2011 ford edge purchased new. the door ajar indicator comes on when the door is closed. the interior lights stay on and will not go off when the door is closed. i have sprayed brake cleaning solution and also wd-40. this helps for a day or two. the problem has been reported to my ford dealer and nothing is done. the doors will not lock when the door ajar indicator light is on, and i worry about my families safety. very frustrating , since i read online about this being a common problem with fords and the ford dealer is ignoring my concerns. it seems that profit is more important than the safety of ford customers. very, very upset with apathy of ford.
Door ajar indicator stays on for driver side door which will not lock. doors cannot be locked while driving, interior lights stay on because of door ajar indicator which in turn drains battery. unsafe for doors not being able to be locked and lights continue to illuminate while vehicle is off and parked. *tr
Driver door ajar warning constantly on. requires you to slam the door sometimes up to ten or more times before the car will finally recognize the door is closed. interior lights will remain on which i am afraid will lead to a dead battery. *tr
First door ajar warning would come on,when you closed door it would go away.now it just stay on, the lights say on and the bells chimes. i see theirs a lot of complaints on the internet. please help!!! this is not in my budget!! thanks *js
Driving the blue ridge parkway in nc we entered the first of several tunnels along that route. headlight switch was in auto-on position as it is always. the headlights did not come on as we entered the tunnel as they do at nightfall. i hit the brakes before either running in to the wall on the right or (worse) crossing over in to the opposite lane. almost caused a rear end collision as there was a group of harley davidson's behind us. i fumbled with the light switch to turn on, not knowing exactly which way to turn it (as we don't use it since it is in the auto-on position all the time) last time i trust this. we will just turn them on ourselves. did try to allow the auto-on to work on next two tunnels but it did not. very dangerous ford. why? panic mode, and i'm sure the harley riders were not very happy either. *jb
I own a 2011 ford edge with the myford touch option. on july 22, 2013, i experienced an event that could have had fatal consequences. while traveling on the blue ridge parkway in north carolina, i entered the first of several mountain tunnels. when i entered the tunnel, i expected the headlamps to turn on automatically. they did not. assuming the lights were actually on, i lowered my sun glasses thinking the tint had reduced my vision. that is when i realized the lights had not come on. for a second i was confused. traveling at about 45 mph, my first thoughts were of the light switch location which i'd never used and was not familiar with. i immediately pushed down on the dimmer switch. wrong way! i then pulled the dimmer switch handle, and the lights came on. i had entered the tunnel moving on a curved path and had fortunately held the steering wheel steady as i reacted. when i finally got the lights turned on, the car was still pretty much in lane, so no danger was apparent. i had traveled some distance though. entering the next 4-5 tunnels, i waited until the last possible moment to manually turn on the lights, cycling the switch from automatic to "on" and then back to automatic as the tunnel was exited. the automatic feature never responded. later that evening after dark, i cranked the engine, and the lights did turn on. the lights have continued to work since then, except i've not had an opportunity to check the automatic feature in a daylight tunnel-like situation. if the car had wrecked at first occurrence with fatality, no one would have figured out the cause, and the investigating officer would probably have written up the report as carelessness on the part of the driver. i do not know if this is a chronic problem with the ford, but it should be addressed by the manufacturer, possibly making the light switch redundant. *tr
Multiple incidents after repair of door ajar switch/sensor will not recognize that the door is actually closed even though the dome lights stay lit and the car gives a warning.
The door ajar warning light will not go off even if the door is closed, which makes the interior lights stay on while driving which is a hazard at night time, creates low visibility, hard to see the road. also the doors lock and unlock sporadically because of the malfunctioning sensor. several people i know with the same vehicle have had the same problem with theirs. seems like ford is cashing in on the 600.00 repair to fix the malfunctioning light.... at the drivers expense, monetary expenses and safety expenses. not ok. *tr
2011 ford edge door ajar light and dome light stays on after shutting door. it ended up being the sensor in the front passenger door and front drivers door. the front drivers door sensor was replaced twice in 2013 and once in 2014. the passenger side door was replaced in 2014 and in january 2015. the door sensor issue started at 34,000 miles. we are currently at around 43,000 miles and the door sensors continue to be a major problem. replacing the drivers side door sensor 3 times in 2 years and the passenger side door sensor in 2 years as well should not happen, especially only driving 9,000 miles in those 2 years. something needs to be done about these door sensors that keep going out. ford has said there is no problem, but there has to be after all these replacements. *tr
The drivers side door ajar light comes on disabling the locking and lighting system. *tr
Door ajar warning light -the drivers door ajar warning will pop on while driving turning on the interior lights. especially dangerous at night. multiple reports of this same issue with the drivers door latch specifically on 2011 ford edges. extremely dangerous. also the light will not go off when the car is parked and that causes the battery to run down because it will stay on at lease 5 minutes after the car is parked, the door is closed and the key is removed. *tr
-door ajar signal stays on when door is closed tightly. never do i close the door and the door ajar signal goes away. it is always on. -as such, the interior light stays on the in car making it very unsafe and hard to see at night. -i have the inability t
Door ajar lights come on when door is properly closed causing a draw on the battery. needs new door latch assembly from ford, not covered under warranty should be a recall. *tr
The "door ajar" sensor has stopped working twice now (replaced at 32,000 miles and now not working again at 60,000). side effects of this include having the dome light stay on, not being able to use the exterior keypad lock to lock the door (a security hazard for people who commonly use that feature) and excessive battery wear. also, possibly the most severe hazard, the driver could get used to the warning, if not repaired, and not recognize when the door or another is *legitimately* ajar. ignoring the warning could cause potentially devastating results. *tr
Door ajar warning light will not go away when closing the drivers door and occasionally pops on while driving turning on the interior lights. especially dangerous at night. multiple reports of this same issue with the drivers door latch specifically on 2011 ford edges. in order for the door to close and not have the door ajar warning light come on the driver must loosen the latch before closing the door. even if one does this, it does not guarantee that it would not pop on while driving. extremely dangerous. *tr
Door adjar sensor is faulty. dome lights stay on while driving even though car door is shut. sensor thinks car door is open.
Door ajar light stays on. this causes all dome lights to stay on, at night impairs vision when backing up. makes driving very unsafe for first few yards, dome and map lights then go off. this is very unsafe and i have had one latch replaced. now another is doing it. ford dealer refused to fix it again, will cost about $300.00 each time. i feel ford has know of this problem for some time and should fix all doors on models affected, or find solution to having lights stay on instead of just the warning light. i'm going to tape over my map lights until trade in, and will not buy another ford product if they don't provide a safe solution at their cost. ...updated 07/30/15 *bf updated 9/23/15 *js
Driver door ajar light will not go out when door is tightly closed. this keeps doors from auto-locking while ignition is on. happened first time in june 2012, at 41k miles,4 mos after i bought certified used car. door latch was replaced by dealer under warranty. it has been happening again now at 85k miles, august 2014. also dome lights will not go out. battery ran down last nite, could not start car this morning even tho dome lights went out at some point. i was in north ga mtns where there is no cell reception. fortunately there was still one car at the site who could jump the battery or i would have been stranded there. i am a retired 69 yr old woman; it is not safe for me to drive without doors locked or for the battery to die when there is no reason for that to happen. there are many many reports of this problem on ford edge internet sites. why hasn't there been a recall by ford? are they waiting for someone to get hurt/killed? when i go to the dealership tomorrow, i anticipate a $400 repair estimate. i hope there is a better result than that. *tr
2011 ford edge the driver side door ajar sensor started intermittently and now permanently malfunctionsand warning light illuminates. this causes the automatic door locks to malfunctionand the doors to unlock. additionalythe interior dome light stays onfor extended times the inability to lock the doors or for the doors to stay locked is a safty issue, the dome light obscures vision at night which is another safety issue. i and thousands of ford edge owners would appreciate ford moter company takeing responsibility for this factory defect and safety hazard. this is not a factory warranty issue ford is aware of this problem but refuses to fix. i have searched the worldwidenet and found this to be a problem wit many ford models. please address this issue asap befor someone is mamed or has ther life taken. thank
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the headlights failed. the headlight assembly had a black lens that caused the low beam headlight not to provide adequate lighting when driving in rural areas. the dealer adjusted the low beam headlight to illuminate higher however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the low beam headlight was reset back to factory specifications and the contact was advised that there was nothing else they could do to correct the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 28,000.
The dome lights come on when i get in my car (or sometimes when it's just sitting in the garage) and they stay on because it says that a door is ajar but it's not. initially i had 2 doors replaced per advice of my ford dealer but it didn't last long before the lights were on and the message came back. at night it is especially unsafe because of the glare. the light eventually fades as i pick up speed, but until then it is dangerous at night. i have also had to replace and recharge my battery and i know it's because when i get out of the car, the light stays on for a couple of minutes before it goes off and sometimes i come out and see that the light is on in the car for no reason. as a result of the car thinking the doors are open, i cannot lock the doors, they just pop back up. very unsafe for a woman driving at night, especially. i have put up with this for 5 years and didn't realize i could report it here. i definitely asked the dealer to report it. it happened within the first year i got it, because both doors were under warrantly and after that, i refused to replace doors.
