We have classified the 779 complaints from 2013 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Driver side door ajar alarm is always on. interior lights stay on while driving. hard to see at night. drains battery when off.
Fuel level drops dramatically, the fuel indicator will drop up to 20 miles per every mile of actual mileage. gas seems to be leaking and odometers will skip numbers.
Both front left and rear left door sensors show that the doors are open although its fully closed. therefore the cabin lights stay on and the doors cannot be locked. my 2.5 year old daughter opened the door while i was driving although the doors were supposed to locked. *tr
My truck displays "shift to park" when in park and the indicator is not illuminated whether the engine is off or on. i had to replace a battery due to this problem. even though the car is off the electronics stay on drawing power because it's not sensing the vehicle is in park. this problem is widely known and ford has a tsb for the shifter but no recall. i've had nothing but problems with this vehicle and will not purchase another ford again.
Door ajar light stays on even when door is shut. happens intermittently and unsure if door is shut. doors will not lock when door ajar light is on. interior lights also stay on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the front driver side door ajar and the 'place the vehicle in park' warning lights illuminated. the contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently and caused the doors to not be able to lock. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,000.
Rear drivers side door ajar light coming on when door closed comes on while driving, causing alarm and all interior lights to come on. stays on even when door is closed and latched. dealer says door latch must be replaced, even though door is properly latching. *tr
Even though i get in my car and shut the door the door ajar light is coming on (driver door). this causes the light to stay on and i am not able to lock my car doors. i find this to be a large safety issue. it is starting to do this more and more. i currently have to open my door and slam it shut once or multiple times to get the door ajar light to shut off.
Driver's side "door ajar" warning light along with associated alarms ("shift into park") goes off when closing the door. this warning also keeps the interior lights on, thus potentially draining the battery. backing up in the dark is impossible because the interior lights are so bright, nothing can be seen outside. my temporary solution has been to disconnect the battery when i'm parked for a prolonged period of time. my concerns are; will this be happening to all 6 door sensors, how long will these faulty sensors last, will they find a redesign for this sensor that lasts longer than 34k miles and what if the door really isn't closed? ford motor company has already recalled this sensor/module on other models (focus, etc) of this year. because there aren't as many edges on the road isn't a good reason to not want to make the correction for all models involved.
The driver's side door ajar warning appears even when the driver's door is completely closed. resulting in multiple errors within the sync system and the inability to turn off the cabin lights. this problem can occur while stationary or in motion.
Door sensor reflects door open 3rd or 4th time this has happened. doors will not lock and dome light remains on.
Driver side door ajar mechanism is faulty and will not read my door as closed resulting in being stranded with a dead battery. after being fixed it continues to reappear.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving 35 mph, the "driver's door ajar" indicator illuminated while the door was closed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing, but the contact was not aware of the results. the dealer offered a temporary repair, but the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that they could not assist because there was no recall. the contact was advised to return to the dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 27,000.
Sensor says drivers door is ajar when it is not in an stationary position. door has to be closed several times to be able to lock doors and drive.
I have an issue with a sensor on the vehicle. i have a "door ajar" light on when the door is closed. it is on the driver door and no others. i know this is a common issue with ford suvs and just want my vehicle down for documentation. if any further information is needed by me please email or call me.
My driver door sensor constantly tells me that my driver door is ajar even when the door is completely shut, causing the doors not to lock, interior lights to stay on, a consistent beeping noise alerting me, and draining my battery several times. this is unsafe.
Door ajar warning light will not go off when drivers door is completely shut. this causes dome lights to stay on until car is moving causing a visibility problem. doors will not lock even when locked manually doors will unlock by itself while car is in motion causing a child in back seat to open a door while the car is moving and possibly falling from car.
Door ajar light stays on and have to slam door several times to get it to finally go out. interior lights stays on until door ajar light is cleared and of course doors won't lock while door ajar light is on. this happens when the car is stationary.
Door open sensor remains active even when doors are closed. this is a safety concern because auto-locking does not function, interior lights remain lit and indicator lights/alarms do not shut off. this is an ongoing problem and can only be solved by repeatedly opening and closing the door until the sensor activates, which doesn't always happen. the problem started about 30 days ago.
The driver door ajar light stays on at all times even though all doors are fully latched. the interior lights stay on making dangerous driving conditions at night. the doors will not lock when the car is in motion. the door ajar bell goes off at all times, even though the doors are fully latched.
Driver door latch; door won't lock or stay locked intermittently; door ajar light comes on when the door is closed. when the intermittent problem occurs, the doors unlock, the dome light comes on, which makes it difficult to see while driving at night or early morning. the battery is draining-the door ajar light causes the interior lights to come on when the vehicle is parked. it will not lock from outside the vehicle intermittently. this started earlier this month an is becoming more frequent. this needs to be addressed now! from my research, this is a long standing issue with ford products. *tr
Drivers door ajar warning light on with all doors closed, overhead lights illuminated and audible warning as result of defective switch or associated electronic devices or other mechanical component installation,
Door ajar light stays on even with door closed. will not allow me to lock it sometimes. keeps interior light on wearing out the battery. problem is persistent.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while the vehicle was stationary, the "door ajar" indicator remained illuminated while all of the doors were closed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 89,000. the vin was not available.
Driver side door keeps alarming that it is not closed even if door is closed. i feel this is a safety issue because it won't lock the vehicle, the interior lights remain on while driving as well as the alarm which distracts the driver.
Door ajar light comes on when all doors are closed while driving, after exiting the vehicle. it appears to be related to the driver's door. i have to close the door several times and very hard. in fact, i have to slam it so hard i fear i may break the window. it is a tremendous safety issue. all the doors will unlock while driving because the sensor is not registering. this is my second time dealing with this matter. the first time it was covered under warranty...ugh! *tr
Open driver door. overhead light comes on. key in ignition. chime. driver door ajar notice comes on. rear park aid notice comes on. put in "r" i back up. shift to park notice comes on (overhead light is on). start driving. driver door ajar notice comes on. overhead light goes out. i drive to a stop light. (doors never lock). i put on breaks to stop. shift to park notice comes on. driver door ajar notice comes on. i arrive at destination. put car in park. engine is on (overhead light is on). take key out of ignition (overhead light is on). open driver door. note: if i use the fob, overhead lights wont got out. if i manually push door lock button, the inside overhead lights will only go out 3 of 10 tries. i have to unbolt the battery to make them go out. have already had to buy one battery. i cant lock doors at a stop sign which is unsafe. this is a daily constant occurrence. others are expressing same issues. this needs to be recalled. the door ajar first happened 10/9/14 at 32,156 miles. took to ford dealership. it started happening again in november 2016 and has more issues and now is a safety concern. i also am noting that i have gone out in the middle of the night and my overhead light is on inside the car. *tr
2013 ford edge recently starting showing "door ajar" indicators on my message center. additionally, this message causes a "shift to park" message on the message center as well. what started out as a random message is now a daily message and i have to open and close doors repeatedly in an attempt to get rid of the message. night driving is no longer an option as i am blinded by interior lights when i can't get the sensor to engage and recognize that the doors are closed. during the day i run the risk of having a drained battery if i can't see whether or not the light has gone out when i exit the vehicle. when the sensor doesn't function correctly my keyless entry is useless as well. i feel this is certainly a safety issue, ford even lists the door ajar warning switch assembly and lock lever assembly under "safety" in my certified pre-owned coverage guide. i am paying the $100 deductible to have the switch reset as the dealer doesn't want to replace something the doesn't have to. ford should just bite the bullet and issue the recall for this, they listed it under the safety category to stay it's not a safety issue is wrong. if the switch issue was the flip and the light warning didn't illuminate when in fact the door was open that wouldn't be a safety issue? i think not. i have always had fords, this used cpo edge is closest auto i had to new in my life, i have never had any problems with my other used old fords, i'm disappointed how ford management is handling this. ford issue the recall and lets get this done. *tr
I have a 2013 ford edge sport edition that has had issues with the door sensors showing that the door is a-jar. this started to occur shortly after we purchased the car in september of 2013. it has progressively gotten worse to where the dash panel continuously shows that one of the doors is a-jar, even when open and closing the door continuously several times to try to clear the warning message. this is a safety issue because we cannot be certain that the doors are secured properly and safely during travel. also, the doors will not lock while driving, or when the car is in park while idling. this is also a safety issue because the doors could be opened while driving, and the car cannot be secured while in park and idling. if a stranger attempted to enter the car while stopped at an intersection, or while driving very slowly, you cannot prevent the individual from entering the car because the door locks immediately unlock due to sensing that the door is a-jar. the picture i uploaded of the warning message clearly shows the driving speed while the door a-jar is illuminated. i wish i would have known this was a widespread issue with the 2013 ford edge, i would have filed a complaint sooner. i hope that ford will take responsibility for this defect and fix this safety issue. other than this defect i love my 2013 ford edge sport.
The driver side door latch has failed resulting in inability to lock the doors while the vehicle is in motion. additionally, as the door is not being sensed as being closed, the interior lights remain on along with the door ajar light. this drains the battery. the inability of the doors to not stay locked as a result of this latch failure is a safety issue.
Door ajar switch on drivers door malfunction. indicates door ajar at all times, thus doors do not lock while driving, interior lights remain on, dash tell-tail light and warning signal. unsafe condition exist because of failure of locks for child safety, during vehicle movement. also unable to engage vehicle locks and alarm system due to faulty switch, as vehicle does not recognize the door is closed. *tr
On 9/6/16 i had to have the left rear door latch replaced because it caused a 'door ajar' light to come on. when this happens the doors won't lock and the interior lights won't go off at the proper time. now two months later the left front door latch needs to be replaced for the same problem.
My door ajar light started coming last week and won't go off. i an positive the all doors are closed. it is very disruptive while driving, when the vehicle slows at signal lights, in intersections or in traffic the alarm comes on. also, i was in a completely dark parking lot with people and cars moving around and the interior lights wouldn't go off. i could not see outside because of the interior lights. the door locks will not function in this state either. someone could have easily gotten into the vehicle with me. help!
Takata recall - door ajar light on dash. front and rear drivers side
Drivers door ajar light stays on while driving , and the lights stay on 10 mins after the car is turned off . *tr
Door ajar warning comes on and will not go off. interior lights remain on and none of the vehicle locks will latch because vehicle believes a door is ajar, when in fact it is not. the issue began about 2 weeks ago (october 10, 2016). i was able to open and shut door to turn the senor off the first few times the door ajar light came on and that solved the problem...temporarily. at this point the door ajar light remains on, interior lights remain on when vehicle is parked and turned off, battery is drained due to lights staying on unless i disconnect the battery and doors never lock - not when vehicle is in motion, not when it is parked.
Ford edge 2013 problem with sensor or other causing driver door alarm to activate after door is shut. dome lights stay on; door is completely shut but message states that "driver door is ajar". message and alarm sometimes comes on when driving. sometimes takes several tries repeatedly shutting door to get alarm and lights to turn off. this should be a recall. problem has occurred several times in the past week. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while stationary, the door ajar indicator remained illuminated while all of the doors were shut. in addition, the dome lights would not turn off in the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 42,000. updated 01/25/2017*ct updated 6/28/18*jb
The driver door ajar light would not turn off with the door closed. this prevents the door locks from working while the car is in motion, including the rear doors where the baby seat is located. this could allow a child to open the door while in motion. also, the interior lights shine on the windshield at night making i difficult to see oncoming traffic at night.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was unable to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 72,000. updated 12/20/16*lj updated 12/22/16.*jb
Driver door closed switch fails regularly. warnings say driver door ajar and shift to park while driving. *tr
While driving car has complete loss of power.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar sensor warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was serviced per a warranty, but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the indicator illuminated after the warranty expired a year later. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
My driver door no longer registers as 'closed' when it is in fact closed. this problem has progressively worsened for a couple months. the problem with the door not registering as latched and closed means that you are unable to lock the door while the car is running. every time you attempt to lock it automatically unlocks it. at this point i have removed all interior lights (that stay on) so i can operate the vehicle safely at night until i have time to get this fixed. i'm just six months past the normal 3yr/36k miles warranty period and ford dealership is quoting a repair charge of nearly $500 to fix this issue. i understand this is a common issue and has been part of a large recall for other ford vehicles, but not at this time for the edge. it's a real nuisance. i'm concerned about not being able to lock the doors while operating the vehicle.
Suddenly the vehicle no longer registered one of the doors as being closed. it always had the door ajar warning on the screen and the dome lights stayed on and doors wouldn't lock while driving as if a door was open. this made it difficult to drive at night because all the lights would be on in the car. also, my 4 year old was able to reach and open the door while the car was in motion so i had to take the car into the dealership to have it fixed immediately before one of my children was hurt. the car only has approximately 40,000 miles on it and is well cared for but out of warranty so the repair cost us 474$ and i was out of a vehicle for two days. *tr
Car door sensor goes off while driving and will not stop in till i repeatedly shut the door several times. this is very dangerous as when you are driving the alarm goes off and puts the driver in sudden alarming mode and in need of pulling over quickly and at times not able. i bought the vehicle back in sept 2016 and it started 1 week after driving the car and continues. *tr
Driver side door ajar alarm continues to go off, my doors will not lock, dome light stays on which is distracting and unsafe, when slowing down to stop, alarm goes off to "put car in park", which is distracting. exterior lights and inside instrument panel stays lit up after car turned off, has drained my battery. this has been going on for 1.5 years.
After approximately 60,000 miles the drivers side door will not lock and the "door ajar' warning light and alarm will sound continually. the vehicle can be driven, but only in an unlocked condition while listening to the warning chimes and flashing dash lights. the condition often lasts a week or so, goes away for some time and then returns.
Door ajar light for drivers door will intermittently stay on when door is closed. as a result the overhead lights go on obstructing drivers vision at night. additionally it is impossible to lock the doors when this condition exists. when driving an irritating message comes on saying to shift to park and close door which are already closed. this appears to be a bad design flaw which creates a dangerous situation for occupants of the vehicle. the dealerships charge somewhere in the neighborhood of $450.00 to replace assembly which in some cases still does not correct the problem. this is a safety issue that ford needs to address in a recall.
I have been dealing with this door latch sensor issue for the duration of my ownership on my ford edge. i don't see how it is possible that our vehicles meet nhtsa standard federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) no. 206, door locks and door retention components. the testing for that standard would have been done in a laboratory, and it is apparent that contaminants out in the field are making their way into the door lock assembly and compromising the sensor - it is not a stretch to consider the latch itself may be deteriorating as well. there is no way to know if the door is fully shut. the interior lights coming on while driving at nighttime from the unpredictable sensor. i just replaced a battery 10/3/16, failed from the sensor draining it repeatedly, bought the largest capacity oem replacement i could get for it from from the dealer. while parked, even for hours and days on end untouched, the car will periodically sense the door is opened and closed (though it hasn't been), and the parking/convenience lighting will come on and go back off again.
