car in neutral and pushing the gas pedal does nothing now either. shut the car off and continue driving. drive for not even a mile and it happens again. shut it off and drove home without an issue. searched the web and i can see this happens a lot. just bought the car certified pre owned the day of the incident. hoping its covered under powertrain warranty, if not i don't know what ill do. this is a dangerous issue and needs to be fixed. its happening to so many people. very very upset dealership would sell me a car knowing that this issue existed. *js
We were driving along at a steady pace of 60 mph all of sudden there was a shudder felt by everyone in the vehicle and the wrench light came on. the car would not accelerate and dropped speed very quickly, and also making a jerking motion. luckily, there was no one behind us, we pulled over to the side of the road, and shut off the vehicle. popped the hood to see what was wrong and could not find anything. we turned the car back on and the wrench light was on and the vehicle ran just fine. doing research online found that this is a throttle body issue. i just want to say that if this would have happened while someone was behind us, there would have been an accident as we would have been rear ended. something should be done about this.
I will suddenly lose all throttle power while driving down the road. it doesn't matter what my speed is when this happens, and it happens every time i drive my vehicle but at random times. my power steering and power brakes will be fine, but i will have no throttle at all. i can push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and i feel no response and get no response from the vehicle. after a computer check, the displayed code showed that there was a problem with the throttle body. i have had the throttle body cleaned but the problem persists. it appears to be the same problem that many other owners have had and the same problem covered by recalls, just not on my model year. *js
Two times today, while i was driving, my 2009 ford escape stalled while i was driving. the first time i was in the middle of an intersection around noon on a six lane road, and the second time luckily i was in my neighborhood. this is ridiculously unsafe, and ford has taken no responsibility.
On 8-27-13, i was driving on the interstate to work, traveling 65mph, when my vehicle made a sudden surge and then lost speed. the rpm gauge went completely down and my vehicle would not accelerate. i was almost rear ended due to the sudden decrease in speed and not being able to do anything but swerve into the median. i turned the vehicle off and let it set for a second or two and when i cranked it up, it was fine. i am now terrified to drive this vehicle. this was probably the single scariest thing i have ever been thru. *tr
On august 16 i was driving into work on the highway when all of a sudden my ford escape lost gas pedal responsiveness and the power train warning light came on. i coasted to the side of the road and stopped. restarted and everything was ok. took it into my mechanic the next day and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. over the next week the same issue happened 5 more times in random places while driving. each of these times it would make a sudden shake and then the engine light would come on, gas pedal won't work till i stopped and restarted the engine. i was unable to take it back to my mechanic till the end of the following week and was hoping i could survive till then but on august 27 while i was turning left in a busy intersection it happened again. the person behind me rear ended me causing major damage to their car and minor damage to mine. i was luckily able to get out of the intersection by slowly inching across it with everyone honking at me. that was the final straw. i did some research online and figured out that this was actually a known problem with an open investigation (pe13003) and multiple known complaints. my mechanic confirmed that my research was right when he ran a diagnostic check and got error code p2112. he replaced the throttle body for $650. this is a serious issue that caused an accident. ford needs to issue a recall before someone gets seriously injured or killed.
I was driving approx 60 mph when my car jumped down to approx 25 mph and wrench light came on. i had to coast to side of road to get off highway. when i shut the car off and restarted it i was able to drive to saftey but then it happened again and car had to be towed to the ford dealer for them to charge me 585.00 and replace the throttle body. i have read this has happened to many people and this really should be a recall.
I have been having the same throttle body issues that many people have been having and want to submit my information to include. i have had the throttle body get stuck open many times and am currently in the process of finding a repair shop to replace it. *js
I was driving about 45 miles per hour, felt a jolt in the vehicle and acceleration began to decrease rapidly, no matter how hard i pressed on the gas. i luckily was at a low-traffic spot with a veer-off area nearby that i was able to coast over to with my four-ways on. i was able to avoid traffic. the throttle/powertrain light came on as the vehicle came to a stop. i was able to turn the vehicle off as it was lightly shaking, turn it back on with no issue, and slowly drive the vehicle about 3 miles to the nearest ford dealership. they were able to (next day) verify my fears that it was the pending recall issue, the throttle body had gone bad. they replaced it for $620 (including labor) within 2 hours and told me to hold onto my receipt because there would most likely be a recall. they told me that they've replaced many of these lately. i'm very lucky that i wasn't on the highway with many vehicles moving at a high speed around me, or else i could have been injured if i couldn't find a place to pull off. *tr
[xxx] i was driving 25-30 mph when motor went to idle, gas pedal didn't work and no power to transmission. this caused me to almost wreck. my fast thinking saved my life. i was able to steer the vehicle to a safe place in a major intersection. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
i was accelerating & at approx 50 mph the car jerked, a wrench symbol came on & i started loosing speed. i coasted to the shoulder of the road & cut the car off. i let it sit a few minutes & restarted it. the car drove fine to my destination but when i left to return home, it did the same thing again. the next day my mechanic ran the scanner but no codes showed up. about 3 days later i experienced another incident & not only did the wrench symbol come on but an engine symbol also. my owners manual said this meant "service engine soon". i had just had the oil changed and everything checked a few days before all this started! this happens at different speeds and on flat land or inclines. this is scary because you never know when or where your car is going to lose power & cut off. i took my car back to my mechanic & he cleaned the throttle body. he said it was extremely "gunked up" for a vehicle that only had 43,000 miles on it. $186.85 later i prayed this would fix the problem. on my way home i lost power twice. once was on a very busy highway. i was in the right lane & traffic was speeding towards my right side coming from an exit ramp. i had to dodge the traffic with my power failing & "limp" to the shoulder of the road. i'm still not sure how i made it to the side of the highway without getting hit! my mechanic was upset as well because the problem was not obvious and he felt responsible for putting me in danger. after more investigation we stumbled upon the fact that i am not alone! several people have had this problem! so much so that the throttle body is a very hard part to locate. after much searching, i was informed that a throttle body had been found and my car could be repaired for $588.26. i hope this recall will soon be approved because this is a very dangerous problem and i would hate for people to be killed before the severity is recognized. *js
Since i purchased my 2009 ford escape in november 2011, my car would occasionally just as i began to move after a stop sign or make a turn after stopping. about a year ago, my car had stalled in the middle of a street with the electricity out. this august, the car completely stalled (the electricity was still on) an onramp to interstate 81. i was able to restart it and attempt to go home, but when i turned left after stopping at a light, the car stalled again. the local ford dealership said," verified concern, pulled code p2112 throttle body stuck closed, performed all of the pinpoint tests and the throttle body failed the functionality test, removed air tube and found the throttle is very slow to respond to commands." *tr
While driving on the expressway at 70 mph the rpm dropped to approx. 900rpm. pushing on the accelerator pedal didn't do anything. a indicator light on the dash came on it is the shape of a wrench. i had to pull the vehicle off the road. after i parked on the side of the road i shut off the engine and waited about 30 seconds then restarted the engine and everything was working fine. i went back onto the road and drove approx. 12 miles and it happened again. i repeated what i had done earlier and the vehicle was ok again. i got back on the road and i made it around 8 miles and i had another occurrence, again i repeated the shut off the engine on the side of the road and it again started and ran ok. then i made it home! *tr
I was driving down the highway when suddenly my ford escape began shaking and felt as if something fell out from under it (speed at this time was 55 mph). i lost gas pedal responsiveness. i coasted into a parking lot. the check engine light was on. it was spitting and sputtering. i sat there a few minutes, put it in gear, and pressed the gas pedal. it was as if the gas pedal was not being applied at all. i called my husband who suggested i put it in park, turn off the switch, and he would tell me when to restart the engine. when i started it back up the check engine light was on but it drove like nothing had happened. i had a diagnostic test ran (not at a ford co.). no problems were detected and the light went off later. i had no more problems until 8/20/2013. the powertrain warning light came on. i was on the way to the local ford service center. i had to coast to the side of the road multiple times, stop, put the vehicle in park, turn it off, and restart the engine. i had to do this at least 35-40 times enroute to the service center which was only 3 miles from my starting point (speed was 5 mph-45 mph). i got to the service center, parked the vehicle, and walked in. service tech asked if he could help me. i said, "i'm having problems with my car shaking and loosing power. it's like it's in neutral. the check engine light is on and the powertrain light came on. i coast to the side of the road, put it in park, turn it off, and restart it. then i can go again." the service tech said, "your vehicle is either a ford explorer or a ford escape." i said, "that tells me this happens a lot. it's an escape. is there a recall on it?" he said, "no." i said, "i have an extended warranty on my vehicle check to see if the problem is covered?" he checked and said, "you have coverage (warranty is 72/100,000 cpo powertraincare wty w/roadside) but it doesn't cover the problem." *tr
1st time driving down street wrench light came on, truck lost power. had truck towed through research new it was throttle body. two days later truck started, while driving on highway wrench light came on lost power again .truck stopped working in a construction zone. took truck directly to ford service. they were closed. they looked at truck next day. i had a complete tune up at a different repair shop at 100,000.00. had all fluids changed and spark plugs. ford service called, and told me it needed all that done, that it was not throttle body. after i told them i already had all that done, they stuttered and said they would call me back. they called back said it probably was throttle body and gave me a large estimate. i chose to pick up truck. paid $128.00. received letter you wrote about from ford regarding throttle body. called ford. they said they will only replace it if the code shows up when i bring it in, if it doesn't i will have to pay out of pocket. i am upset because i already brought it in with that exact problem. please advise what i should do now. thank you. *tr
Sunday august 18, 2013 9:30 pm driving back from store on highway 17 wrench showed up on dash and car slowed down and came to a complete stop. i pushed the gas but nothing happened. traffic was behind me a i feared getting hit. i was able to get to the side of the road to avoid an accident. turned car off and waited for a few seconds. turned key in ignition and car started and ran just fine. 8/19/13, driving daughter to school on highway 80 vehicle did the same thing but sputtered twice. needless to say sheer pandemonium! daughter screaming and crying because highway 80 is very congested and the speed is 55 to 60 mph. managed to get to side of highway, repeated what i did the night before and car started just fine, was able to get daughter to school and myself to work. 8/20/13, it happened again. on highway 80, got to side of road and started car up again. got daughter to school and on the way to work car stopped again. started car again and got to work -- called ford and took car to shop. had to start car gain as it slowed down and would only go no more than 5 mph. car is at shop right now. waiting for ford to call me. car is under warranty as i purchased the extended warranty package. *tr
Driving down the street and the wrench light came on all of a sudden. then my car dies. put it in park then started it and as i tried to accelerate the car started to jerk then died. i repeated this till i got to the nearest repair shop and after $600 later found out it was the throttle body sensor. ford won't sell the plastic sensor by itself, you have to buy the whole aluminum unit at $400! plus labor! i will never do business with ford again! horrible quality parts. the worst part is i had my 11 year old son in the car when this happened. *tr
I was driving home and as i coasted to stop at a red light my truck started bouncing. the rpm dropped below 500 and the vehicle shut off. i put it in park and restarted and gave it some gas and it was fine until i made a right turn down a residential street and again killed itself. i had to repeat this till i got home. *tr
Driving on the highway at aprox 60mph, the escape lost speed and slowed down to 10pmh. *tr
On aug 14, 2013, i was headed home from work driving approximately 40 mph on flat land, when i lost acceleration power, i pulled over into a parking lot placed it in park where it ran very rough, the wrench indicator appeared, then i turned the car off, waited a few seconds and cranked the car and everything was fine again. approximately 4 miles later in my trip the same situation happened, i was traveling about 50 mph and a slight incline. approximately 7 miles later in my trip, while at a slight decline, traveling approximately 45 mph the same thing happened again. i then took my escape to the shop. they had it for two days driving it about 25 miles and they could not get it to duplicate the problem. i picked up my escape friday august 16, 2013, night (after the shop closed) didn't make it 3 miles from the shop, while traveling at about 60 mph, i lost acceleration power, the wrench light came on, i pulled over put it in park and again very rough idle, turned it off waited a few seconds, cranked it back up and it drove fine with no issue until this morning august 23, 2013, while traveling at approximately 40 mph on a slight incline in traffic, i lost acceleration power, the wrench indicator light appeared, i pulled into the center gore put it in park - while in park it runs extremely rough, sputtering and spitting, turned it off, waited a few seconds and cranked it up and came on into work with no issues. *tr
My wife owns a 2009 ford escape purchased new from a dealer and there have been so many issues with the vehicle i question if there wasn?t some type of flaw in the manufacturing process or at the very least, some type failure in the quality control process. within weeks of purchasing this ford escape we had to take the vehicle back to the dealer for an oil leak and transmission problems. after 2 or 3 trips to the dealer, the oil leak was fixed but the transmission issues (2 overhauls and then replacement) continued for years. thankfully, ford covered and the dealer covered 2/3 of the cost of the second transmission overhaul and almost all of the cost for the transmission replacement. all of this work was completed at the ford dealer ship in meter georgia. nice folks, we have no issue with the dealership. approximately 6 months ago, due to low engine power and using oil, we had the vehicle worked on at a local shop. that total cost for repair was 1600 dollars. last week due to a massive oil leak we had to have the vehicle towed in a local shop. the ford escape appears to have a cracked timing belt cover. having never heard of a vehicle having a cracked timing belt cover, i decided to do some research; a cursory internet search reveals many, many complaints of 2009 ford escapes with cracked timing belt covers. for our vehicle this will make five major repairs and numerous minor issues in a vehicle not 4 years old!! there has to be some manufacturing process with these vehicles. vin [xxx] 2009 ford escape xls information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Vct solenoids and cam sensors are faulty. the vehicle stalls randomly, engine lags and exibits poor fuel mpg. the problem occured just out of warranty and upon research; i have discovered this issue is very vast with 2009-2011 ford escapes, mercury mariners, 2010-2011 ford fusion and mercury milan vehicles equipped with the 3.0l engine and built on or before 3-1-2011. my 2009 ford escape and many others vehicles should be recalled at no cost out of warranty. *tr
I was on my way to work and was luckily on a frontage road when suddenly my 2009 escape wouldn't accelerate. i pushed on the gas pedal, but nothing happened. luckily i was able to coast down the hill and turn off onto a side road. the wrench symbol lit up and my car sputtered and shook. i said a prayer, waited a few minutes, started the car again, and was able to drive. i drove it about a mile down side streets to try and get it to my mechanic, but it did the same thing again and the check engine light came on. i said another prayer, started the car, turned off the a/c and was able to make it to my mechanic w/out further incident. they said that it could possibly be a few different things and since the parts are expensive, they didn't want to replace the part and not have that fix the issue, so i had to call a tow truck ($75) and have it towed to the closest ford dealership. i didn't dare try to drive it to the dealership for fear that it would die on the way there and since the dealership is located off of highway 75 in mckinney, i couldn't risk it dying on such a busy highway w/ my daughter in the car with me. the dealership called and said it's an issue w/ the electronic throttle body. my car only has a little over 58,000 miles on it. as a single divorced mom who is struggling to make ends meet, it makes me very upset that i have to spend my hard earned money ($674) on fixing something that is obviously an ongoing issue w/ this make and model. this is completely unacceptable to not have a reliable vehicle when this is a known problem. i am not a happy customer. i shouldn't have to rely on luck and have to worry and stress every time i drive my car that it will die on me. ford needs to step up and do the right thing and get this issue fixed as part of a recall b/c it is obviously unsafe and lots of ford escape owners are experiencing the same thing. *tr
I was merging off of an exit ramp. i slowed down so i can enter traffic, and then when i accelerated, the car hesitated/lagged before surging me forward. this problem occurs often and has almost caused an accident. sometimes it will happen when i'm completely stopped and then accelerate, or going up a hill. *tr
Driving on interstate, when car suddenly stopped. could not accelerate. coasted to shoulder of highway. attempted to drive again and a few minutes later, the car stalled again. called tow truck and had vehicle towed to nearest ford dealer. problem identified as failure of throttle body. had to have replaced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 ford escape. the contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph the vehicle would not respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the wrench light illuminated indicating a power train or a throttle failure. the contact stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the road and turned it off. after restarting the vehicle, the contact was able to drive without failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000. *tr
As we were driving down the road the car jerked and when i pressed the gas i wasn't gettin any at all so i pulled over to the side of the road and finally came to a stop. tried pressing the gas and nothing. shut the car off for a few minutes started it back up and it was normal again. just not very happy because we are financing from a use lot and have only had it for 8 months. *tr
While driving the motor lost all throttle response and had to coast to a stop. was diag as a bad throttle body. *tr
The vehicle jerked and then i started slowing down. i tried to accelerate but my vehicle continued slowing down. i pulled to the side of road & put vehicle in park, turned off the engine and restarted and was able to continue to my destination. it happened again on aug. 2nd, 3rd and 5th, 2013. when it happened on aug. 5th i was a block from home and the engine light came on that time. i turned the vehicle off and started it again & the engine light stayed on so i turned around and went home & parked it. i called my local ford dealership & they picked it up and replaced the throttle body. *tr
Came off freeway on multiple occasions after doing 70 mph. stopped. traffic was clear. went to accelerate and severe hesitation. have also had many times where accelerating with vehicle and it will hesitate and then surge. *tr
Driving into round abouts in sheboygan wisconsin. vehicle lost power wrench light came on along with check engine light. almost was side swiped by another car. was able to restart car only to have it happen again 5 miles down the road. was able to restart car again where it is parked in my garage. *tr
I was driving along when the car feels as though it's about to stall. i immediately slow down to pull over, turn the car off, let it sit for a moment then start it back up. the problem has continued to happen until i took it into a garage to find out i need a new throttle body. *tr
I am so stressed ! i was driving saturday morning july 27, 2013, on rt 287 south in morris county. nj . my husband and i were in the middle lane of this very busy highway when he stepped on the gas pedal to accelerate- our 2009 ford escape did not accelerate- it stalled out at 70 miles per hour. the wrench light lit up on the dashboard and we had to pray that we could coast over to the right lane and then to the shoulder while trucks were zooming by. we called aaa for a tow to the local garage. at local garage, vehicle was kept for 9 days, test driving it, but had no incidents because wrench light never went back on. was advised to contact ford where i purchased vehicle .i called ford.they could not see me for another week. i drove vehicle doing errands- 2 days later at a traffic light, i was making a left turn- truck sputters and dies upon acceleration. wrench light goes on again. i now have to coast to the side of a busy main road and coast into an exit only shopping center, praying i do not have a head on collision. i spoke to friend who advised me to come to this web site. lo and behold- over 350 complaints describing the same experience i had! this was clearly a defect in the model. i called ford again, begging for an earlier appointment and was told that if i wanted to rent a car at my expense i could come in. they were out of loners! ( a car dealer-really? ) i waited for appointment, meanwhile check engine light goes on permanently 2 days later. now i am petrified to drive my vehicle with the fear it is going to drop dead ! showed all info from this site to ford and was told that this was not included in warranty or a recall. it was the throttle body - it cost me $567.10 for part and labor plus tax = $606.80. i should not have to pay for this- very dangerous situation with this part faulting out! and was told there is no recall at this time. i am angry! *tr
Car did not die, basically jumped a bit and would not go over 2 or 3 mph as i pressed gas pedal- wrench check light came on- had to turn off and restart - this happened again 2 times yesterday 8/9/2013-- no accident as of yet but extremely dangerous. *tr
Driving vehicle approx. 50 mph on a clear day, approx 105 degrees in las vegas nv, the rpm's suddenly went "limp" around 900 even though the gas peddle was fully depressed. appearance of a wrench light and check engine light noted. hazard lights were engaged and the vehicle was successfully pulled to the side of the road, turned off, and restarted. ran fine like nothing happened for about a mile and a half. same issue. repeat troubleshooting. incident continued to happen for 4 more days consistently. taken into ford dealership for diagnostic and repair. mechanic contacted me after diagnostic and informed that the code for the throttle body was in error. replaced the faulty part( i kept it at my request due to the possible investigation into the matter) and the vehicle now runs fine. thank goodness the issue did not occur in a busy intersection where an accident could have potentially endangered anyone. *tr
Driving about 55-60 mph down the highway my gas pedal stopped responding and my truck rapidly slowed down. i was able to maneuver to the shoulder & restart. this happened 4 times in the 7 miles to pick up my daughter (toddler son was with me). i had to go to the nearest service shop and almost $500 later its being fixed. *tr
Driving on highway at about 65 mph. driving for about 30 min. when vehicle started to stutter and slow down. pushing the accelerator and no response -rpm and speed dropping quickly. almost run over by other vehicles on highway. wrench light came on the dash panel. car was pulled over to side of road and barely going at 900 rpm and ~ 2 mph. needed to ha e car towed. this is a very dangerous issue that needs to be fixed immediately! *tr
Vehicle moving at constant 45 mph when engine stumble felt, electronic throttle control/powertrain light illuminated and lost all ability to control vehicle speed with accelerator pedal. engine was still running and vehicle was able to be safely pulled off the main road. after turning vehicle off and then back on, the light went out and all systems were again ok. problem was traced to the electronic throttle control (throttle body) and fix requires replacement of the part. *tr
My wife was driving with the cruise control on. then the cruise shut off, and the accelerator pedal was unresponsive. she pulled to the side of a busy highway, and waited for a tow. the repair shop diagnosed the problem to the throttle body, which was replaced for $183.95 plus labor. *tr
This is the 3rd time this problem happened. i'm driving normally, at a constant speed, and all of a sudden, wrench light comes on, rpms do weird things, gas pedal doesn't do anything, putting it in neutral in a drift downspeed does nothing, park does nothing. putting it in park and shutting the engine, and starting again makes the light go away and run fine again. this is a huge safety concern as i travel with young children and this will happen with no warning at all. very disappointed ford will not recall and fix this very common problem. *tr
The engine sputters and stalls while driving. it has done this 10 or more times in the last two weeks. the yellow wrench symbol is displayed on the instrument panel. after getting to the side of the road and switching the car off and back on, the car will run fine for a few miles - sometimes for a day or two. after talking with a couple ford dealers, i was told that this is a common problem with the throttle body and there was no throttle body's available to fix the problem. there was a two to three month backorder for the part. if i keep driving the car it will be a matter of time before the car will cause an accident. if this is a known problem ford should be responsible for the repair. *tr
