The vehicle will intermittently stall when stopping or stopped at a traffic light or stop sign. it can be immediately restarted. it will also intermittently flash a check engine light with chime while driving down the road. this has been an ongoing problem since purchased in 2008. it happens with cold or warm engine. it may happen once a week, once a month, or several times in one day. usually more frequently when the air temperature is below 65 degrees. there are no codes stored and no check engine light displayed (other than the intermittent light & chime).. the dealership says there are no tsb's covering my engine/transmission. there are hundred of similar complaints online with owners 4.7 engines in other dodge & jeep products. many people have spent well over $1,000 on this problem and not solved it. we recently moved from a rural area to a large city. dealing with this problem in heavy traffic is very stressful. we recently started transporting a baby in this vehicle and the impatience of other cars waiting for us to restart ours leads to other vehicles to take aggressive actions which will eventually lead to an accident.
Without warning upon leaving highway off ramp and turning into my workplace the driveshaft fell off the rear differential which then locked up rear wheels. when it was towed to dealer the tow driver mentioned the pinion nut which holds the driveshaft assembly to rear differential was obviously missing.
Dealer advises that chrysler is declining to perform p77 recall, citing lack of availability of parts. chrysler has made a verbal offer to purchase this vehicle which is less than my assessment of the vehicles worth. they have now told me that i must come and collect my truck from the dealership (after them having the vehicle from 12/31) today and they are declining to perform the recall service.

This truck had a p 77 recall done and suposedly was fixed in april 2016 and in sept 2018 i start hearing a noise in the rearend and found out these trucks have rearend issues so took it to findlay dodge in wilsonville oregon .they claimed problem nothing to do with recall fix , so i took the truck to another place to have fixed , which they then found out, that the pinion set was way too tight causing the bearing failure and metal in case.i paid to have rearend rebuilt.i feel this problem should havebeen fixed by the dealership/manufacturer and happened because the orgina recall and the fix was done wrong (too tight) causing the bearing failure. i have proof of findlay dodge paper work claims and of the place that actually fixed my truck with repair cost parts etc. truck only has 57k miles.

I was driving on the highway, slowing down to get off the exit, doing approximately 40-45 mph. i my passenger and i heard some strange noises in the rear and then suddenly the rear wheels locked up, causing the truck to bounce around violently. i bought the truck in december of 2016, this incident happened mid november 2017. upon doing some research i found the recall, and followed up with some calls to dealers. this issue was supposedly resolved in march 2016 in plymouth, massachusetts, i purchased the vehicle in lewistown pennsylvania. my truck is currently sitting at a dealership where it has been since december 14, and they tell me it might not get in the shop until after the new year. i contacted dodge, they tell me they can not help me until after a diagnostic. i am reaching out to you in the event they deny my claim under the recall warranty. the shop manager at the local dealership tells me even with a diagnosis he can't say for certain the recall was repaired properly or not, which would leave me with a huge bill for something i believe is their fault for not using proper parts or not repairing the part properly under a recall warranty.
I have a 2005 ram 1500 with a rear pinion recall. the pinion came loose while driving. when the pinion came loose it ruined the housing. they want to charge me $917.00 for the housing. the housing was damaged when the pinion came loose.
Takata recall & rear differential pinion nut i have received two recall notices for this vehicle. the reality is that i live on an island (kodiak, alaska) on which there is no chrysler/dodge/jeep/ram dealership. to get the vehicle to such a dealership would require a ferry ride of over 10 hours (each way) and the expenditure of over $500. i called the fca recall assistance center, explained the situation, and asked them to authorize a local non-dodge dealer or repair shop to do the work. they refused, saying i would have to pay for the repair myself and then seek reimbursement.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the rear of the vehicle caught on fire while driving 60 mph. an eyewitness extinguished the fire. there were no injuries and a report was not filed. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v796000 (power train), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the recall repair was serviced at the local dealer (adventure chrysler jeep dodge ram located on 36845 euclid ave, willoughby, ohio, 44094). the vehicle was driven to an unknown local dealer located in the state of kentucky. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated they would send a special engineer to investigate the vehicle per case number: 31588634. the vehicle was investigated by the manufacturer's engineer who informed the contact that a special investigations unit was to review the vehicle and report back to the manufacturer. the vehicle remained at the dealer for three weeks, but no repair order had been provided from the manufacturer. the contact was informed that he would have to start paying a storage fee for the vehicle if it was not removed. the contact had the vehicle shipped to his personal independent mechanic located in atlanta, georgia who diagnosed that the rear pinion nut was repaired and was too tight, which caused the fire. the vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time and no assistance was made available. the failure mileage was 150,000. the vin was unavailable.
I have reported this issue several times now, i took my vehicle to dealership for replacement of pinion nut on driveshaft to prevent the driveshaft from seperating from the rear end of the truck. my vehicle continues to lock up, rear wheels will lock up when vehicle in put in reverse or in drive, this issue is related to the driveshaft pinion (seperation) and could cause a catastrophic collision endangering my family and any other vehichle in close vicinity of mine while driving. i am afraid to drive my truck due to this issue, i have also considered what will happen when my truck is catapulted from this issue, hoping that my family will be able to file a class action lawsuit against chrysler/dodge for ignoring mine complaints and refusing to fix the problem, once i am killed in an accident from this recall issue. i am very upset that i am not getting any help from dodge for this issue. i know i'm just the little one who bought your product, and care none about me and my family, however, you can and will be sued if i am in an accident due to this recall issue, (my rear axle locking up therefore locking up my rear wheels). everytime i try to move my vehicle, i hear a loud "boom" in the rear of the vehicle and my rear wheels lock up and vehicle won't move. i will hear a loud "boom" in the rear end of the truck while driving. i am very afraid to drive the truck due to this recall issue, and due to the fact that my wheels continously seize up. this has happened at least 20 times in the past month, thank god i have not yet been catapulted, i fear though that it will happen very soon.
Re-call (p77) rear axle /pinion prior to my vehicle being served for this re-call it ran well but soon after the re-call was repaired i noticed there was a hesitation on acceleration especially noticeable on the interstate. my dodge ram 1500 has a hemi and there were no problems entering the interstate without any delay to reach the marked speed and merge with the traffic. after the repair on the re-call my truck would not go into a smooth transition into the gear; it would have a noticeable jerk in order to get to the speed needed to flow into the traffic. and i now my power steering has gone out; there is fluid in the container and no leaking i the driveway. i took the vehicle in the re-exam there work on the re-call they performed and the dealership started to charge me $99. to exam my complaints. i thought that re-call were not suppose to be an expense to the consumer. the dealership definitely treated me different from a regular "paying" customer. very disappointed with this re-call.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 dodge ram 1500. the contact had not experienced a failure until the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v796000 (power train). upon leaving the dealer, there was a strong vibration in the rear of the vehicle. in addition, the rear axle nut seized and the rear axle assembly caused the two rear tires to flatten. the vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failure. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was not available.
Rear end locked up at slowing from 65 to 40 in turn lane. came to a sunday slamming halted stop throwing my wife and other passengers into dash.driveline sheard off rear end completely.
I was driving in the far left lane at 65mph on the freeway and all of a sudden without warning, i heard a loud banging noise at the back end of the truck. the back end of my truck was being thrown around causing me to almost lose ntrol of the vehicle nearly causing a bad accident. i pulled over on the left shoulder and the truck came to a screeching stop. i was pretty shaken up. i got out and at first thought i blew a tire. then looked and the tires were fine ,so then i looked underneath my truck and saw the drives haft came out of the rear differential. i was not in a safe place on the left shoulder, as its in the middle of the freeway. i immediately called for a tow truck. the tow truck couldn't tow as the rear end was completely locked up. the california highway patrol tow truck showed up, and an officer had to shut down a crowded freeway to get me and my truck off the freeway safely. later in the day i researched and found out about a recall on the 2005 ram 1500. i contacted the previous owner who was the original owner, and he was never notified of this particular recall. i am in the process of contacting dodge to see what they are going to do about it. they are responsible for putting safe vehicles on the road. i could have been killed and possibly hurt others. these trucks are not safe unless this issue is fixed. it happens without warning, so if you own one, get it taken care of right away!!!

My truck has the p77nhtsa 14v-796 recall notice (rear axle pinion nut). i contacted my local dealership when i received the 1st notice (nearly 2 years ago) and was told the part required was currently unavailable but i would be put on a waiting list and be contacted as soon as possible for the repair. i have contacted my local dealer again each time i have received another notice for this same recall and each time i have been given the same response that the part is still unavailable. i cannot understand how a potentially deadly issue such as this rear axle pinion nut failing cannot be addressed in 2 years time. i don't know if this is chrysler's lack of concern or my local dealership. i was told again this morning that the part would be ordered specifically for me but that it was still nationally unavailable. who is responsible if serious injury or death to me or my family occurs due to this lack of response from chrysler? any help with this problem would be appreciated.

My dodge ram 1500 has a known recall p77 on the rear pinion nut that the technician at the dealership said was faulty on my vehicle and that parts would be ordered to resolve the defect. i was later notified by the dealership that the parts were now available and to bring the vehicle in for repair. when the vehicle was brought into the dealership for repair i was told that the repair had already been completed and they would not do the repair as the technician had told me was needed in accordance with the recall. this a matter of a dealership not fixing a known problem not a specific incident of a vehicle accident. there is already an existing recall that is not being honored.
