We have classified the 10 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Drivers side door will not latch. door ajar light stays on and dome lights will not go off, even when car is locked.
Driver door latch has failed twice.
On feb 5, 2015 as i traveled down the road my sunroof exploded. i was driving 55 mph under an overpass that was under construction at the time on smooth asphalt, but it was lunch time and there were no workers present nor any equipment in operation. it sounded like a shotgun went off in my car. i pulled over and got out and looked at my tires, fine. my windows, fine. then as i stood next to my driver's side door about to get back inside, i heard splintering coming from the top of my car. i looked at my sunroof and it was spider webbing. there was a gap already gone at the front of the window. i went back to the roadway/apex under the overpass and looked around and found no rock or other item that i felt would cause such damage.
Driver door adjar notification won't go off even though all doors are closed. this prevents doors from locking while driving causing safety hazard. also causes the interior lights stay on while driving causing safety hazard at night. sometimes interior lights won't go off at all even after the car has been turned off for hours.
Door ajar light stays on with door shut. dome light stays on so you are blinded at night. cant lock doors so it is unsafe. started doing it at 19000 miles. ford would not fix it. looks like thousands of people have the same problem. *tr
The driver's side door sensor is not reading that the door is closed and remains on. this is the second time in a year that i am going to have the sensor replaced. *tr
Door ajar warning light comes on when door is fully shut, dome lights stays on and cannot lock car. i can open and shut it to turn off warning but then it pops on again. *tr
I purchased my car 9/23/14. my passenger and left rear doors continue to indicate doors ajar when they're indeed closed. this has caused me to replace my battery twice in 2yrs. extremely costly and frustrating! because the interior lights stay on, it's draining my battery!!! we as customers need ford to do their part as a reparable manufacturer and take care of this grossly defective part! i'm a woman and a mother, there's nothing worse than being stranded bc your door light won't go off, yet again drawing the battery. this is too dangerous! the doors wont even lock because of this issue. it's baffling that ford doesn't see this as a danger to their customers. at this point i won't ever buy another ford nor will i recommend this vehicle to anyone else!!
Ford edge latch door ajar dome lights stay even when door is closed. *tr
The driver side door does not close properly, sensor light reads door ajar and will not allow door to be locked. i have to slam the door a dozen times for it to catch every time i enter. lights in car stay on as a result draining my battery. safety hazard as i am unable to lock my doors. extremely frustrating & dangerous as i travel alone quite frequently. i am assuming this is the sensor in the door that is malfunctioning. this needs to be recalled so the part can be replaced & problem can be corrected.
Door ajar light stays on all the time even when door is closed all the way. interior lights stay on. now the back up camera says it unavailable or shows upside down. *js
Driver side door ajar warning stays on. online research shows this is a very common problem, and should absolutely lead to a manufacturer recall. *tr
I am having the same problem as everyone else with the door sensor. when i close the driver door the warning tells me that the door is still open. this leads to my dome light staying on , which drains my battery. *tr
The drivers side door is definitely closed. car does not think so. dash warning light is on. dome lights on. when using the clicker to lock the doors the horn beeps a couple of times. weird stuff. i do not know if this is going to cause safety problems or not. this edge also has back brake problems. the back rotors and brakes have been changed twice already due to corrosion. bad design. they get really hot and must be slightly in the braking position then until changed. winter in minnesota - salt and ford's better idea. one more thing: when we change the temperature settings the computer things we want air conditioning. this causes the windows to completely fog over under certain conditions. i have had numerous talks with ford motors about this safety problem. they do not get it and basically blow us off because of cost or lack of understanding. there are complaints filed. *tr
Driver door sensor states door is ajar when it is not. *tr
Had a door ajar fault(driver door). opened and closed door several times, would not go out. you can not lock the doors when this happens. this fault occurs each time we drive the vehicle. *tr
Door latch ajar switch light says passenger door is not close when it is close, interior light will not go off. and doors will not lock as long as it says door is ajar. *tr
Driver side door remains "ajar". (door latch assembly) locks won't lock, dome lights stay on, can't lock car and lights come on randomly during the day & night. i have been told it is an ongoing issue that could cost me $500.00. if i can't manually lock the doors, the kids can get out while driving. safety recall is necessary or trading in ford! i have to put tape over my dome lights so i can back out of my driveway in the dark...i can't see! *tr
The door sensor erroneously indicates door ajar. this prevents the door locks from actuating and allows children to accidentally open door when moving. also the dome lights stay on at hours of darkness, impeding visibility. *tr
After closing door, the dome lights and door ajar indicator on instrument cluster would illuminate. i would have to slam the door several times to get the dome light and door ajar light indicator light to extinguish. the problem is worse in colder weather. *tr
The ajar light comes on indicating the door is not shut. we opened and closed the door numerous times but the door ajar light stays on. this also makes the interior dome light stay on. the most recent event occurred when we were traveling back home at night. the same circumstance happened. opened and closed the door numerous times but the door ajar and dome light stayed on. it finally went off after 15 minutes of opening and closing the door. took to the ford dealer and cost me $500 to have the door latch mechanism changed. i googled and found this is happening to alot of ford automobiles. in fact, the service advisor said that 2 more cases came in today as i picked up my car. ford needs to pony up and do a recall and reimburse everyone for this high costs fix and design a better latching mechanism; "not military grade plastic". *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light illuminated on the instrument panel causing the dome light to remain on while operating the vehicle. the contact indicated that the visibility was diminished when the dome light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the door ajar switch was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000.
Just after the manufacturers warranty expired at 36,000 miles the "driver door ajar" notification came on and will not go out. this is an extremely common problem and well known to ford. safety concerns are that the lighting will not go out and driving at night is severely hampered and the doors cannot be locked while the vehicle is in motion. the no-lock issue is a major problem while having children in the car...ie, granddaughter. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while parked, the door ajar warning light illuminated while the front driver door was properly closed. in addition, the front and rears doors locked and unlock independently. the failure occurred constantly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the door ajar switch had failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000. *tr
Driver's rear door is giving the "rear door ajar" alert. the door is closed yet the alert stays on. it will cause the interior lights and the rear view mirror lights to stay on when the vehicle is turned off. i have been able to get it to go off by slamming the door, but this is getting to be a problem as well as it doesn't always go off and i have to turn the edge back on then click "ok" on the alert that shows on the dash. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the driver's door ajar warning indicator illuminated. as a result, all the doors failed to automatically lock. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the front driver's door latch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v643000 (latches/locks/linkages). the failure mileage was 130,000.
The "door is ajar" (left rear) warning light is on even though the left rear door is properly closed and locked. *tr
The car lost power. when i turned it off and turned it back on, it started and ran fine. it happened again and i took it to the local ford dealership. the quick service technician said it sounded like the throttle body. it has happened a couple of other times sporadically. it happened 4 times this past saturday. i took it to the dealership and just found out it was the throttle body, which will be replaced for $622.59. my car is no longer under warranty and there are no recalls for this that the dealership can find. though repair pal indicates there was a recall (https://repairpal.com/ford-edge-recall-10v659000) and the north carolina consumer council has filed a petition for an investigation into this matter. please investigate this as it is extremely dangerous for your car to just completely shut down on you while you are driving. fortunately, no one has been hurt any of the times this has happened to me. had i been on the interstate, i am not sure i could say the same. *tr
The door ajar light remains on all the time, elluding to the driver's door being open, when it is not. will not allow me to lock my doors when driving, making it unsafe and wearing down my battery. *tr
Door ajar sensor does not work properly on the driver's side front door. the sensor says the door is ajar, but it is not, and will not go off even after opening and closing the door several times. the interior lights stay on, which is a hazard when driving at night. *tr
Driver door ajar door is closed but warning light comes on whenever you enter the car. *tr
At the above mileage the driver door sensor started to act up, it would not let me open the door by touching the handle so had to use the key fob to open it. then when i closed the door it side the door was open so i opened it and shut it again, still the light didn't go out. this was a intermittent problem but has since never closed with the light going out. told by my dealer that the sensor might need to be cleaned and it would cost me $190.00. *tr
The "door is ajar" (left rear) warning light is on even though the left rear door is properly closed and locked. *tr
My door ajar light keeps coming on when my driver side door is clearly shut. looked up multiple forums and found other people with the same problem. why hasn't there been a recall? i shouldn't have to pay $400 for this fix! *tr
Door ajar will not turn off for drivers door. problem is intermittent, however more constant when it is hot out side. this causes the dome light to remain on. you can open and close the door several time and sometimes the warning will stop. makes driving difficult when it is dark out because of the dome light being on. *tr
Door ajar lights constantly on saying doors are open. lights stay on because it thinks doors are open. cannot lock from keyless entry pad. this happened about a year ago not sure of date that's why i didn't list. it is drivers door again and rear passenger door. two at a time! rear door is hardly used. very disgusting and costly repairs again . *tr
Driver's door latch reports door is ajar, which prevents car from locking doors when car is moving. other side effects - can't use touch-lock features, lights are staying on after car is locked etc. *tr
Driver door ajar error. *tr
Door ajar stays on after door closed. *tr
On the driver's door only, the door ajar notification remains on even after the door is securely shut. the door will not lock with that notification on and the interior lights do not want to go out either. also, when the car is off and the doors are locked, this, what seems like an electrical shortage, causes the auxiliary lights come on and off and it causes the battery to die over time. this has been the case since the car was purchased in 2012. *tr
It seems the door latch is defective as many edge owners have had this issue. the "door ajar" light comes on & you have to open & close the door to resolve it. after several occurences, it does not go off by simply opening & closing the door. *tr
The door ajar sensor ceases to function and indicate whether the door is open or closed, leaving it in the "ajar" state. by having it in this state, the vehicles locks do not automatically engage while driving and also the battery drains while the car is not in use. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the automatic door system was defective and would indicate that the door was open when it was actually closed. the automatic door lock system failed to engage. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the door module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 47,000.
The drivers side front door sensor does not work. the door is closed but it still shows on the dash door ajar. this does not let the doors lock while driving. i feel that this is very unsafe while driving also unsafe for my family to drive in certain areas of the city. i don't even know if the airbags will work. *tr
Vehicle does not recognize that the driver side door is closed. the door ajar light stays on, causing the interior light to stay on, and preventing the doors from locking while traveling. the dealership service department stated this is a common problem that requires the latch be replaced. *tr
Door is ajar warning does not clear even after repeated closing of doors. this causes interior lights to stay on and doors not to automatically lock when driving. *tr
Door ajar sensor stays on even when door is closed resulting in lights staying on.with the number of complaints on this issue ,ford should issue a recall. *tt
Driver's door ajar sensor was intermittent then went completely out. interior light stays on draining battery when parked. safety concern with door false alert masking actual door not shut condition. additional safety concern with night driving and forced interior light reducing visibility and risk to pedestrians. ford service will only lubricate sensor at customers expense to satisfy tsb-14-0011 causing no confidence in repair and possible re-occurrence of safety issue. this should be a recall and replacement of the faulty sensing unit and/or door latch assembly. *js
Door latch assembly- door ajar wont go away, door latch assembly has to be replaced. *tr
