Problems with 2010 Ford Edge SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2010 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 96 248 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2010 Ford Edge

While driving on the florida turnpike, when i applied the brakes to slow the vehicle the pedal was hard, and i had to push the brake very hard to slow the vehicle, pines ford inform me it was the booster and that ford had extended coverage on that problem on 2010 edge but for some reason only known to ford our vehicle was not included, after researching i learned this is a common problem with this model, my question is why is there not a recall. like always our government needs a body count before they act in the interest of the citizens of america.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving down hill at 35 mph and approaching a stop sign, the brakes vibrated and hesitated to stop the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the brakes were replaced. in addition, the mechanic advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer due to the brake booster failing. the vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer and no further information was available. it was unknown if the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 121,658. *tt consumer stated she was about to stop at the stop sign but ended up driving past it. updated 11/20/18 *jb

Brake pedal is hard to depress when when coming to a stop

I left the gym i was on a city street and when i pressing on the brake, my vehicle was still moving. brake pedal was really hard to pressed down. i put a lot of force on the pedal just to slow down before i hit the vehicle in front of me. i put in my vin number to to see if my ford edge was on the recall list for this incident but nothing showed up. except for complaints from other ford edge drivers saying it did not get fix because of the vin number. i just wondering why it is not. i'm a veteran who has ptsd from a car crash and just want the company to honor what they say. thanks

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the brakes malfunctioned. the contact stated that the brakes made a hissing noise when the issue began. on one occasion, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the pedal traveled to the floorboard. the contact stated that the brake failure was intermittent and gradually worsened. gerald jones ford in augusta, georgia was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not covered under the extended warranty brake booster bulletin number: 13n02 for 2010-2013 ford edge and lincoln mkx vehicles. the dealer did not determine the cause of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

The brakes on the edge had an audible hissing sound when compressed both when the vehicle was in park and in motion. if the brakes were pressed multiple times in short order (i.e. in rush hour traffic) the response of the system would be inconsistent as it was sometimes "squishy" and other very hard. this seemed to affect the responsiveness of the system. upon taking it to a mechanic, it was revealed that the brake booster was failing and would continue to affect the braking performance until replaced. after a little research, ford recall 13n02 was issued for 2010 - 2013 edges for brake boost failure. ford rejected my claim stating that this vin number was good and not part of the issue despite the fact i had the same symptoms affecting the performance of the braking system and a professional mechanic diagnosed a failed booster as described in the recall. this issue seems to affect more than the vehicles named in the recall and it is a matter of safety when you cannot trust the performance and response of a vehicle especially on interstates with other vehicles traveling at high speed. the only fix is to replace the booster which will allow the brake system to function as designed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving unknown speeds, the brake pedal was difficult to depress and failed to respond without warning. the contact called town & country ford (located at 5041 ford parkway bessemer, al 35022) where it was confirmed that the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 80,983.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving 30 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the pedal traveled all the way to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was unable to provide assistance. the failure mileage was 62,500. *tt

My power booster for brakes failed. there was a bulletin for my make and model however ford claimed that because it was made at another plant it did not fit the criteria. it had the same issues as the vehicles made in the other plant, i fail to understand how they can cover it from one location and not another. the car only has 107k miles and is 7 years old. their bulletin covered 150k miles or 10 years making me believe since we came under all of that it is a defect issue.

Was driving on a city street and started hearing a hissing noise, made that noise for a couple of days. now it's like my brake pedal locks up, it slows it down but i have to push it again really hard to stop the car.. i read some trouble shooting on the brake system of the edge and from what i read it's possibly the booster. i know it's very dangerous.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving 40 mph, the brakes seized without warning. the contact stated that the brake pedal became soft and then stiffened. the vehicle was taken to master brake of apache junction, arizona where it was determined that the brake booster needed to be replaced the vehicle was repaired per the contact's extended warranty. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and transferred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 84,000. updated 08/22/17*lj the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repair costs. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was applied, but the vehicle failed to respond. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 154,455. updated 08/22/17*lj *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, a hissing sound was heard coming from the brake pedal location. the brake pedal felt spongy and/or hard on occasions, which made the vehicle difficult to stop and increased the stopping distance. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (bob tomes ford in mckinney, texas), but the cause of the failure had not been determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 145,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving in stop and go traffic on the highway, the brake pedal was depressed and felt abnormal. it took extra effort to stop the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake booster needed replacement. the independent mechanic informed the contact of a manufacturer communication number: csp-13n02 (service brakes). the manufacturer stated that the vehicle did not meet the extended warranty coverage. the contact notified the local ford dealer, george wall ford lincoln on 700 shrewsbury ave, red bank, nj 07701, where an appointment was scheduled for repairs. the failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

Started having brake problems - brakes became rock hard and then spongy at times- had a hard time stopping the vehicle and holding the vehicle while stopped at a light - very scary - two different shops before taking it to the dealership - brake booster is bad. $740 to fix. apparently others have had the same issue. called ford but my vehicle is not covered under the recall they had. i was told to hold on to my receipts in case another recall came up.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. the contact heard an abnormal noise progressing from the brakes and the brake pedal was difficult to depress. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and recommended that the vehicle be taken to a dealer to replace the brake booster. the dealer (ray pearman lincoln, 2501 bob wallace ave sw, huntsville, al 35805, (256) 536-7451) and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a service campaign and refused to provide a solution other than the part being replaced. the contact was uncertain that if the part was replaced the failure would not recur. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags). the manufacturer provided no solution and was contacted to determine when the air bag recall repair would be provided. the approximate failure mileage was 122,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving unknown speeds, the abs applied automatically. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the anti lock brake sensor needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 50,000.

When applying the brakes, my car would make a hissing sound. sometimes the brake would feel hard, but here recently the brake pedal had more of a spongy feel. this had been going on for several months without noticeable issues related to the braking performing. that was until yesterday. the hissing noise was still present and the pedal would go down all the way to the floor when applying the brakes. the vehicle was in motion and would not stop properly for me when i was approaching a stop sign. i had to pump the brakes in order for the vehicle to come to a stop. if the pedal was held down, a squealing noise then occurred. i researched online to see if this was a common issue with other ford edge owners, and i came across an extended warranty that ford released in 2014 titled, "13n02." the extended warranty talked about an issue that had been occurring in ford edge models made between 2010-2013. the description of the affected vehicles was spot on with what i had just experienced with my vehicle and i met the program terms due to my car being less than 10 years old and under 150,000 miles. i immediately brought my vehicle in to the local ford dealership to have my car repaired. to my surprise, the mechanic informed me that my vehicle was not covered based on my vin number. we then quickly discovered it was due to my car being built five days prior to the included date on the extended warranty. the warranty covered vehicles from may 3, 2010-march 28, 2013. my vehicle was made on april 28, 2010. the staff at the ford dealership could not believe this either. it is obvious that the dates on the warranty should be adjusted. i had to pay to have my brake booster replaced for the same service others were covered under warranty. this is a very serious issue and a major safety hazard that needs to be brought to ford's attention before people are killed related to this issue. *tr

Called ford customer service at 800-392-3673 and described my problem as follows...brakes started sounding like air was leaking out, but brakes continued to work. today, i was sitting at a traffic light and the car kept surging forward, even with my foot on the brake. this is extremely dangerous. was told by ford that this was a vin specific incident and my vehicle would not be covered. ???????? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving 20 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise underneath the vehicle, causing the contact to come to an abrupt stop. the brake pedal became extremely stiff and the contact had to downshift. while attempting to shift into drive, the gear shift became stuck. the contact was unable to drive the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case and the brake booster needed to be replaced. the transfer case was replaced; however, the vehicle remained in the dealer's possession. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 134,000.

Brake booster has failed, and now engine won't idle properly and stalls due to vacuum leak from the bad brake booster. i had reported symptoms (hissing, occasional hard pedal, etc.) during service visits while my "bumper to bumper" warranty was still in effect, but was told it was "noise from the new brake pads" and it just needed the brake fluid topped off. symptoms persisted, but then service bulletin 13n02 was announced, and because my car was manufactured 2 months before the dates covered in the service bulletin the dealership has still refused to cover the costs. so i now have a 2010 edge that is not only hard to stop, but also now stalls out when it does stop!

Brake booster is leaking, when i press on the brakes we can hear a hissing noise, and at times we have to apply a lot of pressure to get the brakes to work. we only have 85,000 miles on our edge, i noticed that there ad been a customer satisfaction program 13n02 which has expired and doesn't include my vehicle however all of the symptoms are the same as what the letter states. i called ford and they were unable to help me. it seems to me that if the symptoms are identical to the vehicles that had the letter sent out to extend the warranty to repair the problem that they need to look at the fact that the problem has reached more vehicles than they thought it affected. how many ford edges have had brake booster problems. this should be a full recall to ensure our safety.

Two days ago began intermittent loss of power brakes. had to nearly put my foot through the floor to get my vehicle to stop in heavy traffic. was advised by local mechanic of customer satisfaction program 13n02 which acknowledges brake booster problem in my model year edge. contacted ford customer service and dealer and was told by both that my vehicle was not included in this repair. now i am facing a costly mechanic's bill (nearly $1000) for a known and dangerous problem.

Brakes were making noise. dealership charged me ~$1,500 to replace brake booster and parking brake control module. however, just found issuance 13n02, which extended warranty for same problem for other years of this make and model. please extend the recall to include 2010 ford edge. the brakes should not fail like this in a 6 year old car with only 60k miles!

Brake booster failure while driving in traffic. brake pressure was too much for female driver. failure occurred while exiting parking lot into highway traffic. vehicle missed the customer satisfaction program 13n02 by 7 working days. affected vehicles should be expanded.

The other day i had left my house in my 2010 ford edge limited awd to pick up my daughter. as i approached the first stop sign in my neighborhood i applied the brakes. the brake pedal hit a stopping point and wouldn't depress any further, however my car kept going and didn't stop for another 15-20 feet. i was stepping on the brakes as hard as i could. i was only traveling 15-20 mph at the time. at such low speeds taking that long to stop is unacceptable. thankfully none of the neighborhood children were out playing or this situation could've ended horribly. thi issue occurred suddenly and not gradually. my dealer says it's the brake booster. seeing how dangerous this situation is and how suddenly it occurred i started to research the issue. i found csp13n02 and my car fits all the criteria (build date, oakville, ontario factory...etc.). i contacted my dealer and they said my car wasn't showing up on their system as covered and to try to contact ford. then i contacted ford regarding the issue and they told me to contact my dealer with a case number. are you kidding my right now???? this is absurd. i will pay the $700 to fix the problem simply because of the value i have for my family's safety and on the safety of my neighbors. but...this is a ford issue and that is clear by the warranty extension they provide specifically for the break booster part failure... ford is refusing to acknowledge or fix the problem. the lady i spoke to have me an address to a p.o. box and told me i can write a letter to the manager in detroit named phil perry...really??? my family and i have been dedicated ford owners for 4 decades, but sadly that will be changing very soon. this is unacceptable.

While driving on interstate and trying to exit, the brakes quit working with no notice. had to pump them to get them to respond. when we finally get home, we played with the braking system in the drive way. the brake pedal started out being difficult to press then ended up making a hissing noise. had to utilize emergency brake to get vehicle to stop quickly otherwise it would take 50-100 feet to stop. once we took it to moses ford in st albans, wv, we learned the power booster failed. after researching the issue, it appears ford recalled 2011 models but not 2010

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, and the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the pedal. in addition, the contact had to apply force to the brake pedal in order to get the vehicle to stop. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a dealer who confirmed that the brake power booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v712000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 72,000. parts distribution disconnect.

The brake pedal became hard to brake. the car wound stop eventually. when i stop to test the brake there were hissing sounds when brake pedal near the floor. happen to similar model ford model without recall. th's is a very dagerous situation when travel on the highway and ford knew about that: customer satisfaction program 13n02 certain 2010-2013 model year edge and mkx vehicles extended warranty coverage on brake booster.

My car has approximately 90,000 miles. after a trip we began to notice the brake pedal was very hard on the initial touch, like pushing against a brick wall. very frightening. brakes did slow the car down, but not as quick or responsive as when the pedal is working properly. when pushed very hard, the pedal finally moves forward toward the floor in a somewhat normal manner, but mushy. a hissing sound is also heard when applying the brakes. when i took the car to the local dealer i was told that ford had just released a new extended warranty and free repair for this problem concerning the brake booster, a tear, and beginning with ford edge's built in 2010. when my vin was checked, i was then told my car did not fall within the dates for the program. my car was manufactured on april 27 2010 and the program begins for cars manufactured on may 3, 2010. when my dealer called ford he was told that nothing could be done; my car had missed the date by 6 days. if you are experiencing this similar problem, please report it so that enough complaints can be recorded that ford will be required to do something about it, for all cars that are experiencing this problem, not just those manufactured after some random date selected by ford. if the issue is with the part, then all defective parts should qualify. i hope it does not take a death before ford takes care of this problem. i have no choice but to have the defective part replaced, or park the car. i have driven a ford for most of my life, but things like this are reasons why i am considering changing manufacturers. see 13n02 brake booster warranty extension 2010 - 2013 edge and mkx.

Been changing the breaks constantly and now the break booster is gone out. no matter what breaks i've put on they would always be hard to mash. they were bleed and installed properly. i only had the vehicle 14 months.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while the contact's wife was at a stop light, the brake pedal traveled to the floor and the engine jerked. the contact's wife had to slowly drive the vehicle back home. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 75,000. updated 05/10/16*lj the consumer stated tiffany ford diagnosed the problem as the brake booster, which was repaired and problem has been resolved. *tr

When stopping vehicle braking became extremely difficult and stopping power drastically reduced. definite loss of power braking. hissing sound every time brakes are engaged. if brakes are firmly pressed for any extended period, a loud whistling sound is heard. vehicle is operated in city streets. on hills, constant pressure is needed to keep from rolling backwards. had vehicle to a mechanic who advised it is the brake booster and advised ford had a recall on certain fords for brake booster issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving at 50 mph and coming to a stop, the vehicle jerked and required a longer stopping distance when the brake pedal was depressed. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

2010 edge 24,000 miles only, for a month feeling sick, headaches due to smelling fumes inside edge, smelled like propane gas, smelled more with stopped. they found leak at pto, burnt and oozing goo, cost to replace $1436.00, never heard of this in my life this is a health risk to myself and family, told also that the tie-rods and front brakes and rotorsworn out which could cause a fatal accident. how can this be happening on a 5 yr old car this low miles i have to file a second report on the dry rotted tires 08 tires on a 2010 new car can some one explain this

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving approximately 25 mph and coming to a stop, an abnormal sound was heard from the vehicle. in addition, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving approximately 55 mph on the highway, the brake pedal felt stiff when it was depressed. the contact released the pedal and depressed it again and was able to slow down the vehicle. the failure was intermittent. the brakes made a hissing sound when engaged and the pedal had to be depressed to the floorboard in order to function. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 139,334.

1 week ago noticed a hissing sound coming from what seems to be the break pedal area while applying pressure to the pedal and also while totally engaged and vehicle is at a complete stop. yesterday the break pedal has become very hard to press and break power is very poor and hesitant. also hissing still exist. thinking maybe break booster failure or vacuum failure.

While drive along with normal flow of traffic, i came to a well known stop sign approaching oncoming traffic in both directions. when i put my foot on the brake pedal to stop, the vehicle didn't have any brakes and did not even attempt to stop. the brake pedal was hard and there was a loud whooshing sound. after repeated attempts to use the brake pedal as i usually do, the same thing kept happening. it does not matter what rate of speed or road conditions. it is a clear sunny day. the brakes suddenly went out.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford edge. while driving approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and there was an abnormal noise. in addition, the vehicle hesitated to stop. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be flushed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

I have been experiencing a hissing noise when depressing the brake. a few times, the brake has been difficult to depress when trying to stop the vehicle. brake pads and rotors have been replaced an is not the problem.

Brakes started making a very loud "hissing" sound and occasionally felt like the pedal wouldn't depress. had the car inspected at dealership and was told the brakes were fine. today (month later) the brakes still make the "hissing" sound and the brake won't depress without really stepping on it hard. it feels like the car will not stop. i drive my kids in this car and it terrifies me - this is clearly a problem that can lead to fatal results. i am surprised to find out there is no recall on the brake booster, which is the problem; given the incidents with gm and toyota i am shocked ford has made no effort to correct this problem. i am now not sure i will purchase a ford again in the future if i can't trust they will issue necessary safety recalls.

A loud "hissing" noise can be heard when depressing the brake pedal. brakes feel "spongey" and require considerable effort to bring the vehicle to a full stop. i took the car into tire kingdom for diagnosis and was told the rotors and brake pads on the front of the vehicle needed replaced. this was completed only to find it did not resolve the problem. the manager contacted ford and was advised there is a recall on the power brake booster for the make, model, and year of my vehicle. i contacted ford to schedule the repair and was told that my vin is not part of the recall and the repair would not be covered. when i questioned further i was advised the recall only covers "some" of the cars assembled at the oakville plant with my make, model , and year and that they could not cover the replacement of this faulty equipment.

The brakes on my 2010 ford edge make a hissing noise when pressed. in addition, the brake pedal feels spongy and the car will only stop when you press the pedal all the way down to the floor board. this is a problem that ford is aware of, yet they refuse to cover the cost of the repair. ford released a "customer satisfaction program 13n02" memo describing the exact symptoms that my car is showing and stated that the problem is with the brake booster system. however, the memo states that only certain 2010 vehicles are affected and mine is not one of them. i am terrified that one day soon, the car will not stop at all and my family and i will be seriously injured. we received a quote of approximately $1400 to repair the brake booster system. ford is completely aware that the brakes on the 2010 edge are faulty, but they knowingly continue to place families in danger by not acknowledging that the brake defect is more widespread.

Problem to break the car in a slope. when i press the the break pedal, it gone all the way out. when i press for a second time it stop at least 25 feet to hit a wall. as per mechanic consulted this was due to a defective break booster in my ford edge sel 2010.

Brakes made hissing sound when pedal was pressed and then had to stomp on the pedal to get the car to stop. the vehicle nearly slid into a busy highway at the intersection because the brakes didn't engage. a certified ford technician at the dealership said the issue was a faulty brake booster that needed replaced. apparently, this has been a huge issue with many ford models including mine. a simple google search reveals hundreds of complaints about this defective part. please investigate! this is very dangerous and it's just a matter of time before there is a serious accident. *tr

Brakes have become spongy and a hissing sound is emitted when they are pressed. pedal must be pressed harder than normal. *tr

Cooling - we had repairs done in the air & coolant . nothing works in this car. we went to ford grody to get a rental as their letter specified but there is a 130 on their waiting list for a rental car ( alternate transportation) we been waiting 3 years. till now no parts is available yet

Very hard brake. extremely hard to stop especially at a slow roll. braking at faster (20-30mph) speeds more effective, but very ineffective when moving very slowly (5mph or less). when applying brake, there is a hissing sound. very scary to drive and only did to get to repair shop. this problem matches exactly an existing recall with ford edge 2010's, but for some reason my vin was excluded in the recall. car repaired at ford dealer, but had to pay more than $500. *tr

Had to push the brake pedal very hard to stop, so basically no power brakes. took it to the ford dealer and paid >$600 to replace the brake booster. i have never had to replace one of these in any car i have owned. this is not a repair that should be needed given the number of miles on the car. ford should be the one paying for this repair. *tr
