We have classified the 111 complaints from 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
turn signals fail to work completely, or right turn signal will activate while using left signal or vise-versa. headlights will fail while this "multi-function switch" shorts out. no wipers, no turn signals, no lights. *tt
Turning on the wrong turn signal, for instance you are making a left turn and you push the stalk down, the right turn signal turns on. *tr
2006 dodge ram mega cab-32000 miles. multi-function switch does not work properly. left turn signal activates when signalling right or vice versa. windshield wipers do not always turn on causing hazardous and unsafe driving conditions in inclimate weather. multi-function switch has been replaced three times already. dealer advised dodge was aware of the problem but was not responsible since a recall had not been mandated. complaint filed with chrysler customer care over issue of responsibility and knowingly replacing defective parts with known defective parts. the issue has not been resolved to this date. *tr
Turn signals fail to work completely, or right turn signal will activate while using left signal or vise-versa. headlights will fail while this "multi-function switch" shorts out. no wipers, no turn signals, no lights. *tr
The problem first occurred at highway speeds where the signal fails to operate, operates the opposite signal of what the driver selected or alternates rapidly both turn signals. additionally when this happens the high speed on the wipers and the hazards fail as well. the problem now occurs sitting still or any speed, it appears to be a bad multifunction switch. this is definitely a dangerous and from what i've read, far to common a problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the turn signal failed intermittently. when the left turn signals was engaged, the right turn light would activate instead of the left. occasionally, both signals would blink simultaneously as if the contact had engaged the hazards. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 89,000.
The problem started a few months ago, but i thought it had corrected itself. the past few weeks it has been a constant problem and will not stop. when turning the wipers on mist, they do not work. i have to switch it to the next setting to make them move. the blinkers are either working intermittently or not at all. when turning left, the right one comes one, both flash and stop or it will switch from one to the other. the same thing happens when turning right. turning on the brights does not work either. it makes the washer fluid and wipers work. *tr
My 2006 dodge ram truck turns on the wrong turn signal, for instance if i am making a right turn and i push the stalk up, the left turn signal turns on. this is an intermittent problem and sometimes my turn signals work and sometimes they do not. i also have the related problem that i have no control over my windshield wipers. when i turn them on, they will stay on for minutes at a time on a high speed and not turn off. other times they will only go one or two times and shut off completely while it is pouring rain. *tr
Turn signals not working correctly, turn on left signal and they both flash or the right signal flashes but never the left signal. *tr
When turn left turn signal on right turn signal comes on and vice versa. windshield wipers sometimes will only work on low speed. *tr
Tl - the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the turn signals and hazards lights were malfunctioning. the contact also mentioned that when she tried to turn on the bright lights, the windshield wiper and washer fluid would activate instead . the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 79,000. kmj when i would turn left signal on the right signal would come on. updated 10/18/2011 *ln *tr
I own a 2006 dodge ram quad cab 1500 4x4 that has been having repeated problems with the multi-function switch that controls the wipers and the turn signals. several times while driving in the rain this issue has happened to were i have had my children in the truck with me and had to pull off the road because of not being able to see because of the wipers not working and in doing so drove into the median causing me to puncture the left front tire. i had to do this because i didn't want to have or cause an accident. my vehicle has been in the shop twice over this problem and it still isn't fixed. what does it take to get something done about this! there has been several, and i mean several complaints over this same part. does it take someone being killed or seriously injured before someone is held liable. i spent several thousand dollars on this truck, along with an extended warranty, but there is no price tag for loss of life do to someone not being held accountable for their equipment. please, we need something done to remedy this problem that millions of dodge owners are being forced to deal with. please don't let loss of life be the reason for a change because then it's too late. *tr
My turn signals do not work at all i replaced the multi switch and still nothing i have been reading on different message boards that they have the same problem so any help would be very greatly appreciated. *tr
I signaled for a left hand turn and after about 2 seconds the blinker went from left to right. now whenever i signal for a left hand turn, the blinker goes left then right after a few seconds. *tr
The blinker switch on my 2006 1500 ram doesn't work. when i flip the switch to turn right the left blinker comes on. sometimes no blinker comes on. also, at times, when i turn the wipers on they don't always come on and when they do come on they don't always turn off after turning them off. *tr
I have a problem with the windshield wipers on my 2006 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. they will not run for more than one to two minutes on continuous wipe. after that time they will only wipe at an intermittent speed which varies from once every two seconds to once every twenty to thirty seconds, whatever they feel like wiping at. this is a very dangerous situation which i found out just the other day while traveling home from work in a steady rain. during the trip home it became very difficult to see and very unsafe. it is a very insecure feeling not knowing when your wipers will clear your windshield again in a steady rain. *tr
The tail light function of the trailer wiring harness stopped functioning. still have use of brake and turn lights. this is hard to catch on a visual test since i usually check turn and brake functions. towed for weeks before i was told of the malfunction. therefore cannot see trailer at night. dealership could not fix problem. *tr
Problem with turn signal switch, when signaling left turn the right turn signal will blink or sometimes both will blink at same time, also unable to switch high beams on, when lever is pulled the windshield wipers spray cleaner fluid, this should activate by pushing in on handle not pulling on it. if you move the turn signal handle around sometimes it will correct the turn signal issue but still have not found a way to activate the high beams. *tr
My name is [xxx]and i own a 2006 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck. after purchasing the truck i noticed that every once in a while when i pressed the turn indicator down to turn left, the right turn indicator light would turn on. this happened once or twice a day. a few weeks later this was happening everytime i drove, also the windshield wipers would only stay on low speed. i took the vehicle to a mechanic, and he "re-set" the system. well, this worked for only a couple days. i had paid the mechanic a large sum of money to fix the problem so i could not afford to take the vehicle back. i drove around with this faulty turn indicator problem for around 6 months. this problem was such a nuisance for me, and not to mention illegal! everytime i took a left turn i would have to place my arm out the window and turn. this was such an embarrassment for me. finally i took the dodge ram truck to a dodge dealership, and they informed me that the problem was that i had a faulty "multifunction switch" and that it would cost $263.00 to replace. so i gladly paid the money and go it fixed due to the un-safe turn indicator problem. i have been searching the internet for this problem and found that several people have had this "turn indicator" problem, and it seems to be that chrysler had installed faulty "multifunction switches" in their 06 dodge ram pickup trucks. i am asking you to please issue a recall on these faulty "multifunction switches" in the 06 dodge ram trucks before someone gets seriously injured or loses their life. thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Turn signal signals in wrong direction intermittently . seems to be a very common problem with these dodge vehicles has led to near miss accident. *ln
The turn signal multiswitch malfunctions constantly. sometimes both signals flash when your turning one way other times it is just the opposite side flashes. this is a major saftey issue that chrysler should have to recall. it could very easily cause an accident if another driver thinks you are turning the opposite way than you are going to turn. needs a recall, many blogs on line talking about this! *tr
Turn signals operate sporadically. moving the turn signal stalk to signal a left turn can result in no flashing of the left turn signal but improper flashing of the right turn signal. likewise when moving the turn signal stalk to signal a right turn the signal will not flash or sometimes will incorrectly signal left. this improper signal appears at both the dashboard indicator light and at the exterior front and rear turn signal lighting positions. additionally the wiper blades have begun failing to operate when needed. when selecting an on position on the turn signal stalk the wipers will sometimes stutter across the windshield or sometimes no move at all. when the vehicle was under factory warranty the multifunction switch was replaced. this fixed the problem the first time. the vehicle is having the same problem again but is now out of warranty. factory repair claims it will be the same replacement at owner cost. the problems happen intermittently, and can not be reproduced at will. over time, however, they are happening more frequently. *tr
My turn signal on my 2006 dodge ram 1500 mega cab gives a wrong signal when least expect it. if you turn on the left turn signal the right one blinks or it flashes back and forth. just learned of what will fix the problem, it is caused by the multifunctional switch. i have not had it fixed yet but when i do i will keep the old switch. it happenes every couple of days then it stops for a while and then it starts again.
I was attempting to make a left turn off the highway, and when i signalled for a left turn with the turn signal, the instrument cluster showed a signal for right turn. i pulled into the left turn lane, and the car which was behind me and continuing straight slowed down and refused to go by me, even though i was in the left turn lane and they had a clear path ahead. this indicated to me that the taillights were also indicating a right turn. there was no accident as a result of this, but the normal flow of traffic on the highway was disrupted. since this incident, i have watched closely and the multifunction switch has done the same thing several times intermittently. we live near a busy highway in the country, and often when someone is slowing down to make a right turn, the traffic behind will pass on the left. if someone is actually making a left turn, but the signal is showing right, this could lead to a fatal collision. i contacted chrysler, and they simply told me to get it fixed and hang onto the receipts in case there is a recall. i also found that 2006 dodge 3500 pickups did have an extended warranty on the multifunction switch for this reason.
I've been having a problem with my 2006 dodge ram 1500 for a while. the turn signals are all screwed up. when you turn it to the left the right signal comes on. i was almost in a wreck yesterday. how this isn't a safety issue is beyond my comprehension. when i am in a wreck because of this, i plan on suing the bejesus out of dodge and everyone else who i have notified and who have done nothing to rectify this clear safety problem. *tr
The switch on my 2006 dodge ram that controls the turn signal, wipers and light dimmer does not function properly. it turns the opposite signal on that i have specified, my wipers shut off while driving and it will not allow me to dim my headlights. driving in the rain is very difficult and turning becomes a problem becasue i never know what signal will turn on. i spoke with mechanics at a dealership who informed me that the problem is so common that the mulit function switch is now referred to as the malfunction switch. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. the contact attached a trailer to the vehicle and noticed that the passenger side turn signal and brake lights of the trailer were not functioning. the vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that there was a failure within the electrical system. the manufacturer was notified and he was informed his vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 07e066000 (equipment: electrical). the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also stated that the check engine light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the egr valve was replaced. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.
Turn signal malfunction. when i move turn signal lever for left turn, the right turn lamps flash. sometimes it does not signal at all. *tr
Turn signal lever doesn't work properly. *tr
Multi function switch intermittent failure causing turn signals to operate incorrectly, wipers and other functions also effected, occasionally causing truck to quit running along with gauges and information display to not work correctly. *tr
2006 dodge ram truck turning on the wrong turn signal, for instance you are making a right turn and you push the stalk up, the left turn signal turns on. *tr
i was driving on the highway and attempting to change lanes , i pulled down my turn signal yoke to engage the signal and changed lanes - approx 500 yards later i was pulled over by a state highway patrolman who explained that i never signaled when i changed lanes. after assuring him that i did we explored the possibility that my lights were out - after going through all the motions we concluded that my lights worked fine but for some reason , my turn signals would randomly decide not to work and work at other times for no reason. the officer let me go with a warning and a promise to look into the situation right away. after doing some research , i have found many other people with the same problem from the same automaker - dodge needs to recall all of their 2006 ram's and replace their defective parts. i believe ( from what i have read) it is the multi-function switch that needs the replacing. this is a major safety concern if people are thinking that their turn signals are working properly and in fact they are not - if it is concern enough to warrant a failed inspection from a dealership or state mandated law , why does dodge believe that it is not necessary for them to replace their mistakes ? this is going to get people killed !!!!! *tr
When it is very hot and the windows have been up, the ignition switch will not turn. the steering wheel will not turn and the key will not rotate from locked position. i have contacted dodge and they say they have made notes on the issue, but they don't see a problem that they are responsible for. if this was an issue that i would have control of creating - it would be my problem. this is an issue with safety in that if i had an emergency and this happened i would not be able to start my car. or, have a car-full of groceries and find out the car won't start!!! bad enough i have to wait for the car to cool off when this happens. this is a summertime issue which makes me have to find shade or park where the sun doesn't shine into the front of the car. problem seems to be a part (probably plastic) that expands when it gets very hot and prevents the key cylinder from rotating. this can't be the only car with this issue as dodge would elude to . . .
I have a 2006 dodge 1500 and my blinkers and my windshield wipers are not working properly. when i signal to turn left the right blinker comes on. and the windshield wipers on low start going really fast. this is very frustrating. it started at about 69,000 miles. *tr
2006 dodge ram turn signal switch, when activated for left turn both turn signals flash or will completely shut off. when activating windshield wipers during rain they sometimes turn off by themselves and i have to fiddle with the switch to get them going again while driving down the road. went to dealer they want $300.00 to fix it since its not a safety issue, wipers turning off in the rain is not a safety issue? *tr
I have a 2006 dodge ram 1500 and the turn signals do not work correctly. the truck was functioning properly before and there has not been any changes or accidents to the vehicle that could have caused it. when you turn the right signal on, it will blink a few times, then the left will blink a few times, or it will go back and forth like a police car. some times both will blink at the same time. some times it has a strobe light effect. my truck had 70k miles on it when it started and it happens every day. it might not happen every time i turn the blinker on, but it does happen every day. it has made driving very dangerous, because vehicles will cut me off because they are unable to determine what my turn signals are telling them. it makes it dangerous to change lanes and turn at intersections. driving at night is even worse. this is a safety issue and should be recalled. i have done online research and found that it is a very common problem with this year and model truck. the solution to the problem is to replace the turn signal switch in the steering column. i called my local dodge dealership and they said it would cost around 500 dollars to fix. i highly stress that this issue be addressed. i strongly suggest this issue be addresses as it is only a matter of time until a serious crash will be caused by the malfunction. *tr
On a 2006 dodge ram when u turn the left turn signal on u might get right left or both and it messes with windshield wipers to not good when raining or turning. *tr
The turn signals and wipers on my 2006 dodge ram 1500 are not working properly. nothing happens when i move the switch up, and when i move it down, the right blinker comes on. the wipers don't work properly, and sometimes they don't work at all. these are all controlled by the toggle switch on the left side of the steering column. today 7/29/2010 i was driving through a heavy down pour and the wipers stopped as described. the problems have been occurring for 1 and 1/2 weeks. i have read online of others having the same problems, and the fix is a new switch. *tr
2006 dodge mega cab w/ hemi. when the blinkers are turned on ( left or right) they blink in the wrong direction or do not blink at all. on my truck they started about 1 month ago and are increasingly getting worse. now every turn they are sure to mess up. this could be a very serious issue if another vehicle think you are turning 1 way and you are actual turning another. this needs to be recalled.......... *tr
I have a 2006 dodge ram 1500 quad cab truck. i have had this problem since shortly after i purchased the truck. the turn signals and the wipers intermittently do not work. also, if i put on the left turn signal the right one goes on most of the time. from research i have done this is due to a faulty multi function switch that controls the turn signals, wipers and hazard lights. the dealer has replaced this switch twice under warranty and will not replace it now that it is out of warranty. this is a real safety hazard especially when the wipers stop working driving in the rain. i have researched this problem and there are thousands of posts on the internet with people having the same problems. there needs to be a recall for this. it is a real safety issue that needs to be fixed. *tr
I had my daughter out for drivers training when all of a sudden the turn signals stopped working. we pulled into a parking lot and checked fuses but found no problem. i took over driving and the signals started working by there selves. a week later i was at a stop sign turning right all of a sudden the left turn signal started flashing alternate of the right flashing. then they stopped working all together. when i restarted the truck the turn signals started working again. yesterday the signals would work once and then stop working until i would restart the truck. the dealership said they could not diagnose the problem until the signals acted up so they could see it. i guess it's time to go to the dealer and get it fixed. *tr
Dodge ram 1500 2006 - turn signal problems. on occasion the turn signals show opposite exterior lighting when used. for example, turn switch to left or counter clockwise, the right side exterior signals will light up. sometimes they do not work at all and the hazards will not work either. this is a very significant safety issue. *tr
I have a 2006 dodge ram quad cab and recently the turn signal / wiper switch has been acting up. quite often when i push down to turn the left turn signal on the right comes on and there are times when no turn signal comes on at all. i was almost rear-ended because of this. also sometimes the wipers will not come out of intermittent no matter what setting i have them on. again this almost caused an accident because during a heavy rainstorm all that i could get to work was intermittent. i have read online of other 2006 dodge ram owners having these same issues. this is a huge safety concern and should be recalled. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram 1500. the vehicle was experiencing two recurring failures. while driving at any speed the turn signals either would not function or the opposite turn signal from which he intended to turn on would illuminate. he also stated that when the high beams were engaged and then turned off, the windshield wiper fluid would activate. the vehicle was not taken to be examined for the cause of failure and was not repaired. the failures continued to recur intermittently. the failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 25,000. the vin was unavailable.
I went to turn on my left signal and it started flashing both ways then the wrong direction stayed on. the failure has been recurring since then and the most recent failure was my windshield wipers started slowing down and delaying even when i had not touched the controls. the turn signals sometime will not come on at all. i understand that this has been brought to the attention of dodge/chrysler but no recall or campaign has been issue. the problem is intermittent, but could result in a serious accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 dodge ram megacab 1500 4x4. the contact was driving approximately 45 mph and attempting a left turn when the left turn signal failed to illuminate. the failure recurred continuously. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem and they advised the contact there were no recalls related to the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. updated 4/2/12 *cn the rear left turn signal did not activate at any speed. the consumer stated it was not a bulb issue, but a computer problem. updated 04/13/12
Based on a thorough troubleshooting process, it was found that the tipm unit in my 2006 dodge ram 1500 slt 4.7l is faulted / bad. my left exterior signal will not function and flashes in the instrument cluster aty a rapid rate. per dodge, this is indicative of a bad bulb or short circuit. i replaced all bulbs and the rear lamp circuit board as directed. neither repaired the problem. after two days of searching for a short, a dodge technician and myself found the tipm to have a high side short which will not allow current to continue through the circuit to the lamps. an internet search finds this to be a very common fault of the dodge module in many dodge models, yet dodge continues to expect the vehicle owners to pay for these repairs. many owners such as myself have this issue outside of the warranty period resulting in a inappropriate repair bill for a safety item dodge knows is faulty and will at some point, fail, resulting in other safety features other than just a flasher and brake light going out. i cannot accept that dodge is continually allowed to use such faulty safety modules without being required to fix this problem, without the owners suffering the costs. please contact me at [xxx] for any followup on this issue. v/r, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
2006 dodge quad cab pick up (4 wd) while driving horn, dome light and cargo light come on with no warning or reason. event happens every time i drive. some times the dash lights go out. which is hazardous in the dark. dealer put in a new cluster and i still have the problem. last time i drove got shocked when turning off the ignition, horn, dome light and cargo light come on. i have to pull the neg battery cable. system seems to reset, horn and lights go out. dealer can't find the problem. my guess is the key switch or the ground for switch. *tr
There has be a number of occasions this has happened about probably 100 times but paid not much attention until this winter. the turn signal level is also used to turn on the wipers on the vehicle. the problem arises when the vehicle lights are turned on, the wipers are on, and the turn signal are turned on. for no reason the turn signal from the opposite side of the vehicle is the one that operates. normally when you are turning to the right the turn signal does not turn on and the left side signal turn on. in order to alleviate this problem i have to turn the wipers off completely. this causes a problem because this impairs visibility an also is giving other drivers the wrong signals. i have no idea what caused this issue but since i reside in the state of virginia it is a requirement that when it rains you must turn your lights and wipers this has caused me a problems since i depend on this vehicle and when it snows or rain i cannot operate the vehicle. i am taking the vehicle to the dodge dealer tomorrow to see what is the problem. i have not caused any accidents. some drivers had got aggravated since some times i give them the wrong turn signals. the incidents have occurred many times in the last 8 months and i have noted that is getting more frequent since we have got more snow and rain in the north east i whish i can provide specific dated but it has happened so many times that i got tired of it and i am taking the vehicle to the dealer tomorrow. i am putting today as the most current date. *tr
When the left turn signal is activated, immediately the right turn signal engages. the failure occurs intermittently. i've contacted the dealership and was told there is nothing they can do because the vehicle is out of warranty and manufacturer has not made a recall on my vehicle. this is extremely dangerous especially when entering the interstate. *tr
