We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Switch on shifter that tells the computer whether the car is in park or running malfunctioned. component requires replacement of the entire shifter and has the ability to cause the vehicle not to start since it never registers that it is in part when stopped. backup camera linkage failure rendering the back camera inoperative. the vehicle was stationary but problem with shifter switch reporting the car not in park could result in the car not cutting off or stopping when running. to fix these malfunctions and failures cost over $900 dollars. these are engineering defects not owner related.
I own a 2011 ford edge. not long after the warranty ran out my front drivers door ajar light came on. my door was definitely closed but the light remains on. this causes the door locks to not lock the doors while driving. when i park the car the exterior rear view mirrors down light stays on, the interior lights stay on and some dash lights. i've gone out to the garage 4 hours after i've gotten home and found them still on. yes i had to replace the battery after finding it dead. now the rear drivers door is showing its ajar on my dash. this is a safety issue. i can't lock the doors with my grandkids in the back seat. i can't lock the doors when i'm driving at night or through scarey areas.i travel with my husband who is handicapped and i can't be sure that my car will start when i return to it. i see many stories like my own from other edge owners and i hope they take a good look at this problem. it's widespread, dangerous and an expensive fix.
Rear hatch ajar alarm goes off constantly during warmer weather. this causes dome light to go off and also unlocks doors. it does this while in motion. colder weather this problem goes away seems like
The engine died, as i was driving the car down the interstate. the steering wheel locked as i tried to exit and my car drifted into oncoming traffic. fortunately there was no accident but when i was finally able to get the car to the side of the road it was severely smoking and i had to get myself and my daughter out of the car immediately. also, the head gaskets and radiator blew and now there is a major electrical problem with the car the service department could not diagnose after 5 hours of investigating.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. when the ignition was turned to the on position, the passenger door ajar warning indicator illuminated. the contact had to exit the vehicle and slam the front passenger side door in order for the warning indicator to turn off. while driving at various speeds, the passenger door ajar warning indicator illuminated and all the interior lights illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 76,500.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the interior dome light remained illuminated. in addition, the vehicle failed to lock and unlock electronically and the door ajar error message displayed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000.
My door ajar light is constantly on for the back drivers side door. it causes my doors not to lock and my lights stay on. it has already ran my battery down and it causes my security system not to work. it is a safety hazard!!! i have called ford and they say it's not a safety hazard and there is not a recall.
Door ajar light stays on, door lock not working driver side
The dash indication light is illuminated at all times even with the door being closed. this is a safety concern because the other doors on the vehicle will not lock while parked and/or in motion. i have driven on the interstate with my doors unlocked and my interior light on because of this sensor. i hope that this can be recalled immediately.
Door ajar warning stays on while door is shut. the doors are unable to lock when vehicle is in motion and dome lights remain lit at night making it difficult to drive.
Driver door sensor shows door open and it is closed. light stays on and doors will not lock.
Door ajar warning. this is dangerous in a number of ways. the interior light stays on when driving off. when dark out, it's hard to see, especially backing up. also the doors do not lock since it thinks a door is still open.
Door does not lock and the "door ajar" light stays on. when i start the car, it seems to think the door is open when it is closed. because of this, when you try to lock the door, it won't let you. the dome light will stay on for about 30 seconds and the dashboard will read "door ajar". (even though the door is closed) this really became a problem when we were in a seedy side of town and someone came up to the car and we tried to lock the door but couldn't. the actual door opens and closes fine but because the car doesn't recognize that the door is closed, it will not let you lock the door. it doesn't matter if you are driving or if you are stationary. we do find that we can lock the door from the outside after the car is off but that doesn't help with the safety while in the car.
Door ajar light comes across the dash and drains battery. faulty latches on 2 different doors.
*false "door ajar" warning light on dash stays on when door is firmly closed* this causes: - interior dome light stays on - unable to lock doors while in vehicle - they keep automatically unlocking (while in any gear or parked) when vehicle is on - doors do lock when vehicle is off, when locking from outside - but interior dome light stays on as an indication seems to occur more frequently during colder temperatures, and takes longer to "catch"/for sensor to finally realize the door really is closed. this has been happening since i bought vehicle (used) 6 months ago, sporadically at first, but now every day, sometimes multiple times a day (possibly because of colder temperatures?).
I own a 2011 ford edge se. in the past few months, after closing the driver side door, the 'door ajar' light remains on. all dome lights remain on. opening and then closing the door can turn the door ajar light off. this began as an intermittent occurrence in august. now it occurs every time i enter and exit the vehicle. to eliminate the dashboard warning light, i repeatedly open and close the door until the door ajar warning turns off. this opening and closing can be anywhere between 1 and 15 times before extinguishing the sensor light. doing a bit of research led me to a faulty door latch sensor. this a very delicate looking switch accessible just behind the door latch. dealer estimate for repair: $175 for door latch sensor assembly and $300 labor to install, total: $475. ford must know something is wrong with this design. if i allow the door ajar warning to remain on, then put the car is gear and drive away, the dome light will turn off, and remain off for my entire drive.
Driver door ajar switch malfunctioning. consistently displaying "driver door ajar" when closed. this causes overhead lights to stay on making it difficult to see at night, also causes issues locking the door when exiting vehicle because it thinks the door is still open. this issue occurs everyday on most door openings/closings.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while operating the vehicle, the door ajar light illuminated although the doors were secured. when the failure occurred, the dome light inside the vehicle remained illuminated while driving. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,000.
Door ajar alert comes on while driving (car in motion) - doors unlock, overhead lights turn on. i stop, open/shut door firmly continue driving and receive the same message later in the drive. i have on several recent occasions received this alert while stationary. this is occurring off and on but now has become more common. the door is shut but the alert comes on at a variety of intervals and when in motion the doors unlock and the lights overhead come in which can be dangerous in and distracting. most recent occurrence 12/3/15
Door sensor, latch issues. known problem with ford vehicles. door ajar stays on which drains the battery hence the dome lights stay on. my ford edge will not lock, causing very dangerous circumstances when driving or stopped at a light in an area that is unsafe. will not lock while parked, in drive (on highway or road) or with the ignition turned off. i was over my warranty by 1,000 miles and ford customer service refused to help me, told me to take it in and pay for the work and service call and submit a claim.
Lights stay on after parking inside and mirror lights. when driving interior lights stay on til a certain speed but doors do not lock and door ajar light stays on. the doors lock and the door light goes off spontaneously. also brakes feel spongy and pedal feels like it goes to the floor.
On my 2011 ford edge limited i am having issues with the door ajar, like many other people apparently. i sometimes have to open and shut my door 20 times until my interior lights turn off so it doesn't drain my battery even more. the locks will not engage when my door is 'open' and the door ajar alert will stay on. this issue is getting worse every time i open the door and is a safety issue. please recall and fix.
Door ajar light stays on when door is not ajar. interior lights remain on after vehicle is parked and door is shut.
Door sensor staying on after driver door is completely closed. since sensor is on lights stay on and is draining battery when exiting vehicle. lights on during night time driving dangerous. has been intermittent for the past few weeks but getting worse. there are several reports on internet that this is ongoing problem.
The driver side front door sensor is bad, which keeps the door ajar light on at all times, and keeps the overhead lights on for an extended period of time, which drains the battery and is also dangerous when driving at night. had the dealer "fix" the issue by doing a cleaning/cycling on the electrical part of the latch, but it only lasted a few months and now the problem is back. ford does not seem willing to address the issue as a safety concern - unsafe to drive with overhead lights on, and it drains the battery, which has caused other issues for me, including having to replace the battery well ahead of its intended useful life. *tr
The sensor in my driver side door warns me that my door is "ajar" when all doors are shut. when this warning is on, i am not able to lock any doors in my vehicle (neither in motion nor parked) and i often travel with toddlers. the dome lights are also illuminated so it is almost impossible to see on the road at night.
Driver side door ajar sensor malfunctioning. electrical/sensor fault causing doors to not lock. results in lights staying on and depletes the battery.
I left my house in the morning on 11/6 and after a short drive the "awd off" and a "little wrench" light came on and the car lost power and just stopped in the middle of the street since i was trying to go up a hill. thankfully no one was behind me!! it started to run very rough so i turned it off quickly, waited a few seconds and restarted it. the car then ran ok and got me to work and home again but when my husband took it to run an errand that night, same thing happened to him and then again this morning when i was bringing the car down for service. this was three times in one day! with no warning the car just loses power and stops. very dangerous!! i'm afraid to drive my car now and i don't want to be on the highway and have this happen - someone is going to get hurt. the dealer cannot duplicate the problem or find a code coming up to reveal the issue.
The "my ford touch" system completely shut down, starting in nov. 2015. the system controls rear view camera and hands free cell calls among other things. the system came back on and again failed at various times through 2016. i had to remove the battery connection and reconnect , as directed in ford website ( key reset). it again failed in jan 2017 and finally it failed completely march 2017. i never received any communication regarding updates to the system. when you get used to the rear view camera system and hands free calls , it is a major safety concern when it is not available.
The door sensor is constantly indicating the door is open even when closed and sealed tight. the inside dome lights remain on because of this and you cannot see through you rear view mirror especially during night driving. in addition the light remains on even when the car is parked and you have left car. this attacks the possibility of a burglary. also while driving the dome light remains on because of the defective door sensor and the driver is constantly slamming the door to get the sensor to shut off.
Passenger door ajar warning began to come on in october 2015, even when the passenger door was shut. this has resulted in the dome lights staying on when i begin to drive the car. this creates a safety issue at night, as it has a very negative impact on my vision until the dome lights go off. when i park the car, shut it off, and close all doors, the interior lights stay on because of this problem. this has resulted in a draining of my battery. i have had to charge the battery on many occasions (6 times in the past week). this issue is fully responsible for me having to purchase a new battery yesterday, which cost nearly $200 installed. the battery draining because of this matter could be a serious safety issue depending on where i was and who was around when i needed a jump. finally, the passenger door ajar indicator malfunction prohibits me from locking my doors when i am driving. this is a significant safety issue. i have to travel three times a week into a city with high crime and i cannot lock my doors!! i have this same problem with the rear left door ajar indicator, although to a lesser extent. ford is aware that there is a big problem here and i feel they should be forced to recall these vehicles in the interest of the safety of the owners. it seems to be they could be liable in the event of an accident due to dome lights blinding a driver at night or if there was theft or injury resulting from doors not being able to be locked when driving. the repair is quite expensive and vehicle owners should not have to pay for this. this issue has made me dislike driving and owning this vehicle for the past year. please force ford to do the right thing and make them recall these vehicles. thank you in advance for your time and attention to this matter.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled, lunged forward, and the limp home mode independently activated. the check engine and throttle control actuator stuck open warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the full throttle body malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was taken to be inspected where it was confirmed that the throttle control actuator was stuck open. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 62,800.....updated 03-31-16 *bf *cn
Interior lighting stays on when in park or driving because of door switch malfunction saying door is ajar when it is in fact closed creates driving hazard when lights will not turn off and glaring off windshield making driving at night dangers please make a recall and fix this issue.
1. door ajar light comes on periodically at any time and doors wont lock 2. sync systems turns on and off while parked. outer lights turn on and off while parked as well and not at the same time as the sync system. the key is not in the car when this happens.
Door ajar warning - my front, driver's side door constantly states that it is ajar. this causes the interior lights to remain on longer than necessary, the doors will not lock while the vehicle is in motion and the door ajar warning remains on at all times. others have suggested using wd40 and lubricants to clean the sensor. i've tried this, and it worked for a few times, but this is no longer working.
Summary: while getting in my car i realized after i shut the door at still says door ajar on dash. this is getting worse becuse is not allow you to lock doors when you are driving. how is possible that this keep continue in the latest models also, what kind of engineers have ford that they can not fix this small issue that can cause big problems in a case of an acccident.
Drivers door ajar alarm is active even though the door is closed, this will not allow the doors to be locked while the car is i motion. this is the second time this problem has occurred within the last 2 years. the repair requires that the door lock mechanism be replaced...ford needs to determine why this lock unit keeps failing!
The door ajar sensor does not register that the door is closed.
Passenger door ajar alert is on constant delay. the door is closed but the sensor will not go off. this leaves the overhead lights on which create a visibility issue at night. this alert also prevents the doors from locking. once the vehicle is turned off the computer and lights stay on for another 10 minutes before turning off which also drains the battery.
While driving several times, the car would stall out. the awd and wrench light would come on. unable to accelerate or drive any further. i was almost hit by other vehicles twice trying to coast to the side of the road. took it to a ford dealership out of town and was found to have a defaulted throttle body. have noticed the same complaints about this problem online. thinking there should be a recall on this part before somebody gets seriously hurt. it cost me 647.57 to have this fixed plus traveling expenses to pick up my car and rent a car.
Door ajar sensor/warning will not clear
Driver door ajar light warning remains on after door is closed. dome lights remain on for 5 minutes or longer and creates a visibility issue when driving at night. the doors do not automatically lock when vehicle is in motion. passenger door when opened and closed also keeps dome lights on for extended period of time.
Closed door sensor faulty. causes interior lights to stay on, doors fail to remain locked while driving vehicle.
Door ajar light comes on and stays on and interior lights will not got out and at night time this is a real hazard from being blinded from the lights and you can't turn them off, also the door locks will not set because of this switch and other safety hazard. it happen about 1 month ago and has been a ongoing problem.
Door ajar light (drivers door) and interior light stay on, repeated closing sometimes shuts off lights
Driver's door ajar switch fails to register when door is fully closed, leaving interior lights on making night visibility poor, making locking the doors impossible which impacts safty both in the parking lot and during travel. runs battery down, stranding driver.
Door ajar and latch problem. * door ajar signal stays on when door is closed * interior light stays on when door is closed * door won't lock while vehicle is moving
2011 ford edge. consumer writes in regards to vehicle dashboard indicator light for doors issue. consumer has different vehicle with same issue correspondence in artemis. *smd the consumer stated the door indicator light on the dash remained on, after the doors were closed. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light remained illuminated even when the door was secured. in addition, the vehicle would not lock until after the third or fourth attempt. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was not available.
The driver's side door sensor is not working. door shows open, and the interior lights won't turn off. won't lock doors and several other problems. from all the feedback i've read, sure would like to see ford do the right thing and issue a recall on this problem. thanks!
