We have classified the 151 complaints from 2007 Ford Edge about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Vehicle was in motion for awhile, car was running okay until i came to a stoplight and then all of a sudden my car goes limp. my vehicle makes loud/hard clank noise. loss of power, wrench light came on. pulled over, loud/hard clank sound with every gear change p-2. vehicle had displayed no issues prior to this. i am able to pull the car over, turn it off and take they key out of the ignition. then the wrench light is off when i restart the car. stays in low gear for a long time when i start to accelerate, and until vehicle eventually accelerates faster, other cars almost running into the back of my car since my car is not accelerating at a normal pace. i am greatly concerned about what appears to be a huge safety issue with this car. there are multiple complaints about the same issue to be found all over the internet. ford needs to issue a recall and fix this asap before someone gets seriously hurt or is killed from the extreme loss of power the vehicle is suffering from when this occurs!
The wrench light and airbag lights were on. my speedometer wasn't working. transmission was clunking. the powertrain (wrench) & service engine signals come on after experiencing loss of speed such as after a traffic light stop. we have to push down far on the gas pedal just to move and this is followed by rough shifting (makes a sudden jerk and loud thud sound). everything goes back to normal for awhile when the vehicle is turned off; its like the car resets itself.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds without warning the cabin air vents fill up with an abnormal smoke odor. the contact pulled the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway, opened the windows to eliminate smoke odor. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission seal leaked and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred several times. the dealer (berglund ford, 834 e main st, salem, va 24153 (540) 389-7291) was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not subjected to any recalls. the manufacturer was made ware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Ford states that the ptu has a lifetime oil and does not need changed yet the unit is located so close to exhaust that the oil turns to sludge, there is no plug to check fluid conditions there is no way to flush and or refill. the only solution is to replace the ptu but how do you know how much damage to the transmission was caused? no one knows because its supposedly a lifetime oil and the dangerous heating conditions of the placement of the ptu heats the oil useless and the causes damage to the transmission. depending on the amount of damage assessed upon removal, you may need to replace the entire transmission. i do not have any documentation attached because i have poured so much money into trying to isolate and diagnose i now cant afford to have this very expensive problem fixed. this has a poor design and should be replaced by the manufacture.
Lost power while driving at 65 mph. speedometer stopped working, warning lights -picture of wrench light, tire pressure came on. said data ------ failure. it was terrifying. made it to a parking lot. turned off care & let it sit a few minutes. restarted and it was back to normal. my research on line says it's the powertrain module. lots of complaints for the same issue with ford 2007 edge - should have been a recall. i have 96,000 miles on it and it's well maintained.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost power. the vehicle was restarted and began bucking. in addition, the check engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the number three coil pack was damaged and the powertrain control module needed to be repaired. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 84,500.
Transmission shudders between 5th and 6th gear. only one previous owner. owned vehicle less than one year. became increasingly worrisome very fast.
While stopped when going to accelerate the transmission feels like it's not working the vehicle wraps the speedometer the mile which doesn't work speed doesn't work airbag lights are on wrench light is on tire light is on rpm stay at 2k the vehicle will barely move.
2007 ford edge. history: regular scheduled maintenance performed always, garage kept, taken well care of. mileage at this time is 145k. ***driving along (in town) when i noticed the edge was idling really low (note: 2 weeks after scheduled oil change, inspection and new battery)-all of a sudden heard this terrible clanking noise. it sounded like the whole car was falling apart. i pulled over in to a parking lot, shut the car off. tried to crank it again and it wouldn't crank-finally did after several tries (still making this terrible sound). **no warning lights, no fluctuating in gages---nothing. we had the edge towed to our ford dealership and were told the water pump went bad and the engine was destroyed. our oil was full of water/coolant--it looked like muddy water. what? how? no warning, no signs? after much research we are finding that the water pump is inside the engine, therefore if the water pump "goes" there are no external signs of leakage---it's kindly leaking in to your engine and destroying it. this literally happened in a matter of minutes. yes, this is safety issue--it left me stranded ...
Driving car on city streets and all of sudden the wrench light, low tire light and airbag light came on then the became sluggish as if it was going to cut off. the car was hard to pull to the side of the road. the it makes a hard thug/grinding noise when putting in gear. ford states it needs a oss (output speed sensor).
We have a 2007 ford edge my wife was driving on the freeway, she was approaching her exit when the vehicle shut off completely. thank god she could pull over and after several attempts to start the car again, she succeeded. this happened about 6 months ago. about 3 or 4 months later, she was pulling into a parking lot of a store when the vehicle shut off again without a warning. she got stuck in the middle of the lane blocking all traffic. a few minutes later it started again seemingly without any problem. until two weeks ago, she was driving down the street and the car shut off for the third time. and for the last week, the car has problems starting. it cranks for a few seconds like it has no fuel then starts. today's date 9/3/2018
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the vehicle hard shifted. the contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while stationary and suffered a loss of power or engine stalling on more than one occasion. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the power control module and the ignition coils failed and caused a cylinder misfire. in addition, the ignition coils melted. the failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
Takata recall. it's been almost 2 years that we have been trying to get the airbag parts and no replacement. this is our only vehicle and it is a great inconvenience. we need a loaner car until the parts are available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced severe vibration and hesitation. the contact also noticed that coils were melted in the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to pittsville ford (34690 old ocean city road, pittsville, md) where it was diagnosed that the pcm was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
My wife was driving with our two children on our road (a busy one) and the engine just stopped. she had to pull over with cars zooming by her and shut off the car and turned it back on. engine light was flashing, go to find out the coils and pcm just went out. looked online and a lot of people have the same problem.
