We have classified the 75 complaints from 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 about STEERING into the following categories.
Noticed vehicle steering had slack and jerked the steering wheel from side to side all the sudden. took vehicle to family mechanic who inspected the vehicle and said he did not seen any external damage however he could tell there was slack in the steering and possible something with the tie rods or hub of drivers side on vehicle. he knew there was a current recall on the dodge models concerning the steering linkage and tie rod assembly and also the gearbox shaft pitman. we researched the recalls and found that it covered the 2500 series in the 4x4 so took to our local dodge dealership and they stated the recall did not cover our 1500 megacab 4x4 series vehicles even though they have the 2500 series parts under them. we scheduled immediate repair of the vehicle in order to prevent having a frontal crash or loss of steering of the vehicle. chrysler advised us to file complaint since we were not able to claim the cost under recall. i believe that nhtsa should review and expand recall on all dodge models with the steering problem and issue recall on any parts that are related to the steering or linkage from the 2500 series. *tr
Dodge issued an "extended" warranty for the signal really in the steering column. they stated it could break. it really malfunctions- one signaling left it could/would change from signaling left to signaling right. they are aware of this - when i tried to get mine fixed they said that they truck would need to show the malfunction for them to honor the warranty. i feel this should be a recall do to faulty signals (safety issue) i spoke to corporate and they felt the issue was addressed. *tr

Started hearing a low howling noise in my front end when going around curves in the road, it progressively got louder after a couple weeks to a grinding sound, took it to the dealer where i bought it performance dodge, woodbury, nj. they stated that both front wheel bearings were bad. i told the service manager that i heard there was a recall on my year model for that very reason, he stated that he never heard of it, i informed him of the reason for the recall, and his answer was that my truck was 6 years old and those things wear out. i said are you crazy the truck has only 38000 miles on it, his answer was it was a good thing i purchased a extened sevice contract. it cost me $107.00 deductable.i called chrysler and was told there was no recall on my truck.this was my first chrysler product and if this is how they stand behind there product, when they were aware that there was a problem at the factory it will be my last. my truck should have been part of that recall, just like many others that were not.i will be trading it in for a ford next year. now i know why the govt. had to bail chrysler out so many times. *tr

When it is very hot and the windows have been up, the ignition switch will not turn. the steering wheel will not turn and the key will not rotate from locked position. i have contacted dodge and they say they have made notes on the issue, but they don't see a problem that they are responsible for. if this was an issue that i would have control of creating - it would be my problem. this is an issue with safety in that if i had an emergency and this happened i would not be able to start my car. or, have a car-full of groceries and find out the car won't start!!! bad enough i have to wait for the car to cool off when this happens. this is a summertime issue which makes me have to find shade or park where the sun doesn't shine into the front of the car. problem seems to be a part (probably plastic) that expands when it gets very hot and prevents the key cylinder from rotating. this can't be the only car with this issue as dodge would elude to . . .

2006 dodge ram 1500,steering wheel shakes & truck pulls when brakes applied. brakes back & front changed rotors & pads. same condition. this condition was reported june 15/07 7 tie rod ends changed & brakes. the second set of brakes have been installed checked tie rods defective & sloppy on second set. vehicle has 71727 km`s & dodge will not change tie rod ends saying truck is out of warranty period. checking used 2006 to 2008 dodge rams have had tie rods changed. suspect chrysler dodge does not want to advertise this defect with recall because after tie rods changed alignment is required. *tr

Had vehicle aligned due to the front end bouncing. tie rod was replaced and vehicle had a vibration and popping noise from the front end after that. today i took it to the shop and they said the wheel bearing is worn beyond safe conditions. my vin did not fall under the current recall but i seem to be having the same problem with my vehicle and my family has been put at risk with this vehicle problem. i have new parts being put on today which is going will be paid out of pocket again. i have driven with this vibration for some time now not even aware that it could possibly be under a recall. a fault this serious could cause death and injury to my family and someone else's. *tr
