Problems with 2011 Ford Edge UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2011 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 63 185 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2011 Ford Edge

The passenger door ajar sensor remains on even when the door is closed. this results in the interior lights remaining on and draining the battery.

Driver door ajar light stays on! had it to the dealership to be cleaned. cost $200.00, less than 6 months later same problem. safety issues because of this; dome lights stay on until a certain speed is reached, doors do not stay locked while in motion. many of these suvs have this problem. very much a safety issue. ford needs to step up and be responsible for addressing this safety concern!

I was driving on the interstate in montgomery al at 60mph. it was not raining, roughly 78 degrees. i heard a loud pop & then glass showered down on me. the sunroof spontaneously shattered. there was no prior damage & it was not hit by anything. there were no cars around me nor did anything fall down on the car. a hole was in the middle of the sun roof protruding outward and it was shattered every where else. i do have pictures. the ford dealership stated they have had no issues with this however, i have found other reported cases. my insurance will be taking care of this since ford brushed it off.

Car stalled twice. previous complaint filed but i called after finding recall number 10s14. claled ford and they told me not covering my vin even though situation is the exact same happenings. your rep told me to file a new complaint becasue he coud not update the one previously submitted; odi number 10715241. he stated that they would investiage and psossible add my vin to be covered under this recall.

Door ajar warning light stays on after closing the drivers door. (in my case, right now the drivers door is the only door experiencing this problem. however i imagine any door with a faulty sensor will generate the same condition) this prevents the doors from automatically locking, or for that matter they cannot be locked at all. also the interior lights stay on. there is no way to override this. this is potentially a serious safety issue both because the doors will not lock and the inside lighting may interfere with visibility. from research, this is a widespread problem that ford need to address.

Please recall ford edge 2011 door latch. works improperly leaving door ajar and dome light on. this has burned up one battery. other ford door latches have been recalled.

The left rear door ajar light comes on and does not go off even when the door is shut. also, the interior lights stay on for up to an hour after parking the car, and for 3-5 minutes after starting the car. this is extremely dangerous when driving at night. it has also killed a battery already.

Keeping getting door ajar notice when my driver side door is closed. also, lights on the inside do not turn off when i am driving and take over 10 minutes to turn off when vehicle is turned off and locked. *tr

I was driving my 2011 ford edge on a busy road and lost all ability to accelerate. the engine jerked, then started shaking, wrench light came on the dash board. i would push the pedal and nothing would happen. had to roll along with flashers on until i reached a parking lot entry to pull into, as there was no shoulder on the road i was on. meanwhile, cars were speeding up behind me and passing my car into on coming traffic to avoid colliding with me. once in the parking lot, i turned off the car, and immediately turned it back on (less than two seconds later), and everything was back to normal. took the vehicle directly to the dealer and was told by their service technician that i needed a new throttle body and was no longer under warranty (vehicle had 57,000 miles). *tr

My safety issue is with my ford edge 2011 door ajar sensor. it's gotten worse in the past couple of months. the doors stay unlock, dash board warning display keeps popping up, door display stays lit and the interior light stays on which is hazardous at night. ford has had this problem with many of it's vehicles for a long time but does not seem to be very interested in fixing it or recalling. i called ford customer service division and spoke to angela keevis (regional customer service manager) to have ford handle this issue as a re-call b/c many of the edge models are having this issue. she confirmed that there are no recalls at this time and that ford will not be able to help out to reimburse the cost of the fix either and she was sorry at this time. the only thing she told me is to put my complain online. the only thing that they could do is call you back after you had setup an appointment with your dealer to have it fixed and to make sure it all went well. i do hope ford will take this issue serious and have a recall done b/c this issue could occur at any time. again safety issues are doors being unlocked while driving and interior lights stays on and it could be hazardous when trying to drive at night. does ford need to have a fatal accident before they could recall a known issue????????

The door ajar sensor continues to go off even when the door is clearly shut. the problem has gotten worse and now will come on when i am driving. also, the silver coating on my driver door handle is peeling off which has resulting in me slicing my finger on two separate occasions.

Drivers side "door ajar light" stays on which keeps the dome lights on which results in a dead battery. even driving the car the "door ajar light" stays on.

In february of 2015 my ford edge started to have issues with the driver door ajar even when the door was definitely closed which causes the vehicle to not be able to lock and stay locked, as well as for dome light staying on. i had the door shocked by ford and it worked for less than a year, once again the driver door ajar is happening and i'm unable to keep my door locked while in the vehicle and driving and my dome light will consistently stay on.

Driver door sensor not working and therefore all doors on car will not lock.

Drivers side door will not latch. door ajar light stays on and dome lights will not go off, even when car is locked.

Door adjar alarm keeps going off for driver and rear left passenger doors even when doors are properly closed. on this date, door adjar alarm went off for rear right passenger door. i ignored the alarm thinking the sensor had failed for yet another door. when i arrived at my destination, i noticed that the passenger door was actually not closed properly and it was a legitimate alarm. my 8 year old daughter was in th seat, and had failed to properly close the door. i completely ignored the alarm because for months the door adjar alarm had been sounding for the driver and rear left passenger doors. this is a huge concern, and ford has still not recalled.

On feb 5, 2015 as i traveled down the road my sunroof exploded. i was driving 55 mph under an overpass that was under construction at the time on smooth asphalt, but it was lunch time and there were no workers present nor any equipment in operation. it sounded like a shotgun went off in my car. i pulled over and got out and looked at my tires, fine. my windows, fine. then as i stood next to my driver's side door about to get back inside, i heard splintering coming from the top of my car. i looked at my sunroof and it was spider webbing. there was a gap already gone at the front of the window. i went back to the roadway/apex under the overpass and looked around and found no rock or other item that i felt would cause such damage.

After shutting the driver side door the door ajar light remained on. after shutting it again it went off. over the past couple of months the problem got worse and now the door ajar light stays on all the time. the door are unable to be locked, because they just unlock themselves because the keys are in the ignition. this is a safety hazard for my wife who works in possibly dangerous areas and cannot lock her doors at stop lights or stop signs.

While driving 25-40 mph, the car went into limp mode, no acceleration at all. "yellow wrench" light came on the instrument panel. i was stuck in the intersection, making a left hand turn across two lanes of oncoming traffic, and i could not move the car. the engine did not turn off or stall. i just had no power or ability to accelerate. i was finally able to roll into a safe spot, out of traffic and harms way. i turned the car off and waited a few minutes to restart. when i restarted it, the wrench light was off and the car ran fine. this happened twice, two nights in a row, so i had it towed to the dealer the next day. they were not able to find any problems with the car and wanted me to just take it as is. i mentioned that i had read about issues with the electronic throttle body, and they said it seemed fine. how can they allow me to take a car that is so unsafe to drive? i could have been hit, and the person that hit me could have been killed. i called ford customer relations, regarding an investigation on this problem, and they were required to do a "customer satisfaction program;. but my vin did not fall into this program. i paid to have the etb replaced, out of pocket, and am hoping that this is the problem. very unsafe situation to be put in by ford. *tr

Door ajar lights for both driver and passenger side doors stay on even though they are closed. result is that the dome lights stay on and unable to lock the doors while driving even though they are closed. has caused a drain on the battery, dealer wants a large sum of money to replace the latch even though it's clearly a sensor only.

after closing driver side door driver door ajar light comes on. this prevents the doors from locking. several attempts are made to have this light go off but it does not work. *tr

Driving along and the car lost power, wrench light came on. we shut car off and it started and we resumed driving. the next day it happened 5 times. called ford and they were no recalls but if you look on line there are many complaints about this issue which can cause someone's life! i believe this should be a recall by ford. i called ford and received a case number [xxx] the part (throttle) cost 600 to fix since it was not covered. i hope that there is no fatalities with this issue before ford recognizes it! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The car does not detect that the vehicle is in park and the "shift to park" warning continues to sound even though the car is actually in park.

The drivers side door sensor is defective and shows that my door is not closed when in fact it is. i have cleaned the sensor, sprayed with can air to remove dust, also tried spraying with brake cleaner, with no success. my exit lights stay on due to this defect, as well as the fact that my door locks will not lock because my vehicle believes there is an open door. after reviewing online forums, this is a reoccurring issue and ford is at fault.

Drivers side door latch faulty, was showing door ajar when closed which prevented doors from locking and kept interior lights on not sure if airbag would arm or not. was under warranty and took to dealer for repair and was told it just needed to be reset. dealer did not document the repair and when the problem started happening again a few months later i was told it would be $600 to replace the latch. ford knows about this problem and has issued a technical bulletin but has not issued a recall.

Tell us what happened: to whom it may concern: my vehicle does not recognize whether my door is opened or closed. i am always concerned that even shutting it may lead to issues because the alert is saying its not is not closed. will my door radomly open on the highway? if im in and accident will i be thrown out of the car? i have contacted the ford dealership and even put my car in the shop three. they gave a temporary fix and really said there was nothing they could about it and the vehicle needed to be recalled in order them to look in to the issue. my girlfriend purchase the car at the same time and she is having the same issue with not only her drivers door but her passenger doors which could endanger he children. please do something about this. we are afraid that this issue could potentially hurt alot of people

Driving in residential area @ 35mph. wrench light came on, car would no longer accelerate and was coasted to the side of the road. car was turned off and then back on and was able to be driven without problem. same event previously described occurred again.1.5hrs later. this event happened at a light that had just turned green and the car had to be stopped in a turn lane, turned off and back on, causing a disturbance in traffic patterns. at this point, the dealership was called and notified that i was bringing the car in for immediate service. the car then shut off again and my husband and i decided it was not safe for me to travel 25mi to dealership where car was purchased. we went to the nearest ford dealership,approx.5 mi away. in route to nearest dealership on interstate going 65mph the car shut off. i was able to get the car over on the shoulder to stop the engine.the area where my car came to a stop was right around a blind bend in the road. the car was restarted and i drove forward while still on the shoulder in hopes that i would be able to get around the bend in the road and be able to safely accelerate and merge back into traffic without doing so blindly. i exited the interstate onto secondary roads less than 1mi later. the car shut off 4 more times while driving to the dealership. one of these times was in the middle of a high traffic intersection which involved 3 lanes of traffic each way. my vehicle was serviced and returned to me that evening. throttle body was replaced,costing$693.less than 1mi from the dealership the car would no longer accelerate and came to a complete stop while in the turn lane of an intersection during high volume traffic hrs. it would not restart. dealership notified, their tow service estimated 90min wait. local police notified due to major disruption in traffic & fear of safety. waited 45min, then had car towed at my expense.

Faulty sensor in the door causes the car to think the driver door is open. door ajar light stays on and vehicle will not lock when driving! lights eventually time out but when inside the car, the doors do not lock! i have had it fixed three times now and it always comes back.

My door ajar sign won't turn off when i shut my door .i have had it to ford twice and they wouldn't put new one on they just cleaned it.there should be a recall they told me this happens all the time 2010-2014 models

The door ajar light on driver side door remains on intermittently. occasionally after repeated shutting of the door it will go off. the air bags are effected. i understand they will not deploy if this light remains on.

Driving getting ready to make a turn, vehicle completely stalled out, didn't turn off but i lost power. had no ability to accelerate. immediately put on hazard lights, put into park and turned car off. turned car back on and preceded with fear and caution. i had a similar incident at about14000 miles when i took it in for service they said nothing was wrong. i'm afraid to drive to work in the morning, if this happens during rush hour someone may be injured or worst. i usually have my grand daughter with me. *js

The "door ajar" warning light started coming on, intermittently at first and then continuously. bad sensor. when this occurs, the doors will not lock using the latch and the interior lights stay on for a time. the only way to lock the doors once inside, is to use the key fob. this can be quite dangerous if not in a good area. this problem has drained my battery on more than one occasion. the problem has been diagnosed, however, most ford dealers want to charge customers $215 plus for diagnostic fees. only then will they repair the problem. my car is still under warranty, so i still wind up paying about what it costs to repair it. (??) car part stores will run a diagnostic for free... this seems to be a chronic issue. when i researched it, tons of information about this specific problem surfaced. it seems ford will not issue a recall when it is so obviously needed.

We were traveling on a highway when all of a sudden we lost "power" but it was only the ability to go. there was enough traffic and lack of speed to prohibit from moving all the way over to the shoulder. we made it to the slowest lane (furthest right hand lane). the only thing that saved us from being rear ended was there was a sheriff near by and saw us broke down stranded and he helped direct traffic around us for our safety. we were in an unpopulated area and had no resources for some one to come get us or know which towing company could help us, along with knowing a trusted mechanic out where we were. my car is less than 4 years old, this should not be happening. when we finally made it home out of sheer luck, we did lots of research on what the problem could be and found millions had the same problem with their fords. i love the company but i never end been so stressed out and scared for my children's safety. i bought this vehicle to be safe and it had failed me. like i said, i could be marking this form differently if the officer didn't protect us. the part was not cheap along with the labor. with so many other people breaking down for the same reason, i am shocked and appalled that there hasn't been a recall for this yet. i urge you to change that and keep the roads safe for all drivers. since the affected part doesn't have my specific part, it was the throttle body and even my mechanics said ford has never had a good one. wish i would of know that before purchasing my vehicle. *js

I have had the vehicle for 6 months, in april 2014 the first incident occurred when the car overheated on 3 different occasions and emptied all the antifreeze on the third time. brought the car to the dealer, dealer found no error codes and let the vehicle run for 4 hrs with the a/c on and found nothing to be wrong. a few weeks later i was driving down the road and the car just shut down, luckily i was driving in a construction zone and was only going about 35 mph. i was able to coast to the side of the road and let the car sit for a few minutes. restarted car and continued home. also, the car has died while 5 more times since then while sitting in a drive through for a few minutes. and finally yesterday, the car just stopped 4 times within a 2 mile period. very frustrated and afraid that this will happen when i am traveling on the highway and possible get rear ended or killed. *js

The door latch switch is a constant problem on many ford vehicles and ford refuses to recall the product. it could lead to a dangerous situation if the door is really ajar and the door may open, drain the battery and when the door switch is malfunctioning, it states that the door is ajar and the doors will not lock. *js

Open or close doors sensors defective. happens in almost all ford edge vehicles.

The dome light stays on, night time driving hazard. false door ajar prevents doors from locking while traveling on highway. doors won't lock major safety issue.

Driver door ajar light stays on constantly making the vehicle unable to lock doors automatically and manually. also, interior lights stay on longer making night driving unsafe as well as risk for battery dying. *tr

The sensor in the drivers side door has malfunctioned and the "driver door ajar" message is on all the time. this also prevents the doors from locking. ford knew of this issue while my vehicle was under warranty and did not replace the sensor. after minimal research i have found this is a known issue with 2011/2012 ford edges but no recall has been issued. this initially started in 2014 but the ford service department "scraped the plates" which worked for about 9 months, until my vehicle was outside of the 36000 mile warranty.

Had to take the vehicle in at 28000 mi. due to "driver door ajar" light coming on when door was closed. ricart ford claimed they repaired or replaced the door latch/sensor assembly. the problem went away until now at 60,000 mi. now doing it again. contacted ricart they said they would have to charge me to repair. i informed them that it had been there previous. they did not care. called ford motors, they had same attitude. the big problem is, the doors will not auto lock when car is in drive because it thinks door is "ajar". my wife stopped at traffic light and someone tried to get in door and got it opened..she sped away. i told ricart and ford motors the story..ford's reply was "we cannot react to a hypothetical situation of what may have happened"..... she could have been injured or worse!!! this should be a recall situation at the least!! approximate incident date listed above is not necessarily accurate. it was at about 28,000 miles. ricart has exact date.

Multiple incidents after repair of door ajar switch/sensor will not recognize that the door is actually closed even though the dome lights stay lit and the car gives a warning.

After the warranty period has expired, there are common complaints of reverse camera malfunction. while malfunctioning, the image from the in-dash screen will produce varying results. at times, the image will be grainy, will be intermittently responsive, will be presented upside-down / mirror-imaged, or will not appear at all. while the backup camera does not provide the sole source of information for the driver as it is supplemented by the driver's field of vision and accessory mirrors, this malfunction presents a potential safety concern.

My door sensor light will not turn off, which is keeping my vehicle from locking. the malfunction is with the driver's side of my 2011 ford edge limited model. sometimes you could should the door 20 times in a row and the door still would not lock. cold temperatures seem to effect the sensor more than a warm day. ford did replace my sensor on my vehicle. *tr

The door latch sensor malfunctions indicating that the door is ajar. doors will not lock neither manually nor electronically. the lf door latch has been replaced 10/12, rf latch replaced 11/13.(both replaced under warranty for malfunction) 9/14 the rf latch again malfunctioned, and was lubricated at a dealer to resolve problem. again at 5/15 the latch again malfunctioned and was inspected. to this day it continues to malfunction. i was advised at the dealership to wait until updated latches are produced. meanwhile, the doors will not lock when driving. when a new design latch is available, i will be required to pay for a replacement latch because the mileage and car are beyond warranty.

When you stop the car and put into park a warning sign comes on indicating that you need to put the shift lever in park. you can click the button on the forward part of the shift lever to release the warning. i took it to ford and the mechanic told me that it would require the disassembly of the shift lever to fix, so i told him i would live with it. i didn't want any greater problems to arise from their work on the shift lever. after my warranty was over i was told that a simple switch adjustment was all that's required. what a pain, as it comes on often! ford should fix this.

A message saying 'driver door ajar' appears on the console even when the door is tightly shut. if i try to lock the doors the car would just unlock all doors even while i'm driving. this is very dangerous especially for someone like me who drives my kids to the daycare and school everyday. at nighttime, the internal lights would also not turn off because the car thinks that one of the doors is open. not only is it draining the battery, it is also basically broadcasting to everyone that the car is open. i have had this problem occur on the car in almost every year i owned it (4 years). it has been to the dealership a number of times. they fix it but it keeps coming back particularly in the summer time. i feel like it should be recalled and i have raised the issue with the dealership and all i hear is 'oh that is a very common problem' but it doesn't seem like they are working on providing a more permanent fix. they need to realize how unsafe driving with all doors unlocked is.

We purchased this vehicle used in wv in april 2012. by may, the door ajar light was coming on even when the door was forcibly closed. the sensor was replaced under warranty. less than a year later, at around 50k miles, the sensor was bad again. once again, the sensor was replaced under warranty. however, this time both the driver door and rear driver side door were affected. now in 2015 at 104k miles the door sensor is bad again in both the front and rear door. now, the lights won't even shut off after a while so the past two mornings in a row, the battery is dead. it's extremely irritating and dangerous. as others have stated, the doors will not auto lock while this issue is present. also, the interior lights do not go off until you reach 20mph. this makes it very dangerous while driving at night. i have read through all the complaints listed for the ford edge and most of them are about this door sensor. why is nothing being done about this??

Driving and transmission drops hard. i this has happened several times typically when foot it off gas. safety concern as the drop is so severe, sometimes it does this two to three times in a row. vehicle tends to buck in extreme. dealer cant "recreate" problem. dealer replaced throttle body and motor on 5/19 still have issues. vehicle will be in to dealer for 4th time in one month.

Drivers door ajar light shows active when door is fully closed. automatic locks fail, interior light remains on. there are numerous complaints about this that have been verified at my local dealership. i have contacted ford customer relations, as did the service repair manager, and they have offered no assistance to repair this problem.

The sync system is consistently locking up, the music plays when the dashboard states the audio is off, when this happens none of the buttoms work. i have been pulling over to the side of the road to turn my vehicle off, open the door to make the screen clear, this does not work. then all of a sudden the sync system will re-boot itself and then it works again. the bluetooth system is always disconnecting my phone or i call someone and i can't hear them, to the point i don't even use the bluetooth anymore. when the motor is shut off and you open the vehicles door the screen should come up with ford emblem. the sync system locking up incident has occurred 3 times and i'm fixing to take it in again. it's always been the same answer there was an update that needed to be done. it is fords responsibility to make when a vehicle is sold new for $40k, that it works. of course i still have to make my monthly payment to ford, if this continues i'm going to look into the lemon law because this is ridiculous.
