Problems with 2012 Ford Edge EXTERIOR LIGHTING

On average, the 2012 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the EXTERIOR LIGHTING and its various aspects after 58 993 miles.

Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2012 Ford Edge

I get ready to start my day as usual i go and start my vehicle (stationary) to warm it up, as i got ready to set the temperature in the suv i noticed the bottom touch panel did not light up. so i pushed the button to turn off the heat that was blowing and it didnt turn off, i tried and again and nothing. its to hot in texas with little children to have electrical problems that effect the air conditioning. i pushed other buttons to see if anything worked and still nothing, the hazard lights will not function nor will the electric windows. my family and i drove the vehicle to my destination afterwards i had the fuses tested they are good, but was told it is front interface control module. this is my only vehicle and hopefully a ford dealership can give a better diagnosis than auto part store.

When i am driving to work at 5:00 am down the interstate my interior lights will just come on. my edge has interior lights that won't go off door ajar is on the dashboard. late at night when my car is not in motion and my lights just turn on my home security system has recorded it several times and the car has sat off for many hours. my door ajar light is always on. for safety reasons this should be addressed by the ford company.

Door ajar sensor is failing. door ajar message stays on with door closed (driver's) making driving very difficult with constant warning beeps and dome light on (even at night). i have to open and shut the door multiple times very hard for it to go away. many many people have had this issue, and apparently it progressively gets worse until they have constant beeping warning, dome light on while driving at night, doors that won't lock while driving and the constant risk of a dead battery after returning to their parked vehicle. i've already had to buy a new battery due to the dome light staying on after parking. this is very dangerous and deserves a recall. the current fix apparently requires replacing the entire latch for around $400, every two years on average. this is ridiculous.

The driver's side door ajar is constantly on. i have opened and shut the door multiple times and even tried to do what some youtube videos have shown. dome light sometimes stays on after i park, sometimes goes off. i will have a dead battery and probably additional costs unless i want to pay $400+ to ford to fix this known issue.

Door ajar stays on

Faulty door latch sensor on rear driver side door. the door ajar light comes on when the door is fully closed causing the interior lights to come on as well. the interior light stay on even after the car is shut off causing draining of the battery. the door ajar light has even come on when driving. problem started over a month ago and has been sporadically happening

The door ajar sensor is always on. when i start driving the lights are on until i move a few feet. i am not able to lock my doors or use my remote start. it has killed my battery. when my car is parked and turned off the lights will come on and off randomly.

When i get into my car, close the door, and start the engine, the passenger door ajar sign comes on. it stays on, as well as the overhead lights, even if i shut the passenger door.

The driver door and rear driver door "door ajar" notification's do not turn off, even when the doors are closed. this causes the dome lights to stay on which drains the battery, and then the vehicle will not start later. this also prevents the doors from locking while driving. this is an ongoing issue and can not seem to be resolved, even after a mechanic cleaned and lubricated the door latches.

Battery drains due to some lights staying on as well as driver door ajar light staying on, although all doors are shut. these issues happend thus far when trying to park the vehicle and when entering to drive. the light will stay on during driving.

Door ajar light comes on and it is draining my battery.the ddor latch is defective

The door ajar light comes on when door is completely shut on the drivers side, it prevents from my doors from locking and i have children in the car. it has trapped me in the car, i had to climb over into the passenger seat and exit out of that door. it also drains my battery because the lights stay on in the car.

Door ajar indicator stays on when door is fully closed keeping interior lights on when driving causing vision problems at night. also will not allow doors to be locked when car is in motion.car has only 12000 miles and is in like new condition and has not been exposed to harsh weather conditions.does not occur every time but is becoming frequent.

Door latch won't close. shows that door is ajar and the lights on inside won't go off because the door looks as if it's open. it happens each time the drivers side door is opened. this has been happening for a few years. in 2014, i thought ford had fixed the issue and i found out today that they only cleaned it. having to pay $588 for a new door latch isn't good especially when there was a recall for several ford vehicles regarding this issue.

The "door ajar" light will not shut off even when the door is closed and this leaves the interior lights on which is a nighttime driving hazard. the dealer says the latch is defective and ford will not assist in the repair. this happens when the car is moving and stationary. due to the high cost (over $550.00) people are going to ignore the repair and then drive impaired. so how many accidents are required before ford is forced to deal with this issue? *tr

The driver side door ajar switch is not working which causes the interior lights to remain on while driving or leave lights on to drain the battery when parked.

Door ajar sensor ...this is causing my dome lights to just come on going down the road and tank goodness when this happened there wasn't another car near me because i would have crashed into them because it blinded me. also my doors want lock when this sensor is messing up. i have already had one replaced and now another one i think this is a major problem and ford will not recognize it.

Door ajar switch does not operate correctly. when door is close, it says its open and all interior light remain on. difficult to see at night and battery will run dowm

Door ajar light keeps flashing while driving even though door is shut. doors will not lock because the car thinks the door is open. overhead lights stay on while driving and while car is parked. can make the car ideal for theft and unsafe while driving down the road because the doors won't lock.

Vehicle says that the drivers side door is ajar but the door is closed and latched. causing the vehicle not to lock and the interior lights to stay on.

Driver door ajar light remains on at all times, not sure if door is closed all of the way or not, dome lights remain on as well. this happens while parked whether keys are in the ignition or not and also while driving.

Light comes on saying driver door is open, come to a stop starts dinging shift to park. car cant be locked at times, and will not lock while driving. ligts will stay on running down the battery if you dont turn them off inside the vehicle. this will be the second time taking to dealership, ford customer care has been involved in both instances, cost to repair is over $600.

The "door ajar" light continues to activate eventhough my door is clearly closed. the passenger side was previously serviced and now the driver "door ajar" is activated. the problem is the doors will not lock when "door ajar" is activated and i have very small children. very dangerous! i have recently discovered this is a problem with this model by ford.

Door ajar stays on on driver side.

The warning light that the driver door is ajar is constantly on, even though the door is shut. this prevents the doors from locking when the car is on, and when driving. it also keeps the interior and perimeter lights on, until they 'time out,' wearing down the battery. *tr

Driver side door ajar lite remains on even if door closed securely. door ajar light and signal remains o when car moving or stationary. in some cases when door ajar signal on the interior light remain on and do not go out in 1 minute as normal.

The dash warning light comes on indicating left driver door is open. started out as intermittent now it remains more constant.. started malfunctioning prior to warranty expired and i would slam the door shut and light would go out. became more frequent and now it stays lit most of the time.. very aggravating.

When i get in my ford edge and close my door, it says driver door ajar, have to slam the door 4 or 5 times, and interior light stay on and wont lock either ,faulty latch. its a safety issue, was stationary, then when i was driving it came on driver door agar

Door ajar indicator on dash stays on even when door is closed, dome lights stay on, car alarm goes off randomly. indicator will come on when vehicle is parked and in motion. have had this problem for approximately 3 months now.

Door ajar and latch issue -door ajar signal stays on when door is closed -interior light stays on -inability to lock doors while in vehicle -faulty latch on drivers side door -the dome light stays on and creates a night driving hazard -false door ajar signal prevents driver from recognizing a real door ajar situation -the doors will not lock which is a major safety issue

Door ajar light remains on when all doors are shut. system constantly advises driver to shift to park while driving and continues chiming that driver's door is open. doors will not lock, many safety features will not engage because computer believes driver's door to be open.

Faulty/failing door latch sensor triggers "door ajar" instrument panel and sound warnings while engine is on, causing doors to unlock, interior lights to come on, and continued sound warnings whenever vehicle accelerates. when vehicle is stationary and engine is off, sensor fault causes interior lights to remain on for 10-minute cycle that cannot be manually overridden (per ford). issue was addressed while vehicle was under warranty, but ford will not address it now under warranty or "goodwill" repair program.

The "door ajar" warning light will not turn off when the driver and rear left passenger doors are closed. the doors are closed firmly, but the warning light still shows the doors to be open. the doors are closed and locked, but the car registers them as open, and thus keeps the interior dome light on along with the exterior lights of the car. without no way to turn off the lights they end up draining the battery.

The "door ajar" light located on the instrument cluster stays on all of the time even when all doors are closed and fully latched. when the light is illuminated continuously, the vehicle doors will not lock which is a serious safety issue. when the vehicle is on and the door lock button is pressed, the doors lock and then unlock within a second apart. once the vehicle is exited and locked with the remote, the interior and exterior lights remain illuminated.

2012 ford edge se. i notice that sometimes it would show door ajared warning light. i would have open and close my door several times before the light go off. then it progress to the point now it's permernant. now doors won't lock while driving, interior lights momentarily stay on and the alarm beeps twice ( warning that the door ajar is keeping it from setting properly.

Rear driver side door ajar light will not turn off, have drained 2 car batteries, the alarm goes off at random and the interior dome light stays on. had to pull cabin lighting fuse to stop battery from draining. the indication is constantly on there is no way to tell in door is actually ajar or not.

Driver's door sensor is faulty. the vehicle's instrument panel will indicate that the door is ajar when it is firmly closed. this alert often appears while the vehicle is in motion. when i exit the vehicle and the problem occurs, this will prevent the interior lights from going out and it will prevent the security system from arming. this problem is distracting while driving due to the alerts and the interior lighting, especially at night. the issue has also resulted in theft from my vehicle. when the vehicle is off, the dome lights do not go off as the sensor indicates the door is open. while parked outside my house, my vehicle was broken into without the alarm sounding, resulting in theft of personal items including checks, cash, and electronics. the vehicle's battery has also drained overnight to the point of needing a jump start.

Passenger door ajar sensor is malfunctioning. system does not recognize hat the door is closed and will not allow doors to lock posing safety issue. also the dome light will not turn off due to the sensor not recognizing that the door is closed. even after repeatedly shutting door (over 10 times) the sensor will pop on during driving of the vehicle. done lights remain on after car is turned off which drains the battery.

The door sensor says the driver's door is open when it is not and stays on. this does not allow the door locks to close and is unsafe. the interior lights also go on and stay on for a period of time.

The latch door ajar dome lights stay on when the foo is closed

Driver door ajar when not. door locks do not engage while driving, interior dome lights remain on which drains battery and unable to drive at night due to this. major safety issue. can not lock vehicle from outside or set alarm all interior locks remain on and do not shut off

Even though the driver's side door is properly closed, the door ajar indicator light will all of a sudden come on and then the interior lights will also come one which is very hazardous if you are driving at night. also when this happens you cannot lock the doors which makes it not safe for children or adults with disabilities whom may be a passenger in the car as well. sometimes you have to slam the door about 15 times before it stops or it might not stop at all.

Door ajar stays un causing interior kights to remain on causing safety hazard at night and kills the battery. it happens when sitting in park and while driving.

1) "shift to park" error: have to click the shifter one or two times to clear it. until i do, the seat does not move back for exiting. 2) "driver door ajar" error: have to open and close the door, sometimes only once, but usually many times in order to clear the error. 3) if the "door" error is not cleared, the "shift" error will appear while moving, whenever i come to a stop. also, the audible signal will kick in. 4) at times the driver door will not unlock with the touch of my hand. i suspect when i shut the door last, the "door" error was probably in effect. service: i actually took my car to the dealer and all they could tell me was that the shifter had to be replaced for $500. they couldn't even find the "door" error. i think this merits a recall notice and ford should repair these problems at no or reasonable costs.

Drivers door ajar repeatedly comes on, dome light illuminates, message to put in park shows. called ford motor co. who reports no recall!! this is a safety issue as it prohibits door locking, turns on interior light during night driving. ford advised that they didn't know if this would be covered by my extended warranty. how can that be? all they could do was give me a case number if it ever turns into a recall. even if out of warranty, this should be considered a latent manufacture safety defect! leaves me wondering how many owners need to report much less be injured before ford takes care of it. i would advise all who have experienced this to report to ford customer service.

This has been an ongoing issue it started out every now and then. now its constant this morning ran my battery down causing crazy things to go on with electrical. the dome light stays on so at night driving is bothersome, and the door locks will not work.

Driver door ajar shows on dashboard intermittently. when attempting toock car, it gives a double signal as if it is not locked. lights stay on in the car.

The driver door ajar censor would not go off despite the fact that the door was actually closed. this caused my dome lights to stay on, the car symbol to stay illuminated on the panel, the doors to stay unlocked, and the warning tone to sound while driving. all of these issues occur while stationary and while in motion. i had the par replaced at the dealership for $387 and after one year and two weeks the problem has started to reoccur in the same fashion.

The drivers door closure sensor does not register the door being closed.the problem is intermittent. when this failure occurs the dash warning system indicates a warning to pull over and close the door. sometimes the interior dome light does not shutoff after the car has been parked.

Both the drivers side rear passenger door and the front passenger door closed sensors stopped working. the door ajar sensor is always on which causes the interior lights to stay on and the door locks to unlock while at highway speeds. this happens 100% of the time. the interior lights do go out once i reach 10 mph but there is no visibility when backing up at night making it dangerous for me and anyone that might be behind me.
