The spare tire below the pickup bed broke loose from it's cable and fell out on to the highway. this also happened with my 1998 dodge dakota. *tr

While driving my 2001 dodge 2500 4wd pickup, the cable part of the spare tire lift assembly failed and allowed the spare wheel/tire to become free from it's holding and fell to the payment. luckily no one was following me for if they were they would have definitely hit the wheel and an accident would have occurred possibly causing injury (ies) to the occupants of the oncoming vehicle. this occurred on sept1 in rockwell, texas. i reported this to rockwall dodge service dept and told them it was a definite safety issue. they acknowledged this but did not attempt to notify the dodge headquarters to my knowledge. they ordered the replacement parts and gave me a date you come in to have the assembly replaced. in the mean time i called the dodge corporation and reported this incident stressing again the safety issue and possibility of a design defect. 9/21/10 "trish' called and advised me that because of the age and mileage there was nothing they could do. further she advised they wouldn't issue any warnings either due to the infrequent reportings. . i advised her that dodge has taken this too lightly and that they should correct the problem on both old and new trucks (all vehicles by a redesign (failsafe). i offered the parts to her for exam and analysis but she was not interested. i am appalled at such a "non-caring" attitude. *tr

We bought 4 brand new tires and they shake really bad we took them back to the store we bought them from and they re-balanced the tires saying that was all they could do to fix the problem but it is not fixed and now we are stuck with these tires that we don't feel safe with. *jb

During evacuation of vehicles prior to hurricane rita texas parks and wildlife department staff were proceeding northbound on i-59 near edna, texas, in a 2001 dodge 3/4-ton 4x4 with bridgestone dueler mt tires when a loud explosion was heard and a large piece of tread flew from the left rear of the truck. several vehicles had to swerve to avoid being struck by the large piece of tire tread almost resulting in a serious accident. staff were able to pull over and discovered the tread had separated from the tire causing damage to the left rear fender. the tire retained air but the tread was completely separated from the tire leaving the steel belts and underlayment exposed. local firestone dealers told us we would be charged top replace the tire. *jb

I bought some new toyo m-55 tires less than a month ago. these tires are out of round and bounce and vibrate horribly even though they have been balanced twice. also they handle terrible to the point where one could lose control or flip a vehicle. the tires feel like radial tires on one end and bias ply on the other. very dangerous situation. i can not maintain the speed limit because of the serious up and down bounce motion of these tires. if someone would like to take a ride in my truck, i would be more than glad to even let them drive the thing. these things make a the ford explorer thing look like a picnic. *nm

While towing a trailer at approximately 75 mph (speed limit) on interstate highway 10 west between wilcox, az and benson, az, the left rear tire tread separated. as a consequence, the right front tire developed a flat spot rendering it unusable. the separated tread caused significant damage to the pickup towing the trailer and incidental damage to the front of the trailer. no one was injured. two tires were replaced. the left bed side and associated parts were replaced and the dents in the bed were straightened. the old tires are available. *jb

I removed the spare tire to fix a flat. it was the original spare and had never been used before. after having tire repaired i tried to return the spare to it's stow area under the bed but the winch would not lift it. it will work when the cable does not have weight on it but it will not lift the spare. the winch appears to have plastic parts. i feel this could be a safety issue if it would fail while driving down the highway. *jb

I was driving a 2001 dodge ram 2500 4x4 v-10 along interstate 50 in sacramento, ca in the fast or left lane and had installed brand new super swamper ssr 305/70/16 tires w/4,000 miles on them and while driving approximately 70 mph the left rear tire flew apart. the tread had separated from the steel cord in 2 large pieces and flew back at the car behind me causing a major car accident involving 3 cars not including mine. it caused extensive damage to my truck (apprx. $3,000.00) the police did an onsite report and after speaking to everyone had decided to let me go without a citation or using my insurance because it was determined that the person behind me caused the accident by trying to swerve and miss the flying debris hitting her car. i tried to take them back to the store where i purchased them and received a response of call the manufacturer which i did with no luck. all i have at this point is pictures but no dot#. *jb
