Problems with 1999 Dodge Stratus EQUIPMENT

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. the contact stated that the power steering failed. the vehicle began smoking underneath the hood , and the mechanic replaced the power steering pump and hose. also, the contact stated that the transmission failed and caused the indicators on the instrument panel to malfunction. this failure prevented her from determining how fast she was driving. in addition, the gears failed to shift from second gear. the mechanic stated that a sensor in the transmission and the air conditioning system failed. also, the cooling system failed, and the water pump and timing belt were replaced twice. the failure began when the vehicle ran hot. she will collect the work reports and receipts from the dealer regarding the other failures that occurred. the current mileage is 105,000, and failure mileage was 79,000.*ak

I was in my 1999 dodge stratus all of maybe 15 minutes traveling to the store. i turned it off and went in the store for maybe 5 minutes. i started my car again and traveled to a friends house maybe 10 minutes from the store. i was in their home probably 10 minutes tops. when i went to leave i noticed smoke coming out from under my hood and flames shooting out from under the front of my car. we tried unsuccessfully to put the fire out. when the fire department finally arrived my car was totally engulfed in flames. i had liability insurance so i just lost my car because it was totaled. then in april of 2006 i get a recall (e23) from daimler chrysler and i am totally amazed. this is probably what happened to my car. i notified daimler chrysler and the sent someone out to take pictures of my car and then sent me a letter denying my claim. the same complaints which alerted them of the problem with the power steering fluid hose and caused this recall to be made, are those with almost exact circumstances as myself. so what do i do now? the gentleman at customer claims resolution group for daimler chrysler stressed to me to hire and attorney. so this is what i will be doing within the next few days. *nm

On dec. 12, 2004 myself, my daughter , & her step-daughter were on our way to go shopping approximately 60 miles from home. we stopped at approximately 45 miles and ate lunch, then continued the other 15 miles. we exited the 1999 dodge stratus and entered the store. after approximately 5-10 minutes, an in-store page went out that a vehicle of our description was smoking badly. when i looked out the store window, i saw the vehicle was mine. i ran out to the parking lot to find my car (1999 dodge stratus) motor was on fire with fire coming out from underneath the motor and black smoke boiling out. by the time emergency vehicles arrived (police and fire department), my car was fully in flames. fire fighters extinguished the fire finally, but my car was totally destroyed. the hot-spot on the hood was on the driver side near the windshield. *jb

Multiple failures, continually steering problems. engine leaked oil, no a/c or heated, ect. *bf the consumer stated that the steering wheel was loose. the consumer attempted to make a left turn and hit the curb due to the loose steering wheel. the consumer stated that there might be a problem with the right side axle. *tc

I have had my dodge stratus es for approximately 3 years and the back safety shoulder harness has quit working now 2 times. the first time i had it fixed under warranty and this last time the dealership refused to repair it without it costing a small fortune. i think there should there should be some kind of automatic repair of safety parts, such as, seat belts, etc without a small fortune having to be paid.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. the aftermarket floormats rise underneath the brake pedal and catch onto the steering column. while driving between 2-5 mph, the steering wheel locked due to the floormat and the contact could not turn the wheel. the vehicle crashed into his other parked vehicle. the front bumper was damaged. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. the contact feels that the vehicle should have a hook installed to prevent the floormat from moving. he did not have any product information regarding the floormats. the failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 160,000. updated 03-04-08 *bf

Consumer check engine light illuminated on dodge stratus 1999. *ts (11/17/05) the a/c stopped on the vehicle and the right front wheel was damaged at purchase. *sc

The consumer stated when he raised the vehicle using a jack, it collapsed which caused the vehicle to fall to the ground. *ak *scc *jb

Light bulb within the trunk burned out due to no cover over the light bulb which put a hole in the sleeping bag that is in the trunk of the vehicle. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. when it rains, the instrument panel gauges, windshield wipers, and air conditioner become inoperable. the contact stated that the vehicle was a lemon because it has been included in two recalls and the windows did not work at the time of purchase. the contact believes that chrysler should repair the vehicle since the failures have been occurring since the day it was purchased. the vin and failure mileage were unknown. the current mileage was 5,000.
