On average, the 2013 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 86 989 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2013 Ford Edge

The brake booster developed a tear causing by braking system to become defective, braking became very difficult while i was driving on the hightway in that i had to press the pedal very hard to come to a stop. this problem has been identified in ford edge 2010-2013 models, but my vehicle missed the date on the recall by only a couple of months.the repair is costing almost $700 plus cost of car rental while it was being repaired.

I lost the break while driving at 20 miles , the break went to the floor.i change the breaks and pads and the breaks still incredible low. i call ford customer service and they are not helpful at all this is a very sirius problem please do something

Brakes became spongy 2 1/2 weeks ago. took to family mechanic. they were unable to recreate and stayed the brake pads are in great condition. went on short vacation and the brakes continued to be spongy but not every time. when we returned home it began happening more frequently and a hissing sound began when applying brakes. then yesterday morning the car shut off in the middle of a busy intersection but restarted after a few minutes. took it into mechanic again and they were able to recreate both issues. after research they discovered a ford extended warranty for this issue so i towed it to nearest ford dealership. now the garage is telling me it will cost between $800 and $1000 and my vin is not covered. the info online states it should be covered. i pay my final car payment in 2 weeks and my additional warranty that i purchased ended in may. it seems this is a known issue and should be covered and most certainly should be recalled. it is not due to normal wear and tear. i have owned it brand new and after 7 years only have 30k miles on it. the vehicle is in great condition otherwise. braking issues almost led to an accident the day before and it shut off with no warning or lights from the vehicle in the middle of an intersection. what if we had been on our road trip and going 80 miles an hour? this is a safety issue. the issue was recreated at the family mechanic in a parked position but for me it was operational.

My brake pedal would be very difficult to press, causing longer stop times. this would happen randomly, but multiple times every day. for safety reasons, i had to leave ample space in front of me, and could not let my children drive my car. when i spoke to my mechanic, he told me it was the brake booster. ford currently has a "program" (13n02) for replacing the brake booster, but my vehicle is not included in the manufacturing dates involved. my vehicle was manufactured 2 months later than the the dates involved. i had the brake booster replaced on my own, and ford would not give me any compensation for the faulty part.

Brake pedal became very hard to depress. required extra pressure and increased braking distance. was told by ford dealership. it is a known problem. there was nothing i could do to cause it or prevent it. they replaced the brake booster for $900.00

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while reversing out of the driveway, the brakes lost power, which made it difficult to stop the vehicle. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the contact called quirk ford of augusta at 207-430-1600 (located at 7 water st, hallowell, me 04347) and the manufacturer and was informed that there was no recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

As i was coming to a stoplight in the city at about 25-30 mph, my brakes engaged for about a quarter of a second, then gave out almost entirely. i had to pump brakes and hit the emergency brakes to stop from hitting a stopped at an intersection. thankfully i brake early and stopped short a few inches. after inspection the culprit is the master brake cylinder.

Brake vacuum booster has failed. brake stopping effort changes with engine rpm. at low engine speeds, the car appears to have no brakes. no warning lights are given to operator to know there is a problem with brakes. ford has a voluntary service action (13n02)to cars built until march 2013, but problem still exist in car built in may

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 25 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed and felt extremely stiff. in order to avoid a collision, the vehicle was shifted into park. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred on several occasions. in order for the vehicle to stop, it was shifted into park or the ignition was turned off. the vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics who test drove the vehicle and informed the contact that the power brake booster needed to be repaired. the vehicle was taken to joe cooper ford yukon (1780 garth brooks blvd, yukon, ok 73099, (405) 354-1111), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to call nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the brakes malfunctioned while driving 40 mph. the contact had to depress the brake pedal with force to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to ditschman/flemington ford lincoln (215 us-202, flemington, nj 08822, (908) 905-0317) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted, provided a case number, and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 82,000. *bf *tr

Small tear in break booster. ford knows about this issue and covered a lot of vehicles in the customer satisfaction program 13n02. my car is not covered even though it was made at the same factory during the same time period of the ones that were covered. it was extremely dangerous when it broke and almost caused me to get in an accident. ford has refused to do anything even though this is clearly an issue. i found a large amount of drivers that have the same problem i do with their 2013 ford edges that were not covered by ford.

Brake booster. i have new brakes on my car but still feel like i can't stop right away like i should be able to. my husband has a ford edge 2019 for work. his car doesn't seem to have this problem. either does my friend who has a ford edge 2016. i can be in a parking lot and backup and feel like i'm going to hit onto the car behind me cause i don't stop right away.

My mechanic has informed me that my master cylinders are bad. that this part on the ford edge leaks fluid into the power booster which compromises the booster's diaphragm and is under a current recall with ford. i had my power booster replaced last october, because my brake pedal would become stiff and difficult to depress. since having the boosters replaced, i have the opposite problem. the brake pedal depresses almost to the floor before engaging. because the master cylinder and brake booster work in tandem, it makes no sense to replace one without replacing the other, especially since it has been noted that the master cylinder is the causation of the power booster's failure. i implore you to issue a corresponding recall for the master cylinder or ammend the recall on the power booster to include this component.

Brakes were not working effectively - spongy feeling and brake fluid was low. took into the shop and it was diagnosed with a power brake booster failure. did some research and this part is a known issue for the model and year of my car but not for my vin. technician was reluctant to let me drive off the lot as this is very dangerous. not sure why ford has only chosen to replace some of these parts that it knows are faulty. mileage is 72k.

Brake booster failure causing difficulty bringing vehicle to full stop. very hard pedal. i almost went into cross traffic, which was going at 55mph. i needed two feet to bring car to full stop.

Brakes are not working properly. when i push down on brakes it feels very spongy like there's air stuck in there. makes a hissing sound. i step on the brakes and it feels like the car keeps rolling. and i have to slam on the brakes.

There is a ford customer satisfaction program 13n02 2013-2013 ford edge, but my 2013 ford edge is not covered. now i am having problems with the brake booster and ford will not help me. i have 125,000 miles, so should be covered, but ford says no. the brake booster on my edge is the same one covered by the program, and it's now bad, and needs to be replaced. i hope you help with this problem. when driving it has no brakes, or very little brakes.

Starting a few months ago, the brake pedal on our 2013 ford edge went very soft upon braking making the vehicle very difficult to safely stop. took the car to the ford dealer and they could find no issues as the problem seemed to resolve itself. the brake issue reoccurred again, but, again the dealer could find nothing as it resolved itself. last week the issue occurred again. this time, the dealer finally diagnosed the fix as a new master cylinder and brake booster; they are currently making the repairs at a cost of approximately $2,300 (won't have the final cost until i pick it up next week). this is my wife's vehicle and all of the failure occurrences were when she was operating the vehicle. she clearly states that her safety was severely compromised with each occurrence as the vehicle was extremely difficult to safely stop. additionally, was told by the dealer that although this issue for this model year have been recalled by ford, our vehicle is not covered. with all of the occurrences of this very important safety issue ford motor needs to cover the cost of the repairs. a full and complete recall needs to be issued because the vehicle's driver as well as the driving public is at risk of injury and even death especially since the problem is intermittent and when it does occur is a complete surprise to the driver.

Vehicle has been in for brake repair numerous times. last was master cylinder. most recent is brakes going to floor with air sound coming from inside. local dealer is always booked 2 weeks. i do have extended warranty & have spent a fortune on deductibles for brake issues. i travel for work in all types of mountainous conditions. after reading there are 144 complaints on 2013 model this is definitely a dangerous issue. needs recall.

2013 ford edge brake booster issue. mileage 119,000. starting hearing a hissing sound coming from the brake pedal and the brakes became very resistant. after having it looked at, it was determined that the brake booster was bad and that this was a known problem with this year vehicle. after checking further i discovered there was a recall for my make/model/year vehicle but that only cars made at certain assembly plants were included in this recall and my car wasn't one of them. i called ford customer care who created a case # for me and set me up with the service manager at my dealership to further investigate this issue. the dealership determined the issue with my car was identical as those that were previously recalled and submitted this claim back to ford customer care as being a valid issue to be repaired. ford customer care sent a response back to the dealership stating that since my vehicle wasn't included in the recall they would not be able to offer any help through ford loyalty or ford assistance on my repairs. the dealership had told me that ford had in the past agreed to pay some that weren't on the recall list but denied others and they weren't sure why. that is really upsetting....who determines who they say yes to and who they turn away? why even assign a case # and set you up with a dealership for repair if they are knowingly going to deny you? my family is a huge ford family. that is the only type of vehicle we ever purchase. we've shown decades of customer loyalty to their brand and my husband has been looking to purchase another vehicle as we speak...but this issue and being denied assistance for an issue that is well documented all over the country is giving us no choice but to look outside of ford at other manufacturers for the first time ever. this has disappointed our entire family and cost ford a lot more than the cost of this repair!!!

Driving on a secondary road and needed to stop. pushed on brake pedal and pedal felt soft and traveled nearly to the floor. felt as if a fluid line had burst allowing fluid to spray out. no fluid was lost or visible leaks. after vehicle had set for about an hour, brake pedal came back to normal. this is second time this has happened. first time was in january, second time may. local ford dealer can not find any faults or problem.

While driving my ford edge i applied my brakes. the brakes became very non responsive.. i had to press the brakes all the way to the floor before they responded. i checked the brake fluid level and it was okay. i than began reading and discovered ford has a known issue with the diaphragm in the brake booster. this is a serious safety concern for everyone on the road because it happens without warning.we just completed a 1000 mile trip and now face a huge repair bill for a known defective ford part plus loss of vehicle.

Brake booster failed causing serious decline in braking distance to a point where i felt the car was unsafe to drive. i almost got in an accident because of this. in my opinion this is a part that should never fail. vehicle was in motion and almost rear ended someone because of the braking distance was increased by a large amount.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving 45 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. the contact mentioned that the emergency brakes were engaged to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. in august of 2018, the vehicle was taken to marshal mize ford (5348 tn-153, hixson, tn 37343, (423) 875-2023) where they repaired the brake booster. the vehicle was towed back to the same dealer for the recent failure and the contact was informed that the hydraulic control braking unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was currently waiting to be repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000.

While driving my ford edge, i began hearing a hissing noise inside the cabin as i applied my brakes. the brakes became very non responsive and i nearly slammed into the vehicle in front of me when trying to stop. i had to press the brakes all the way to the floor before they responded. i first checked the brake fluid level and it was okay. i than began reading and discovered ford has a known issue with the diaphragm in the brake booster. this is a serious safety concern for everyone on the road because it happens without warning.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the brake pedal felt spongy and traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the contact heard an abnormal, intermittent noise when the failure occurred. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not included in extended warranty coverage number: 13n02 (brake booster ' 2010-2013 ford edge & lincoln mkx). veterans ford (3724 veterans memorial blvd, metairie, la 70002, (504) 887-8410) indicated that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was at the dealer awaiting further diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was not available.

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. no rhyme or reason except each of the handful of times it's done this (several random weeks apart)i seem to always be lucky enough to be going a low speed (less than 40 mph) very scary feeling when one doesn't stop as expected. each time had occurred when attempting a complete stop on city street.

Defective brake booster recall. brake petal started going to the floor making it hard to stop

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the brake pedal was applied, but was stiff and the vehicle failed to respond. additionally, while the vehicle was on an incline, the brake pedal was applied and the vehicle rolled. there was also an abnormal hissing noise emerging from the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called bob tomes ford (950 s central expy, mckinney, tx 75071, (888) 485-3971) and was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas 21714536. the vehicle was not covered under customer satisfaction program number: 13n02. the failure mileage was 76,000.

The brakes become very soft and go all the way to the floor. they will work but in a very delayed fashion. i've been to two different dealers and one said rust/dust in them and the other one said nothing is wrong after i even purchased new brakes. 3 ford edge vehicles in my family and all three are experiencing the same u known safety issue

I have attached a .pdf file containing a letter written to ford motor company referencing this complaint.

The "service advance track" warning light came on display. ford dealership diagnosed that the abs module had to be replaced and reprogrammed. they said the vehicle is dangerous to drive until serviced. the dealership said the replacement part was not available and would take months to arrive. they said several other vehicles (in that and in other dealerships) were awaiting for the same abs module replacement.

Anti-lock electronic control and module.a month after ford change my brakes booster, the same problem started again, now they said is the anti-lock eectronic control and module. been waiting for 1 month for a part that apparently breaks more than usual and dealer tells me that they have around 5 more cars waiting for the same part that is not in stock anywhere. according to the dealer, ford is making changes to the module and they do not know when the part will be available .again.

While driving my 2013 ford edge the brake system on my vehicle began to fail on the highway. when applying pressure on the brake pedal the brakes became very hard, the brake pedal was depressed to the floor but the car was still moving forward. there was also a hissing sound coming from the brake pedal. i was stopped at a red light, the seat warmer for the driver seat was on, and the car lunged forward and then the engine shut off automatically. the engine light came on and indicated low oil and to place the car in park. i placed the car in park, turned off the key in the ignition. i then turned the car back on and the warning light was off along with the seat warmer. i have to believe this was related to the braking issue creating a possible vacuum loss through the failed brake booster system and increasing the rpm's. the brake booster system in my car was repaired (84,189 miles) at tires plus at a cost of $700 and the loss of my vehicle for two days. the service advisor at tires plus called a local ford dealer service advisor and after providing the vin# for my car was advised it was not covered although this is a know issue and a technical service bulletin / cspn1302 has been issued and amended with supplement #1. ford motor company needs to address this by either including/extending the current csp 13n02 or a recall to reimburse auto owners that are dealing with the failing brake boosters. this is a safety issue that is not going away.

When i hit the brake hard or brake over a bumpy road the brake pedal goes to the floor and squeaking noise can be heard. i took the car to the ford dealership for testing and repair and they said the problem is so common that the part is not available and on back order. while the car eventually stops, it is a hazard because if it fails you have to avoid rear ending a car in front of you that is stopped. this sometimes results in swerving off the road to avoid hitting that person. this is a manufacturer flaw.

Brake booster/diaphragm issue, known issue in other edge models. hissing noise when applying the brakes, spongy brake feel turning to excessive foot pressure needed to stop the car and, after stopping, brake pedal can be pushed to the floor. this issue first occurred during city driving and progressively got worse.

No set time the brakes fails. goes to the floor instead of stopping and it doesn't matter what rate of speed you're traveling. even after thinking ford fixed it i almost got into an accident because the brakes failed. ford fixed it by doing a flush, cost charged me a lot of money for nothing or they don't know what they're doing.

After hitting a bump, pot hole, etc. the pedal goes to the floor and is slow to stop, currently, the pedal goes all the way to the floor and is slow to stop, which from what i have read is a common problem, with the hcu and/or power break booster but no official recall has been issued. although this happened once or twice in december of 2018, it has happened twice in the month of june 2019 and now is currently not improving.

When pressing on the break pedal, hissing and squealing noise occurs. sometimes when pressing on break pedal, hard stop occurs rather than gradual slowing. hissing and squealing occurs when the vehicle is both stopped and moving. hard stop occurs when coasting/breaking slowly, hiss, then a jerk/hard stop occurs suddenly while driving. this happens on city street and highway. this has been ongoing for several months.

Brake pedal travels all the way to the floor during sudden stop situations and does not go back to normal. will self correct after vehicle sits for a few hours. after mutiple occurrences and attempted repairs traction control and abs lights illuminated. this helped the ford dealer determine the defective parts. this vehicle has been at the dealer since 11/9/18 and there are still no ford factory parts available. i was number 208 out of 228 on the back order list. an aftermarket parts was installed with out my knowledge or authorization and ford will not provide any warranty for this part. i believe this is a safety concern that should be looked into.

I have lost my brakes where the brake pedal goes completely to the floor twice while driving on a highway

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called whitmoyer ford at (877) 280-7292 (located at 1001 e main st, mount joy, pa 17552) and informed them of the code the independent mechanic found. the dealer advised the contact to call the manufacturer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

Brake booster for this vehicle needed repair based on symptoms matching fsp 13n02, and the repair was also an exact match. extended warranty coverage is provided by ford for fsp 13n02 based on a date range, but ford refused to acknowledge that the condition applied to this vehicle and would not cover the repair. i had this vehicle repaired at another shop (not ford), and this shop said it should have been covered.

I backed out of the drive and stepped on the brakes and the car didn't want to stop. the pedal was hard to push on. i had to stand on it to get the car stopped! i pulled back into the drive and it worked fine. drove it around the block and it would work and then not work. dangerous i was stopped at a stop sign and it stopped working and again i had to stand on the brake. i put the car in neutral and again it worked fine.

Brakes started becoming 'loose', would go all the way to floor with hissing sound. vehicle would still stop ok. mechanic checked because brake pads, rotors, etc were all fine. he said it was the pressure and he believed there to be a recall or extended warranty on the issue so he did not want to do. the brakes then started to become locked, it wouldn't go down at all and stopping was becoming an issue. unless you pumped slowly and then it did the hiss and all the way to the floor. i called ford dealership and they took vin and said our vehicle wasn't included. i started doing research and learned that many folks are having the same issues and are being told the same thing...not included. many. seems to me common sense would say that maybe the issue is bigger than we first realized. how many will be injured or killed ? and oh yes how many like us will have to spend hundreds of dollars on something ford should take care of. do the right thing and make ford fix them all. *tr

2013 ford edge. consumer writes in regards to customer satisfaction safety program 13n02. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle was not included in the brake booster customer satisfaction safety program due to the manufacturer's date. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. the driver had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to team ford lincoln (905 brady ave, steubenville, oh 43952, (740) 283-4131) and test driven. the dealer diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 104,407.

Brake booster hose has a leak. brakes hiss when pressed and get spongy. if problem goes on long enough without being fixed, the vacuum leaks into the engine causing rpms to bog down when breaks are pressed for extended period of time (ex. at a stop light) and car stalls out.

When i press my brakes my car will not stop i have put brakes on in the past 6 months so i know my brakes are good. also while i am driving it just turns off in the middle of a turn. also when i get gas it will never start right up it always takes me 3 or 4 times for the car to start

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the brake pedal became difficult to depress when approaching a stop. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vacuum brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact called planet ford 45 at (888) 501-9013 (located at 20403 interstate hwy 45, spring, tx 77388) and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 35,426.
