We have classified the 10 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Driver door ajar light comes on when door is closed as well as while vehicle is moving. interior as well as puddle lights come on. frequent slamming if door to trigger sensor does not work. unable to turn lights off. prohibits doors from locking while vehicle is in motion. serious safety concern. *tr
The "driver door ajar" warning remains lit even when my door is completely closed. i either have to slam my door closed or open/close my door multiple times for the light to turn off. this week, the light has started coming on while my car is in motion, which freaks me out. due to the light coming back on even after it initially goes off, my dome light is staying on and running my car battery down. i needed a jump start this week due to my battery being dead. thank you. *tr
I parked the car and closed all doors and used the remote to lock the doors when i received the two beeps to indicate a door was open. additionally the interior lights would not go off. i checked all doors which was closed only to see in the dash the door ajar sign. the door ajar light now will not off off nor will my interior lights which is draining my battery. due to this the doors will not lock which leave my vehicle vulnerable to theft and while driving my child susceptible to danger. *tr
Drivers door ajar switch malfunction causing locks to malfunction. *tr
When the driver side door is shut, the drive side door warning light stays on. it will not go out until the vehicle is turned off. once the vehicle is turned off, the interior lights stay on for several minutes. we have to check the vehicle periodically to be sure they turn off. when vehicle is parked outside and no one is near the vehicle, the alarm will go off intermittently. this happens during the day and at night. it seems to have started after the driver side door warning light started staying on. our vehicle is out of warranty. when i called my local ford dealer, they stated they see the problem with the driver side door warning light a lot but there is no recall on it. the repair can be as much as $500.00. *tr
While driving the vehicle on the highway, the "driver door ajar" light appeared on the dash display while the driver door was fully/properly closed and all fours locked. the "driver door ajar" light remained on for a distance before the interior dome lights turned on, and the driver door popped partially open on its own which resulted in all doors to unlock posing a safety risk to the child passengers in the back seat and the driver. the "driver door ajar" light is constantly on, which in turn keeps the interior dome lights on and prevents the doors from locking and the alarm from arming. this issue is present at all times, while operating/driving and while the vehicle is turned off/parked which in turn causes added strain on the battery and electrical systems. the local ford dealer/service department as well as ford customer relations have been notified several times and refuses to investigate/inspect, unless they are paid a very expensive "fee". *tr
Driver door ajar indicator is illuminated when door is shut. door must be closed repeatedly to get the ajar light to go off. *tr
Faulty door latch, drivers door. door ajar warning light stays on when door is closed, because of this, the dome lights do not go off unless driving at a certain speed, but stays on when backing. this makes it extremely difficult and dangerous to do at night time because the lights blind you. the doors will not lock with the switch, you must physically push each door lock plunger down, which is difficult to do without crawling around.i replaced the latch the first time under warranty and now it has happened a second time only 13 months after the first replacement. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. when the contact closed the front driver side door, the door ajar warning indicator remained illuminated. the indicator remained illuminated even when the contact slammed the door closed multiple times. as a result, the doors were unable to be locked. while driving and reaching a certain speed, the doors would lock automatically and the indicator would dim. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
The driver door says it is ajar but its actually shut. and the key fob does not work to unlock the doors when you touch the sensor on the door handle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving at an unknown speed, the front driver side door sensor displayed a false reading and indicated that the door was unlocked when it was actually locked. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and repaired. three months later, the failure recurred. the contact mentioned that it was the rear driver side door that triggered the false reading. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000. updated 05/18/16*lj the consumer stated the driver's door and the passenger's door both failed. updated 12/13/2017*js
Passenger door ajar indicator intermittently comes on and requires several hard door slams to remove it. aside from being very annoying, this is a potential safety issue for the following reasons; 1. when the door ajar indicator is on, the doors will not automatically lock and cannot be locked manually, 2. the interior dome light comes on and cannot be turned off. this is especially hazardous at night. 3. i have been told the airbags will not deploy if the door ajar indicator is on. this issue has apparently been a problem for several years for ford and the problem has not been corrected. there are many posts and you tube videos addressing the problem. i plan to have the dealer replace the sensor, but i maintain that this is a safety issue and ford should fix the device. *tr
Approximately the "door agar" warming light came on. no big deal, right? no, wrong, when this warning light comes on, there is no way to keep the doors locked while traveling in the car. this is very dangerous, kinda like not being able to wear a seat belt. so the first time this "door agar" light came on, the car was still under warranty and the local ford dealer happily replaced the switch assembly at no charge. now the car is beyond warranty and the"door agar" light is back on and the fix is several hundred dollars in repairs. this is a big safety issue for ford edge owners. please consider a recall. thanks [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Driver door says it's open when it's not. *tr
Door ajar warning light comes on and stays on, door has to be repeatedly opened and closed numerous times in order to correct this issue. *tr
Door ajar indicator stays on for driver side door which will not lock. doors cannot be locked while driving, interior lights stay on because of door ajar indicator which in turn drains battery. unsafe for doors not being able to be locked and lights continue to illuminate while vehicle is off and parked. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while the vehicle was parked, the driver side door was closed and the door ajar warning light illuminated. the interior lighting remained illuminated when driving, which drained the battery. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it could not be evaluated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. the vin was not available.
Drivers side door ajar light stays on when door is shut. is a safety concern because doors won't lock and dome light stays on. problem is intermittent and is worse in cold weather. dealership complied with a service letter but the problem came back within months. dealership seems to be dragging their feet.
Driver's door sensor failed - car won't sense that the door is closed when it is. *tr
First door ajar warning would come on,when you closed door it would go away.now it just stay on, the lights say on and the bells chimes. i see theirs a lot of complaints on the internet. please help!!! this is not in my budget!! thanks *js
The front door ajar sensor or latch has been off and on not working. the light door ajar light comes on you have to either slam the door or open and shut it over and over again now to get the door ajar light to go off and the interior lights to shut off. while the door ajar is on the doors will not lock while driving. the other problem is the interior lights will not go off after parking the car which i am afraid will end up killing the battery. why has there not been a recall on this? there is a danger with the locks not being able to lock and the risk of a battery dying. *js
We went to get in the car, closed the door and the driver door ajar warning came on with the door closed. it does on occasion go off temporarily then comes back on. was told by dealership that ford has known about problem for about a year. if this is the case there should be a recall for the part. *tr
The drivers side door ajar sensors have been causing problems for the past month. they are covered under my warranty, however i have to pay a $100 deductible to get this fixed. the representative, john, said that ford has issued a notice about them however no recall. he said there are a large number of cars experiencing this issue... so i'm confused about why there is not a recall. please help. thank you! *tr
Problem: door ajar sensor my ford edge door ajar light comes on and will not turn off no matter how many times i attempt to shut the door. with this light on the doors will not lock and the interior lights do not turn off for a period of 10-15 minutes. my daughter and i drive in my edge everyday, with the doors not locking i find that this can be a very dangerous hazard. today we were driving thru the mall parking lot and a stranger approached my edge as if he were going to attempt to open the passenger door. at the time the door ajar light was on and all doors were unlocked, as the vehicle will not allow you to lock the doors with this light on. lord forbid he would have opened that passenger door and harmed my daughter. does it take a tragedy to happen before the manufacturer decides to deem this problem a legitimate recall..... i have read a tremendous about of complaints regarding this problem, how can this be transformed into a recall issue? what does it take to get ford or the safety board to resolve this?? signed: a caring parent *tr
The door ajar light has been coming off and on even when the door is shut. sometimes 5-10 closings will shut the door ajar light off. most of the time my door ajar light stays on. which keeps my interior lights on at nighttime. also not sure my car locks completely as the car honks twice quickly when i try to lock using the wireless locking device. very frustrating, and for the money they charge for ford cars, don't think this should be a problem. have searched the internet and found out this is a common problem that can cost up to $300 at dealerships to fix, and cheapest i have found is $85.00 to buy part from ford and try to fix it myself. *js
Driver door ajar warning light stays lit even though the door is closed. this creates safety problems at night since the interior lights stay on. this can be especially concerning for some that may be bothered by more light inside the vehicle and for those vehicles that have tinted windows. this problem first occurred with the vehicle about 29 months old and at about 39,700 miles. the door latch was replaced at that time and it is now happening again - less than 25 months later and in just under 27,000 miles.
Well known issue with the driver door latch failing on the 2011 ford edge. driver door will close and appears to be secure. however, the driver door ajar light will illuminate, the car will not auto lock when you reach the designated speed and the interior lights remain on for approximately 20 minutes. all of this results in a drain on the battery. it takes slamming the driver door to the point you are afraid that another issue will arise before you can get the car to recognize the driver door is closed. i took my edge to my ford dealer to have the driver door latch replaced. as i was out of warranty at the time this problem started, i had to pay out of pocket for the repair. i have requested reimbursement from ford as this appears to be another well known, widespread issue that ford chooses to ignore instead of issuing a recall. *tr
Drivers side door ajar light is on and does not go out even when the door is closed. this causes the doors not to lock causing a safety concern while operating the vehicle. when parked the interior lights remain lit which causes the battery to be drained and the car will not start. i had it fixed at the dealer under warranty just after 1 year of buying the vehicle new, then the 2nd time was 1 year after the replacement switch now not under warranty at this rate i will need to buy one drivers door switch every year at $400 a pop. i also had to replace the battery too. really! *tr
The door ajar indicator shows drivers side door open even though it is completely closed. it keeps the doors from locking which is a safety issue. this is a widely known problem with several ford models. ford should issue a recall for the defective switches. *tr

Drivers side door ajar light is on and does not go out even when the door is closed. this causes the doors not to lock causing a safety concern while operating the vehicle. when parked the interior lights remain lit which causes the battery to be drained and the car will not start. *tr
I was rear-ended at a pedestrian crosswalk by a teen texting on his smartphone while driving at the speed of about 40mph. the impact caused me to smash into another car in front of me. i wasn't injured because i braced myself for impact looking up through my mirrors. the airbag light came on as if they airbags were about to deploy on the dash board but they simply didn't deploy. when i was driving home the car started shaking as if the airbags might pop out if i hit a bump in the road. the car is now parked and will remain parked until this issue is fully resolved.. no more ford cars for me! *tr
Door ajar light comes on with all doors closed. the drivers door is the one affected. this turns on the dome light which can cause the battery to drain leaving a person stranded. also, it causes the brake and parking lights to come on with no one in the vehicle. the door ajar light also prevents the doors from locking with the key in the ignition. the door ajar light comes on whether the car is turned on or not. the dealer said that they have to replace the drivers door latch. i had ford repair this problem in the past. i have it in the ford dealer again today for the same repair. i've uploaded the receipt from first repair. my car is still being worked on at ford dealership and i don't have the receipt yet for the second repair. i think this should be a recall on this vehicle.
Door ajar light will not go off. car thinks drivers door is open, which makes it unable to lock and lights stay on in vehicle. i have already had to replace the battery once due to this. *tr

Driver door ajar light will not shut off but door is close properly. *tr
Door ajar lights come on when door is properly closed causing a draw on the battery. needs new door latch assembly from ford, not covered under warranty should be a recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that when the front driver side door was closed, the door ajar warning light had illuminated indicating that the door was unsecured. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the door latch was faulty. the door latch was replaced but the failure recurred. the contact indicated that the front driver side door latch was replaced multiple times but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 40,000.
The drivers side front door latch sensor is faulty, thus the door ajar light stays illuminated. as a result, doors won't lock and cab lights stay on. this is a safety concern because children in the back can open the door freely. ford has identified the problem with a tsb 14-0083 although will not recalled. ford serviced the vehicle and replaced the latch in 2013. problem has returned and lafayette ford won't replace again. *tr
Driver door ajar light came on when door was closed securely. occurred intermittently at first, but then happened all the time. repaired under warranty. around may of 2013 (out of warranty by a few months) the same thing happened. will cost $300-400 to fix. in the meantime, my doors will not remain locked while driving and the interior lights remain on for a long time before going off, using battery power. in researching this, it appears to have been a problem with ford cars for a number of years. having to replace this sensor twice in three years is unacceptable! *tr
I bought the edge brand new and when i was 1000 miles over my warranty my door ajar would not go off, so my inside dome lights stay on longer also until you hit the ok button on your steering wheel, then it will go off in a little while, i called the dealership and they wanted to charge me to look at it, i called ford and they didn't want to do nothing either. i have never had any problems with my door on my vehicles in all my life. this has got to be a recall, this is the manufactures problem, because mine vehicle was'nt even a year old and i had this, hope this helps to get a recall.
Driver door ajar light will not go out when door is tightly closed. this keeps doors from auto-locking while ignition is on. happened first time in june 2012, at 41k miles,4 mos after i bought certified used car. door latch was replaced by dealer under warranty. it has been happening again now at 85k miles, august 2014. also dome lights will not go out. battery ran down last nite, could not start car this morning even tho dome lights went out at some point. i was in north ga mtns where there is no cell reception. fortunately there was still one car at the site who could jump the battery or i would have been stranded there. i am a retired 69 yr old woman; it is not safe for me to drive without doors locked or for the battery to die when there is no reason for that to happen. there are many many reports of this problem on ford edge internet sites. why hasn't there been a recall by ford? are they waiting for someone to get hurt/killed? when i go to the dealership tomorrow, i anticipate a $400 repair estimate. i hope there is a better result than that. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the passenger and driver side door ajar warning lights illuminated. as a result, the doors failed to latch and the interior lights failed to deactivate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver and passenger side door sensors needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. on another occasion, the push to start failed to operate without warning. the contact believed that the failure of the door sensors caused the battery to fail. the battery was replaced, but the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000.
The driver's door ajar sensor stays on and you will have to open and shut the door several times before it goes out and sometimes that doesn't work. my first incident was when my car was less than a year old (early 2012) and i took it back to the dealer and it was suppose to be replaced. then in march of 2014, the same thing happened again. so when i went in for an oil change i explained the problem and they said that they would clean it and go from there. just 2 short weeks later it started happening once again so this time i have returned the car and they want to charge me a $100 deductible to do the work. i asked why because i have extended warranty and he explained that certain items are covered but with a deductible fee. this problem should be considered a recall of the car because it seems to be something that's going to be a recurring issue with no fault of the consumer. *tr
Door ajar light comes on, does not engage child safety locks. takes repeated times closing the driver door for the light to go off. vehicle was taken in once while under warranty, part was replaced. still have the same problem as many others do with this vehicle.
