Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2008 Ford Escape

The steering wheel motor is not working

After depressing the accelerator the vehicle rpm's increase but the vehicle speed will not....almost as if the throttle is "sticking." this occurs while the vehicle is in motion.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the rpms increased. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. in addition, while attempting to tow the vehicle with the gear shifter in the park position, the vehicle rolled away. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 15v606000 (power train), but the vin was not included. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 116,000.

Slipping when it goes from third to fourth gear

I received a recall notification 14s05 from ford about my 2008 ford escape. the recall was for a faulty torque sensor that would either be reprogrammed or replaced. instead of replacing the torque sensor, ford service decided to just reprogram it because it had not failed or produced a service code. just recently the torque sensor failed and my steering lost power while driving through a parking lot. i did not have the strength to turn the wheel and had to just stop and leave the car in the lot until someone could come help me. i brought my car back to the same dealership that performed the original recall repair and am being told that the recall has been performed and now i must pay them to replace the torque sensor. after spending time researching the issue online i discovered that this is a widespread problem. it is apparent that ford is only replacing the sensors if they have already failed when you bring your car in for the recall. if it has not failed then ford only does a reprogramming that doesn't prevent them from failing but allows ford to close out the recall on your vehicle and save money on a replacement part. i don't understand how this is legal for them to do. i talked to several of ford's service managers and customer service representatives and they all give the standard rehearsed answer. *tr

The throttle seems to get stuck while i'm driving. i'll push down on the gas pedal, the rpms will go up, but the car won't speed up or respond for a few seconds and then it will finally "catch" and accelerate. happens often, sometimes from a stop and sometimes when i'm already in motion, even on the highway. i've been having the problem for about a year now, and i only have around 38,000 miles on the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while parked, the vehicle was unable to start. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence where it was repaired; however, the cause of the failure was unknown. in addition, while at a stop, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact switched off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence again. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I have had to have the transmission replaced 3 times. now i am in the same position again. ford was no help to me.

At approximately 134,000 miles while driving on the highway, my car suddenly drastically slowed down quickly, started revving really high and the 'wrench light' came on. this almost resulted in getting rear-ended by the car that was traveling behind me on the highway. i took the vehicle to a ford dealership for an estimate. was told the transmission was missing 2nd and 4th gear and the transmission would need to be replaced. was told by ford that the cost would be $4,200 to replace the transmission. the band for 2nd and 4th gear broke, sending the vehicle into limp mode (only using 1st and 3rd gear). i found this is a known issue as there are many complaints about this as well as a tsb (#tsb-12-4-8). after further research, i have discovered that this is a common issue with all ford family vehicles that have the cd4e transmission. i have owned ford vehicles for over 20 years and have never had this issue. ford knows that this is a common issue but refuses to assist their loyal customers with a solution. while talking to a ford service technician about this, i was told that ford knows about the issue but refuses to do anything about it, leaving the customer to pay to replace something that ford knows has issues. does it really take someone to get injured or get killed in order for something to be done about it? if feel that ford should pay to have the transmission replaced or provide a significant discount if the customer must pay for the replacement.

Transmission will not go in drive only go in drive two one and reverse.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds for a long time, a leak from the rear driver's side of the vehicle was noticed. in addition, the vehicle was losing power. the contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed to engage properly, the axels and parts to the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was then towed to a dealer out of state where axels were replaced but the failure recurred. the contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle was able to shift gears and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer again, who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt. the vehicle was not repaired and was inoperable. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v606000 (power train). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Acceleration is labored. the vehicle skips gears when driving at a low speed rate. the vehicle will jerk and make noises as it skipping through 2nd and 4th gear. unfortunately, this happened in traffic at rush hour.

I was at a red light preceded to go forward when the light changed a wrench symbol appeared and the car would not accelerate there was a semi truck coming at high rate speed so i had pull to the side of the road it was scary situation i could've been killed i like ford but i probably will not get another one if this is not recalled

Vehicle displayed a wrench symbol on the dash and vehicle lost power to the wheels. after pulling over and stopping i tried putting the vehicle in drive and it would not move. then i tried reverse and again it would not move. had it scanned and it suggested that it was a transmission problem. after reading previous similar complaints ford should realize that this a serious issue and should take responsibility and put a recall before someone gets seriously injured. the vehicle is seven years old and under 87,000 miles it should not be the owners rresponsibility to correct the problem.

Attempted to pull into uncoming traffic in a 45mph zone , but could not get to more than 10mph. the power train light appeared as a wrench bottom left of steering wheel. glided/steered car immediatly to closest parking lot and called closest ford dealership.

Was diving down the road with my two kids in the car when i heard a pop i looked in my rearview and watched as a small part went bouncing down the road than it slowed down immediately and i couldn't accelerate or drive it stopped dead in the middle of the road i got out and my transmission fluid had gushed out all over the bottom and back rear windshield took it to a garage it is the transmission it needs to totally be replaced i'm guessing the trans cooler was leaking fluid and after the fluid was to low that it literally blew up i don't understand why there has not been a recall the 2008 ford escape has the most complaints than any other year it's insaine my car died in the middle of the road on a hill in the middle of no where with two little kids n the car we are so lucky that we didn't get smashed into by someone they better fix this problem i should sue ford for selling faulty transmissions and not fixing them and i don't understand after all of the complaints you have had why the safety comics ion or the government has not done a recall on this year especially i've read over 800 complaints and r stone has been the. same thing with my year and moe it doesn't matter how many times the transmission is replaced you get about 24k to 40k before you need to replace them again

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was driven to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

In heavy traffic the car lunged as it was going through the turn lane. the car is not shifting correctly between 1 and 2 gears. it stalls and then lunges. this is my wife's car and she was terrified to drive it. we took it to finish line ford in peoria and they said there was a service bulletin out on this common problem. the 2008 escape does not shift correctly between 1&2 gears and 3&4 gears. the repair costs $1300 so ford is making major profit. i was previously offered a service contract to continue the warranty which they point to and say i could have taken it. if ford was honest and knew about this problem and told everyone that owned a 2008 escape that failure was going to happen on this transmission then i might have purchased the contract but they with-held information needed to make an informed decision. this lunging is extremely dangerous. *tr

My wife was driving when she went to take off and the car went to around 3500 rpm before shifting out of first gear. we took it that day to the ford dealer and it was diagnosed with a broken overdrive band and the car is missing 2nd and 4th gear. i have done a google search of this issue and it is a very common one on this car. there are thousands and thousands of complaints out there. it is so common that when i picked it up at the ford dealer they told me there was no charge for the diagnosis even though i had not had it fixed yet as they knew exactly what the problem was without taking it apart. they said they see it all the time. if my wife had been pulling into traffic when this happened and was expecting it to take off like normal she could have been in a wreck as the car will not take off like normal. she was very lucky. how ford can get away with not doing a recall when this is such a common issue is beyond belief. i am now looking at a minimum $1300 bill just to fix that part. that is if i don't do a rebuild or new transmission. this is the 6 cylinder version of this vehicle. *tr

Driving down the road at about 30 miles per hour. slowed down to about 15 to go over a set of railroad tracks. upon acceleration the engine revved up to 3500 rpm before shifting. at that point the 2nd and 4th gears were no longer available. diagnostic at ford indicated the gear band had broken. $4463 repair for a transmission with only 86,000 miles. *tr

Driving down highway car suddenly didn't want to accelerate from stop light. rpms would surge to 4.5-5,000 but car wouldn't go faster than 20mph until about 100ft. wrench light came on. took it to ford dealer, bands 2 to 4 are broken. have to get a new transmission for $3,800. an inability to accelerate is a very serious safety issue. ford_please do the right thing and put a recall on this! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears and the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact had to maneuver to the side of the road to a complete stop. after few minutes, the vehicle started normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

We have had throttle body problems since 2008. ford dealer replaced it once in 2008. throttle body sticks and you can't push the gas pedal down. this happens the first 5-15 min of starting the car.. it happened on 3-2-2015 while trying to cross a highway, could not push gas pedal down. we just about got t boned ! also we have had the transmission replaced at 114000 miles. dealer says we have transmission problem again and the throttle problem again. *tr

There is a bad weld on the ac condenser/ transmission cooler estimated cost $800. if not replaced transmission will fail. found multiple complaints. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while parked, the vehicle leaked fluid. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was leaking fluid and would need to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where it was confirmed that the transmission was leaking fluid and needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Backing into parking spot car started to surge and stop. while attempting to get car home it started surging and over revving. when stopped it would not move. pushed off the road. restarted and revved hard and was able to get it home. now you put it in gear, engine revs, then decels to 800 rpm and will move some. *tr

My car feels like it's jerking into gear. if started off only jerking when i would be at a corner and i needed to make a turn. the car would move very slow and then mum forward. this is very dangerous because any cars coming could possible hit me. after a while it would also jerk when i was stopped at a light and needed to pull off, the car would move forward slowly and then jerk forward. now the jerking is happening while i'm driving. is there something going on with this vehicle? i am scared that i'm going to get hit one day. *tr

Escape would not shift gears when it hit 20 mph it stalls when going from a stop position. rpms would jump up during this time until it finally does kick into gear. took to mechanic and was told the 2nd and 4th bands on the transmission are faulty and need transmission rebuild. there is a tsb out for this problem but this is a safety issue and should be a recall. mileage is at 101,000 miles. having your car not accelerate from a stop position puts the driver and other drivers at risk. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle made a loud clinking noise and the transmission seized. the contact lost control of the vehicle. the service vehicle warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission was faulty. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 75,000. updated 4/15/15*cn updated 03/09/16.*jb

After the recall on the power steering for the 2008 ford escape we have had numerous issues. moses ford of st. albans, wv said the computer must re-set. at 7:30 a.m. on 1/23/15 the power steering went out. ford motor company states we must pay for all repairs even though a problem has existed. was told that some cars had to have complete system replaced because of problems. this comment was made when i contacted ford motor company. the computer was just re-programmed on mine. *tr

It feels as though the car is pulling to drive forward. and a puttering effect. *tr

We were driving to work and noticed that the car was not shifting at all. we got about a 1/2 mile and a wrench-like light appeared on our dash. i got out the owners guide and looked it up and it said it was the throttle control/power train. *tr

Transmission slipping. no 2nd or 4th. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the transmission would need replacing. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 41,400.

I own a 2008 ford escape a couple of days ago coming off the thruway i started to apply my breaks to slow down, instead of slowing down my vehicle sped forward on its own,i had to firmly apply the breaks to make it stop just barely avoiding hitting the vehicle in front of me,right after that a yellow wrench came on the dash.then the vehicle would not go higher than 20 miles, the car was basically coasting.when i try to give it more power it would just stall.i had it towed to my local ford dealership and had to pay $100 to see what's wrong, they tell me my 2nd and 4th gear is gone and i have to have my transmission replaced. a ford rebuild transmission would cost me over $4200,a junk yard transmission $3800,called aamco they said $2200 i bought this vehicle in 2011 with a little over 34,000 miles,it currently has 58,300 miles on it,now in 3 yrs i have driven this vehicle less then 25,000 miles.meaning around 8,000 miles if that a year.so why in the world do i need a new transmissions? i learned there was a serious amount of complaints about these ford escapes 2005-2013 models all with this same issue, instead of ford doing a recall and fixing the problem, they settle on a customer satisfaction program, but instead of them including all the vehicles with this issue, they only do it for the 2009-2013 models. i talked to someone from the ford motor company and they said my car wasn't eligible for the customer satisfaction program cause its a 08 ,what difference does it make on the year its the same issue as all the other escapes .now is that fair if there's other year models out there now experiencing the same issue.this is a known issue with these vehicles and ford should be responsible in fixing the problem.now i have a vehicle that i cant drive and have to wait to get up the money to fix. i will never purchase a ford vehicle again if this is how they treat their customers. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the power steering failed and no warning indicators illuminated. the failure had recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the torque system was faulty. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000. the vin was not available. ## vin failed ## 2008 ford escape ##

Pursuant to the 2014 recall on my vehicle, i took my 2008 escape to be serviced. upon information and belief, the torque sensor module was reprogrammed to prevent the loss of steering. said service was performed on october 1, 2014. on november 14, 2014, the vehicle lost complete control of steering while driving with my young child, three hours from home. after having the vehicle towed to the dealership that performed the work under the recall, i was told we were responsible for the repairs, despite the mechanic admitting and agreeing with us that it was an issue that should have been fixed under the recall. the mechanic's hands were tied as ford would not authorize the work to be performed on the company's expense. the estimated price of repairs is $1600. the mechanic also told us had we not brought the vehicle in as instructed by the well publicized recall and the steering failed, it would have been covered under the recall. the recall states, "alternatively, the dealer may need to replace the torque sensor or the steering column. this service will be performed free of charge (parts and labor)". ford indicated by phone that this only applies to the first visit. any subsequent visit for a recall issue is the owner's expense. ford's misrepresentations in its recall notice and subsequent actions are unfair and deceptive trade practices, not to mention an extreme safety issue and danger to consumers who believe not that their vehicle is safe to drive after being serviced by the recall. *tr

Throttle body actuator system failure. surging, unnecessary revving at low speeds. inconsistent acceleration and gear change. trouble code "p2112 throttle actuator system stuck". *tr

Difficulty shifting from gears. throttling high before shifting. i have replaced transmission three times in this vehicle. *tr

My car doesn't take 2nd or 4th gear. it's a faulty transmission. there are numerous complaints all over the internet with ford escape owners once this car passes 100, 000 miles. ford has not done a recall on this. i think it is unfair that consumers have to pay for a new transmission when ford know there is an obvious defect. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. when stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle vibrated when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact also stated that the vehicle reversed independently and caused the contact to shift into park in order to stop the vehicle. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

I was traveling at the posted speed on north bound ih 35 just north of georgetown. i removed my foot from the accelerator to slow briefly to evade and pass a slower moving vehicle - instead of slowing, the engine revved. i stepped on the brake and the car slowed, but the engine continued to rev. i noticed a wrench warning light in the dash and called my daughter to help me with it. my son-in-law said it was a powertrain fault warning. i pulled off at the next exit, turned the car off and waited 10 minutes. i restarted the car and the light went off; so, i continued my trip home resuming and maintaining highway speed; but the rpms stayed @ 3000. at the ih-35 east-west split, i decelerated to make the turn toward dallas and the engine revved to 5000 rpms and stayed between 3k-4k for the rest of the trip. the gears change really hard and the engine revs really high until it drops into o/d; but rpms stay between 3-4k. i took it to an independent repair shop and was told it is a gear-ratio issue and i need a rebuilt or new transmission overhaul. *tr

While driving with the transmission in overdrive the wrench light was activated and i noticed no change in speed but noticed a very large change in the tachometer from 2000 rpm to 4500 at that time the car just started slowing down until i took it out of o/d and just continued on my way. it seems like it is something in the transmission that is causing this problem. *tr

Vehicle won't shift into 2nd gear until reaching 3500 - 4000 rpms. can let off gas to ease change, else vehicle jerks into 2nd. *tr

While normally accelerating from stop, vehicle reached 4000 rpm then shifted very hard, driver and all passengers experienced a jolt. the vehicle was taken to a shop for diagnosis. the diagnosis revealed codes p0732 & p0734 - cd4e transmission. the shop manager explained that the vehicle has transmission issues in both gears 2 & 4 and that the transmission needs to be replaced/re-built. an "identifix - direct hit" document was provided showing 60 confirmed fixes regarding transmission replace/rebuilds on 2008 ford escapes under the same issue. upon review of the nhtsa website, i am seeing multiple investigations and complaints regarding the same/identical issue. please consider issuing a recall on these vehicles for this concern as i am currently facing a repair bill over $3000.00 on a vehicle that i purchased less than 8 months ago. *tr

Yesterday while driving with my two young children my car would suddenly accelerate causing my car to lurch forward faster than i was anticipating. then today the same thing although today the wrench symbol showed up having me look up in my manual what this meant. i then looked online (having no car knowledge to see what this meant) and find out other people are having similar problems.this is a scary situation when i usually always have my kids in the car. i feel ford needs to fix this problem when so many people are jabbing the same problems. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving approximately 40 mph, the transmission failed to respond and revved until the engine increased to 4 rpms. the transmission jerked when shifting gears and the wrench warning display illuminated continuously. the dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated when engaging the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the transmission. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

The condenser is combined with power steering and transmission. this vehicle should not of had a leak as it only has 28311 miles on it. this is bad for ground water as fluid leaks goes on street and into storm drains. cost to fix is about $700.00. *tr

As i would take off the vehicle seemed to jerk really hard when switching gears and the wrench light came on.i had someone run a test and it said it was my transmission and after researching my friend found a recall on this and read several others are having the same issue. *tr
