Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2011 Ford Edge

Back camera not working properly, doors will not lock properly, fear for children and door unlocked

A warning comes up on the instrument panel that the "driver door is ajar." i will close it again and most times it still says it is ajar. once i begin driving the doors will not lock, nor will they allow me to lock them, they immediately unlock again. also the interior lighting will stay on when the car is not being driven and is stationary.

Front driver's and passenger's "door ajar" switch failed causing false indication of doors open, inoperative door locks and dome light to stay on while driving, and while parked dome light stays on causing battery drain. *tr

Drivers side door ajar light is on at all times. it prevents the interior lights from going off. which causes difficulty driving at night or backing up.it also causes the battery to go dead and locks are not secure on the door

Driver side door ajar warning light remains on and all doors will not lock until door is slammed repeatedly until warning light goes off. interior dome lights remain on also.

Driver door would not close. several occasions the door closes to a "thump" as the door latch will not latch to the body. i would have to reach into the latch, while holding the door handle open, to push it up to get the door to latch.

Without any forewarning, we were driving along and heard and felt several loud pops coming from under the hood. when we stopped, we found a broken windshield, the passenger side wheel/tire had collapsed into the wheel well, and the engine hood was pushed up roughly 6" above where it's supposed to be. upon initial inspection, we noticed that the passenger side strut tower, which is of a ridiculously weak 2-piece design, the 2 pieces had completely separated from each other. no potholes or other road hazards were hit, we were driving in a straight line. the approximate 9 spot welds holding the two pieces of the strut tower together completely separated. when the vehicle was inspected by 2 separate shops, both claimed that was absolutely no damage to any other suspension components, including control arms, ball joints, sway bar, sway bar end links, or anything else that would've caused the strut tower to break in such a fashion. several incidents of this have been reported online and references can be shared upon request.

Driver door ajar alert remains on all the time, even though the door is shut and latched and prevents the doors from locking with the automatic lock buttons and keyless entry pad.

At approximately 73,000 miles the 'door ajar' warning light began coming on occasionally even though the door was securely closed. reopening the door and slamming it seemed to overcome the problem, but it became more frequent. when this happens, the auto door locks do not engage once the vehicle is moving. the dome lights would also stay on after exiting the vehicle. there is a limit switch internal to the door latch assembly that senses the door latch position and triggers the warning light. this component can only be replaced by replacing the entire door latch module. the repair cost by a dealer is prohibitively expensive for many people ($500+). those who choose not to repair it will not be alerted if their door is not latched as the warning light will be on all the time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while operating the vehicle, the door ajar light illuminated although the doors were secured. when the failure occurred, the dome light inside the vehicle remained illuminated while driving. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.

Door ajar sensor stays on for driver's door, interior lights won't go off and creates a night driving hazard, locks won't lock while in the car and this is all because of a faulty latch. ford is aware of the problem and even has a bulletin out about in which i found in the all data system but won't do anything about it. labor alone to fix the problem was quoted to me as $300 from my local dealership.

Door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. have to open and shut door many times to get the signal to go off and the door to lock. i complained about this problem about 2 years ago to ford they did something and it worked now it is doing it again.

The driver side front door sensor is bad, which keeps the door ajar light on at all times, and keeps the overhead lights on for an extended period of time, which drains the battery and is also dangerous when driving at night. had the dealer "fix" the issue by doing a cleaning/cycling on the electrical part of the latch, but it only lasted a few months and now the problem is back. ford does not seem willing to address the issue as a safety concern - unsafe to drive with overhead lights on, and it drains the battery, which has caused other issues for me, including having to replace the battery well ahead of its intended useful life. *tr

Door ajar when door is closed keeps lights on.........hard to see at night.....drains battery...cant use door buttons to lock door......

The drivers door door ajar light stays was staying on at all times with the door shut. had to replace the door latch assembly to make the issue go away. potentially a serious safety issue if the door latch is malfunctioning.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the front driver side door open warning light repeatedly illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that all four doors failed to lock when the vehicle was being operated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 77,517.

Door ajar light started coming on for driver's side rear door. you could get out and slam the door and it would go out. this has been steadly getting worse. now anytime you get in the car, you do not have to open the rear door and the door ajar light comes on and the inside dome lights come on. i can say "ok" to the notice and the message will disappear but the small car indicator will stay on on the dash. the real problem is the inside dome lights will not go out until the car picks up some speed. this is a real problem at night especially if you are trying to back out of a parking space and the lights are on inside the car. i am not sure of the exact date that this started, but it has been going on for several months. i just picked a date below.

The driver side door is always ajar. the driver ajar light stays on at all times. this causes the dome lights to stay on at all times and run the batter dead. useless to purchase anew battery! also, this causes the security system to not work and i have tried the wd 40 thing and anything else that has been suggested to me and nothing works. battery is always dead and recharging and jumping all the time. this has been going on for several months now.

The driver's door sensor is malfunctioning. causes a hazard as the interior dome lights remain on (a nasty condition at night), and the doors will not lock using the interior locking control switch (nor do they lock automatically when underway).

My vehicle displayed the door ajar alarm after the door had been shut securely. this occurred intermittently for two days, and then began to occur every time i got in the vehicle. a couple days later it went back to being intermittent. i would not get the notification when i first got in the vehicle, but then the alarm would go off while i was driving.

Door ajar sensor stays on although door is closed and latched properly. the false door ajar signal prevents driver from recognizing a real door ajar situation.

The driver side front door latch isn't working properly, i will be driving down the road and all my interior lights will come on and a message will appear and it says my door is open, this is very unsafe because it has happened at night, it is very distracting to drive at night with all the interior lights and you have to wait until they go off, this issue has to be fix asap. i've read this is a common problem with the ford edge and many other models for makes.

Driver side door ajar warning light stays on after door is closed

Driver side front door sensor incorrectly senses door is open when it is actually closed causing the inability to lock any of the vehicles doors. dome light remains on when driving. the inability to lock any of the doors is a serious safety concern since it could enable anyone to gain access to the interior of the car and the driver has no way to lock them out.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the rear door ajar passenger warning indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the rear passenger door switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000.

Door ajar light remains on-vehicle will not lock while in motion-interior lights will not turn off while parked-electrical components drain battery as if the door remains open at all times even when the door is closed-needs to be recalled and fixed for ford owners as this is not the only ford vehicle with this problem-ford needs to stand behind their product and step up

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the passenger door independently registered as open when it was not. as a result, the exterior lighting remained illuminated while driving at any speed. the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to get diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000. update 01/13/16 ma

Door ajar sensor stuck on "open" for driver's side front and rear doors. as a result, dome lights stay on causing difficulty seeing at night, and inability to lock doors while in motion. also, drains battery and has stranded my wife multiple times. repair is very costly and as i understand it, the replacement part is just as susceptible to the problem as the original equipment. ford needs to be responsible for this inherent defect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. when the vehicle was started, the door ajar warning light illuminated indicating that the rear driver side door was open. the contact stated that the door was closed; however, the warning indicator continued to illuminate and the interior dome lights were illuminated. the dome lights would turn off after driving approximately one minute. the failure recurred every time the vehicle was started. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 74,311.

Door latch & latch issue. while driving and while the car is parked the door adjar signal stays on when door is closed; interior lights stays on; inability to lock doors while in vehicle; and faulty latch. this started getting worse around june 2015. i went to the nearest ford dealership to have is checked out, but they told me that not recall was made on my type of car and that they was aware of the issues my my type of vechile. they were willing to fix it, but it would cost me $450 -$550 out of pocket.

Door latch fails so door ajar light stays on, along with inside dome lights. dome light stay on when driving causing difficulty in driving at night. this is a repeated failure. cost $149 to fix jan 2015, now has failed again

Driver door ajar alarm is activated even though door is closed. this won't allow the doors to lock automaticaly while the car is in motion. not covered under warranty

The door ajar switch no long senses that the door is closed resulting in a constant alarm on the dash board and the inability to lock the doors, potentially dangerous for children in the rear seat. *tr

The driver's side door continues to have a "door ajar" warning light on even when the door is closed. this causes the interior lights to stay on and then system to "bing" about the door being open when it is clearly closed. not to mention the doors won't lock because of it and i don't know if the door is ever truly open or if the air bag will deploy. this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed and fixing the issue should not cost owners $500!! *tr

The rear driver's side door has a bad sensor. it does not recognize the door as being closed unless the door is opened/closed numerous times, sometimes it will not ever recognize the closure. *tr
