We have classified the 779 complaints from 2013 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
When turning key to start vehicle, "driver side door ajar" indicator light displays. while driving, same indicator light remains on, along with constant "door ajar" chime. after parking the vehicle, interior lights will not dim even tho latch is secure--- and security alarm is on. all of stated complaints impede visibility, and create attention and safety issues. dealer resolved same issues 16 months ago by replacing a 5-year battery with a brand new 5-year battery; now yet another new battery is being recommended by dealer. hard to believe that ford intended for customers to replace auto battery every 1.5 years, especially for a 3-year old vehicle.
The door ajar light comes on tells me to put car in park ..i do this and it still says door is ajar ...as i am driving the door ajar light is still on and the bell dings everytime i stop and take off again..if you manually lock door they immediately come unlocked...the interior lights stay on when you are driving...
The driver door ajar light will not turn off even when the door is closed. it won't allow you to lock the doors and the interior light will stay lit. when driving it will tell you to shift to park. even when you open the door and close it numerous times it still says door ajar. also, if you hit a bump or roll down your window this will randomly happen as well. i called my local ford garage and they said they never heard of this issue with the edge.
Driver's side door light stays on even when door is properly latched. the light will go away after opening and closing several times, but the light has also come on while the vehicle is in drive, going down the highway, and it refuses to lock as a result. malfunction was reported to the dealership, but they didn't fix the car. they believed we'd either need a new door latch or to restart the car's electronic system.
Driver's side rear door sensor door ajar. took to dealer in jc, ks $315 problem "fixed"april 2016. july 27, 2016, i put my mother's stuff in backseat and lock door. "ping and a plink" and something falls to the bottom of door. when i reach my destination, the door will not unlock. car was stationary.
In 2015 we took our edge in to the shop because the door ajar indicator would still be on when the door was closed. this would not allow the doors to lock going down the road and would have an annoying message telling me to shift to park as i came up to a red light. they said that they could clean it and that should fix it but that would only be temporary and that they would probably eventually replace the switch. again this month, july 2016, it has started again. the "shift to park" messages and not being able to lock the door and the interior lights stay on all happening again. from what i have read, even after they replace the switch, this doesn't completely fix the problem and that it will start to occur again after a few months. this needs to be a recall. the dealers are making a few 100 bucks from every person that shows up to get it "repaired". it is going off right now, as i type this, as my wife is driving and i am at work and she called me.
Door ajar light stays on and won't register when the front driver's side door is shut. lights will not dim while driving or parked, locks will not work properly either. battery is being drained because of the faulty sensor. ford will not cover repairs, even though my vehicle is still under warranty.
Door ajar, light will not turn off even with door closed
When the door is shut the door ajar light stays on, which then causes the interior light in the car to stay on. i have to open and shut the door multiple times to try and get they door ajar light to shut off so the doors can lock and i can drive. *tr
Door ajar light, when all doors are properly closed the "door ajar" light appears. when vehicle is turned off and secured the system still says the door is ajar causing the dome lights to remain on, thus draining the battery. if driving at night the system again keeps the dome light on while the vehicles moving making it hard to see out of the vehicle.
Door ajar sensor - while driving door ajar indicator comes on. it drains my battery while parked. this is the second time the issue has repeated itself on the driver door.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the rear driver's side door opened without being prompted as the door ajar warning indicator illuminated continuously. the contact stated that the 'shift to park' warning message also displayed and the vehicle would not lock due to failure. the contact mentioned that the 'shift to park' warning message illuminated while the vehicle was being operated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. the vin was unavailable.
My ford edge inappropriately leaves the dome light on, won't let the doors lock, and says there is a door ajar. this is a safety issue for my wife and kids who are the primary users of the car. i see many complaints about this and an issue that should be addressed
Door ajar light remained lit on dashboard as well as interior lights illuminated. happened sometimes once door was shut and vehicle still in park causing me to have to try multiple times to get sensor to register properly and would happen sometimes shortly after taking off and getting up to speed on city streets, or shortly after i would get up to 10 mph causing the auto lock feature to activate and door ajar light would illuminate. also was able to get sensor to register door would be shut and i would climb out the passenger side door and back in later, not opening driver door afterwards and would get door ajar light when vehicle was started. taken to dealership for repairs and was told it was determined to be caused by faulty instrument cluster. dealer replaced cluster and still had issue with door ajar remaining lit shortly after getting back home.
The door ajar switch is not working correctly, my interior and exterior lights stay on after i lock the doors, the door ajar chime rings the whole time i'm driving. this impedes visibility, attention, and could have adverse safety consequences.
Gear shift lever switch fails intermittently when car is in park but warnings say it is not in park.
Drivers side door ajar warning light constantly display. interior lights will not dim because car thinks door is open when latch is secure. and door is properly closed. very dangerous to drive at night because the interior lights do not shut off. i fear it could drain the battery dead when car left in park and off. numerous similar complaints. *tr
Drivers door ajar indicates the drivers door is open when the door is secured and shut. interior lights and chime come on. this occurs when the car is stopped and when it is in motion. this was never a problem with my 2007 ford edge. it is a wide spread problem that ford needs to step up and take ownership of.
Driver side door ajar indication when door is secured closed. while car is in gear the "door ajar" indication along with the interior lighting illuminating. at times the indication does not come on until the door auto lock locks during driving. this is an intermittent problem but needs to be addressed by the ford manufacturer. the random faulty indication takes driver's focus and attention from driving to solve the problem.
The driver door ajar is staying on even when the door is shut and verified to be shut all the way. the bell chimes and the interior lights stay on making driving the vehicle awkward and hazardous. the indicator stays on when the vehicle is in motion and stationary. this is listed as a common problem but yet ford has done nothing about it. cost to repair approximately $400.
2013 ford edge - door ajar switch has gone bad in drivers door. this causes dome light to come on while driving at night. my wife had trouble getting the edge back home at night because she couldn't see with the dome light on. searching internet indicates this is a common problem for many newer ford vehicle owners. the alarms and dash written warnings about a door being ajar (when it's not) is a nuisance and begin to try and ignore it. unfortunately, when it is ajar, you will not pay the warnings any attention. the night driving with the dome light on is the biggest safety issue.
The door ajar light comes on when the door is closed tight.(drivers door) this causes warning lights and sounds from dash display. the door overhead lights also come on. when stopping the warning system states "shift to park". constant ringing and display of this problem but the door is not ajar. research of this problem on the internet shows a obvious problem with these door sensors. this is a safety hazard. please force recall!
The faulty door closed switch and/or design is indicating the drivers side door is open when it is not. this issue is causing all the doors to remain unlocked while driving or unlock during driving if it goes off. this problem has been addressed by the ford dealership twice and now it is out of warranty they do not want to fix it. it needs to be recalled.
The "door ajar" light comes on all of the time which doesn't allow to lock the door and keeps the lights on which drains the battery. i have to take it to the dealer for repair ($500)
My door ajar light will not go off when i close the door. my car doors will not lock even manually which is a huge safety issue. my battery is also going to die due to the dome light never shutting off.
The driver side latch and door ajar sensor are defective. the car does not properly register that the door is closed. this forces the door ajar light and sound to repeatedly go off. this also keeps the dome light on when shutting the door thus killing the battery. also, you are not able to lock the doors and this is a safety issue with kids and with items in the car being stolen.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. when the vehicle was started, the heater did not work without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (sethwabley chevrolet in ada, ok) where the software was resettled. the failure recurred a year later. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 39,000.
Driver side "door ajar" alert remains on when door is closed. interior light remains on, draining battery. doors will not lock while vehicle is moving. if doors are locked manually, automatic unlock occurs immediately.
My ford edge has a door ajar problem which is very well known and should be recalled this is a safety hazard as you would not know if the door is closed or really open due to the faulty switch
Door ajar sensor failure. system would indicate door was ajar even thought door was closed. lights would remain on, and door indicator would chime everytime the car came to a complete stop. door sensor needed to be replaced at a cost of $585.
My car, ford edge 2013 has a problem with the driver door sensor which shows that the door is not closed causing the alarm bell to stay on, the interior lights won't turn off, had to have a jump start. took to ford dealer and was charged for repair. quite expensive for me to pay for what ford should be paying for. i understand that are quite a large number of owners with the same problem. also smell exhaust fumes when shutting shutting off the engine as i get out of the car. coming from engine compartment. understand this is also a problem for other owners. these factors together should be reason for the nhtsa to get involved and force a recall to review our groups problems. i paid $229.00 to clean contacts. new parts much more expensive. help us with this.
My 2013 ford edge vehicle door ajar light came on about a week ago. i can not get the door ajar light to shut off. it does not matter how hard or soft is shut it, it will stay on. i drive 20 miles to work everyday. it is a big safety hazard. when i do get it to shut off , while driving it will pop back on.. then my interior lights come and i have a hard time getting them off. i have 2 kids and this is a big safety issue for me. i see multiple complaints about this issue but no recall. the locks will lot lock with this light on. like i said before i have kids and this is a big concern for me.
Less than 24 hours after i purchased this certified used vehicle from a ford dealer, driver's door ajar warning appears while vehicle is in motion even though door is firmly latched. all doors instantly automatically unlock while driving. doors cannot be re-locked because they immediately unlock again. this represents an accident hazard because it allows occupants to potentially be thrown from the vehicle in the event of a collision. this condition is apparently due to a faulty door latch switch and is well documented by hundreds of complaints on the internet.
Drivers door ajar warning light comes on, unable to lock doors while car is in gear. warning alarm sounds telling driver to put vehicle in park., interior lights stay on. safety issue when driving car since you cannot lock doors children in back can open door.. dealer repaired at a cost of $ 305. this should have had a safety recall by ford
While i was driving my vehicle, i completely lost power. my car was driving on its own, about 2mph on the road, while everyone else was driving 45mph. this happened suddenly, and my car was not able to stop when i was at a red light. this was an extremely scary situation because while i was driving, my car suddenly stopped. the cars around me could have easily collided with mine, especially when my car was not able to stop until i was able to get off the road and put it in park. while my car was in park, it was shaking. i had to get my car towed to a dealership where they proceeded to tell me that i have a throttle body problem. this is something i never heard of. but to know that at any time, my car can randomly stop on its own is scary. i was told that ford is aware of this problem, but it has not been recalled. ford has a duty to make sure that its product is safe for the ordinary consumer. a breach of that duty is putting an unsafe product out there, aware of the problem, and not taking remedial measures. someone can lose their life by a car completely losing power on the road, and that life could have been mine. something needs to be done to fix the problem that ford is clearly aware of.
My rear drivers side door is closed and yet the door ajar warning stays on therefore my doors don't automatically lock when in motion. and when the key is pulled out of the ignition all the interior lights and the lights on my side mirrors stay on until i start the car again so they stay on for hours at a time, making every bulb very hot and draining my battery. i figured this was just more wear and tear but after looking into it it seems many other edge owners are having the same exact issue.

Door ajar light stays on when door is fully closed. this is a known issue by ford they even have a technical bulletin on the issue. many discussion on line exist about the same condition. these are not old vehicles. this is a safety issue and should be recalled. 1. interior lights can come on due to this issue at any time causing a blinding issue while driving at night. 2. unable to lock doors while in vehicle. 3. unable to know if the door is really closed properly. 4. three warnings continue to pop up continually while driving that engine is on, shift to park and door ajar. please request that ford does the right thing for safety and recalls this defective part.
The door ajar light was continuing to turn on, even while driving, creating an unsafe driving situation as all the interior lights come on and will not turn off until you pull over, put the car in park, open the door, push in the door latch, and then shut it again and again until the door ajar comes off. i had this fixed at while still under warranty. it started doing this again less than 6 months later. i was then informed that the drivers door latch is faulty and the switch inside is causing the light to stay on. it is recommended to replace the lf door latch at $445. it was "cleaned" according to the service gentlemen, but not replaced in january when it was still under warranty. he said it will do the same thing it currently is in about 6 months if they just clean it again and not replace it. it is a hazard while driving and a huge safety concern. i am unsure why it would not have been replaced originally. i assumed when i took it in it had been fixed and replaced, not just cleaned.
For the past 4 months the door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. interior light stays on. not able to lock doors while in or outside of the vehicle. while driving (streets or highway) the shift to park indicator lights up, the door ajar indicator comes on, interior lights turn on, all the doors unlock and the door open chimes are heard. this is a serious safety and operation issued with the passengers and vehicle.
