Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

My vehicle has gone into what is described as a "death wobble" on four different occasions, while moving. twice on the freeway, once coming down-hill on a mountain road and the last on a two lane road. we have verbally complained to the dealer to no avail. these incidents have occurred at different speeds and on one we had an unguarded cliff on one side.

When i drive my dodge ram 2500 on any road that the speed is 50 or higher, any rough area that has patch work or any pot holes of any size. the truck will shake and wobble to the point of control is very hard to maintain, i have to lightly brake to slow it to maintain control ! over 500 dollars in tire's & shock repair ! then a month or so it starts again, a little at first , the truck is unsafe for what was made to do! the tuck had 95,000 miles on it the first time on i-40 from cal to az, the last report of the wobble was sep-10-17, now with about 102,500 mil ,my son who is 40 , was on his way home on hwy-93 when my ram 2500 started to wobble on him, even when he switched lanes ,the hole where the highway reflector is placed in made it start to shake !

2006 dodge ram 2500 4x4 dodge death wobble - when riding down the road at 60 mph and hit a bumb vehicle starts bouncing off of ground and will continue to bouncel until vehicle drops to 35 mph. very dangerous. this problem has happened for over a year. dodge dealer of no help.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle experienced a "death wobble", which means it shook violently without warning. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 107,000.

Multiple repairs to the front end suspension of the vehicle, to the point that we are now paying for the repairs and the dealership denying they replaced the most recent track bar on the truck and blame the tires on the truck. i am really tired of running off into a ditch after hitting a bump in the road or steer to miss a pothole. just fix the truck correctly and stop making excuses telling us it is our tires when it is a 4x4 and they cannot put more sturdy parts on the front end or take blame for the steering shaft and gear box when these have been recalled under the death wobble. hub assembly had to be replaced on this truck as well. trying to turn the vehicle into a parking spot and constantly having to back into a space. this death wobble has gone too far. as far as the electrical they cannot find why the dashboard keeps flickering and we keep blowing fuses or bulbs. it is really getting annoying with this truck and all the repairs which we have had to do this vehicle, and yet take responsibility for it.

While driving at 70< hit a small bump and the truck started shakinv violently. only way to stop it was bring the vehicle to a complete. started back out and it worked fine. this has happened several more times. i have went as far as to having the torque convertor replaced with no luck. it does this to me at the speed os 65 to 75 mph.i have been reading and learned its refererd as the death wobble and is caused by faulty suspension and steering components.

After hitting a road imperfection, transition, or bump while driving at freeway speeds (50 to 70 mph), the front end and steering shakes violently. the only solution to stop the violent shake is to rapidly slow my truck to 35 mph or slower and hopefully be able to pull to the side of the freeway. i have nearly been in or have caused accidents on about a dozen occasions. i have replaced tires, shock absorbers, and the steering box and the problem continues to where i believe the truck is not longer safe to operate at freeway speeds. this violent front end / steering shake event has occurred on more than 2 dozen occasions.

Driving to work and hit bump on freeway at 70mph. truck shook violently on right side front. this is the second time it has occurred. first occurrence was at 102,000 and second occurrence was at 141,000. it is known as the "dodge death wobble". the repair the first time consisted of replacing the front steering components. the repair was done by an off-road shop. tomorrow (6/6/16), the truck goes to the repair shop for evaluation. this time was scary. the truck shook violently. i had to reduce speed rapidly and was lucky that it was the weekend and there were only a few vehicles behind me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle shook and vibrated severely after driving over a bump in the road. the failure subsided after the speed was reduced to 40 mph. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Front end of dodge ram and steering wheel will shake and wobble violently after hitting small bump in road at high speeds. shaking continues for about 12 seconds. very dangerous when happening in interstate traffic.

While traveling at highway speeds, if i hit a bump or pothole, the front end begins to shudder violently nearly causing a loss of control and causing me to suddenly move to the left or right. this happens nearly on a daily basis on my way to or from work. the only way to stop the "death wobble" is to quickly slow down below 30 mph. this has cased near rear end collisions with people following me. this appears to be a well known problem that the auto maker refuses to solve. i hope someone doesn't end up hurt or killed because i lose control of my vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate violently. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road for a brief moment and then resumed normally. the failure recurred on a separate occasion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the front stabilizer was replaced. the mechanic also informed that the steering linkage would need to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic for a second opinion, who confirmed that the steering linkage would not need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 296,670.

On october 25, 2015 around 11:00 am while driving 65-70 mph on the pa turnpike near allentown area (some minor road defects appeared to be in the roadway, weather conditions good) the vehicle violently shook as if all the tires were basketballs. had to hold onto steering wheel as best as i could from all the shaking while applying brakes but the vehicle would not slow down. this is the fourth time this has happened with this vehicle after. we checked with the dodge dealer to see if there were any recalls on anything similar and they told us no. so we began replacing tires, shocks, steering shaft and steering box, front stabilizer shock, left front ball joints and u joint, new brakes and rotors all the way around and the ones we took off were still very new looking, service station wanted to know if we wanted to keep them, we said no. the first time it happened was almost in the same area as 10/25/15 while traveling to tennessee so we did not travel over 60 mph, then again traveling back to pa, this was when we changed out the aforementioned parts, the third time happened while our son was driving 60 mph on route 33 in easton, pa. there has to be something seriously wrong!! i just thank god my husband was driving because i would not have been able to get it under control.. we would appreciate it very much if you could investigate this issue. thank you *tr

I was cruising down a 4 lane highway at approximately 75 mph and hit a minor bump in the road. the vehicle started shaking violently (felt like a vertical motion and not side to side) i had to apply the brakes and quickly reduce speed to keep from losing control of the vehicle. upon some research with similar complaints i would best describe my experience as one associated with the "death wobble". this issue has occurred more than once while driving at speeds around 75 mph. the shaking was violent enough that it shook everything off of the seats before i was able to stop. the source of the shaking i believe has to do with the front axle. i thought it may be a faulty tire or unbalanced tire so i had all of the tires inspected, rotated, and balanced. there were no issues found with the tires.

This is the 4th time we have had to go back to dealership and them turn us away by doing a visual inspection stating there was nothing wrong with the truck, however we cannot get an alignment because sway bar, track bar, and tie rods all needed to be repaired. took truck back again after there was so much pooping noise and vibration from the front end that i could not take it anymore. outer tie rods were done, and found out the track bar was cracked so a new one replaced the original one yet no record was completed of this with the dealership, only that they tightened the track bar. i am so fed up with the dealerships and chrysler with all of this nonesense, it is really going to come down to us completely having a bad accident or something to this extent before something is done, and we stop having to pay for all the repairs to a faulty front end. driving down the rod feeling the vibrations is very scary, and not knowing if the tires are going to come off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that while driving at 2 mph, the steering wheel seized. in addition, the contact heard a noise coming from the front of the vehicle. upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the tie rod on the front driver's side had fractured. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic, who diagnosed that the tie rod, front left wheel bearing assembly and the front left upper ball joint needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. after the vehicle was repaired, the contact heard a noise coming from the steering wheel. the vehicle was taken to another mechanic who diagnosed that the tie rods needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v528000 (steering). however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 142,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. while driving approximately 30 mph, the front passenger side of the vehicle began to bounce up and down. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the passenger side tie rod needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

My truck has what is know as "death wobble" at certain hwy speeds the truck shakes violently, you have to slow down or you will lose control. *tr

Driving at a speed over 55 mph and hitting a bump or pot hole my truck starts to shake and my steering wheel shakes back and forth very fast and uncontrollable until i slow down below 35 mph. i have heard this called the death wobble and i see how it got its name, if a solution isn't found soon one of these times i may not be able to slow down safely and kill some one in an accident or myself. *tr

Hauling a goose neck trailer empty to new mexico, suddenly the truck began to shake violently in the famous "death wobble" of these vehicles. i scheduled an appointment with the dealer and they found the whole front end need to be "updated" to the bigger beefier suspension. this happens often enough that chrysler has created a whole kit for doing this upgrade. my vehicle was not consider in need of the recall replacement just four weeks prior. the service writer strongly suggested i have the vehicle in for a full inspection of the front end but never told me while inspecting he knew the front end was a safety hazard. it is obvious to me that nhtsa has stepped on the end of its pecker limiting the recall to one style of front end rod. this is an engineering and materials defect of the truck. worse it is a very dangerous defect. nhtsa needs to expand the recall to include all dodge trucks without the beefier front end suspension. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that the tie rod was separating from the suspension. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 13v528000 (steering suspension) but was unable to have the vehicle service within a reasonable time frame. the local dealer was contacted and advised that the part was not available and that they were only receiving one recall part per week. the contact was placed on a waiting list. the failure mileage was not available. updated 04/14/14*lj the consumer stated as of march 17th the dealership still did not have the necessary parts available to repair the vehicle. updated 04/18/2014 *js updated 7/14/14*cn the consumer stated the issue was resolved. updated 07/18/2014 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle began to shake violently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the four tires were rotated; however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was currently being diagnosed by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000. ... updated 03/24/14 *bf the consumer while driving between 55-60 mph if he hit a slight bump in the roadway or approaching a bridge where the bridge pavement and the road pavement was grooved, the vehicle would shake violently to the point, he was unable to control the vehicle. also, the consumer noticed power steering fluid leaking from the steering box. the consumer believed it was due to the violent shaking that the pitman arm and the stress put on the ball joints and steering rods. the steering wheel would shake in his hand. updated 04/01/14

While driving at 65 mph i hit a bump in the road at the end of the bridge i was crossing. the front end began shaking violently. i hit the brakes and when i slowed to approx. 40 mph the shaking stopped. i have been checking on-line and discovered the shaking is commonly call the "death wobble". i can see why it is called that because i had little to no control of the vehicle when the death wobble occurred. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 13v528000 (suspension) was received in 2013. after contacting the dealer and the manufacturer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the vehicle were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be given. the contact had not experienced a failure.

I severe steering wobble at highway speed after hitting a bump/ pothole in the roadway. s wobble stopped upon slowing. while driving can feel something bumping in the steering wheel anytime you hit a bump while on slight turn. i contacted several dealers in the ohio west virginia area i explained my difficulty they stated they only get parts to repair 1 vehicle per week. they stated there is a list over a hundred people and they could not help me even though they stated having possession of parts to perform 6 recalls either n 62 or h47. elm grove dodge in elm grove wv and bob caldwell chrysler plymouth in columbus ohio also stated having parts to do 4 recalls they also stated having a long list and only receiving 1 recall part per week. the dealer in ri paul bailey dodge in north kingstown gave me this same story months ago said they would put me on the list as we'll. they never called. i contacted daimler chrysler 7/2/14 advised of them of my situation and i'm awaiting a follow up phone call 7/3/14 to advise me if they have found a dealer to assist me. i offered to drive 3 hours to caldwell chrysler in columbus ohio. also i offered to leave the truck for a week or 2 for them to complete the repairs. this is a very serious condition. ps i offered to buy the part they stated the new customer pay part requires the purchase of 3 additional steering linkage parts as the steering linkage has been upgraded and the new parts are not compatible with the oem parts installed new at the factory. however the tie bar associated with the recall is designed to be compatible with the oem steering linkage thus making it not necessary to replace 3 other steering parts daimler would not have to pay for. please advise asap. *tr

I was on i-35 in mo just north of cameron heading toward winston. about half way between winston and cameron i hit a bump in the road. the road is some what rough due to truck traffic. when i hit the bump the front of the truck became loose violently shaking and causing complete loss of control of the vehicle. it felt as if i were running over a series of speed bumps. i began to slow down immediately. as i was slowing down the truck still shaking vigorously i reclaimed control of the vehicle easing it to the shoulder and stopping. once stopped i began on the road again and seemed to be fine. *tr

For the last two or three months my 2006 dodge ram 2500 has started having the death wobble!! the uncontrollable tire wobble happens at least twice a day now. i have tried just about everything to fix it. i have purchased new bushings and the steering gear stabilizer. i will not buy another dodge because of this. when talking to dodge about my problem, it felt like they were just blowing me off. *tr

When driving vehicle on highway and hitting bump in road a bad wobble occurs. nothing was ever done to front end other than normal maintenance to the vehicle. dodge has a recall for replacement parts but not for the original parts on the trucks. i also have an emplyee that had the same issue on his 05 dodge ram 2500 and replace with a kit sold by papas dodge in new britain, ct. *tr

Another issue with this truck tipm idling in driveway horn honks by itself lights high beams turn on and off by themselves blinkers work intermittently this truck has been a pain i have made a formal complaint about the ball joints they have been replaced 3 times in less than 51000 miles dodge dealer replaced them twice while under warranty but replaced them on my own the last time also steering gearbox snapped in half replaced that while pullin 18 foot trailer got stopped but could not get out of the road we spend alot of money on our trucks while dodge makes alot of money building junk i have been offered 35,000 for the truck but i wont sell it to anyone to have these problems. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500. the contact stated that the front tires wore prematurely due to a several parts that exceeded the weight specification. the dealer had to replace the front suspension assembly, hubs and the steering pitman arm to correct the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,572 and the current mileage was 40,923. updated 05/19/14*lj updated 05/28/2014 *js

While driving down the highway at 70 mph i hit a rough spot in the road and truck began to shake violently. i had no control until i slowed down to under 50 mph. there was heavy traffic as it was rush hour and i almost caused a serious accident. after researching the internet i have found this to be a common problem in dodge trucks and jeeps. there are many youtube videos, it has been on national news and there are many complaints on nhtsa.dot.gov also. is it going to take someone getting killed to get this defect recalled? the dealerships refuse to acknowledge this defect and use it as an excuse to replace every component in your front end and charge you thousands of dollars. please address this before someone gets killed. *tr

When hitting a small bump with the right tire the whole front end began to shake uncontrolably with difficulty steering. had to bring the truck to a complete stop on the side of the highway. there was a semi right behind me that had to swerve to miss hitting me while i tried to control the vechile. dodge has said there is a death wobble and are aware of it, but no recall at this time. also dodge told me that it was a manufacure defeact and i could pay to have it fix. have already spent 1800.00 dollars replacing ball joint, tirieds, bearings. etc and still has the death wobble and unable to drive or sell due to the danger of accident. *tr

I was traveling highway i-95 near jax , fl. while crossing an overpass expansion joint between bridge and pavement the front end of my truck began violently shaking - so bad i could barely keep control. i slowed as fast as possible and headed for the median out of the way from traffic following. truck completed an entire "donut " in median causing all traffic to stop. i immediately thought a blown tire. i had previously replaced tires, shocks and fresh alignment less than 500 miles prior to incident. i called dodge care and they said there was a recall on steering linkage. i took truck to gator dodge in melbourne florida for the recall. service manager mike said the truck didn't apply to recall. he blamed the violent "death wobble" on my brand new tires and non mopar shocks. shocks are aftermarket direct fit for my truck from monroe. he also said that i needed an alignment and tires rebalanced. i did what he asked and brought truck back to gator dodge for a new diagnosis. he then blamed the violent shaking on " glazed rotors". oddly the problem does not happen when braking. he then talked with his service manager and replaced the pittman arm, stabilizer shock and some kind of control arm with new adjustment clamps for free. did nothing to correct the problem. the truck still makes "clunking noises " from somewhere behind firewall when just crossing over the white stop lines on the road or even my garden hose in the driveway. death wobble can be duplicated at high speeds but he refused to drive to highway to show him the problem. i am going to install a new steering gearbox and aftermarket stabilizer tomorrow and see what happens. i have a feeling it will be wasted money. i believe the truck needs recalled before i kill someone on the road. i cant afford a new truck and will not let my kids ride in this one. *tr

Was driving 45-50 mph when truck hit a rough spot in road and began violently shaking and was almost impossible to control. had to slow down in order for shaking to stop. steering was almost impossible while this was happening.\very scary! has happened several time since. my 19 year old daughter drives this truck! (maybe not for long). *tr

I have been watching the news recently and saw the jeep death wobble reports. i have the same experience and same problem with my 2006 dodge ram 2500. i almost got into two accidents on the high way and once my truck lost control due to the death wobble and turned 180 degrees on the highway facing oncoming traffic. but, luckily no one was hurt. i took the truck to see what the problem was and the mechanics said i have to pay a couple thousand to repair. however, the mechanic said he has seen many jeep and dodge have the same problem and said the company should have a recall because it is extremely dangerous and it is the manufactures fault. due to hard economic times i can not afford to fix my truck and i am very scared for my safety and my families. so please help me in this terrible situation along with other dodge ram and jeep owners. this is very common problem and can be seen all over the internet, youtube and the news. i look forward to hearing back from you and getting help. *tr

While traveling down roadway approx 45 mph, vehicle began to wobble really bad in front, felt steering was really loose or nonexistent. pulled over and found nothing wrong, vehicle drove fine afterwards. several days later, while driving approx 65mph on interstate, heard and felt a "pop" in the front as if i had hit something - looking back i did not see anything. if you ever hit a bird on the interstate, this is what it felt like; however there was no indications that i had hit anything, shortly after i began to experience the wobble again - immediately pulled over thinking my tire may have blown - there was no indication of anything. today, i took my truck in the shop for the recall (l16) left tie rod; i was told it was ok after inspection and there was no problem; however, for $1383 they tell me they will replace and fix my steering gear box because it is leaking. on the 13th of april after experiencing the wobble, i crawled underneath my truck and found no such evidence of anything; after leaving the dealer and crawling under truck, i noticed where there is leakage at the steering gear box now. after searching net for replacement parts i began to see all issues with these related parts. dodge should really look at this entire system as they could be tied together. i will repair the vehicle but i am really shocked that dodge has not done anything about these complaints with this wobble even after repairs. i don't want to spend that much money if wobble continues after repair. current mileage on vehicle is 96103 - i have owned this truck since new. *tr

After hitting a bump at highway speed the front end of my truck violently shook until i reduced speed to around 50mph. after researching issue on line i found this issue is so common that it is now referred to as the "dodge death wobble". when this happened to me i was unable to steer until i slowed enough to stop the violent shaking. i contacted the local dodge dealer to see if there were any recalls for this and they told me that this was the first time that they had heard of this issue. i had the dealership look at my truck several months before and they found nothing. i had les schwab look it over and they found nothing. several on line posts indicated similar results. to get a better idea of the extent of the issue just go to you tube and type in "dodge death wobble" and you will see plenty of videos with the exact issue i experienced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 2500 quad cab 4x4. the contact stated that while driving the front end of the vehicle would bounce uncontrollably. a local mechanic repaired the track bar, lower ball joints, steering shocks, tie rod ends, stabilizer and upper ball joints. the dealer made an attempt to assist the contact but the contact denied the dealer's assistance. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 07e009000 (suspension). the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 117,966 and the current mileage was 150,000.

The truck shakes uncontrollably after hitting a pot hole or un even pavement. aprox 55 to 75 mph. i almost went off an embankment at 65 mph. the truck would non steer or brake when it was shaking. death wobble look at you tube dodge truck death wobble. *tr

At 70 mph road speed, when encountering a pot hole or bridge expansion joint, the front wheels and steering components begin to shake and wobble violently, nearly jerking the steering wheel out of my hands. had i not had both hands on the wheel at the time, a loss of vehicle control might have occurred. while braking and trying to maintain control of the vehicle, at approximately 25 mph the violent shaking suddenly stopped. within 2 miles after resuming a 70 mph speed the same thing happened when crossing the next bridge expansion joint. again, when slowing to 25 mph, the shaking stopped. i have since checked several sources and found this appears to be a common problem on ram 2500 diesel powered trucks. several after market companies are selling products which they claim will prevent this so called "death wobble" after checking with a local dodge heavy duty truck dealer they claim they are not aware of such a problem ever occurring. i believe that dodge is aware of this problem, but since no one has been killed or injured yet, they are reluctant to delve into the problem for a solution, or acknowledge that it even exists. *tr

2006 2500 dodge 4x4 mega cab (stock) no lift. our dodge has started to experience a violent wobble at certain highway speeds when hitting a bump/hole. it is very dangerous as the vehicle is out of control when this occurs, causing dangerous conditions for me and anyone driving close to me. the wobble is so bad there is no way to gain control of the vehicle until you bring it to a complete stop. we have replaced bushings, track bar, steering damper twice, rotated/balanced tires. i called earnhardt dodge in chandler, az and told them about my problem. they said they are very aware of the insidious issue and have many customers complaining. this is something dodge should be addressing and recall notices should be published immediately if dodge is aware of this problem and know how to fix it. *js

Truck goes into a shimmy and breaks the tie rod ends. happened three times. three times in for repair finally drove into canal. *tr

After hitting a bump in the road going 70 mph my truck began to shake so violently it ripped the steering wheel from my hand and uncontrollably changed several lanes on i-95 before coming to a stop. i have since had it happen 3 more times at lower speeds around 55-65 mph. i have contacted dodge with no help, i have read many accounts of others with the same problem dubbed the "death wobble". i have so far changed tires, shocks, steering dampener, and tie rods. it still has the problem and is extremely dangerous i will not let anyone ride in it, this will absolutely get someone killed eventually. do not buy a dodge ram 2500. *tr

Front end failure and not just once .i have had it fixed 3 times . there is only 53000 miles on the truck .last time the tie rod broke and the truck ended up half way in a 10ft ditch. the last time a whole new steering linkage and steering box was put on. i have replaced all of the ball joints twice. this is a stock from the dealer 2500 hd truck. *tr
